It's Monday and the swapmeet is open! It's also International Talk Like a Pirate Day. What fragrance be ye wearin?
I'm in a tiny dab of Santa Maria Novella Acqua di Colonia aka Queen’s Cologne.
Reminder: on 9/23, we're doing You Say It's Your Birthday...pick a song related to a musical birthday today (John Lomax, Ray Charles, John Coltrane, Julio Iglesias, Bruce Springsteen, Ani DiFranco, or find another!) and wear a fragrance to match.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

First really cold morning of the fall (and it isn’t even really fall yet), so I cozied up in SL Un Bois Vanille. Nothing particularly piratical about it, I guess, but it’s very warm and comforting.
Luckily it is not International Smell Like A Pirate Day 😉
Ha!🤣
Smell Like a Pirate, but make it *Perfume* — NSTers tackle this! I’m thinking notes of:
-rum
-seawater
-wood
-ambergis
-lime (to ward off scurvy!)
Add tobacco and cumin or honey (BO) to that list, I think!
right on!
Gunpowder too
Wearing Penhaligon’s Iris Prima.
Watching the Queens funeral on my cell phone, while waiting for my dog Yei to be seen by his vet.
Hot, humid, uncomfortable day today. I think is the last hot day of the season before we drop to the upper 70’s at the end of the week.
Happy Monday, everyone! 🍁
I am also watching the Queens funeral like perfumelover
I am doing a musical pairing (but not on the list) Spiegel im spiegel with No 19
I have a stressful week ahead but will try to pop in when I can
Chanel makeup today and a summery dress
opps didn’t mean to comment here!
Good luck with your stressful week!
Thanks Robin!
You smell lovely, PL67.
Thank you, SheriG! 🌻
I hope Yei is doing ok..!
Yei is dealing with kidney failure now. He was receiving skin fluid therapy at the vet’s office, but starting tomorrow, I have to do it myself at home every day. He has a very good appetite, but sleeping 90% of the time these days. It is just a couple of months before we have to say goodbye to him. God will provide!
So sorry to hear that, although not too surprised. I know you have been dealing with this for quite a while. I hope that he’s comfortable and pain free. 💔
Thank you, Deva. He is 18 and a half years old, so this was expected at any time. While the vet says Yei doesn’t seem to be in pain, I feel he is not so comfortable. Hopefully, something for pain will be prescribed soon.
My cat has this and will one day have to deal with what you are dealing with. Many hugs to you. So darn sad that animals have to suffer in anyway.
Thank you Omega. It is not easy to see your beloved pet on the final stages of kidney failure and also neurological issues. I am sending lots of healing and comforting hugs to you and your dear cat.
Poor baby, I’m so sorry to read this. Sending hugs.
Thank you, Koyel.
I’m sorry that you and Yei are going through this, PL67. He is very lucky to have you to love and care for him.
Thank you, Vee. 🌻
I’m sorry to read about Yei, it’s sad when you can see that an elderly pet is getting close to the end.
Thank you, Gaynor. It is really heartbreaking. I have to hold my tears, to not make him sadder. I try to speak to him in a cheerful or
comforting way all the time.
PL67,
The fluids worked wonders for my stage 4 cat. We ended up with no shame bringing her to the vet three x a week. She was always called the fractious kitty and I think I made things worse.
Most people can do it, I just couldn’t handle it. The car ride.😣 But, she was so much better.
My poor sweet pup, handled anything. I think there is some good news!
Hugs always to you and Yei.
Thank you, Annie. I am very worried about hurting him. If that happens, then his vet will have to keep doing it. It is encouraging that you tell me fluids help a lot. I hope he really benefits from it.
Hopefully you’ll get the hang of it. I gave fluids to one of our cats for months. Had the bag suspended from the shower curtain rod. I got so I didn’t mind doing it.
Fluids should definitely help. My cat was given a 24 hr IV fluid and it made so much difference. Then after that, they eventually gave her another IV when she got her teeth cleaned and then skin fluids another time. I encourage water drinking by putting ice in her water bowl-which she loves. And a water fountain, I am told, could be helpful as well. But she loves the ice water. She gets excited when I open the freezer lol.
Hugs to you and to the “pup.” It’s so hard.
Thank you, Skalolazka.
Aw, so sorry to hear that you are dealing with Yei’s kidneys failing. It’s incredibly draining. I went thru it with Pixel kitty. Hugs to you both.
Thank you Jalapeno. It is very draining and I really hate to cause him pain with that needle. I hope he does not get scared of me from now on.
Our companion animals have a great capacity for forgiveness. Yei will always love and trust you.
I will be keeping you and Yei in my thoughts, PL67. He is so lucky to have you!!
Thank you,Tulipani.
I’m so sorry, m. Sending you and Yei big hugs.
Thank you, Gail.
It is still summer and very hot in Armenia, I am wearing Diptyque l’eau de Neroli.
Not feeling good cause Armenia is going through a very stressful time right now.
I have read about Armenia in the papers…
Sending positive thoughts for you and Armenia, may things improve.
I did not realize you were in Armenia. Watching the news regarding N-K, and also along the Tajik/Kyrgyz border where I have colleagues. So disheartening. I am so so sorry.
Wishing you well over there, and for calm and peace
Sending you wishes for peace and for safety.
Thank you. I hope everything will calm down.
I’m wearing Morning Chess from my Vilhelm discovery set. Pretty straight up leather to my nose, which is fine. It’s not a note I wear much of, so it might work for a future CP.
I love leather but I don’t wear it often either.
Oh, Talk Like a Pirate Day! The only thing I ever found charming about Facebook is that you can choose “pirate” as your language — fun!
Meanwhile, we’re having what I call Indian Summer weather here this week. Very cool overnight temperatures with daytimes in the 80s. I broke out my heavy socks (first time in months) and spritzed on Memoirs of a Trespasser for early morning coziness.
Same weather here, and I’m loving it!🌞
We are watching the funeral here too. I’m glad there’s still space in this world for somber, yet beautiful traditions.
I love that my birthday falls on International Talk Like a Pirate Day. My sister has already sent me pirate gifs. Not doing anything today to celebrate, even though it’s a distressingly notable one (that’ll be Medicare for 500 please, Alex.) I work this afternoon and have a class tonight. But, we are doing a quick road trip for a long weekend starting Thursday.
I think I’ll treat my bakery colleagues to generous spritzes of Le Temps d’une Fête.
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday!🎉
Road tripping anywhere fun, if I might ask?
I think so. We are heading your way! My husband is in charge – all I know is we’ll walk and wander and he has some seafood restaurant in mind. Recommendations appreciated!
Oh fun! Email me if you would have time to meet up. I wonder if he’s planning on Sardine? I’m told it’s the place for seafood (I don’t do seafood😬) with a great view of Lake Monona.
My favorite place for coffee is on the capitol square- Wonderstate, and they have the best Chai! Are you doing the farmers market on Saturday? If so, go early is my best advice there.
Thanks! If not this trip, hopefully another. We expect to visit more often.
Lucky colleagues!
Happy Birthday! You and your workplace smell fabulous!
Happy Birthday! You smell amazing!!!!!!!!
You are bday twins with my sister-in-law, who has become a fan of (romanticized) pirate culture. I think it was a bit of making lemonade, because her friends love to give her pirate-themed bday gifts. 🙂
Lol
Happy birthday! You share the day with my mom…she’s 82
Ahhh. Happy birthday to your mom!
Happy birthday! Perfect scent for today!
Happy Birthday, and happy road tripping! 🎂
A very happy birthday to you LizzieB!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday! Your upcoming trip sounds like fun, enjoy!
Happy birthday!
I hope you have a wonderful year and many happy travels! And cake!
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Scented Birthday, LizzieB! Enjoy! 🎂🎁🥂💐
Happy Birthday, LizzyB! 🎂🎁🍷
Happy happy birthday to you, LizzieB! I hope you have a wonderful road trip this weekend.
Hope it was a great birthday!
Monday.☹️ Boo. But I’m in Over the Musk so at least I smelled good. I also scored a great parking spot this morning, lol, so there is that.
Small victories 🙂
Totally smelling good!🌞
What’s a pirate’s fave pizza topping?
Agggrhtichoke.
Been scentless pretty much all week. Went to a show and that was nice. But now in a dump mood wise and just feeling pretty glum. I can control only what I can..the rest is to be given to God. Things just are not what I want them to be generally and only so much I can do. And have no other option than to accept what is..maybe not fully accept..but forcefully adapt.
Not feeling like perfume ATM. Just a mood dump lol.
When I feel like I can’t control certain things..for whatever reason I can be kind of hard on myself. But anyway..not to be a rain cloud here. At least it’s finally cooling down and the weather has been nice.
Hope the gloom lifts soon.
Sending you hugs, Omega. Please be kind to yourself through your gloom. As kind as you would be to a good friend in the same situation.
Your pirate joke made me snort tea! 🙂 Just when I think I’ve heard them all, I hear a new one
Thank you. As kind as I would be to a friend is a good reminder. I would be extremely compassionate if a friend. But since it’s me..I grill myself harshly sadly.:/.
I’m the same way. We are too hard on ourselves.
I have been there, you have my sympathies. I hope things improve for you.
Those moods are the worst! Blech! I hope things turn around for you soon. Nothing worse than feeling you’re a passive observer of your own life…😢
Oh no, I hope you get over the dumps soon. If you have Amazon Prime and haven’t watched Bosch yet, I suggest you do. I just finished season 1 and I must say I am looking forward to the next season. I will try not to binge watch.
Thanks guys. I have been on true crime binge..not sure if that helps mood though lol
Bosch may be the unluckiest person ever … in the end (although I’m only on season 1, good triumphs).
So sorry Omega, and really the dumps go away soon.
https://youtu.be/UQBaoelMIRE
Omega, this is technically a perfume video but it has a very uplifting life story in it.
Hugs to you.
Really sorry to hear that life is pressing down on you. I hope it’s only temporary. In the meantime sending you a hug across the ocean.
I snickered at your pirate joke, then passed it along via email to my best friend.
Hope that the blahs take themselves elsewhere, soon.
Sending hugs, Omega. I hope you feel better soon!
Wearing L’Heure Bleue courtesy of Gail (thanks Gail!!) in honor of the Queen’s funeral.
You’re welcome!
Pre shower perfume is vintage Mitsouko edt from either the 60’s or 70’s. I think that I will round out the last day of vacation with either Epic or Lyric.
You smell great, love both of those scents.
Wearing Elie Saab Le Parfum. Orange blossoms and honey. I like it in warm weather even tho the heat can make it a bit heady.
Drinking F&M Countess Grey today.
Freebies – I have a ridiculous number of pump sprayers that fit the Philosophy body spray bottles. (I got annoyed that Nordstrom Rack sells the bottles without sprayers so I ordered a package of sprayers from Amazon, but Amazon sent me 2 packages so I now have more than I could ever use!) If anyone needs some, let me know and I will send them to you.
You inspired me to make a cup of Countess Grey 🙂
Never had Countess Grey tea, only Earl Grey. What am I missing out on? 😉
I believe it has lavender in it…
Nope, but that has a name too, doesn’t it? And can’t think what it is. If you make it into a latte it’s called a London Fog, but not sure what it’s called if it’s just an Earl Grey with lavender.
It has bergamot and “light orange”. There are other such bergamot + other citrus teas (by Kusmi, for instance, and Twinings makes a Lady Grey) but Fortnum & Mason Countess Grey is its own thing so far as I know. It is quite nice as an afternoon tea, bit softer than an Earl Grey.

We’re back on the beach, have just moved a bit north to Washington. Got quite cool last night, so much so that I had to close my windows and snuggle up with my four legged bed warmer. Bright, sunny and breezy today, a repeat of yesterday which was lovely!
I wore Ummagumma yesterday and I’m ready for another warming Amber type scent but haven’t decided yet. I’m leaning towards Taklamakan, courtesy of a lovely NSTer who doesn’t post anymore. You know who you are, and if you’re reading, I still think of you and thank you every time I wear this scent!
Beautiful sunset last night! 🥰

I wish I were out at the beach! I’ve been living vicariously through your pictures. 🙂
Happy that you enjoy them! We’ve had some fabulous weather, fantastic views, and met some lovely people these past few weeks (as well as some jerks, but we won’t give them brain space)! Sadly, I must return to reality and to work this week…😔
If a job down here as a lighthouse keeper opens up I will let you know!
Gorgeous!
I’m in Tauer Phi today. Not a CP thing, but I’ll get on that later this week. Beautiful weather, but I’ll be working while the kid and the spouse are home. (Thanks, hastily declared “national holiday” that only the schools and government workers get.)
I love International Talk Like a Pirate day! When I was in a Ph.D. program, our dare to each other was to find a way to work the word “pirate” into our dissertations, and not as a verb. (I fled before I got to that point, for other reasons.) But even better now, my future nephew-in-law just took a job at a place where there’s a pirate ship, which I’ve found endlessly entertaining! The pirate ship is apparently just a money maker and it’s an actual museum where he is being hired to use his graduate degree, but still I say that if I were there I’d demand to go be a pirate at least once a month! 🙂
Smelling fabulous, and that pirate ship gig sounds like the bomb! 👍🏼
Liberally applied Jicky this morning, like I used to do in my 20s. Straight out of the shower, spraying clouds of perfume in the air and walking through it. 🙂
Lovely!
Fun, and Jicky is perfect for it!
Robin, I hope you’re feeling back to normal–glad you are at least able to wear some perfume!
I’m starting to give into fall by wearing Cardinal Heeley this morning. Thank goodness I have a work stash of perfume, as my home perfumes are all still in a box in my closet. BUT most of the new house is now unpacked! I’ve just got a bit left in the walk-in closet, my study, and a spare bedroom. Of course, once everything is fully unpacked, I’ll have to reorganize the entire house to be more rational. But that can wait until October.
Have you found your ideal wall decoration yet? Wisterias?
I ended up going with a simpler branch design wallpaper (not a wall mural), and have decided to plant wisterias outside and let them climb up the house! The wallpaper looks good, I think. Meanwhile, all our paintings/photos/other wall decorations are all in the spare room upstairs, waiting to be hung once things calm down 🙂
I am negative as of yesterday, but I’m still shockingly tired. No other symptoms, so I guess I still need to count myself lucky, but jealous of everyone who had a mild 2-3 day illness.
Congrats on getting it all (pretty much) unpacked! Plus, you smell great.
Sorry you are still so tired, Robin, but not surprised, based on what I’m hearing from my COVID-survivor friends.
I should not be surprised either for the same reason, but I still am surprised!
Ah, sorry to hear you’re tired. My (35yo, very healthy/active) husband got it this spring, was a bit sick for a week, and felt tired for much of the following month. So the tiredness is definitely not just you!
Thanks Koyel, helps to know even such a young ‘un was tired.
Glad to hear that you have tested negative, Robin!
Thanks Jalapeno. Meant I could finally go do the shopping today…
The 19th September is Suffrage Day in NZ (1893) and yesterday I had to give a talk to some second year medical students. I think that about half were women. The first female to enrol at medical school here was Emily Siedeberg who enrolled in 1891 and graduated in 1896. White camellias are the flowers associated with Suffrage here but I am going purple with Fiele Viola as it’s a spring in the step perfume, which is what I feel like wearing.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emily_Siedeberg
https://www.stuff.co.nz/manawatu-standard/lifestyle/107241185/white-camellias-bursting-into-springtime-are-forever-a-symbol-of-womens-suffrage
Wow, NZ had suffrage long before USA! I did not know all these dates…
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_women%27s_suffrage
Interesting to see and compare all these dates. Thanks.
I’m giving Masque Russian Tea a spin today, from the gorgeous sample set I bought a few months ago. This one is nice, but nothing about it really rings my bells.
I realized yet another disadvantage about being left-handed…as I scroll through on my phone here, my thumb is repeatedly clicking on the reply button on the left so have to keep canceling. The small things about being a lefty are annoying!
Are you using an iphone? It’s shocking they don’t have that as an OS setting. Pretty sure Android phones do.
You know what? I never looked! Now I will, thanks Robin 😃
Can you let me know what you find out? I have the same issue…
All I’ve been able to find so far for iOS is a left-handed keyboard that pushes the keyboard over to type one-handed (which I do!). That is a useful setting I never looked for before but doesn’t change the “reply” thing.
So maybe if it doesn’t matter to you otherwise, next time you should consider, or at least look at, an Android.
But I think even for Android it just changes the OS, not necessarily how every app works.
Oh, no…it isn’t a big deal. Just one of those little things that come up for a lefty in a right-handed world
September has been quite cool so far, but I’m finally getting into more spring-like clothes. I’m wearing a pink jacket today, and it cries out for a rose perfume. I’ve picked Rose Impériale from Ausmane, a souvenir of Paris from four years ago. The brand still exists, but there is very little info online.
How nice for you! I am just starting to think about getting out some of my fall clothing, which probably makes me less happy than your pink jacket makes you 🙂
I’m wearing Samsara edt today; haven’t worn this in a long while.
You smell wonderful! Red bottle Samsara for the win!
Thank you, Jalapeno! And exactly correct about the red bottle version.
I expected this to be a great day. To do all of these things to honor my father.
It’ll be his 5th Heavenly Anniversary. I did not expect to feel so terribly sad. I miss him everyday, but I thought this one I almost had a celebration of his life. His funeral and everything did not do justice to the man he is.
I’m going to the beach for a walk, like we did together and to visit him. I feel like he got the short end of the stick again.
Sorry for being Debby Downer. Really sad day.
Maybe some Old Spice.
It never gets easier. That said, I uplift myself when I think of how generous he was when he was alive and some of us continue the tradition.
We ended up having a memorial service for him when we could all get together. We had 100 people at the service and most of them had lunch with us (restaurant).
It had gotten a bit better. I knew he was with my mother, he waited 5 years to be with her and it was painful emotionally.
I am going to celebrate. Yesterday, was just a whammy.
AnniePerfumes, don’t be ashamed at the emotions you are feeling today. Sometimes, an enormous loss takes a while to be completely realized. Been there. Hugs.
Thank you. He definitely was an enormous loss. Just really, really surprised at the depth of the sadness when I thought I was doing really well.
Annie, as many of us here, who have lost a parent or both, I understand how sad and difficult those anniversaries are. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Sending hugs! 🌻
Thank you. I should have known. My father used to joke, even much older in years how he was an orphan. I think there was a lot of sorrow and way he handled his emotion.
Prayers appreciated.💜
It’s clear that you shared a tremendous love with your father and that’s a wonderful thing and no wonder you still feel sad. It’s only been five years since he died and you spent a much longer period together and it’s good to allow all your feelings in. So many memories…that’s a lot to process. Sending love.
I did and still do love my father so much. Five years felt like I should have my act together. Thank you for your beautiful perspective.
Appreciating the love.
Sending you some hugs, AnniePerfumes. I’ve been thinking of you. I just wanted to say, it’s ok to feel sad!
Thank you. Hugs are so appreciated. I certainly had plenty of sads.
I feel for you. These anniversaries are very emotional no matter how much we anticipate the day. I’m sorry AP.
Funny you say that. I was supposed to be on a trip. And I didn’t want to go, because I wanted to be here with him. Trip got cancelled.
Thank you, lillyjo, I did not expect this.
Sending you hugs; anniversary days are so hard. I hope your beach walk helped. Did your Dad wear Old Spice?
This may sound strange but I have some jewellery from my Aunt and Mom that I wear on their heavenly birthdays, and it gives me a sense of feeling close to them.
Thank you for the hugs.
The beach walk was beautiful and I picked up some stones for his grave. Yes, he wore Old Spice.
It doesn’t sound strange at all. I wear Ambush, usually a pin of hers and a Christmas sweater. She died right before Christmas and wanted a Christmas party at her funeral.
Funny how people can have such a profound effect on others.
Oh, I didn’t see your post until today Tuesday, sending comforting thoughts and hugs.
I watched bits and pieces of The Queen’s funeral this morning while powering thru a couple loads of laundry. Mr. Jalapeno brought home an insane amount of dirty clothing from a 3.5 day fishing trip. Trying to get it all done before he leaves again this week for Florida. That trip will be to help his stepmother after she has knee surgery.
SOTD = Smell Bent Bohemian Rhapsody EdT, from the sample stash. SB called it “an intense incense”. My nose tells me COLA! Mix it with some rum, and you have a drink fit for International Talk Like A Pirate Day.
Oy about the dirty laundry. I will have to watch re-runs of the funeral.
Got today’s loads done! Resting up now for tomorrow’s…
I have just been looking at pictures of the funeral. When I see William and Harry I can’t help to see them as young boys at their mother’s funeral.
It’s nice Mr.J is able to help out his step mother.
What really tore me up was seeing all those flowers being thrown during the procession. It gutted me, that small gesture of love and respect.
SOTD = L’AP Safran Troublant
I swear (talking like a pirate 🏴☠️) that this morning I kept sniffing the air and going OMG who smells so good. Literally, as soon as I got home, I almost had to hit myself because it was me all along!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CitF1_hOSHd/?igshid=YzA2ZDJiZGQ=
In other news, there were lots of cops everywhere! Tomorrow begins all the United Nations stuff and I suppose dignitaries are in town. How crazy is it that I have 2 cousins who work at the World Bank? They are bot dignitaries nor are they in New York – one works in DC and the other one in Singapore.
Ahhh…memories of UN madness. We lived 1/2 mile above the UN, so buses re-routed and all sorts of other craziness. Weirdest thing was they’d remove all the mailboxes in our neighborhood.
Not so weird. Prevents people from putting bombs in the mailboxes.
My dad tested positive for Covid this weekend. Sigh, I’m definitely a bit worried! He has symptoms but isn’t too ill, so I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn’t get serious. And also that my mom doesn’t catch it. So far she’s fine.
This is going to be a week of either sampling various scents and/or rose scents for me. Today I sampled a gorgeous TRNP rose that I’m quite sure is discontinued, so I won’t bother saying the name. And also testing Radical Rose. It didn’t quite live up to my high expectations, my wallet sighs in relief!
Fingers crossed for both your parents! 🤞🤞🤞
So sorry tulipani! Does your Dad have a good doctor?
My sotd is Mugler Aura.
The day went by too fast for me. I keep trying to post for the swapmeet but I need more than 5 minutes to myself. Lol.
Aura is one Mugler perfume that I avoid! It did not play nice with me at all.
Late to comment, but don’t give up on Aura! I had to wear it several times, then I “got it.”
