It's Tuesday, plus Coffee Ice Cream Day and Read a Book Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
My husband tested positive for covid last night, and now I've overslept (I was negative last night, we'll see how long that lasts). I haven't got a fragrance yet but I'm having a cup of tea from the random caddy where I throw bits of leftover from other bags — I'm waiting for an order from Upton.
Reminder: on 9/9, wear a fragrance with a hay note. If you prefer, substitute any old cereal grain, or anything that calls to mind a fall harvest (the Harvest Moon will be on Saturday). (We did a similar project in 2016.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Kate Spade Charlotte Street 5 Piece Tea Set in porcelain ("Invite style into your home with this spectacular 5-piece tea set. Get ready to pour relaxation back into your everyday life when you unwind and share with your loved ones") is marked down to $75 today at Horchow.
Enjoying peace and quiet : Mr is at work, kids are back to school
Savoring my second cappuccino slowly while eating biscotti. Listening to the English Patient soundtrack and avoiding reading the newspaper.
SOTD is Le Wild from Chantecaille
From the website “This fragrance is my gift to the women who long for the wild—this scent is her key to escape from the city or the office into the deep, tangled beauty of nature’s utter freedom.”
Escaping today in my old world for sure.
Your morning sounds amazing! Enjoy.😊
Though I really enjoy having my kids at home with me during the summer-I am enjoying my alone time for sure at this moment. I am going to make myself breakfast and catch up on some volunteer work I am preparing for the library. Maybe take a nap! Or watch what I want to watch on the streaming services . Endless possibilities!
The liner notes to The English Patient soundtrack are so over the top ostentatious that they are hilarious. Well worth the read, especially if you are looking for material other than the newspaper.
Ok!
Hope all of you day was as good as the start. I’ve been meaning to try Chantecaille’s Kalimantan for a while, and now I will add Le Wild. 😀
I’m trying Encre Noire Pour Elle, from a newish decant. Pretty enough, but I love male version.
I liked the men’s better too.
Fingers crossed you stay negative Robin!
I’m in Over the Musk. Was definitely not ready to come back to work after a week off, and I can feel the melancholy trying to sneak in but the sun is just starting to burn through the foggy morning we had here and tomorrow is already hump day, so there is that.🌞
The weather has turned and the nights are getting into the 50’s. Finally able to turn off the AC and crack the window by the head of my bed for a cool breeze all night long. I love it. I dreamt about my beloved granny last night for the first time in awhile. She was laughing and in my mind it sounded just like she used to.☺️
My AC is off too. My wallet is so happy! I’m perfume free atm but I think I will copy you.
My fingers are crossed too…and already have him started on paxlovid, so hoping he will feel better soon.
Hope you guys are OK!This pandemic can seriously bugger off now….
Hugs!🌹🌹🤗
Thanks J!
We had just stopped obsessively masking a little over a week ago, so I can’t help finding it a little bit amusing…
Good to keep a sense of humor, even if just “a little”!!
🤭😉🤗
Potentially amusing AND frustrating!
Adding to the chorus who all hope you don’t catch it from Mr. Robin. And hoping that he recovers quickly.
Mr. Vee avoided getting it from me. We were able to use separate rooms and bathrooms while I was sick, and wore N95s on the few occasions where were got near each other. Same thing my parents did when my dad got it but my mom avoided it. So there is hope!
Yes, we pulled that off while my son was sick in May and we are doing the same protocol. Good chance we were together when he was exposed, so we’ll see 🙂
I hope you keep testing negative, Robin. Fingers crossed.
Coffee Ice Cream Day, you say? I’m going to the supermarket later and all I can say about that is “Uh-oh”.
Woulda worn Mugler A*Men Pure Coffee if I’d known, but it’s all good, because I’m wearing SL Fourreau Noir. That black-licorice vibe always makes me happy.
Mmm love black licorice ooh I just remembered I have some. 😋 black beats red anytime.
Those are fighting words…. 😀
Thanks!
I wonder if stores sell more coffee ice cream today?
I did not get to the grocery store today, but coffee ice cream is the official ice cream chez Mossy!
In the office on a rainy morning in Sensuous, which is as perfect for the occasion as always.
Rainy here too!
We had rain in the wee hours, then a dark, cloudy morning gave way to a partly sunny afternoon. You smell marvelous; Sensuous is such a cozy, comfy scent. As a fan of the classic EL’s (Youth Dew, Estee, Private Collection), I was late to the party on Sensuous, but now I love it.
Happy Tuesday!
SOTD!
L’Ombre dans L’eau, from the Diptyque travel set that I mentioned yesterday. It’s pretty and Spring-appropriate.I also tested some perfumes from a brand that one of my colleagues started! So happy for her,she started a brand earlier this year focusing first on make-up and now also including some perfumes. There is one with a jasmin/carnation note that I absolutely adore!
XO’s
Its feels like spring today in the buckets of rain we are getting..
The rainy season is fast approaching here as well, love it!
Nice to cool NY city off I hope!
🌹✌🏻
Mmm jasmine and carnation..my faves
It reminds me somewhat of Lush Lust, just not so densely woody.
A jasmine/carnation combo sounds lovely!
Wearing my new bottle of Amouage Ashore, a lovely jasmine with ambergris. Need to test this against Portrayal which is also a jasmine to see what the differences are.
Glad that one is nice, it has been a long time since I tried a new Amouage.
I think you are the first person I know to have mentioned that particular Amouage.
First I have heard of it too! AAANNDD, it makes my lemming dance around in his cage…
Maybe Beauty Encounter has samples of it?
Robin, I hope your husband has an easy ride with covid and you remain negative!
We’re finally getting a much-needed full soaking rain in NYC and I’m really enjoying it. I’m cp compliant in First Cut!
Thanks — got him on paxlovid today.
We’re getting rain too, and boy do we need it. We’re getting lots of early leaf drop here.
I’m in good old Eau des Merveilles this morning. The orange notes are more prominent than usual today — maybe a sign of fall, or cooler temperatures at least? Or maybe it’s just my nose. 🙂
Enough smell great!
What the heck? I meant to say You smell great! 😊
Hah! Autocorrect is so annoying, but every once in a while it saves my bacon so I leave it turned on. 😀
Haha! With a little added punctuation it could have been “Enough!!Smell great!!”…🤭🤣🤣✌🏻🤗
This!
When a perfume is so good that grammar fails you! 😎
Time for me to re-sniff EdM. I don’t recall an orange note, but it’s also been several years since I last smelled it.
You smell wonderful – Fall is the best season, IMHO!
Wearing Kyoto today since I couldn’t figure out what to wear today.
Kyoto always works!
You smell great, almost wore Kyoto today.
Hello.
Sotd is Chameleon. Puts me in a good mood every time.
I like coffee by itself but weirdly I don’t like coffee flavoured things, at all. I will half honour Coffee Ice Cream day by having ice cream!
I love coffee ice cream but find the extra caffeine hard to take. I half celebrate Coffee Ice Cream Day almost every day 😉
You smell wonderful!
An old sample of Soivohle Acoustic Flower. It’s just making me miss my sample of Moon Bloom.
Moon Bloom is good stuff.
Hi leathermountain, the liquid salonpas is available as a gel (which then makes it a gel vs liquid). In any case, I may have assumed a roll on because I don’t know that one should necessarily have the substance on one’s fingers.
Robin, so sorry for your husband, hope you will remain negative so you can look after him, one covid case in a family is enough.
I’m now in Drôme Provençale, enjoying the scent of pine and wild thyme and not wearing any perfume except essential oil of lavender and citronella as bug spray. There was a stupendous thunderstorm Saturday evening when I arrived and the little streams near-bye are now swollen and happy.
Glad you made it safely through the thunderstorm! I hope you have a great visit!😀🌷🌻
Thank you Lillyjo, yes enjoying every minute even hand-washing laundry which feels exotic somehow and everything dries so fast and smells so good.
How nice that sounds!
Yes, if my son has to take care of us we are in trouble…he had it in May, hope he avoids another case!
So envious! It’s been years since I’ve been to France. Hoping I can rectify that in the next five years.
Here’s hoping you will get to France soon. Traveling was easy, they don’t ask any proof of vaccination.
Your scent-scape sounds wonderful. Glad to hear that you arrived safely and are enjoying yourself!
Thank you so much Jalapeno, happy as a clam to be where I am.
Oh geez, I’m sorry covid has hit your household, Robin. I hope you can somehow avoid it. Like others, I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you!
After all the chat yesterday about iris, I’m in Prada Infusion d’Iris, from the 30ml bottle I bought in 2007. I have less than half of it left and it still smells okay, but maybe weaker. I’m thinking I need to use this one up a little faster. 😳
Thanks Nancyleandros!
I too am awaiting an order from Upton. Disappointed they switched from USPS priority mail to FedEx. Orders used to get here lickety split; this one shipped over a week ago. Never thought I’d sing the praises of the PO over FedEx, but here we are!
Like Nancyleandros, all the iris talk has me in ISM this morning.
Robin, hope you escape the plague and that your husband is merely inconvenienced.
So glad you said that, had not noticed they switched but now see that I am getting my box fedex too. Oh well.
FedEx is slow! I bought a pair of sneakers 2 weeks ago and I just got it on Saturday — way too long.
Lately FedEx has been a mixed bag for me. Sometimes there is no difference, and other times it feels like my stuff is arriving via the slowest truck in their fleet,
Hoping the best for you and your household Robin. 🍋 🍵
Commando after some musks didn’t agree with me. I have been on a Dunkins kick lol. They have a pump spice donut..what to do? Lol.
Not too many perfumes have a pumpkin note. Should there be more pumpkin in perfumes ya think?
Once, I tried Pumpkin Cheerios and they were pretty meh. I usually love pumpkin. The best are pumpkin bagels with maple cream cheese..:).
113f….ugh..so.over.this.heatwave. lol.
Summer came late? Sheesh lol.
Thanks Omega! And wow, sorry for that heat, that’s crazy.
Hoping that you get a break from the heat sometime soon! 🔥🔥🔥
Your heat wave is…wow! Dunkin’ Donuts came to our town a while back, and I have not made it over there yet. Thanks for reminding me. Oh, and regarding the Cheerios: the OG is just the best. I am surprised General Mills can’t realize that people don’t want frou-frou Cheerios. But that’s just me, and I do like them with fresh banana slices, or maybe a few walnuts tossed in!
ITA with you on the OG Cheerios & banana slices! It’s one of the only ways I can tolerate bananas.
😀 Jalapeno: the Cheerios and banana combo is just a breakfast classic!
I respectfully disagree. IMHO the 1990s Team Cheerios (RIP) were THE BEST!!! And I’ll take Multigrain or Honey Nut over OG any day.
https://www.theguardian.com/food/2022/aug/21/pickled-magnolias-springs-first-flowers-are-edible-with-a-potent-spicy-kick?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
Still very frosty cold here but no more snow and I can see stars outside. I saw this interesting article about magnolia petals in the paper. They are edible, can be pickled like ginger or used fresh in salads and taste like spicy ginger. I wonder if they are a bit like chicory root in terms of bite.. I imagine they would bruise when you cut or tear them. It would be the perfect time to find out as all the magnolias are in bloom now.
I hope you stay well, Robin.
Drinking a chamomile, honey and vanilla tea ( Twinnings) Sweet and scented. Wearing Autumn Vibes but will search out something with hay.
Pickled Magnolias! This is delightful, thanks for the link!
The new craze here has been pickled “spekboom”,in salads it adds a nice crunch.I’ll try and find a link to post as well!✌🏻
https://www.samara.co.za/blog/five-things-didnt-know-spekboom/#:~:text=Spekboom%20is%20edible%2C%20with%20a,hiking%20in%20the%20arid%20Karoo.
There you go!😉
That’s really interesting. I will visit our South African section of the botanic gardens and see if I can find some. Thanks!!
Thanks Kanuka!
I don’t know if I want a jar of pickled magnolia or not. Maybe it’s delicious.
If pickled magnolias taste anything like gari, I’m in!
Good luck with Covid recovery for your husband and avoidance for you, Robin!
I love that tea set, the mixed patterns and tailored shapes.
Still commando and returning to bed for a nap. I’m especially achey today. Will report in later on SOTD. I’ve got to go get done groceries and now I know what kind of ice cream to buy!
Thanks, and hope it was a good nap!
Let us know about the ice cream
Hope that you have a respite from being ache-y.
Wishing your husband a quick recovery and that you are spared, Robin.
I’ve been wearing my new perfumes all week but today I wanted Cristalle so Cristalle it is.
Yay Cristalle 🙂
SOTD is Copal Azur, again. It’s lovely and dependable, and fits a wide range of my moods.
You smell great!
Fingers crossed, Robin, that you don’t get Covid and your husband recovers quickly.
I’ll have to check what I might have with a hay note, meanwhile I’m wearing the not-at-all hay-like Noir de Noir from Tom Ford.
I did not realize I have a couple with said hay note, including Chergui!
But I jave an extra-special one reserved for Friday.I better get triple points, haha!!
I wish I had started a hay tag, but too late for that! Offhand:
Hermes Brin de Reglisse
Parfums de Nicolai Vie de Chateau
Hiram Green Vivacious
DSH Estancia
Oriza L. Legrand Foin Fraîchement Coupé
Lubin Epidor
Parfum d’Empire Tabac Tabou
Parfum d’Empire Corsica Furiosa
Oh, and Azemour Les Orangers too! So I am set.
Diptyque Volutes
Parfumerie Generale Felanilla
Yes – I will follow up on that one.
L’Artisan Parfumeur L’Eau de L’Artisan
I loved Vie de Chateau enough to thunk my 30ml bottle, only to find out it was discontinued, boo. It was a perfect late summer/early fall scent.
Yeah, that was a really great scent I should have bought years ago. They might still make the intense, not sure.
PSA – I recently found out that PdN will make up bottles of (at least some of) their discontinued scents. You have to get the big 250ml bottle and order in advance at one of their boutiques. Suzan at ShopFrance is currently helping me navigate this for another scent.
Wow, good intel. I wonder how far back into their archives they will/can go. I have a partial bottle that’s getting low called Eau de Lude that is lovely.
Lostmarch Lann-Ael — a favorite of mine.
In a sample of Ryan Richmond’s Rich Mess today, trying to figure out what I can and can’t smell right now. My previous notes on this are leather + saffron play doh + green lily + a hint of fig. Today I get leather (probably at half strength) and a little bit of the play doh and green lily. Still not big on this one.
Drinking Orange Tangerine Zinger today, which must have some hibiscus in it because it a beautiful dark pink. Maybe all the Zingers have hibiscus? I should investigate
Yes, all of Celestial Seasonings Zinger teas have hibiscus. Have you tried the Raspberry Zinger yet?
I haven’t. Is it good? I thought it might be too tart for me (like Red Zinger is).
Yep! I think the Raspberry is my favorite of the Zingers that I have tried. The Tangerine/Orange is second place.
The Red Zinger and Lemon Zinger are the “tartest” ones I have tried.
ooh, I’ll have to give it a try then. Thanks!
Sending more good health vibes your way, Robin!
And thank you for the Hay note list. I might have more hay contenders than I thought 🙂
Forgot Sotd – AdV Pallisandre d’Or (House twins with Lisa D)
I was surprised to read that this has Ambroxan since that usually sends me scrubbing but it’s integrated well enough here that it enhances rather than detracts.
“Palissandre”
I believe Morillas was the nose for that, not surprised he could make ambroxan work. It’s a good scent. 👍
Yes, and yes 👍
Thanks allo — I have more hay than I thought too.
Robin, wishing your husband a quick recovery and fingers crossed you stay away from Covid.
Wearing Hermes Un Jardin en Meditarranee on this most needed rainy day. Coffee ice cream waiting for me at home.
Happy Tuesday! 🌞
Whoo hoo for ice cream stashed at home! 🍨
Thanks! Enjoy that ice cream.
I was surprised to discover that I have enough fragrances & samples with a hay note to be CP compliant all week! Some of them might even work decently well in this heat.
SOTD is Brin Reglisse.
Robin, sorry to hear that Covid has made its way into your household. I hope it will be as non-eventful as can be!
Thanks, and you smell great! I bet lots of us will be BdR before the week is out.
Adding covid free/get well wishes for you and yours, Robin. My husband and I both had covid as soon as we got to Louisiana, ugh.
Wearing Wazamba today. Stopped at Ulta to try Azzaro The Most Wanted again. It has that “manly” note that’s in most newer masculine perfumes but after less than an hour this blissful toffee note emerges combined with cardamom. I keep thinking how wonderful it would smell in cold weather 🧐
I’m going to try it next time I am in Ulta.
Interesting…toffee and cardamom sounds nice!
Robin, I am sorry to hear that COVID has struck your household again. Hope you avoid it altogether, and that your husband has a mild case & quick, uneventful recovery.
Cool, very rainy day for me. Had a terrible night of sleep last night, so between that and the weather I have been a slug today. I did rouse up enough energy to vacuum the master bedroom and the stairs this afternoon, though. Teflon kitty is very displeased by this turn of events. 😾
SOTD = back in L’Artisan Passage d’Enfer again today. Might be time to swap in some early fall perfumes for the “Grab and Go” stash.
The greek tragedy of kitties causing the dreaded vacuuming because of their own shedding…
Hahahahahahahaha!
Remember this ad series? https://youtu.be/G4Sn91t1V4g
More hahahahahahahah: Vee, you take the cake on this one!
Oh and “Dear Kitten” is so adorable, J!
I don’t remember this but I love it!
The very first “Dear Kitten” commercial is one of the best Super Bowl ads of all time. It came out ages ago, and I still remember it!
😂💀These are great! I’ve never seen them before (although I recognize the voiceover actor from some TikToks).
Is your perfume separated into categories?
Only in my mind! 🤣🤣🤣
Do you feel you have enough choices of perfumes that are good year-round? If I were to do a grab and go, I would do that, but the chances of me ever doing that is less than nil 😆.
I have at least 3 perfumes that I can think of as excellent “year round” perfumes. But right now I am working on whatever I find myself in the mood for, LOL!
Thanks Jalapeno! Can’t complain, we’ve had it easier than most people.
Hope you sleep tonight!
You smell great, Pd’E is a firm favorite. I can imagine the cat wanting to escape from the vacuum cleaner, my Schnooky was always surprised at it but not afraid.
I have a lot on my mind today.
I have 2 days off after tonight though and hopefully I can sort through some of it. I copied Madtowngirl for my sotd with Over the Musk.
Robin I am sending well wishes to your husband and hope you stay well too.
Sort away my dear. I hope you have a good two days off!
Yay for 2 consecutive days off!
I hope you have time for reflection and fun in the next couple of days:)
And I am sending back well wishes for peace of mind!
Yay-twins!🙌 Enjoy your two days off!🌞
Enjoy your time off with not too much worrying.
Robin, I hope you escape the clutches of COVID-19. Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your husband!
SOTD = SL Chergui
W00t! Love it!
Update on my friend’s husband. He’s definitely doing better but he told his doctor today that he is not yet ready to go home. He will be moved to a sub-acute rehab center this Friday; hopefully, the paperwork can be completed in time. The best idea is for him to go home when he’s ready but my friend will need to arrange for services herself. I offered my help again and hopefully my friend will take me up on my offer.
Glad to hear that there is good news for your friend’s husband. That sort of paperwork is a hideous PITA, though.
I’m really happy your friends husband is doing better.
I wish I had a friend to help me when my mom was sick. There is so much to know.
Smelling so good in your Chergui! And that is good news about your friend’s husband. So nice of you to offer your help, too.
Thank you , and good luck to friend’s husband!
Robin, I hope nasssty covid will be curtailed in your house!
SotD a mystery perfume from Ebay. Nerdy details follow just in case some has seen it before. The bottle is +/- 4″; a rectangle with beveled corners, on one of which are the words “Givaudan-Roure.” A Parfumo web site search show the exact bottle I have. Best guess of notes are aldehydes, rose, freesia, grapefruit, and clean musk. Maybe some lily of the valley? Some other research shows that Givaudan bought Roure in 1991. I wonder if this was a commemorative bottle from some corporate conference? It smells…nice, but not my style.
Wish I could help but your mystery bottle is not sounding familiar at all.
I love a good mystery, but I’m no help either.
You bought a mystery bottle? I’m impressed, that’s bold!
Thanks everyone who read and/or responded! Yes, I happily seek and consider mystery perfumes, if the bottle is a commercial spray, looks clean, and comes from a good seller! This is the only one I’ve ever gotten that was a true mystery.
Adding to the chorus of good wishes for Robin and her mister. Fingers crossed!
I have exactly ONE CP-compliant fragrance, Jasmin et Cigarette, since my sample of Chergui (which didn’t wear well on me, to my dismay, because I adore the top notes) is all gone. I wore Paris-Deauville today, instead. With two doctors’ appointments this week, I’ll probably do the CP only on Thursday.
But speaking of hay notes: can someone who understands notes better than I do explain why French Lover always says “hay” to me, but hay is not listed as note (at least not o. Fragrantica)? What is my brain (mis)reading as hay?
Maybe coumarin or tonka combined with something is what your brain calls “hay”?
Notes are meaningless…if something smells like hay, go with it!
(I don’t think anybody is distilling hay…)
Robin, I hope you can stay negative and that your husband is feeling better very soon.
I was mostly unscented today since it was back to warm-ish temps. I’m currently in Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse. It’s quite a delicate scent, lovely to wind down at night. Going to check into my options for the CP!
We don’t have any coffee ice cream on hand but I did enjoy a bit of Rolo ice cream for dessert! Not bad!
Rolo ice cream is nothing to sneeze at 😉
