It's Almost-Friday, plus, happy Bastille Day! It's also Shark Awareness Day. Birthdays: Gustav Klimt, Ingmar Bergman. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Providence Perfume Co Branch & Vine. Yes, I would like a bottle.
Reminder: 7/15 will be FBW Friday...wear a full-bottle-worthy perfume that you have not yet bought, but would like to. (This is probably a repeat.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Now I’m curious about that perfume, Robin. Just read the review, sounds great. I’m in Ta´if, would love a decant of this one.
I really like it. I would buy the small size were it not for the roller bottle
Ta’if is totally FBW!
Thunked a sample of Ormonde Jayne Isfarkand: I’ve had it for eons and only just finished it today because it isn’t very interesting, really. I mean, it’s fine, it’s whatever, but I sure wouldn’t buy a whole bottle, so I guess it’s kind of the anti-CP.
Which means you lose points today 😉
Wait, you can LOSE CP points?? I was unaware!
Presumably most of us have so many points for general good perfumistaship that we can afford to lose one or two along the way 😉
Copying Pyramus in the anti-cp I am one spray away from thunking my sample of Scandal by Roja. Its just a white floral with a huge price tag.
I finished my Etiquette book. I learned some pointers for small talk and to body language. One thing she mentions is how to stand elegantly which is in a relaxed 3rd position in ballet. Most of the book I skimmed through..
Tomorrow I hope to participate in the CP but I am volunteering at the library and so I usually am commando or a 1 light spray of something..Yours truly, Ms Bookman
In beauty related news, yesterday I started a serum treatment for my hair/scalp. Its by Renee Furterer. I read lots of positive reviews online, and I think its stress but my hair is needed some TLC.
Good luck! My eyebrows have suddenly gotten patchy, I think from stress, and my sister who had the same issue swears by a particular serum, so I bit the bullet and ordered some. NOT cheap. We’ll see how it goes. I hope your hair responds to the TLC!
Wishing you luck too.
I agree these serums are not cheap
Would you mind telling what serum this is? My eyebrows could certainly use some help!
Okay. I am pretty sure I am beyond ever appear elegant, but I am definitely going to try that relaxed third position! Who knows what might result 🙂
I tried in front of the mirror
If any good comes of it, please let me know!
I tried it in the mirror. I think my feet are too big 😉 !
Excellent. My feet are probably too small.
Was there a chapter on how to sit in the corner and stare into space? Politely.
😂😂😂
There was actually some information on how to sit, as in when someone pulls out the chair for you, and once you sit you should keep you legs together and put them off to the left and you can cross your ankles but never your legs. 😂
I’m working on the CP in the almost last dregs of a mini of Safari that I’ve had since the nineties. I always forget how much I love this until I wear it. It is definitely full bottle worthy, but I keep getting sidetracked by the “niche” fragrances.
Safari is a classic at this point, isn’t it.
SOTM is Wazamba, from a decant provided by a very sweet NSTer. A bottle has been in and back out of my LS cart many times, along with a bottle of Regime des Fleurs Little Flower, as I waffle hopelessly over whether I actually need either in FB quantity. Right now I think I need both, but there are also Bel Ami, Bel Respiro, Cuir Cannage, and a host of others to consider (such as vintage Sous le Vent, unavailable at any price I fear). Must. Win. Lottery. Or something. At least I have no shortage of CP choices for tomorrow!
you smell great!!
Accidently I am right on point with the CP. Wearing Ambra Aurea from a little sample vial that has been floating around my work surface for weeks. I have gone through two decants of this but for some reason each time I am ready to buy it I neglect to pull the trigger. It is expensive, and strong, so one doesn’t need very much of it per wearing. (The 18 ml, which is what I should buy, is a whopping $100 if I could ever find it.) My current decant it tucked away with my winter perfumes. But I do love love love this perfume.
I got a 9ml for about 49 clams on Scent Split. just a thought.
I have lots if you run out. 🙂
No one said being a perfume lover would be easy! Just cough up. 18ml is almost 20ml which is just about right for a year of pleasure.
It is so ha aa aa aa rd. (Best whiny voice ever!)
Robin, you smell lovely. I have a sample of that one, too, though have never bought the FB.
SOTD is House of Gozdawa Hel, which from paper I thought might like because it was interesting & a bit different than what I normally gravitate towards, but on my skin it doesn’t work. Notes are grapefruit marsh, tuberose, and cajeput. I got a bit of the grapefruit to start, and I can smell the tuberose in there, but I think it’s the cajeput that’s not agreeing with me? (I wasn’t familiar with this note before now.) On me, it smells like a hippie shop in Harvard Square in about 1993. I did like some of the other House of Gozdawa scents — Simo and Guilty Pleasures were well put together.
Anyway, I left the store with Please Wait Here from Apartment, another local brand. I liked everything I smelled from Apartment, but Please Wait Here felt more like this moment to me — sunny late afternoon, winter, after a very chill drive along Chapman’s Peak Drive. I’ll be sad to leave Cape Town! (And many, many thanks to Johanò for his list of local brands!)
It sounds like you’re having a great trip! I’m very happy for you.
The trip of a lifetime it sounds like! I’ve been enjoying you IG post. 🥰
I loved my visits to South Africa, sounds like you are having fun!
Were you able to meet up with J B in person?
It sounds like you are having a fantastic time in South Africa!
I love the name Please Wait Here!
Wearing no 5 edp today. Saw the Doobie Brothers on Tuesday while wearing Gris Charnel. The concert was okay but they seemed a little more interested in playing stuff from their upcoming album. Didn’t go to hear the new stuff, wanted to hear the stuff that made them great. Oh well.
Sorry you did not love the concert!
Continuing with samples today – I wore A Quiet Morning from Miller et Bertaux for my quiet morning. It was nice, but it was a little flat on my skin. I’d love to smell it on my husband.
Post-shower I switched to Aedes de Venustas’ Signature. Now this one I really like!!! The rhubarb/ tomato leaf is just dynamite.
I will always regret not getting a second bottle of this beauty.
Is the version being offered in the new bottles different than the original version?
alas, no. I shall have to live with this regret.
Oh, that’s too bad!
Alas, nearing the end of my decant of Capsule’s Covey. I visited the store which had stocked it, but they don’t believe they can get it again. Might not be available anywhere in Canada, but will make another sweep.
Good luck AnnieA!
PSA: Kate Walsh has her new website up and running, http://www.boyfriendperfume.com. For a sample of Boyfriend, use code SAMPLER and just pay $4.99 for shipping. It looks like it is US only.
I’ve wanted to try Boyfriend for a while and couldn’t find it anywhere, so I was happy to see this. I am hoping it lives up to the hype. Today I am wearing Grand Neroli, from one of the little vials in my Atelier Advent calendar from a couple of years back. It’s nice, and if I didn’t have hundreds of bottles already I might be tempted to buy a full bottle, but I do so I won’t.
If you subscribe to their email list, you’ll see that they have generous sales almost as frequently as I sneeze. (Which is often – stupid nature.)
I got super sneezy in the garden unexpectedly today, and though no one was around, I had to drop what I was doing and head for the tissue box!
I hope you’re feeling better now!
There is an 8ml travel spray on the website as well as other sizes:
https://boyfriendperfume.com/products/boyfriend-eau-de-parfum-spray-8-ml
Amazon also had the EDT and EDP on sale now. Just saying…😀
You enabler, you!
Wearing Arty Positano Vanille Fleur d’Oranger from Maison de la Vanille and loving it! Similar to LDBS and Sintra in some ways with more pronounced citrus so far in the opening.
Mr. She-ra is now negative👍🏻but has back pain from a coughing fit yesterday. 🙁
I hope the Mr. has a speedy recovery
Thank you, LTSG.
Poor Mr. She-ra. I’ve got sore stomach muscles from coughing too.
Work has been busy and annoying this week so I was not up-to-date on comments. I am so sorry to hear you are sick 🙁 and wish you a very speedy recovery.
Thank you!
I hope the pain eases soon. Back pain is the pits.
Thank you, Kanuka!
Ugh, Mr. She-ra has had a rather rough time of it lately. Back pain sucks!
I’m in Copal Azur, for no other reason than I haven’t worn it for a while. It’s a contender for the CP, but I’m not sure that I love it so much that I’d buy it instead of something else. Has anybody found that fragrance “wow” experiences are getting more infrequent? Perhaps it’s just habituation to the circumstances of intensely focusing on a scent, or the fact that I’ve spent many years exploring fragrance and am rarely surprised anymore, or that I just don’t keep up with new releases. It’s been a long time since I’ve smelled something and thought — “That’s altogether gorgeous and I must have it!”
Agree – it’s been a long time for me as well.
It happens much less frequently, that’s for sure.
All too often. 🤦
I love a matching lotion and fragrance. The notes just have to be similar. If there are holes in my collection, like my quest for a beach scent, then I hunt. The suggestions here are usually spot on. And, don’t get me started on my search for sentimental fragrances.
Annie, did you get my email?
Hey!
Will respond by tomorrow. Rough day, today.
💜
No rush!
Yep. The “Wow!” moments are fewer for me as well. But I still find a few things to amaze me, especially if I am poking around in my Perfume Bottle Stash.
That would be a good CP, bottles rediscovered that amaze!
Good question and thoughts, Lisa D. Too bad one can’t have a newbie nose for a day!
Crispy sourdough toast with mixed berry jam and coffee is currently being ingested and enjoyed.
Still wafting CSP Vanille Café from my before bedtime application last night.
Note twin! I love sourdough toast and wonder what brand your jam is – a locally crafted one or something from Kroger?
It’s the Whole Foods Brand, 365. My absolute favorite jam is the Trader Joe’s Reduced Sugar Wild Blueberry, but I haven’t seen it on any of the TJ shelves this past year. It’s absolutely the BEST! 😋
Again wore some of my office stash, a mix of Coriandre and Tea Rose. I even have it mixed up in a decant, because i really like it. Now after showers i am in Montale White Musk. Its not that bad in our heatwave. I would like a bottle of Givenchy III, has someone tested the current formulation? I have a sample of the vintage, and this is great stuff.
Coriandre and Tea Rose together much be great…wish I could have both in their original formulations!
Many sprays of Sana Jardin Vanilla Nomad. Not that I am going anywhere.
How do find that vanilla, please? I haven’t tried it and would have bought the small size but I won’t reward companies for churning out rollerballs. 😉
I like it and layer it with other fragrances from their line. I like Incense Water a lot. It is more sandalwood than vanilla.
Knowing your love of vanilla – I dont think you are missing anything.
More CP points for me in my small decant of Bois des Iles EDP (thanks to a generous NST swapper). I would love Santa or the Easter Bunny or the perfume fairy to gift me a bottle of the parfum concentration. Maybe someday.
Took me a long time this morning to talk myself into doing my workout. Why is it like that when it feels so good afterwards?
I am exactly the same re. Workout or work. The thing that I use to trick me into action is employing curiosity. So, instead of saying ‘do it, you’ll be glad” I say, “ I wonder how it will go today and how I will feel. I wonder what will happen that’s different from yesterday. I wonder what I’ll see and notice. I wonder if I will feel stronger or tired“ For some reason that works . I think it makes it less of a boring, repetitive trial and more of an adventure into the unknown. Plus I promise myself, “just give it a few minutes and then you can give up”
That’s a good approach, I like it. Will try it with my languishing meditation practice.
That’s a very smart strategy. I am quite lazy but also very curious and that has helped me to no end in life. 😉 I have often told my boss that I am not necessarily the smartest person in any room/meeting, etc. but I am very curious and often hunt down answers/figure out things others won’t b/c it doesn’t make sense/piques my interest. Perfume and curiosity go very well together too. 🙂
Great suggestion. The promise of getting in at least a few minutes is good, too – because I will always go ahead and finish.
This reminds me that I used to have a good strategy, but fell out of the habit. I would work out in the morning, so the deal I made with myself was that I had to put on my sneakers and brush my teeth. If I didn’t want to work out after that, I could go back to bed. 99% of the time, I did the work out (and honestly, I probably was better off getting extra sleep the other other 1%). I need to find a similar strategy now that my schedule has changed and I want to get myself to work out at night…
Maybe a retirement gift 🎁 from you to you or from Mr. SP to you?
Chanel No 5 EDP
Always FBW!
Tough morning, feeling slightly better after a tylenol with codeine. I might be able to go for a walk.
Will wear another sample today, Thomas de Monaco Pure Gold.
Glad you’re feeling a bit better! Hoping you have some good “walking weather” to lift your spirits. 😊
Fog just burned off, a bit of sun now.
Goodness you’ve been having a rough time. I really hope you feel better soon. Sending a big hug
Thank you Kanuka, I appreciate it.
How do you like Pure Gold please? I think it might have too much leather for me.
Also sending big hugs to you and hope you are able to go for a walk today.
Yes, it’s leathery on me too.
I hope that the weather cooperated with your plans for a walk. Hugs!
Hope you could have your walk. Pure Gold is getting some love around here. Are you thinking FB?
It’s pleasant but I don’t need any more leather scents.
Not too long ago I read The Best Intentions by Inmarsat Bergman. It’s based on the marriage of his parents and was later made into a movie . The father is a divinity student, whereas the mother has money. It’s a really good book about the nature of relationships: son/ mother, husband/ wife and the struggles between them. It has a sadness and tenderness to it. Someone compared it to Ibsen but if you like Edith Wharton you might also like it. Matching it to Chypre Mousse : a bit introverted, spare and beautiful.
Still raining! I walked in the graveyard yesterday and saw a very sorry looking rabbit. It was drenched and staring into space, but hopped away, through a hole in a slab of concrete ( under a grave ). Signs of daffodil buds. The trees had that stark look they get when they are soaked through, very dark against the grey sky.
Ingmar Bergman. Why Immarsat, I wonder?
It’s the name of a satellite telephone company. 🙂
😊
Heh, Big Brother is watching!
😀 Too funny!!
Never heard of it!
I’m heading into the office today, I am definitely feeling better, although still not quite back to normal. I was going to wait till Monday, but the IT issues are piling up. Lots of systems have changed, and more and more things are not working on my laptop and phone.
I’ll wear Chambre Noire for my expedition, nothing to do with the CP, but very appropriate for a winter day.
Good luck! You smell wonderful.
Glad to hear that you are feeling better.
My sample of Momotaro from On the Nose is rather condensed and sticky at this point and I unfortunately will never have a full bottle. The etsy shop was theoretically taking a short break but hasn’t returned in years and there doesn’t seem to be any other mention of the perfumer either
Well drat!
I got my workout in today by vacuuming the stairs and the master bedroom. The cats were not thrilled by this turn of events, and promptly vanished when I fired up said vacuum.
SOTD = back in yesterday’s layering of Dame Narcissus Soliflore perfume oil and Wrappings EdP.
Sometimes the workout aspect of vacuuming is a big part of my motivation to get it done! 🙂
It was a choice between laundry or vacuuming today. Thrilling, huh?
I’m with the cats. I hate the sound of a vacuum cleaner.
🤣🤣🤣! But it’s such a good biceps workout!
Sounds like such a great combination! I have both, and will try it out.
I have enjoyed it, but wish that the Narcissus would hang around a little longer. YMMV!
Good on you for vacuuming!
It was definitely time! Summer seems to be the height of shedding season for the cats, and I was seeing tiny cat fur tumbleweeds on the carpet.
For the CP: Un Bois Vanille. I have a Frag…Net travel spray, which could *almost* be a lifetime supply. I think it smells so strait-forwardly delightful, and it lasts on me. I passed a full bottle up many times to buy one of M. Luten’s more unusual creations but it is now a high favorite in the way Claire de Musc is, or Vetiver Oriental. Uncle Serge and Mr. Sheldrake made my favorite musk and vetiver, and I think this might be my favorite vanilla!
I still have some old SLs on my buy list, but I think they’re all the ones that got reformulated so much that I wouldn’t want them now.
Took a mini vacation earlier this week with a friend who I haven’t gotten to see much during COVID. We drove ridiculously far to see our favorite band at an outdoor venue. Seeing her, going on vacation, and going to a concert made it feel like it was 2019!
I brought along my Fzotic samples because I’ll take any one of them in a full bottle, please. I’m back home today, and enjoying wafts of Ummagumma.
Tea today was a strong pot of Fortnum & Mason Countess Grey.
What fun!
I thought I had a good candidate for the cp. Fenty edp.
I sprayed my sample when I got to work, and way oversprayed! After about 10 minutes it started making me feel sick to my stomach. Ugh… that was 4 hours ago and I am still wafting across the country I am sure.
Anyway, I no longer want a full bottle. Money saved!
Ha! You may have found the magic to make people lose interest in a perfume! 🤔
Your tale of perfume woe is also kinda funny. Sick to one’s stomach is not at all good, but I bet your wallet is pleased with this outcome.
So my SOTD, for CP points, is St. Clair Scents’ Song of Aubrac, a gorgeous fragrance centered on narcissus absolute and named for a rural region of France (Happy Bastille Day!). It is absolutely FBW, as are pretty much all of St. Clair Scents’ offerings. I think I’ll be wearing another tomorrow!
Song of Aubrac sounds great!
Sounds absolutely lovely!
I didn’t get around to commenting, but I wore a FBW St. Clair yesterday too! Mine was a Eve. Song of Aubrac is also lovely.
The good news for me is that I found my bottle of Caligna which does that trick of being all pine needles instead of figgy, good thing I like pine needles. Don’t seem to be able to drop off to sleep 😴 again, it’s midnight here, so I’m going to read the comments instead.
Oh boo for another night of insomnia!
Thank you, I don’t know what’s wrong with me, 3:30am now and wide awake, hope you are having a peaceful evening with the cats after the vacuuming.
SOTD = Tauer Dark Passage
Long discontinued and if we were to believe Andy, never to be made again…I am still hoping for more!
There was transit suspension this morning and I gave myself 2 extra hours of sleep 😴. Tomorrow’s another day!
I picked up my air purifier today and it is now all set up. So I moved the one I had in the living room to the extra messy room upstairs. I really need to get back to cleaning.
Looking forward to see what everyone’s picks are tomorrow!
Yay for the extra sleep, but yuck for the transit suspensions!
And perfume discontinuations!
