It's Wednesday and I've overslept terribly. Watch for the Buck supermoon tonight! It's also French Fries Day, plus a very happy 82nd birthday to Sir Patrick Stewart. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in a little drop of Le Labo Lys 41, on my buy list but I'll probably never pay the price.
Reminder: 7/15 will be FBW Friday...wear a full-bottle-worthy perfume that you have not yet bought, but would like to. (This is probably a repeat.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

CSP Vanille Canelle. Not at all appropriate for the weather, buuuuuut… I don’t care. I like it.
All that matters 🙂
Ditto that.
“I like it” is the best reason of all for wearing a perfume.
House twin!🙌 I’m in Bergamote 22.
After a couple of restless nights, I slept like a rock last night! This morning is beautiful and felt cooler than it has in days. It *almost* reminded me of how some fall mornings feel, but then I quickly shoved that out of my mind! Not yet!😩
NOT YET, please!!
We have your heat and humidity here, keeping it safe for you 🙂
Not at ALL ready for Fall! It’s finally just starting to feel like a real summer where I am at. And all the tasty summer fruits are showing up at the grocery stores. 😋
I’m enjoying a perfect watermelon this week – we all know the perfect ones are gigantic and have seeds, right?? – and looking forward to the best cherries next week!
I have a few candidates for Friday, but I’m trying some untested samples today and tomorrow to see if anything else makes my list. Right now I’m testing 16a Orchard from Aedes de Venustas. It’s nice enough, but I don’t think I’d even need a travel spray.
Showering later today because I have a mammogram appointment this afternoon. I’ll try another sample after that’s all over.
Good luck with your mammogram!
Good luck!
Hope it is quick & easy!
Hope that your mammogram was quick, not terribly painful, and uneventful.
I’m wearing 1899 from H de P, which is one of my favorites of the brand. It’s from my discovery set. I wouldn’t mind a travel bottle, but I will probably make do with a decant.
That’s Hemingway, for anyone else like me who can’t remember the years!
My paternal Grandmother, Hemmingway, and E. B. White were all born in 1899. I’ve often thought about how they might have all understood certain things about living in that time, as many of us remember 1979, 1989 and 1999, though their life circumstances were so different.
Ciao to everyone..
If Springpansy happens to be reading today, I finished the article by George Will that you gave me the link to. I was not surprised by much of what he said, but it is a concern for society with the lack of liberal arts majors, and I read the link he provided in his article.
I am having to pause on Madam Bovary as one of my library books came in and I started reading. Its called English Etiquette, perfect for me since sometimes I have no etiquette 🙁 My friend recommended it me after I was telling her how sometimes I have a hard time making small talk in social situations where I don’t know anyone. I will put it to the test this coming week when I have an event.
SOTD, for the CP, Cartier Panthere
I am terrible at small talk, so I should read that too.
There is also a chapter on poise and body language.
Ha…feel like it is too late for poise, that ship has sailed 😉
Ciao LTSG!
1. You smell very nice today. I happen to have a (recently acquired) bottle of La Panthère eau Légère EdP. I could send you a decant if it’s something you’d be interested in. Let me know, you have my email.
I don’t know how it compares to the other La Panthères but from what I’ve read they are not that different.
2. I too sometimes have a hard time making small talk with strangers so I’m curious to know if you found this book helpful for those situations.
I will keep you posted after Monday.
I am skipping around the book to read what I need help with.
That is so kind of you to offer!
I sent you an email last night! Thank you
Hi LTSG, busy morning at work so I’m just now joining NST to check in. Thanks for posting about the Will article. You’re doing a great job encouraging your children to read — you set a great example with your own reading and you take them to the library!
My best tip for talking to strangers (also hard for me) is to ask them about themselves. That usually gets the conversation going at least.
Hello all!
Robin overslept and I woke up four hours early. Must be something in the air!
I’m in Baiser Vole, the OG EdP. Very pretty but I feel like I missed the more interesting variants. I dithered about blind-buying the extrait when it was $80 on fragrance net until it sold out! As is I feel like a fluffy cloud.
Have a great day everyone!
House twins.
I haven’t smelled Baiser Vole-I must give it a whiff.
I haven’t seen Cartier at Sephora anymore -this is where I usually go to sniff perfumes from this line
Cartier hasn’t had much luck with pillars, that’s the truth. I really like Baiser Vole though it is a bit bland after the first hour.
I stole your sleep! Sorry, but gosh it was nice, I usually wake up after 7 hours, like clockwork.
Jealous!! I got a notification at 3:30am and never went back to sleep. 🥲
3:30am wake up twin – bleh – but did get back to sleep only to have a sort of dream that I was awake! I did manage to get a nap, and felt reasonably alert today.
I’m so glad you got a nap! I just had a crazy amount of coffee. 😂😂😂
I was thinking about the CP, and was wondering if we ever did “Wear this perfume you haven’t opened.” It might be too niche (no pun intended) but I can’t be the only one who keeps something really rare sealed up for a special occasion!
Great idea!
Thanks!
Really? I have no such thing. Anyone else have unopened bottles they are saving?
Oh man, I hope I’m not the only one. Top of my list is some 60’s Chant d’Aromes extrait, in the urn bottle. I’ve had it for years at this point but never felt like it’s time to open it. It’s a unique feeling for sure.
Coumarin, you aren’t alone. I have unopened bottles of perfume, too.
Wow, see, I am not that patient…I would have opened that baby right off.
But I’m sure saving it for the right time is the better thing to do.
Testing Sunset Hour today. I smell like a good hug I think!
Last night I tried Cuir de Chine and liked it a lot. It is perfume I’d like the person I am with to be wearing. Do you know what I mean?
I know exactly what you mean, and I wish my husband was more cooperative 😉
Cuir de Chine is one of my favorites from the Les Indemodables discovery set so far!
You need to be my person! Come hang out in it.
Nothing yet today, but I will report on yesterday’s new Francesca Bianchi Libertine Neroli. It supposedly has some animalic notes but I really didn’t get that, just a potent classic neroli with the characteristic soapy note. Despite having covid, my sense of smell is even more acute than ever, just a few drops from the dabber vial smelled strong. Crossing fingers my sniffer doesn’t get affected later.
Get well soon, hope you don’t suffer too many side effects.
Thank you!
At least for that! How many days in are you, Cazaubon?
Fifth day. Hoping I feel better soon. When I had it in April of 2020 it lasted about a week, didn’t lose smell or taste that time either.
I hope you are better soon too. I know so many people with covid at the moment, it’s sort of astonishing.
Feel better soon Cazaubon!
Thank you!
Hoping it passes quickly!
Me too! Hoping this is the tail end.
Sorry to hear you have Covid, I didn’t realize, and on top of all your other woes too. Sending you lots of healing thoughts!
Thank you, when it rains it pours! House selling woes, babysitting the hound from hell, and covid. :-0
I was thinking about the sampler set by this house…😬
Well worth it, I have pretty much all her scents. If you like Salome you may like her stuff. It is not all skanky, but there is a rather carnal feel to many of them.
Salome was the one I could not get near no matter the praises it gets.
Thank you for the report! I have a sample of Libertine Neroli on the way from Luckyscent.
Feel better soon!
Sending get well wishes your way! Glad to hear that your sense of smell is still all right.
Sending healing thoughts!
Here’s hoping you are on your final “dance” with Covid!
Also sending you healing thoughts. That’s 3 “things” you are dealing with. I think that’s usually the maximum, so you should be having a few good things happen very soon!
It’s only 430am but I love the peacefulness of early mornings, listening to the rain and the dogs snoring, and the house feels settled. I was outside and the moon is behind cloud but there is a blue glow-light. I am wearing Vanilliary, from an ancient bottle ( in ant years). I miss those old Lush bottles, with their quirky labels. They had a personality that is missing now. I am glad I kept my dropper bottles too. Be well!
I was up at 4 this AM as well, drinking ginger tea (having a tough time with new meds) and watching a possum make the rounds on our deck and in the trees beyond. The birds were up and singing their hearts out in the dark.
I was up at 4:30 too, because I went to bed at 8:15. ;-). Love to read about your early mornings.
Hi NST! I have a day at home and it is so peaceful and quiet. When things are stressful, I really value time alone in my dim, cool little house. For the CP, I’m wearing Zoologist Chipmunk. On paper, I should love this and it smells very good, especially the drydown, but I have too many scents that smell similar so I don’t need Chipmunk. Now, if a travel bottle fell from the sky I’d happily wear it.
I feel the same way. I love Mr. SP but he’s gone on a very short business trip for the first time in a long time and I reveled in my alone time in the house last night and this morning.
Whoo hoo for some alone time!
I feel a bit like a zombie as I had a short night, thank go for coffee.
Enjoying my favorite smoothie of banana, yogurt and fresh strawberries.
I was in the mood for fig so I looked for my bottle of Caligna but couldn’t find it so went for Flagrant Delice instead, it has almond and is very enjoyable in summer. Tonight it’s Laura Mercier eau gourmande Vanillé which is right up there with Profumi di Firenze Vaniglia del Madagascar.
The LM is probably my favorite straight up vanilla. You smell wonderful! I hope you sleep well tonight.
I’m with you on loving the LM Vanille as one of the top vanillas. Such a good one.
Thank you Lillyjo, a top vanilla for sure, trouble sleeping 😴 again tonight.
Short on sleep twins today. Here’s hoping we both get a good night’s rest tonight. 😴🥱
Thank you Jalapeno, sorry you had trouble sleeping too, it’s the same tonight, wide awake at midnight.
Zombie here too. Hoping for some good sleep for us tonight! Your fragrances sound pretty great!
Thank you Gail, I did enjoy the perfumes, sorry you had trouble in your sleeping pattern too.
I’m in Bel Ami, thinking that I wouldn’t mind smelling like this all the time.
Such a nice feeling!
Sadly, I am not traveling to Santa Fe to meet my sister. Sigh, trip delay until September.
SOTD is box of eels edt and edp. Why not?
How disappointing. At least you smell lovely.
Drats! Sorry you aren’t able to make the trip. Hoping that September rolls around quickly for you (and also selfishly for me since I love fall!)
You smell great Apsara. I’m sorry about the delayed trip. You must be disappointed.
Too bad you can’t make that trip yet. Hopefully, the summer will be enjoyable and it won’t seem like such a long time.
I’m so sorry. I like your approach – throw the fragrant kitchen sink at it. Why not, indeed!?!
Thanks all. September will be here soon and we will extend our trip by one day and celebrate my sisters’ birthday. It will be fine.
Glad it will happen in September!
Nice reward for the delay to get a birthday celebration in!
Good, and really it’s not that long a wait.
I’m sorry, I know you were so looking forward to it.
Weather may be nicer then too probably! September will be here in no time.
That’s what I was going to say. The one time I visited Santa Fe was in September and the weather was gorgeous. Sunny days in the high 70s and the nights cooled off to the 40s.
Phooey! Sorry to hear about your travel delay.
Woke late again today, and feeling rested! I can’t really blackout the van because the windows need to stay open and the fan spinning, so I’ve been wearing quite a nice eye mask that works well to black out my eye balls no matter what time of day. It’s the only reason I can sleep past sunrise in the summer.
I’m wearing The 7 Virtues Vetiver of Haiti today, sent to me by a lovely NSTer. It’s a wonderful summer weight Vetiver that leans a bit sweet and feminine. So far, my CP compliance is a big belly flop because I’ve been using FB’s all week. I’m grateful to have them, and while I have limited space, my collection is “just enough” for me.
Went through all my lippies this week and tossed many of them since I haven’t worn them at all in the Time of Covid. It was a little heartbreaking because I had some more expensive ones like the Bobbi Brown Crushed lip colors and oils, but really, it was time for them to go.
Happy Humpday!
You smell nice, Deva! I know what you mean about throwing away makeup; I just hate to do it. 😕
I know, I’ve been putting it off for weeks…💔
I am still wearing a lippie a friend gave to me in the early 2000s and it still smells good and behaves like it should…. I only toss mascara and things that smell or look funny.
Wow! That’s impressive!
I do the same. Some seem to go bad quickly while others last for 10+ years.
I have a very old – 20 years? – Burnt Sugar shimmer lip gloss from Bobbi Brown that I have loved and worn down to a nub. Not tossing til it’s all gone.
And happy dumpday to you too! My make-up mojo is pretty low and while I’ve tried to avoid buying more, I do get them as GWPs so often. I will try to give them away as freebies (nothing older than 18 months as long as I have not opened the item) when the weather gets colder.
In Avignon again and happy for this to be my PNW island fragrance.
It has me thinking about the re-release of The Holy Mountain, another great incense and possibly a FBW contender.
I have both of those, wonderful scents. Just got an update on the Apoteker Tepe re-release, delayed another month due to bottle mfg supply chain issues, but it will be exciting when they finally get here.
I wouldn’t mind a travel size of Avignon. Or better yet, a travel size coffret of all the CdG Incense series.
What a great idea!
Oh yah!
Yes, exactly! CdG really needs more travel sizes….if they did 15 ml they’d be the biggest brand in my collection. Instead, Hermes, thank you for the discovery sets!
Avignon is fantastic. I got a sample vial when I first starting trying perfumes, didn’t like it. I dropped the tiny vial on the bathroom floor and it broke. I vacuumed up the mess and my bathroom and vacuum smelled great. I ended up buying a bottle and loving it. Incense has definitely been an acquired taste for me but now it is one of my favorite categories.
I wore Bronze Goddess but ending up killing time at Sephora and spraying myself with lots of different scents. The mix smells surprisingly good.
I love that story! Isn’t it strange, the shifts in our fragrant self states?
Hello NST!
I’m wearing Les Indemodables Musc Des Sables today. I bought a decant soon after it came out and I like it a lot. Would not mind a full bottle but I’m in no hurry as this decant is lasting pretty well.
You smell lovely!
I’m sampling Chypre Palatin today. I really like it, even if I fully admit it smells a bit like bug spray to me. Like the most elegant and sophisticated bug spray.
I have a lot of onerous work tasks this week, can’t wait for the weekend.
It’s a very weird perfume but I do love it so!
Hi all, i lost my commenting mojo for some weeks but still wear perfumes daily. Today it was Untitled L´Eau from my decants i keep at work. I won ´t lug around a bottle while riding my bike in the heat. Still a good choice for this summer heatwave.
Glad to see your commenting groove is back!
Good to see you back!
Hope you are well tannina!
Wearing Mal Aimé again today! I just love this one for summer. Maybe I can get partial CP credit for having a BUB on my wishlist? ☺️
I say that counts. 🙂
Why not 🙂
Trying out some sample dab vials today. First up was Strangers Perfumery Yuzu Soda: liked the top, drydown was blah for me, but would probably smell great on a guy.
Now trying 19-69 Capri and really digging the top. If I like the drydown I could see myself reaching for this!
Glad something called Yuzu Soda at least had good top notes!
I’m in the all-out-gourmand of Oui Plus! by Kyse Perfumes, and thus am smelling more than a little edible.
I’ve submitted my formal letter of “intent to retire” with my final day being December 31, 2022! The thought of letting go of all of the responsibilities associated with work fills me with joyful anticipation. If nothing else, I’m convinced that not having to check work email will significantly increase my daily quality of life. Now I just have to make it through one more semester…..
Smell good, everybody!
Yay – I’m a few months ahead of you on August 22nd. I know that retiring doesn’t necessarily mean I won’t work again, but I’m curious how I will feel about purchasing perfumes once I leave. Will I feel worried about income? Freer to do what I want? Not need/want as much as I will be less stressed? We shall see.
I think what I’d like to happen is that I’ll have more time to explore all of the perfume that I already have — drawers of decants and samples that I never peruse because I’m usually in a hurried state and select from a few reliable scents.
Yes! And time for so many other areas of interest, too!
Congratulations on your pending retirement! I feel badly when people ask me if I like being retired and I reply, “It’s glorious.” I hope you feel the same when the time comes 🙂
“Glorious” is exactly what I’m looking for! Why feel bad? Celebrate your escape from the grind, I say.
Congratulations! That’s a hard decision to make sometimes.
Thanks, ringthing! It was definitely a decision that had me weighing financial concerns against mental/emotional/physical health issues, and the latter won.
that’s wonderful! I’m so happy for you, your retirement, and for putting yourself first. 🙂
Congratulations! 🎈✨🎊
Thanks!
Congratulations on that decision!
Thank you — I can hardly wait!
Congratulations – I’m a couple months into my first year of retirement. While I do miss the “day to day” with some of my wonderful co-workers, I’ve never felt like I did not have something fun, or important, or useful, to do!
That’s what I imagine — that I’ll occasionally have those moments in which I miss a certain structure, but I’ll quickly (like in 7 seconds) get over it. 🙂
Congratulations! I hope to follow this year!
Come with! We’ll have more time to explore scent, post on these boards, and fill our lives with gorgeous fragrance.
Congratulations!
Congratulations!
Nice, good for you!
I couldn’t find my sample of Camel yesterday, I must have finished it and not remembered. I wore Chinatown instead, nothing in common except they both start with C.
This Covid thing is still with me. I didn’t get a bad dose, but I can’t shake off the tiredness. I’m keen to get back into the office to see people, but just the thought of walking to work makes me want to lie down for a rest.
Meanwhile, I’ll perfume my morning with Amouage Ubar.
How long have you been sick? I’m on day 5 and feeling tired too.
I’m on day 12 🙁
I don’t feel sick, I only had a few days of that, but I have no energy.
I still have a cough and sore throat. Hoping we both feel better very soon!
hope you turn the corner and feel better quickly. 🙂
My daughter looks worn and out tired today. She’s on day 13 and decided to go back to work. Staying home so many days is tiring in itself, even for an introvert like her.
House twin; I’m in Myths. Sorry to hear about the COVID – hope you are able to just rest, relax, and heal!
Sorry that covid is still hanging on. I hope you are feeling more energetic soon.
My good friend was positive for 2 weeks, exactly. She felt OK, physically for the most part. Her husband has a bad cough (among other things) still, but somehow has been testing negative for awhile. It seems to affect everyone a bit differently.
I hope you can rest as much as you need, well-perfumed and comfy. 🙂
Take it easy, Gaynor, and don’t be in a rush… I think my sister maybe tried to get back to normal too quickly.
sotd = Pomelo Paradis
From a sample, one of many delectable smells from Atelier. I have several decants from the house, too, but never bought a full bottle.
I almost bought Bois Blonds. But the company switched something in the base, and it turned dill pickle on me.
Perfume inspiration today is from my neighbor. She gave me pomelos from their tree. So sweet, like a valencia orange, but with a bitter twist, like a grapefruit. LOVETHEM!YUM!YUM!YUM!
Happy Birthday, Sir Patrick. He seems such a gentleman through and through. His instagram is delightful. 🙂
Having grown up in Wash State I always think being able to pick citrus – from a tree! in your yard! is so exotic.
I grew up with a tangerine tree in my backyard that produced fruit for decades. Even so, it always felt like a special treat to pick a ripe one to eat while standing under the branches. 🙂
Picking ANY kind of fruit from a tree is exotic to me. The only thing that ever grew in the yards of houses where I have lived were crab apples, and I learned early on that those are definitely NOT edible! 😛
😀
ha! not good to eat for sure.
While living in the NE US I was given about 5 pounds of crabapples by a friend. I made so much jelly, and it was delicious. 🙂
CP points in my sample of LL Jasmin 17, the only jasmine I really like (so far)! t
I’m thinking about others’ posts about waking up early — I need more sleep, but I love to be up in the cool morning to watch the sky get lighter and the world wake up. (That’s a little too early right now as the sun rises early in the PNW summer!)
Good pick! And if you like that one I am sure there is another jasmine for you somewhere 🙂
Today I’m wearing a pass-along from a perfume friend, Kajal Lamar. My friend didn’t get along with the pineapple note. I’m doing fine with the pineapple but the rose in it is the kind I dislike. I’ll see how this plays out but it might be going in the swap box.
I love pineapple but pineapple + rose doesn’t sound appealing to me either.
Wore Goutal Mandragore. One of those “like but not love” perfumes, but not so long lasting that I can’t wear somethig else later in the day – going to root through and pick something else for the evening. Just spent all of my money on Prime day for items for my son who goes off to college in a few weeks…
Good luck to your son!
I like Mandragore, but it doesn’t last on my perfume-glue skin. That makes it perfect for hot, humid summer days.
SOTD = Chanel Bois Noir
From a split/decant. I wouldn’t mind owning a FB – woody lavender vanilla. IG picture in stories.
I woke up late today too which means office days tomorrow and Friday although I have a 7:30AM meeting on Friday so I may bow out of going in … we’ll see. I found out today that at least one group is doing “Summer Return to the Office” as in 2 days in office and 3 days Working from Home! How did they manage that? 🤔
I take it that the group doing the Summer RTO” is not yours?
Lots of people here at NST seemed to have scrambled sleep patterns yesterday & today.
Nope. We get to spread out 16 hours over the course of the summer but one can take anywhere from 1 to 4 hours each time.
ooooh, sounds nice! Is it sweet-edible lavender or herbaceous-aromatic lavender?
Herbaceous aromatic!
Madtowngirl was right; the sun did return to my area today. But I did not get the bluebird skies that she has enjoyed. There were a few little happy white clouds dotting the skies today. And a big wallop of humidity! The trip out to the mailbox was kinda yucky, tbh.
Had a less than optimal night of sleep last night. I woke up at 3:30-ish and did not get back to sleep until sometime after 6:15. Frustrating. I wonder what is in the air?
SOTD = layering a dab Dame Narcissus perfume oil and one spray of Wrappings. They played very nicely together!
Hey, we posted at the exact same time! Nice layering experiment!
From a newsletter, I read that you may be okay if you wake up earlier and then go back to sleep again for a total sleep time that works for you.
I didn’t want to get out of bed and turn on any electronics, b/c that would definitely ruin any chance of falling back asleep quickly. I was *so* irritated!
Wonder if that Super Moon is affecting us??
Heh, anything is possible! 🌜
Narcissus + Wrappings sounds phenomenal!
So sorry about the sleep deprivation. Waking in the wee hours and not being able to fall asleep again quickly is one of my least favorite things.
That perfume oil made me notice the floral notes that are in Wrappings. Usually the green and herbaceous notes take center stage and stay there.
Sleep-deprived twins! I hope there’s some better sleep ahead tonight!
It was really weird. Suddenly I was wide awake and restless in the middle of the night. Not a hot flash, either.
Here’s hoping we all get some good Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz’s!
Robin, I thought today’s picture was almost like my front yard! I am looking forward to seeing the beautiful moon, but I’d be happy not to see buck deer for a long, long time. One of our neighborhood does had twins last year, and I suspect they are the two spike bucks who are following her and her new twin fawns around. The five of them stop by almost every day; yes, the frisky fawns are so cute; but my poor mowed-down hostas were not. Not for the CP, but SotD Amouage Myths. Boy-o-boy do I love this one. I was surprised to find that I did have more than one sample that might be worthy of the CP. Probably going with Zoologist Civet tomorrow…
I went outside earlier tonight to look for the Buck Supermoon but had no luck. I think the moon wasn’t high enough in the sky for viewing.
Sorry! I don’t like to see deer in my yard anymore either.
Not CP compliant, as I’m wearing Rose Kabuki from a decant. I like it very much but I won’t be buying a full bottle. I have some candidates in mind for Friday, though, and might break one out for tomorrow!
It’s been too hot to wear fragrance during the days this week so it’s just been sunscreen for me. Last night I put on several sprays of Chanel No.19 Poudre; might have to try it again tonight.
We got the replacement recycling bin delivered today (happened in tandem with our regular pickup day). I’m quite relieved about that!
In gardening woes, we discovered that my front bed zinnias were in fact, green amaranth. I think the seeds somehow were mixed up (very badly). Ended up pulling it all out because I think it could become invasive if left in. Plus I didn’t see zinnia flowers forming yet, and they definitely should have been. We discovered the plant identity through a plant identifier app.
And then the “new” gardeners took out my snapdragons and foxglove flowers (not that they flowered yet). They probably mistook them for weeds? Although, maybe they were since they were also started from seeds. Just my luck this week!
Aw, that’s a shame about your poor snapdragon and foxglove plants! 😢
