Wednesday scent of the day 6/22

Posted by Robin on 22 June 2022 151 Comments

Happy Hump Day! It's also World Rainforest Day, Windrush Day and Onion Ring Day. Happy 90th to Prunella Scales! (More birthdays: Katherine Dunham, Bill Blass, Kris Kristofferson, Ed Bradley, Octavia E. Butler, Todd Rundgren, Meryl Streep, Freddie Prinze.) What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in L'Eau de L'Artisan.

Reminder: on 6/24 we'll celebrate Midsummer 2022. (The solstice is on the 21st, but traditional Midsummer, in some countries, anyway, will be celebrated on the 24th.) Wear what you'd wear to dance around a Maypole or light a bonfire on the beach, or whatever you think fits.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

It’s Guerlain’s Neroli Outrenoir, for me, for the win. I really love this fragrance but I think they lost me at the last bottle increase plus price increase.

I finally organized my collection, in a couple of big baskets, and I like how it looks. I might decide to get rid of some bottles during the next swap/freebie events here – hopefully there are some treasures for a few people.

You smell marvellous, Robin, and I hope everyone has a good day.

I love that one too, but I’m with you on the prices. I have a manufacturers sample that will have to do.

Another beautiful day here, and the temps are much more reasonable so I may be able to get out for my walk at lunch.🌞😎
    I’m in LL Bergamote 22.
Talked to my cousin yesterday and we are in the initial stages of planning a ladies getaway. We both have what might be considered milestone birthdays next year and I think a trip is in order. We are thinking Vegas, San Diego, SantaFe,….? Any place good you’d recommend for a 3 day escape?

Probably depends on time of year. If you go to San Diego in August, co spider heading up to Del Mar racetrack. It’s one of the great tracks if you like racing.

I got married up in Sonoma County, which is an easy drive from SF. Lots of wineries, restaurants, spas around Healdsburg.

We are thinking some time between January (my bday) and May (her bday). Ideally going somewhere warm for a brief escape from the Midwest winter.

Compared to Midwest, Sonoma would be warm. It could be in 50s or could be in 80s (quite possibly both in that 3 day span). Main risk is rain. What I like is the variation…vineyards, goats and sheep grazing, redwoods, rivers and the ocean. And the food! (Can you tell it’s my favorite CA county? 🤣)

Depends on the kind of getaway you are seeking–Vegas for food, shows and shopping/San Diego for natural beauty and an amazing zoo/or Santa Fe for landscape, history and spas. I personally loved Sedona–a place like no other, and you can fly into Phoenix and enjoy that city as well. Wherever you go, have fun!!

I’m going to throw a curveball and suggest Pittsburgh. The Nationality Rooms at Univ of Pittsburgh and the Andy Warhol museum for culture, the Aviary and the Phipps Conservatory for idolized nature/victorian glass house vibes, the Incline for a touristy-but-fun view of the city, and Pirates Stadium for the pretty views of the river and (if the team is hitting well) fireworks. Or skip the game and just walk along rivers and crisscross over the bridges to get a view of any fireworks.

Mr. Vee and I spent a long weekend there a few years ago with the goal of visiting a few breweries but not expecting much from the city, and I came away enamored with it.

Lots of good suggestions. I would agree that it depends on what you are looking to do. If you want to get away from the Midwest cold weather and shop some too then I would probably pick San Diego. I have been to Santa Fe and Las Vegas, and they are great cities too, but San Diego is one of my favorites.

Yesterday was perfect midsummer weather here; sunny, breezy, and dry. Today is overcast and more humid, so I’m back to wearing Pd’E Mal Aimé. Maybe this is suitable for the CP? This gives a wonderful impression of standing in an open clearing of weeds and wildflowers, with a hot sun beating down.
Also, I’m currently reading a novel set in Corsica, so it fits that way! ☀️

Happy birthday to Kris – one of my favourite artists of all time – so glad to have been able to see him on his retirement tour (even though it hadn’t been publicised as such) here where I live (in Aberdeen, Scotland) – the audience was so appreciative, perhaps we all knew that was it. Bless Prunella Scales, too – her canal boat trip TV programmes with her husband were just lovely to watch.

Completely agree re The Highwaymen – when they toured in the UK I decided it was worth the trip from Aberdeen to London to see them at Wembley Arena (as was), stayed in a not great B&B in the area & rang my husband after the gig to tell him it was superb, at which time he told me his then employer was co-sponsoring The Highwaymen’s just announced date in Aberdeen – so I saw them twice in four days! The Aberdeen concert was filmed as part of a BBC series of programmes about withdrawal of US troops from various bases in Scotland, which we still have on VHS (must get it converted) – I had bought a bright red leather jacket during my time in London & of course wore it to the Aberdeen gig – Kris announced they were going to play a Guy Clark song (I’m a huge fan) & if you watch the tape closely you see this figure clad in red jumping up at this juncture & applauding madly – while my husband pretends he’s not actually with the mad woman sitting next to him – happy days!

Love so many of his songs! Sammi Smith made it a hit, but Joan Baez’s version of “Help Me Make It Through the Night” instantly brings me back to lying on our shag rug in the living room playing cards while my dad’s queued records slipped down the spindle on our Zenith HiFi FM radio and turn-table.

In Gallivant’s Tel Aviv, which is the scent of Molokai for me. It was the only fb I brought on our trip to Hawaii last summer. Makes me think of sunsets on the lanai drinking homemade piña coladas.

I rummaged through my “summer scents” box. (It is really time for me to switch out my ambers and orientals for my florals and citrus colognes!) Got up to 100 yesterday even on our leafy, dingley dell. We had dinner on the deck late (heat broke around 8 pm), and so instead of watching the birds and squirrels, we watched our cat pouncing around with two baby skunks–the great outdoors in cities on the border of woods. Once we went inside, all three of them came up to the house to horse around the deck. I posted a pic on insta of the skunks :-)

Really? They are very cute when they are kits. Our kitties love them. The raccoons are mean, but the skunks and cats seem to get along fine—so far. Once we had guests over from NYC eating out in the back yard when our then big grey cat Hubble walked across the deck in front of us all, tail held high, followed closely by two skunks, tails also held high, walking in a straight line, right past us. I think our guests stopped breathing! The young skunks have terrible eyesight, and the babies trip over everything trying to keep up with their mum. It is pretty fun to watch.

I call a friend The Skunk Whisperer. He hand feeds them and they go out on his deck.
          I’ve never been that lucky.
Gotten sprayed, kitties, pup and they have wreaked nightmares on us. (Pun intended) My fault with the bird feeders, but indoor cats need entertainment, too.

I am marking the longer days with the summery l’occitane cerisier etoile, a cherry soap perfume which is hard to smell through my woollen base layer, thick jumper, down vest, fingerless glove combo … I’ve been outside and it’s cold and starry. Later I’m meeting my pal in the botanic gardens. I don’t know why we are still meeting outside. The park benches are permanently damp, the air is bracing, the herb beds where we chat have been pruned and resemble stumps…but it’s what we do. I will take a thermos of strong black coffee and we’ll grumble and laugh about life and then she’ll walk back to her office and I’ll take the path through the gum trees up the hill, via the frozen duck pond. The boronia will flower soon, I think.

Kai Rose body lotion – which is very fragrant adn so pretty – with Tam Dao. I will repeat this combo, since sometimes I get more rose, sometimes I get more woods, sometimes it is a blend. So nice.

    Happy Hump Day!

Just popping back in to see this pretty late. The Kai Rose is a sort of freshly opened rose, something you might smell in a neighbor’s yard. or in the refrigerated flowers at the grocery store. It is super pretty and very rosy. Just roses. Very pretty.

23C sunny currently, white clouds this morning.
On an impulse I sprayed Chantal Thomas’s deep – referred to as black not to confuse with edt pink – and it kept me entertained all day, admitting it’s just a fruity floral but the berries, mostly cherry and a great raspberry are so well done with only just a hint of tomato 🍅 keeping it from being too pedestrian, it’s not quite vintage status but from a time when gourmand notes were mixed more ‘interestingly’.

Tonight I switched to Rouge Nocturne, just a whisper of patchouli rose now as I immediately applied thick cream as I felt my skin was dehydrated.

Smoothie is 🍓 banana with yogurt again and dinner will be fresh spinach.

I’ve chosen another warm weather favourite, Theorema. I almost didn’t buy a bottle when it was available at Beauty Encounter a few years ago, but I am so glad I did. I went through two bottles (50ml and 100ml) in my pre-perfumista days, when finishing a bottle was actually possible

I have a shipping update on my last outstanding Smell Bent order! It has shipped today, apparently on a slow truck from Los Angeles. Expected delivery in 5 days.

SOTD = St. Tropez Dispenser Gold EdT. My travel spray/sample is about half gone now.

Oversprayed with Both Sides of Clouds for the glamorous trip to drop off the recycling bottles and a defunct water cooler; the heating element stopped working on it.

We also got rid of 4 old cable boxes no longer being serviced by the cable company and a bunch of rechargeable things that wouldn’t recharge anymore.

Looks like Summer has finally arrived!

I’m in a sample of Honore Des Pres Nu Green because my AC decided to stop working and I wanted to at least smell minty cool, since I knew I wouldn’t feel minty cool today. This leans more herbal than mint, but it got the job done. Hopefully my HVAC person can do the same when they come tomorrow.

Tea is Fortnum’s Christmas Tea because I knew it was going to be a race against the clock day at work and sipping on Christmas Tea is like a little oasis in the middle of chaos.

I started out the day in Tam Dao, but the weather went from scorcher to still hot but overcast and monsoon-like, which is most unusual for around here. So I just spritzed on some Alaia. Someone mentioned a few weeks ago that it works nicely in the heat and humidity. Please identify yourself, because you are correct! 😀

Yay, thanks for suggesting this in the heat. I honestly was a bit scared since it’s already pretty strong and sharp on me in the cool weather. But it gets more rounded and lovely in the heat, and I’m smelling the peony which I have never detected before!

    SOTA = Pomare’s Angel’s Share

Both nice but don’t ask me what they smell like as I’ve had an intense day – Zoom hell in the morning and heads down work in the afternoon through early evening. Rinse and repeat tomorrow. A pretty good day but my head hurts figuratively.

    Later than hajusuuri! Lol
I had a very busy day out and about with my daughter.
Shout out to my local Lush store. When the girls there heard it was my daughter’s birthday they put together a gratis package for her. Made up of shower gel, a soap, a body cream and a full size twilight shower jelly! I was just stunned!
( we are frequent visitors there and they all know her)
Sotd was Dior Addict and my daughter wore Chance eau Vive.
