Wednesday scent of the day 6/8

Posted by Robin on 8 June 2022 110 Comments

It’s Hump Day, Frank Lloyd Wright’s birthday and World Oceans Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

Me: still accruing points, in Arielle Shoshanna Sunday.

Reminder: on 6/10, for National Iced Tea Day, wear a fragrance with a tea note (a repeat of the Tea Time Friday in 2015, by request from AnnE).

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Carthusia Mediterraneo today. I don’t often love tea in my fragrances (although I like to drink it) but I love it here for a warm weather fragrance. It should hit 70 today. I know many of you have had some very warm weather but we haven’t!

If anyone ever had the nerve to ask why I have so many scents, I’d point out that some days you’re in the mood for something warm and comforting, some days you need something bright-green and effervescent, and some days, like today, you cannot do without the glorious weirdness of SL Chypre Rouge, which is not a chypre, but which is very, very rouge — bright-red cherry cough syrup, deep red wine gums, and dark red-amber tree sap, the first Lutens I ever bought and, I sometimes think, my favourite.

I’m wearing more perfume oils right now, since my skin is so dry. I don’t know if they help, but I assume that edts and edps will dry my skin out more, so perfume oils. Super high heat indices this week, up to 107. I’m wearing Alkemia Viridis Arcanum.

Finally a break from rain. Just cloudy. I can do cloudy. Tomorrow is rain again, ugh. I always think about the birds, all cold and wet, shivering on the branches… poor things. 🥺

You just made me think of one of my favorite books as a child, Where does the butterfly go when it rains? I have no idea why, but I just loved that book.

I just googled that book, as well as the title question. Interesting fact according to NYTimes: Butterflies seek the same kinds of shelter in the rain that they would seek at night, when they are also vulnerable. They quickly hide in umbrella-like foliage, in tree hollows, under rocky outcroppings or even in crevices in rocks.

I’m in Prada un chant d’ amour. I do love this one but it takes a heavy hand. I think I’m in 8 sprays.😉
I have a package from beautypie being delivered today. Has anyone tried their skin products? I know Ede has mentioned their perfumes. My favorite skincare guru says good things so I thought I’d give them a try. I ordered several things so hopefully it agrees with my skin!

Napa isn’t the best part of CA that is for sure wasn’t a fan myself. I like it all along pretty much the entire Hwy 1 area though lol. Nor Cal is beautiful with the redwoods..and Socal great with the beaches. Then Big Sur ..which is pretty majestic. Napa definitely would not be top on my list as far as living in. OR is nice..but depending on the area..it rains too much for me..lol but there is a dry, ugly part of OR..ever hear of Lakeview? Lol. They have this silly cowboy mascot throughout the town haha.

John Wesley Powell stated in 1893 the US was “piling up a heritage of conflict and litigation over water rights, for there is not sufficient water to supply these lands.“ He was a one armed dynamo and very prescient given that the west was minimally understood by white men at the time.

I was in fig mood this morning so gravitated to Jardin en Méditerranée, very spot hitting with its minty vibe (although not listed) and a quick spray on my hand of Jo loves Red Truffle 21, more gourmand and sweet but tonight I am in LPRN Couture which as always been my favorite iteration, differs from the original, elegant, few talked about it, with a really good raspberry note instead of cherry 🍒 which I don’t like much in perfume.

I watched the western Johnny Guitar last night. Such a strange movie with Joan Crawford and Mercedes McCambridge setting the bar on the bechdel test. Certainly not a floral perfume in sight. Off to hospital today for more X-rays , appointments etc. The hospital has been a bit touch and go recently: my last appointments were cancelled as the doctors had Covid. Nursing staff is down 20% so all surgeries have been cancelled. Visitors have been banned and screening to get through the door for outpatients. But yesterday I noticed tourists in town. Funny how easily they stand out from locals. And camper vans are back. Will wear Kyoto later.

Grrrr… I wrote out something long in response, and pfft! Lost it (my fault Robin, not to worry!)

      In summary:

      1. Same issue at our local children’s hospital. Had to reschedule my son’s MRI—volunteered to reschedule it for two months later as his issue is not an urgent one, and the techs are weeks behind due to folks being out w COVID.

      2. Love that you mentioned the Bechdel test. Big part of our family convos after movies. My boys think it is fun to consider it. Animated discussion w my husband recently about whether the newish B’way show SIX is a roaring pass or a huge fail of the test.

      3. Kyoto is the perfect choice for banishing the sights, sounds, and scents of a trip to the hospital. I’d give you a huge hug and say you smelled lovely and meditative.

I’m in Egyptian Goddess which is light, subtle, and inoffensive. I’m having some tests run so I didn’t want to overwhelm anyone. Currently NPO and DYING for some coffee.

We went to Fort Nisqually earlier this week. This was the second time I’ve been, but it was quite slow as far as visitors go. I had a lot of time to talk with the all the folks who dress in period costume and explain the daily functions of the fort, etc. I love that kind of stuff. They had a nice little gift shop there as well. Dog friendly, and T-Rex charmed everyone except the chickens and Mossy, the cat. We had a serious discussion about no teeth on chickens or cats…😬. If you’re ever in the area and especially if you have kids, it’s a great stop.

      Fort Nisqually sounds awesome!

There are similar people at the village of Batsto, in the New Jersey Pine Barrens. The site itself has stopped in time in the early 1800’s. There used to be an iron foundry and glassworks at the site, but those are long gone. The only things remaining from the industry there is a big pile of bog iron and the dam. But the village, general store, and mansion of the founder are still around, as is the smithy.

There’s also a modern visitor’s center in the area, with A/C and indoor plumbing. Important to have those sometimes.

One of the best perfume bottles! I rather liked the perfume, too. But I have to rehome a few more things before I can add something to the Bottle Bonanza.

More like I am running out of space for more perfume bottles! And Mr. Jalapeno does not need to know that!

The forecast this morning is for heavy rain and thunder. It was just getting light, and now it is getting darker again as a big black cloud rolls in. It could be a wet walk to work, but the warming chai note of Omnia might help.

Hello. I am proud of myself lol a 188 dollar grocery bill was 117 after coupons yay. I have never saved that much with coupons lol. Thank you Kroger(not affiliated) lol they just have good deals. During this inflation crud..comes in handy.

Wearing an unnamed, spicy woody scent. Not bad for the time being.

Song of the day: In and Out of Love 🎶. Video has a couple of funny parts..the priest or was it a rabbi? Walking by the band with the vinyl record and when David, keyboardist drops all his food to the ground to light a woman’s cigarette at the end of the video.. lolol.

Top Gun 2 is a must see btw..such a good, fun movie the whole family can watch.:). Tom Cruise does not even look close to 60 at all.

That was a cameo appearance by Father Guido Sarducci in “In and Out of Love”! That’s the only Bon Jovi video I see on a regular basis that I like.

Hello everyone! Each time today I thought I had enough time to check in properly here something else had to be done…so only catching up on the comments now. Sending good wishes to you all. Today I rummaged around for a sample of Chanel Paris Venise which I got when it launched, and it is as light and pretty as the bottle I bought this past weekend. Why on earth did I think Venise was the thickest or heaviest in this range? Honestly, the tricks the mind can play 🤣

Warm and humid today. I found myself wondering earlier this afternoon if it is too late to put some herb pots in the patio container garden. The dirt in some of those pots is as hard as a rock, so that’s the first thing I need to remedy before planting anything.

    SOTD = Adieu Sagesse again.

Very humid and warm here today too. We reached 82, but it was feeling on 88. Still muggy and uncomfortable! It is supposed to rain after midnight. Fingers crossed it is more pleasant tomorrow.

Got plans for indoor tasks tomorrow, just in case the weather is yucky. And it’s something that needs doing anyway.

I only went out a few steps to pick up my mail and a few more steps to bin the trash.

I did a bit of puttering on the patio for the container garden and then decided that enough was enough. I can do more of that over the weekend when the humidity backs off.

Late check in today as I had errands to take care of. Participating in the cp, wearing Masque Milano Russian Tea. Very pretty, but it doesn’t last nearly long enough on me. Ah well, another sample plinked and money saved! 😊

Oh, very glad to hear you enjoyed your sample but a pity about the lack of lasting power. My recent bottle lasts quite well (and you’ve reminded me I bought it so there we are for Friday, thank you).

Most welcome! I don’t know how old the sample is, so age could be part of the problem.
