Tuesday scent of the day 6/7

Posted by Robin on 7 June 2022 153 Comments

It's Tuesday and National Chocolate Ice Cream Day (I celebrated last night). Birthdays: Beau Brummell, Elizabeth Bowen, Gwendolyn Brooks, Dean Martin, Tom Jones, Liam Neeson, Louise Erdrich, Prince. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm taking more community project points with Imaginary Authors O, Unknown!, and to match my fragrance I'm drinking a cup of smoky Earl Grey with a dash of lavender. (Recipe: Numi Aged Earl Grey + pinch of Harney French Super Blue Lavender + pinch of Upton Lapsang Souchong Imperial)

Reminder: on 6/10, for National Iced Tea Day, wear a fragrance with a tea note (a repeat of the Tea Time Friday in 2015, by request from AnnE).

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Jonathan Hansen x Marie Daâge Ciels Bleus Teapot("Revered porcelain painter Marie Daâge and her select team of artisans harness their exceptional skills and techniques to bring Jonathan Hansen’s Ciels Bleus vision to life") is $763 at Harrods; the breakfast cup is $632.

Well I thought the china I dream of was pricey, but the one in the picture is even more so. I am wearing FM Dans tes Bras today. It is a go to for when I want to feel a bit more together than I really am. Parent conferences today.

It’s true, even the teacup is way out of my reach!

Good luck with the parent conferences.

I haven’t made my tea yet.
I really wanted to wear Shalimar today but the original is too much for me , so I found a decant of the “light” version that a generous NSTer.
It wears like an AA. Also in Guerlain skincare. Having a Guerlain day. Maybe I will do vanilla tea and make it a Shalimar day all around

Thank you. I shouldn’t say that Shalimar isn’t too much for me, but today, I want a sheer scent. Normally I can handle the queen! I am just feeling differently

When I got home yesterday, I combined Clair de Musc with Narciso Rodriguez white cube and it smelled so good that I’m tempted to repeat it. But there’s so much great perfume in my cabinet, so I’m changing to Yesterday Haze. House twins, Robin!

Wearing Officine del Profumo Lei (lightly dabbed).

We are fine. Well, still no news on a potential work project, which is not good news, but let’s focus on something positive.

We went to a garden show in Malmo public garden – lots of intresting instalaltions. It was nice, but there were a lot of people.

I have also completed my first coding course (Basics) and started the next one. If you are curious, have a look at my first project – https://www.shecodes.io/workshops/shecodes-basics-2ad76f6c-e6f8-48c6-9ce6-2bc892fc5e05/projects/912497
It is a simple landing page inspired by my recent visits to the gardens of Copenhagen and Malmo. If you click on the button on the page, you will be asked for an email addres, but do not worry. The address is not saved anywhere, and you do not have to give it.

Sigh, going back to work today. Spent time yesterday on the phone straightening out a problem with a new credit card arriving. It just never came in spite of 2 phone calls over a week. Getting a card expedited to me. I said that there should have been no reason to why it hasn’t arrived. Wearing no 5 edt today. Tempted to get a travel spray of no 5 edt.

Well, I’m inching my way toward tea. Wearing SMN Eva, which has bergamot and lemon — two out of three ingredients for a nice cup of Earl Grey. The black pepper is, however, not on point at all.

Today I’m luxuriating in Cartier La Baiser du Dragon, another one of those wildly misnamed scents (and mispackaged, too, with that faux Chinoiserie): there’s nothing fiery or dragonish about it at all, because it’s warm sweet amaretto and patchouli with gardenia and a hint of bitter almond.

Nahema in the new version for a cloudy, post-thunderstorm day. More rain may be on the way. I’ve never tried the vintage, but I also have a 2017 bee bottle and they seem very similar. I think the 2021 version falls short of being a love because there is too much fruit and not enough sandalwood; at least that’s my impression today – that the bee bottle may have more woodiness.

It looks like we are pre-thunderstorm at the moment.

NOTHING with sandalwood is the same these days, IMHO. It almost seems like a bonus to have never smelled old-school sandalwood so you don’t know what you’re missing.

Cap Neroli for the win today. I do enjoy this one so much. It’s hitting the spot today.

My husband’s grandma passed so we were in WV for a while to help his mom with arrangements and the house and other things. My husband gave me her No. 5 perfume. She had some other stuff, mainly Avon, that I wasn’t too interested in, but the No. 5 edt was maybe 3/4 full so I have that now. I have the No. 5 lotion from my aunt that passed, and now the No. 5 edt from his grandma. I will always think of them when I pair them together.

    Wearing Berdoues Assam of India.

Another beautiful warm, breezy, sunny, spring day! I am leaving early from work today to meet my nephew and his girlfriend for early dinner tonight. Her birthday was on Sunday, but I didn’t attend her family dinner celebration. These days, I prefer a more relaxing environment with less people around. They both loved the idea of spending a nice and cheerful time together today. Looking forward to have chocolate ice cream for dessert! 😉

    Happy Tuesday! 🍨

Commando on the beach this morning. Alas, the calmer waters we had hoped for have not materialized, but it’s pleasant to sit and chat and catch up on NST while we watch the beach patrol do some heavy-surf rescue drills. (They are definitely drills.) I am drinking an oat-milk latte — if I have tea today, it will be Barry’s plain, from a teabag, this afternoon.

Lovely tea set, but $632 for a cup? Oh my. I’d be afraid to use it.

Tea scents… well, they’re in the basement. I plan to swap winter for summer scents today, really, I know I said that last weekend, but this time, I mean it, for real, yes really, today’s the day, this is it! Yeah.

What I’ve actually been doing in the basement is continuing the great house clean-out, which means my actual SOTD recently has been sweat, dust, and mouse unmentionables, bleah.

Iris Ganache for dropping off my mail in ballot. Definitely classic Guerlain vibes. Chocolate Ice Cream Day? Hagen I am thinking of you:). A quick note and homage to Alec John Such, bassist of Bon Jovi. A part of my childhood felt snatched away when I heard he passed. I was probably the biggest Bon Jovi fan in my little town back in the day. My best buddy and I had a contest who could cover a wall first with Bon Jovi posters…guess who won? LOL. Such a fun band..good times. And guilty pleasure..I still listen to their old albums every once and a while lol..specifically their 1st and 2nd albums. They just rock 🇺🇸.

I guess Alec was responsible for Jon and Richie meeting and essentially forming the band. So without Alec..no Bon Jovi. And a world without Bon Jovi would deprived lol.

But I think I saw Jon and wife Dorthea up at Lake Tahoe a year or two later sunbathing and havin a good time as I was about to go on a Tahoe cruise..I didn’t go up to them as I didn’t wanna bother them lol. But me and my grade school friend were happy campers lol. Come to think of it..maybe it was part of their honeymoon? They got married in Vegas. Let me just interrupt your honeymoon for you to sign my Tiger Beat Magazine LOL.

Minimal tea scents here. I had a travel size from SmellBent but must have decluttered it. I do have one other, but I’m saving it for Friday. I need to work on CP compliance 😬

Picked up “Embrace Fearlessly the Burning World” by one of my favorite authors, Barry Lopez. I’ve been reading him for years, first book was a bible of a tome called “Arctic Dreams” way back when I was young and fresh and wanted so badly to go to either pole. I can only read short bits at a time because it’s DEEEEEP, not a difficult read, but dense with ideas and beautiful language. This is a collection of essays, some previously published and some new, written before his death in 2020. Here’s a link to a NYT review for those interested:

    https://www.nytimes.com/2022/05/31/books/review/barry-lopez-embrace-fearlessly-burning-world.html

SOTD is once again Shalimar MVP because I can’t get enough of this fluffy whipped and powdered confection. It’s not foody really. I use the adjectives more to describe the texture of the scent. I’d wear this more frequently if I had a BUB.

Twins with Robin today, and realizing I’m about to thunk the small bottle of O Unknown that I had. I hadn’t realized I’d used so much; I don’t wear it that often.

We’re having our one day of sun for the week, so I’m trying to get outside as much as I can today. (Yesterday was supposed to be sunny, but then wasn’t until 5 p.m.) Trying NOT to think about the fact that the plumber who was in yesterday managed to leak water down the inside of the drywall and our ceiling is now stained on two floors. They still haven’t told us what they’re going to do to fix it. (Sigh.) On the bright side, they did get the new kitchen faucet in and so I’m calling my reno officially done, after 13 months.

The nights are really getting long now, sunrise is just before 8am. Slept till four and then went and looked at the stars but it’s overcast so no action there. Heard an owl though, over in the forest. Toast and Vegemite, strong coffee and a dash of Datura Noir, a perfume fit for moths ( apparently…datura, that is) and possibly dandies . It was interesting to read about Beau Brummell, sounds quite a life.

There is an argument that he ruined men’s clothing as a form of personal expression in the way women still (sometimes) wear clothing, by doing away with the French-influenced “fripperies” and popularizing the dark suit and white shirts that men still pretty much wear today.

I wore Floris Zinnia from my small vintage bottle, lovely floral and a very Good drydown of sandalwood.

Tonight it’s Hermes Voyage in parfum concentration because DolceVita wore the edt (which I also have) yesterday. It’s my favorite cardamom scent and I always think it’s overshadowed by the more popular Terre.

SotD has been JM Grapefruit and Assam from one of their cute 1oz bottles. It got quite warm this afternoon, and I had a lovely walk with an old friend I haven’t seen in too long.

Robin, that tea blend you created sounds delicious! Mine this morning was, again, my Empress dupe. I’m declaring that experiment a success.

Okay. I bit. Still not entirely sure what is a pooshy, but apparently Kourtney Kardashian’s smells like “black gardenia . . . with top notes of geranium, green pepper and Timur berry; heart notes of tiare, ylang-ylang absolute and honeysuckle and base notes hold vetiver and oakmoss.” So, when you go looking for YOUR pooshy, now you know.

Gorgeous tea set, Robin. That tea cup better come with the saucer, for that price! Even with 10 saucers, it would still be pricey.

I’m not CP complaint, trying one of the new samples I got, Affinessence’s Santal Basmati. This one is interesting, starts off with steamed rice and I get something coconutty (although coconut is not a note), like a coconut rice dessert. And then I get something fruity, like mango, which is also not listed as a note! I’m relieved it’s not full bottle worthy for me because it’s super expensive, the drydown is meh.

Hello everyone. I wore a lot of Chanel Paris Venise today – it seems much lighter than I thought it was when I tried it first a few years ago (is it my nose, my memory, or just the weather?) but light is what I wanted for today. It had faded so much by this evening that I tested Armani Orangerie Venise and Tom Ford Venetian Bergamot, and now feel like my very scattered day added up to some perfume-name coherency at least, ha!

Pressed repeat with Oolang Infini today as I lucked into a haircut this morning (due to someone’s cancellation). She did a great job, and thankfully it was with the owner of the shop so I was familiar with her. I did go there for my last cut but my stylist then moved on to somewhere else.

Today, she used a plethora of products. I loved the oil in particular that she used so I thought I’d pick that up as well since I was in need of some anyways. I didn’t see the price since she grabbed it for me and just rang it in. Let’s just say that the oil cost as much as my haircut did.

It’s this one. Upon further research I believe that you can also get it on Amazon. Of course I paid salon prices. I have thick, somewhat curly/wavy hair so this calmed down my ‘usual crazy’ look. She also used a straightening balm and another product remove the excess water from it before blow-drying. I can never get my hair the same as the salon. lol.

It took me years to realize (I’m a little slow sometimes:)) that in order to get my hair to look closer to how it looks at the salon, I would have to dry it more thoroughly…and use lots of good smelling products, or course.

Oof. What a day. I started my morning by opening the fridge to find an unopened glass half gallon of chocolate milk had exploded. Got too cold at the back of the fridge and froze. I cleaned up the small pond on the shelf, went to work, and came home and just finished cleaning up the lake of chocolate milk at the bottom of the fridge. I’m kicking myself because this happened one other time with regular milk, you’d think I’d learn. Well, milk has found a permanent home on the shelf inside the fridge door.
Guess I’m not getting my $2 bottle deposit back.😏 On the positive side, I’ve probably got the cleanest fridge on the block.😂

In the meantime, I am still looking into taking a vacation. Where? Not so sure yet. I don’t want to compete with the summer vacationers and “revenge travelers” (heard this term for the first time 3 weeks ago and had read it since in the NYTimes).

Sometimes what looks like “revenge travel” may just be “what we had planned for 2020 and are now being forced to take so we don’t lose the deposit.” Just saying. Apparently (and I still can’t quite believe it will come off) I’m going to Africa with a kid in 3 weeks. When I planned it in late 2019, it was just a normal splurge trip for some major milestones in our lives. Now it is a trip we’re being forced to take or lose our deposits. And I will apparently be camping out overnight downtown to get my kid’s passport renewed, because despite applying via the regular process two months ago, things are so backed up that we won’t get it in time (despite telling them our deadline), so I will have to get a last-minute passport.

In short, I don’t see it as “revenge travel”, though others might.
