Thursday scent of the day 6/2

Posted by Robin on 2 June 2022 139 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday! It's also the 2nd day of LGBTQ Pride Month, and National Rocky Road Day. Birthdays: Martha Washington, Barbara Pym, Charlie Watts, Cornel West. What fragrance are you wearing?

I’m spending the morning with (my old friend) Carthusia Mediterraneo.

Reminder: on 6/3, for World Bicycle Day, wear something sporty (or just outdoorsy, or whatever you think fits).

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Good morning.
Sotd is Hummingbird. My bottle just arrived and I can’t help but overspray.
Trying out Suqqu blush. My gosh is the formula beautiful. It practically blended itself.
    Currently drinking TWG Honey Tea.

I’m in ELdO Éloge du Traitre, which smells so much like Caron Yatagan that I can’t help but think of it as Caron Yet Again. It’s really good, though, a tumult of pine needles, woods, and greenery. If you’re going to steal, steal from the classics.

Yatagan is probably cheaper? Or maybe not.

Turns out they’re exactly the same price, €95, but the Caron bottle is 100 mL and the ELdO is 50 mL, so you’re right, Yatagan is cheaper — by volume, anyway.

Guessing the Yatagan is easier to find at a discount too…

Yoga, then coffee with turmeric milk that I found at the grocery store yesterday. Yum! Then packing for weekend, finishing some work, running errands, and whew, that’s plenty.

I’m in PG Bois Blond. ♥ A great outdoorsy fragrance.

Jersey is my SOTD also for the CP, riding my bike and smelling laundry hanging outside when I was young

    Also chanel makeup 💄

About 100 pages from finishing A Little Life. It’s a hard read but I can’t put it down. 📚 💕

I really like it, I also read To Paradise by the same author.

For A Little Life, I would say proceed with caution- it’s amazing and awful at the same time. I can’t put it down. There are some very tender moments. Not a light read, but I also don’t want the book to end…

I just finished the NYer profile of the author (from a January issue, I am way behind). Pretty sure the profile scared me off of the novel, but maybe I will rethink.

I will look for that article on the NYer

If you google, you can find lots of pictures of her apartment. Purely by coincidence Kevin and I were discussing it earlier this morning (all weird coincidence, I had never heard of her last week). He is anti bookcase, I am pro bookcase, we both like the black floors.

I’m in LL Bergamote 22. The weather is perfect today and I’m in my office with the east facing window, so I’m enjoying a morning of sunshine coming in. Forgot my sunscreen though.😬 I’m gonna make a run to Sephora over lunch to check out supergoop, has anyone tried any of their products?

I use their “City Serum” sunscreen on my face every day — it’s an ideal non-greasy, non-visible, non-pore-cloggy, non-break-outy formula for me. Spendy, but goes a long way since I only use it for my face.

They had a 20% off sale recently and I stocked up. I’ll probably try to hit up those sales every time they roll around 🙂

You smelled great today! I used up my decant last summer and need to get my hands on more for this summer. It’s probably my favorite bergamot. And it sounds like I need to try Supergoop based on all these rave reviews! Good timing cause I need new face sunscreen.

Why do people ask silly questions? Like the guy next to me, who intercepted my foray to the trash to ask “Are you really from Florida?” No. No, I’m not. I just stole that plate because I’m running from the cops. Sheesh!

Anyway, I am sans perfume again today. Slept all day yesterday and through the night. Feel better but I’m looking a bit jaundiced so probably have another stone lodged in my CBD. Ugh. So last minute change of plans.

Thanks for the well wishes yesterday! Do the old Deva proud and wear your perfume with swagger today! 👍🏼

Well, politeness won out. But I will say, it got stranger when he walked back over to my site as I’m in the middle of packing up: filling water, emptying and cleaning toilet, storing chair, table, etc—in other words, obviously busy! I was polite again but got out of there quick! If you’re not a camper, you wouldn’t know, but your site is your “house” and campground etiquette means you don’t go into anyones house without invitation- especially when setting up or tearing down, because you can get distracted, and if you’re towing something, you could miss an important connection and end up in a bad situation.

I don’t think anyone could mistake Moby for a rental, but you could be right. Most rental camper vans have the name on the rental company emblazoned on them, either painted or wrapped.

SOTD = Love, by Kilian, don’t be shy Extreme

I love this one – all unicorn and marshmallow and the rainbow poop!

    https://www.instagram.com/p/CeT22zzu4yf/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

I’ve decanted everything for the Splitmeet and I just have to pick 2 more fragrances from which to make samples and then it will be the great packaging party. I may just be done a week early! Wahoo and we’ll see!

Speaking of not so smart, I saw a “quote” on IG that pretty much said if I take offense to what someone said, it’s my fault. Well guess what? I disagree with this vehemently. “I” am not responsible for your thoughts so if you assume I said something and assumed the context that you did AND ended up saying something nasty to me, it is not my fault and I will call you out. I DMd the person, as he was looking for feedback, and the response I got back was it was hard to follow my train of thought…seriously? I basically just blocked the person as I no longer wish to engage with him, even if it was my usual once every six months for crying out loud. Off my platform…

I smell wonderful today in Passage d’Enfer from a decant I was certain I had already finished but turned out to simply have misplaced!!! What an exciting find. I’m absolutely on a negligible-buy for the rest of my life (I have more perfume than I can ever wear, and just bought a house we’ll be paying off until retirement), but if I ever found a bottle of PdE on dramatic sale, I don’t see how I could stop myself.

In other news, I had a bike accident last Friday and have let fear rule my life for the past week, opting to drive to work instead of biking. Today was my first day back on the bike, and it appears that I hold a bit of post-traumatic stress. Let’s hope my brain manages to correctly process the ongoing risk and I can stop braking every time I have to navigate a tight space.

I ripped my knee open in my accident, so now I’m wearing leggings to work (real pants hurt). This is annoying because people already always ask me if I’m a postdoc (I’m 34, and postdocs are usually ~27); now, in my leggings, they’ll think I’m an intern. How embarrassing. I’m a grownup! With business cards and everything!

Thanks, hajusuuri! Typically I have no problem, since I live in suburbia in an area where lots of people bike 🙂 I just hope I feel comfortable again soon!

Hi, fragrant friends! Venturing a smell today… My green tea sunscreen put me in the mood for Eau Parfumée aux Thé Verte, which, not to fall back on zen-green-tea clichés, really always feels head clearing and balancing and peaceful for me.

    Wearing Chanel Paris-Deauville.

Just back in the office from a site visit. We were doing roof assessment that took exactly 5 hours. I am feeling exhausted, perhaps because I missed my mid-morning coffee. I am getting a very big cup now and a cheese pastry.
It is nice outside, so I may walk home from the subway station, instead of making the connection to the bus, as usuaI. I just hope rain doesn’t arrive, as expected.

    Happy almost Friday! 🌻

Histoire d’Eau today which did its usual plum and leather trick, thus evening it’s TM Miroir des Secrets, basically Angel’s patchouli with aldehyes, it always makes me smile when I spray it.

In other news it was day one of the Jubilee, enjoyed a stroll in the park in Central London, very happy celebratory crowd, came home tired and took a nap.

Birthday Honors to Miss Pym – one of my very favorite writers: y’all have read “A Glass of Blessings,” right? Right?!? SotD Samsara Shine. I am on a Samsara kick lately; I own several variations, but not the vaunted original parfum. I might get around to that one day, but I love all the ones I have so no FOMO. Yay for Friday Eve – Mexican restaurant tonight!

I have read most or all of Pym but for some reason have never gone back and re-read, so it’s been years now. I don’t know why I go back to some books and not others, it’s not always about how much I liked them the first time.

Wearing a few sprays of La Pausa today. We had a couple hours of unexpected, bonus sunshine but it’s now clouded over. It feels like it could rain any moment; La Pausa is creating a wonderful scent bubble.

Posting late today! Making tasty food for dinner kind of took precedence. 😉😋 I also got groceries this afternoon right before the first of 3 rounds of rain came thru. More of the wet stuff is on the way tonight, and my phone is blowing up with all kinds of weather notifications.

Lillyjo, the price of hamburger at my grocery store was $4.89 per pound today. That’s about 25 cents more expensive than what we pay for a Gallon of gas.

SOTD = Alaia EdP again. It *loves* the warm and muggy weather.

I tried Alaia in both cold and warm weather, and found that it was a mere shadow of itself in cold weather. It blooms beautifully for me in summer. YMMV.

I’m wearing Gris Charnel, in anticipation of the Gris Charnel extrait split. It’s been a very busy but productive week for me. My son was away on a school trip, he’s back tonight so my husband and I are squeezing in a date night dinner beforehand.

Going to catch up on posts and think about what to wear tomorrow. I’m definitely leaning towards outdoorsy rather than “sporty”!

I wore vintage Aliage today and will likely wear again tomorrow. Wasn’t it considered a “sport” fragrance? It really was a wonderful scent back in the day…it’s a shadow of its former self.

Day off tomorrow I’m, so we are planning to go see Top Gun on the biggest screen we can find. I imagine it will be as cheesy as the original.

Tuesday and Wednesday until It’s done. Honestly the worst part is what we are doing now, which is finding everything that is missing a ticket and putting a ticket on it. This includes everything that has been torn out of It’s packaging ( so lot’s of socks and underwear) its very time consuming and is on top of doing the “regular” work.
