Tuesday scent of the day 5/10

Posted by Robin on 10 May 2022 144 Comments

It's Tuesday. Happy 72nd birthday to Miuccia Bianchi Prada! What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Prada L’Eau Ambrée. Tea at the moment is Upton Christmas black tea with a splash of milk.

Reminder: on 5/13, we'll celebrate World Cocktail Day...tell us about your favorite cocktail (alcoholic or non-alcoholic), provide a recipe if you like, and wear a perfume that would complement your choice or that picks up one of the notes in your cocktail. It doesn't have to be a boozy fragrance! (This is a repeat from 2018, and we also did a booze cruise in 2017).

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Les Fleurs Du Mal porcelain teapot is $440 at Prada.

We have instant summer this week on the Midwest seasonal roller coaster, so I’m looking at warm weather perfumes. Think I’ll go with Fox in the Flowerbed today.
    That teapot is very cute.

Cool this morning so I don’t feel out of place wearing SL Chypre Rouge, probably the strangest scent I own and one of the most endlessly fascinating.

As a contrast to yesterday’s vanilla bomb, I am wearing the herbal, citrussy goodness of Eau de Sud. Is this discontinued. I didn’t find it at any of my regular decant houses. I ended up ordering a half ounce bottle from ebay.

Yesterday my parents and I went to the Cleveland rainforest. It was only $6 per person and we enjoyed ourselves. Today I am in Beloved and debating if I should grab a back up bottle of Courtesan on fragrancenet.com. I am leaning towards no right now. Maybe later this month or in June. Let’s see what I can finish off first before I get anything.

I’m in California Rêverie today to celebrate warmer weather here. Supposedly thunderstorms are possible, but they didn’t materialize last night so hoping they stay away today also. Heading down to Costco to pick up new glasses.

And…I start a part time job on Thursday. Working in our local grocery market. It’s not big, but it is well stocked and well regarded. A hub for the summer visitors to this side of the northern part of our peninsula. I’ll be in the bakery, which I realized might mean a hair net! Ugh. Hoping to mix it up with front end cashier stints. Best part is it’s a very short walk.

I’ve been up for hours, which is uncharacteristic for me. I couldn’t sleep at all last night so finally gave up at 6:30 and got up and turned on the coffee machine. While it was dripping I fed the cats. Then I turned on the TV and caught the end of Jackson Galaxy and My Cat from Hell. Great show!

I’m trying Arielle Shoshana Friday and it’s my favorite of the trio of her samples I have. I love that fizzy bergamot opening. Perhaps a bit like a G&T. One of my favorite cocktails. Or drinks.

Hi Calypso. I’ve just watched a British thriller and thought it might be up your street. It’s called Vigil and is set aboard a submarine so it’s quite claustrophobic. I was going to paste a review but it gave away too much of the plot so I will say it’s quite good and a bit far fetched.
Also, Annicka set off Glasgow. Also quite good and also silly in places

But both series are short and watchable and set in Scotland with decent plot and actors

The weather has turned gloomy: low misty cloud and rain ‘dregging’ down. Still dark and both dogs ( wet fur and paws smelling of muddy earth) are on the bed, snuggled up as if they own the place. Wearing Lush Shade: a cosy lemon, vanilla, frankincense, sandalwood blend that is quieter than most Lush perfumes. The bottled perfume is much better than the solid version.
‘ Dregging’ was a term my parents always used to describe heavy, saturating rain. I never heard it used by New Zealanders so I’m guessing it must be a North of England/ Lancashire term?

Eau Rose Diptyque Edp from a sample. While I like it some, I think I prefer the lighter, Edt. This darker version I would probably prefer to wear in the cooler months. I like the edp more as it dries down. But not in the mood on a sunny, bright day. Feeling kinda meh today idk why. Overall meh lol.

Trying Maison Rebatchi Feu Patchouli today.

Getting mostly sweet and woody patchouli in the opening. Looking up the full notes now and see it has carnation and clove 😬 eek! …depending on the amount, they are sometimes my nemeses…I often don’t get along w/ too much eugenol but we shall see how it wears.

In Berdoues Scorza di Sicilia. It reminds me of my mom’s favorite cocktail, a gimlet, and also of the mixed crates of Brookdale soda that were staples of family gatherings in my childhood. A variety of sodas for the kids and mixers for the adults cocktails. If you grew up in or around Essex county NJ in the 70s and 80s you might recognize the brand. My favorites were the birch, cream, and orange sodas.

I liked a blue cream soda when I was a kid not sure who made it.

Speaking of cocktails..one of the yummier drinks I have had was at BJ’s Brewhouse. I think it was called Strawberry Splash. (cerevoise, pineapple wedge, amaretto disaronno 1 3/4 oz, grey goose 1 oz, pina colada 2 oz, strawberry puree 2oz). Pretty tasty.

Dad’s or Frostie maybe? I grew up with clear pale yellow or occasionally red colored cream soda.
Drank a lot of Snapple sodas in HS (Brookdale soda went out of business in the late 80s).

Birch beer seems to be an acquired taste. I first tried it as an adult and didn’t care for it in the slightest. Thankfully there are some excellent root beers made in the greater Philadelphia area, so I am quite happy with those.

Hi everyone! I had an early morning doctor’s appointment so didn’t wear any perfume for that, and then I rewarded myself afterwards with visits to Lush and Neiman Marcus. I got the Lush Classics discovery box of five 10ml sprays (I wish we could pick which ones we want in the box, but alas no), since I wasn’t ready to pull the trigger on a large-size-only bottle of The Smell of Weather Turning. I like it but will have to retest to see if I really want it. My arms smell like a “cocktail” of different Lush scents!

At NM I bought a small spray of L’Eau d’Hiver, and the SA gave me tons of free samples! Yay.

It suddenly went HOT here and my AC isn’t working, so I’m hoping my landlady can get that fixed soon. My HVAC system is probably on its last legs. Don’t you love it when repair people say things like, “I haven’t seen one of these in a while!” I’m glad I rent in those instances!

Joining the suddenly hot weather crew – I was slightly wilted after some light gardening earlier! SotD is Radiant Mirage, as I work my way through the new Estee Lauder coffret. Radiant Mirage has a patchouli note I really like. Sensuous Stars has been my favorite so far in a full day test. In other news, I ordered an “active wear” skirt and am finding it nicely cool and opaque as promised, so no slip necessary. It is almost too short, but I noticed it was cut longer on the back panel, which showed design thoughtfulness. The brand is Royal Robbins.

Interesting. I don’t like wearing skirts or dresses, but I find skirts to be the least flattering for me. I was looking at the latest JJill catalog and saw a maxi dress I may get for my niece’s wedding. I plan to pair it with a cardigan in the blue family. My older sister thinks it’s too casual but my younger sister (mother of the bride) said it was fine. It’s not black tie.

In other news, I finally cleaned out my pre-pandemic drawer in the office. Somehow, in a span of 6 months (from October 1, 2019 to March 9, 2020), I managed to accumulate a lot of straws (2 lengths, and I threw out the shorter ones), ~ 5 inch stack of paper napkins (brought home), many knives (threw out), brown sugar (they don’t go bad, do they?), a pack of M&Ms (threw out), a 1/4 eaten bar of fundraiser chocolate bar (threw out) and a packet of wasabi (threw out). I feel lighter!

My phone updated itself and I don’t like it. It gave me a bunch of new apps, which I deleted. Now I can’t get the notification for me to reinstall to go away. ( game and food apps). Plus my weather is different.
I’ve had Rose Jam on most of the day because I had to cover up the awful (to me) JPG La Belle. AMBROXAN BOMB! I almost fainted, I tell ya.
I am now trying out Thymes Tupelo Lemongrass from a lovely swap. I really like this for the humidity we are having. It’s very refreshing.
