It's Monday, Europe Day and John Brown's birthday. PSA: the Haiku Challenge is coming up this weekend! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm trying out Providence Perfume Co Jadeite.
Reminder: on 5/13, we'll celebrate World Cocktail Day...tell us about your favorite cocktail (alcoholic or non-alcoholic), provide a recipe if you like, and wear a perfume that would complement your choice or that picks up one of the notes in your cocktail. It doesn't have to be a boozy fragrance! (This is a repeat from 2018, and we also did a booze cruise in 2017).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I will do a Guerlain week
I went for an Abeille Royale facial for mothers day, and I really enjoyed it. I adore the Guerlain spa. I got some skincare samples and using them for this line. Anyone else familiar?
You smell great!
I don’t like this one for some reason. It gave me a headache
Oh that’s too bad. 🙁 Mabe too much clove?
I got several skincare samples in my Bee Advent box, including a full sized serum. Honestly they’re not for me, can’t really pinpoint why. I was thinking of offering them up during the NST Freebie. Is this allowed or only frags?
I will take them off your hands if you aren’t using them
schallau@aol.com
Send me a note. Are you in the US?
I am in the US, yes.
Happy Monday, everyone!
I love lilacs! Yesterday was Lilac Sunday at the Arboretum, and I went and sniffed my fill! Ah…..
There were so many varieties! I purchased a membership and got a plant to try and keep alive. 😅 There’s a nice spot next to my front porch that gets a lot of sun, so I will try it there.
Joining the CP today in 24 Faubourg, which has an elderflower note. Who knew?
My mocktail is elderflower syrup with lemon seltzer and a piece of lime. So refreshing in the summer!
That sounds delicious!
The syrup comes in big bottles at ikea. 😉
I love lilacs too, someday I will plant one at my San Diego house.
True lilacs are lovely and smell wonderful. We have a bunch of Korean lilacs that one of the previous owners planted that the insects and hummingbirds love, but don’t have a nice or even remotely lilac scent to them… I miss the French lilacs I grew up with.
It’s my birthday and I’m celebrating by wearing the new Chanel Paris -Paris.
Many happy returns of the day.
Happy Birthday! How is Paris Paris?
thank you! I love Paris- Paris maybe best of all the eaux.
It has lasting power which I didn’t expect.
Happy Happy Birthday!
Happy b-day 🎂
Happy Birthday, aspara! 🎉🎂🎁
Happy Birthday! I am wondering how you like Paris too.
Happy Birthday! Echoing the question on how you like the scent.
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Happy fragrant birthday!
Beautiful photo!
I’m in Tauer’s Au Couer du Désert. The sun rose without the company of clouds and rain this morning, and is currently blinding me as it shines off the Hood Canal. Happy Day! 🌄
Oops! Sorry Apsara! Wrong place for 👆🏼that comment but the right place for wishing you the Happiest of Birthdays! 🎂
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday and many happy returns!
Happy birthday, enjoy your new bottle.
Happy birthday apsara! Hope it is a wonderful day.
Happy birthday
Happy birthday to you!!!🎂 Glad you are enjoying the new Paris…I am looking forward to trying it.
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Happy scented birthday apsara! 🎁🎉🎂
Oh a very happy birthday to you apsara and I have a dash of Paris-Paris on in your honour!
Happy Chanel-Scented Birthday apsara! 🎂🥂🌹
Happy birthday, apsara!
Happy birthday!!!
I’m wearing another pick from my bag of manufacturer’s samples. This one is Ligea from Carthusia. Nope, not for me. Another vanilla bomb on my skin.
Oops!
I’m repeating from this weekend in MM Replica coffee break to represent a dalgona coffee cocktail.
Perfect, points for you!
Lol, oddly enough I had a dream where I was tasting apparently the best wine in the world. It was a very, dark blue color, think of the Midnight Poison bottle color. Lol. It had notes of dark chocolate I guess. I was having a wine tasting party and three of the top world wines were finalists..the dark blue one won. Sounds like I am quite the diva in my dreams lol haha. In real life, I have a half-flat Barqs Root Beer 2 liter in my kitchen. So fancy:). Not sure if I have a favorite cocktail. I was thinking to try the absinthe experience at a bar here but I think it shut down. I love licorice and like drinks that have fire involved cause I like the visuals. Lol. When I turned of drinking age, I would order Flaming Dr. Peppers just to watch them set drinks on fire. I didn’t particularly dig the taste if I remember..so my friends would drink them lol.
Commando but feeling like some fruit.
Adding..my favorite non alc drink is the classic, Shirley Temple. 🍒. The last one I had used real, dark sweet cherries not the maraschino. Much better imo. Not a huge fan of the neon cherries that can have an unripened, green taste to them which makes them extra yuck lol.
Laughing at your half flat rootbeer in your non-dream life!
I have never had a flaming Dr Pepper, and did not even know that was a thing. When I turned drinking age, we used to drink Blue Whales and Sloe Gin Fizzes…that probably dates me!
My mother and aunt used to take my sister, my cousin and I to bingo at the officer’s club, and they always ordered us sloe gin fizzes. We were all 12 – 14 years old at the time, and we loved it. It’s amazing that we didn’t turn into alcoholics because our mothers would always order us drinks if we were with them and they were drinking. Of course this was the late sixties, early seventies, and maybe the laws were different.
Your flat rootbeer gave me a laugh and got me thinking of the sodas of my childhood. Definitely dating myself but I miss the mixed crates of Brookdale soda my grandparents always had for family gatherings…
Wearing and enjoying Lutens Clair de Musc from the swap meet. For such a light scent, it lasts a long time on skin. I can see layering it with all kinds of things.
A good musk makes a great base.
I just spritzed a little Narciso Rodriguez white cube on top, the musks combine beautifully. Especially on a beautiful spring day!
You smell lovely!
You inspire me to push it back at the front of the cabinet, yes, it is very persistent and your combo sounds perfect.
You smell wonderful today!
Hello, friends! I’m on the east coast visiting my mother right now, and the sun has come out for just about the first time since I got here on Saturday. I’m in the dregs of a decant of Mohur I left in her house years ago.
Robin, what a beautiful picture; I love lilacs. And in fact, in a few months, I’ll be living next-door to a little lilac tree, becauuuuuuuuse WE GOT THE HOUSE! We put in an offer this weekend, and it was accepted 🙂 We’re very excited; it is just beautiful, and perfectly laid out for us, and just genuinely the highest quality construction we have ever seen in the Bay Area. The current owners won’t leave for another two months, and then we’ll want to do some superficial fixes, so we won’t move in for quite a while. But that gives me lots of time to plan the garden and pick a hot tub (that’s right, we’re going to get a HOT TUB for the backyard, see if we don’t) and figure out how to ship my piano from the east coast to the west. It also gives me some time to say a proper goodbye to our current house, which I love dearly and will miss. But anyway, we’re thrilled!
How exciting for you. Congratulations!
Wow! Congratulations on the house AND the lilac tree!
How exciting! And congratulations!
Congratulations!
Oh that’s great news, Koyel, congratulations! Have fun with your mom.
Congratulations, and how wonderful about the lilac tree!
Congratulations!
Congrats!
Congratulations!
Wow, what a joy!!! Good for you.
This is very exciting. Lilacs and a hot tub are among my dreams, too. Glad you’re getting yours!
Yay congrats on your house! A piano and a hot tub…a FUN house indeed! 🙂
Congratulations!
Congratulations!
Congratulations, Koyel! That is so exciting!
Congratulations! How exciting!
Congratulations on your offer being accepted!
Congratulations, koyel.
What fabulous news. Congratulations!
Yay! Congratulations!
Finally got my cabinet set up and all my scents unpacked, and for no particular reason I’m doing a week of Serge Lutens. (A *whole* week, at least: yesterday was Santal Blanc.) Today I’m in Douce Amère, the most perfectly bittersweet scent I have ever smelled.
Sometimes Lutens is a bit much for me, but then I’ll stop wearing perfume or only sniff new releases (shudder) for a while and when I wear a perfume of his again, I just realise how unique they really are. I should do a week or two or three of just SL. His is the most represented house in MY house!
Me too! I have 15 of his scents and I treasure every single one of them.
SOTD is Chanel Paris-Deauville. It is very limey on me. I like it.
Limey sounds good.
You smell great…I love Deauville.
Joining you in Paris-Deauville. The basil is at the forefront for me, but the lime is definitely there too.
Pretending I am on a tropical island in OJ Tiare.
You smell lovely.
Lilacs are one of my favorite flowers also. The scent is beyond beautiful. I think we may plant a tree or bush here at some point. Our little HOA still has paving and some landscaping to do, so I have to wait a bit. But I will soon pull out one of the soaps I bought and hoarded that is a gorgeous lilac.
I think today is another Tangy Rhubarb day for me. On the booze front, we stopped at a little local market for gas. And I bought a four pack of a Canadian whiskey and peach tea concoction. I’m a fan of whiskey/bourbon. The Old Fashioned is probably one of my favorite cocktails (the traditional kind, not the Wisconsin style.) And I may visit the distillery across the street at some point…after a year never visiting, I may wander over as the weather warms up. I’ve heard they do nice cocktails.
My husband turned into a serious Old Fashioned man during the pandemic, luxury cherries & all 🙂
Sun this morning yay! Even if it is only 9C. More laboring in the yard but the worst is done. My whole body hurts from hauling rocks yesterday. Wearing Santal Massoia.
Rocks, goodness, hope you can now rest.
Great exercise though!
You smell great. I love Santal Massoia.
Winter has returned to my part of Virginia. Glad I did not put all my sweaters away. So who else is a wee bit peeved that L’ Artisan’s new perfumes are not available in sample sizes or any other size besides 100 mls? Maybe so new that they are still not available at any decanting service yet. I shall keep checking. World Cocktail Day? This is an interesting CP. Challenge accepted. Gucci Rush today for “I Wish This Was a Cocktail, I would surely drink it”.
Okay. Now there is a sample set that exists at the L’ Artisan website but it is out of stock……
Yes, I think samples don’t diffuse out to all countries quickly…
I am quite impatient. Must work on that.
I like your CP entry! 😄
Thank you!
I’ve decided to wear perfumes I received in swaps this week, but I’ll find something to wear for the CP on Friday. I may end up going with what I wore last time we did it in 2018. 😃
Today it’s Iris Ukiyoue, and technically I’m wearing from a 4ml mini I’ve had for a while, but I should be able to thunk it when I reapply later, so then I will move on to using the 15ml travel spray I got in a swap.
Like some of you, I took advantage of the rare discount code from Luckyscent this weekend and bought Mohur Extrait. I never really thought I’d splurge on it, but I decided to treat myself because why not. It was on back order but says it should ship within two weeks, which is just fine by me. I also hope that LS sends me the samples I requested. I gave them plenty of options in the notes, so there’s really no reason why they shouldn’t be able to.
Yay for your LS order! I ordered from them a week ago or so and they fulfilled all 4 of the samples I requested. I. know some have had back luck but I think they have always given me the samples I asked for.
That’s good to hear!
Lucky you! I tried to use that code and it said it didn’t apply to any of the perfumes I wanted…sigh.
Oh, that sucks! I’d been worried about that and was a bit surprised that it worked on the NV.
I’m in Berdoues Peng Lai, an osmanthus goodness for a sunny day
Yum! Enjoy your sunny floral day Lucasai.
Even before I saw todays photo I spritzed Highland Lilac! We’ve had a very cold and wet spring. No spring at all honestly, so the lilacs here in Minneapolis are barely tiny green buds. It will be at least 2 weeks before we see flowers and unfortunately this week is going to be HOT. That’s the very worst for new baby lilacs and my cherry blossom buds.
What a crappy spring, it lasted about 2 days.
Crappy spring here too, although we have yet to get hot! Good luck, hope the lilacs do better than you’re expecting.
Went back to the prior iterations of this theme and was reminded that I haven’t seen BobH post in a while. His 2017 post was hilarious, and very “him” — hope he’s okay these days.
I have several favorite cocktails (hic!), the current frontrunner being the Manhattan. I have a teensy-weensy martini glass that I use for them — making it half-size ensures that I get to enjoy it icy-cold throughout, and keeps the imbibing (and calorie count) reasonable.
SOTM is Indochine, just because.
Just because is the perfect reason for Indochine. You smell wonderful!
My favorite cocktail is also the Manhattan.
My Sotd is a perfume my son picked out all by himself and gave me for Mother’s Day. Ocean Pacific Simply Sun. He was so excited to give it to me. He explained he picked it because it looked like a warm scent and he had noticed that I tend to wear warm smelling perfume. The bottle is pretty and has palm trees on it. It smells similar to Bon Bon or maybe Fantasy. He said ” it’s a good one right Mom?” I said ” it’s perfect!” Made me cry! 🌞
That’s so heartwarming, lillyjo!
It really is! Putting thought into any gift matters more than the gift itself.
Your son is so sweet. The apple of my eye who has gone off to university has turned into an aloof stranger. Whenever I phone him, he is always “busy”, “at a friend’s place” or feel that I am “checking up on him”. I hope that he outgrows this stage and move on from being independent to being the adult version of the boy that I really liked.
Oh believe me my son would rather stay in his room on the computer rather than interact with me many days. I am sure this is just something they go through.
Oh, I love it that he took the time to pick a warm scent specifically, so thoughtful, you raised him right.
Thank you Aurora!
Love this…what a sweet son.🥰
That’s adorable, lillyjo. What a sweetheart of a son you have! 💕
Aww, that’s such a sweet thing your son did!
How nice that he put some real thought into your gift! Good job raising him, mama!
Best story of the day, thanks lillyjo!
Awwwwwww. What a sweet story about your son! I’m gonna tear up now.
Who’s chopping onions? This is very heartwarming.
Oh man, that’s just the sweetest.
So cute:)
How sweet of your son!
Thunderstorms return this afternoon, so I am dashing outside to get the lawn mowed and take a brisk walk. Wearing TF Patchouli Absolu.
Ugh, hope you got it all done in time foxbins!
Hi NST.
Haven’t checked in for a while (my MIL passed away, my son had a second bout of covid, had to move my own mother into a retirement village and my mom has a LOT OF STUFF). My best friend’s mom, whom I was very close to, passed away, as did a previous neighbour. I wore Chanel no 5 body oil to all these funerals and it was perfect: soft and classy, but with a backbone.
Sorry you lost people close to you.
Oh goodness, that’s a lot to have been dealing with. I’m very sorry, but glad you’re back here now.
Very sorry for all those losses and challenges. Sending you big hugs and glad Chanel was able to help a little bit.
Amyitis, I’m so sorry you’ve been experiencing so many losses. It’s good to see you posting here, and sending hugs. At least you had the perfect scent to help you get through.
I’m so sorry you have had such a rough time. I hope you get some peace soon. I am glad you checked in.
I’m sorry you’ve had so many losses in such a short span of time. Sending you hugs.
I’m so sorry about your losses; that’s alot to deal with at once. Sending you hugs at this difficult time.
So much trauma, I am sorry Amyitis! Hope your mom is adjusting to her new home, and hope you are done with trouble for a long time.
Wow. That’s been an extremely rough stretch to go through. Hugs.
Wow. That’s a lot of deal with – glad you checked in and glad the Chanel was a comfort.
This is a lot to deal with. Hugs.
That’s a lot to have thrown at you at once. Sending hugs to you, your family and your friends.
My heartfelt condolences to you. You are not alone in your Chanel No 5 backbone. It is my go to fragrance for backbone and comfort.
So sorry for all of your losses in a short period. That sounds incredibly hard. Sending you strength and a hug.
I wore Fragonard Grain de Soleil with its name which matched the lovely weather. Tonight it’s Bois des Iles EDP from my new bottle but the size of that bottle made me pause, how am I going to use that amount of perfume, knowing I can’t make decants for swaps as so few of us are European.
Congrats on the new bottle!
Very happy with the scent, thank you Lillijo, but that bottle looks huge, I think it will be my last Exclusif.
Spray it on the sheets, why not?
😃 that is one solution of this dilemma.
Sampling Perdizione again today and debating if I need a FB. I think it’s different enough from Sintra and Guimauve de Nöel…though some of you may disagree.🤣
I see there is an Extrait version and am wondering if anyone has tried the Perdizione Extrait in the blue bottle marketed as the Exceptional Edition…at least I believe it’s extrait vs. EDP in the regular. I see a discount site has the extrait version so am wondering.
Happy belated Mother’s Day to all as well! My 8 year old made a book at school for me and one statement to be filled in was…”My mom likes to…” and her response was…”Research different perfumes.”😍 Out of the mouths of babes!
Ha! The perfect answer! That’s awesome.
Excellent!
Oh my – smart kid!
Wearing Tubéreuse Criminelle, it’s a hot day in Luxembourg and there is something about hot weather and tuberose that us just irresistible. My bell jar is almost half empty now, remember buying it in Paris, in 2009. It wasn’t one of my best visits to that city but choosing the three bell jars was probably the highlight of that trip.
Apparently the Chamade extrait de parfum is still made, but can only be ordered in bee bottles. The price per ml. is actually quite good, but who needs 125 ml of pure parfum?
I appreciate this report on Chamade, thank you. And oh what a memory to have, choosing three bell jars at the Palais Royale, oh!
You smell fabulous! TC is one of my favorites.
Of possible interest (It’s amazing to me to see perfumes of the noughts described as “iconic”!): https://www.harpersbazaar.com/uk/beauty/fragrance/a39904815/90s-00s-perfumes/
Sounds like what’s old is new again!
A very dull day here, I think our run of beautiful autumn weather is over. I’ve chosen Tobacco Vanille today, it’s an any time perfume, but on the warmer side.
Sorry you have winter coming! If it’s any consolation, we are not having any sort of decent spring. And, you smell great!
I’m in PdN L’eau de Sport and as so many in these parts say…why don’t I wear this more often??
I had a long, lovely chat with my daughter yesterday. She was dog sitting and regaled me with stories about the quirky pup she was taking care of. It was in a spendy part of town, so nice for her to get away from her tiny apartment.
Found out my uncle, my dad’s brother, passed away in mid-March, and no one told me or my sisters. Not a word. He evidently was difficult to manage over the last couple of years and there was some relief when he passed. It makes me so sad to hear the things that happened. I have cards in the mail to my aunt and girl cousin, who bore the brunt and responsibility of his care.
Oh this is so sad, so sad. I am glad you had the lovely conversation with your daughter, I hope it helps to balance the pain of the other news.
So true! It’s always a treat to talk with my girl child. She’s my greatest blessing. ❤️
Sorry to hear that you learned about your uncle’s passing in the way that you did.
Thanks Jalapeno, it was a sad surprise. Hugs to you.
So sorry for how you heard about your uncle’s passing. My family mentions stuff in FB but none of us really use it much.
I’m not sure anyone on my dad’s side are on FB. I’m seldom on it either, come to think of it.
I’m sorry for your loss, and for your lost chance to comfort your aunt and cousin when it actually happened.
When I was in my 20s, I would occasionally dog sit for a woman who lived in Malibu. (I most certainly did not!!!). It was heaven.
Thank you, sistine. How lovely to dog sit in Malibu! I image you had lots of walks on the beach. 🐕
That’s rough to find out so much later, I am sorry.
Thanks Robin. We were close when our families were young, so this was a lesson for me to do better at staying in touch.
Desarmant because it’s lilac season
Nice pick thegoddessrena!
Hello everyone! I missed Friday’s poll but to my surprise I was CP compliant – who knew I had an 80ml bottle of L’Envol in my collection? Was it an impulse buy for Mr Dolce that I forgot to hand over? One cautious spray and I liked it, I liked it but I couldn’t begin to describe it and it will need more testing…and speaking of testing I tried the new Paris-Paris for the second time today. If I can buy a small bottle in my fancy local department store then I think I will: it suits my recent rose mood and it is a very easy wear. The SA described it as a rose chypre but to my nose (today at least, on a humid day here) there isn’t much depth and no heaviness to it, so it feels light. Much gentler than the other ones I’ve tried from this range (I have Edimbourg and Deauville) but neither meek nor limp – just easy! Wishing you all a good week.
How funny — you really don’t remember why you have it?
I must have read something about it that convinced me, (Bois de Jasmin perhaps?) and I’ve remembered that it was on offer during the sales last summer, and I’m wearing a cautious spray of it this morning, which I am enjoying, so…maybe it will all work out for the best! 😄
Has Mr. Dolce tried it yet?
Late to post, but I did a side-by-side Tuberose battle today with Amouage Love Tuberose and TF Tubereuse Nue. This was one of those times where I think the Amouage is the better sent, but the Tom Ford was more to my taste.
I’ll have to think on the cocktail CP, and I hope I can achieve the cocktail to match whatever I choose for Friday!
I have many like that…the best isn’t always the best for me 🙂
I’m in Initio Side Effect from a sample today, just a few dabs on my wrists to get an idea of the scent.
It was a bit of a rough day on Friday for me as it was the anniversary date of my mom’s passing so I decided to remain unscented that day. My mom’s fragrances that I recall most clearly when I was growing up are Chanel No 19 edt and Tigress Musk (with the fuzzy lid).
On Saturday we went to see my hubby’s parents (and to also visit for Mother’s Day). I planted my father-in-law’s annual flowers and some seeds in pots. Then we went through a bunch of vinyl records with them as they want to sell them and the old turntable. It was a trip down memory lane going through the records as I had some of them in my younger days. On Saturday, I wore JHAG mmmm and on Sunday I wore Lancome Iris Dragees.
Those anniversaries are the hard ones, for sure. Hugs.
Thank you. And hugs back to you!
A big hug to you Gail.
I’ve been thinking about trying to sell some of my old music memorabilia. I just don’t think I am up to it yet.
Thank you, lillyjo!
I wish I still had all my old vinyl records! I should have taken them when I moved out. My hubby rescued his Meat Loaf album this weekend.
Hugs to you, Gail.
Thank you, h!
Hugs to you on a hard anniversary.
Thank you, sistine!
Posting a little late on a lovely sunny afternoon!
In more adventures with smart phones, I was suddenly startled by an Amber Alert on mine this afternoon. I had been telling my brother that I wasn’t getting any alerts on mine, and he just laughed and said that when it was really an emergency alert I would know about it for sure. He was right.
I got 3 packages in the mail today! One was my Smell Bent samples, one was some hobby stuff of mine, and one was a package from an NSTer. I was expecting only one of them to show up today.
SOTD = back in Le Baiser du Dragon. Wearing this one while the weather is still cool enough for me to do so. I figure warmer days are coming up quickly… 🌞🌞🌞🔥
I’m sitting at 77 degrees right now. Should be heading your way soon.
I figure today is the last day I will need to have the heat on for a while.
Same here. I was actually surprised that my house kept at a constant 70 degrees with my heat turned off for 3 days last week!
Yay on the packages! 😉
I was rather surprised! I wasn’t expecting the others until later on in the week.
SOTD = Chanel Le Lion
Woohoo, the perfume is diminishing slowly but surely!
I think it was AnnieA who mentioned that the office washroom is a good place to leave perfumes, etc. I ended up talking to a cleaner and gave her a bag full of body products and a bag. There were 2 or 3 perfume samples. I’ll probably give her more and add perfumes to the mix. Bottles are harder to mail and I am not motivated to list them as it is extra work and I have to monitor – thanks but no thanks.
Either companies are hurting or they really miss me. Between a coupon mailer and a post card, I can eat the equivalent of 3 meals at Panera with barely shelling out money!
🦁🦁🦁!
Mmm Panera:). I tried some of their bread last week. Yummy. And also got a tub of the honey walnut cream cheese..double yum:). I could probably eat the whole tub in one session haha.
Panera is getting pricey, so congrats on the coupons!
I’m wearing Pacifico by Snif today – it’s an easy reach, and I was in a rush.
I saw a hummingbird today for the first time in at least two years so I feel very lucky. It was so tiny and so beautiful!
It’s so magical seeing hummingbirds. Truly one of nature’s miracles.
How awesome!
I love hummingbirds. I was pretty elated to find out I moved to an area where I see them often. Before the move, they were so very rare to come across. Such delights they are:).
