Happy Almost-Friday and happy Cinco de Mayo! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Cartier Carat.
Reminder: on 5/6, wear a fragrance by Cartier, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: shown are vintage Cartier sunglasses from the 1980s, with 18k gold and 188 diamonds. They were listed on 1stDibs for $25,000 and have sold.
Sampling La Panthers Legere which seems very bright. Appraisal came in over our offer so we’re good there and the first day of my new job went well. All in all, a pretty good week so far
Ah, is this a flanker? I love the original
Yes it is but from several years ago
Yay!!
congrats and congrats!
Good week, indeed! Congratulations!
So happy the process is going well for you house!
Double congrats! đ
That *is* a good week! Congratulations!
I’m wearing Never Never Land by Smell Bent. I needed a dose of something dry after yesterday’s vanilla bomb. I was on the Smell Bent website and found out that Brent Leonesio is closing up shop. Apparently the annual June garage sale will be selling out everything, not just his discontinued stock. After that Smell Bent will be closing down.
Oh bummer! They make such fun scents, and at a reasonable price too.
Oh, no, that’s terrible news! I feel for him. I think I may need to buy full bottles of a few I’ve enjoyed as travel sprays.
That is sad news. Do any of you have any favorites of SB?
St Tropez GOLD — best sunscreen scent ever, IMO
Incensed — Incensed Short Fuse is pretty good, too
Smoked Ambergris
Bollywood or Bust is a nice sandalwood-rose. I utterly adored the name “Tipsy Social Blah Blah”, but it didn’t work as a perfume for me, sadly
Adding my favorites a day late:
Prairie Nymph
Never Never Land
Hungry Hungry Hippies
Sunshine
Elf-Fulfilling Prophecy (holiday limited edition)
I may retry the St. Tropez collection.
Oh, too bad!
Oh rats! Iâm sorry to hear this. It may be time for a full bottle of Incensed. Iâve been using a travel size forever, so a full bottle will last even longer, but I hate the thought of running out. Also, I have a FB of Gypsy, one of those anywhere anytime scents. Seconding Smoked Ambergris! Very warming and gentle. Glad I already have a FB of that one as well.
Oh no, I’ve been meaning to try their stuff for YEARS and never have. Maybe I should just get travel sprays of all their fun scents. Wonder if I should wait for the garage sale and risk some of the interesting ones disappearing…. What kinds of sales do they have, usually?
This was the kick in the pants I needed to order a sample set from Smell Bent. I might get another of the “Pick Your Own” samplers in the next day or so.
Just ordered a bunch of samples…
I’m in Tauer L’Air du DĂ©sert Marocain, very incensey on me, and very compelling.
Yep, you smell great.
Gorgeous
SOTD yesterday was Cartier Oud & Musk, so today will be Oud & Oud. As you might expect, there’s nothing barnyard about the oud in either of these.
I bet. I am so behind on Cartier though, never smelled any of them.
Good morning.
Sotd is Tam Dao. Giving me zen vibes.
Currently drinking âDongfang meirenâ oolong tea.
Zen vibes is good đ
Robin tell me more about your SOTD.
Today was a bit frantic morning, we woke up to an email that the kids had to be tested before going to school today. and then again on Sunday. Good grief Charlie Brown. I hadn’t even had my morning coffee yet and had to rush around for this.
The Lover by Marguerite Duras I finished in a day.
Now back to the book A little life
SOTD picked out by my youngest who is a fan to TF Neroli Portofino
Chantecaille makeup, I am addicted to those liquid blushes.
If you click on the link above, I did review it! It’s a happy spring floral.
Have not read The Love in eons and eons.
ok..going to read your review!
Sunglasses are often lost items..probably not so much the case with these but..just a thought. Lol. Who knows if the pair is actually worn. Probably in some case.
Tried a fragrance oil Rose Petals by Colorpop..I don’t smell too good right now. Has this lingering sweet plastic soap thing. Fun to try and cheap but..ick lol. Stinko de Mayo haha.
Lol!
Stinko de Mayođ€Ł
That would be a funny theme for today! It would mean Iâd need to get a sample or two of something I didnât like and normally I donât let any such thing into my home for fear it spilled! â ïž
Today Iâm enjoying R&G Cassis FrĂ©nĂ©sie. I miss seeing their products in stores since they stopped retailing in Canada.
đ€Łđ
Got a much needed chuckle from “Stinko de Mayo”!
Sotd is Antonia’s Flowers Floret and much to my surprise, it’s still hanging in there. The sweet pea top note is lovely.
Aw, I miss Antonia’s Flowers!! Another regret.
You smell wonderful!
No Cartier. SOTD is Kai. OOTD is purple leggings with a long lavender fleece sweatshirt. Please Spring – hurry up! Supposed to warm up in the Midwest tomorrow Yippee đ
I love Kai! It is a very nice no-brainer scent.
You smell great Kris! And join you in waiting for warmth, although at least we managed high 60s here today.
La Curie Ossuary today, with a red tunic. Seemed fitting as a way to remember missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls; today is Red Dress Day in Canada to honour them.
Thank you for mentioning this – I hadnât heard of this day and I have been reading about it because of your comment, thank you.
Ah, I haven’t heard of it either. Or I’ve forgotten. Thanks ockeghem.
Oh, I think it’s just a Canadian thing, so wouldn’t expect you to have heard of it! (Though I’m sure the issues are consistent across many countries.)
Will wear Cartier tomorrow – pretty sure I have a sample of Pathere I can wear, since we are far from having any Soleil this week and the Zeste might make me sad. Still working on the decant of Carner’s Cuirs.
I do love the Zeste though!
Will have to dig around to see if I have any Cartier samples around. I know I have no FBs.
Need to dry my hair, then walk up to library to get a book that came in. I may sit out on their deck for awhile, since weather has warmed up. Wearing Narciso white cube.
I am heading to the library shortly myself for the same reason, although probably not the same book đ
You smell great LizzieB!
Un Jardin sur le Nil, thanks to katsura’s lovely freebie. Perfect today, now that it’s finally warm and sunny.
Nice.
Un Jardin Sur le Nil is fabulous — make sure you wear it in really hot, humid weather too, it’s just mesmerizing. In a good way.
Another grey day of rain and cold temps, blah. Sooo sick of this weather. Wearing Iris Torréfié and dreaming of being elsewhere.
Weather twins. đą
You smell wonderful; Iris Torrefie is dreamy!
Wearing Jubilation 25 today and enjoying every minute of it. Ordered travel sprays of Gris Charnel and 1270. I almost added a sample of 1270 extreme but decided against it for some reason.
Glad you are loving it Dawn! I still hanker after a bottle of XXV.
Me too. I have a small decant, and fortunately I only need a small drop each time I spray (unless I want everyone in my postal code to smell it), but still I waver on the FB. It’s beautiful.
I love those sun glasses. Pretty sure I could never quite pull them off, but what fun!
Just drained my travel spray of Oeillet Bengale–a successful swapmeet acquisition from the past.
I am pretty sure I would look ridiculous in them, so we’re not-fancy-enough twins.
SOTD is SL Chergui.
Itâs raining. Again. It did let up yesterday afternoon so we got in a good walk and some chores done.
Happy Birthday Kinsey Millhone! This long time reader misses you. đą
Oh my, Kinsey! I did not make it to the end of the alphabet but I did make it a good long way.
Raining across the Strait, too. Today was pretty miserable, though yesterday wasn’t so bad.
I read in the NYT that Judy Henske died. Her album “High Flying Bird” was my intro to folk music and I have never lost my love for it. Today is a travel day, so I will have to pick something soft and inoffensive, so not Salome. I’m flying back to rain and more rain and some medical/dental appointments I wish I could dodge, but, like my car, I now need regular maintenance.
Oh, I do not know her. I will have to investigate. Hope your travels went well…
Wearing AC Iris Rebelle.
Warm, sunny, breezy, beautiful day in the 70âs. I just came back to the office from a site visit. I really enjoyed being outside today.
I feel that I need to stop having my morning coffee in the kitchen. Early this morning a squirrel was on the window sill munching on something, when suddenly something big hit the window from the outside. The noise was terrifying. I was shocked for a couple of seconds and then I ran to the window just to find a red-tailed hawk standing on the fire escape looking confused. I guess he tried unsuccessfully to catch the squirrel. This is the first time in my life that see a hawk that close. It was amazing. He stayed there for no more than a minute and then took fly very slowly and very low. I am sure he was hurt badly. I did not know that a big bird predator could come that close to buildings looking for food. I have seen them occasionally in my area flying very high, so that really caught me by surprise. I really hope he recovers from that brutal hit.
Happy almost Friday, everyone! đŠ
Sorry about that upsetting natural event, PL67! I suspect larger birds might withstand those hits better. I had to put up stickers on certain windows to lessen bird strikes, but the ones killed outright were always the smaller ones (before I realized what was going on). I’ll hope you see the hawk later and know he was okay!!
Thank you for the tip about the stickers, MossyBerry. I need to get some as soon as possible. Many birds come to my kitchen and bedroom windows all the time. They may have been hitting the windows already for a long time and I have not been aware of it, since I spend most of the birds day outside.
Oof. I was just listening to a podcase about birds dying from impact with windows. I’m sorry this happened đ and I hope that hawk is ok. I hope you find some stickers that work for you!
I did something similar but it was stenciling a design on the windows and using paint to make it look like the window was etched. The windows looked out into my back yard, so I didnât care too much the end result was but they ended up looking really nice. Also, easily scraped off.
Birds canât really âseeâ windows and frequently fly into them. Large cities with windowed skyscrapers or even shorter buildings including homes, are regularly the death of thousands of birds. Maybe even millions across the world. When I was working at home, my desk was I front of picture a window and I had the same experience you did. Scared the beejesus out of me. I went out to look and unfortunately the bird was in the process of dying⊠đ”
I know the feeling – I was very sad but the stickers seems to work.
That is very sad! Since I have been living in that area I have been very exposed to some wildlife. As an animal lover I need and want to learn more about them and the dangers they encounter everyday. Thanks for the info, Deva!
SotD La Vie est Belle Intensement, from my Frag…Net subscription travel spray. It is working very nicely for a rainy, cool Cinco de Mayo. Since Mr. Mossy and I go for Mexican every Thursday anyhoo, we will be joining the party later! Tossing an enabler badge to Hajusuuri for this selection, which I quite like. I need to revisit the original LVeB; but I *think* I like this one better…
đ I think the Intensement is better than the original!
In the mood for roses today, so I’m wearing a souvenir of Paris, Ausmane Rose ImpĂ©riale
How lovely to have a special souvenir. I havenât heard of this company, off to do some research!
Spent the day in Arancio di Sicilia by I Profumi di Firenze, very refreshing and later Historiae Bouquet du Trianon, one of my favorite florals lately.
That sounds like a nice mix!
It made for a Good day, at least perfume-wise.
Started the morning in Dior Cuir Cannage â oh how I love that one! â and now am in tiny spritzes of PG Cuir dâIris. Getting ready to go get my second shingles inoculation, and then spend the afternoon doing not much other than moving the affected arm around a lot. Really glad our gorgeous day this week was yesterday and not today!
Good luck…hope the arm is not too bad!
I’m going to have to ban cats from my bedroom. Ordinarily I find it cozy to sleep with kitties but the past two nights I’ve had terrible leg pains and tossed and turned from side to side trying to find a comfortable position to lie in and there’s always some cat or two snuggled up to me not allowing for much variation until I want to scream at them all to GO AWAY! (Yeah folks good thing there’s no husband involved here.)
Anyway I slept in until 1 p.m. today and just made a grocery delivery order for 5 p.m. so I feel pretty accomplished. It’s expensive but it includes wine and I’ll have it by cocktail hour, woo-hoo! I also ordered Dulce de Leche ice cream, Happy Cinco de Mayo for later tonight!
My SOTD is Patchouli Nosy Be by Perris Monte Carlo. I’d forgotten about this stuff–the one I more often wear from them is their Ylang Ylang, which I adore. This is an awfully nice patchouli in what I call the ‘”golden” mode. It’s smooth and flowing, no rough edges, softened by sandalwood and labdanum (It has cocoa but I am not getting any real chocolate here). It’s got a lot of potency but isn’t in-your-face, at least, I don’t think so.
I’m sorry so many people are still waiting for spring. We’re already into summer here and it’s yucky. I also had a mosquito in bed with me last night–ugh–one of those ones that kept squealing in and around my ears causing me to slap myself silly!
Wow, a mosquito + too many cats…hope that ice cream made up for it, and hope you get good sleep tonight!
And they invariably start buzzing when youâre almost asleep! Itâs late, so I hope you slept well!
Ugh, so tired today! My afternoon weirdness turned into a terrible night of sleep. Strange, since I was feeling fine in the early evening hours. Then this morning I had a bit of digestive upset, so breakfast was some Pepto-Bismol. Hmmphf! Dunno what’s going on, but I can’t say that I care for it.
Spooky kitty had another vet appointment this afternoon for a B-12 shot. Again she was a champ at the vet, but she was a little agitated on the way home. Turns out that she needed a litterbox STAT! Fortunately no kitty accident in the car.
SOTD = again with 31 RC EdT. I needed something that would play nice with sleep deprivation.
Oh oh! Hope you feel better by tomorrow.
Hello everyone, had a very busy day so on here for a break and some new ideas – it feels like reward of some sort just reading your comments. Thank you all. Began in Diptyque Eau Rose and it was great, such a simple and clear rose which lasted much better than I expected. Itâs an old roller ball which was probably my first Diptyque due to its price. Then I found my tiny newish sample of Guerlain Rose ChĂ©rie and it is a gorgeous perfume, almost edible without being a real gourmand – is there almond in there? Or something like violet? Either way it feels a little like something that would be good to eat. So this is all very cheering!
Nice! I like Eau Rose but have never tried Rose Cherie.
I continued my Serge Lutens week. Yesterday evening I put on Bois de Violette and this morning I applied Iris Silver Mist.
It’s pouring rain so I’m planning on making Black Bean Soup tomorrow. We are supposed to have rain until the middle of next week so I can’t put away my winter recipes (or clothes) just yet!
Weather twins and house twins. đ§
Hi twin!
Those are both lovely perfumes.
SOTD is Ineke Field Notes from Paris, which started with a fantastic opening of bergamot, orange flower, and coriander notes all popping. After a few minutes, the beeswax and leather start to come out, along with some patchouli. Nice, but not as exciting as the opening. Cedar takes over after a couple of hours, softened by vanilla and tonka.
Tea today was Clipper Ship’s Hot Buttered Rum, with some coconut shavings added in.
I do like Field Notes though…always thought I should get a small bottle.
SOTD = Papillon Bengale Rouge
Love it!

In other news, NYC was quite crowded today. I left my usual time and there were quadruple the number of people on my walking route back to NYPenn. Also, some crazy person let her unleashed doodle to fend for itself when she was busy TEXTING. The doodle got its paws up on my leg (not a big deal) but there were cars zipping along the street. Seriously, if the dog got hit, I blame its owner.
Ugh, nothing worse than an irresponsible pet owner. T-Rex almost had a baby frenchie by the throat when the owner let it off itâs leash because it was pulling her towards T-Rex. Along the ROAD with cars whizzing by AFTER I told her my dog is not DOG FRIENDLY. The poor thing ran up to T-Rex like she was itâs long lost mama. THEN, the owner/idiot starts yelling at her DOG like itâs the dogâs FAULT. I. Cannot. Tolerate. Irresponsible. Pet. Owners!
Cartier Carat for me too! I don’t have many Cartier fragrances, so tomorrow will be Baiser VolĂ©. I do like Carat; it didn’t make much of a splash but it’s very wearable, easy to like. And I do love the bottle and the whole concept!
Hey twin! And we will be twins (actually, guessing we’ll be a big group) tomorrow too.
