It's the first Monday in May. Eid Mubarak! Also, a very happy birthday to Our Lady Donatella Versace. What fragrance are you wearing?
I’m in Lush Kerbside Violet.
Reminder: on 5/6, wear a fragrance by Cartier, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: shown is a Cartier Pasha Skeleton watch, but I am not sure which one. The Pasha models run from about $6000 to $140,000.
Good Morning-
I only have one Cartier fragrance that I love and will save for Friday.
I am curious to know what other will wear from this house since I am not familiar with many Cartier fragrances.
I had horrible sleep last night. At around 4am the baby upstairs was crying at an octave I think only dogs could hear, followed by thunder around 6ish that must of woke up all of NYC.
Navitus Absolutio a dupe for MFK BR 540
Yikes. We haven’t had thunder over here yet, but it is raining and may happen later.
The train tracks across the street from me are my ‘thunder and baby upstairs’, those train whistles are looooouuuuddd.
I can’t even imagine!
We had a drum line — seriously, it sounded like a military parade, but one that WASN’T MOVING. It’s a bank holiday weekend here in Ireland, but why a drum line at 10 p.m. on a Sunday? And then I was awakened at 12:30 by a woman’s screams. Fortunately, that turned out not to be a situation requiring a call to the gardaí, but what a night.
Oh no, that all sounds dreadful (relieved it wasn’t a serious incident but rotten to hear nonetheless).
Wow.
I also have exactly one Cartier! And it’s a doozy (as far as I’m concerned). Saving it for Friday, of course.
I join you in the one Cartier club. And sorry about your sleep, hope it’s better tonight.
I hope so too!
The Cartier I have is La Panthere. I really love it a lot. I am treasuring my small sample.
Aha, thank you LTSG! I thought I had no Cartiers either but you’ve reminded me about a couple of old samples. I’ll need to go looking but at am sure there is at least one nice sample for Friday. Thank you!
I’m wearing Eau De Magnolia by Frederic Malle. My personal project for May is wearing Manufacturer’s samples, either those I haven’t tried, or those that are almost finished. I chose Eau de Magnolia today because I noticed that the magnolia trees are blooming in my part of Texas. It is very pretty, and decant worthy.
You smell lovely!
Yesterday’s SOTD was Fleur Narcotique, and today I believe I will be in Floris, unless I change my mind at the very last possible second.
Last night I watched The Last Time I Saw Paris (1954) with Elizabeth Taylor and Van Johnson. Nice, pleasant, light-hearted fare about boy meets girl and subsequent hijinks. I’m telling y’all, they really knew how to cinch Liz’s waist into those dresses back then. Just looking at her onscreen makes me wonder how she was able to breathe.
HAHA!
When I even think about wearing tight pants the digestion system goes out with window. I am not sure how she could breath either!
I have seen it, Liz is so gorgeous. And Van Johnson was pretty cute too.
Scent: none yet, but it might be Jour d’Hermes. It’s cloudy here, and Jour d’Hermes feels like sunshine to me. Today is my birthday, and if the weather gods don’t feel like throwing out some sunshine, I’ll do my best to spray some!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday! I’m sure you smell like sunshine in whatever you wear 🙂

Happy belated birthday!
Caron Parfum Sacre and a cup of lemon ginger tea.
You smell lovely.
Hi All!
I wish I had my Baiser Vole with me – I would happily wear it on Friday!
We are ok. No more fever, and only a bit of coughing (still a bit of stuffy nose and scratchy throat).
A few weeks ago my Ukrainian client turned up and asked me to finish the project we started in February. So I have some work (nearly done with it though). Also had some small jobs.
I might have to add VAT to my invoices in Sweden. I emailed Swedish Tax Office and they sent me a guide for foreign businesses in Sweden, and there are a lot of things to think about.
The most exciting piece of news for me is that my aplplication to SheCodes Foundation was approved last Monday, and now I am on the waiting list. They give free coding classes to people in developing countries and refugees. https://www.shecodesfoundation.org/ukraine
I tried a bit of coding back in Ukraine (HTML, CSS and JavaScript), so I am quite excited about learning more.
Very exciting about the coding classes! I took a lot of those in college (before my uni offered a computer science degree, and long before html was even a gleam in anybody’s eye) and really enjoyed them.
I remember learning some BASIC still in the high school. And then learning some of HTML tags 5-10 years later, still using Notepad. Nowadays, things are very different thanks to the modern software.
Good luck with the classes! If it’s something you like, you could probably do it from anywhere, yes? With your language background, it’ll probably be easy as pie for you. Always good to “see” you, and warm hugs to Mom and Kora 🐈⬛
In theory yes, but being a real developer takes a lot of time and effort. However it is a good starting point. Also, translators who actually know how coding works are more likely to get into localization projects (or so I heard). Normally this course costs around $1400-1500, so I am very happy to study for free.
Mom and Kora say thanks and hi. Keep an eye on my Insta for more Kora’s pictures soon.
Give a kiss to T-Rex from me!
Will keep an eye on insta. Love your photos of Ms. Kora, flowers, locale, anything really! ✌🏼
Wonderful! So glad to hear that you’re on the mend, and will be able to learn some coding. Always nice to have a new challenge!
GREAT news about the coding classes. Take good care.
Hello dear Glannys, sending best wishes to you and your mother and your sweet pet, very glad to hear your good news and I hope things continue to improve for you.
Glad to hear you’re feeling better, and things in Sweden are starting to come together.
That’s great about the coding class. I’ve really enjoyed your photos of spring on Sweden!
Oh cool! I sometimes think that my flower pictures are boring and repetitive, and I am the only person who is interested in them. Thank you!
BTW, there are magnolias in bloom in Sweden right now (already withering, but I still managed to take some pictures). I thought the climate is not right for them and was quite excited to see them.
Pleased to hear that you and your Mom are feeling much better now. Best of luck on those coding classes! 💛💙
Yay for all the good news Glannys!
That’s great news that you and your mom are feeling better. And congratulations on your deserved successes!
Happy Eid ul-Fitr to all and any!
I’m in MPG’s Patchouli 1969.
Hope it has been a good day Oakland Fresca.
Woke to bright sunshine so I spritzed on a bit of Paris-Deauville to match. Now it’s suddenly dark and a bit ominous outside (and a bit chilly inside), so I think I’ll go warm up in a hot shower and switch to something amber-y. Maybe dig out the Alahiiiiine — my bottle’s sprayer leaks so that one is in exile in a ziplock. I should probably transfer what’s left to something more secure, but I have the older glass bottle and it’s so pretty!
Oh, that’s a shame! (I meant the Alahine bottle but maybe the weather too.)
In a pair of samples this morning: first is L’Artisan Arcana Rosa 9, which smells to me like 80% Rose 31 + 20% POAL while sitting next to a blackberry bush. It’s semi-rich, like a thick chenille but not a velvet. The second is DS & Durga Bistro Waters and it is right up my alley. Green bell peppers, fresh basil water, oakmoss, a few cracks of coriander, and wafts of linden. This one is light, but would be exactly right on a hot, humid day. Like a sibling of Diptyque Venise, but where V leans herbs&vetiver on me, this one leans more vegetal&moss.
Tea today is Twinings English Breakfast because I’m at the office. It’s silly to be here; it is me and only one other person from my department, and I’ll spend the whole day with my office door shut.
Huh, sounds like maybe I need to try Bistro Waters.
Ah, I can avoid Bistro Waters, then. Linden does not like me at all!
Same here!
Smell Bent Smoked Ambergris for me on this overcast rainy day.
When I was waiting for the ferry from Port Angeles to Fort Casey, I saw a passel of Bald Eagles flying about and thought I saw a couple of them fighting. I posted it on Instagram and some kind soul educated me, saying that this was actually two eagles mating and doing the Death Spiral. This is a mating behavior not often caught on video. The name comes from the fact that sometimes the eagles do not decouple in time and end up hitting the ground. Also, telephone and electric wires cause some deaths when the eagles fall onto them. You never know what you’re going to learn on Instagram. I copied the link for any who are interested in seeing that behavior. Luckily, the two I saw didn’t hit the ground or any wires!
https://www.instagram.com/reel/CdCTMnKp-Ln/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
Loved seeing that video and explanation. I don’t think I would have known, either. Pretty amazing to see.
It was amazing! I started to pan away because I thought they were going so low a car was going to hit them! 😢
Thanks for this, Deva, I had no idea. Eagles are just now showing up in my part of the country, the lower Great Lakes, so we get excited when we spot one. I’ve never seen as many irl as you have on your video.
Yeah, I get the excitement! In Arizona, there was a nesting pair that had moved in just a couple years ago and I think every photographer in town was set up on the edge of the lake trying to get photos! 😃 All the trails on that side of the lake were closed so they weren’t disturbed or threatened by humans and dogs.
In some areas they are still so rare, it’s an EVENT to spot one. 😍
So strange! Why would Nature plan a reproductive dance that is so risky?
I don’t think nature figured in buildings, pavement, and electrical/phone lines🤷🏻♀️
So strange! Why would Nature plan a reproductive dance that is so risky?
Ha, think of teenagers…it’s the same in most species.
WOW! I’ve seen the occasional eagle, or maybe two in the wild if I was really lucky. Never as many as your video shows!
I’m in Belles Rives from La Parfumerie Moderne today.
Such a beautiful fragrance, you smell wonderful!
Thank you. More people should know it.
I’m totally out on this CP — no Cartier whatsoever, in any form. SOTD is JF Schwarzlose Altruist, from a sample I found this morning. It’s a dabber, though, so I can barely smell it at this point.
This weekend I was finally shopping downtown, and parked right outside Holt’s, so I could try Synthetic Jungle on my way out the door, and thus smell the top notes without a mask. Of course, the associate there was swamped with people who apparently wanted to try the whole line, and she was only spraying on paper. But my daughter managed to work her way into a spray on her arm. (Go kid!) Both kid and I rather liked it, although it was way better on her than on paper. (Go figure.) Now that she’s gearing up for high school, Ockeghem Tween is discovering that she needs to be a bit more discerning on clothes (she has worn uniforms until now) and, apparently, perfume. She decided she liked Synthetic Jungle WAY better than her Zara Star Wars perfume. 😀
That said, I hadn’t been into the Malle display for a while, and holy cow are there a lot of perfumes now. Lots of perfumes, shoehorned into a tiny amount of shelf space.
Sounds like Ockeghem Teen is on her way to fragrant fabulousness. And no Cartier in my collection, either.
A friend is branching out from Chanel so we went to the Holts F. Malle counter, where she fell in love with POAL. The SA was nice, but only mentioned the prices for the 50 and 100 ml.
Happily for all parties, I knew to ask about the travel spray and oh yes, they did have one for under 1/3 the price of the next size up. This *was* in my friend’s budget and a purchase was made there and then.
Oooh, yes, always good to be in the know on that one. 🙂
Good enabling there!
I’ll come back later to post my SOTD plus a few musings.

Wearing Carner Barcelona Cuirs on a cool about-to-rain-again day. A friend from out of town is coming for a visit, so looking forward to playing tour guide.
I don’t think I know this one, but anything I’ve tried from Carner Barcelona (Rima XI, Tardes, Botafumeiro and maybe something else) has been wonderful, very rich and smooth, so I hope you’re enjoying this, and that your tour-guiding will be fun!
No Cartier in my collection at all. Maybe I’ll stop by Brown Thomas tomorrow and see what they have.
And I am commando today, but with a trace of yesterday’s Ormonde Woman on the band of my FitBit. We are starting to get ready to leave Ireland and go back to the States. With deeply mixed feelings.
You and your FitBit smell lovely. 🙂
I totally sympathize on the mixed feelings in coming back. It was very hard for me to leave Germany when we moved home six years ago. I loved so much about being in Germany — especially the smells, which are on theme here — things just smell more over there (usually good, sometimes bad). On the other hand, store opening times and stock are better here…
Oh, that seemed so fast!! I’m sure your feelings are mixed.
Hello everyone! It’s my best friend’s birthday today (we’ve known each other since 1985!) so this morning I wore her signature scent from our college days, Cacherel Noa Noa. As it’s Lady Donatella’s birthday I am now wearing my newest perfume in her honour, Rosendo Mateu 4, which names Saffron, Oud, Vanilla on its label and was on massive markdown locally. I haven’t heard of this label before, does anyone have any others to recommend? This is lovely – a very smooth and gentle oud, radiant but delicate. Eid Mubarak to all who are celebrating!
Nice birthday mix!!
How wonderful that you are still in touch with your best friend! Those kind of relationships are something special.
No CP for me this week, I don’t have anything from Cartier. Le Baiser du Dragon has been on and off my list of possible future purchases for years, and I’ve been keen to try some of the Heures collection.
I’m wearing a dress with a touch of pink, so I think Plum from Mary Greenwell will suit.
I have very little Cartier myself. I wish I had some Zeste de Soleil!
I did not love the few Heures I tried, but I am *way* behind.
Wearing Yesterday Haze and am thoroughly enjoying it. Another chilly gray day, the tulips are poised on the edge of blooming as are the red bud trees but it’s like they’re just waiting for a little warmth and sunshine.
You smell fantastic ringthing!
My husband cut down our only redbud a couple weeks ago, right after it bloomed. It was in a stupid place — and yes, I told him it was in a stupid place when he planted it, LOL! Sorry to see it go all the same, so pretty when it is in bloom.
Aww sorry it’s gone and that’s funny 😉 I enjoy how redbuds look like any other tree the rest of the year but they are so beautiful in their time to shine. Then they get leaves and they’re anonymous again.
Why was the redbud cut down? Was it unhealthy?
It was in a very bad position on a slope between the driveway and the house, and growing at a very odd angle so it was leaning out over part of the area where we park (and making it more likely that one day we’ll have a collision when one of us is pulling in and the other is backing out), plus about to grow into where the power lines meet the house. There should not be any tree there and I did mention that when he planted it!
I spent the day in Eden but tonight because yesterday was the traditional muguet giving in France I am wearing vintage Diorissimo Esprit de Parfum.
Oh what a special perfume to have, I hope you feel wonderful in it.
Thank you, it was like a breath of spring.
Oh, pretty!
Thank you, it is indeed pretty, so spring-like.
I am looking forward to wearing my one much-loved Cartier this Friday. Today is overcast and blustery and I’m wearing Stash.
Yum, you smell perfect for a blustery day.
I couldn’t find anything I wanted to wear this morning. I finally settled on St Clair Eve. I’m happy in that. And I’m sitting outside on my porch. It’s a warm day with strong and pleasant soft breezes. We get them off the Gulf.
I’m watching Anatomy of a Scandal on Netflix and pondering the British class system.
Porch twins Calypso!! (Except for the soft Gulf breezes, not so much of that here.)
Wearing Un matin d’orage by Goutal. My Goutals live in my second fridge in the basement of my apartment building. They had been sadly neglected till I decided my fridge needed a good clean. In that process my Goutals got redistributed across the fridge so I have easier access to them (they had been packed together on the bottom shelf). I need to think of a more permanent solution to their placement, that will still enable me to actually use the fridge for food.
My week in France was pretty much perfect. Lots of things in bloom (plenty of lilacs an wisteria) and lovely spring weather. Crisp mornings and sunny afternoons. Visited a bunch of Romanesque churches. I had brought a large selection of decants and explored this particular part of France in Beloved, Beyond Love, Back to Black, Songes, Chypre Azural, Divine par Divine and Sarrasins. It was a very fragrant week and just had a wonderful time.
Sounds like a great time. Did you happen to buy any new perfumes while you were there, or were you focused on other things?
No perfume, I really was in a very rural part with no access to good perfume shopping. Which I was aware of before I went there. I did get some really good honeys, nut oils and fancy vinegars.
I was glad you added a link to your instagram account in your post, I had not bookmarked it, and couldn’t find it. Nice to see your pictures of the North West. T-Rex looked like she was doing fine. How old is she now?
Welcome back austenfan!
That all sounds wonderful 🌸
4.5 hours of sleep last night, and it was broken into chunks of time. Super groggy as a result. I hope that I don’t have a repeat tonight! 😫😴
SOTD = Chanel 31 Rue Cambon EdT, from the sample stash. I didn’t care for this one the first time I tried it. Based on today’s sniffing, it looks like I might have come around to liking it. 🤣
Urgh that sound rotten Jalapeno, hope you get through the day okay and that you have a very sound and refreshing sleep tonight (and every other night!).
Thanks DolceVita! I just couldn’t find a comfortable spot last night. It happens every so often. Frustrating, but what can you do? 🤷♀️
Ouch that’s an awful night. Hopefully you will get some rest tonight. 31 Rue Cambon is very nice, isn’t it, it makes me feel like I’m wearing Chanel.
Maybe I needed to grow into 31 RC? Dunno. But I do feel rather adult and put together wearing it today.
Woo hoo! You smell nice!
I hope you get over the lack of sleep and no repeats tonight!
Thanks! Yeah, no more sleep whammies, please!
I don’t believe I have any Cartier scents in my collection so I may end up in Serge Lutens for the week. Today I’m in Datura Noir.
My tulips are finally blooming and the dandelions have popped up. That might mean that Spring is near!
I accidentally had a Serge week last week for the first time in at least a year, if not two…it was a great idea!
That’s a pretty good accidental week! I agree, it’s a great idea. I probably heard it from someone here, quite possibly you!
😀
I went after some dandelions in my grass last week before they bloomed. It’s the time of year where I really should start checking for them every 2 or 3 days now.
They are multiplying. This year they are in my little back garden area, like never before. It could be the price I’m paying for fertilizing a few weeks ago. Everything looks good, but especially the dandelions. I noticed 6 or 7 in a very small area.
Have you aerated that area anytime in the recent past? I remember my Dad saying ages ago that dandelions tend to produce a bumper crop in compacted soil. Unfortunately I have forgotten what time of year he did the soil aeration.
I actually started the CP early yesterday with Eau de Cartier and today I’m in their La Treizieme Heure XIII, which is almost a dupe of Le Labo Patchouli 24. I prefer the LL though because I’ve been getting some urinous aspect in the XIII dry down.
I’ve only got samples of Cartier perfumes, no decants or bottles, interestingly enough.
Ew, urinous is not good!
I am baaaack.
I meant to go into the office today but there was a problem with NJ Transit (as in no trains running) and the choice was easy.
SOTD = Slumberhouse Mond
Ambered tobacco at its most basic level! I don’t like the bottle type but hey, the juice is good.

I went to Target yesterday and got my Green (in Evergreen) mini-Keurig. It was on sale …
I checked out the Ulta within the store as well. Meh…probably because I was not looking for make-up or face care items. There was a good selection of Ariana Grande perfumes with testers but no tester strips.
When I left the store, this woman with 3 kids walked in. I swore it looked like she forgot to wear a skirt or pants – if you’ve seen tummy control shape wear, it looked like that was what she wore! Is this a “thing” now?
Oy, you happen to see some very interesting things when you are out and about. It could very well be a “thing” or a “look”, but I’m not that in the know about fashion. Did it beat those “jeans” from a few years back?
Glad you got to be home today, and that you got a green Keurig! How fun!
You are the second person I know who was affected by that NJT issue today.
