Happy Friday and happy International Dance Day! Birthdays: Duke Ellington and Willie Nelson. Our community project for today is Picture Challenge, edition 7: Hilma af Klint, The Ten Largest. Wear a perfume that matches the picture(s) of your choice from this series that depicts the stages of life. (There is lots more information on this challenge here.)
What fragrance(s) did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm in Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue for Hilma af Klint, The Ten Largest, No. 7 and 8 (adulthood). With no real justification (see my note on Tuesday), I think of these two as your late 40s into your late 60s, creaky knees and all.
Reminder: on 5/6, wear a fragrance by Cartier, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
I am copying Robin today since I am tired and can’t think
Prada’s Infusion d’Iris but not the absolu, just the original for No 7 &8
Today I am off to look at some Pompeii frescos at an art exhibit.
Mother Nature still hasn’t gotten the memo that it is spring,
Hot chocolate this morning and spring makeup 🙂
Enjoy the art exhibit!
Art exhibit plus cocoa sounds perfect.
Thank you. This is the exhibit I am going to https://isaw.nyu.edu/exhibitions/pompeii-in-color
Oh, jealous! That looks wonderful. It has its own website too, with lots more images:
http://www.pompeiiincolor.com/
Wow. It looks great. Enjoy your day
That exhibit looks great!
I loved the Pompeii exhibit that The Franklin Institute over in Philly had several years ago. This one sounds just as fascinating!
Up way too early to get the kid to track practice. No SOTD yet, but I may follow Robin’s lead and go with an iris. Or maybe En Passant, because it feels like it goes with the colours of the paintings, and in my late 40s, I rather treasure both lilacs and bread.
Hope you got a few minutes to rest and pick a perfume by now ockeghem!
Commando for a doctor’s appointment this morning, getting my second booster among other things. Then I plan to come home and spray on a big billowing cloud of Shalimar. Happy Friday, everyone!
Happy Friday! Hope your appointment goes well!
Thanks 🌹
Yay for the second booster! Hope all goes well. I got mine and only had a sore arm for awhile.
Hope the booster went well. I like Laila only had a sore arm with that second one.
Yesssss for a big billowing cloud of Shalimar!
It’s the best.
Hope that your appointment went well, and you are now happily chilling out.
Thank you for this cp, Robin. I’d never heard of this artist before, nor seen her work. I’m fascinated by both the paintings, and the story of the artist. My beloved granny was the daughter of Swedish immigrants so I am drawn to all things Swedish. I wish she were still alive so we could talk about it.😞
I’m in Dear Polly, as an homage to both my Swedish roots and the artist Hilma af Klint. I finally caved and got a travel spray of this one. I needed it in my collection.
Today’s my day off and I have cleaning and errands to run. Loving a new Gucci lipstick that I blind bought during the Sephora sale.
Happy Friday!
So glad you enjoyed it! I am off on my own errands shortly.
Which lippy was it?!
It’s this one
https://www.gucci.com/us/en/pr/beauty/make-up/lips/214-call-it-a-day-rouge-de-beaute-brillant-p-6478599PL139214
The formula is lovely, really smooth and stays put. Also, I love the case, it’s so pretty! The only downside is that it’s skinnier than I’m used to. I will definitely repurchase when it’s gone though!
That’s gorgeous and I looove the case!
Oh, that’s a very pretty lipstick!
Wearing Lubin Grisette for the CP because the pictures remind me of the circular cap and curvy lines of the bottle, and the serene pink and yellow colors match the rose and grapefruit notes.
I’m on a chocolate puer kick this week, so I’m having another pot of that this morning. Looking forward to nice weather this weekend, and maybe even dinner outside on the patio tomorrow night.
It’s nearly warm out now! But only nearly.
I’m not doing the CP today, but just looking at the colors of the paintings, I get a 60s vibe. Anyway I’m in Fruitchouli Flash.
Groovy!
Yes, me too. Get a vague Emilio Pucci-esque vibe from the artwork featured today. Never saw IRL, but seems to me Pucci once had a fragrance in a groovy, mod bottle with colors similar to these.
Good morning and TGIF!
I have chosen the 2 orange pictures of Youth. My pairing scent is Orange Sanguine, not only for the colour but also because it smells juicy and zesty, bringing to mind the phrase “zest of life”, perfectly describes the feeling of youth.
Drinking Earl Grey for an extra citrusy touch.
Perfect! I thought of Aftelier Candide for those too but it’s too old, and it’s not a match for the blue of the youth paintings.
Nice scent and it is definitely orange 🍊
I got nuthin for the CP, but I got somethin for smellin good: SOTD is SHL 777 O Hira, mmmm…..
That’s all that matters!
No community points but I’m happy to be wearing Escada Casual Friday, so underrated: a big masculine spicy-woody floral (carnation, jasmine) on a vanilla base.
Excellent name for a perfume
Ooohh that sounds delightful.
Escada made some great stuff back in the day.
Another year older so wearing two birthday gifts from two close friends… Melograno now and Portrait of a Lady this evening.
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday! 🎂
You say it’s your birthday🎵
Many happy returns, enjoy your special day.
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday!
A very happy birthday to you cm8! And what great presents/friends.
Happy birthday Brigitte!
🥳 Happy birthday! Wishing you a happy and healthy year ahead. Nice 🎁 🎁!
Happy birthday. Do you still make perfume oil blends? I always enjoyed hearing about them.
Oh yes I do!! In fact I made a special birthday blend for the friend who gifted me Melograno. First a vanilla bean jojoba oil marinated for six months. To that I added sweet orange essential oil, neroli essential oil and lemongrass essential oil ( because she’s obsessed with lemongrass). I made her from that a solid perfume with beeswax put in a metal pillbox with dogs because she loves animals, a perfume cream by adding the oil to Alba Botanicals Unscented lotion, a rollerball perfume oil and an EDT spray with the oil in perfumers alcohol. I also made another friend of the same set but made an Italian rainbow cookie scent by combining sweet orange, jasmine, the vanilla blend and almond.
That all sounds wonderful!
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday! Hope you’re having a great day!
Happy Birthday!
Happy happy birthday!!
Thank you everyone!!!! I’m having a Marsala pizza to celebrate.
Happy Birthday!
The happiest of Birthdays Cm8!
Happy Birthday, cm8!
Chiming in late, but Happy Scented Birthday, cm8! 🎉🎂🥂
Happy birthday!! Mila sends puppy kisses.
Very late to your NST party but sending the happiest of birthday wishes!
I’m in OJ Frangipani, because it’s beautiful, and the weather doesn’t begin to match it. No particular CP planning was involved.
Spring report: Due to my dad’s health situation, I’ve been traveling back and forth between southern-ish Illinois and the Chicago suburbs. It’s a 4 hour drive, and it’s been fun to watch the different stages of spring unfold. The area my parents lives in (southern Illinois) is mostly past the daffodil blooming, and is well into tulips, crabapple and dogtree blooms. Lilacs are just coming on. It’s lovely. It’s an old town (1848), and there is a wonderful diversity of plant material. No Home Depot for miles, some yards are fairly sizable, and people are more likely to leave the old shrubs there to do their thing. Cruising through some of the older neighborhoods is a treat. Back in the Chicago area, the daffodils are doing their thing, and the lilacs are just starting to put on flower buds.
You smell great today!!
My tulips are pretty much done. My white bearded iris is blooming. The “plain jane” daffs are long gone, but my Gay Tabor daffs (plus one other double variety whose name I have forgotten) are still blooming up a storm — this fall, will try to find a good double narcissus that blooms even later, it’s so lovely to have them in the yard and as cut flowers.
Best wishes to your dad, hope he is doing ok.
Thanks for the spring report and best wishes to your dad.
Yes, and here in the northern Chicago area there’s lots of bright yellow as the forsythia is still in bloom and has been joined by lots of daffodils. With the cool weather the magnolias are hanging on to their lovely pink blossoms for a nice long while.l and the tulips are beginning to open. I love the beauty of southern Illinois, love to go camping in the Shawnee National Forest. Sending good wishes for your dad’s health.
Hoping your father’s health improves.
Your journey sounds beautiful.
Thanks for the good wishes for my dad!
Sending you all love, with gentle nudge to Keep up With Those Health Screens, folks! Consider it an act of love for yourself, and for the folks you love.
You smell so marvelous
Sending good vibes for you and your Dad! Remember to take care of yourself, too.
Right now I’m in a bit of Monserrat because springpansy mentioned it yesterday. What an oddball fragrance! But later I’ll switch to Le Dix to match the pretty lilac-pink background in today’s paintings. Happy Friday everyone!
Perfume house twins today! At least, for a little while.
In a spritz of Cartier’s Zeste de Soleil, the sunny-yellow-est perfume I have. Also have on a spritz of Invictus Victory, which is a lemony incense vanilla. Thought it would definitely go into the pass-along sample pile, but no.
I am in a big cloud of Pacifica French Lilac thanks to a very generous NSTer. I had recently finished my bottle and I am very happy to have it in my collection again.
Another sunny, but cold and very windy day! Counting the days for the summer days to arrive.
Busy morning at work today. I am on my way now to get the second booster and will end the day with a field visit. Grabbing soon another cup of coffee. So much needed today!
Happy Friday! ☕️
Dear PL, I hope all is well with you today. Thank you for giving us the update yesterday about the worker/labourer. Sending you peace and good wishes for the weekend, and I will keep him and his family in my thoughts, thanks to you.
Thank you, DolceVita! That is very kind of you. I also wish you a very peaceful and relaxing weekend! 🌻
Thinking of you and the preventable tragedy you witnessed. I hope your strong faith gives you all you need to navigate these times. It can lead you to lean on others, too.
And you smell divine. Pacifica is underrated.
Thank you, Annie! Looking forward to brighter and more peaceful times.
Sending hugs! 🌻
Hoping that yesterday’s mental health day soothed your soul after that horrible accident you witnessed 🤗 and that you have a peaceful weekend ahead. And you smell great! I ❤️ to wear that fragrance when my lilacs bloom to carry their scent with me everywhere I go – but mine are just budding so that’ll be a couple of weeks yet.
Thank you, Laila. The mental health yesterday helped a lot. I also wish you a niece and relaxing weekend. 🌹
Here lilacs are in bloom already. That is my favorite time of spring. I love to wear Pacifica French Lilac and Vilhelm A Lilac a Day. Do you have any other lilac scents that you love?
My very favorite lilac fragrance is Yves Rocher Pur Desir de Lilas, long d/c. They have a newer lilac scent but I’ve never tried it. Another oldie I love is Alfred Sung Sha, a lovely light spring floral with a predominant but soft lilac note. And Annie Oakley Morning Dew is another I enjoy when the lilacs bloom, it too has a nice lilac note.
Thank you! I am taking note to sample them!
I keep considering getting a bottle of the Pacifica Lilac body butter. Have you ever tried it? But I have a bunch of other body butters and scented lotions now, so I can’t justify getting it.
The body butter is very nice and the scent stays on skin for hours. It is as good as the perfume is. I also have so many other scented body butters that I am not planning to replace it once I am done with it.
Thanks! I’ve tried the Persian Rose and a couple of other scents of the Pacifica’s body butters, but not Lilac yet. Someday I might get to it. 😉
Tgif and I am so not motivated to do anything. I cleaned and I didn’t even feel like doing that. Commando atm but one perfume came to mind with the blue theme pics..Bucoliques de Provence L’Artisan Parfumeur. Sounds wonderful right now may put some on later. Reminds me I have meant to try Au Thé Bleu BVL..and just never got around to it. Seems interesting though. I got this candle and it smells like cotton candy..which I am normally not in to but..it smells yummy..and made my room have a nice, sugary aroma.
I wasn’t motivated today either, but managed to do 2 loads of dishes. So thankful for dishwashing machines!
Think I may be compliant with the CP today. SOTD is ELdO She Was An Anomaly.
Wishing Spring would hurry up. I want to get my flowers and ferns out.
I like your choice and think it fits quite nicely with the CP!
Thanks Calypso😊
Yes! Me too, so ready to get the flowers and tomatoes out.
We really need rain, but sounds like we may finally get some this weekend.
I wouldn’t mind seeing Spring stick around for a while, instead of jumping from Winter to Summer.
I’m wearing Diptyque Ofresia because Coumarin wore it yesterday. I guess this has been discontinued too? I always seem to try things too late. It’s vibe sort of goes with the colors in this week’s artwork, too, so I’ll claim a quarter of a CP point.
Hey 1/4 counts 😊
Wearing a flannel and the heavy fleece I’ve been wearing over my flannels all week. Chilly here! The fleece smells of a melange of Volutes edt and Anné Pliska, and now I’ve added DSH Chinchilla to the mix. So, I’d say I’m suitably scented for the cool weather we’re having.
The sun stayed out most of the day yesterday and we had nice leisurely hike to the Straight, waved “hello” to BC and noted all the changes since we were here last summer, including a door up on horses in the middle of a field..? Looks as if someone was inclined to refinish it and then got distracted. Also saw the same homeless man that we met last year, walking around in a long black coat, leather bush hat, and flip-flops. Wild flowers are starting to burst open and I got some good photos.
The river’s running quite a bit higher due to the spring melt. The rocks where the American Dippers were “dipping” last year are now completely underwater. And for anyone who cares, when I researched American Dippers last year, I found out they were the ONLY water bird that is also a songbird. (I may be repeating myself here.) They were delightfully round and plump with nondescript concrete colored plumage and a lovely voice. No sign of any otters yet, but we’re keeping our eyes peeled.
Happy Friday!
How is your knee these days? Glad you are hiking again. That’s interesting about the dippers.
The knee is much better thanks for asking. I think it’s mostly a bit weak at this point because I’ve haven’t been doing much lately. The hike was lovely! Through old growth forests and to the straight of Juan de Fuca. It’s like being in an ancient cathedral- everything is hushed with occasional bird calls. It’s probably very corny of me to say, but it is like walking through a holy place. I should clarify that dipper comment by saying they are the only song birds that are also water birds in North America…I’m sure other places in the world have such dual purpose birds, as well.
We have a duck that whistles. It’s a whio, or Blue Duck, and lives on fast flowing mountain streams.
https://www.doc.govt.nz/nature/native-animals/birds/birds-a-z/blue-duck-whio/
They are lovely! So sad to see so many animal species threatened with extinction…😢
I remember you speaking of the homeless man.
A while back, you sent me a generous decant of Bronze Goddess and I’ve been waiting to purchase. Years. Lol. I ordered the Eau Fraîche a few weeks ago and think of you every time.💜
Glad it persuaded you to go for the gusto of a FB! 🏆
📌 and BIG ❤
Waving back from across the Salish Sea!
👋🏼 *waving back to you!
Sounds so wonderful, happy Friday!
Cold and windy here on Vancouver Island as well. The weather is nicer in Montréal than here ironically! I miss it.
Hello everyone! Very relieved this week is over and I hope the month of May brings peace and hope and new growth (in every sense of the word). Wore SL Baptême du Feu today – again, I was weirdly keen on a dry perfume rather than the usual full/spicy SL drydown, so this turned out to be a good choice. I may also, erm, have bought a new set of tiny SL perfumes for travel – there are a few perfumes in it that I don’t have (like L’Orpheline and Fils de Joie) and the rest (like Fille de Berlin and Feminite du Bois) that I have treasured older bottles of, so it’s a way of testing the current line up, obtaining a few travel sizes, and seeing if I need to hoard some favourites…so hey! Perfume saves the day!
Enjoy you new set, hope your favorites are sill recognizable.
Thank you Aurora! It will certainly be interesting and yes, I hope it will help me to wear more perfume with less fear of running out of some favourites. But then again, there are always new perfumes to love, so perhaps I should concentrate more on discovery rather than loss…hmm, food for thought.
I think there is a strong element of nostalgia in the love of perfumes hence our fear and dislike of reformulation and discontinuation but yes, discovering new scents helps.
Yes! I appreciate nostalgia very much, but sometimes it can almost become overpowering, so re-thinking or resisting it feels necessary at times.
I am curious about Fils de Joie as I read it has a nice honey note. Sounds very tempting. Have a happy weekend. I think a focus on discovery, rather than loss, sounds good.
Thank you Kanuka, I will report back when I have a chance to rest it! Wishing you a happy weekend too.
I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts on the old favorites in your new SL travel set.
Thank you Jalapeno! When it arrives (online purchase so not sure of delivery time yet) I will do a lot of side-by-side testing and reporting on each one!
I am matching Childhood to AG Nuit Etoilée, for a walk in a deep, spooky pine forest.
Lately I have been eating a lot of fresh spinash, I should look up some recipes online to make them less monotonous.
https://nourishmagazine.co.nz/easy-palak-paneer/
We have lots of spinach in the garden and make palak paneer. I love it and it’s easy. You can find the paneer in local Indian food shops/ supermarkets
Thank you Kanuka, it must be delicious.
Nuit Etoilee is a great match for the first 2 paintings in the series!
Thank you Jalapeno, I thought so too but also I wanted to wear NE.
I used a decant that i had at work after biking, so not much choice. I sprayed Perles de Lalique and was quite happy with this scent. Now i wear L´Air de Rien after showering and a nice pasta dinner with spinach and broad beans with ricotta plus a glass of a good white burgundy.
Have a nice weekend, you all!
Oh, Lalique! I have never tried any, but my local department store is advertising the arrival of Soleil de Lalique (not a new perfume, but new locally, the one with the sun-ray bottle from 2019 I think?) so I hope to try this at some point. Your dinner sounds great and you are inspiring me to cycle more too. Hope your weekend is wonderful!
Your dinner sounds delicious!
I have a sample of your SOTD that I should pull out and try.
I find it fascinating that Hilda af Klint, like an earlier CP Emily Dickinson, kept more than a 1000 of her works secret during her lifetime. I wonder about the link between creative freedom and secrecy, and also wonder at all the “undiscovered” artists out there. I hope they lead fulfilled lives. Wearing Wander for the CP as it has a dreamy, organic vibe.
Outside it is pitch black but out to the east Venus and Jupiter are shining brightly. They are very close together and in line and clearly visible. Saturn is above them.
Have you ever heard of the Chicago artist/photographer Vivian Maier? She had a fascinating life and was by all reports very odd indeed. She amassed a huge assortment of photographs, many negatives never developed, generally regarded as quite brilliant. But she never exhibited and did not want them published. Indeed there’s sort of a scandal about how they came to be published and known. I recommend a very good book on her by Pamela Bannos. Some people (not her) have argued that the photographs never should have been published at all, in accord with her own wishes.
I saw the documentary about her a few years ago but will check out the book. Thanks. Hope you are doing well.
While the art in today’s cp didn’t speak to me, the colors eventually did- the bright orange of the ‘youth’ pictures (no’s. 3&4, which I’m interpreting here as late teens/early 20’s) called out to me and reminded me of a very happy time in my young adulthood. Born and raised in Chicago and not venturing far from there as I grew up, as a newlywed I became an Army wife and was suddenly transported for almost two years to a very rural area out of state. Although I have happy memories of that time, I dearly missed my urban life and was thrilled to eventually return to my beloved city and a new job in its bustling downtown. At the same time, I discovered Nina Ricci Bigarade, advertised as the sexy young French daytime scent. Its bright orange packaging, bitter orange and oakmoss notes, and aura of sophistication perfectly expressed who I was at that time, and though I’m decades older now, it still remains a favorite of mine and is my SOTD. When d/c fragrances first became available on the Internet, I bought a couple of bottles and am so glad I did as, if you can even find it, it’s prohibitively expensive now.
I was looking forward to going to our first White Sox game of the season tomorrow but the weather sounds not just horrible – rain all day – but comes with the severe threat of hail, strong winds and even tornadoes, so I’m hoping 🤞it will be postponed. Weather has been awful here but at least I got my window boxes and the spring vegetables finally planted this week, also hoping 🤞the seeds don’t wash away in the deluges predicted. Oh, well, thus is spring!
Wishing everyone a great weekend ahead!
I loved Nina in the little red apple bottle. I wore that for a long time many years ago.
Maybe your weather won’t be a terrible as predicted tomorrow? Otherwise, I hope everyone hunkers down and stays safe.
First I have to report that I’m 39 and have had creaky knees for years lol. Definitely makes me wish I’d been better at exercising and taking care of my joints in my 20s and early 30s.
I’m pairing Phaedon Rue de Lilas with paintings 1 and 2 on childhood. I think it fits with the flower motif plus lilacs are a standout flower from my childhood since we had a lilac bush (tree? bush? I feel like lilacs are said to be either a bush or a tree) in our backyard, in the shady corner by the house. It was kind of a creepy, dark corner since it was shady and had moist soil, but I’d still go hang out under there when I was little and could easily fit. Plus, lilacs are blooming in Seattle right now so it’s a perfect time for me to wear my lilac perfumes. 😀
Yep, I’m with you. I went in at 43 for an MRI and PT for a partially torn meniscus, and they all kept commenting on the arthritic crackle every time I bend my knees…sigh. Not sure what I could have done to change it; I’ve always been a runner. I think it runs in my family — all the men in my mom’s family have had knee replacements in their 50s.
Interesting difference btw Seattle and Vancouver — our lilacs are just forming blooms right now. I didn’t think we were that different, climate-wise. 🙂
That is interesting. I wonder how far behind yours will be.
I had creaky knees in my 20’s. I blew both of them out in college. Had rehab and PT for them twice, and I get around pretty well now.
I’m glad they don’t give you much trouble these days.
I was thinking mostly in terms of colors and ages for the CP, but then today while looking in my cabinet for something else I found Amouage Fate and it suddenly seemed like the perfect choice. I thought of it as a kind of complement to the entire project af Klint had of constructing a timeline of life divided into some of its key stages. Also her paintings strike me as quite systematic and controlled–yes there are some free flowery and fun forms in there, but they are still not truly flowing–nothing crosses over or is messy. It’s all very “tight.” That also made me feel that the hands of Fate are at work in the project as a whole.
Besides, Fate is a beautiful scent–I can’t say it is “always fun to wear” because it’s too heavy for being fun–but it’s always of interest and not bland. Many of the lighter springy-floral-citrus perfumes I was thinking of wearing do run the risk of seeming bland.
My physical therapist is due to come later this afternoon. She worked me to death on Wednesday and I didn’t do enough of my exercises yesterday but I just hurt too much! We have a nice sunny day but the heat and humidity are already creeping up to remind us all that the pleasures of Houston summer are just around the corner. 🙁
Love Fate! You smell so, so good!
You are one tough cookie. Props for doing all of the hard work to get yourself better, even when it hurts.
Texas. I would love to be there for the music scene.
Another Fate fan here, perfect choice for Hilma af Klint!
Her work does seem very controlled and contained which seems odd when some of the paintings are meant to flow straight from the unconscious, without thought to composition and form.
Good luck with therapy.
Amouage Fate is beautiful! I quickly thunked my sample of that.
Hope that your PT goes well today, and you aren’t flat on your back sore tomorrow.
Purchased the Silver Iris, Gail gets the 📌! And I got $20 off for waiting a day!
Being an idiot, I ordered a new Trefle Pur when Atelier started discontinuing in the States. However, I thought this was a Boucheron Iris that PL67 split. I haven’t even opened the perfume yet. And it was a lot more money then.
SOTD is Palo Santo, so far. Thinking it is an Amazing Grace kinda day.
Enjoy your new bottle! And glad you got a discount, too!
Thank you, Gail! 📌
So pleased you bought this! I treated myself to a little bottle last year after several years of indecision and it is such a lovely perfume – enjoy!
Thanks!
Indecision is the story of my life, lol.
I have a limited number of choices here so I am wearing Messe de Minuit. I don’t feel it matches any of the paintings, they are too colorful and Messe de Minuit is kind of granite-colored to me. Doing a few painting experiments this morning now that new floors are down.
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Hilma_af_Klint_-_1916_-_No_1_From_The_Parsifal_Series.jpg
Maybe this one ?
I’m wearing Miss Dior today, from a vintage pour bottle. I did have a spray version way back in my youth and high school days. I should decant some to an atomizer bottle and use it more regularly.
Happy Friday, everyone!
I love this stuff! I, too, have a pour bottle from vintage days and find that a little dab’ll do ya.
It’s really good! Yes, it’s certainly got some oomph!
Do you find you’re more likely to reach for it if you use an atomizer?
I’m probably less likely to spill and waste it! Plus it may bring out other notes if it’s sprayed vs dabbed. Might be a good test to try.
Plus I like to spray a cloud at times!
I would decant it. I have a couple of perfume bottles that I did that with.
I love me a Miss Dior.
At the start of the week, I’d planned to get deeply into the CP because I’d seen these paintings only a few months ago. But I got distracted by other things, and am only thinking about it this morning. The adult pictures all give me a sense of abstract flowers, so I’m thinking of Divine from Divine.
I’ve realised that I have more FBs than I thought! It’s not that I didn’t know that I had them, but I’d not put them on my list. I have discovered that Divine is another of those.
Lucky you, having a bottle of Divine!
In the last gasps of my Hiris travel decant — there seems to be quite an iris club today! Was thinking Hiris suites the Adulthood series.
Anniversary vacation is definitely over — I did a three-hour workshop, then finished a grant proposal. But at least Mr. Skal and I started the day with a leisurely five-mile walk, adding three more sites to our attempt to visit every plaque (there are 28) on the Galway Poetry Trail. We may not get to Yeats — he is on his own, at the far-distant racetrack — but since we’ve been to his gravesite and to Coole Park, where he spent much time, we feel that we’ve paid him proper respects.
I think your Yeats gravesite visit counts!
I’m beginning to think that Mr. Jalapeno has an aversion to an empty dishwasher with no dishes in it! He started making a loaf of bread in the breadmaker when I was emptying said dishwasher this afternoon. Oh well, the thought of a clean kitchen was a nice one.
SOTD = Bruno Fazzolari Unsettled, for the entire series. Hat tip to Sheri G and J B for planting this idea!
Hope you get the first warm slice!
I hope I have room, since it will be after dinner!
It’s a slightly sweet whole wheat bread, where the sweetener is blueberry honey. We have a bunch of varietal honeys in the house, thanks to a local-ish beekeeper down in MD. They ship nationwide, and go to some local Ren Faires, which is where we first came across their stuff.
Not affiliated with them, just very happy with the work their bees do! 🐝
I think I’d take a messy kitchen if it meant someone making some homemade bread! Hope it’s delish!
To his credit, Mr. Jalapeno did offer to load the dishwasher after he was done. And he wiped down the countertop where he had been busy.
The bread is still baking as I type. It smells delicious here! 🍞
It was clean for at least one second 🤣.
You smell great in Unsettled.
But I blinked and I missed it! 😉
The clean kitchen, that is. Unsettled is still keeping me company!
The honey, though! There’s a local honey seller around here with amazing flavors, too. Salted caramel, chai, yum!
I still wash dishes by hand. All my adult years whining about life without a dishwasher. Now that I have one, I don’t use it.
Weirdo.
Part of a college work-study job I had ages ago involved washing lots and lots of 25mL glass vials for the Organic Chemistry department. I quickly decided that if I had a dishwasher at home, I *would* use it!
I didn’t have that experience!
I’m a weirdo along with you!
Twin weirdos😊
Busy day and working tonight.
I’m a cp failure but smelling great in Bottega Veneta.
I paid $2.38 for a dozen eggs today ☹
Since it’s not going to be snowing for awhile I needed to complain about something else. Lol.
Grocery prices are insane right now. Well, the price of everything actually.
You are funny! I don’t even pay attention to prices anymore because I end up getting 2 dozen eggs at a pop from Costco.
You smell great in BV.
I have no idea how much eggs cost per dozen, since we get them the same way hajusuuri does: a la Costco. The price there hasn’t gone up enough to convince Mr. Jalapeno that he can do without. 🥚 But some other items there have!
… or the quantity is reduced so you think you’re paying the same but in reality, you end up going through the package much quicker than you used to.
I pay $6.99 a dozen…The cheapest are around $4 (cage birds) and free range are around $8 to $9
This I would notice!
I was bad yesterday and took a mental health break from work lol. I went in but by around 10:30 I was like, “nah, not today.” I have a ton of leave saved up and so I left. Came home, took a nap, walked the dog, had a beer, cooked dinner and read. It was glorious. I was in Paris Riviera.
Today I’m being much more productive and doing chores in 10CC. Happy Friday, all!
You smell great. I couldn’t wait to try Paris-Paris. Nordstrom doesn’t have it yet but I can wait.
Sometimes a mental health day is the exact opposite of bad.
SOTD = 4160Tuesdays The Waft from the Loft
Love it and I am with the CP. I decided to take all the works as a whole, view it from the lens of color and picked a perfume that reminds me of colors. I chose The Waft from the Loft for the suggestion of stained glass. The paired owl is carved and has negative space that looks like an unfilled stained glass frame!

On the booster, apparently Costco changed eligibility information to adjust it to match the CDC guidelines which says nothing about a J&J booster other than to say get either Pfizer or Moderna. I’ll wait.
Not sure yet but I may post freebies tomorrow. I can now send packages via PayPal’s ShipStation! I swear the option wasn’t there before but I couldn’t prove it.
Hey, we’re twins on taking the entire series for the CP! How cool!
Love it!
I haven’t used Shipstation yet but have been interested in checking the site. I use Pirate Ship and really like them..have had 0 issues and like supporting a smaller business:). And if I had a question they answered pretty promptly. I also told them a pirate joke and they thought it was funny. In chat..I said..”before I go..you want a joke?. “Sure!” he said. “What’s a pirate’s favorite pizza topping?” “Arrrghtichoke!” LOL. He lol’d
LOL-even the name! ShipStation is what PayPal switched to so I am all about the convenience.
You smell fantastic! I saw yesterday that Denmark is ending their vaccination campaign May 15. I guess the shots will still be available if you want them, but they are no longer going to be promoting it. I take it as a good sign that we are shifting from pandemic to endemic.
I heard that too! Good news is no longer required but bad news, it seems, if you want the shot, you have to “pay” for it.
Late to the party, but I’m wearing TRNP Bodhi Tree. Cold and windy here, thankfully the big rain passed us by. So anxious for the rain to stop and the temps to warm up!
I’m so with you on the temps. Any time it can warm up!
No perfume today just a healthy lathering of Brazilian bum bum cream from the cheery yellow container. I don’t think I have anything in my collection to layer over it (would love suggestions if you do) and I don’t think it needs it.
The artwork is lovely.
I can’t think of one thing to layer it with that wouldn’t turn it sickly sweet. Maybe TF Soliel Blanc? I think the cream is just fine on its own.
You’re right about most combos leaning sickly sweet. I’m trying it with Hermessence Vetiver tonka today as I don’t own TF. Not sure if I love the combo enough to repeat it but it does cut down on the sweet. The nuttiness seems to be a bit more pronounced.
I’ve never sniffed this. Can you describe? I love layering creams and fumes.
Neither lasted too long.
The Brazilian bum bum cream smells lightly tropical floral with nutty praline and a hint of custard like vanilla to me. Very sweet overall.
The Vetiver tonka has a bit of a green vegetal earthiness rounded out with vanilla roasted hazelnuts. Pretty masculine leaning but I like it as a stand alone in fall and winter.
When I layer the two together the earthy bitterness seems to tone down the saccharine sweet and the nutty scents seem to be more pronounced. There is one bitter note that seems a bit off, but it doesn’t seem to last and becomes a bit powdery? At least on my skin and to my nose… hope this helps.
