It's Tuesday, Dutch-American Friendship Day and Bicycle Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Guerlain Shalimar Ode à la Vanille. Tea at the moment is Numi Chinese Breakfast with a little nutmeg.
Reminder: on 4/22, wear a fragrance with a narcissus note, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Hybrid Smeraldina Porcelain Teapot from Seletti ("Taken from a collection of tableware pieces that celebrate ancient historic Western and Eastern ceramic production, 'Hybrid Smeraldina' is a teapot that combines complex decorations from the past into a contemporary aesthetic. Defined by two distinct patterns that each cover half of the bone china bowl, the piece can be combined with other items from the eclectic series for an exciting dining table setup") is $119 at Frank Bros.
On a cold spring morning, I’m in Anné Pliska. I think the perfumer’s brief was “Make me a copy of Calvin Klein Obsession, but sort of weird”. They sure hit the mark. It’s an amber not quite like any other.
Cold here too…looks like we went a similar route.
Good morning! Taking CP points for Jacomo Silences. I always get mainly galbanum from this one, with the ashtray note that chypres from the 70s have sometimes, but the note list is a whopper so I’m trying to see if I can discern something different. So far, no ?
Guessing the ashtray note is oakmoss?
I liked oakmoss tons after I quit smoking years ago..must be the ashtrayness of it:)
I’m a former smoker who’s all in for the ashtray note! You smell wonderful in Silences. I need to dig my bottle out.
I’m wearing Number One Intense from my Nicolai discovery set. This is a wearable tuberose for people who don’t appreciate tuberose.
Any fbw yet?
Good morning.
Sotd is Oud Satin Mood. Feels like a plush warm sweater, so comforting.
Currently drinking honey tea from TWG.
It is plush warm sweater weather here for sure.
Hello:) Testing Heretic Smudge. Patchouli bomb which I appreciate at first..then it became a bit savory and herbal. I was trying to figure it out but I guess it is sage. Which makes sense..duh..Smudge is the name of it.. ? Lol. Smells like sage, incense and patchouli. I don’t want to wear it but it’s kinda interesting. The sage also makes me think of chicken..lol. Sage chicken roasting over some charcoal. The woody notes are nice in it. Interesting. But smells too much like something I could get from the Natural Grocers incense department, which is much cheaper:)
Ok, you have talked me out of Heretic Smudge 😉
That’s funny, I adore Smudge because of the over the top sage-ness.
Love sage in food, but not sure about it as a perfume note.
Bright sunshine this morning, yay!!! Yesterday was so dull and dreary. Wearing 4160 Tuesdays Truth Beauty Freedom Love as an aspirational scent.
Worth aspiring to!
Good Morning?
SOTD is Montale Roses Elixir. I like it!
Yay!
I’m in a sample of DSHperfumes Le Sazerac. It’s pleasant and warming, but not FBW for me. I had a small bottle of Smell Bent January at one time which I thought captured that fresh narcissus smell along with a vanilla drydown, but I no longer have it and neither does smell bent (at least not on their website).
Thanks for the vacuum recs yesterday. If anyone else has a rec, feel free add it here. I am checking out all suggestions!
I’m the proud new owner of a Rainbow which is a very significant investment, but it’s got a warranty for 20 years (that means I’ve got to leave it to someone in my will because I won’t be vacuuming anything by then). I sort of got conned into it because nothing else has seemed to work with the extraordinary amount of cat fur that my multiple-kitty household produces. Rainbow works with water and so it supposedly picks up and cleans out all the fur and dander and so on. It’s a complicated machine and requires extra care and cleaning, but maybe worth considering. I had a high-level Miele supposedly for pet hair but it was constantly getting plugged up.
I have always meant to ask, exactly how many cats DO you have?
It’s a secret. 😉
The cats own one human, which is all that really matters.
My family had an old canister rainbow through all of my growing up. I think it was 30 years old when it was finally too expensive to repair. It was heavy, but definitely a great investment!
Thanks for the rec!
I have a Hoover Allergy ( bagged version). Outrageously noisy because of the power head that spins, but extremely powerful and fantastic for dog fur. Lots of settings and nozzles etc. and the vacuum head has a light so you can see under couches/ beds etc. But noisy and ugly. But very good ( better than my old Henry). The bags are quite small so maybe bagless is better.
Thanks!
I may be the odd person out, but I really dislike our Dyson. My old vacuum had a retractable cord, which was helpful. The Dyson has a cord that you have to completely unwind if you want to use any of the attachments on the hose. It’s heavy and not easy to carry along when you’re using the hose, which makes it hard to use on stairs (we have multiple sets of those). The hose split only a few years after we bought it, so I had to order a new one in, which took forever. It’s okay with cat hair, but not phenomenal, especially on furniture (we don’t have the pet-focused ball one, though). Let’s just say, I’m happy I have someone who comes in and vacuums with her own vacuum every couple of weeks.
That said, I haven’t found a great option to replace it. Seems retractable cords are not a thing any longer…and that’s my main complaint. (Why do I have to unwind the WHOLE cord to use it with attachments? SUCH a pain.)
Good to know, thanks!
Another cool, cloudy gloomy, boring day outside.
Wearing Acca Kappa Mimosa which is cheering me up today! A pretty, simple mimosa scent that puts a smile on my face.
On my second cup of coffee with a dash of cinnamon an two root beer Peeps!
Happy Tuesday! ☕️
I’m still looking for those coffee peeps!
They also released mocha caramel flavor. I have not seen it anywhere yet!
They have root beer peeps? Interesting. I hate peeps but love root beer and floats. Not sure if I would try it but sounds interesting. Lol peeps always remind me of that food eating contest guy..who downed tons of peeps in a few minutes. He has a Mr Beast Burger video too. Intense scarfing lol.
One of the best flavors so far!
Lol so I came across some Hot Tamales Peeps and bought some. Not bad:). Could be a little more Hot Tamale-y lol but first Peep I actually finished haha
Agree! I had higher “hot” expectations from the Hot Tamales flavor. A bit disappointed, but still good! Lol!
Mmmm, root beer!
Very tasty!
I read this as a dash of cinnamon on 2 root beer peeps! Pretty fancy!
Oh! Great idea! I may try that! Lol!
Grrr…I have to miss the after-Easter candy sales this year for various reasons. I might get out on Thursday – maybe something will be left!?
Not much, but still give it a try!
Wait, there are flavored peeps!?! I’m not a fan a regular peeps, so I guess I never paid attention to notice that there are variants. My easter candy shopping focuses on finding enough bags of cadbury mini eggs for Mr. Vee to have a full-year’s supply (they are his favorite).
Those Cadbury mini eggs are rather tasty! Would not mind seeing those in a dark chocolate version.
YES! Many flavors for many years already!
I would love to try root beer peeps!
?
I’ve mentioned various flavors of Peeps to my brother and he is not at all interested in those. He prefers his Peeps to be the Old School variety, thank you!
Different strokes for different folks, says I.
Sometimes all I crave is the Old School ones. I always grab some when purchasing the flavored ones!
I’m wearing carnal flower, so I smell great, but I think it’s responsible for my headache.
It’s not a great day; we woke up to a damp spot in our basement and a small crack in the wall. The house is less than 2 years old, so the repair will be covered under the structural warranty, but this sort of thing makes my mind run on all the possible problems we might be soon to encounter. Looks like I’ll need a more calming scent for this evening!
Yikes! Do you live near a body of water and/or have you had a wetter than normal season?
It’s been wet, and since it’s a new development, lawns are poorly established, so the storm water management plan probably requires revision. This is the part that gives me anxiety—the stuff external to my house that I can’t control!
Eecks! Good luck with this, I hope it’s all covered by the warranty and not as serious as you fear.
Sending you all the calming vibes!
I totally get why the crack in the wall and the damp spot are stressful in a 2 year old house. That said, ours is covered in growing and migrating cracks, crevices and proper holes (earthquakes and ground settling are a constant); our basement gets anywhere from one to four inches of water every time we have rain lasting more than a few hours; and our roof leaks in increasingly inconvenient places. My attitude to its failings and frailties waxes and wanes, like all long-lasting relationships! House accuses me of being fair-weather friend; I accuse it of using the excuse of old age when the chips are down!
Ha! This definitely made me laugh. Our last house frequently ruffled our feathers, and I’m sure this one will, too. I just wasn’t ready for it so soon.
Yikes. I hope you were able to choose a suitably calming scent for the evening!
We had a crack in our basement when our townhouse was fairly new. The repair was covered under warranty, and our basement has been dry as a bone since. I hope your repair goes as well!
SOTD is Le Temps d’Une Fete, for its very prominent narcissus note. It’s lovely and I don’t know why I don’t wear it more often. Wore Dryad yesterday afternoon and was surprised to see that it also has narcissus among its notes — who knew? Happy Humpday Eve, everyone.
Points all around! I have to think of something for Friday.
Oh, hmmm….I didn’t think I had anything for the CP, and now it turns out I do. I have never sniffed a narcissus note in Le Temps d’une Fête, but I’ll go with it and look harder? 🙂
The narcissus note in Le Temps is very prominent on me, but you know how perfume notes are … they can be coy on different skin. Good luck with the investigation!
*sigh* Why did it have to be discontinued? 🙁
Robin, I can’t help it but I find that teapot hideous!! I may enjoy avant-garde art but I do not like it when two distinct varieties of pottery are unexpectedly and awkwardly married.
I’m wearing Boy Smells Suede Pony from some Luckyscent samples I received yesterday. So far this is doing a very nice impersonation of a Band-Aid. I think there’s some others in the batch I prefer, including Chipmunk. Must give that another run. In a small dab yesterday it was a pleasant gourmand scent that definitely appealed more than the last one I’d tried (Cow). We’re already into the warm humid weather, ugh.
I’ve seen these before in person, and I like the idea but not the results.
I agree about the teapot! I can’t imagine what a whole serving set of these would look like together.
How are you doing, Calypso? I hope you are feeling stronger and in less pain now you are home.
Pretty well. I still use my walker and have some days with bad pain. Thanks for asking. Mainly I’m at the stage of being sick and tired of being slow and stuck at home.
I do not find it hideous but I do not want one! Some of the other items in the collection are just too upsetting, my brain could not handle it.

ZOMG, that plate is OOGLY! Yow! ??
SOTD = Guerlain Santal Pao Rosa
… because cazaubon wore it yesterday! Musky sandalwood rose and incense.
I have no objections to the ruling about the mask mandate. Personally, for as long as I am still wearing masks when I go to the grocery, I will continue to wear masks while commuting. I don’t know if NJ Transit was still requiring it but there were no special announcements and everyone was still masked as of my commute this morning.
Let’s not talk about whether we agree or disagree with the ruling! We’ve had a long run of no arguing 🙂
Fair warning, Robin! I wasn’t soliciting comments nor do I think you are implying that I was.
Nope, did not mean to imply that at all, we’re all good.
You smelled good today!
You smell great! 🙂
Back in SSS Equestrian for a very blowy day. ?
Condors? Or too blowy?
Much too blowy, and now I’m a few hundred miles away and it’s even windier! I’ve got my nose (of the van) pointed into it but still feels like Moby might be lifted off his shoes any minute! ??
No condors, sadly. They’re too smart to fly in this nonsense.
Next time!
Oh do tell if you see the condors!!!
Sorry, no condors today. ?
Windy day twins with you! 40mph gusts at times here.
Sotd is Diptyque Olene for the lovely narcissus and jasmine notes.
Oh perfect. I wonder if I still have any.
Wearing Deneuve today and I don’t care if it’s cold and snowing today. I keep hoping that spring will come and stay.
You and me both Dawn!
I hope it arrives for you soon!
I’m wearing 10 Corso Como for the first time in ages. The sprayer is a bit wonky, which is one of the reasons I don’t wear it more often. That said, it is nicely calming on this windy Tuesday.
You smell wonderful! I ought to pull out my decant.
Ooh, I thought you have a FB!
I used to, many years ago! But I split a lot of it and then ran out (oops), so only a decant now.
I’m on my third bottle after returning two due to wonky sprayer. My third one is still wonky, but I gave up trying to sort it. I sort of spray it, and then apply whatever else drips as well.
I should just decant it into a bottle with a stable sprayer, but I’m too lazy to put that on any of my to-do lists…..
We were wonky sprayer twins today!
Pretending it’s actually warm and not just sunny, in Heeley’s Menthe Fraiche.
I am accomplishing the same by refusing to go outside 😉
Bicycle day! Perfect; I biked to work today (as I do every day)(though I’ll make an exception for this Thursday, which is Picture Day, and for which I will for once try to have decent hair; conveniently, it is meant to rain on Thursday, so I’ll enjoy skipping out on a rainy bike ride).
I’m not into that hybrid teapot, but what do I know. I’m in The Beautiful Mind Series Vol. 2 – Precision and Grace. That’s a mouthful of a name for what is quite a meh scent. It smells like a perfume someone might wear just to wear perfume.
It is not that kind of Bicycle Day…it’s the date of the first recorded LSD trip.
But World Bicycle Day is coming up in June ??
Hahahaha. That’s what I get for not clicking on the link 🙂
Matters not at all…you can’t click on everything, right?
Wet outside this morning and I had a sudden craving for amber. So I’m sampling a few I re-discovered during my move. I have Etra Ambra on one arm, and L’Artisan l’Eau d’Ambre Extreme on the other. AND a dab of an unlabeled one, I think it might be the non-Extreme L’Artisan, it smells a touch soapy.
Who wins?
That export: a tsunami about to engulf some people in fishing boats? Oh well, better have a nice cup of tea. Not yet dawn and I’m listening to an owl ( a ruru / morepork) outside my window. I have been outside to look for it but not a chance so am making do with the more-pork, more-pork , more-pork call. Tonight I am off to the first screening from the film society since Covid interrupted the programme. Bergman, Smiles of a Summer Night. Hard seats as the screening is in a university lecture theatre but it should be fun. Wearing Silky Woods.
Teapot not export
Haha! Thanks for clarifying. I was about to go check for news about tsunamis!
Enjoy the movie, I have seen many Bergman films but not sure about this one, they are all good anyway.
I am always surprised to hear birds chatting in the dark–dusk or dawn. I too still wander out to see who is making all the fuss, but cannot usually spot the culprit in the shadows.
Did you ever see the film, The Big Year? I just looked it up to make sure I had the right name, and see that it was totally panned by everyone. I remember enjoying it! But my family tells me I have terrible taste in films. Maybe its one to play in the background while you are doing taxes or paying bills or something?!
https://www.audubon.org/news/the-big-year-according-birders
Just read this nice review from birdwatchers. I will try and find it. Hope you have a happy week!
I walk our dog each morning while the stars are still out. We go about a mile before hearing any birds, and then they slowly start saying hello to the day.
I absolutely love it.
I love lying awake early in the morning and listening to the birds chirping. You smell great!
That is one ugly teapot. It’s still cold and pouring rain here, so I am inside doing things to warm up. I made a beef stew and a date walnut sticky pudding. The lilac in the back yard has started to bloom, so today I am wearing Desarmant, the best lilac perfume I have found. Too bad they went out of business, I liked a lot from their line.
Date walnut sticky pudding! I want some!
(And looks like that’s the consensus on the teapot. At least nobody had to lust after it!)
I’m glad I got a bottle of Desarmant before they went out of business, it’s my favorite lilac scent too.
I agree that it’s the best lilac and am also glad I have a bottle
A day late to reply, but I will be sad when my Desarmant decant is gone. It is quite unique among lilac perfumes.
Finishing my cauliflower with some Indian spicy rice.
I wore PG Louanges Profanes today, it is still detectable but I added some vintage Morny Sandalwood. Morny is an old British brand, similar to Yardley, I believe these days they only make soap and only lavender and lotv perfumes.
We used to have Morny French fern when I was a kid. It was beautiful
Glad it triggered a nice memory for you, they still make French fern soap. Their sandalwood is good, it was a cheap thrill from eBay, happy I found it.
Hermessence Cedre Sambac
You smell great!
Good morning all! Mid- week already, a week that starts with a holiday on Monday always flies by. I’ve decided on PdN’s Maharanih Intense today, it’s spicy and citrusy, and seems right for a warm autumn day, which is what the forecast promises.
I suspect it is warmer there than here, Gaynor!
Scent of the day SJP Stash, via the body oil. A chilly day but sunny day and gardening could no longer wait so out I went. I tried to find things to do in the sunny parts of the yard! 😀 34F when I started but got up to 48 or so. I donned a sweatshirt over t-shirt layers and a wool hat and if I kept moving it was not too bad since there was no breeze. So many lovely bird songs, and my daffodils are at the peak.
A breeze would definitely make doing outdoor tasks more uncomfortable!
All my double daffodils are finally in full bloom. Most of the singles have been & gone.
That’s an odd looking teapot. ?
Another chilly day for me. Also some brief rain showers this afternoon, which made a quick walk to the mailbox even quicker. ?☔ Finally finished washing the last of the dirty Easter dinner dishes today, whew!
I should get out with the dandelion removal tool in the next day or so before the ones I saw in the grass start to flower.
SOTD = more of the Hypnotic Poison Eau Sensuelle.
It seems like Spring is avoiding us both. I am starting to take it personally!
It’s supposed to be 80 here by the end of the week. Not sure I want that, either! Too soon for summer.
I’ve got nothing for this CP, despite loving daffodils in general. (That said, apparently I have one perfume, I just found out — Le Temps d’une Fête.) In Fat Electrician today, for no reason other than it was at the top of the drawer.
I have daffodils in the back yard, and I’m loving how long they are lasting.
I was so, so hopeful yesterday that we’d get closer to the end of our reno. Then the warranty repair person showed up and blamed the refrigerator rattle on our installer, who continues to swear up and down that it’s the compressor and the fridge is dead level, although the warranty repair person says it has to be the levelling. (I’m inclined to believe the installer, FWIW.) So we’re stuck with a rattling fridge for another…month? two? Until he gets the part to fix the other problem and comes back? (Judging from having a part ordered in to fix our washer, it may never arrive.) In two weeks, we’ll be a year into a kitchen reno.
But…it’s not raining. And I have daffodils in my back yard. And my kid is back to school after a 4.5-day weekend. So I’ll take that!
I’m sorry about the fridge. But hooray for daffodils!
Yuck for the renovation from Hades!
Did you check it yourself with a level? Of course the warranty repair person will deny it’s a mechanical fault… until the warranty runs out and he can charge you for an expensive repair. Ask me how I know. ;-). Good luck!!
Wearing the wonderful Au Dela Narcisse de Montagne for day two of narcissus. The sun is out and has been most of the day, along with alternating gray clouds and blue skies. Fingers crossed so hard that no rain will come in the 5pm hour so I can take a walk after work.
Fingers crossed for no rain!
Plus a song
https://youtu.be/3qVPNONdF58
Love that song, and I watched the video yesterday evening when I first saw your comment. Rain stayed away all afternoon and evening and I had a lovely walk!
We had only a small bit of rain today too, yay!
I wore Kelly Caleche today, and it was just lovely.
Got terrible news at the end of the day that one of my students died unexpectedly. Tomorrow will be a very hard day, because all the other students will have heard and need to begin processing. Still debating if I should wear perfume at all or if I should wear something comforting in case students need hugs.
I’m sorry sistine.
So very sorry to hear about this sistine. Re: perfume or not, do what your heart tells you to tomorrow.
I’m so sorry. Maybe just wear a little bit of vanilla lotion?
I sm sorry, Sistine!
Oh no, that’s awful. My condolences to all of you…
I started out the day in Alien Liquor. The sprayer has almost quit working so I just don’t wear it much anymore. This evening I put on a spray of Givenchy Hot Couture from a tester. I used to wear it when it came out. I didn’t even know I was missing it until now. I still really like it.
I’m trying to get my daughter in a summer program and so far I have come across quite a few road blocks. I’m getting frustrated.
Hang in there lillyjo! Feel free to use a few cuss words, if that helps.
So far my word of the week has been “stupid” I am working my way up to cussing. Lol
Crossing fingers you can be successful soon!
Sampling Porter Sa Peau which is project compliant and pretty but doesn’t move me
