It’s Tuesday, Licorice Day and the International Day of Human Space Flight. Birthdays: Beverly Cleary, Herbie Hancock, David Letterman, David Cassidy. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Guerlain Anisia Bella. Tea at the moment is Upton Season's Pick Assam GFOP Organic, with a splash of milk and nutmeg.
Reminder: 4/15 is Tax Day in the US. Pick your poison: wear the fragrance (presumably from a sample) you'd buy if you had an unexpected windfall, or wear a cheap thrill.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I love the name of your fragrance today Robin.
Tea is blue earl grey by MF
I am suppose to be volunteering at the local library today so my SOTD will be No19 Poudre , because it’s soft and is close to the skin and I don’t want to bother the patrons reading. We will see if I am needed.
If anyone loves the library and needs a laugh ?:

I forgot all about that episode, very funny!
Ha!? I had a feeling it was going to be Seinfeld, I miss that show.
Have a great day!
Thanks for the laugh!
Still hilarious!?
Thanks for the laugh!
His soliloquy is amazing!
I love how Jerry can hardly keep a straight face!
That’s what I was noticing – Jerry almost broke character! Try to go easy on miscreants, LTSG! 😀
That was the funniest part of all to me.
OMG I forgot it too. That guy is brilliant…had to go look him up, Philip Baker Hall.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_Baker_Hall
SL Rousse, soft warm cinnamon goodness.
Sure is. You smell great today pyramus.
I’m in VCA Bois d’Iris. Tea is TJ’s chai, enjoying the sun coming in my window.?
I slept like a rock last night! Sunday night was horrible. Our neighbors got a new puppy over the weekend and it’s so cute. Unfortunately our houses are so close together on my bedroom side of the house that I was woken by him crying and barking twice in the middle of the night, which was not so cute.? I was dog tired yesterday. Lol (couldn’t resist that one?)
Ha! at dog tired ? Our neighbor’s dog howls in this unearthly way and he drives me crazy, sometimes I howl back at him lol.
BdI, chai, sunshine, and a good night’s sleep sounds like a venn diagram of paradise. 🙂 I hope your neighbor’s puppy settles in to his new digs soon.
I’ve got some sun too!
?
One of my neighbors has a dog that barks at almost anything and everything. I feel your pain!
I’ll wear Black Vines for licorice day. It’s a beautiful sunny spring morning here and I still don’t feel like doing anything but sleeping. Didn’t people drink a spring tonic in times past? My daily 2 cups of coffee just aren’t cutting it lately. Maybe I have spring fever, whatever that means, or maybe it’s just allergies.
I had never heard of a spring tonic but you are right
https://www.almanac.com/spring-tonics
https://blogs.loc.gov/folklife/2016/03/spring-tonics/
That was a fun read, Robin (first link) with neat pictures. Gosh I used to love finding those little round bright red luscious wild strawberries. Nothing like them. I used to love rhubarb too, and my grandma would make sassafras tea. Very yummy, a bit like root beer.
Thanks for these articles, very interesting! I know my grandmother made everyone cut dandelion greens in the spring. They were very bitter.
I’m wearing The Absinthe Drinkers for licorice day and the cp.
Perfect!
?
I got myself a small 5 ml of this and am wondering if I should invest in something bigger while there’s still time! It is so delightful – retro and classy but also a bit cheeky. Wish the staying power was better – how is it on you?
I only got a sample, and my usual m.o. would be to move up to a decant but yeah… limited edition. I agree, it really is delightful and these days I very rarely consider a full bottle of anything. The staying power is decent on me – around 4 to 6 hours which works well for me. Another plus is that I find that the dry-down is lovely as well – no white musk, abrasive wood or plodding base notes.
I’m wearing the first sample from a new discovery set – Dear Polly. This is decant worthy and right up my alley.
I don’t think I tried that one but I do like Vilhelm 🙂
I have a travel spray!
Good morning!
Sotd for licorice day is Hermes Brin de Reglisse. Haven’t worn this in a really long time!
Currently drinking lavender Earl Grey to match.
If I had known it was Licorice Day I would have worn Brin de Reglisse, too, but it’s packed away. Maybe next year.
It’s chilly and gusty out..perfect for warm licorice notes. The wind is so cold lol. Commando after doing a bit of sampling yesterday. Just wanting a hot tea and to stay away from that wind lol. I was sniffing a perfume with a strong violet note..anyone get really earthy notes from violet? For example, I remember Misia being quite earthy to me with the violet note. Other times violet doesn’t seem as earthy.
You are reminding me of Misia. I think I have a sample somewhere…
Very dark and dreary here. I was out pulling weeds last night but it looks like we’re going to get another soaking. So I guess I will concentrate on my indoor weeding project, getting a box ready to go to the thrift shop. Spring cleaning and all that. Wearing Gourmand Coquin in honor of a perfume friend who passed away yesterday after a long battle with cancer.
I’m sorry for your loss cazaubon.
I’m so sorry. Lovely tribute to your friend which I’m sure will be appreciated!
I’m so sorry for your loss. Yes, dark day here, too, with intermittent hail.
very sad to hear it, losing friends is hard.
So sorry you lost a friend.
so sorry!
I’m sorry you lost a good friend, cazaubon.
Oh no, so sorry.
My condolences, cazaubon.
So sorry, Cazaubon. Sending hugs.
Sorry for your loss, cazaubon.
My condolences about your friend’s passing, cazaubon. I’m sorry.
So sorry for your loss, Cazaubon. I hope the scent and the weeding are therapeutic.
I’m so sorry for your loss, cazaubon. Hugs to you.
Sorry about your friend, cazaubam, my condolences.
Ice on the bird bath this morning, we are back to winter, brrr. SOTD is TF London, smoky and warming.
I’m sure someone has pointed out that tax day in the US is actually Monday the 18th this year….
HA, nobody has pointed it out but I am ok with it! We don’t do projects on Mondays.
Oh wow you just saved my life! Thank you so much! Thanks, Pixel!
Thank you for mentioning that! My husband does our taxes, but I thought we were cutting it a lot closer.
Friday is a holiday in some circles.
It is Emancipation Day in DC…I did not know!
Two more from the Carthusia samples today – Terra Mia and Tuberosa. TM opened with lots of honey! Also getting coffee beans, hazelnut cream, some orange flower and some candy floss. From the Tuberosa, I get sweet tuberose, rose, plum, and a ghost waft of Parma Violets. In my hometown, there was a gift shop called the Snow Goose that carried all sorts of scented soaps, lotions, etc. (definitely Crabtree & Evelyn, and others that I don’t remember). It also carried the Mme Alexander Storybook Dolls and it was a BIG! DEAL! as a kid when I got to pick one out for Christmas or my birthday. Anyway, Tuberosa smells like the Snow Goose, so it is giving me happy flashes of nostalgia.
Tea is chocolate coconut black tea from Clippership. The weather the past few days seems to be either bright sunshine or downpours. I guess that’s April in NJ.
What a great memory from a perfume! I had never heard of those dolls but they are still in business.
They were carried at either Woodies or Garfinkels. I went to the 7 Corners Shopping Center in Falls Church, and those were the anchor stores at either end.
They were both in Montgomery Mall too 🙂
Your description of Terra Mia is making me hungry! ? I’d love that as a dessert.
Oh! I had a similar gift shop near my childhood home that carried a variety of soaps and lotions, loose potpourri and fancy sachets and a variety of trinkets. They had Crabtree and Evelyn, Yardley and Claire Burke among others. I still remember that smell! I too got Madame Alexander dolls for birthdays or Christmas and it certainly was a BIG! DEAL! I remember their exact smell too. I always wanted to smell CBIHP’s Doll’s Head for that reason. Thanks for sparking such joyful memories, Vee!
Chocolate coconut tea? Sounds so yummy ?
In Capsule Parfums Legion in honor of Licorice Day. I love licorice!
So do I 🙂
I can finally spray lavishly in Honore des Pres I Love les Carottes. After many years trying to get a bottle, a partial one suddendly popped up on Ebay last week. I received it yesterday and I am happily enjoying it today! ?
On my third cup of coffee and ready to get out of work for the day to decompress after we finally submitted one of our projects early this morning. I will grab a sandwich, go the park for a walk and head home to chill out for the rest of the day.
Happy Tuesday, everyone! ?
Enjoy the rest of the day!??
Thank you, Lillyjo! ?
That’s so great that you scored a bottle! I hope the rest of the day was relaxing!
Thank you, Gail! It has been a nice and peaceful day so far.
Oh hooray!! Wear it in good health.
I will! So happy and excited about it!
You smell so good!
Thank you, Allo!
W00t w00t w00t w00t! You nabbed one of your perfume unicorns! ?
One of my best unicorns for sure! ?
Yay for perfume unicorns and persistence!
?
I lost the battle of weather appropriate attire to my daughter this morning. It was 35 degrees and she put on her Jean shorts. The bus came and I let her go. It’s warmed up to 60 now.. but still I don’t like it.
Because of her disability, people( ok.. the schools) tend to put a different set of expectations on her and me compared to a regular type teenager. I don’t need them thinking I don’t care enough to keep her from freezing. Ugh.
Anyway.. my sotd is Ilio hair mist since I had a Doctor appointment this morning. I sprayed my hair and my wrists.
I worked at a university for a long time and the kids used to wear shorts year-round. Even in the snow. What can you do? Dressing appropriately for the weather happens when you get old enough for social conventions and personal discomfort to matter to you. You are a good mom, Lillyjo.
It means a lot to hear that. Thank you so much.
Convincing a kid…any kid…to wear weather-appropriate clothing is a battle I think everyone eventually gives up on. My kid refuses to wear a raincoat when it’s raining and refuses to take off her puffy winter jacket when it’s warm out. Most days, it’s not worth the battle anymore, especially now that she’s just about a teen.
I’m like your daughter, I will wear my winter coat until the last possible minute! Lol.
This reminds me of myself as a teen, I say it’s good training to let her make mistakes.
I saw this and thought of you. Since I’m not a parent, I have no frame of reference, but I imagine I’d always be doubting myself. No one is perfect, not even a parent with the best of intentions and heart full of love.

I remember arguing with my Mom about miniskirts back in my teens and early 20’s. I loved them… she most definitely did not!
Let your daughter wear what she wants every so often. It doesn’t make you a bad Mom. Just very human.
When my youngest sister was in college and we went to visit her in wintertime, it was terrifying to see her and many of the students wearing shorts and walking on flip flops outside, even after a snow storm. It was useless to raise our concerns to her, she never paid attention to us in that regard.
One of my nephews wore (and still does) longish basketball shorts, T-shirts with the label cut out and a rain jacket, every day, all day, regardless of the weather.
I am scentless today, everything here is covered in dust and despite a shower I feel gritty. Adding perfume would make me feel worse, I think.
Hope those floors are going to be done soon foxbins!
Wearing Odalisque which was a blind buy. I remember just ordering at least 15 of those lovely 30 ml bottles of Parfum de Nicolaï in I think 2008, none of which I had actually sniffed.
Sometimes it pays to be brave (or stupid), it was one of my best buys ever and de Nicolaï quickly became one of my favourite houses.
Odalisque has taken its time to grow on me, but these days I totally love it. Such a wonderful salty lily.
Oh and tea is Jardin du Luxembourg by Damman Frères. One of my favourites of theirs.
That was VERY brave!
My Sephora package arrived today before I left for work. Didn’t get a chance to open it yet. My folks booked a trip for later this month for a week in California and I made plans for how many candles I will be using. Wearing no 5 edp today.
Yay for packages. Mine rain-soaked one was Sephora bit it was packed well so there was no damage whatsoever!
Today i finally biked to work again, 5C in the morning, but is was warm and sunny on the way back. I have some decants at work, so Pour la Belle is, what i chose.
Sadly i am not very fit at the start of the biking season, so tomorrow will be a rest day, maybe i try again on thursday.
I have not had my bike out yet this year, was thinking this weekend…
I think I’m CP-compliant with Lyric, which I’d buy if I ever got a windfall. I finally finished my taxes yesterday and I have a refund, but I still find that the tax filing software is basically impossible for those of us outside the US, so I have to mail it in. I figure I’ll get my refund sometime in 2025.
Aw, hope it will come soon!
Well, I blinked and then spring happened. Suddenly, the trees are all leafy and green, flowering trees and bushes are blooming and shouting their joy despite the (imo) sad state of the world, which will probably never change, so I really need to get over it. I guess I should be more plantlike and and let my flowers bloom and to hell with the world…
In support of spring, I’m in Au Dela Narcisse because it’s one of the few florals that has my undying love and abides in the whole small section of my floral hating heart. It’s only about a quarter of my right atria, but ADN takes up the entire space.?
We have a list of things to accomplish before lift off, and I’m betting I won’t get them all done. Our first stop is going to be Vermillion Cliffs. It’s been on my list forever and I’m excited! Has anyone ever been? I’m just planning to arrive early and just overnight there, but still looking forward to it. ?
I can’t remember, where is the next assignment?
Also when you leave one hospital do they get a replacement?
I’m headed in a round about fashion to Washington. I have exactly one month to get to the hospital for the first paid shift. ?
As for as a replacement here, I doubt it. This is my third winter at this facility, and they have been double occupying rooms designed for single patients (very challenging!) until a couple weeks ago, with several pop-up ICU’s. Now the census is back to “normal”, they are on a massive hiring streak because 75% of the previous staff left when a huge hospital organization took over last year and made big changes to benefits, pay scale, etc… Also, no more Covid moola from the Feds. Also, no more Covid testing of admitted patients for the same reason. Tons of new grads being hired, probably making a pittance and thrown in without proper orientation and internship. Oh well, not my problem, but I feel bad for the new nurses. In talking with a couple of the Young Ones this past week, many are so discouraged and lost they’re already looking for and finding new options besides bedside nursing. ??♀️
Nursing is a calling and it is indeed sad when the passion gets snuffed.
You smell wonderful! I love it so, and would never have gotten it if not for the NST Swapmeet!!!
Thank you! That may be the way I ended up crossing paths with this one, too. I would never have voluntarily bought it because I’m a floralphobe. But just when I think I know my perfume preferences, along comes ADN and throws me topsy-turvy! ?
Au Dela Narcisse is freaking gorgeous. I can understand why even a floral-hater would fall head over heels for it.
It is so gorgeous! Makes me feel like a 1950’s Glamour Girl, which I most definitely am not!
I can’t figure out how I’ve never been to Vermillion Cliffs…have been all around it but somehow never right there. It must be stunning, I am officially jealous.
I’m celebrating the day with Reglisse Noire, by 1000 Flowers. Also getting a boat load of tiny tasks done, which were left over from yesterday. Yesterday was an entire day of high winds here in the desert, up to 60 MPH — dust clouds everywhere, crazy house noises, falling branches — and I didn’t get much done. I’ve become very sensitive to noise over the past few years, and I find that it really affects my ability to concentrate.
Thankfully, today is calmer, and I smell great.
Not a fan of high wind, either.
Wearing Ormonde Jayne Frangipani from a sample. Reminds me of a lighter, more floral, less coconut suntan Bronze Goddess. I like it but it makes me want to get my summer scents out of storage and into rotation so I can get that Bronze Goddess back in my life!
Bronze Goddess is so great! I do love Frangipani too.
SotD Aura edp. So surprised; in today’s cool, damp weather, it seems to have faded away. A Mugler that does not last all day? Maybe my nose is sleepy today or something.
Wow, yeah, that one does not fade away on me.
17C blue sky, white clouds again, so I’m slowly bringing spring/summer bottles inside from the balcony chest, and I picked Infusion de Mandarine and when it faded I switched to Acqua di Parma Profumo, I don’t see it on AdP website, it’s a resinous chypre.
Gorgeous weather twins today! ??? But I started off with rain showers this morning. Still needing the moisture here, so I wasn’t horribly grumpy about that.
Well Ugh, I had a bad experience with one of yesterday’s samples of patchouli from my Luckyscent packet, the Maison Crivelli Patchouli Magnetik. I didn’t like it much when it went on and then my wrist just kept smelling awful all evening even though I tried to scrub it off and put something else on. I eventually realized the problem–it smelled like Angel, which I happen to detest. And it gets worse–even though it’s just a dabber not a sprayer, I got some on my Apple braided watchband and kept smelling it all morning today until I saw the problem. Now I’m going to have to wash this watchband (it says to use vinegar and water and dab on carefully with a ball of cotton, then let it air dry). That gave me an excuse to go on Amazon and buy three new fun watch bands (one bright red, one white, and one sparkly black). Today’s samples are neither so alarming nor as thrilling as Raw Gold was the other day–the clear winner out of this packet. I have on my left wrist Obvious Un Patchouli and on my right wrist Chabaud Patchouli 1973. Neither is striking, though I like the dryness of the Chabaud. My top patchoulis will now include the Raw Gold plus my other favorites of Borneo, Coromandel, and (very top) Comme des Garcons Luxe Patchouli–the dark furry kind, rawwrrr!
On another note (so to speak), I also got a sample of Cow in this latest order, and am not thrilled by it. In fact I didn’t like it nor did I find it peaceable and innocuous like said animal. The dry down is fine but the opening green notes are very strident and sharp to my nose in that piercing way that I just can’t get past. It says it has opening notes of grass and green apple–whatever that green apple is, I suspect, is the villain here. One less perfume to lem for (or is it lemm?).
I’m with you on detesting those sharp piercing notes. I like my perfume round and fat, like a pudgy baby with arm and leg rolls! ?
Have you ever tried Patchouli from Reminiscence? It’s probably my favorite patch perfume now.
No, but now I will look for it! Always glad to try another one! Thanks for the recommendation.
Definitely not a neutered patchouli!
*makes note*
That’s a good one. I think I liked the Elixir version.
I wasn’t a fan of Cow either the green plus white musky didn’t jam with me. Cute packaging though.
Going classic this morning with Vol de Nuit.
Smelling great!
Beautiful!
R.I.P Gilbert Gottfried.
All my funny guys are leaving me.
What? Seriously??
Thank you for all the birthday wishes yesterday! They helped make for a really good day. I’m keeping the birthday theme going by wearing Annabel’s Birthday Cake by Marissa Zappas.
My partner came through with a really cool gift. I mentioned a couple times recently that I wanted to learn about mushroom identification and foraging. So his gift was for us to learn about all this from a local mushroom expert! We’ll go to this guy’s house for a private session and will get to check out his mushroom lab where he grows them. He also has a couple of friendly cats that I’m hoping I’ll get to meet. ?
How cool! Please, let us know how your mushroom foraging session goes! ?
I definitely will. It doesn’t sound like we’ll actually forage during this event, just receive some education. But I’ll want to forage soon after learning about it!
Ooh, mushrooms and cats, how lovely! It’s not the same thing, but last year (another one of those Covid activities) I bought a mushroom growing kit and found it fun and rewarding. Mine was portobellos and once they began growing, Wow!–it was mind-boggling. It’s funny because my Facebook memories today turned up a picture of a mushroom Stroganoff recipe I had made with them last year! You can get the kits for other kinds of mushrooms too. When I was a kid in Michigan we went morel hunting in the spring, and I would love to do that again. Enjoy!
Oh, I remember you doing that! I thought it was really cool. We may want to grow some ourselves after learning about it.
How interesting! Enjoy! Please, share your experience with us!
I will! We don’t go learn about it until May 2, but I’ll tell y’all all about it.
Belated Happy Birthday! Your gift is very cool!
Thanks, Holly!
So many great childhood memories linked to Beverly Cleary’s books. ??
A bright and sunny day here again. Looks like my forecast for the next 7 days has greatly improved from yesterday; the sun has decided to stick around for a bit after all. Still plenty of rain on the docket, too.
SOTD = again in Opium Eau d’Orient Orchidee De Chine EdT. My bottle has moved up to “Desert Island” status. So happy I took a chance with this blind buy!
Desert Island is a pretty serious commitment. Did you remove anything from the Island?
My Desert Island list is actually rather small, unlike The Sample Stash!
Wait! What else is on it?
Keep in mind that it is an ever-evolving list. ? However as of today it has:
Opium Eau d’Orient Orchidee De Chine EdT
Samsara EdT and EdP, red bottle versions
AG Encens Flamboyant
Chanel No. 5 L’Eau
Bottega Veneta
Reminiscence Patchouli
SSS Incense Pure
SSS Nostalgie
Vintage Ivoire de Balmain
Yes, tell all!
Nice list!
I know there are a couple more things that ought to be on that list, like Guerlain Terracotta. And maybe the leather version of Alien.
Ooooo Desert Island status is quite good! Off to look up your fragrance…
One of the best perfume flankers I have come across.
Ramona Quimby! That’s some serious stuff being awarded desert island status!
I could not believe how GOOD my SOTD was earlier today! I was well and truly amazed by the wafting.
I loved Ramona 🙂
Late to the party but will splash on some 1000 Flowers Reglisse Noire in honor of Licorice Day. Back from our Utah/Colorado vacation and so tired today. Lots of work to catch up on… more tomorrow about my dshperfumes foray.
Looking forward to your recap!
Ditto!
Scent twins!
Welcome home! I can’t wait to hear your fragrant and other stories 🙂
No CP points for me today — I’m wearing Parfums de Nicolai’s Musc Intense, which I’ve already bought but which wasn’t cheap! It is a thrill though — unexpectedly compelling though it is soft and cuddly. It lasts a good long time on my skin, too.
Her prices are not terrible though!
Well, if I’d known it was licorice day, I’d have put on Lolita Lempicka. But I think I’ll do in Iris Torrefie. Waiting to see how the weather turns out tonight. We’re supposed to have some pretty bad storms. Hoping not to have to put the tornado shelter to use.
Yikes! I hope that you won’t have to use that tornado shelter either!
Fingers crossed you won’t have to use the tornado shelter! Let us know how you’re doing when you get a chance!
Hope they passed you by Sapphire!!
Oh, Robin – before I forget – that knitted home made tea cup cozy in today’s picture is the bee’s knees! I like to knit (and sometimes crochet), and I think my tea-drinking family members would get a kick out of that!
If you make one, be sure it’s stretchy! I bought a coffee mug with a cozy on it, took off the cozy to wash the cup, and couldn’t get it back on again.
Do look at her pictures, she has made lots of different versions!
SOTD = Papillon Angelique
Iris week(s)…
It’s so beautiful. Shape-shifting powdery and floral iris!

Horrible stuff in Brooklyn…
Is Mercury in retrograde or maybe I am just cranky? Case in point:
– a skinny-mini rolling a suitcase that was almost as large as her slow-walking because she couldn’t NOT read what is on her phone. Get out of my way. I felt like ? someone.
– restroom – we have a functional one but the sinks are ridiculous and splash all over. There is a smallish room before the restroom proper with a bench seat which most people use to hold their belongings. This woman decided to bring in her bag and her coat and spread it across the sink area, rendering 3 out of 6 sinks useless. I should have used the one I usually use and let the water splash where it wanted to. Grrrrr.
Tomorrow will be a better day!
Mercury’s next retrograde starts on May 10. The way things have been lately, though, it was a reasonable question.
And GGGGGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR on having to deal with the Entitled and Clueless! ?
I wore a cheap thrill today, but not from a sample. Esprit d’Oscar on one side, then I found my vintage Oscar and sprayed the other wrist. Vintage clearly wins that competition; I can still smell it’s depth.
I do not really know Oscar, but anything vintage with sandalwood and/or real ambergris or civet…sort of astonishing, like nothing in modern perfumery can match it.
