And before you know it, it's Monday again. It's also National Black Forest Cake Day, plus we have a few birthdays: Maxim Gorky, Mario Vargas Llosa, Lady Gaga. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Hermès Vetiver Tonka.
Reminder: on 4/1 we'll celebrate April Fools Day...wear your most-fun-ever perfume. (This is a repeat from 2016.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Egyptian Goddess perfume oil, left over from yesterday evening. A pleasant, undemanding scent that fits anywhere.
It’s been very warm here the last couple of days, about 79*F. Thankfully, we have a wind advisory today and behind that breeze is (much) cooler temperatures.
The snakes are already awake, though. I don’t dare let T-Rex off lead or anywhere near brush. Those rattlers scare the beejesus out of me. Well, they scare my POCKETBOOK because the antivenin is thousands of dollars!
Mind how you go. ? TSS-sss-tss!
?
It’s been ridiculously cold here for late March…we are expecting a high of 33. I would almost switch with you, but for the snakes.
Yeah, the snakes are a deal breaker for me too. ?
Mother nature is no joke ?
The feels like was 11 this morning
I am in Byredo slow dance for the community project today. And also inspired by the discussion on lipsticks over the weekend I am in Casablanca by Tom Ford
Now you’re inspiring me to check out Tom Ford! I bought a new Lancôme at the weekend and have just applied it – shocking pink in Rose Lancôme 388, in the revamped Drama Matte range (very cool black and gold packaging which is why I bought yet another pink lipstick). I have tested Rose de Chine a few times and want to try it again, so will look at the lipsticks too the next chance I get ?
How do you feel about Lancôme skin care. I have been a loyal Estée Lauder Advanced night repair user but I’m thinking I may want to switch it up and try Lancôme genefique. How is the The lipstick from this brand? Is it hydrating?
Oh I think EL is definitely good and have used it a lot, but I have only tried Genefique from magazine samples so not really sure about it. The ingredients look okay though from what I remember from the samples, and it certainly was comfortable to use. The lipstick is excellent and I find it very comfortable, but I can wear a lot of matte lipstick without any drying effects. The SA said that this one was from the most matte Lancôme range, almost a powder finish (I haven’t found that to be the case though, just a pure vivid matte) and she said there is a more hydrating matte range available as well (but I preferred the packaging for this one). The finish reminds me of Pat McGrath matte trance range, but cheaper, and it’s easier to wear than Nars matte. My favourite matte is from Chanel, rouge velour and rouge velour ultra, I can wear them everyday with no trouble and just a good lip balm at night. Apologies for the essay ☺️
Ach, rouge allure velvet, I mean! My message was far too long and also wrong (but it’s a beautiful lipstick formula).
Thank you! I will check these lipsticks out and stick with EL ANR instead of switching it up.
I love to read essays on lipsticks
LTSG-
Wanted to let you know I started reading Shuggie Bain. I know you mentioned that book. Did you ever get it read?
No, I haven’t. I am reading Young Mungo, and like 3 other books at the same time ?
What do you think so far? It’s on my list ?
I am enjoying it.
Slow Dance is fun! Maybe I’ll wear it Friday. I’m hoarding my sample of it, I don’t know why it strikes me as a guilty pleasure. Way too pricey for what it is, but I can’t help but like it.
I feel the same! I like it, it’s fun ?
Casablanca twin! Also, frozen twin.
Any other lipstick rec’s for fair skinned, light blue eyes, dark brown hair? I always end up with the same old plums.
I’d hit TF again, even with the price tag, the color and texture is that good.
I don’t have blue eyes but have fair skin. I will report back with some colors I have
AnniePerfumes, have you tried Lipstick Queen’s Medieval? It’s a sheer red that works even for people who are scared of red lipstick (like me). Unfortunately it seems to be getting hard to find as of late. ?
Second this!
Haven’t tried that and yes, I’m frightened of red!
I’ll third Lipstick Queen Medieval. I’m fairskinned and freckled, and a layer or two of Medieval isn’t too much. If it’s getting hard to find, I need to get a backup!
AnniePerfumes, have you tried Lipstick Queen’s Medieval? It’s a sheer red that works even for people who are scared of red lipstick (like me). Unfortunately it seems to be getting hard to find as of late. ?
I thunked another sample, this time of Jo Malone Basil & Neroli.
You are on a roll!
Cool and fresh out, so I’m in Demeter Waffle Cone. You know that smell when you step into an ice-cream parlour that makes waffle cones? It’s *exactly* that, buttery toasted grain and sugared vanilla, just startlingly accurate.
Yummy
You smell delish, love Waffle Cone!
I love that smell!
Oof this sounds soooo good!
Definitely perfect for the CP!
Wearing A*Men on a very cold but sunny day. We had lake effect snow all weekend, not enough to stick but between that, the low temperatures and gusty wind it sure feels like winter.
I’ll have to search for my fun perfumes, Gucci Rush, where are you? Probably in the very back of the cabinet. Happy Monday everyone!
Sure feels like winter here too! And I don’t like it!?
Hello everyone! Gorky – interesting. His memoirs of his childhood (and his portrait of his grandmother) is wonderful. I will wear something in her honour later thanks to this. Started the day in three sprays of Oscar by Oscar de la Renta (cheapo new bottle from discounter) but while the bottle is the same as what I remember from my mother’s dressing table, the perfume is only alright. Perhaps it’s one for the display shelf rather than my wrists…Good wishes to you all for this new week!
I have read a lot of Russian literature but somehow never Gorky.
I came across him a couple of years ago and managed to find volumes 1 and 2 of his memoirs (My Childhood is the first one, My Apprenticeship the second and I don’t know if the third one is available in English). He has written plays and novels as well but it’s My Childhood that I love ?
There’s at least one English edition of Autobiography of Maxim Gorky in three volumes, including My unversities…
Oh fantastic, thank you very much for this!
I don’t know his portrait of his grandmother but I like this quote from him:
I don’t like that word ‘finish’. When something is finished, that means it’s dead, doesn’t it? I believe in everlastingness.
Good quote, thank you! And sorry for my poor choice of words earlier – the grandmother features in his memoirs as a memorable character, not in an actual book of her own.
Love that photo of daffodils, Robin. They’re starting to pop up here!
That they’ll make it through the sudden return of winter is my fervent hope. It’s a perfect day for wearing Black March, an in an odd way, it does make me happy, since it contains the promise of spring in the chilly wind. So, even though it isn’t the same as fun, it’s close. ?
A glance at Fragrantica just now made me think these would be fun to sniff:
https://www.fragrantica.com/news/Kenzo-Memori-Collection-16303.html
I might not mind a bottle or two of these to lend a little cheefulness. Happy Monday, all! ???
We have lots of daffodils here too, but not the ones I am waiting for…they look like they are waiting for a nice warm day, so they may have a bit of a wait.
It is raining, Hallelujah!
In Plum, my favorite cozy scent for California rain.
We were promised pouring rain today, so far just a few puffy clouds. Maybe later…
The sun is now out. The cat, heedless of our drought, is happy as can be.
And the rain just started here!
I wore Plum yesterday and it was a cool, absolutely cloudless, blue sky day.
I hope your week goes well!
I thought of you when I applied my perfume this AM–I know you wear it as well (you wear it well!). Small coincidences across great distances.
Good morning all! Wearing Dior Fève Délicieuse. Will head to Nordies today to try Byredo De Los Santos and report back.
Looking forward to your report!
Yes!
Well, I’m puzzled. It smells *very* familiar, but can’t think of what it smells like – another perfume I’ve smelled before. It starts off strong but then gets quiet within an hour or so. It actually smells rather green. I thought it was reminding me of Byredo Open Sky, but it’s not quite that. Need to think about it more.
Very interesting and thank you!
Very intrigued! I liked Open Sky a lot. Thanks for the report.
Sounds like a fun day! You smell great!
Lots of good sniffing – I sprayed up to my armpits with about 12 different things. Didn’t think much of the Tom Ford Rose trio, nor of the new Jo Malones.
Thanks for your sweet comment, yesterday.?
Now, tell about this scent you are wearing. We are pretty darn close in our taste.
See comments above and below. 🙂
Thanks!
Report back
It smells like some other perfume, but can’t place it. It’s kind of green, a bit woody. I definitely smell the marigold, so I’m wondering if it is Profumum Roma Tagetes or Jo Malone Jasmine Sambac & Marigold. Will check and comment later.
Hello everyone!
Sotd is JM Velvet Rose & Oud body oil, definitely potent enough to be a fragrance.
This week’s CP really excited me! I think I need to think hard on this one but it is fun!
How do you like the body oil? Is it a worthwhile splurge?
In VC&A Bois d’Iris. I haven’t worn it for a while and it felt so good to smell of it again. Plus my colleague at work said that it smells gorgeous.
It is gorgeous!?
Gorgeous!
I love this one!
It is beyond gorgeous! You smell faaabulous
Bois d’Iris makes me think of you, lucasai.
I’m wearing Dans te Bras—beautiful, but not “fun”; I’ll have to think about that for the rest of the week.
I had a lovely weekend with my mom and am starting to count down u til spring break (2 weeks). The weather has that long to make itself feel like spring again!
Maybe not fun, but you smell wonderful.
You smell great, I love DTB.
I’m in TF Eau de Soleil Blanc. I’m copying pyramus’ theme of Vacation, All
I Ever Wanted this week.
Only instead of wearing scents I got while on vacation, I’m wearing scents I would wear while on vacation and wishing I was there. This is madtownteen’s spring break week and we had intended to spend it in Florida. Alas that was not meant to be due to work. Guess that’s what I get for changing jobs twice in the span of 12 months lol. Can’t expect to have my cake and eat it too. There’s always next year right? Now that my parents have a place there I always know I’ll have free lodging. And good food.?
Freezing here this morning! 22 degrees, which makes it about 50 degrees colder than it was last Monday. Unacceptable.?
P.S. offering a freebie box of miscellaneous samples, partial decants to a regular nster. You can email me, I’m p k wisdom(one word) in the yahooland. Thanks!
It was 17 when I drove into work this morning! Lot’s of sun but I am freezing! The weather station reminded me that the cool temps keep the severe weather threat away. So there’s that.
Gak! 17 degrees sounds pretty severe to me! But then, I’m a Pacific Northwest weenie when it comes to cold. ?
Yeah, that makes sense. We’ve already had tornadoes here. But 17!? C’mon Mother Nature!
You smell fantastic!
Thanks! I do!? This one lasts for a long time, too.
That’s a big temp swing!
It is! But not totally unheard of for March in the Midwest. We’ve had 80 on st patrick’s day with snow days later.
Stuck in the giant freezer along with you! ??
It’s horrible isn’t it? This is January weather!
Not a fan at all! But at least it will be gone soon, and we don’t have 2 more months of this.
It’s currently 22F, and that’s warmer than yesterday if you can believe it. At least it’s sunny,
EL Sensuous Nude today, because I decided to look on the bottom shelf of the not-frequently-worn section of my scents. Only a couple of spritzes, but I think I’ll add more in a little while.
Cranky today. The weekend had a lot of challenging moments that have given me a bit of a hangover.
I hope the rest of your week perks up and the sun warms your day
I don’t know how you survive on the daily with those temps!I mean,we are FREEEEEZING when it’s like 11 celcius in South Africa, nevermind -5c!!
Sorry you had a rough weekend. I hope it doesn’t extend itself further.
At least you smell absolutely wonderful. That fragrance blew me away.
Sorry to hear that you had some rough times over the weekend.
Hope the week improves LizzieB!
Girding myself with strong coffee and avocado toast as we are scheduled to have our internet changed over to new fibre technology. Supposedly this will take over 2 hours. Wish me luck!
I’m wearing about 10 sprays of Bronze Goddess on this rainy day. I wore Rogue yesterday and Shalimar PI and matching lotion on Saturday. Moving a few of my bottles around has helped with giving a few ignored bottles more attention.
Good luck with the tech upgrade! Those can be such a PITA!
Thank you! Yes, for sure a PITA! One of the emails suggested that we could do it ourselves. Hmm, not! Poor guy had to do alot of things including pull wires behind walls and add a new outlet.
Hope it is long since over and everything is working as it should!
Yes, it took him the full 2+ hours, but it’s all good now!
🙂
I’m basking in several spritzes of Paracelsus today. So, so beautiful.
It sounds good. Do you get much tobacco from it?
Good question — on me it’s mostly a very dark rose with patchouli and spicy woods, but there might be a smidge of tobacco amongst those woods and spices now that I really concentrate. It’s faint on my skin, but there.
O. Boy. You have created a lemming.
It’s definitely worth checking out. It’s an extrait and they (Soivohle) make tiny bottles … if that helps any. 🙂
You of course smell wonderful! Paracelsus is a great dark rose for cooler/colder weather. Thankfully, no tobacco for me with that one.
Wearing Clinique Happy right now. It’s supposed to be spring but we just had some snow and freezing out.
We had snow yesterday!
Happy Monday, Dawn.
That is a great scent
Clinique Happy is a nice scent. I wore it a lot last summer.
https://www.theguardian.com/books/2021/nov/24/harsh-times-by-mario-vargas-llosa-review-cia-secrets-and-breathtaking-lies?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
I enjoyed Harsh Times by Mario Vargas Llosa last year. It’s a complicated, confusing novel set in Guatemala, dealing with politics and corruption and power. You have to stick with it as it’s not a quick or easy read but it worth it.
Waiting for sunrise in MM Autumn Vibes, an impulse buy because it was autumn. Sometimes the wallet is quicker than the brain.
How do you like Autumn Vibes, Kanuka? I’ve really wanted to test this but Sephora didn’t have a tester last time I was in.
It is woody with a touch of spice and a mulch-like base, a little bit damp and earthy. It is pretty simple and not too sweet, but not too spicy. It’s hard to distinguish individual notes, it’s like they’ve been ‘composted’. But it’s quite good and it is growing on me. It won’t amaze you but it is nice.
Thank you, it does sound nice.
I am WAY behind on MVL…I think the last one I read was In Praise of the Stepmother, and that was so long ago I barely remember it.
Autumn Vibes was created based on Montréal’s Mount Royal park, although I can’t say that it really smells like the park to me.
Ah, interesting!
SOTD in Gabrielle Essence.
I recently wore Hermes Eau Des Merveilles and liked it, but it did not seem to have any lasting power. I never have that issue with any fragrances. Is this common for this one? I am going to try it again tomorrow and see if I get the same results.
Book of the week is Shuggie Bain.
I usually get about 4 hours out of EdM … a bit more if I layer it with Eau Claire des Merveilles.
Thanks Sheri. I can usually last almost all day without spraying again so just wondered.
Maybe you are getting nose fatigue with Eau de Merveilles? I’ve had a couple of perfumes do that to me; I think they are gone but my nose has given up detecting them.
Never heard of nose fatigue. I will try it again tomorrow and see if I smell it. If not, then maybe I have nose fatigue.
IDK if “nose fatigue” is the technical term for it, but that’s what I call it. I’d be interested to hear what your results are.
Taking CP points in my SOTD: Viktoria Minya Eau de Hongrie – what’s more fun than smelling like nectar and honey? It’s sweet but not cloying and very pretty. Not buying Botrytis when it was available is another regret of mine, but this is really nice. And thank goodness for fun fragrances on a Monday.
I so wish she was more accesible!
Inadvertently participating in the cp today with one of my “most fun iris perfumes”:Equistrius! It’s one of those that has it’s BUB stashed somewhere.
Someone here was wearing it recently, and I have been diving into my irises quite often recently.Do I need another iris perfume?I think I’m covered in most areas, from austere(ISM) to a whisper(28LP).
Happy Monday!
It’s almost weekend.Cannot wait.Lol.
XO’s
Hmm, is there ever enough iris perfumes? I think not!?
Never too many iris scents! I love Equistrius.
Rainy, chilly Monday in LA. have my space heater on again next to me in my office.
Testing Tauer Incense Rose – I don’t like it very much
Sick day tomorrow to see doctor for just a checkup and Nordies on way home to test the new Byredo!
Report back with all your testing
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the Byredo. Someone on fragrantica pointed out it smells like Le Labo Thé Noir – that may be why it smells so familiar.
I love that picture, Robin. I think daffodils are my favourite of all spring flowers. Only a few months to wait here 🙂
Meanwhile, in our cooling weather, I’ve chosen Taklamakan today. I saw last night that Stéphane Humbert Lucas has just released several new perfumes, but they look to be in the more expensive bottles. Maybe best I don’t try to track down samples.
They are probably mine too, other than lily of the valley (although here that is a transitional flower)…I do not really love tulips for whatever reason, and I love the smell of hyacinth but could live without the flower itself.
Robin, I’m note twining with you today in Vetiver Oriental.
I didn’t get a chance to chime in this weekend, so I want to share the things blooming around me: lots of wisteria spilling out from behind fences, and lots of blossoms I cannot identify (plum? cherry?) with their fluttery petals swirling everywhere. I’m looking forward to taking a walk later today and checking for more blooms.
Oh, I almost forgot! We went to check out the new house last week and discovered there’s a very fragrant, blooming vine next to our garage. Pretty sure it’s pink jasmine, the smell was intense and indolic.
How delightful! I hope your new home will contains lots of lovely surprises like this.
Wisteria already! And your own pink jasmine! That is all good news.
We went to Longwood yesterday to see the blue poppies in the conservatory…very cool although there aren’t that many of them. Was too cold to hang around outside at all!
I just googled the blue poppies at Longwood… wow, so stunning!
Loaded up on Angel’s Share. I didn’t even realize the CP, but it fits.
This will forever remind me of one of the most fun enablers we all know. Cheers to the Queen with her sash filled with enabler pins!
Wearing purple sweats again today, fwiw. I changed over to them sometime last week without knowing about Purple Day.
Awww???
Thank you, Jalapeno. Its worth a lot.
It’s not as cold as it is for some of you but cooler, it was 18/19C all last week and it’s been raining today, so more seasonal but rain is welcome.
I was wearing AA Rosa Magnifica, one of my favorite spring fragrances, and tonight I am in Alahine
I would take 19C right now!
It was a perfect week weatherwise, hoping good weather is heading your way.
I am in DSH Shimotski.
Since you have pointed its Lady Gaga’s birthday, I’d like to point something about her behavior at the Oscars which seems to have gone unremarked. She presented the Best Picture Oscar with Liza Minnelli. Minnelli was in a wheelchair. Gaga stood in close by her side, and managed to look at Minelli’s face without bending down or looking down. Minnelli seemed to be confused, and Gaga, calmly said “Don’t Worry I got this.” (Or maybe, “Don’t worry, I got you.” ) Then Gaga read off all ten nominees, but handed the envelope to Minnelli for the final announcement, and repeated it when Minnelli’s voice either faltered.
If you ever been a caretaker, you might have noticed Minelli’s struggles, but Gaga stepped in so generously, and so elegantly, most people apparently did not.
The Oscars usually are a great opportunity to watch a lot of narcissus on display, and last night, there was even worse behavior.
But Gaga, showed real kindness and generosity.
A true lady!
How gracious and kind of her. Kudos!
Just watched that — very sweet, thanks for the news.
Day 3 of Clouds of Flowers–it was so fun to finally buy something in person again
It was fun to go out sniffing/shopping today too – yay for things being more normal!
Finished off my Tom Ford Ombre de Hyacinth decant today – thunk!
My new Hoka walking shoes (well, they’re primarily designed to be running shoes but I’m a walker not a runner) arrived an hour ago! I am tentatively very hopeful they’ll work for me. I have wide feet, high arches, prominent heels, and have recently experienced a lot of pain in the ball of my right foot. I’ll try these out on a walk this evening. Happily, they have a 30 day free return period if they don’t work.
Report back on the shoes. I’m looking for a good walking shoe for work.
Good luck with the shoes!
Seville a l’Aube- I wore it yesterday and it is so nice wearing it today in the freezing spring days. Ready for spring. My huge young Rooster, Sonar, beat up my gentle old rooster, Foghorn, last night. My fault, roosters will be roosters.
Oh dear, I immediately went to a very, very rude version of “boys will be boys” –
Uh oh. Time to separate those roosters before someone really gets hurt?
Kyse Delizia di Marshmallow today and damn, I smell fine. ?
Yum! I have the body cream.
Back from the dentist, which went well but am still feeling a bit biffed up. Now wearing some SL Bas de Soie and expecting the afternoon to be looking up.
It always seems to take forever for anesthesia to wear off for me from a dental visit. It’s the weirdest feeling, too.
Yay for a good visit, though!
Ugh, dentist! But you smell lovely.
SOTD = 4160Tuesdays Meet Me on the Corner and Perris Monte Carlo Patchouli Nosy Be
Both excellent, both with fun names!
I wore Patchouli Nosy Be yesterday and I got creeped out because I have not worn it in ages, have not texted about it, spoken the name, googled it, nothing, but yet, what do I get on Insta? You got it. Creepy.
I can “gift” someone the Sephora Rouge privilege of shopping earlier (starting April 1st) and 20% off (instead of 15% or 10% off). It’s for one time use and is good until April 4th. If you’re interested, dibs here and send me an email (click on my name). I will have to submit your email address to Sephora. Please dibs on it only if you are going to use it. I believe it is U.S. only.
Congratulations on your niece’s engagement! Best wishes to the happy couple.
And a song for the last part of your post:
https://youtu.be/7YvAYIJSSZY
That’s really weird.
So are you saying insta knew what you were wearing even though you hadn’t posted it?!
I’m curious.

I saw madtowngirl’s post on Saturday about Taylor Hawkins. She beat NPR to that sad story. I’m also Gen X, and hearing that news put a damper on the weekend. Too young, d@mn1t!
Winter came roaring back with a vengeance the past couple of days. I saw snow flurries this afternoon for all of a minute or two, and the wind has been howling since Saturday. I don’t think the temperature made it above freezing. But later on this week it’s supposed to get up to 70 degrees! Not a fan in the slightest of these volatile swings in temperature.
SOTD =Au Dela Narcisse. My sample is very close to getting thunked. I will be sad after it’s gone, but happy that there is one less thing in The Sample Stash.
?too young indeed. FF videos have been on heavy rotation here too, this is my favorite?
https://youtu.be/1VQ_3sBZEm0
That’s a good one too! ???
I feel so sad for his family and the band.
My sotd is Bottega Veneta.
P.S.A. if anyone is a fan of the Diana Vreeland perfumes Fragrance net has them perfume math free. I have never tried them but they look interesting.
Ooooooooooooh, you smell goooooooooooood!
And congratulations to you and your niece on the upcoming new arrival to your family!
Thank you!
I snagged one already! ? I can never remember which one it’s called. Those silly names! Anyway, it’s mostly sandalwood, and it’s nice and uncomplicated. Worth the price, lol! Hope you stay warm tonight, lillyjo. ? ?
Yeah I am tempted but my last 2 blind buys didn’t go so well.
I’m staying warm tonight with the heat up!
Oh well, I think we all have our share of those., unfortunately. Let me know if you would like to try this one. Absolutely Vital.
