Australian botanical brand Aesop has launched Stoic, a new limited edition fragrance developed in collaboration with designer Rick Owens. As of this writing, it appears to be available only with the Aesop + Rick Owens Travel Kit, shown above, and in a matching candle.
Developed especially for this kit, Stoic is spicy, fresh and herbaceous. The inclusion of Black Pepper and Coriander Seed is a nod to the radical work of Rick Owens, while resinous, earthy, woody Frankincense balances the fragrance. Apply directly to pulse points, or to the accompanying ceramic beads.
Stoic was developed by perfumer Barnabé Fillion.
Aesop Stoic is available in 15 ml Eau de Toilette. Other items in the kit ($190) include the ceramic beads ("A string of porous ceramic beads on a waxed cotton cord designed to be doused with fragrance and worn on the wrist, or placed in a drawer or luggage to impart aroma"), 100 ml each of Classic Shampoo, Classic Conditioner, Coriander Seed Body Cleanser and Resolute Hydrating Body Balm. The candle is sold in 65, 240 and 620g ($45-$225).

It’s already sold out on Rick Owens website.
I would love to try the candle. I like that it comes in different sizes ☺️
I like the candle too…hope that will get distributed.
Me too.
I live in Denmark, so my hopes are very low.
We should schedule vacations in Australia! (Although actually I think Rick Owens operates out of Paris, so that would do.)
Even though it’s still very expensive, I have always appreciated that Rick approaches projects with other brands and his DRKSHDW diffusion line that let me experience his aesthetic at a (sometimes) accessible price point.
The kit was a little too spendy, but I got the candle – what a beautiful vessel! I’ll write back with how it smells upon arrival.
Oh good, please do! You clearly know RO way better than I do.
It arrived today! It came with a co-branded Aēsop canvas tote, which was fun.
The candle is almost all patchouli, but the black pepper and elemi make it more than just that. It has a fresh herbaceousness to it, but is so sinuous and rich. To me, it smells the way his jackets make me feel, and that’s the highest compliment I can give.
It’s not 100% unique and I’m sure I could find twenty patchouli perfumes that have the same vibe at a far less terrifying cost, but I do enjoy having it in candle form and the ceramic vessel is beautiful. No regrets!
Oh yay, so glad you like it! And of course thanks for the description 🙂
