It's Tuesday and and International Women’s Day (the 2022 theme: #BreakTheBias). What fragrance are you wearing?
Me: first full day of vacation, commando for a beach day but tonight I'll be in Guerlain Terracotta Le Parfum. It is the only perfume I brought with me on vacation, so I will not have anything interesting to report this week.
Reminder: 3/11 is the two year anniversary of the day the WHO declared the Covid-19 pandemic. Wear whatever fragrance you think fits.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Versace Etoiles de la Mer pattern appears to be discontinued, but you can still find the teapot at Grayson Luxury for $825.
Happy Women’s Day! ?♥️
Testing Tokyo Gallivant for the second time and enjoying it today. It’s the perfume equivalent of a blanket on this cold and grey day (5C | 41F, that’s a yikes from me).
?❤️?
Early today! Gas is now $4.25 a gallon here.
I am wearing Cuir de Lancome because it makes me feel good.
Smelling great!
Thank you!
Those prices have been making me look at the bus schedules to work. Who knows if I will actually do it, but they are making me at least consider it.
I’ve also been thinking about it. My fear of being trapped on a bus with strangers is still greater than $4.25 though. Lol.
Lol, yep I get that.?
I kind of enjoy public transportation though, anytime I can sit back and let somebody else drive I am all for.
I feel that way about trains, but not so much about buses — bus drivers scare me. ?
Gas line at Costco yesterday was around the block. We decided to try at a better time.
Petrol is $3 litre here ($11 gallon). Lucky I don’t drive much. Have a good week!
You smell gorgeous. I blind bought that some years back and couldn’t be happier.
Yeah, gas here was $4 last night. My guess is it’s higher today. We have no public transit options, unfortunately. I was a bus/subway gal for years.
You smell glorious.
If makes you feel better ( it shouldn’t) gas was about this same price back in 2008/9.
Is this taking inflation into account? There are so many other factors though…
Whenever I fill my tank lately I have a flashback to being a senior in high school in 1997/1998 and filling my tank for $0.99/gallon.
Sweet memories 😉
I worked at a gas station in the 80’s. I think gas was about .87 cents.
Last week I saw a lot of signs for gas at $3.99. I have no idea what it is going for today around here.
$4.25 in our small Indiana town.
I paid $4.79 for premium on Saturday. Outrageous!
I couldn’t wear perfume during the first part of quarantine, it was a daily decision that I wasn’t up for making amid all the stress, so this week I’m wearing perfumes I haven’t worn since the before times. That is, unless I’m craving something else. Today is Amouage Opus VI.
I felt the same, no bandwidth for perfume.
I’m glad you are able to revisit some old loves. Looking forward to what you pick this week.
Galop d’Hermes and a cup of Cranberry Spice Hibiscus tea
I love Galop. I’m still kicking myself for not getting a bottle when I saw it cheap. It was too good to be true I didn’t trust it though.
Love Galop!
Good morning! Not wearing anything yet, but I’ll put some iunx talc on for my doctors appointment later.
I smelled a guy the other day wafting an amazing licorice perfume over the whole outdoor dining area. I wish I had asked him what he was wearing! Are there any current licorice perfumes for men? I thought it could be lolita lempicka, but I dont know if hip 20 somethings wear such old (“old”) perfume.
Gosh, that sounds great! I hope we can figure out what it might be.
I wonder if it was Hermes’ Brin de Reglisse?
Unfortunately I dont think so! This was definitely a Guy’s Cologne, with big sillage.
I was in Winners yesterday (it’s the Canadian equivalent of TJ Maxx) getting some shower gel, and I made the mistake of looking at the (anemic) fragrance section, and, well, now I own a bottle of Mugler Aura EDT. But it was half price! And I’ve been thinking about it for like a year! And It’s the first scent I’ve bought in ages!
The bottle is even more beautiful than it looks in the pictures: it’s really something. The scent is riveting, very green and exotic with just a bit of a sharp edge, eventually warming up but never becoming sweet at all, even hours later. I don’t know of anything like it: it’s very Mugler is what it is.
I love the bottle! The scent is not bad either. Enjoy your prize!
I just bought Aura a couple of weeks ago and I love both the scent and the bottle. Glad you found a great buy!
Oh I am another Aura fan! The edt is the best gateway to the line. I then decided I liked the Eau Sensuelle better and bought the small bottle. That was going to be IT. Period. But Mugler scents just haunt and grow on me and now I have the edp and the edt. The opening of the edp is still a bit too minty for me.
Congratulations! You just never know with Winners. I, of course, have terrible luck there, but there’s always the odd surprise. Congratulations on the good buy!
Sampling The Oud Affair from Vilhelm which is coming across as a strong tobacco scent at the monent
I like tobacco better than oud, personally.
I’m in Diptyque Orpheon, which I can’t describe in particular notes but I would describe it as a perfumey perfume.?
What a gorgeous morning! I walked out of the house to blue skies and sun, not a cloud to be seen. Then on the way to work this song was playing:
https://youtu.be/VbD_kBJc_gI
I couldn’t NOT be in a good mood.?
Also, my college daughter comes home this weekend for a week!?
Happy Tuesday!
Yay for a happy day! And your daughter coming home!
And… perfumey!?
Thanks!
Yes, perfumey makes me think of you now.?
You smell great! Enjoy your visit!
Thanks!?
I liked Orpheon the one time I smelled it in store, must try again…
Glad you’ve had such a lovely morning!☀️?
It’s very pretty, not one that I feel I need but I am enjoying my sample.
Great news about seeing your daughter and sun, too!
Sun makes everything better!?
I thought for sure the song link you posted would be this one:
https://youtu.be/iPUmE-tne5U
I knew when I clicked on that link what it was going to be!!?? That’s a good one, Jalapeno!
Happy Tuesday indeed! I love it when my young adult children come home. Enjoy yourself!
Me too Old Herbaceous, thanks!?
Oh what an awesome morning, even better to think of your daughter’s visit ?
Yes, I can’t wait to have her home!
Yay for kids coming home and blue sky!
Flying to SF today to visit mom & dad, wearing TRNP Violet Firefly.
Wishing you a safe trip!
Thank you!
Enjoy your time with your mom, and safe travels.
Thank you!
I hope your flight goes smoothly and you have a happy visit.
The flight was uneventful, happy to be here. 🙂
Safe travels and wishing you a peaceful visit.
I am happy to get a break from my husband, it’s been a loooong time since I’ve had a few days to myself.
Have a safe flight that is on time! Hope that your visit goes well.
Flight was slightly delayed but not a big problem. So nice to be visiting alone, my dad and husband usually get into loud political harangues. ?
Eeeeeep! ?
Safe travels, and I hope you have a lovely visit with your family!
So far so good, glad to be here.
Enjoy being with your family.
Thank you, I’m happy to be here.
have a good visit. Include many hugs.
Enjoy the time with your family, and in SF! I haven’t been since the before times…miss it.
Enjoy your time!
Wearing Diorling today. It will be a longer shift than normal at work today. It’s an inventory day today and not looking forward to it.
Hope it goes by fast!
You smell very elegant, I really enjoy Diorling as a soft leather.
Good luck Dawn!
I found my tiny decant of Botrytis! I love this perfume, and have been sad that it’s long discontinued and nowhere to be found. I smell marvelous, and am not going to worry about some future time when my last drops are gone.
Right, enjoy it while it lasts to the hilt!
Yay – glad you found it and will enjoy it! But I’m still hoping that someday it may come back…
Echoing everyone else about how wonderful Botrytis is. Enjoy smelling great!
I’m inadvertently CP-compliant in Memoirs of a Trespasser — tie-in is that I felt like I was trespassing every time I went anywhere in the beginning of the pandemic. It has tapered off now, and I only feel that way in stores and doctors’ offices. People at my hair place and pilates studio (the only other places I’ve gone regularly) have been so sweet and welcoming, despite having some of the strictest rules I’ve encountered, that I can’t help but feel at home. Thank goodness, because haircuts and pilates have been a huge part of keeping me sane!
That’s a good tie-in. I still don’t go everywhere I used to go pre-pandemic. Sometimes that’s because i realized, for example, how much I hate large supermarkets. Stopped going, won’t go back. I haven’t yet been back to a movie theater but I look forward to it; and we’re planning to go see a live play in April. I’m very excited about that!
Totally with you on large supermarkets. And a live play — that should be fun!
Testing out Mango Skin today – VERY gourmand, like mango bubblegum.
I got a job offer this weekend, and I’m still floating on it, so I don’t mind the sugar as much as I might. But it’s probably not going to be my “I got a tenure track job!” celebration purchase (that might go to Salomé . . .).
Salome would be a very worthy celebration perfume!
I think I just needed one other “yes” vote to settle my thoughts on this. You’re it!
Congratulations!!
Thank you!
Congratulations on your offer and taking your time over it
Thank you!
But, I think I phrased it poorly – I didn’t actually take much time at all. I’m just floating on the feeling of having a job!
Even better!! Float on!
Congrats! I have been trying to decide on a new-job present for myself for the past couple months, and still haven’t come up with a good one. Salome sounds perfect 🙂
Thank you! And I won’t fuss if you decide it should be your present, too. 😉
Seriously, a tenure-track job? ? I would be buying BOTTLES. Congratulations!
Thank you so much! I’m glad to have the job – and also glad I don’t have to “compete” with my friends any more.
A bottle per publication seems fair, right?
Congratulations on the new job! Salome is an excellent pick as a celebration perfume.
Thank you! I am glad so many people on this thread are confirming my judgment. 🙂
How wonderful — congratulations!! I think anything by Liz Moores would be a worthy celebration perfume gift.
Thank you! And, yes, I think you’re right there. Her work is so rewarding to wear.
Congratulations! Getting a tenure-track job is SO HARD these days. Definitely worth celebrating, fragrantly as well as otherwise. 🙂
Congrats!
Happy international Women’s Day! Hmm…maybe all women should get the day off?
I’m wearing FM Angelique Sous la Pluie, one of the samples from my postponed-but-finally achieved sniffathon with a good friend. Oddly, it smells totally different on my right wrist than it does on my left!
That is bizarre! I really like this perfume (but I love pretty much anything by Jean Claude, used to wear Declaration with delight!) but have never had it change so much. How interesting! Hope you’re enjoying it ? And I hear you on having the day off ?
I did enjoy it, thanks…on both wrists!
That’s so interesting! I’ve had that experience a couple of times but I can’t remember which fragrances had that effect.
I had that happen with Tom Ford Violet Blonde.
In general, I find wearing fragrance to be comforting and I looked for a lot of comfort during the early stages of the pandemic. (Still do, but especially then…) So I’m in PG Bois Blond which I find warm and super comforting.
Points then!
Fils de Dieu today. It’s my “happy perfume” and I haven’t worn it in a hot minute. Eating toasted Irish Soda Bread with jam because it’s the season. No big plans, but it’s another sunny, cool day so perfect for a hike.
Beautiful teapot!
Irish Soda Bread is so so good. I ate a ton of it during my last visit with my dad before he passed away.
I’ve been eating a ton of it too..?
Have a good hike.
Deva, I’ve had the most vivid dreams for the past couple of nights and last night I dreamt that you were one of the nurses at the summer camp my daughters will be at. In my dream I ran into you while dropping off my teenager and then I invited you over to my parents house for dinner!?(they live a few miles away) Which is totally something that in real life I would do! lol
Oh, that dream is hilarious! Pretty sure you don’t want me in charge of any children as that would lead to complete chaos. As for dinner, I’m there! ✌?
Haha, well if you ever find yourself in Wisconsin, consider yourself invited.?✌️My teenager would fall in love with T- rex.☺️
What a good idea — I’ve made Irish soda bread before but haven’t done that in a LONG time. I hope things have settled down a bit for you at work.
Thanks!
Wearing one of my favourite “morning after” perfumes, Bapteme de Feu. ( Morning After: spray it on at bedtime and it smells insanely good at 5.30am when you wake up all warm and snuggly). Almost finished the bottle. What to do?!
Well, clearly: Order more! A good morning-after perfume is worth its weight in … well, perfume. ?
https://youtu.be/msgxhVgUc6I
Why don’t we cross the bridge together? Classic!
That’s a great one for morning after! I really like it. I’ve seen tester bottles of it for sale at online discounters — go for it!
Baptême du Feu is such a strange perfume on me, sometimes it smells like spices, sometimes like bug spray.
I am still getting to know it too. I was not sure what to expect as it was a blind buy based on the promo with the maestro and his rifle. I’m going to dig it out this week. Kanaka, I’m glad to have it in my collection…?
Got a travel spray of Sunset Hour from Goldfield & Banks so am wearing that today. It’s nice enough as an everyday scent.
Stayed up very late last night for some reason. I feel fine, but I’m hoping the shortened sleep helps me go to bed earlier tonight.
Good luck tonight LizzieB! I am short on sleep too.
It’s been a busy busy day for my snozzle!
Started the day off in Aqualis Kalahari. It does smell of the earth, red dust and sweet desert-melons.There’s a mineral element that almost smell like the color burnt orange, like Kalahari sand. It’ s the same effect almost in Habit Rouge, but a bit more fruity.
SOTE Salvador Dali Aqua Verde,a fairly pretty watercolor-fig.It was a total blind buy,but I do enjoy the aquatic cool elements, like a fig ice-tea with cucumber and pineapple-mint.Nicely done.
My new purple shampoo is also a smell-fest!It could be a perfume all by itself, and although I don’t normally like scented shampoos I do like this one quite a bit!
Kristin Ess The One purple shampoo and conditioner. Also the first purple shampoo that does what it says on the can:no more brassy-ness and leaves my hair with a soft grey hue.LoveLove.
XO’s
You made a new username & profile pic! Wow, I’ve missed a lot recently. You smell lovely 🙂
We missed you!(And yes,I did!Haha!)
Thanks!
?❣️
Did you let yourself go grey? I’m still fighting it.
Haha….NOOOO…the blonde tends to go very brassy-yellow in our Summer sun and splashing around in chlorine…The shampoo is a great “toner” back to more ashy-white-blonde-grey.
Nice-smelling, hard-working purple shampoo, you say! Most do not have a nice smell it is true. Will have to check Kristin Ess out, as Oribe Silverati is nice, but quite spendy in its silvery splendor.
I use Silverati three times a week and the conditioner once.
The bottle lasted me about 6 months.
I have in Sephora cart for spring sale.
SOTD is Jeraboam Ambra.
Following the discussion of purple shampoo with interest!
I use Lush Daddy-O purple shampoo, which smells of violets. Love it!
I will have to look for it. The last purple shampoo I bought (something by L’Oreal) smells like standard issue man cologne.
Oh yuck. ?
Happy International Women’s Day!
SOTD: Clean’s Rain reserve- starts off green and sharp, and softens down to a musky/soapy skin scent. Perfect for the day, which is overcast and a bit rainy.
I don’t drive much ( I bike/use public transit most of the time) but the gas prices are equal to or lower than gas prices about 12-14 years ago. But this does mean that flying and shipping of goods has just gotten way more expensive than anticipated.
You’re exactly right, especially when one equalizes today’s dollars and yesterday’s. I do think American oil companies are taking advantage of the current turmoil to boost their profits. The US doesn’t import much Russian oil, and it takes some time for supply chain disruptions and crude oil prices changes to actually affect the retail market, as far as I know. Anyway, I drive a hybrid, almost always in electric mode, so I’m less affected. I feel for the poor souls who have no other choices for getting to work.
A beautiful spring like day.
I was in Jardins de Bagatelle deep all day, and not feeling like changing this evening, also it’s still going strong.
*edp not deep
Well,I tend to go deep with all my perfumes a la Hajusuuri-style-10/12 sprays….✌?????
We need a J B style since yours is 20-50% more than mine!
?
Envious of your spring day. ?
I ‘ll do my best to send good weather your way.
I’m hoping that we have a real spring this year, and don’t jump from Winter into Summer.
Oh, I’m with you, there should be four seasons not two.
Happy Women’s Day!
I’m wearing Kilian Angel’s Share today.
Hope it was a good day for you Lucasai.
Smellin’ good!
House twins with lucasai, wearing Woman in Gold.
Nice.
I love Woman in Gold! You smell wonderful!
Memo Marfa on the back of my hand, and then Diptyque Tam Dao everywhere else.
That is funny because I was just missing my evening Tam Dao.
Wearing Cabochard edt today. This is powerful stuff!
Ooh, I bet you smell great! Is it the new version, in the shorter bottle?
I think I got it about 3 years ago from Fragrancenet; it’s the ginormous bottle.
Exactly how big is the ginormous bottle? Inquiring minds and all that…
It’s the industrial size, 3.4 oz. I think it was all they had at the time.
I love it! You smell great.
Thank you, ringthing! I haven’t worn this in forever; it was nice to take it for a spin today.
My Cabochard is a splash bottle and I only do 2-3 dabs. It is very powerful and awesome!
It certainly is both of those things! It’s yours vintage? (I’m thinking that I had a bottle in my younger years)
Hello everyone, have been hiding behind perfume for the past while and it has definitely been helping: today is Shalimar MVP, yesterday was Diptyque Eau Capitale, Sunday was Shalimar edp and Saturday was a huge cloud of White Linen. Hope you’re all feeling safe and sheltered.
A huge cloud of White Linen sounds divine! You smell great!
What do you think of Eau Capitale?
Sorry this reply is so late lillyjo! I like it- it’s a lovely smooth chypre with good lasting-power but I’d love it rather than like it if there was a bit more movement or development in it. Still, it’s a good companion on a long day!
Commando twins with Robin, although I am planning to stay that way. My rash seems to be clearing up rather quickly, but I will give my upset skin more time to calm down and get back to its typical state.
Glad you are on the mend, taking some extra time seems wise.
Thanks ringthing.
Are you putting anything on it or letting it heal on its own?
Letting things heal on their own. That area has improved so much on its own that I don’t think a salve or ointment is necessary. I will probably be able to wear perfume by Friday, if not sooner.
Oddly I just recently gave myself a rash … overuse of skin products. A little bit of helichrysum oil mixed into a very basic lotion really helps, and I love the smell (the rest of my family, they don’t love it so much).
I think mine might have been a combination of perfume + being overheated in bed. It sounds ridiculous when I type it out, though.
Might be time to put away the flannel PJ’s for the season soon.
Interesting! Like a perfume heat rash.
Oy, but at least it’s healing on its own!
Happy Women’s Day! In honor of women perfumers, I’m wearing one of Dawn Spencer Hurwitz’ Heirloom Elixirs, Airavata. It is warm and spicy, but also floral. I’m enjoying it very much!
Perfect!
I had no specific perfume urges this morning and saw that if I sprayed vigorously, I could thunk a decant of Shalimar parfum de toilette. So that’s what I did. ? A reliable no brainer perfume.
A very fragrant thunk for the win!
SOTD = Bath & Body Works Orange+Sandalwood Body Spray
I was in such a hurry this morning I ended up wearing the bottle I saw ? first. Great choice in my opinion but as a body spray and as expected, it did not last long.

Off to read comments!
I don’t recall this one. Is it new?
Same question!
Ede mentioned it!
I got it last year after Ede mentioned it!
Cute little flower-powered owl!
Thank you. I got 3 from the Menil Bookstore in Houston. I called and asked to see a picture of the owls they had and I said I am buying all 3 smaller ones!
Crazy, crazy day. I’m on the planning committee for my company’s International Women’s Day event, as well as having to clean up the mess left by an SVP who declared this week “Employee Appreciation Week” for her group just over a week ago, giving her peers 2 days’ notice (they’re busy, they didn’t all get to reading her email until after the ship sailed), and then everyone in the company screaming that they weren’t included and now they look bad.
I didn’t do a good women’s perfume (but I think I covered that pretty well last week). I am CP-compliant in Fat Electrician. Every electrician we tried to contract for our reno during COVID jacked up their prices 2x to 4x, just ’cause. (I get it trades where purchase of materials is required, but the electricians didn’t have to buy much.)
Gas is $2.39/L here today, after being $1.99/L over the weekend (gallon = x4, roughly). At the beginning of COVID, gas fell $0.89/L. Sigh.
Yikes, a good thing turned negative! Re: gas – I don’t use much gas but when ever it’s 1/4 tank lower, I just fill up.
Happy International Women’s day!
I’m in a cloud of Portrait of a Lady…
Perfect!
