Wednesday scent of the day 3/2

Posted by Robin on 2 March 2022 158 Comments

It's Hump Day and Dr Seuss Day (aka National Read Across America Day). What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Le Labo Lys 41, from perfumer Daphné Bugey.

Reminder: on 3/4, to mark Women's History Month, wear a perfume by your favorite female perfumer. (In 2018 we marked the occasion by wearing a fragrance by perfumer Germaine Cellier or Josephine Catapano.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m taking cp points in Olivine Atelier She Belongs There perfume oil. Gardenia, jasmine and vanilla. I smell tropical even though it’s 34 and overcast.
Today is my Friday and I’m headed out of town tomorrow.
    Happy Hump day!

I’ve thunked another sample, this time from the first discovery set that I ever bought. I’m wearing Atelier Cologne’s Blanche Immortelle. I realized that I need to go through my older discovery sets and pull samples that I can use up, especially since I have several new or untouched discovery sets.

I’ve been on a mission to thunk some samples recently too. They have a way of multiplying and then I feel overwhelmed by how many I have! It’s a good feeling to use some up.?

I’ve been stuck in a perfume rut for a couple of days; been wearing Mandy Aftel’s Ancient Resins. It’s a nice rut to be stuck in.

We’re waiting for rain… tomorrow maybe. The weather’s been gorgeous but I need a break from all the yard work I’ve been doing.

The things you learn when you look up a perfumer! I’m in Memo’s Irish Leather–nose was Alienor Massenet. She was behind a number of the Memo leather scents, and also Winter Palace, which has some fans on NST.

And, I am repeating my offer :-) :

Last week, I purchased a bottle of 30 year old L’air du Temps edt. It is a large bottle and I am no aficionado of this perfume. I want to offer up to ten, 5 ml decants to NST regulars based CONUS. The deal is you have to swap me back 5 mls (less is okay too) of a perfume you love (but not one of those, ‘it doesn’t work for me but others love it.’ For this swap, you have to love and wear the perfume you send me!) If you are interested, email me your name and address, and NST handle :-). I am: ann dottie eisenberg attagirl comcast dottie net

I’m in my new Masque Milano Madeleine sample (Fanny Bal) and really enjoying it. It’s very soft – a bit of pastry, a bit of floral, sort of milky. I’ll have to wear it several times, but it’s going on the “very possible” list.

Online reservations for camping in the San Juan Islands open this morning. Stressing about trying to get camping reservations made while attending a meeting and taking notes for said meeting (yes, I *should* definitely be putting work first…but if I don’t get the reservations made when they open, we might not get a spot soooooo…)

Camping is clearly way more crucial than a work meeting in my book. Record the meeting on your phone so you can take notes later and concentrate on the booking. You will thank yourself later when you are gazing at the stars from your campsite .

I’ve been lurking and reading SOTD comments all week, but keep forgetting to post, so I’m chiming in earlier than usual today. I’m sampling Arquiste Misfit and it is a definite nope. I don’t know if it is the particular type of patchouli, or a combo of the patchouli and tolu (or maybe something else I can’t place), but this absolutedly doesn’t not work for me. It creates an animalic, non-comforting BO note on me. (I acknowledge that it is weird that I find some BO notes comforting). It is interesting — I’ll give it that.

Drinking golden monkey tea today which has such a lovely honey aroma to it.

Not everybody is using the same fraction, so one patchouli is not the same as another patchouli. (True of most notes, I guess.)

A beautiful starry morning with the Southern Cross and it’s pointers above me…got a cricket in my neck looking up and felt old!!! This year I am going to buy a telescope, seriously. Going to see THE Batman today with my son … what a drag. I hate car chases …how many times can you watch a car ride up on two wheels, spark dramatically, roll, crash off bridge , over a line of traffic , explode. The citizens of Gotham City deserve better traffic management. That’s what I’d be voting for. Better bike lanes, pedestrian friendly spaces and close the central city to cars.
Wearing Fleurs d’orange and Lust together and it is good.

It’s been quite warm after the snow we had last week. The sun has taken up 100% of the sky, not a cloud in sight. I’m all moisturized and sun-blocked and will be headed out on a hike soon.

Finally catching up with the CP with Jovoy’s Remember Me by Cécile Zarokian. It’s definitely a favourite. Cécile has done a couple of other perfumes that I love, particularly Fêtes Persanes from MDCI. I need to check out more of her work.
I’ll be perfuming the lounge today. We’ve all been asked to work from home in the aftermath of riots yesterday, when police cleared the protestors from Parliament. Streets had been blocked for over three weeks and we were all thoroughly sick of it. Any of the protestors who were truly peaceful had already left, so shocking but not surprising it turned violent.
In other news, our cat has come through her surgery well, and we will going to pick her up tomorrow.
    It’s been a memorable week!

I saw wild horses yesterday – one of my favorite things about living in such a remote place. So I was thinking of hay and went with PG Bois Blonds. I love the dried hay and cereal notes it has. It’s an underrated PG, imo. I will miss my bottle once it goes the way of memories.

After being a city dweller for the past 20 plus years, I took a job teaching high school on the Navajo nation in New Mexico. I wanted to do something that would feed my soul, something I’d been craving since my days at university. I gave up a higher salary and every possible cuisine available at my fingertips, as well as shopping. Any shopping! I gained classes full of incredible students. A welcoming community. Coaching cross country. Coaching track. Navajo fry bread! It has been such an amazing experience in every way.

Oh how lovely — good for you! I have driven through the reservation twice, it’s just so gorgeous.

Maybe I did see wild horses and didn’t know they were wild? or I didn’t see any. I can’t even remember.

But yeah, I guess you are not going shopping any time soon. I love Albuquerque too, but even in Albuquerque you are not going to find fantastic shopping, and Gallup, forget it. Who needs shopping anyway.

Hello dear perfume people! Have been meaning to read and comment this week and the time keeps running away with me. And it’s March already! I wore mainly Chanel in February as a mini project (I’ve done this before-Chanel month, Guerlain month, rose month) but this time I really resented the restriction, despite the beauties in my collection – trying to stick to anything feels like such a chore at present! Well, my most-worn was No 5 edt, perhaps because it is very soft and comforting. And despite my irritation at my own project I have accidentally continued it into March – yesterday was Le Lion (because of the old weather-wise proverb, March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb) and today is No.5 parfum, in a tiny bottle that arrived this morning. I “bought” it with department store points and it marks the second anniversary of my new job and career change, which has been such a positive move in all sorts of ways. Apologies for the essay today – off now to read all the comments for the past few days. Sending peace and good wishes to you all.

I’m celebrating women perfumers all week, and today chose Daphne from L’Aromatica’s natural line, LARO. Loreto Remsing is the perfumer. The daphne flowers are in full bloom all over my neighborhood and have been for the last week or two so I just had to wear this perfume.

Had a rough day yesterday when my Jo Malone Basil and Neroli (perfumer: Anne Flipo) gave me a terrible headache for most of the day. I had to wash it off and change my shirt. ? I love this perfume so I hope this is a temporary problem. I’ve also gone back through the SOTD list I keep to note which other perfumes incited a headache or sinus irritation the last couple months. I’m hoping I can find a pattern.

It’s not as sharp as daphne flowers, but it’s a pretty darn good take on daphne. I find it a joy to wear. And thanks! Not loving smell based headaches, especially when it’s perfume I really like.

CP-compliant and fist-bump with Oakland Fresca: I wore Memo’s Siwa, signed by Alienor Massenet, to try to push away a bit of the darkness of these days. Spotting a carpet of naturalized crocuses this afternoon helped a little, too.

Hey FearsMice! I want to respond to your ? re: my computer purchase. I ended up getting an HP Envy laptop with a 17” screen. It was $150 cheaper than when I went to Best Buy a few weeks ago. Costco will soon be selling it for $50 cheaper but eh, I wanted to make sure it worked over the weekend and it did and I used it already for my WFH day today. So far so good except I never changed the system time and I was wondering why people were setting up meetings for 5AM before it dawned on me that the computer thinks I am on Pacific Time! Anyway, there was no wait to purchase the laptop. I am getting reimbursed for all but < $100. The next time I can get reimbursed is 3 years from now. Not bad overall!

By Olivia Giacobetti! What a beautiful perfume and points for the CP!

No IG photo although I may post something later. Who knows?

There are 4 charities to which (to whom?) my company will match donations. Yesterday, I donated to World Central Kitchen. Today, I upped the ante by donating to International Medical Corps. I wanted to make it meaningful so chose only this one. The news is not good.

In other news, I was totally shocked that my WFH technology purchase reimbursement, which I requested yesterday, will be paid to me by this Friday. Wowee…and I am getting an extra $100 which means I can spend $199 for something and it will still be perfumath free. Heh, who am I kidding? I already spent it ?!

Hey all! I got back last week from my vacation at my parents’ house, which was lovely. I did a lot of sleeping, cooking, reading, and listening to podcasts. I mostly kept up with reading NST, cause I hate missing news!

Today I wore Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom and Honey, which happens to comply with the CP because apparently Jo Malone herself created this one. The weather was so warm today (51F!) that I went for a walk at lunch. First time since last fall. I love exploring the neighborhood around where I work–it’s so cute.

I hope you all are hanging in there.
