Saturday is Darwin Day and Lincoln’s birthday; Sunday is World Radio Day.
We’re marking all the occasions with our standard open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the last fragrance that made you rethink your note preferences, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Just a quick note to say that I’m heading home today after a few days out of town. I am behind on reading comments and I’ll catch up by Sunday…
Have a safe drive home!
Safe travels!
Get home safe!
Thanks everyone!!
A beautiful day here and I am wearing Shalimar…Mexique.
I should pull mine out to wear…after the samples CP week is over!
The Ode a la Vanilles were lovely. Pity that they were discontinued.
Of all the Shalimar flankers, that’s the one I love the most. You smell wonderful!
Here is my question: I want something that smells like Opium used to smell back in the day: spicy smooth. Any suggestions?
Back in the day….
The only scent I have worn that seemed close to it was Cinnabar.
Cinnabar was an unabashed knockoff of Opium and it was really good — I think better than what it was copycatting, to be honest, less violent. (And Estée Lauder herself called Opium “my Youth-Dew with tassels”, which it really wasn’t, but even if it had been, it was kind of nervy of them to make a knockoff of a knockoff.) I haven’t smelled a new bottle in quite a while so I don’t know what it’s been turned into in the intervening years, but it’s worth a shot.
I have a fragrance oil that says
Kuumba made Tunisian Opium. It is nearly identical to the original imo.
Silly question – was this from Whole Foods?
I actually don’t know. It was a Freebie from a generous nster. I have never heard of it, but it sure smells good.
Safe trip back home, Robin!
Wearing Robert Piguet Calypso to continue with my rose theme. ?
Amazing day today! It is 60 degrees in my area right now with beautiful blue skies. Birds are jumping and singing happily, and the first crocuses are coming out.
Spring is in the air!
My youngest sister has a very small family gathering later this afternoon to celebrate my twin nieces birthday. It was in January, but because of Omicron, it was postponed for a later date. Parents decided that this weekend was the perfect weather for it. As usual, since the pandemic started, only my younger sister, nephew, his girlfriend, and mom will be attending. I will try my best to be there. Yei is having breathing problems today. His vet is not getting back to me yet, but I feel the trip to the hospital is going to be next.
Wishing you all a great weekend! ?
It’s a beautiful day indeed. I’m sorry Yei is having a set-back. Hugs to you and hopefully it is just a very temporary thing.
I’m wearing Casmir today for you and Yei, and wishing the best for you both.
Sending vibes to Yei and you.
Thoughts and a prayer for you and Yei today. It’s good you will be with your family and the little girls.
Best wishes for a wonderful family gathering and also hoping that Yei’s step back is temporary.
Happy Birthday to your nieces!
Continued good health wishes for Yei.
Belated birthday wishes for your little nieces! And crossing my fingers for Yei.
Happy birthday to your little nieces! I hope Yei is feeling better today.
SOTD = Amouage Attar Orris Wakan
I jave a good number of Discovery Sets that I decided to start the samples CP earlier than usual. I got the 6-sample attar set and have been sitting on it for a few weeks. I kept trying to uncap a vial using my usual method of popping off the top just like I do with the LuckyScent dabbers. Today, I discovered that one should simply unscrew the top. I should have known!
Anyway, Orris Wakan is vial number 1. It’s a fairly linear attar that smells of opulent but also restrained orris butter. There’s a spicy nuance to it although I couldn’t tell what makes it spicy. Overall, it smells good but not FBW (a mere 12mL) especially at around $500 per bottle.
Maybe I am turning over a new leaf because I did not immediately jump into purchasing Angel Nova yesterday at Macys despite the equivalent of 20% off. Actually, the math nerd in me calculated it to be a smidge below 17% since you have to buy something as close to $20 as possible to make the store credit reward worthwhile.
I’ll be back later! It’s a beautiful Saturday in these here parts!
That Angel Nova bottle is beautiful. I keep telling myself I’ll love it but raspberries in perfume give me a headache. What note do you get the most?
I say fruity berry which is probably the raspberry. As soon as I smelled it, I thought about the Angel summer flanker which I now recollect based on searching that it was called Eau Sucree which was fruity berry smelling to me too. This was the EDP (in the red box) I liked quite a bit. The EDT in the white box seemed like a totally different perfume – I smelled the jasmine right away which really isn’t a flower I seek in a perfume.
Well now I have to sample the edt!
After Jessica’s review I tried the edp again. It is just not to be for me.
Thanks! Something I will need to sample.
Hmmmmmmmm. Fruit notes can be iffy for me. And I think I might have enough versions of Angel to keep me satisfied.
Going patch-free for a little while after yesterday’s layering experiment!
Sounds like a plan ?
Happy Saturday!
I went to check out the damage on some of the accesible paths on the estate after the flooding….so sad.It will take weeks to be fully operational. Two bridges collapsed on the golf course, there’s mud and riversand and puddles of murky water everywhere….
Anyways!
SOTD Reine du Volcan.Proudly South African, wish you guys could smell this!Interesting sesame oil note!
Sending hugs to all!
(Robin,I managed the name-change,thanks!)
This is Johanob by the way.New “username” will be as displayed.
XO’s?✌?
Sorry about the flood damage. I would like to sniff your perfume, sesame oil smells so good.
It’s a really interesting first of 2 perfumes from Wick Fragrances. The brand owner is expanding internationally,so look out for it in the near future!(would have loved to send you guys samples,if our postal service wasn’t absolute BS!)
Oooh, I’m intrigued by the perfume. The flooding sounds like a mess — I hope they can get it sorted fairly quickly.
From what I saw,and learned these past couple of years living here, about the actual science behind a golf course’s maintenance, probably at least two weeks.I can see how the grounds are unplayable,no golf ball could bounce or roll anywhere in the mud/riversand that is everywhere!
Ha! I didn’t even notice the name change because I saw the face. I’m sorry about the estate.
Now it’s gone!?
#StealthMode.?
Just don’t be disappearing again!?
Post flood cleanup can be rather gnarly, especially when roads & bridges are washed out.
11.5 hours sleep
Perfect day out and tomorrow for Super Bowl in LA.
Still getting meeting invites for March when my last day is this coming Friday. Should be an interesting week, no?
Am glad decided to take a week off between contracts. Car detailing, smog check, dentist, and best of all a special exhibit and film at California Science Center about Angkor Wat. It’s been exactly 20 years this week my sister and I went to Cambodia and Angkor.
Post shower, breaking out the bub of Chergui.
I have been thinking about getting a bottle of Chergui. You must love it if you have a bub.
I do love it. Uncle Serge at his best in those days.
Hope your last week sees everything fall into place! I bet some of the meeting invites that you won’t have to respond to give a feeling of inner peace!
The 4:30 am ones for sure!
What is a smog check?
Still sort of doing the duo theme. BBW Dark Kiss shower gel and Eau de Protect perfume.
I have been rethinking rose notes. I am usually not that fond of them, but found I love the dark roses.
Eau de Protection is gorgeous!I have not worn it in ages!Maybe a rose week?So many ideas coming from you guys I want to try myself asap.
Thanks JB. I meant Protection. I need to watch what I write before I send?
I was doing a rose-centered week this week, i could do another one..
I could do a week of roses and probably will one of these days when the CP calls for it. It would culminate in vintage(ish) Joy: I have a couple of mL left and am foolishly hoarding it, so I could use an excuse to wear it.
Dark roses are a different critter than their girly pink counterparts for sure.
World Radio Day. Anyone else remember when only AM radio existed, and actual disc jockeys played actual records? I had one of those ball Panasonic radios in the 70s, one earphone. I carried it from room to room, listening to WLS Chicago.
Currently watching the series This is Us from the beginning and all the 70s flashbacks make me nostalgic.
Wearing vintage Coco with my bathrobe, it’s a cold gray icy Saturday. Have a good weekend, all ?
I remember when DJs existed, though my childhood involved FM. It’s very hard for my kid to understand that I used to have to listen to / watch whatever someone else programmed. That said, I still do listen to KEXP online, specifically because they have great DJs who find new music I wouldn’t find otherwise.
I love KEXP – we listen to it all the time and feel fortunate to have such a good local station.
Our local college has a great radio station with lots of new music that’s not mainstream. I listen to it in the car.
Mr. G tells a story about sailing from California to Hawaii as a teenager, with his parents, in a 35-foot sailboat, with only a tinny, battery-powered transister radio to listen to out there. It’s one of his fondest memories.
That is a wonderful memory of Mr G!
What an amazing experience!
Radios matter. When I lived in Saudi we could hear Voice of America and BBC once a week.
My sister and and I went crazy with our transistors that day in 1964 when the Beatles arrived in the USA.
My sisters and I had a Panasonic ball radio, on the chain! Such a purely seventies object.
Vintage Coco is excellent stuff. One of the high points of eighties perfumery.
What color was your radio? Mine was white.
Red! I have such vivid memories of dangling it and swinging it around by that keyring attached to the chain: it seemed incredibly modern to unsophisticated me.
To me, too. Definitely one of my all-time favorite Christmas presents.
I remember discovering FM radio as a tween. The old song “No static at all” definitely applied! Many of the AM radio stations in my area were shifting towards either oldies or talk radio even then.
I definitely remember listening to top 40 am radio, from the clock radio by my bed!!
I’m in Glenwood, from Scotch Porter. It’s my absolute favorite from their line-up, and I find it very calming. It’s like the scent equivalent of a session of deep breathing.
I have to re-try this one!
AS Saturday today. It’s sunny here and I’m not having to work all weekend, and I think the temperature is supposed to break 10C today. I will take what I can get, and Saturday will help! Woke up to the text that Ockeghem Tween is finally up for her booster shot, so we’ll get that done this week. (Of course, I also woke up to the news that they’re planning to get rid of the testing requirement to get back into Canada, probably next week…and I have $450 of those tests sitting in my dining room in preparation for our trip to the US next weekend. Sigh.)
Yay on dropping the testing requirement! I have several of those kits too.
Yes, I’m hopeful they will drop the pcr testing. We are due to come back Feb 23rd.
I’m your scent twin in Saturday today. I just got the three samples about a week or 10 days ago and have only tried them a few times. I sprayed it on fairly lavishly and regretted it right away because I got a very strong whiff of either B.O. or cat pee. I looked at the ingredients list and nothing stood out as the culprit. Honestly, I was embarrassed to leave my room to go into my friends’ kitchen for coffee, it smelled to bad. It’s like grapefruit has been in some perfumes for me, as in the Aqua Allegoria version. It did go away after perhaps an hour, thank goodness. I found the scent had little projection and I can barely smell it now.
Given that yesterday when I paired up BK Rose Oud with MFK Oud Satin Mood I couldn’t smell the rose in either, I’m seriously wondering if my smeller is off. Mind you, I could smell onions and peppers cooking this morning when my friend made Mexican eggs (red from tomatoes plus white and green from the other items). I haven’t lost senses of smell or taste. However, there may be something going on with my olfactory powers due to all the medications I’m taking now after my knee surgery last week–nine of them. Maybe I’ll re-read the fine print to see if one of those has the side effect of distorting certain smells!
Yeah — I’m not sure, but I have never ever gotten anything other than bright grapefruit / passionfruit off of Saturday. It’s just a beautiful, happy perfume on me. There’s supposedly rhubarb, but I don’t think I’m quite sensitive enough to pick it up.
I can still smell it on me, at 6:30 p.m. after putting it on at 8:30 a.m., but it’s definitely fading.
I don’t know what happened but one of my pajama pants just decided to split on the inside seam of my thigh area. Not worth repairing. They only cost me $5 at Old Navy and they were kind of old. Then I get an email from a credit card saying they raised my credit limit. I am trying to pay credit cards off and not buy anymore perfume and candles. Just trying to make some things a little more manageable. Wore vintage BaV this morning and now in no 5 edt. What a goofy Saturday so far.
You smell wonderful. And boo credit card. I suspect the company’s AI detected your balance going down and sent the message to keep them seeming nice! Aren’t I cynical?
I think you call ‘em like you see ‘em. ?
Somehow I thought the combination of new credit limit with torn pajamas was leading to a purchase of brand new pajamas!
I don’t wear pajamas, but nightgowns. However, after my shoulder replacement I couldn’t put things over my head for awhile and bought some pajamas at Target, plus my aunt sent me a pair. Lots of pajamas are very cute these days, and comfy! Sorry I sound like an enabler here when you’re trying to save $$.
OK, am I the only one who just realized that Malle has renamed Une Rose? Why? This was the first FB that I purchased (and in Paris, too), it is nearly gone, but I do love it.
Too bright and sunny today for Une Rose…think I will spritz a touch of Fille de Berlin instead–please let me know if they changed the name!!!
I heard some rumors….what’s the new name?
Rose Tonnerre. WHY????!!!
It means “rose thunder”, so I guess they’re trying to say it’s not a demure little rose, but something dark and crepuscular?
Oh!Alrighty then.In my mind I roughly translated it as “a ton of roses”,tonnerre sounds ton-ish…lol.
Don’t think it needed to be changed, but ….I will use my Une Rose to the very dregs!!!
That bugs me too. Dior changed Gris Montagne to Gris Dior. Why?
Tomorrow’s weather might suit Une Rose a little better. ⛄?
Oh yes, I ran errands today so that I don’t have to even open the door tomorrow. Stay warm, my friend.
Thanks! I have the same general plans as you… no need to set foot outside at all. Made sure to get groceries yesterday, which turned out to be the right decision. I avoided the crowds getting their Super Bowl goodies!

So, someone in the comments there says it is because they could not register the name in China.
Intimus Perfume for the farmers market this morning. After the shower a Byredo I think
Beautiful temperatures outside
Thinking of watching some Oscar nomination films this week, started with hand of God. Anyone seen it?
I noticed Byredo increased their perfume prices by $6.00.
If it’s an increase for a full bottle, it’s almost nothing and I say why even bother? Chanel price increases are eye-watering.
Yeah, they don’t mess around, $50 a crack!
A reviewer did a video about a week ago ranting about Chanel’s huge price hikes. I was thinking of buying Boy or Misia this coming spring but now I’m not sure. I guess they have plenty of market for their price hikes but I am not their target audience. It seems like they have to be pricing themselves out of the market at some point?
Bergdorf Beauty Gift Card event includes the Les Exclusifs. Sometimes it changes but entry-level starts at $250. The line is not on the website so you have to work with an SA. Please email me if interested. The SA I normally work with has a concussion but I hope she’s all recovered!
I bought Coromandel and 31 Rue Cambon a few years back. Since neither need very sprays it they have lasted for a long time. I see they are $250 no, but I know they were over $200 a few years back so they haven’t gone up in price much. They really are worth the cost IMO. Both Boy and Beige and very nice. I have had samples of them.
Way too many typos and I don’t drink so can’t even blame it on that. I am going to quit making an idiot of myself for the day.
I agree it isn’t that much, but some of the prices, including Chanel and many others, are high to begin with. I remember several years ago I bought a few of bottles of Chanel’s exclusive line. I haven’t looked to see what they are lately. Now I have to go look.
They haven’t changed too much. That’s good in case I need any bub in the near future?
Other than the ones that started life as EDPs, mine were EDTs which means I got them before September 2016. I know for sure I got Coromandel 75mL 2-3 years before that and it was probably around $160ish. At $250 now, it’s a > 50% price increase.
Feeling more hopeful today than I have been in a long time, spring is coming and so is the end of the long dark tunnel of the pandemic. Wearing my beloved Voleur de Roses.
Glad you are feeling more hopeful.
I am glad you feel that way, cazaubon! I do too after having my sister visit. Like there is hope and light.
So glad you’re feeling optimistic today. I too feel that brighter days are around the corner.
Yay you!?
You smell wonderful! ❤️
Very happy to hear that your mood has lifted.
So happy that you feel hopeful!
SOTM is Memoirs of a Trespasser because I find it soothing. I will be spending much of today clearing a path through our under-house storage area because, just as our new back door was about to be installed … they discovered dry rot under the threshold, which lies just above the very back-most wall of the storage room. We (well, they) will now have to rip out part of the tile flooring near that doorway to see how far the damage has traveled. And someone has to come up with a solution to the design flaw that enabled the damage. The mess will still be nothing compared to Johano’s estate’s woes, but still … ?
Yes,still,a mess! The inconvenience of it all is what irks me the most.Hope your problem gets fixed asap!!?✌?
Oh, yuck, SheriG! Not a fun way to spend a Saturday. At least you smell wonderful.
Oh noes!! I’m so sorry.
That’s disappointing. Hope it is fixed quickly.
This sounds very painful. I hope the fix is not too bad.
Sorry to hear about your house woes! Good luck getting it fixed.
Bleurgh on the dry rot discovery! What a PITA!
Thanks everyone for the support! The Mr. and I both got completely filthy and are both totally exhausted, but the path is cleared for Monday! There was so much old junk down there — we moved in 16 years ago and had forgotten what all was stored way at the back of the room. High time we sorted it and dumped a lot of it. Post-very-long-shower I switched to Paris-Deauville, topped off with red wine and ibuprofen.
I can’t believe it’s almost mid-February already.
I’m in Radical Rose this Saturday.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CZ36rqPjXFG/?utm_medium=copy_link
It’s 10°C and overcast, not what you’d expect for winter, but I’ll take it — it can melt some of this snow that keeps accumulating. (It’s going back to the minus-twenties next week.) I’m wearing CSP Vanille Ambre, no p’ticklar reason, I just felt like it.
We had a gorgeous day yesterday, then snow today. Oh well, it has to end eventually!
Yup
Well I see am on today’s rose train with Rose Barbare, over some lingering Elixir des Merveilles. Hooray for radio – my preference over television anytime, because I can keep my own world in front of me even if I get caught up in something that is on. I love to listen to the Indianapolis 500 on Mr. Mossy’s old transistor radio as I move around in the yard or house on race day. I also will listen to at least some of the Super Bowl on it. Have a great weekend, all! I’ll keep reading comments and getting new sampling ideas from everyone.
I have to ise my Rose Barbare too! I have a FB, plus 30mL (dregs of the fountain, I guess) and also just found a 20mL travel spray ?
Started this day with a few drops of vintage Knowing, then Paloma Picasso EDT.
Did a longish walk in the sun today, then some household chores. Dinner was Khoresht-e-Rivas, persian beef stew with saffron and rhubarb, one of my fave recipes. I love everything saffron….
Those are both some hard-core eighties chypres!
I have a mini bottle of knowing from a sample set that i got gifted from a patient in the 90ies, strong stuff
I love saffron, too — sometimes I just put a few threads in hot water, and drink that like tea…..
Oh that sounds good.
That Khoresht-e-Rivas sounds delicious!
Definitely a day to stay home. We’re experiencing some wild weather from former Cyclone Dovi. It’s downgraded to a tropical storm and the worst of it is north of here, but we’ve still got a lot of wind and rain. The protesters camped out at Parliament and blocking streets will be very damp and muddy by now.
I’m hoping the weather has calmed a bit by late afternoon, we are invited to a great nephew’s 5th birthday.
Meanwhile, more sample testing. I’m quite enjoying Omnia Profumum Ambra, it’s quite a sweet amber, but still on the OK side of sweet.
Hope you made it to that party Gaynor!
Mitsouko for me, always interesting. Getting ready to put poppyseed lemon scones in the oven, then II intend to have one or two of them with butter and bitter orange marmalade and some turmeric chai tea. Saturday afternoon down time! Hope everyone has the chance to do something they really want to over the weekend! You all smell marvelous…
Sounds delicious.
Ooh, those scones sound scrumptious! The scones I make are stones. Boo.
I use half wheat flour and half a gluten free flour. I use the recommended amount of baking powder, but I stir it into the really well to make sure is is distributed. I read somewhere that too much sugar will make them get hard so I cut back on the sugar by 25% since I slather them with jam anyway. I treat it like pie dough, chilled butter, chilled water, stir up quickly, leave lumpy and make drop scones rather than trying to make them look pretty- the less I stir, the better they come out. Quick and tasty are my goals…
I thought you were avoiding sugar altogether when you can? Do you have cheat days?
Yes ma’am, scheduled cheat days, every 23 days…
That’s a lot of discipline! I was going to ask why every 23 days bit I won’t ?.
What I really want is one of those scones!!!
Here’s a virtual one…!
Quick note to all who sent comments yesterday about Kerry and Dingle — holy moly, you weren’t kidding. It is ASTOUNDINGLY beautiful. We had unexpectedly clear weather today for our six-hour archaeological tour, and are currently recovering from that (and from our second excellent seafood dinner in as many days) while watching the Irish-language broadcast of the women’s GAA Irish football match between Dingle and Galway. I’m in Dzing! again; enjoying it a lot. Will probably thunk it next week. (Am I right that it is discontinued? I don’t see it on their website. A pity.)
Whoops, it’s *Donegal* vs. Galway (they abbreviate it DNG, and we really only know Galway’s jerseys and colors, so I’ll forgive myself the error this time — but apologies to any Donegal supporters!).
Traces of last night’s bedtime Cartier Must for the first couple hours this morning. 1 spray is so potent! I love it’s green ambery vanilla.
This morning topped off with Houbigant Quelques Fleur. Mmmmm lovely.
Anything vanilla is wonderful, even the sickly sweet ones although I know this was not one of the sweetly sick.
Lol, you and my friend Jen would get along perfectly. She never met a vanilla she didn’t like 😀
Had a relaxing day, chose to run errands tomorrow instead
Essence Rare was SOTD but tonight I am in VC&A Rose Rouge, a little on the sweet, jammy side but pleasant.
My VC&A Rose Rouge is mocking me and wants to be worn. I will wear it in combination with something else. I haven’t come up with the combo yet.
I’ve tried layering Rose Rouge with a couple of things, and it seems rather versatile! I remember adding an incense to deepen it, maybe it was Incense Flash. And I also once tried it with Ginger Picante to zing it up a bit. I think a citrus would also work very well. Enjoy experimenting!
Great ideas! I have the a specific incense with which to try it!
What a good idea to pair it with something else. Let us know what you chose in the end.
I couldn’t wait to try it out so I combined with Tauerville Incense Flash and it was excellent!
Rose Rouge is lovely. I bought it blind and it does overlap a lot with Lancôme Parfait de Roses to me, but still happy to have it. You smell wonderful.
Thank you Cazaubon, I was curious about Parfait de Roses now discontinued so it’s good news that they are similar.
Thank you for the inspiration! The Tuberéuse Criminelle from this morning is fading and I’m going to spritz with Rose Rouge and head out the door for a sunny afternoon walk.
P.S. I’ve been preparing for a meeting on Friday with my accountant and it’s driving me crazy. Can I just say how much I dislike 1099s?!
It’s sweet and bright, hope you had a lovely walk and forgot about the accountant for the moment and that everything will go well Friday.
Huzzah for a relaxing (relazing?) day!
Thank you Jalapeno, every once in a while we need one of those.
Especially now. Taking a break to decompress is vital!
Today’s soup is Balenciaga, temps in the low 50’s, and now we’re supposed to get snow tomorrow. February, you sneaky thing you.
It is still snowing light powder today…
Happy Saturday, or I’m my case it’s Wednesday. Very late to this party today because I was very busy watching the backs of my eyelids! ?
However, I’m now in the land of conscious and wearing several sprays of the fabulous Vetiver Oriental by the Bug Daddy Himself, Serge Lutens. Love this one a whole lot!
Enjoy your weekend all you normal folk! This abnormal folk is working again tonight and I’ve just woken to an ocular migraine…?
On my! Several typos there…?
I like “Bug Daddy!”
Hope you feel better before you have to begin working.
Sorry to hear about your migraine. Rest up!
Thought that “Bug Daddy” was great!
Sorry that your day started off with migraine, though. That sucks, hardcore.
I hope your headache went away! And that T-Rex is looking mighty regal in a bunch of close up pictures…but still with the knowing side-eye!
Hope your headache is better soon!
Oooh, ocular migraines are no picnic. I hope you’re feeling better now.
Joining a few of you in a rose scent today, I wore Rose Cherie. It’s 80 degrees here today, so maybe not the best choice. I prefer Rose Cherie when I wore it in cooler weather. Violet is definitely not a warm weather note for me.
We attended a fun Chinese new year celebration at my son’s school today. It was postponed from a week or so ago, due to a Covid outbreak in one of the grades. All is well now! I really enjoyed the festive lion and dragon dances.
With the upcoming CP, I might use it as an excuse to finally order some samples from Luckyscent. I have many sitting in my cart for ages and ages. Definitely going to add Ambra Aurea sample to the cart too!
Rose Cherie just may be my next Guerlain purchase!
I tried VC&A Rose Rouge and Tauerville Incense Flash today – so good! If I saw my SSS Incense Pure travel spray first, that is probably what I would have selected to pair up with Rose Rouge but the combo with Tauerville was excellent. Thanks for the tip.
Yay, I’m so happy the layering combo worked for you! I’ve been very inspired by last week’s CP to try more pairing and layering combos.
Rose Cherie is lovely. It works much better on me than other violet/rose types like Misia and Lipstick Rose.
My official sotd was Shalimar edp. I went to the mall with my daughter after work though, and sampled the new Black Opium Elicit Green. It is supposed to have a fig note, but to me it smells exactly like the original. I like it though.
The mall was having some sort of booth event. I stopped to look at some Avon perfumes at the Avon table. I was only allowed to sniff the pre sprayed cards. Too bad because I might have bought one had I been able to really smell them.
Aw, that’s a bummer about the Illicit Green. I was hoping for something a little different from the OG Black Opium.
I haven’t done a side by side. There is possibly a subtle difference? Idk but I love the green bottle.
I am a fan of that bottle, too! It’s just a little too much, in a good way. But if this makes sense, I am just “la, la, not listening” to the Black Opium series. A preemptive way to avoid one rabbit hole.
Thanks for the report on the new Black Opium. I’ll still try it when I see it. Nordstrom carries the line although in the overflow section.
Popping in with an early Song of the Day pick for World Radio Day:
https://youtu.be/Gi9a7IdRiBI
SOTD = Alien Les Parfums de Cuir EdP. Inspired by lillyjo, I finally opened my bottle of that today. And I got the bottle back when it came out! Sometimes I perfume-procrastinate…
Get out!
How did you manage to wait so long! Lucky you with a full bottle now!
I meant to do a radio song too.
You picked a great one! I remember being about 10 or 11 and my friends older brother saw the Ramones. He caught a guitar pick. Him showing it to us was like looking at gold!
I didn’t *mean* to wait for so long. It just kinda happened that way. I suspect life was crazy at that time, and I just stashed the bottle in a safe place for later.
GREAT Ramones story!
Wow, the perfume must have aged well!
Oh, it has! ?
I saw the Ramones perform when I was in high school. They only played for a few minutes when someone threw a vodka bottle on the stage and it hit the drummer. That was the end of the concert.
Boo! That was a crappy way to end a concert, IMO.
What an event to open your limited edition of Alien which is ever fascinating to me but maybe too much for me to wear.
The leather Alien and the Taste of Fragrance Alien are not as high-intensity as the original. I can actually get away with wearing 3 sprays of those. I wouldn’t dare do that with the OG Alien!
Great song! I loved the Ramones.
I’ve always enjoyed hearing their songs on the radio. Somehow, streaming things via Pandora and the like isn’t the same.
Well, after some failed duets this week for the CP, today we have a winner! I spritzed Tocca’s Colette hair fragrance on my hair, and 4160 Tuesday’s Cherry Who parfum on my wrists. Wonderful!
Finally, a duo that worked together!
Cherry Who is great stuff.
I’m in Fendi Theorema today, 8 sprays, hajusuuri style. ?
We’re working on emptying out a storage space this afternoon before The Big Game. They’ve raised the monthly rates on us one too many times!
You smell “great” !
I was always tempted to get a storage unit but never followed through because for me it means never having to decide what stays and what goes (and mostly should be goes).
Wise decision to avoid a storage unit when possible. I’m (obviously) a collector and I married a collector, so we’re sort of doomed! I do find that keeping stuff in the house forces me to address the stuff. If it’s in storage, it’s out of sight, out of mind.
Gahhh, you have my sympathies! Our storage area cleanout yesterday was No Fun At All.
I just caught up on comments. I’m sorry you had such a time with your storage room! Hopefully someone can come up with a design solution for you.
You smell great!
Another gloriously sunny day, taking the dog for a walk down to the beach. Wearing BDK Velvet Tonka.
A glorious sunny day here too, and I’m spending it in Chanel Eau de Cologne, resprayed often as I move furniture around, decide where to rehang art, and do a mountain of laundry. The painting is close to finished (just a few baseboards and one room left), but the back door/dry rot saga is just beginning.
Been watching it lightly snow/sleet/rain for most of the day today. Roads and sidewalks are clear, thanks to the unseasonably warm temps we’ve had lately. I’d say there’s an inch or two on the grass of heavy, very wet snow.
Mr. Jalapeno made a loaf of cottage cheese dill bread in the breadmaker this afternoon, so the entire house smells great right now. A perfect contrast to outside.
SOTD = back in Alien Les Parfums de Cuir.
Happy Sunday all!
Does anyone know if any of the perfumeries are offering Valentines Day discounts?
Watching the Super Bowl in a very half-hearted way wearing Cormorondel
Same here. You smell more exciting than the game! Hahahaha. The game isn’t that bad, I think it’s just that I’m really not rooting for anyone.
Thank you! I’m not rooting either and it makes it so much less stressful:)
