Hump Day, still February, and National Pizza Day. Birthdays: Thomas Paine, Carmen Miranda, J. M. Coetzee, Carole King, Alice Walker. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm leaving later today for a short out-of-town trip, and I'm wearing the duet sure to foster calm in traffic: Diptyque Tam Dao and Diptyque Philosykos.
Reminder: 2/11 will be Duet Friday... wear two perfumes, one on each wrist or arm. You can choose two that seem made for each other, that bring out something special in each other, or that compete for the spotlight? (Suggested by Kanuka, who listed as inspiration Lakme’s flower duet, Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood singing Jackson, Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett crooning softly in your ear, Billy Idol and Miley Cyrus belting out Rebel Yell.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Hello all!
I’m in week two of moving to a different apartment and I’ve left only two perfumes upacked: Ralph Lauren Safari parfum and Tubereuse Criminelle. These weren’t really planned in any way, but what an odd pair. I’m in the Safari parfum today as it’s going to be a long one. I spent the first hour of my day packing dishes!
Drive safe Robin, and be safe everyone!
Good luck with the move! Moving can be both stressful and cathartic.
Hope your move goes just as planned.
An interesting contribution to the duet cp. 😉
Happy landings and you smell wonderful. You are on a safari!
I hope the move goes smoothly and all your dishes make it safely!
Best of luck with the move!
Are you moving a significant distance? Or staying the same town/city?
I’m in Jacques Fath Pour L’Homme: dandyish violets, raspberry-filled chocolates, and amber. Sounds like it shouldn’t work at all, but it so does.
Actually that sounds like a good chocolate bar 🙂
For the CP
Byredo i
Two perfumes to wear while reading. Both remind me of sitting in an attic with a good book.
Slow dance and Bal d’Afrique
Had a very stressful day yesterday with my youngest as we discovered amblyopia in one of his eyes and his other eye isn’t great either. We ran around all day from appt to appt. Glad to catch this while he is young. Being a parent is not easy.
Cappuccinos and fun makeup today.
Biggest of hugs to you ltsg! Yes, being a parent is not easy, but also brings so much joy.☺️ Sending good vibes to your chubby buddha! (Or maybe he is no longer chubby buddha?)
He is 6 now if you can believe it, no longer a chubby buddha but I like the name anyways.
Thanks for you hugs
Parenting is the most challenging job in the world. You are up for it, ltsg.
Oh dear! I have that–and also was diagnosed as a small child. I had to wear a patch over one eye for awhile. Let’s hope (I assume) that there are new modes of treatment that can help straighten out Chubby Buddha’s gaze. He’s such a little doll, and I know you’re worried, but you are doing a great job! He knows you’re looking out for him.
That patch is still a mode of treatment. First they will start with the glasses and then if that doesn’t seem to work they will move on with the patch.
I agree! He is a doll! His attitude is so nonchalant about the whole thing. He told all the parents at the bus stop that he needs glasses and that he picked out the coolest pair.
Yay for his good attitude – I am sure he will look very cool indeed!
Rocking an eyepatch is a very cool look too. Sounds like he can’t help but look cool whatever his treatment is. 🙂
Hey, pirates are in style! If he ends up having to wear the patch, he’ll be the coolest kid on the block!
Sorry to hear about the stressful day! My little guy has been having some social issues as school, and I was just thinking: he was so easy for a few months there—I must have gotten cocky! Being a parent is no joke. Hoping for a speedy and tolerable solution for yours.
There is a little buddhist saying “acknowledge the wave but stay with the ocean”
A good mantra for any trying times
Eye appointments are especially taxing on kids, and their parents. Too much sitting still staring into little holes (or “follow my finger”) or resting your chin and forehead just so on hard bars. And too many adults too close. And the eye drops that sting, or those stooopid plastic sun glasses. No wonder it was stressful! I hope you get a plan soon. Cappuccinos and fun sound just about right.
Yes to all of that!
The promise of a NY slice afterwards kept him in good spirits
Great, big hugs, LTSG!
Just last night, little She-ra said out of the blue when she got out of the shower, “Is doing parenting sometimes hard?”
I answered within a fraction of a second, “Yes, yes it is.” ehaehehe ? The toughest job you’ll ever love…some might say…depending on the day… 😉
Sending you lots of supportive hugs! It sounds like your little guy has such a good attitude, which is really half the battle.
Mine was born with visual disability. I’ve been dealing with all this (glasses, patching, contacts) since he was six months old. I’m happy to share tips, support, listen if you want to chat!
Your little one will be so grateful for his mother.
Poor you. My son had to wear a patch and bifocals full time for several years, don’t know how he did it. I hope your makeup adds a sparkle to your day.
Thanks all!
Perfume and makeup cheer me up!
Ugh- your sweet little Buddha!
You smell like a wonderful hug!
Thank you!
Amazing now that Slow Dance is quieted down into a skin scent its very sweet..like a sweet hug!
I remember a story line in the “Peanuts” comic strip ages ago, where Charlie Brown’s little sister Sally had amblyopia. She had to wear the eyepatch for a while.
Your Chubby Buddha is taking the whole experience with a wonderful attitude.
Oh my goodness, I had the same patch when I was in kindergarten. This will date me, but at the same time that I had the patch, my mother gave me a Toni home perm. It was far more dreadful than the patch, believe me! My mom thought she was doing something fresh and fun, and I was just horrified. Bless her good intentions – she wanted to do something that would make me feel pretty. My family and I still laugh about it. If it’s one of those days when I get up on the wrong side of the bed, it’s a Toni home perm day! ? I’m send you piles of good wishes. It sounds like you have a wonderful boy.
Big hugs. Being a parent is indeed hard.
I thunked a decant of Safran Troublant today. This was the decant that introduced me to this scent, of which I already have a full bottle. Love it.
It is a good one!
Good work on Project Decant!
I’m thinking of making that half of my diet for Friday, the other half being T4T.
Good choice Robin, Tam Dao is always my go to when traveling. Have a safe trip!
I’m in Molecule 01.
Thanks for the good sleep wishes yesterday, I slept like a rock last night! As expected. I did have one of my stress dreams though, it was the week after finals and I realized I didn’t go take my English final. Not sure where that came from since I’m not feeling particularly stressed right now. Just regular life stress lol.
My car said 36 on the way into work. Heat wave! And yes, I did see someone in shorts as I drove through campus.
Shorts!
The guy I hired to plow our driveways wears shorts all the time, in all weathers.
This be my nephew ?
Yay for your better sleep! I used to have dreams well into my 20s and 30s that I was back in high school taking AP calculus and chemistry again and wasn’t going to be able to finish my homework in time before school started…then I would wake and be so relieved that I just had to go to work… 😉
2 guys by me wear shorts year round. The tops come off in the summer. Wherever.
Those dreams are the worst! Mine is usually that I’m back in high school orchestra, but I’ve forgotten how to play my oboe so it sounds like there is a dying duck in the auditorium.
I’ve been reading about the pandemic and all of the associated life changes have essentially raised everyone’s baseline level of stress, such that the peaks and valleys of everyday stress are higher than they would have been pre-pandemic. I image that as a result, things that might not have caused stress dreams in the past may cause them now.
I used to have those kind of stress dreams well into my 40’s. I’d end up forgetting the combination to my locker.
This. I think I had the locker-combination dream last year, for the first time in ages. I suspect it will never be gone completely.
Good morning.
I agree, good perfume choice Robin.
Sotd is JM again (I will do this all week!) Nectarine Blossom & Honey on the left and Blackberry & Bay on the right.
Currently drinking genmaicha. I just love the warmness of the toasted rice.
Oooh, you smell amazing!
Genmaicha is tasty stuff for sure!
Yes…it is funny but I drink hot tea all year but genmaicha only in winter.
Wearing Boyfriend oil and Dame New Musk oil, delightful together. And it’s sunny and in the mid 30s, yay!
That sounds really nice. Oils seem to play well together.
At the home where I’m staying after my knee surgery (at the kind invitation of a friend), there was a pet rabbit outside in the front yard yesterday eating grass. The two girls here brought him (?) in and got him into a dog pen. They are looking for the owner, presumably someone in the neighborhood. It is an adorable small, brown and white lop-eared bunny. I looked things up and consulted friends, and we tried out various things for the rabbit to eat. His favorite is cilantro–and also apples. He’s small and possibly young, but doesn’t seem too shy or scared. Such a cutie, and so incredibly soft! I posted pics and a short video on Instagram.
I only brought a few small bottles and samples here with me, and right now I’m wearing Tom Ford Noir. It must have been a sample I got with something I purchased awhile back. It’s the men’s I think. Patchouli and a lot of spices, a really nice rose is in there too.
I saw the bunny for his IG appearance. He reminds me of the bunny I had when I was little with the floppy ears. Adorable.
Glad you are healing at a friend’s house and that you have a hoppy distraction. ;)?
Wishing you a comfortable recovery. I love your friend has taken you in and is caring for you.
Bunny! Bananas, parsley, Timothy hay (can be found at pet stores, Chewy?) and if you are in a legal state and know growers, fresh marijuana leaves.
I never had a house bunny, but I’m going on someone else’s words who did. I found the Mj leaves interesting, but the outside bunnies love my kale, so there might be something to it.
???
Hope you are feeling more comfortable today. Nice to have a rabbit for company.
TF Noir is great. I have a mini from someone here (Lisa D?) and really enjoy it.
PS the bunny sounds adorable! Hope your pain is well managed and you’re as comfortable as possible.
Wishing you a swift recovery.
Wishing you a quick recovery!
Sending healing vibes for a quick and uneventful recovery. The bunny sounds like a nice distraction. They are so wonderfully soft!
Aw, I hope that cute lil bunny finds its way back to its people!
Hope that your knee continues to heal without incident.
Sticking with brand companions in Fat Electrician and Jasmin et Cigarette—pretty good together.
I’m teaching a favorite book this week, so as long as I pretend all the nonsense in the world doesn’t exist, it’s a good week! Having a reason to wear at least two perfumes a day doesn’t hurt either.
What book are you teaching? I’m always looking for new books to read.
The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien. Certainly not new, but I never tire of guiding students through its unusual but powerful structure.
Such a great book! I love Tom Hardy, but I’m worried that the movie won’t do the book justice.
I still get chills when I reread! I just can’t imagine it on film. It short circuits my brain!
One of my favorites, too! I took an American Lit/American Wars class in college and this is one of the books about the Vietnam war I highlighted.
Thanks for the recommendation – I’m on it!
I’m struggling with the pretending all the nonsense in the world doesn’t exist – need some better distractions!
I was listening to the news this morning and they mentioned the Bosphorus Strait, so naturally I reached for Traversée du Bosphore. I love the sugary rose and almond goodness. Then I put Dans Tes Bras on the other arm because it is another uniquely sweet scent. I am happily sniffing away – it’s a good combination. One of my students just told me I smell like a unicorn! ?
That sounds like a good combo, although I don’t really perceive DTB as sweet.
What an awesome perfume compliment!
2nd that — it’s perfect!
I love these kids to pieces. High schoolers will always be brutally honest, so if I’m told I smell like a unicorn, that’s as good as money in the bank! ?
Safe travels, Robin!
Thank you for all your well-wishes for my dog Yei yesterday. No improvement so far. Still, I want to believe he will recover. It is quite complicated this time.
Another day at home and wearing Serge Lutens La Fille de Berlin.
On my second cup of plain coffee and ready to go out for a walk. It is a sunny day in the lower 40’s. Summer arrived! ?
Happy Wednesday!
Sending get well wishes to your pup.
Thank you.
Poor Yei ? We’re sending speedy recovery wishes your way!
Thank you, Deva.
I had a cat that defied gravity for a while. He was well-known in the neighborhood, nicknamed “the Mayor.” The vet said he wasn’t suffering, and so we kept him inside fulltime, gave him the medicine prescribed, and spent many more months with him. I hope Yei does okay. Keep us posted.
Thank you, OF! Your comment gives me hope. Looking forward to a better day for him tomorrow.
You smell wonderful and I have your same wonderful weather. Just got back from a walk. I wonder if Yei could sit out in a sunny spot? We have no breeze and I could really feel warmth on my face. I did not even need gloves, which is rare for me if its under 60 degrees.
Thank you, MB! ?
It is gorgeous outside! ?
I wished Yei had come outside with me, but one of his medications makes him very sleepy, so he is all the way back under my bed sleeping. I can’t reach him. Tomorrow is going to be sunny and in the lower 50s, so I hope I can take him out for at least a couple of minutes. Will report back!
Sending more well wishes and hugs for Yei!
Thank you, Tulipani!
Is Yei home?
He is. Depending on how he does today, we will decide if he needs to go to the hospital tomorrow. Crossing fingers something good happens today.
? for improvement. G seemed better the second day home, usually.
Hope you are doing well, too.
Hope Yei will recover from what’s ailing him, maybe the medication will kick in tomorrow. Taking him outside is such a good idea.
Thank you, Aurora! ?
Hoping that you and Yei can take advantage of the nice weather in the next couple of days! Sending more healing vibes, too.
Thank you, Jalapeno! Temperatures will be great until Friday. Hope I can get Yei out for a while this week.
Had to come down to Phoenix to be sardined in a room with complete strangers for a few hours. Not my idea of fun but sometimes you just have to jump through the hoops. Ugh.
Wearing Bvlgaria Omnia for this nonsense. Smelling good, but I’m a bit disgruntled nonetheless. I intensely dislike having to do this, although it’s not as bad as it used to be. Only a couple hours in class (hoping to get out earlier!??) where as back in the day it was a full 8 hours… ?
Happy Humpday ✌?
Hope the hours go very fast and you can be out of there soon!
The class was cut down from 2 hours to 1.5, so yay for that! But it took me an hour and a half to get there and two hours back, so it was an all day extravaganza. I just really resent having to do work related stuff on my day off. But, it’s done for another two years so I can cross it off my “To Do” list. ??
Omnia will get you through..
It did get me through! I was even well behaved despite the fact that someone didn’t register correctly, then wasted 15 minutes of class time arguing with the instructor about it. I was contemplating a throat punch, but Omnia said, “No Girl, it’s cool! Chill!” ?
Swirly eyes indeed. I hope the training will actually help you!
Well, I had to pay over $65 for a text and $165 for the class, so I think it helped the AHA more than it helped me. Besides which, I’m not a fan of the AHA anymore since their new CPR Guidelines for providers say we should NOT pause to apply PPE before beginning resuscitation efforts on Covid Positive patients…?
Big hugs, Deva and hope you get more elbow room soon.
Got a whole table to myself! Must be my RBF! ?
Are those classes for yearly recertification?
ACLS renewal every two years.
These things can’t get over quick enough!
Glad that your class is done and dusted for another 2 years.
Yes, and I’m hoping to not do it ever again. My RN license is up for renewal in April of next year, and I hoping to not have to renew it as well…??
A family member is filling out an application to adopt a lab puppy. So Sydney can become a big sister instead of a little sister. I am currently in no 5 edt today.
Congratulations!!!!
Wonderful! Enjoy the new furry addition to the family!
That’s great news, Dawn.
Yay for a new puppy! ?
Tough week has made for too little sleep. Bumbling through in a discontinued beauty from the old days of SSS, Sienna Musk. Maybe it is because there is such a high percentage of natural ingredients in this one (it isn’t one of Laurie’s “naturals” I don’t think, but still. . . ) I get the teensiest whiff of something turning initially. Goes away after about 10 seconds, but it is a good prompt to wear this one more often. No good to me turned. Perfume lesson for life #53.
Maybe only that one note will turn; I am a big fan of the vintage scent hunt, and I often power through a stale or musty phase for eventual delights. But of course, wearing them fresh IS better.
“No Good to Me Turned” would make a terrific, if mystifying, motto on a t-shirt!
I agree!
Excellent idea!
Hope your sleep improves. I have a cool snuggly blanket ( you know the one) that never fails to make me feel warm and loved ( and makes me laugh, too, because it probably “manifests sleep”).
I want the t-shirt! I tried 2 bottles of TDC Bois d’Iris where the top notes had turned and I had to wait for the rest of the fragrance to reveal itself. I wondered if the tops on the TDC bottles were to blame. I finally found a fresh bottle and could smell what all the love for this fragrance is all about.
SotD Synthetic Jungle & I am really liking this one. It has quite distinct phases of floral and green but I am still trying to figure out what specifically I am smelling. I seemed to get a bit of rose for the first time; don’t know if that’s in the named notes or not. Safe travels Robin, and I so seldom know any of the perfumes you wear that it takes putting on two I guess. 😀 Your Do Son smells wonderful!
You smell so springy!
Robin, you smell fantastic! My Duet of the Day is Paris-Deauville over Shikai Melon Cucumber shower gel, and boy do I smell fresh and clean. The paint project continues, and we might get to reclaim our living room soon. And for those who remember my tree-removal saga, the replacement tree finally made it into the ground yesterday! I went out to welcome it to the yard, introduce it to its neighboring trees, and remove its tags. It has leaf buds already, so I’m hoping the months it spent in a container in the side yard didn’t damage it too awfully much.
I need to smell you!
What kind of tree did you have planted?
Come on over! You’ll have to smell around the paint fumes though. ? Our new tree is a Persian Ironwood (parrotia persica), variety “Vanessa”. We had a huge tree removed (it died during last summer’s heat wave), and because it was a “street tree” we were required by the city to plant a replacement chosen from a specified list. Vanessa was our favorite from the list. We would have liked a maple tree instead, but apparently the powers that be consider our city over-mapled. ?
On my way! Maybe Corona ? will only smell good stuff!
I looked up your tree and it is beautiful! Very maple-ish. ?
Glad that your tree is in it’s proper spot now!
Apostrophe abuse! Should be “its” up there.
LOL! One of my pet peeves. ?
Mea culpa! Yesterday I was not the sharpest pencil in the case…
Swamped at work…have been doing the CP but not posting. Today I tried CBIHP Black March with Memory of Kindness. The Black March is really dominating this combo. Yesterday I tried SSS Velvet Rose with Diptyque Florabello, which was kind of random. Velvet Rose dominated a bit, but it wasn’t a bad pairing. Monday I did Kyoto vs Ouarzazate, which was a fun comparison. I was hoping that the incense would promote calm for the last hoop Ockeghem Tween had to jump through for school applications, but instead it was calm to get us through the aftermath and disappointment. I don’t know why I put her through this whole process, but I guess she’s learning to deal with disappointment?
Have a good trip, Robin!
I love Black March! So unique.
Aw, sorry Ockeghem Tween did not get the placement she wanted!
And surprised, would have thought Memory of Kindness would win that battle, I think of it as so strong.
I have Black March in the water perfume spray, and Memory of Kindness in the roll-on absolute. I really hate the fact that he sells the absolutes in roll-ons…roll-on bottles are the WORST, though I’m sure he has a good reason for doing so? Anyway, method of delivery is probably why Black March won.
My duo for today are centered around iris. Orris Tattoo and Bukhara. They turned out to be quite different. I think I should’ve paired Orris Tattoo with Prada’s Infusion d’Amande. I’m trying to decide if I might want more of either of those.
Those are two beauties and you smell amazing:)
You smell fabulous! I’m very curious about the Prada.
Bukhara got a fair amount of love here a while back.
In easy-peasy lemon-squeezy pairing of VCA Bois d’Iris and Orchidee Vanille
(no lemons btw)
Easy-peasy is underrated.
You are related to Kanuka in some sort of way today.?
Grey, wet and stormy and dark still but my wrists are in a tropical paradise. VCA Orchidee Vanille on one side and Diptique Eau Moheli on the other. Enough to make me sneeze.
That combo sounds lovely!
Never had a sniff of either, but if it makes a gloomy day tropical-sweet!
Safe and happy travels, Robin!
SOTD: Poop and Peep
Vee, there is Bissell, too! My husband brought it up to the bedroom and sprayed randomly.
Corona: can’t smell her poop.
Corona: I can smell Bissell in my face.
I haven’t cleaned the shag yet, but will then make a very poopy chili for my husband and a nice one for me.
Thanks for the hugs and well wishes, yesterday. I responded to all, very late, after more poop and peep run ins.
I guess the smell of Bissell is better than the smell of what it cleans up? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
O. Bissell is a wonder! Magic! But, I’d take the poop any day over having anything sprayed that close to my face in the a.m.
My sympathies on the ginormous poop cleanup! It can get very old very quickly.
One time I found a cat turd on one of the walls! I interrogated the cats, and asked them all how on Earth one of them managed to drop a deuce on a horizontal surface! Never did get an answer.
Omg! Dying over here! ??
You aren’t a very good detective.?
Tough to top horizontal cat poop, but I have a cat poop story for you. My husband’s work bench (I want a work bench!) was located right next to one of my cat’s litter boxes. He fell victim to her moods and super stinky tootsie rolls. My dog’s poop’s smell is nothing compared to my little stinker of a cat.?
Yeah, cats are champions at dropping butt bombs!
And that should have been a NON-horizontal surface. Aka vertical.
Wearing Orange Sanguine from Atelier cologne today. Since they’re pulling out of the US and on sale at Sephora I thought I’d buy a travel size. I think it’s a very nice smell and I like it but I’m not so enamored that I’m going to be devastated when I inevitably run out. I definitely think it’s a crowd-pleaser perfume, it smells very clean. I am dragging a bit this Wednesday and I kind of wish this had more zing but that wouldn’t fit with the name at all!
Not a purchase worthy review, lol. Thanks for the savings!
Yeah, at under $20 I’m not mad I bought it but I’m not lamenting that it will soon be unavailable!
Orange Sanguine smells good combined with L’Artisan Seville l’Aube.
I’ll have to look into that!
Orange Sanguine has one of the best top notes ever. Too bad it doesn’t last a little longer…
Yeah, I feel like the top notes go pretty quickly! Overall the scent itself holds on for awhile though.
I don’t mind the rest of the perfume. You’re right, it does not fall apart after the top notes fly away.
I bought the small size when it first came out, wore it a few times and then gave it away. So I agree with your assessment 🙂
Gave my new blind bought bottle of Joy (Patou) a first real wearing. I really like it, and the 30ml bottle is pretty too. Yesterday i wore a mix of Mitsouko and Lady Rose Lion, which is a good combination.
All three I have no clue on. Well, I have a new, unopened bottle of Joy from a few years back and a vintage mini black that it might take Hercules to open.
Happy choices!
Wednesday!
SOTD: Layer of Magic In the Air body mist (bbw) with Wild Vanilla Orchid (Floral Street) . I use the body mist to ‘wake up’ in the morning, and i think they layer well with perfumes or colognes later on.
I am still going at both jobs! But I neglected certain tasks at home, so will be taking a day off to complete those tasks. Also, because of an acquisition that the fintech firm did, we had to onboard a bunch of people, which sent us into overdrive. As a result we will get a paid day off, giving me a 4 day weekend at the end of next week. Hurray!
I have a bunny invasion in my garden! The bunnies are not mine- they are my neighbors- and now there are MORE of them. I need to call animal control- despite talking to them, they are not taking steps to control their bunnies. Plus they have nibbled down my overwinter herbs down to NOTHING.
Yay for 4 day weekend!
Boo to bunnies ravaging your garden. I responded about the house bunnies above, but outside ones? I get it. My neighbor had construction going on and could care less. The bunnies lived under her porch. When her home was ready, the bunnies somehow landed at mine. Everywhere.
I use no pesticides or poison, so maybe they prefer my grocery store.
Don’t get me on the chipmunks.
After showering with Muddled Plum shower gel, I decided to do a comparison of plum and spice perfumes. On my left arm is SSS Wood Violet and on the right arm is Shiseido Feminite du Bois. The SSS has very prominent violet leaf with the violet flower plus a low dose of plum and a lot of musky cedar. The FdB is much spicier and plummier and I don’t really get any of the florals in this. Unfortunately, the SSS is overwhelming and headache inducing at 2 sprays. I think I’m pretty sensitive to violet leaf in general but all the ingredients in this feel like they’re working against me. I’ve plopped my little bottle into my “swap away” box.
Sometimes, it is good to have a not wonderful experience with a perfume. You can lean into other notes you like or haven’t investigated.
SSS perfumes definitely have a lot of presence for me. Shrinking violets they aren’t!
Isn’t that the truth! I probably shouldn’t have chosen one on a day my sinuses were already bothering me. At least it helped me weed out my collection.
I’m so over this week!!
L’Heure Bleue was my SOTD…un my mind it was a duet with Apres L’Ondee from yesterday.
Dear Guerlain, you know how to do proper perfumes that pull on my ❤️!!
XO’s
Gosh, April L’Ondee has been on my list forever.
Happy day!
Fighting back against tension and stress with 4160 Tuesdays Truth Beauty Freedom Love. Sure wish I had a more relaxed attitude towards disappointment and uncertainty. My subconscious doesn’t listen to my stern admonishments to let go.
Hoping that the day will bring some peace and joy, it is difficult to fight those background thoughts
Thank you, they are exhausting me at the moment and causing a lot of physical pain in my upper spine, where my tension seems to grip the worst.
What are your favorite perfumes that help you to let go?
Right now light florals and musks. Something non-demanding.
Disappointment and uncertainty are hard feelings to deal with under any circumstances. Maybe one day at a time is too much, try just a few minutes at a time.
I was listening to a video today that gave me a good idea. Rather than trying to fight to get rid of the emotions, just be aware of them and their source and witness them. That’s helping a bit.
That a very Buddhist perspective. It takes time and practice to separate yourself from your emotions, and just observe them in a nonjudgmental way, but it’s really liberating. I hope you find some relief.
The video was by Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, a Tibetan Buddhist teacher. 🙂
I am very similar with my stress and anxiety. I try not to fight it anymore. It’s just exhausting. There are days I wish I was carefree too. A big understanding hug to you ?
I’m no help, cazaubon. You are not alone.
You are also very eloquent in describing exactly what’s troubling you. Your further along than a lot of people.
Sometimes I just shrug and roll with whatever emotions I am feeling at the moment. If I resist or suppress them, they can rebound (usually at the worst possible time). It helps to have a bolthole for those times when things are really bad.
Still unseasonably warm temps but I’m not complaining, just worried about plants getting confused.
I was in Neroli Blanc but now in Jean Patou Heritage collection Que Sais-je, a fruity amber, I almost went with RP Visa but QS-J is working out great today and I wear it less often.
We’re weather twins today! I haven’t seen any signs of plants coming up too early where I am at, though. But I did hear the first mourning doves of the season earlier this week.
Hello weather twin, it seems to me it will be an early spring with bulbs peeking out already.
It’s quite warm here too, got up to 84 I think.
I think the high in Phoenix was 80 today. Couldn’t wait to get out of there! ?
Balmy weather where you are, it was 13C here, it should be 5 or 6.
I am going through my Atelier samples, seeing if there are any I want to get before they become impossible or too expensive to buy. Today is Grand Neroli. It is okay.
I read in the WSJ that both Entertainment Weekly (which is actually Entertainment Monthly) and InStyle (plus some other Meredith mags) will be discontinued in print format. They are going digital only.
It’s a sign of the times. I finally stopped my Saturday / Sunday New York Times subscription because it never gets to me on time nor is it placed in the right area (NOT the sidewalk and I’ve called them on it many times, to no avail). My online subscription is $4 / month and I just have to remember to cancel it in August before it becomes $20 / month.
My mother has had a Sunday NYT subscription for many years. The lack of needed workers is terrible in my town, with newspaper deliveries constantly messed up, so now she gets it via snail mail, 10 days late. She also subscribes to a slew of magazines, all of which are as thin as pamphlets, I tell her she’s keeping print media going all by herself.
That magazine story was one of the leads on my evening newscast.
Wearing MCDI Rose de Siwa and PdR Rose des Neiges today since both a rose-violets with litchi. Rose-violets often don’t work for me because the powdery cosmetic-bag thing can overwhelm me, but these both keep the powder in check. The Siwa is just gorgeous like sitting on a puffy pink pillow. The Neiges does a nice job of conveying a gentle snow; I’m not sure what makes it smell a bit chilly but it does. I was expecting a bit of fruit salad in the Neiges, with litchi, watermelon, and mandarin all listed as top notes, but I couldn’t discern any of them; at most they conveyed indistinct sweetness.
Drinking a pot of english breakfast, and getting both excited and nervous for my stained glass art classes that start tonight. Except for a few department parties in my office parking lot, I haven’t hung out with anyone other than family and a couple of friends since pre-COVID. Hoping my social skills have not deteriorated to those of a gremlin. 🙂 Also hoping not to accidentally slice my hand on the glass!
Nice! Stained Glass Art sounds like a lot of fun and you can be really creative!
I was a kid who proudly colored inside the lines, so this seems like a good fit for me. 🙂
That stained glass art class sounds like it’s going to be so cool!
I did stained glas for several years, it’s really fun. Good luck!
Hope the class was great! And you were calm and left uninjured.
Phew!
SOTD = Francesca Bianchi Sticky Fingers and Tom Ford Rose Prick
Points for the CP! They compliment each other well, with Sticky Fingers edging out Rose Prick probably due to the fact that I sprayed more of it. A co-worker said I smelled good (hopefully true) and I will give her samples of each. She used the Coromandel I gave her pre-COVID and she said she really couldn’t smell it on herself!
On to a perfume-related question: At a store, I prefer sampling when the brands are grouped by brand. I know some of the popular ones arrange perfumes by classification / dominant note. My reason for the by brand preference is I have never really categorized anything by their classification or dominant note and I really love to see the range of a house. What about you?
I’ll probably repeat this at some point as it is already towards the end of the day.
100% agree on that classification preference.
Wait, so do you prefer by brand or by classification/scent family?
By brand. Definitely by brand.
I’m with you, show me all of a brand.
Yay! Just like me!
Much prefer seeing a brand grouping rather than notes.
And your comment about that stamp last night brought up this little clip in my head:
https://youtu.be/RD1KqbDdmuE
Woot! That clip is so funny!
Luckyscent groups by scent family and I find that confusing and much prefer by brand. But that’s probably because I’m very familiar with the brands. I’m guessing non-perfumistas shop by note/smell.
I think this is a spot on observation!??
Exactly right, especially for niche brands.
You might be onto something and, as lillyjo said below, someone else’s perception of scent may not be mine.
I prefer brand. That’s how I organize my collection.
Plus even though the store might think a perfume is dominant in a certain note, I might think differently.
If I were very organized, it would be by brand. As it is, I do tend to clump like brands together even if they are not in the same cabinet or shelf.
Sticky Fingers strikes again!
I put most of my perfumes according to brand. I would rather see what a store has to offer, because sometimes stores have different inventory.
It did for sure!
Safe travels Robin!
A very sunny and unseasonably warm day here… made it up to 51 degrees F today. (That’s 10.5 degrees C.) Back on the weather roller coaster again this week, since snow is promised for the latter half of the weekend.
SOTD = same as it ever was (for this week) = Celestial Patchouli.
It made it to 41 here today but snow tonight and back to 20 by the weekend!
I’m hoping that the predicted snow doesn’t mess up Spooky kitty’s vet appointment next week.
Now I hear David Byrne in my head. …and you smell great because this is your beautiful perfume!
Thank you allo! David Byrne is not the worst person to have an earworm about, right?
Réalisant mon espoir, je me lance vers la gloire, OK! Yeah yeah yeah!
Celestial Patchouli is such a great name. And yes, now I’ve got David Byrne in my head too!
It is a great name, definitely!
More snow? Superbowl snow?
What is this Celestial Patchouli?
It’s from Sana Jardin. It starts off similarly to the drydown of Tiger By Her Side, with spices and cuddly musk, and morphs into a smoky spicy patch scent.
And yeah, the forecast for my area earlier tonight said snow on Superbowl Sunday. But there were a ton of “Ifs” in that forecast.
I wish the temps would stay steady and I do prefer the cold over the warm.
I think we are stuck on the temperature trampoline for a while, sigh.
Sotds are Cuir Velours and Corpus Equus.
These might continue to be my duet tomorrow…
Hmm, that’s an intriguing combo, need to try it.
Strangely, I also like a little Nuit de Bakélite with a touch of Or Du Sérail.
On another note, would you be interested in any of my Psychologies magazines? I am trying to make my way through them and would love to pass the ones I’ve read to another Francophile. They are a step “deeper” than Psychology Today but really accessible and great for practicing French. If so, I’m at l es l ico rt h e ll AT geee male
Sounds like you found a nice pair.
Today I wore TM Cuir Impertinent. Sitting here sniffing my wrist. This is probably the most realistic tobacco perfume to my nose. It starts off cherry tobacco then turns into a freshly opened pack of cigarettes. I am just now realizing it reminds me of my Dad.
Awwwwwww. That could be a good thing or a bad thing, the perfume reminder.
Yeah it just now came to me. It’s a good thing.
?
Love our TM. You scoop some good ones!
Mmmm, you smell great!
