Wednesday scent of the day 1/26

Posted by Robin on 26 January 2022 201 Comments

It's Hump Day and National Peanut Brittle Day. Birthdays: Bessie Coleman, Paul Newman, Lucinda Williams. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Don't Tell Jasmine by Vilhelm Parfumerie.

Reminder: 1/28 is Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette's birthday. Do whatever you like with the theme (wear a fragrance inspired by Colette or one of her characters? scent a character? scent Leslie Caron in the movie Gigi? Or wear Guerlain Jicky, which Colette is said to have worn.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: top image is Audrey Hepburn in costume as Gigi, for the Broadway play, 1951.

Mugler Day 3: Angel Liqueur de Parfum 2013. Angel for grownups: rich and dark and mysterious, dripping with honey. *Almost* too much. Very Mugler.

Cire Trudon Aphélie for me today. Finally received my First in Fragrance order from a month ago… they sent it without the correct paperwork the first time and the box was returned to Germany. You’d think they would be more experienced and efficient being in business for so long… but at least it arrived intact with lots of nice samples.

Ooh, have fun with the new samples. Sometimes when it’s taken that long for something to arrive, I forget I’ve ordered it so it’s like a little surprise.

    I’m in Molecule 01.
-10 on my way into work this morning.? I was hoping my daughter would have school called off like many in the surrounding area, but no such luck. Blue skies and sun again though, so that’s a win. Tomorrow is supposed to be back up into the 30’s, it’s gonna feel
    like a heatwave.
Strange, strange dreams last night. Not nightmares, but definitely dreams I was happy to wake up and find that they were just dreams.
    Happy hump day!?

You’ve got us beat…only -4 here. The side benefit of these temps is they tend to make me sleep in. Gonna take another hour or so till I can clear-headedly choose a SOTD.

    Byredo 1996 for me.
I tend to wear it a lot doing wintertime.
Today it fits perfect for gloomy rainy day here in Denmark.
It’s definitely a comfort scent for me.
Also the description of the fragrance is for once on point.
I wish the rereleased the candle they did for a limited time, sadly I never got around to buy it, but I bet it was fabulous.

    Wearing and loving Angel Muse.

I have a peanut brittle story! My mother made wonderful peanut brittle, with a light, crisp honey comb texture that melted in your mouth. Long ago when my daughter was little, I decided to make mom’s recipe. You had to have a candy thermometer and it took ages to boil to the right temp, then you add baking soda and whoosh! It foams up in the pot and you immediately pour it into a large, buttered rimmed pan. The saucepan I used was too small so when the whoosh! happened I had to throw it in the prepared pan, where it continued to whoosh! over the edges and all over the counter top. Omg what a mess! We all worked for days chipping that sticky stuff off the (hideous orange formica) counter, which eventually came clean. I had peanut brittle ptsd!

I’m wearing Corsica Furiosa today just because I miss it. A warm weather staple, it doesn’t get as much as when I was living full time in weather >85F and 100% humidity. It’s as lovely as ever!

We just finished a spinach and turkey sausage scramble with toast, still sipping coffee. Fortifying myself for a hike today with a 1000’ elevation gain. If I never post again, you know I have gone space trucking.

I had to add a bit of scramble to T-Rex’s kibble because the last couple of days she hasn’t been interested in eating her breakfast. This is absolutely not like her. She chows down her dinner no problem, but in the morning for some reason she’s not interested. She has a lot of hyperactive bowel sounds in the morning, too. So, if this keeps up I will take her to the vet to get evaluated.

Hope everyone has a swell smell well day! ✌?

I hope T-Rex is feeling more herself soon.

Handing an enabler pin to you after your mention of Colorpop earlier this week. I went down that rabbithole and got several shadows coming to me. Do I need any more? Heck no, but I stumbled onto a 30% off sale that day. I even went out of my comfort zone with a few colors. I think that’s the idea with them!

I hope you have fun with them! They’re always having sales and some of their catalog is available at Ulta if you have one near you. I went out of my comfort zone too, and got a color called “Chirp” which is straight up orange. I put that on the lid, and then toned it down a little with a midtone grey in the crease. Perfectly wearable! Have fun!

I was thinking of wearing Angel Nova on Friday in honor of Mugler but didn’t know if it would really work for Colette.

Am patiently waiting for my orders of Pulp and Fox in the Flowerbed. I feel like a little kid at Christmas, and I am 63 years old! For any nurses out there, this is what this retired nurse has started doing-swooning over nice perfumes.

Wearing Black Hemlock from scent trunk today. Really smelling the resins that MMKinPA mentioned when I asked what they thought of the smell. I think this smells delicious! It also vaguely reminds me of a limited edition bath bomb Lush used to do around Easter, they haven’t reused the scent in years and I still miss it. Which is to say I’m very happy I picked up this perfume!

I watched Macbeth last night with Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand and realised, as I was watching, that the black and white cinematography and simple set made it much easier for me to hear and understand the dialogue. I was not distracted by the busyness of the visuals ( that went with earlier versions) and was completely drawn in. Loved it. Washington is so agile in the way he speaks that his performance felt entirely natural. McDormand not so much. Wearing Chypre Mousse which I almost just wrote as Chypre Mouse. So windy but I slept in my new noise cancelling headphones and it was bliss.

This movie is on my list. Agreed that sometimes Macbeth can be performed with too much stage business. Washington is a treat with Shakespeare- see his earlier film performance in Much Ado with Kenneth Branaugh. But I really want to see McDormand in this!

I felt she had great stage presence but battled with the words. I’d forgotten about Much Ado…must watch it again. Another good film ( documentary) is The Tamed Garden about a Georgian ( country) billionaire who buys and collects massive mature trees and transplants them in his own property. Also brutal.

Branaugh’s version of Much Ado about Nothing has to be the only version where I’m like Beatrice marry the prince, come on you know you want to marry the prince! Denzel was just so good in that role!

I loved it too. The cinematography reminded me of The Seventh Seal. I liked the stripped down set because it felt like they were acknowledging that it is a play, not a movie script, and it works better in a play-like atmosphere. And I thought Denzel Washington was great, but it was Kathryn Hunter’s performance that took my breath away.

I’m in Reve d’Ossian today since I saw a good deal on a partial bottle and needed to make up my mind about it. Unfortunately, while I think the perfume smells great, the overdose of aldehydes gives me a headache and sinus irritation. My body can only take small doses of aldehydes it seems. For example, they don’t bother me at all in Tiger’s Nest.

Eau Duelle for another day of my incense week. I will use up my small decant, but wont need more of it.
Had a dream, where i had lots of miniature live cats all over my clothing, so i could not move or sit down or do anything against it, very strange. Sometimes i wonder what my resting brain comes up with…

Jo Malone Blackberry and Bay cologne is my Sotd.LOVELOVE,I always think of it as ” Iris Poudre’s drydown as a complete perfume”.
Temps are climbing this week,it’s 19:57 here and still 23 celcius. We had a peach colored sunset and I wish I took photographs!

Oo, I love Iris Poudre’s drydown! And I realized last week during Dior week that I have a few fragrances that are entirely about the drydown to me — like Leather Oud, which was a bit much for the first hour but during the latter part of the day I literally wanted to lick my arms…

Oh I totally agree, but I also discovered a couple of “meh” fragrances that are actually spectacular in the drydown,Rochas L’Absolue is the first one that comes to mind.
Iris Poudre is beyond beautiful, but oh boy,the drydown is something else!❤️❤️✌??

SOTD: Jicky (from a split) for Colette. This is gorgeous- even though it is originally from the time period for Colette – and i am sure it has been reformulated- this feel pretty darn modern and fresh, yet quite alluring. It reminds me of YSL Libre in a way.

Racing by to say that I’m wearing ELdO 500 Years. It doesn’t have any connection with the CP, it’s because my FB arrived a couple of days ago.
I got it from a place in Australia that revels in the name Feeling Sexy Perfume. Ghastly name, but good range and good service for anyone in this part of the world looking for perfume sources.

Can you all tell me about your favorite wash-off face masks? I’ve been using some from Peter Thomas Roth for years, but the current stash is almost gone so I’m thinking about changing it up. I like to use them three times a week, and I rotate a different one each day (currently, I’m down to having just three different masks). I’m also happy to hear about any trial size mask kits. Thanks!

    In Amouage Jubilation 25.

Having a much needed big bowl of coffee ice cream to try to make the day more bearable. My patience is being greatly tested at work by my new boss. I am trying to keep it cool, but I do not know for how longer. Delaying a deadline because he wants to apply standards he was used to from his previous company is absolutely unacceptable, especially when he took over just a month ago and we were supposed to submit the project 2 weeks ago. We might considered implementing some of his suggestions for new projects but not when we are ready to turn it over. I feel that this is going to take and ugly turn at any moment. The whole team is about to explode. I am meeting with him sometime this afternoon. Please wish me luck!

My last heating bill was outrageous. I am recommitted to sweaters + sweatshirts before turning the heat up. Growing up, my parents kept the house a smidge warmer than “cool” in the winter; keeping my house warmer than warm as an adult is an expensive form of rebellion and I need to cut it out. :)

Rushing by but it makes me happy to be here, even if only briefly, so hello and good luck to you all in dealing with all that the day contains! My Gigi thought for today was a perfume for the song “The Night They Invented Champagne” but I have no champagne perfumes. So, I’m wearing L’Heure Bleue as it has a peach note that apparently champagne perfumes also contain…That Audrey photo is beautiful! My plan for Friday is to wear a perfume for Audrey, as it seems she was disappointed not to be cast in the film after her success in the role on stage. I’ll wear a Givenchy perfume (because of her friendship with Givenchy himself) and the only one I have is Eau Demoiselle, but it seems like a good choice for young Gigi! Good luck everyone?❤️

Mr. Jalapeno had ordered some KN-95 masks off Amazon, and they showed up yesterday. He ordered ones that look like they’ve been tie-dyed! ? I’ve had good luck with fit on those kinds of masks.

Still crossing fingers and sending good wishes for friends of mine who have COVID. At this point, I am going to assume that no news is good news.

    Good evening NSTers!! ?
SotD = Nouez Moi by House of Sillage. Feel great every time I wear this beauty.

My package with Shalini Fleur Japonais and Paradis Provence has arrived. And oh… this house is on another level. Fleur Japonais smells like the most natural smell I could ever imagine. It is about Sakura and smells just like it hits the spot for that except it has no sweetness. Or put it in other words: it is sweet WITHOUT being perfume-y sweet. It just smells like a blossom straight off a tree… Plus some incense to carry it through. Smells so pretty and natural if a guy would smell it on a woman she could have EASILY said this is my natural smell!! Like blossoms!! Gourgeous.
Paradis Provence is a different type of animal though LOL a beast. A lavender beast. Smells like blueish-purple rows of blooming lavender gently caressed by the wind. Again gorgeous.

PSA: Bergdorf Goodman still has 30% off selected Beauty. Some Shalini perfumes are included. Also, Rakuten had a 10% cash back option yesterday…

In other news, lately, my IG feed has been giving me ads of DeLonghi cappuccino makers. I wonder how that happened since I have not searched for coffee makers ?. I think I can squarely blame ltsg because her stories usually feature said appliance…

My Pinterest feed is completely dominated by chateau gardens, extravagant lingerie, Marie-Antoniette-worthy layer cakes, and gorgeous velvet pseudo-Edwardian couture gowns. I’m like, “Who exactly do you think I am??” Cracks me up every time I open that site!

So it’s not just the phones spying on everyone, it’s the websites, too? ???

Nothing is safe anymore. I saw a documentary once on a head of state. He has no electronics in his office and if he making a call, it’s via a landline. This was no more than 3 years ago.

Yeah. I’ve had a lot of conversations with both Mr. Jalapeno and my brother about how privacy is an illusion these days. It’s still not pleasant to be reminded of it.

Back to yesterdays convo about Zoom lol! But I agree if there are things like pets that would distract you then camera off. But even as an administrator, who frequently runs Zoom meetings and Skype video calls, I almost always have my video on. But that being said, I don’t have to worry about Nacho being crazy (just snoring which is what mute is for haha). A lot of my zooms were actually in office, just held that way in an effort to cut down on in-person meetings during Covid.

Chiming in late to say that I spent the day in Nanadebary Bronze, and was Little Miss Fix-it all morning — replaced the light bulbs in my makeup mirror and patched a hole in a very old flannel shirt from Banana Republic’s earliest catalog days. Might have been the very first thing I ever mail-ordered (anybody remember that phrase?), and aside from the hole (where the bottom-most button is) it has held up perfectly!

Well good for you, and YES I remember actual mail order! And I remember when Banana Republic was, well, whatever it was — very different from what it is now.

LOL! And yes, Banana Republic today is a very far cry from what it was when I ordered that flannel shirt. Progress — sometimes good, and sometimes … rather less than good.

Dune today. No other reason except I just wanted it. And it truly hit the spot all day!
