Yves Saint Laurent has launched Black Opium Illicit Green, a new spicy floriental gourmand fragrance for women. Black Opium Illicit Green is a flanker to 2014's Black Opium, which was a flanker to 1977's Opium. The color was inspired by an Yves Saint Laurent green fox fur coat from 1971's Scandal collection.
Black Opium Illicit Green was developed by perfumer Nathalie Lorson in collaboration with Parisian mixologist Margot Lecarpentier, and was inspired by a modern mocktail. The notes include pear, green mandarin, fig leaf, orange blossom, jasmine, fig accord, coffee accord, vanilla and patchouli.
Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium Illicit Green is available in 30 and 75 ml Eau de Parfum.

I know you can’t tell much from the list of notes they provide, but that really does not sound very nice. With a name like Illicit Green, you’d think they’d have gone for a proper absinthe scent.
Well, it’s not easy being green!
I like the psychedelic fruit graphic. I can’t recall a single Opium flanker, although I know I must have sampled them dozens of times. But I give it to YSL on the marketing of this one.
Well, they’re working with florals + coffee. Mandarin & fig might have been a better choice? But of course I have not smelled it.
They lost me at pear, alas, but the ad photo is lovely!
Pear was not listed in any of the descriptions, only in the notes, so perhaps it is light. The emphasis seems to be on adding mandarin and fig to the original Black Opium.
Yes, I love the photo!
Lots of sultry greenness!

Hey-o, just in time for The Batman and Zoe’s role as the Cat!
But seriously: I rather liked BO Neon(it was amazing in last year’s heat when I tried it)2, and I think I may like this.
Maybe I am grumpy and tired but the picture and copy give me a massive headache.
Word salad much?
I am IN AWE for this one. Believe it or not my fellow mates on NST, I have never smelled Black Opium yet. I wish I lived anywhere close to a Sephora or a shopping mall but I don’t.
I LOVE the ad picture for Illicit Green and love the name and love the bottle design with the green. I want to skip sampling this one all together and just blind buy order a bottle of it just to have it.
I acquired a bottle of the original Opium soon after it launched in 1977 – at a cost of GBP 25.00! I would never have dreamt of, & certainly couldn’t have afforded to, spend that amount of money on fragrance at that point in my life, but I was working for a US oil & gas service company who had set up an office here in Aberdeen, Scotland (ah the good old ‘oil boom’ years!) & was given a GBP 25.00 Harrods gift voucher as part of my Christmas bonus – I was thrilled to be able to spend such a sum on something that was a luxury as opposed to a necessity! So when visiting my parents in Surrey for Christmas I went up to London & duly exchanged the gift voucher for a full-size bottle of Opium – the bottle had, if memory serves, a gold cap &a tassel which matched the bottle colour, & there was a ‘porthole’ cut out of the bottle cover (which I assume was a plastic of some sort) so you could see the juice inside. I adored the fragrance & was very pleased with myself for having such a ‘posh’ perfume!
What a fun story!
Thank you – it was a very big deal for me at the time as I was already interested in & exploring the world of fine fragrance but couldn’t afford to indulge! Thankfully times changed for me reasonably soon thereafter & I have never looked back!
They’ve flanked opium to death at this point. Could they be so kind to just give us one opium pot homme spin-off?
