It's the first Friday in January. Our community project for today: wear a fragrance to match Very Peri, Pantone's color of the year for 2022. ("Displaying a carefree confidence and a daring curiosity that animates our creative spirit, inquisitive and intriguing PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri helps us to embrace this altered landscape of possibilities, opening us up to a new vision as we rewrite our lives. Rekindling gratitude for some of the qualities that blue represents complemented by a new perspective that resonates today, PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri places the future ahead in a new light. We are living in transformative times. PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri is a symbol of the global zeitgeist of the moment and the transition we are going through.")
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I was pretty much stumped with Very Peri until Kanuka mentioned hyacinth yesterday. I'm in L'Artisan Jacinthe des Bois. We have 3 inches of snow on the ground so it's also working as 'a new vision as we rewrite our lives' and placing 'the future ahead in a new light'.
Reminder: 1/14 will be Foody Friday...wear a gourmand or foody fragrance. (This is a repeat from 2015)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows detail from one of the four Very Peri wallpapers for Windows 11, free from Microsoft.
Lovely choice of a perfume, Robin!!
Why thank you!
Hyacinth flower in general does make a great fit for a very peri. And wow to own such a vintage L’Artisan beauty!!
Iris Ganache for the community project
Iris twin.
I’m sure you will be a small village 🙂
Iris sibling!
You smell so wonderful.
Until you mentioned it, I never even thought of hyacinth, which is a component (not an important one, I think) of vintage Hermès Amazone. But I’m already dressed for the day in Atelier Cologne Rose Anonyme, the only AC I’ve ever liked enough to buy — and I like it a lot, definitely in my top 10 roses. Nothing periwinkle about it: it’s dark red.
Just started snowing here: over the next 16 hours we’re expected to get up to a foot of snow with 60-80 km/h winds, so a proper eastern howler. Luckily we don’t have to go out in it, and won’t.
Glad you can stay warm, well-scented, and in your nest with that weather. I do always make it a point to walk around my yard a bit in winter storms, though. Growing up in the South, there was always such a mystique about snow and winter storms in my mind.
I grew up in Newfoundland and have lived on the east coast of Canada my entire life. I have had *quite* enough of snow for one lifetime, and yet it continues.
When I was 18 I went on a bus tour of Europe in the fall. In Vienna, it snowed overnight, and the Australians on the tour were properly pixillated the next morning, grabbing handfuls of it and throwing it around and just being delighted. I can see how there’d be a mystique to it, but when it’s a recurrent feature of your life, it does get old.
A foot, that’s impressive.
Not that many years ago we had eleven feet in one season. It just kept coming! There was nowhere to put it after a while so they just kept piling it higher and higher between the streets and the sidewalks, like a maze: there were walls of snow higher than my head, at least six feet high, maybe seven. It was a heck of a thing.
This one looks like it might fizzle out and turn into rain or something. You never know.
Since it’s only January, here’s hoping for a fizzle out!
We had a year like that once, on a slightly smaller scale. But in general we get less snow the last 5 years or so.
Bon courage for your snowstorm! Although as a Newfie you have undoubtedly experienced much worse.
Stay warm!
I’m not doing the CP, as I’m wearing a favorite, Safran Troublant.
That is a good one.
You smell wonderful. Whenever I remember to wear ST, it still manages to surprise me with its unusual nature, even after all these years. There’s nothing else quite like it in my perfume cabinet.
You smell fabulous! I love SF.
ST!
When I saw that color, the first scent that came to mind was Hiris for that old bottle. Since I don’t have any Hiris, I went with my favorite Iris- VCA Bois d Iris.
Clear blue skies and sun today, but it is cold! The kind of cold where I can hear the snow crunching under the wheels of every car that drives down my street. It’s warmed up to a balmy -5 currently.?
My college daughter and I both have the day off. She’s home for a couple more weeks and is stacking up hours at her summer job while she’s here. She did that last winter and was able to save enough to pay her rent for a few months. She’s been lucky enough not to have to work when she’s at school and can totally focus on her studies. Unlike her mother did, ahem. Anyway, I am taking her to get her haircut for the first time in forever. It’s practically down to her waist! Then maybe a ladies lunch. Love these kind of days.?
Brrr, MTG ?-emoji twin. We did not get snow and have warmed up to high single digits with the same beautiful sunshine.
What a great day! Lunch and hair salon. Can’t get better.
Who knew I was moving to what seems the “balmy” part of WI. We’re at 17 today.
Have a great time!
Enjoy the day with your daughter- sounds sweet and fun! We have the same weather but I don’t mind, the bright sunshine on the snow is peaceful and beautiful.
What a nice day ?
I never was able to grow my hair to my waist! I am always awed by people who can do it. And a little envious.
Good morning and TGIF!
This CP is a tough one! I was also stumped until I remembered having a bottle with a very similar colour.
Sotd is Bond no.9 I Love New York for Holidays. This smells very similar to Angel, just a touch spicier.
Currently drinking lavender earl grey for extra purpleness.
It was tough. I was considering not participating myself.
I will join you in lavender earl grey when I’m done with my current cup!
I know the bottle you are talking about and it an almost 100% match in terms of color
I love “I Love New York For Holidays”! You smell great.
Woke up to snow today! Yay! The Tween already has plans to go sledding after school.
Wearing Impossible Iris for the CP. I think of this as a more pink than purple scent, but if we generously consider the iris to be the purple-y part of Very Peri, and the raspberry to be the red undertone of Very Peri, then this might just work. :). Who cares, I smell good!
Hope everyone is having a good day!
Smelling good is the most important part for sure.
SotD Angel for partial credit, because I have a mini and the box is more or less a periwinkle blue. And I wanted to wear Angel, which I rarely ever have, because Jalapeno (I think) mentioned it as a favorite. I am enjoying it very much – it’s giving me a scent bubble. Mr. Mossy said he thought he could smell something, LOL. I will have to check back with him. 😀 Runners-up for the day were Loulou, but I decided the bottle was not really the right shade, and Chopard Wish, because the juice is blue when it is new, but my older bottle has darkened.
Angel is a great call!
Angel is perfect! I was thinking of Loulou, too, for the associations of late 80s when I was carefree and adventuring out…but I no longer have it.
Perfumed friends, never be afraid to pick up a vintage Loulou at a bargain price – I have several, and it seems to be scent that holds up well! Just sayin’
Angel is a favorite, but it is also a “happy times” perfume for me. Does that make any sense?
I’m in Atelier Cologne Santal Carmin.

You smell wonderful.
Thank you
Amazing photo, lucasai! I’m always in awe at how you can photograph all these shiny bottles without having crazy reflections.
I had to take this photo from the side, At 90° angle to avoid my own reflection in the surface of the flacon ?
I’m in Arielle Shoshana Saturday, for possibly partial credit. It demonstrates “a carefree confidence” to me.
Hey, if you say it fits, you get full credit! We don’t have rules.
Oh no. RIP Sidney Poitier. He was 94.
Oh no! He was an early and continuing crush for me. In the Heat of the Night, To Sir with Love and my favorite, Lilies of the Field. And so many more. He had a restrained energy about him.
I hope the angels are waiting for him singing AMEN like the nuns did.
The Defiant Ones and A Patch of Blue will always be my favorites. Viewing these films makes it easy to see why they just HAD to award him an Oscar at some point. Agree with Lizzie about his sense of restraint; I think it was why he meshed so well in so many of his roles. R.I.P.
I loved To Sir With Love!
Oh dear.

https://www.nytimes.com/2022/01/07/movies/sidney-poitier-dead.html
Aw, man, I’m sad now. At least he lived a good, full, barrier-breaking life. I hope he at least went peacefully.
Perfectly said.
First Betty White, and now Sidney Poitier. The world is less classy now.
Wearing L’heure Bleue as it was the closest I could get to a perfume that was that ‘colour’ so to speak.
Close enough I am sure! Hope it is a good day Desirae.
Twins! Great minds think alike. ?
Happily working on both CP and NY resolution: wearing Ferre from my almost-empty decant, which I will count as a lovely, perfectly-coloured iris. Don’t know how many people here said, “Well, if an iris counts…” this week.
Many 🙂
Ferre and you smell swoon-worthy! I have a partial bottle, and that bottle is !bella bella! too.
Iris perfumes have made this project a lot easier than it would have been otherwise!
Hi Jalapeno! Iris is a favorite for me!
Hi there Petunia! Nice to see you!
I was thinking about Sous Le Toit de Paris for the CP but it’s too “cold” a scent for me in the winter. As I was looking around, I found a small decant of L’Heure Bleue, which seems to fit perfectly in name and notes. And it suits me on a day after we’ve gotten some good snow.
I’ve created a kitchen mess because I’m re-organizing our pantry. Plan to finish today. As I was working yesterday, we got a quick treat of some quite furry deer visiting our back area, eating the corn we’d tossed out. Maybe we will see them again later this afternoon.
See Desirae, two comments up from here 🙂
Sous Le Toit is my favorite of that line.
Hah! Twins! I was just lucky to see the small bottle on my dresser. Not a scent I reach for generally. But I may start.
I’m happy my husband convinced me to buy my 30 ml bottle many years back. I don’t wear Sous Le Toit often but love it. It’s a powerhouse, though.
My favorite Atelier, too!
On a side note…I’m becoming addicted to Wordle. Good thing it’s just one word a day.
I don’t love any of the Pantone colors this year or most years actually.
I am testing Dior Vanilla Diorama send by a kind, vanilla loving nster.
I like almost anything to do with color, usually.
I’m in Gucci EDP for the moment, but will switch and add to the iris village in a bit with Bucoliques de Provence. That periwinkle color is very near the shade my Japanese irises were … and will be again if they survive overwintering in a big pot, necessitated by our back yard work last summer. Happy Friday, everyone!
I have (yellow) iris in a big pot, that I meant to transplant 4 years ago. It blooms beautifully and even grew a baby rhizome, probably to remind me that I need to find the right spot for it. 🙂
Oh, good to know! I will keep fingers crossed for my little ones!
Oo, I hadn’t thought of growing irises in pots. I planted dozens when I moved into my current house and the gophers ate most of them from below and the deer ate the rest from above, so I gave up on them.
Hi Twin!
That Gucci in the clear bottle was a good one!
I’ll be in Aprés l’Ondée as soon as I’ve showered and pulled myself together this morning — it was between that and Jacinthe de Sapphir. No Ondée here today, just softly mizzling rain, but this morning has been a crashing mess with four hours of sleep, a nosebleed, a consequent near-fainting episode, and me lying on the icy bathroom floor for half an hour trying not to be sick and desperately needing to get up and make Littles’ lunch. Somehow we managed to get to school on time, but good grief. Planning to take it as easy as possible for the rest of the day.
I have to say, I love the CPs that involve matching perfumes to colors. Every single fragrance in my collection has a very distinct color to me (I also have color/number synesthesia so I wonder if there’s a relationship, or if the color/fragrance thing is simply an expression of the emotionality of scents for me).
So sorry about your rough night, I had one too so I am commiserating with you. Hope you feel better as the day goes on and have a better night tonight!
Commiserations right back at you! I hope you have a gentle day and a peaceful night ahead.
So sorry to hear about your difficult morning! I really hope you’ll be better now for the rest of your day. Interesting about the synesthesia possibility!
I live in a colorful world. 🙂
And it just occurred to me that I could have worn No.5 today, because the number 5 is periwinkle in my weird mind!
Isabella! I am so sorry, but I do notice that you did what needed to be done – have some tea or coffee and congratulate yourself, maybe??
Well, that’s true, and thank you for pointing that out! It can be so hard to feel proud of ourselves, in the way that we’d be proud of our friends if they were in our shoes.
My Apres l’Ondee twin! I hope the rest of your day gets better, and you get a good night sleep tonight!
Hi twin! We smell great, don’t we? 🙂
Taking it easy sounds like a good plan. There ought to be a ‘ Bathroom Floor’ anthology as I am sure it has featured in the lives of most people one way or another, a wealth of stories.
You are undoubtedly correct – I’ve had a couple of bathroom floor episodes myself over my life.
Seriously. But it would make for grim reading!
Feel better soon, Isabella. I hope you have a great night sleep!
Oh no, so sorry about your difficult night! I hope it’s only uphill from here.
Oh, I’m sorry to hear you were unwell; please take care and feel better soon. Sending positive energies and a ? your way. I am also a person for whom fragrances have distinct colors!
Ack, that sounds miserable. I am so sorry.
Fortunately, it was also sort of ridiculous, and I can sort-of laugh about it all? But thank you, definitely not feeling my best self today.
I’m very impressed that you were able to get Little to school, and on time no less, after a morning like that. I hope you nose stops leaking and you get really good sleep tonight.
I get lots of nosebleeds around this time of year too and they are so annoying for their demand of instant attention.
It was actually the first one I’ve ever had, which is probably why it triggered the whole faint-at-the-sight-of-blood response so strongly!
I’m late today so I hope that your day has been a peaceful one.
You showed a lot of grit in getting things done after the rough start today. You go!
I *never* got nosebleeds as a kid. Get them all the bleeping time now in winter as an adult. WTH?
Dry air. If you don’t already use a humidifier, you may want to try placing a bowl of water next to a heat vent.
The weird thing is, I grew up in a much drier part of the US.
I used to have simmering potpourri on the stove years ago to humidify and make the air smell a little better. Then I learned that allspice berries, bay leaves, or cinnamon sticks work just as well and smell even better. Time to start doing that again, maybe?
Oh boy, what a start to your day! I hope it got better.
I keyed off Kanuka’s hyacinth comment, too — wearing Hyacinth and a Mechanic.
The first day in a few that we didn’t have snow overnight. Yesterday we woke up to an additional 5″. That’s probably more than we’ve had in the last few years, combined.
What a great scent choice! We had 15cm overnight in Qualicum Beach night before last. There’s been more snow so far this winter than usual, apparently they’ve already gone through their yearly salt usage.
We haven’t started salt rationing this year yet, unlike some years back when the firehalls would get a huge pile and people would have to come by with buckets. But yeah, we’ve had plenty of snow! Enjoy your time in Qualicum Beach — bit of a change from warmer climates. 🙂
Embracing this altered landscape of possibilities?
Trying to.
Opening us up to a new vision as we rewrite our lives.
Not yet.
Rekindling gratitude.
Oh yes on that one!
Placing the future ahead in a new light.
Honestly, giving it my best.
We are living in transformative times.
That is one way to describe it.
In another Pantone altogether, characterized on the color encyclopedia website as “a medium light shade of brown.”
But Chanel’s Beige contains multitudes, albeit less transformative than formative! I’m in the parfum, which is lovely, even if it isn’t Very Peri. And that, my friends, is the sum and total of my CP participation.
You get bonus points, I’d say, for thinking this through.
2nd that.
Definitely bonus points, and Beige is so lovely — I only wish it wasn’t called “Beige.”
So, I had to look it up ( cause that’s what I find myself doing) , never knew but beige relates to the colour of undyed, natural wool…and it gets even more interesting.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beige
Alright, where is the “Cosmic Latte” fragrance??
Scientists are still looking for signs of perfume on other planets….
You go, girl!
I’m wearing Mimosa Indigo. Not periwinkle, but in the blue family. It’s from a sample and I really should have dumped the whole thing on me because I can barely smell it. Today I am looking at new flooring to replace old, cream-colored carpet. Looking forward to a change!
Good to see you’re tackling something bigger than car mats at last!
Will you stick with carpet? Or choose something else?
I heard that painting hardwood vs. refinishing is the way to go. That said, it looks like you’re replacing carpet.
Had a crappy night, still recovering. Wearing my new bottle of Milano Fragranze Panettone which arrived yesterday. I can really smell the candied citrus. The bottle is blue at least! 🙂
Mmm, if you smell anything like a panettone, you smell wonderful! So sorry about your crappy night.
Now that sounds like a very fun fragrance! Are you enjoying it?
And sorry about the crappy night. (I was so excited about the fragrance I skipped over that part. )
Yes, it smells really good! Some sweetness overlaid with bright citrus.
I hope you can get a good night’s rest tonight.
Thank you, me too!
That sounds like a lovely scent to recover with!
Hope your day is better than your night. ?
Ugh, sorry about your crappy night. The scent sounds wonderful, though!
Me too. Crappy night. Not as bad as Isabella’s–mine just involved anxiety and zero sleep, but I was tucked in bed for the duration. Woot woot!
Smelling like panettone sounds amazing.
Last night wasn’t the best one I’ve had, either. Cried a bit before I fell asleep.
I hope today got better!
I’m planning an early night with the electric mattress pad cranked up to 15! Feeling better now than when I got up.
No CP for me: SOTD is Atelier des Ors Lune Feline. My feline is recovering slowly from his tooth extraction yesterday. His appetite is good, but he’s still half-zombie from the anesthesia, poor guy. I’ve got him bundled up in a blanket, hopefully he’ll nap all morning.
Poor zombie kitty! I never will forget how glassy-eyed our poor girl got once when she had a procedure. I signed up for FragranceNet’s perfume of the month deal, and Lune Feline is first up. The notes sounded promising, but yes, the name is why I picked it. =^v^=
That glassy-eyed thing is pretty unnerving, isn’t it?
You smell good! I had a small decant of that and remember liking it!
Sending healing wishes to your zombie kitty. ?
Bet your zombie kitty is still glad to have that tooth gone.
I’m wearing Iris Poudre which seems a bit obvious, but was really the only one that came to mind in my collection.
Question for you-all: Am I just late to the discussion or did everyone know this? SA at local Sephora told me they no longer give free samples and don’t plan to ever again. Is this correct?
I think it depends on the sephora. The 2 here started giving them out again after my state lifted all the mandates. Which I think was last June. As of last week when I was there, I saw an SA making a fragrance sample for a customer. Next time I go, I will ask if there is a new policy.
Thanks, I’m curious. He told me that the company was not sending any stores the sample containers any more.
I missed a chance to find out. When I visited a Sephora about two weeks ago, all the testers were out, and an SA was hovering nearby, but everyone was just testing at will, either on skin or with the blotter strips. I wonder if he would have made a sample if asked??
The guy I talked to said I was welcome to test as much as I liked, but he would not be making samples ever again. I’m so curious if this is company wide.
I was told the same thing (that was in late November, so maybe the policy has changed since then). I understand it for the makeup, but for perfume samples it makes no sense to me.
So is this covid-related,or just economics?Might be a dumb question, but I’m curious!I’d rather have a take-home sample than having to touch too many tester bottles, even before the pandemic. The local Skins Cosmetics has become so great at making samples of things I’d like to try, even without the usual looks and sighs of discontent.
johanob!
(I can keep this up for a while 😉 )
I agree w you about samples vs testing in stores, but whatever sells will prevail.
My Sephora, the year before COVID and therefore 2019 (?!!!), was documenting the samples they provided me. I really think it’s economics.
It’s been ages since I’ve been to Sephora in person, so I am out of the loop on this, too.
The last time I checked, the Sephora SA said they are no longer making samples. This must have been around October. That said, what if you tempt fate and being your own atomizer? I used to bring my own and whenever an SA gave me the excuse (“we ran out of atomizers”), I whipped mine out and said you’re in luck as I happen to have one.
Love it!
I’m in Apres l’Ondee for the CP. A newly discovered, super old sample that seems to have been well preserved. It’s probably 20 years old, and makes me wish I could easily find this fragrance to buy. It’s really lovely and works better for me than l’Heure Bleue. It looks like it’s been reissued in the new bottle style but sold out on Guerlain’s website.
Happy Friday everyone!
Suzanne at Shop France has a trip planned for next week. I’m thinking she could get you one of the new bottles directly from the Guerlain flagship. She is secure to deal with, too.
Oh, good idea! I also thought about calling one of the Guerlain boutiques. But since I’m trying to curb new fragrance purchases, I think I should not be TOO proactive on this quest! ?
Same here. I want L’Heure Bleue and Après l’Ondée in the new bottles but trying to sit on my hands.
Ahem ?
Apres l’Ondee is lovely!
SL Silver Iris Mist. A sample I’ve hung onto and rarely use. It’s nicer then I remember, maybe the freezing cold air here in Minneapolis helps. I kept thinking it was a warmer weather scent, but it’s really not on me. Today was a perfect excuse to dig it out and enjoy.
I’ve been noticing all the weeds and tiny flowers bursting up through the cracks in our pavings and the old concrete as they have definitely “got away on me” since I stopped using sprays several years ago. They are so wonderful though in their defiance, pushing themselves up in the driveway and under the washing line, tiny daisies, forget me nots, tussocks, maple seedlings. So, kerbside violet for the CP a and the spirit of sticking with it and bringing beauty in less than ideal circumstances. Saturday and planning a trip to the op shops today for a fossick.
I had a poster on my wall through high school and college that showed a flower pushing up through a crack in the sidewalk. Such a great metaphor, no words are needed. And yay for you persevering through an extra difficult year.
Oooh, I’ve always wanted to try Kerbside Violet, but of course they don’t have it in the stores to sample, and $150 is a bit much for an unsniffed online purchase. I guess I should get a sample off STC or something…one of these days.
Enjoy your shopping expedition! You smell lovely.
And here’s me googling “fossick!”
Cheers to roses in Spanish Harlem, and everywhere.
Also had to google “Fossick”.
I thought it was a critter…
It sounded kind of Muppet-ish to me….
I want to use fossick in a sentence! Kerbside Violet ?
Wearing a dab of Deneuve and when that wears off, I will wear L’heure de Nuit. It’s freezing here and snowing hear today. I would rather be by the fire but I am at work.
I hope you’re home and snuggled up and warm by now!
In Boucheron Iris de Syracuse for the community project.
Cold, bright, sunny day. We got less than 2 inches of snow in my area, despite the reports saying we have almost 7 inches ?.
I am glad the week is almost over. Only 10% of the employees reported to work today. According to management, 70% have tested positive for Covid ?. The other 20% is out for weather related conditions. Insane! I received my PCR test results this morning after 36 hours of taking it, and I am negative. I have been very lucky so far, and I keep praying for it for my mother’s sake.
On my third cup of coffee and a bar of chocolate coffee buzz from TJ.
Happy Friday, everyone! ?
Whoa! 70% is crazy! These are wild times.
Absolutely! I am terrified!
50% of my team is out with it, but then, we’re only 4 people. I’m glad we work from home right now, though.
Unfortunately, we are not allowed to work from home anymore unless people or their kids test positive for Covid. We need to get used to the new normal.
Sending you a hug! Sounds like quite a week.
Thank you, Kanuka! This first week of the new year has been quite tough. Not what it was expected. Looking forward to better times!
Glad for your negative, especially for your Mother’s sake!
Thank you, MossyBerry!
Well, on the flip side, if everyone gets it this month, then they’ll have immunity and things will be better next month.
Wow!!! That’s scary. Glad your test came back negative!
Wow!?You continue to stay lucky!
Stay safe! You smell great!
Oh no, I’m so sorry for the additional stress. Glad you tested negative.
Is there any way you can wfh via a special request due to your Mother’s health? Just wondering, as a coworker friend said she won’t come into the office as she didn’t want to pass anything on to her elderly Mom (who was living with her). Management did agree to let her wfh full-time.
I was going to say the same thing. We have a category called Living with Higher Risk and the application goes through a review. (There’s only so much you can keep private when you’re requesting an accommodation.)
Holy. Freaking. Crap. Those numbers are stunning and scary! I so hope that you and your Mom stay healthy.
Crazy numbers. My company is much larger but the numbers are just as scary.
I’m joining the army of Irises in Dusita Splendiris, and I do smell great if I do say so myself.
We got a bit of snow, so we’re navigating teaching from home and Zoom Kindergarten today. It’s been fine, but I seriously do not know how anyone did Zoom Kindergarten for an entire year. My son loved it, though, and was so excited to have his own appointments.
Happy weekend!
Username checks out! 🙂
You smell great!
You smell wonderful! Perfect choice!
Friday!
RIP Sidney Poitier! An absolute legend.
1) In Iris Goddess from Floral Street- a very clean, almost soapy iris forward scent.
2) A slower day today work wise – so laundry and general picking up today- then finally out to go see Spiderman!
I just posted this quote at work:
“History will pinpoint me as merely a minor element in an ongoing major event, a small if necessary energy,” he wrote. “But I am nonetheless gratified at having been chosen.” –Sidney Poitier
Necessary energy. Damn.
YES.
Oh Iris Goddess is sublime!Waiting on the local stockist to get the 10mls in,before I purchase!
I’m claiming full points in Bucoliques de Provence. The box pretty much is periwinkle (at least with poor lighting it looks like that). I usually find the color matching hard, and since I don’t like aquatics, I thought any blue tone would be extra hard, but I love lavender so I can think of many fragrances that work for periwinkle.
Robin, my hyacinths are already coming up in the backyard – they are not periwinkle though.
We smell great!
Saturday morning and the start of a normal weekend’s routine, ahead of returning to work on Monday. I’ve had rwo and a half weeks of holiday, which has been wonderful.
I’ve not yet had much inspiration for the CP other than iris, and the L’Heure Bleue that others of you have mentioned. I like to match my perfume to the colour of my clothes, and I always struggle with blue.
I can still smell last night’s Serge Lutens on my clothes – a dab of L’Innomable from a sample. It’s warm and spicy, and very not blue! Post-shower, I will spray copious amounts of Hiris, I have the blue bottle, so it is on theme 🙂
Scentspirit, I was very sorry to read last night about your mother. That’s a huge loss, but you said what I think is the most important thing – you’ll remember her life with a smile.
Joining Kanuka in Kerbside Violet and thinking there’s a sweet little Hummingbird sitting on a tree in the rain who would love to discover a kerbside violet about now.
The temperature was 0 degrees and the windchill was -17 degrees when I woke up this morning, so I immediately discarded my immediate plans for today’s cp, AG La Violette (transitioning/transforming from winter into spring) as really unsuitable for today. (Veri Peri is much more purple than what I usually think of as periwinkle blue, so it made me think of Iris, lavender or my favorite, violet.). I knew instead I needed a violet that was less green and had more heft to it than LaViolette and SSS vintage (Laurie Erickson) Wood Violet is just perfect! It has substance and warmth and a bit of lingering spice, perfect for this cold day. Haven’t worn this or any of the SSS scents in too long a while!
Without looking for it, I stumbled upon an interesting opinion piece about Veri Peri and thought I’d share it with you. (And I tend to agree with the writer’s thoughts, but then I’m not much of a blue person.)
https://www.inquirer.com/columnists/color-of-the-year-2022-veri-peri-20211209.html
Looking forward to picking up a pizza and sharing it with some dear friends tonight, the ‘Grandma’ and ‘Auntie’ of two of our ??and visiting with their two brothers ??and mom?. Our friends adopted the pregnant stray female from a shelter so that she wouldn’t be put down; they kept two of the males and mother cat, another friend took another brother, and we took the two girls. We’ve all become great friends ever since. What could’ve been a sad story became a happy ending!
Wishing everyone a bit of happiness this weekend, no matter what!
Are the cats meeting too? 🙂
No, they’re just sending their ❤️, toys, and treats. ??
Thanks for the link. I didn’t know I would enjoy someone’s ruminations about a color, but I did. Sort of like ruminations about a fragrance. Totally irrelevant and subjective commentary: Anyway, I feel like 2022 needs more blue–a bluer, lighter, not-quite scrubs but more in that direction blue. We are heading back into various levels of lockdown and I am craving colors that support that. The blue in the Jonathan Simkhai blouse is closer to whatever it is that I am feeling about the New Year.
What a great story about the kitties! Thank you for sharing. Enjoy your visit and pizza!
Hurray for pizza and the company of good friends, both 2-legged and 4-legged!
Trying YR Nouveau Genre today…a dark, woody patchouli w/ stewed fruit and tonka.
From their website: Nouveau Genre is the embodiment of self-affirmation. A symbol of proudly and assertively taking power that once lay dormant inside us. To convey this strength, Marie Salamagne explored all the facets of Patchouli.
Surely, its strength will help me catch up on all my regular work projects this afternoon as I mostly dealt with putting out fires at work this week. 🙂
That YR sounds rather Lutensian, given your description.
Sounds great! I hope you were able to leverage the strength!
This color screams Iris. I am curious what hajusuri would wear 🙂 I am not participating as I am working thru a bunch of vanillas.
I love that that sounds rather like housework! (But delicious, cozy, sensual housework!)
I wore Mona di Orio Violette Fumee!
Gorgeous!
I love this CP,the concept of “smelling in color”!Iris Silver Mist will always be grey to me,as Lyric is as fiery as the red packaging it comes in.Lovely choices so far!
Not participating as I completely forgot about the Friday CP theme, but still smelling good in Molton Brown Bergamot and Orange.
Busy start to my call weekend today,as we did two rather looooong procedures, one of which the prognosis is not great.
Happy Friday!
XO’s
I have to try your perfume. The last time I went searching for it back in October, the SA was clueless.
I must say,Molton Brown has been churning out some quality stuff!I first received the Orange and Bergamot showergel with the Holiday Box from Skins Cosmetics, and that already was a WOW in the scent-category.The perfume did not disappoint!Milk Musc is another recent one I loved, and I have always loved Rose Absolue,a more refined Rose Jam in my opinion.
I didn’t have good creative ideas, and so I’m following others here for the CP in L’heure Bleue. I rarely wear it, but am really enjoying it now, and feeling pretty. I have a very old bottle of Angel Violet, which might work, but after wearing it a lot, I came to abhor it, and couldn’t bring myself to doing even a little dab of it.
A good friend of mine who teaches at Rice did a required Covid test, and it was positive–he’s completely asymptomatic, and was quite surprised. His wife is immune compromised, so I really hope she’ll be ok. I have a fear of this–feeling fine but unknowingly carrying the virus in to my 90-year-old mother when I visit. A nightmare.
Some of my friends in similar situations, going to visit elderly parents, have gotten a rapid test the day of their visit before they go, for that very reason. But if your mom lives nearby and you visit often, that may not be very helpful to you. I wish you (and her) the best!
I don’t go that often, but rapid tests are impossible to find around here, unfortunately. If I could do that I would.
Oy! My company had record numbers … more in the month of December alone than the last 12 months combined. I hope you can continue to safely visit your mom. I ordered a test kit from the company and as far as I know, I should get them next week or by the following week at the latest. I would rather have them available than have to search for them.
Fully CP compliant in Laboratorio Olfattivo’s Nirmal — wow, I had forgotten how beautiful it is! Lots of violet and iris. Just lovely. Happy Friday, everyone!
This goes on the list!
One of my oldest friends died yesterday (our parents became friends when we were babies). Colon cancer, age 46. I knew it was coming, but it’s so sad. I’m glad I’m off work today–I slept in all morning and have been huddling on the couch with my sweet dog and my electric blanket. Still haven’t showered, so testing Isabey La Route d’Emeraude on my arms and will switch to something bluer after. I’m not crazy about this one, so it will go in the giveaway pile.
And now my soapbox moment: if colon cancer runs in your family, or if you have any of the risk factors, get yourself checked out even if you’re younger than 45. https://www.cancer.org/cancer/colon-rectal-cancer/causes-risks-prevention/risk-factors.html
My friend’s ordeal scared me into getting a colonoscopy last year, and it really wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.
I’m so sorry about the loss of your friend. I have had family members die of colon cancer so I began colonoscopies in my 20s. As you say, it’s not as bad as one fears, and its preventive value is huge. They’re better nowadays than they used to be, too. Hugs to you.
I am sorry for your loss – 46 is too young :(.
I”m really sorry about your friend, socks. Sending you hugs, if you want them.
I’m very sorry about your good friend. Sending you some more hugs.
I’m very sorry to read anout your friend, and I also encourage people to get checked. My father died of bowel cancer at 53, younger than I am now.
Oh socks! So sorry to hear about your friend’s situation. 46 is too damn young.
I’m very sorry for your loss.
I’m so sorry for your loss socks. Be gentle with yourself this weekend.
So sorry for your loss, socks.
I am so sorry for the loss of your friend.
Thanks everyone! I really appreciate all your comments.
My deepest sympathy on the loss of your friend. ?
I am turning 46 this year,so this really scared me.I’m sorry for your loss!
I have been very diligent since I turned 30 with my yearly checkups, especially prostate and cholesterol checks, which has been most problematic in my family through the generations.I think one needs to do at least the basic checks religiously every year.
Sending hugs!
Adding belated condolences, socks, that is really tragic.
Song of the Day: https://youtu.be/bpZuAtwDfag
Melancholy day today. A long, hot shower and soup for lunch helped somewhat. ScentSpirit’s post yesterday brought home how much I’ve been missing my own Mom the past 2 weeks. ?
In other news, the weather forecast actually got it right for my area this time. As near as I can tell, we got between 4.5 and 5 inches of snow this morning. I haven’t actually been outside with a ruler to check that… more than happy to eyeball it.
SOTD = 2 today, one virtual and the other is what I actually wore.
The virtual scent was a match for Very Peri that I came up with late this week. However, when I pulled out my bottle and took and experimental sniff of the sprayer, it was not at all suitable for my mood. Virtual scent = Soivohle’s Lilacs and Heliotrope. Would have been perfect, expect that it made me even more melancholic.
Actual SOTD = Atelier Cologne Iris Rebelle. Not an exact match for the Pantone color, but much easier on my mood!
Sending hugs, Jalapeno. I hope you have some warm comforts at hand, and that the melancholy passes soon. I’ve been acutely missing my own mother, too.
Thanks Isabella. “Healing doesn’t happen in a straight line”, does it?
Sending you hugs, Jalapeno.
Your virtual scent sounds lovely; I”m adding to my “to-try” list.
Unfortunately, right now, Lilacs & Heliotrope is sold out at Soivohle. But sometimes perfumes do make return appearances there. I could check my Sample Stash to see if I have it…
Your song of the day brought me a flood of memories, some good, some not. I hope you have room in your weekend for doing more healing things for yourself. I’ll add my virtual hug to the others.
Yeah, I have the same mixed feelings about that song. I will try to think of something special for self care this weekend. I pester my brother enough about it, so I should take my own advice.
Hugs always appreciated!
Oh Jalapeno.. a big warm electric blanket hug for you.
It doesn’t happen often, but we are scent twins today??☃️?
Hiya scent twin! Thank you for the feels and the hugs.
Sending another hug to add to the stack Jalapeno. My mom’s birthday was Wednesday. She would have been 87. It gets easier, but it’s slow going sometimes.
Thanks Nancyleandros. Birthdays are going to be hard for a while.
So sorry for the melancholy. I am nesting this weekend as I don’t want to be out with icy roads, cold and people not wearing masks.
I’m planning on hunkering down, too. We forgot to get the ice scraper for the truck out of storage when the weather was nice (D’OH!).
I hope you have a warm cozy weekend at home. Sending you hugs.
Thanks cazaubon. This is definitely a good weekend to cocoon.
I’m sorry for your loss too, even if it was a while ago. It’s true that time is the only thing that helps, but there are some people you will never stop missing so much.
About the only thing I am sure of is that it’s going to take however long it’s going to take. Grief has its own schedule, and every version of it is unique.
That is so true. I’ve often wished I could fast-forward through the grief and get to where I feel better again, but it doesn’t work like that.
Nope. However, even feeling crappy beats feeling numb.
Adding more ?????. Pull out whenever needed.?
I’ve been lurking here most of the day but forgot to post my SOTD. 🙂
CP compliant in OJ Orris Noir – I get orris root* and more orris root. I also get bay leaf and artemisia. The opening had a decent amount of pepper, and so much bay that it skirted soup territory, but after an hour the pepper dropped out a lot, and the bay stayed but stopped asserting itself. I get some guaic and myrrh in the backbone but no incense. I like the dry down much more than the opening. My usual problem with Iris-centered scents is that they are too powdery, but this one isn’t; it is velvety, which I really like.
Went with a good strong assam today. We got at least 5 inches of snow last night, but luckily I have no where I have to go today.
*Is “orris root” redundant?
Not redundant IMHO. We got 6 inches (or what felt like it) and we’re quite near each other.
I’m very late but just put on some Apres L’Ondee, courtesy of a lovely NST’er. I’m loving the powdery irisey goodness; this is quite a powerhouse for an edt.
On theme!
It finally quit snowing here for now. I think I ended up at around 10 or so inches. Thankful that we have a good plowing system here in the city. The only reason I don’t live out further.
It was while cleaning out my purse that I chose my sotd. Thunking my sample of Iris Rebelle. I can’t say I will miss it, since I actually forgot I still had it!
I just looked it up.. 14 inches!
Wow! That’s a whole lotta snow! (Feel free to insert a Led Zeppelin reference…) ?
Ha! Funny about finding stuff you forgot about. Same here as I just unearthed two decants: 4711 Lemon & Ginger and 4711 Lavender & Thyme.
Thank God we only got six inches!
Wow, 14 inches! Stay warm & safe!
I’m late but I didn’t put perfume on until this afternoon. I got out in the icy sunshine and got my first haircut in three months, then got to visit my mom and have lunch with her, then went straight to PT. When I took off the orthopedic boot, my foot was so swollen that I couldn’t do any exercises. I’ve been hanging out at home without wearing the boot and not using the walker much….too much too soon, boo. My weekend assignment is to stay off my foot as much as possible. So I came home and generously sprayed myself with DSH Inner Sanctum, which has nothing to do with the CP but I felt better instantly after breathing it in. Enjoy the weekend.
That’s a shame about your foot. But it sounds like you did some wonderful stuff today before getting benched.
It was really nice.
Ouch about your foot! You were able to fit a lot in to your day, so there’s that.
SOTD = Mona di Orio Les Nombres d’Or Violette Fumee
Woot! It is a beautiful perfume in a gorgeous bottle, cap and box! Violette Fumee is powdery, earthy, violets, pipe tobacco, incense. Up top, there was something animalic. Excellent all around!

I am taking triple credit: one for the name of the perfume, another one for the notecard and a third one for a FedEx package (the logo!) I received today!
Six inches of snow today and it was too much to not shovel ??♀️.
Omicron. No kidding this is highly transmissible. Closer to home (work), STAGGERING, breaking records with numbers in some locations that have basically exceeded the sum of a year’s worth of infections in the month of December alone! Also, closer to home (my town) had over 2,800 infections for the week, with a similar numbers profile as I mentioned re: work. I am staying put and nesting / organizing / cleaning up this weekend having provisioned up yesterday in advance of the aforementioned snow. I do have to work a bit because I took time today to dig out and there’s a ton of work to do.
Stay safe.
Six inches is a decent amount. Did you also have blowing and drifting snow this afternoon?
Oh that’s a lovely bottle!
Stay safe yourself!
I have that same bottle! You smell lovely.
Nice to see someone else chose a violet scent for today’s cp, too. Stay safe, I’m with you on staying put. We’ll be hunkering down the rest of the weekend and most of the week.
Planned on Floraiku In th Rain for the CP. But arrived home after my dirty yard cleaning work & showered and… ended up opening a package with Fugit Amor travel spray so I wore that. Very nice frag despite the fact that in the beginning I felt like I smelled my Mom’s cooking!! Had to be and the spice blend in the notes.
As the perfume progressed though it felt really sheer and nice. But if I had to choose between these two Jul et Mad I recently got in travel sprays: Amour de Palazzo wins!!
Yesterday I ordered a travel spray of TF Plum Japonais. I am EXTREMELLY excited to try this one. I LOVE Japan, I LOVE plums, spicy plums? Oh I LOVE!!
Tonight I finally pulled the trigger… lately I have been dreaming about trying something from Shalini. And tonight I made my dream come true and bought a super duper expensive smaller sized bottle of Jardin Nocturne. Cannot wait for it to arrive!!
So very late to chime in and haven’t read any comments yet, but I went with CdG Holygrace because very peri made me think of the bottles for Holygrace and Holygrapie. However, in verifying the connection today, it’s the bottle of Holygrapie that matches the color a bit. Oh well, it’s good to wear this one that doesn’t get worn very often. It was my souvenir perfume when I visited Seattle in 2011 a year and a half before I moved here.
Wearing Guerlain L’Heure Blue edp, which that shade of periwinkle immediately called to mind. I didn’t find a reasonably priced perfume advent calendar this year, so settled for the wine one from Aldi and put together my own 12 days of vintage (or at least venerable) perfumes. I hadn’t gotten to this one, so the CP is perfect timing.
Oh wow!! What a brilliant connection You made with L’Heure Blue and Very Peri!!
