Thursday scent of the day 1/6

Posted by Robin on 6 January 2022 195 Comments

It's Almost-Friday and Three Kings Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I’m wearing Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Samarkand. No community project points for me so far this week.

Reminder: on 1/7, wear a fragrance to match Very Peri, Pantone's color of the year for 2022. ("Displaying a carefree confidence and a daring curiosity that animates our creative spirit, inquisitive and intriguing PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri helps us to embrace this altered landscape of possibilities, opening us up to a new vision as we rewrite our lives. Rekindling gratitude for some of the qualities that blue represents complemented by a new perspective that resonates today, PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri places the future ahead in a new light. We are living in transformative times. PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri is a symbol of the global zeitgeist of the moment and the transition we are going through.")

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Pantone Very Peri/Off-White Canvas Sneakers are $89 at Cariuma.

Hello everyone! Wearing Carner Barcelona Botafumeiro today in honour of the Three Kings (it’s a beautiful incense perfume, which I have very few of but plenty of this one). It’s wonderful. Looking forward to cooking a good festive dinner tonight, the last one of this year’s Christmas season! And to round it all off, it snowed here this morning. Feeling happy…hope this good mood continues, and wishing you all a good and peaceful day.

I’m sort of doing the CP today, since I am wearing Close Up from Olfactive Studio, and the bottle is periwinkle blue (in the Fragrantica picture). This is from a discovery set, and I have no idea how long I have had it, since it was still in plastic. One of the samples had evaporated, so it must have been awhile. Anyway, Close Up is a lovely fragrance for cooler weather, so I may get a decant.

    Morning everyone!! ?

I still have The Moon and I new 10ml waiting to be tried.
Meanwhile Mancera Wild Cherry travel spray is arriving today as well as Jul et Mad also travel spray of Fugit Amor.
Have been thinking of this peri blue all week now. First day decided that nothing absolutely nothing in my collection will be a match. Or a true match. Not even Squid. The color sure – the scent – no. Too salty and ambery.
When I saw the nail polish the other day an idea started in my head – In the Rain. In the rain is visioned in my head as golden yellow but very dim that radiates through blueish-green also dim to finally shine in a crystal-clear peri blue. Yes – peri blue!! So that’s settled. I know what I will wear on Friday. Yay!!

Good morning! My cat says it is not a good morning because his humans have not fed him. It’s about to get worse, he’s going to the vet to get a tooth out, poor guy. So I’ll get to hear him howl dramatically all the way there. Then the vet will hear him howl dramatically until they knock him out. Then more howling all the way home. Not for nothing is his nickname ‘Noisy Boy’.

SOTD is L’Occitane Ambre, an orange amber. Well most likely it is some frou frou version of orange (bergamot or petitgrain or mandarin or some such) but let’s call it like it is, orange. It’s a really nice combo, I wonder why there aren’t more orange ambers. I smell good. Now where are my earplugs….

My 95-year old mom passed away on Tuesday morning at 4:15. At 11:00 am on that day, new Covid restrictions came into effect limiting our options for a funeral, so we have had to go with no visitation, a short service and burial with immediate family only in attendance, and a memorial service at a later date. I am now having to deal with any number of opinions varying from “why are you risking our lives by having a funeral” to “why won’t you allow me to visit, I need to say goodbye”. She lived and died on her own terms – just said she was done living and stopped eating. All of us will remember her life with a smile, but I sure won’t remember her death that way. I’m going to spray myself with Organza because she switched to that when Evening in Paris was no longer available.

My condolences. FWIW, I’ve attended a few zoom memorial services during COVID, and they have been wonderful. So many people calling in from so many places, folks who never would have been able to attend IRL. Hope your mother’s service goes well.

When our Mom passed, we had decided to do the service right away since we didn’t know what the future would have been (covid-wise). Of course I wasn’t able to attend in person but did watch it livestreamed. I had the comfort of my best friend still living in my home-town watch it along with me.

I am sorry for your loss. It’s good to hear your mom was able to leave on her own terms, but I’m sure it’s still hard. The father of a good friend of mine passed away during the holidays, and they are having similar issues with the funeral/memorial and so forth. Plus the usual or not uncommon other sibling conflicts surrounding memorials and such on top of that! I hope you won’t have to deal with those as well!

SOTM is Cuir Ottoman, which along with a strong latte should help me stumble through the usual morning things after a night full of too much wakefulness … and a very bad dream about a hijacked party in which my SIL had taken over planning and spending my money (including having a pool built in my back yard!). I was chastising her severely and she was not taking it at all well.

No CP points for me today — I’m wearing Night Flyer / Zoologist Bat, which I finally got after a long ordeal with shipping. (A big thank you to Ellen Covey, who had to go through all this shipping hassle for a small bottle.)

More snow here overnight. As lovely as it is, I’m done with it. And it’s starting to seem that everyone I know at work and at my daughter’s school has come down with COVID — two members of my four-person team and my daughter’s teacher, so she’ll have a substitute once they go back next week. Fortunately (knock on wood) we managed to get through our trip across the US with two negative tests each, but I suppose there’s still time for symptoms to show. It was good to see relatives we haven’t seen in 3-4 years, though.

Stepping off the rose train for the day — today is cloudy-down-to-the-groundy with swirling mists so thick that the rain gutters are running. Insomnia and headaches continue to be a daily and nightly drag and last night was especially hard, so I went with Vanilia for soft cuddles and comfort. I swear, sometimes navigating adulthood feels like poling a little, tippy boat through dense fog on unfamiliar waters, completely alone. But then, there’s a beauty in that, too, I think.

Good morning fragrant friends, I’m in DSH Jitterbug this morning. My Wednesday was extremely high-stress, so today, I am finding it extremely difficult to focus on work. Thankfully, I just discovered that I missed out on the damage poll, so I’m having fun reading about all your purchases 🙂

I hope everyone’s new year is off to a great start! I plan to celebrate la fete des rois belatedly this weekend by baking a galette des rois, complete with hidden feve, and sharing it with some friends. I’ll let you all know how the coronation goes.

CP in Florists Fridge for the hyacinth note, as a colour/ scent match for Veri Peri. A nice perfume on yet another blustery day. My eyes have been zoning in on all things Veri Peri this week, such as all the flowering buddleia which seems to grow everywhere and is full of purple and lilac flowers. No actual lilacs in flower at the moment but violets, violas, lavender all present and still some irises.

No CP for me as I went with Chanel No. 19 in order to brave the snowy drive to our county seat and keep my DMV appointment for my new license. Roads were fine – we’ve gotten a fair amount of snow in the last day, and it’s still coming down, if lightly. But, roads were well plowed for the most part, and my Subaru was more than a match. DMV was a piece of cake. I’m organized, so had all the docs I needed with me. All I had to do was eye exam and photo.

Came home and made my favorite smoothie. Frozen kale, peaches, pineapple with protein powder, psyllium, chia, collagen and yogurt to amp up the protein a bit. Surprisingly delicious. (My husband is drinking coffee and eating a donut from the local market/bakery.)

I am going to try for a few CP points tomorrow. Today’s scent is Alien Fusion. We have a high of 20F today, and in this cold and dry weather, Alien Fusion starts out just like Alien. But since I previously tested it in warm weather, I know that the sweet woods and dry cinnamon (in spite of that red hot bottle) bloom as your skin warms up, or you take a walk in your heavy down coat, or vacuum, etc. Speaking of housework, I have, without planning, done all kinds of New Year tasks. So far: cleaned coffee maker, cleaned dishwasher, cleaned toaster oven, and defrosted chest freezer (in process). It feels nice. Off to read comments.

Really enjoyed last weekend at the hot springs, especially the kind people who offered us a ride back to Denver. The only match I can think of for Very Peri that I have would be L’AP Iris Pallida 2007. In addition to all that special harvest iris root, it’s said to have blueberry. It’s beautiful but a bit of a downer. I usually turn to SL Iris Silver Mist instead.

I probably won’t wear iris in this chilly weather, though. Yesterday, I wore Jacomo Coeur de Parfum, and PdE Cuir Ottoman before that. I may wear Heeley Cuir Pleine Fleur today, or revert to one of the earlier two.

Looking forward to catching up on yesterday’s quarterly confessions as well as today’s poll. Cheers, everyone!

Oh, 1992 Pucci-inspired stuff! Back then, I was working a job (one of two) in downtown Chicago while I was supposed to be in university full-time. There was still a Pucci boutique on the second floor of a building on N. Michigan Avenue near where I worked, and I always looked at their window for inspiration.

At the same time, I also had a green and hot pink ski jacket that could only have existed at that point in time. Ah, early ’90s!

      I bet I’d still like your Pucci-inspired leggings. 😀

FYI Costco sells a Nuxe gift set right now for $30 that includes, among other things, the dry oil (3.3oz) and a candle…I bought a two pack of the dry oil from Costco for xmas, but they don’t have that in stock anymore.

Thee Kings Day is public holiday… meaning I already have a first long weekend in 2022.

    I’m wearing Winter Palace today.

I went with Shalimar Philtre de Parfum from my decant from the last split meet. I realized I’d not yet given it a proper wearing, only tested it alongside MVP and decided I much preferred MVP. I’m glad I gave it a chance because I’m enjoying it much more today. It couldn’t compete with the smoothness of MVP but it’s perfectly nice on its own merits.

So rainy today and I have to walk to get groceries later. Hoping it magically lets up around 5, but the forecast says that’s very unlikely.

Aha! This is on my shortlist of purchases for the new year…I am trying to keep the list short, and reduce the impulse buys, so I can buy a few expensive bottles…hmmm…thank you for this description!

Enjoying another all too brief interlude of sun before another storm rolls in very late tonight/very early tomorrow. There is snow accumulation in the forecast, but given what happened with the last storm, I will believe it when I see it.

However, Mr. Jalapeno has taken the opportunity to go to Costco tonight, while it is still clear. He was out of coffee, though…

    More cleaning for me today.

SOTD = L’Agent EdP. Glad I got a bottle of this when I did!

I wore AP to the cinema when I saw the latest James Bond film (I went weeks after its release date so that the cinema would be empty-it was-and I should wear it again, lovely perfume!

The original Agent Provocateur had some rather good flankers.

Thanks illyjo. Not concerned at all about the snow. Three inches was the latest forecast I heard, which is still nuisance snow in my book.

We are expecting 3-6 inches — if we get it, it will be our first of the year other than flurries.

Expecting snow like jalapeño … I think our luck has run out for the nasty weather ❄️ to skirt my area.

I decided to do impromptu food shopping today and maybe I can hunker down this weekend. I am still incredulous that some people are not wearing masks at all. Someone was wearing a mask properly, saw a friend of hers and decided to drop her mask so she can shout clearly to be heard. ?

I have an idea for tomorrow and I can wear any perfume. ?

Definitely looking forward to your take on the CP! I’ve actually come up with a couple of options for tomorrow.

No where near the CP today. Went with CdG Copper, which to my nose is a sibling of CdG’s Odeur 71. Both smell metallic, but the image I get is a friendly robot, not a cold inanimate hunk of metal. I also get ginerale and sugar snap peas from Copper, which is odd, but also seems like a I snack I would happily eat.

Tea today was Clippership log cabin, which is a black tea with star anise and dried orange slices.
