Happy New Year's Eve! It's also Friday, the seventh day of Christmas (swans a-swimming) and the sixth day of Kwanzaa (Kuumba: creativity). Our community project for today: do what you were going to do anyway...wear the perfect fragrance to celebrate, share joy and look forward to 2022.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I don't know that I'll stick with it through tonight, but this morning I tried to come up with a good luck charm for the coming year, and the first thing that came to mind was Hermès Eau de Néroli Doré.
Reminder: on 1/7, wear a fragrance to match Very Peri, Pantone's color of the year for 2022.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I gave what turned out to be a surprising amount of thought to the community project! I eventually decided that today and tomorrow — to say good riddance to what was a fairly harrowing year for an awful lot of people, and to usher in a new one that at least has the chance of being better — I would wear Parfum d’Hermès extrait, to me one of the greatest scents ever made. It’s rich and sonorous, beautiful but not single-mindedly so, with a few angles and edges, a bare hint of corruption to remind you that sooner or later, beauty always entails decay and loss. It makes me think of the things and the people that are gone, but it gives me hope for the future — if we are creative enough to invent such works of art, maybe we can solve the problems that beset us. Maybe.
I hope you all have a happy New Year’s Eve, however you celebrate it, and I wish you all a healthy and prosperous New Year. This is one of the most welcoming, accommodating places on the entire internet, and Robin, I thank you for it.
Oh pyramus, thank you for this stunningly beautiful and truly brilliant post. It touched my heart deeply. May 2022 be kind to you.
What a great post to start the day with! Happy New Year to you, pyramus.
Beautiful post, Pyramus! Thank you! Happy New Year!
Hear, hear, I applaud your tribute to Robin. Well-deserved. I’m curious, how does this perfume manage to convey or contain a small hint of corruption? That’s so interesting to ponder.
Surprisingly many fragrances do, if you know what to look for. Some flowers such as jasmine, ylang, and orange-flower contain a component called indole, which is also present in feces, so they often smell a little raunchy — “skanky” is a preferred term. (Fragrance components can be manipulated in various ways to remove this skank or bolster it, as the perfumer wishes: when you hear people on NST rhapsodizing about indolic jasmines, that’s what they’re talking about — dirty, sexy jasmine. )
Parfum d’Hermès is very refined, what the French call un parfum fourrure, a fur-coat scent, lush and opulent and expensive-smelling, but with a little bit of that jasminey skank to keep it from being smooth and boring.
Thank you for your thoughtful reflection, inspiration and good wishes. All the best to you, to all NSTers and to Robin for creating this joyous space.
*applause*, what a great first post, thank you!
Thanks for this post, Pyramus. Hear, hear!
I love your sense of optimism tinged with realism.
Thank you for this beautiful post, pyramus. I really needed to read this today. ??
Wonderful post pyramus, esp the part about Robin and NST.
Agree w/ all the others…wonderful post! Happy New Year, pyramus!?
Amazing post. Happy New Year!
Beautiful post! Happy New Year!
Thank you for your wonderful message and your presence here on NST. Wishing you a good 2022!
Happy New Year, Pyramus and thank you for your wonderful post!
Happy New Year to you, Pyramus! Thank you for such a thoughtful and generous post. I join you in applauding Robin fir the wonderful space she’s created here.
Good morning and happy Friday. Most importantly, Happy New Year’s Eve!
I wish 2022 to be a golden year for everybody and much better than 2021. To celebrate, I am wearing J’adore L’or. A beautiful and lush creation suiting this happy time.
It’s too early for a glass of bubbly so I instead am drinking a glass of grape juice!
How will you be welcoming 2022?
Happy New Year to you. We have some eggnog for desert (not spiked) and then some champagne for midnight, IF I am still awake. If not, we’ll have it for lunch tomorrow.
Happy New Year! I had to stay up until 3 am to drive my son home from a party on the other side of town ( which, at 3am is twenty minutes away) …so Welcomed the New Year completely sober and tired . His flat mate is staying with us as everyone gets booted out on 31st and he stayed in with us and from him I learnt things about starfish I never knew. Wish I was young and studying again.
It’s a coin toss if I make it to midnight. I will be on the phone with my brother tonight, since he’s off shift. Had roasted Brussels sprouts as dinner for luck in the new year.
We had supper with my BIL & SIL, now snugged up with the dog after a glass of champagne. Happy new year!
I woke up early today, so I likely won’t see midnight tonight — but I’ll be wearing YSL Champagne, however late I manage to stay awake! Wishing everyone a joyous and calming New Year. May we all remember to be kind to one another.
You will smell wonderful, and Happy New Year!
A wonderful choice! Champagne is always appropriate for a celebration.
You smell divine. Happy New Year
Perfect pick for the day!
You smell great! Happy New Year!
Go kind! A great goal for any year. Wishing you a good one!
We are going to a Japanese restaurant for lunch so I am wearing Kyoto and my vintage silk Hopi coat.
That sounds brilliant. Enjoy your day
Thank you.
I had to google your coat. You look and smell lovely!
Thanks! And lunch was delicious!
Oooh. Wow so today’s the day. Happy New Year’s everyone!! May 2022 bring so much joy and bliss, may 2022 be some fun fragrantic-release year!!
Today I chose (not even remembering today’s New Year’s Eve) MM’s Russian Tea. That is to celebrate my anticipation for two recently ordered perfumes: Memo’s Russian Leather (full bottle) and Floraiku’s The moon and I (cutsey 10ml of this tea packed fragrance). So there is is I am wearing both: Russian and Tea today.
Russian Tea is such a beauty. A symphony of perfectly crafted and put together notes. The mint, the raspberry, the birch and the tea in it are in such perfect harmony.
Japan is really what I am crazy about as a country, culture and art but I am also collecting all perfumes “Russian”. I am Polish but with Russian roots (Grandma) and when I grew up in Poland anything Russian was very familiar to me. We drank tea like Russians, every house had typical Russian art displayed etc.
Thus The Vagabond Prince is my complete Holy Grail and am glad to have to bottles of it: Enchanted Forest and Swan Princes (thanks 2021!!). I remember in 2020 I REALLY wanted only two things: some The Vagabond Prince bottles (depicting a Russian art style so familiar in my country of origin but also bottling up perfumes that smelled so familiar to me) and Memo’s. Honestly it is not until 2021 that I had found Memo also makes brands such as Floraiku and Hermetica. Anyways 2021 has brought a few “Russian” perfume bottles in. Love it!!
I wore that yesterday. You smell great!
I also like Enchanted Forest (I should probably get a bottle while it’s still available).
Do you already have CUIR DE RUSSIE
by Le Jardin Retrouvé? If not, it’s something to explore for your collection.
No I do not have that one. I was just reading about Le Jardin Retrouve though!! Thanks for the suggestion:)
Have a wonderful evening in perfume bliss!
Those Vagabond Prince bottles are gorgeous, I’m glad your wishlist came true. I’m intrigued by the Brocard fragrances from Russia, especially the newer ones they’ve made with very well known perfumers. I’ve been able to try some at Bloom Perfumery in London, which carries a number of Russian or Eastern European lines.
Still unscented, but after my shower this morning I will likely wear something uplifting, like AG Ciel D’Opale, to usher in a year that is lighter and brighter than the last one (or several).
Thanks to all of you here for creating a sanctuary of fragrant civility in the world!
Lighter and brighter would be just what we all need, right?
Hear, hear!
What a great scent analogy — I share your hopes for 2022. Happy New Year!
10.5 hours sweet sleep.
I haven’t seen a New Years in since I was maybe in my 40s? And that’s fine.
My robe smells like a mix of the past few days. I will enjoy the mingling with my coffee. Our rain has stopped and it’s a crystal clear cold cali end of year day.
Like many of you, a big thanks to Robin for providing a daily shelter from the larger storm.
My last day to make a fragrance purchase to begin the no spend year. Decisions…decisions…
Ha, let us know what you buy!
have narrowed it down to….
a}OJ woman
b)Goldfield & Banks Silky Woods
c) Jovoy Remember me
Not that anyone here has opinions!! but do weigh in.
I vote for Silky Woods.
I say all three. ?
Now that’s the spirit! I need to place one more order…
And Silky Woods has been purchased!
Is it too late to go for OJ Woman too, lol? Happy 2022!
No it’s still early on the west coast!
Woot! 🙂
I did the same yesterday and ordered Les Indémodables Ambre Supreme and Profumum Roma Dolci Pensieri. 🙂
? ?
Well done!
I almost bought a couple of perfumes yesterday, but I knew deep down that they weren’t Perfume Loves. So I scuttled the purchase.
Good call. Much better to save your pennies for Big Love. 🙂
Commando so far. I just came back from a vet emergency visit after my old dog decided to jump from the couch last night. He can barely walk now. X-rays did not show any fracture, but he hurt his back and left leg. He will be in anti-inflammatory and pain reliever meds for 10 days and needs lots of rest. I asked for blood and urine tests to be done also as a regular check-up. I will get the results next week.
I will welcome the New Year in Masque Milano L’Attesa, one of my favorite perfumes.
I am not attending my family gathering tonight, so I will be by myself, and I am totally fine and happy with it. Champagne and Japanese food to welcome the New Year and will watch a couple of movies until the ball drops down.
Wishing you all a safe, healthy, and joyful 2022! ??
Wishing your dog a speedy recovery! I think your New Year’s plans sound lovely and I hope you have a great 2022!
Thank you, Adrihazel! ?
P67, I hope your furry friend is as comfortable as possible and will heal quickly.
Happy New Year to both of you! You’ll smell great (I also love L’Attessa).
Thank you, Undina! ?
So sorry for your dog! I will be joining you in spirit, with similar plans for the evening (sans champagne), and the same outlook — happy about it. 🙂
Twins, pl67–L’Attesa specifically chosen for its champagne note. Similar plans for tonight: my cable provider has provided free HBO and a few other premium channels this week, so hope to find something entertaining. Wishing a quick recovery for your dog!
Healing wishes for your sweet pup and a very happy new year 🙂
And you smell lovely! L’Attesa is such a gorgeous iris and a perfect choice for New Year’s Eve.
O. I’m so sorry. I hope your angel heals quickly. Hopefully, the meds will make him feel better and comfort him.?
Smart decision! Hanging out with your special boy is a lot safer and more relaxing. Glad you are taking care of yourself.?
Hoping .your baby recovers quickly. You plans for tonight sound great.
Poor dog, I hope he is OK.
Your poor pup! Give him a snuggle from me.
Sorry to hear about your pup. It happened to my dog and turned out he tore his ACL. He’s getting around pretty well, though.
Oh, your poor doggo! I hope you enjoy a lovely evening together, and that he recovers quickly.
I hope he feels better fast and that you have a wonderful new year together.
I hope Yei feels better very soon! Your plans sound heavenly; we’ll be up to much of the same.
I am so sorry to read this. You have had a tough go these past weeks, pl67.
Wishing you and pup the best.
Aww, hope your dog is feeling better soon, poor baby!
L’Atessa will always make me think of you. ?
Happy New Year!
Your poor baby! 🙁 I hope he feels better soon. Big hugs to you and happy New Year, PL67!?
Healing prayers for your baby. An evening at home with my dog is always appealing, hope you enjoy lots of snuggles. Happy new year!
You smell great in L’Attessa! Poor doggo! I hope he heals quickly.
Ach! Sorry to hear that your sweet Yei is hurting right now. Glad that he has you to snuggle with tonight. Here’s hoping we all have a better 2022!
Sending you and your furbaby ??? and wishes for a better 2022!
Thank you, Laila! ?
Poor doggie — I hope he recovers soon, and I hope 2022 is happy and healthy for both of you!
Thank you, Old Herbaceous!
I’m wearing Ambra by Etro for the last day of 2021. It’s soft and cozy which is what I’m hoping today will be. Here’s hoping 2022 will bring good things to us all!
Cheers Adrihazel, I am hoping along with you 🙂
Happy New Year to the NST community! Even though I can’t visit here often, it’s great to know that this wonderfully friendly and peaceful place exists, and I keep coming back whenever I can. So, thank you, Robin, for keeping the lights on and being such a gracious host. And thank you everyone for maintaining this oasis of civility despite everything that happens in daily life. I hope that 2020 answers your prayers or wishes. May you all and your loved ones, both two- and four-legged, be happy and healthy!
I got up earlier (for me) to feed my cat Rusty: usually my vSO does that, but he can’t go back to sleep afterwards, so I left him sleeping to “prepare” for tonight’s celebration. I plan to go back to bed for another hour, then I’ll wear one of the brighter citrusy scents – I’m choosing between Jo Malone Orange Bitters, Ineke Idyllwild and Atelier Cologne Clementine California.
Tonight we’ll have a couple of people over (a tiny celebration because some of the regular crowd got sick and some decided to travel while it’s possible), and I plan to wear my all-time favorite Lancôme Climat.
Happy New 2022 Year!
Climat is gorgeous. Enjoy your evening!
Happy New Year, Undina! You smell marvelous, as always.
Happy New Year Undina! ? ?
Happy New Year Undina!
Happy New Year! And you smell great in Climat. Give Rusty my best wishes for another good year; I think he quite enjoyed 2021, judging from your posts and photos!
Happy new year!
Happy New Year’s Eve, everyone! Today dawned sunny (and very, very frosty) and it’s just glorious to have blue skies and sunlight after at least a month of unrelenting overcast. I’ll probably join Pixel in Champagne later today, but I’m starting the day in L’Ombre Dans l’Eau, for me the scent of the most beautiful early summer day, full of optimism, peace, beauty, and life. May the year to come be likewise, for everyone.
Pasta dough has been made for tonight’s tagliatelle alla Bolognese, champagne (the non-perfume kind) is chilled, a few sparklers are on hand, and we’ll have a big salad with new dandelion leaves from the yard. No plans to stay up until midnight but we can celebrate the changing year at dinnertime. Meanwhile, Littles and I have plans to go out for mid-morning pastries at the nearby French bakery and then drive out to West Marin to see if we can spot any salmon in the creeks, or any last-minute chanterelles in the woods.
That sounds like a heavenly day. I hope you and littles have an amazing time together!
Sparklers and all! Have a blast.
We will smell fantastic later 🙂
Sounds lovely!
Have a sip of champagne for me, please! The best I would be able to do this year is a favorite microbrew, should I decide to indulge. Happy New Year to you and Littles!
That sounds like a perfect day to me.
Wishing everyone a happy new year! Currently in no 19 edp for some extra backbone while I am at work today. Got the bubbly chilling and will be making some pork roast tomorrow. I think I will wear Hedonist tonight and Lyric tomorrow.
May your work day go fast and uneventful!
Great perfume choices for the celebration!
What excellent choices of perfumes!
We’re twins!
Wow, a trifecta of smelling great! Happy New Year!
I’m another who won’t make it to midnight tonight to celebrate, so I’ll be drinking something sparkling about 10 pm to bring in the New Year. Today I’m wearing Organza Indecence, an oldie but a goodie. I am so hoping that 2022 is better for everyone than 2021.
You smell great!
Happy New Year! Here’s to happy days and peaceful nights!
Wood pudding wonderful-ness! Happy New Year!
You smell wonderful! I ❤️ OI.
Happy new year to you and the kitties!
Happy New Year one and all! Thanks, Robin, for continuing to maintain NST for yet another year. It can’t be easy, and you do a great job!
Wearing Ajmal II by Ajmal, which starts off just a hint too animalic, but calms down to something really lovely and floral and powdery. (Everything on my skin goes powdery.) I’m hoping it’ll be like 2022–off to a somewhat rocky start, but calming the heck down!
There are an awful lot of things that are harder 😉
I’m hoping 2022 dries down to calm by the middle of January, is that too much to ask?
Happy New Year missionista!
I’ll be up to see in the New Year but only because I’m working. Otherwise, I’d be tucked in bed by 930pm and dreaming.
I’m approaching the 2022 like I do every year- planning for the worst and hoping for the best.
I’m in SmellBent Incensed for all the loverly-ness of it and also because the name is an accurate representation of how I’m feeling towards US governmental healthcare entities right now. And that’s all I’ll say about that!
Hoping everyone has a spectacular year! We are all overdue for wonderful news, the ease of never ending anxiety, and hugs from those near and far who we’ve had to distance ourselves from the past two years.
Thinking of all those hundreds of thousands who are no longer here to celebrate this wacky, wonderful life with us. Stay well!
Cheers! ?
Deva, thank you for working during the holidays – so that we could have our celebrations with some peace of mind.
Happy(ier) New Year to you!
I love your post.
My mother was dying in December, around Christmastime years ago (still feels like yesterday). A very special nurse said she was going to be working Christmas Eve and Christmas. Her husband had passed away and they had no children, so she wanted others to enjoy their Christmas times with their families.
And, yes please, rant welcomed on healthcare.
Thanks for doing what you do.
Ooh, you smell wonderful. I love Incensed, as well as Incensed Short Fuse (which might fit your outlook even better).
Cheers to you. I hope your night is uneventful and your year to come is fantastic.
Big hugs and happy New Year, Deva!?
Thank you for all you do and wishing you a much better 2022!
Happy New Year, Deva! Thanks for what you do!
Thank you Deva. Happy New Year to you!
Happy new year dear Deva!
Deva, thank you for all you do. Hoping 2022 is a less stressful year for you and all other healthcare workers. I cannot imagine what you and they must have gone thru this year but I am so grateful for all of you. ?
Happy, happy New Year! I hope you don’t mind, but I’ll say this prayer for you and others tonight; it’s one of my favorites from my own faith tradition. I respect all others’ beliefs or lack thereof, but I think it is so beautiful, especially during this ongoing pandemic:
“Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick, Lord; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love’s sake.”
Thank you to you and all other frontline healthcare workers, for all you do. May the rest of us do better by you and your colleagues in 2022.
Work or watch or weep.
Rabbit rabbit rabbit and Happy New Year from the far south! This time last year I was in hospital learning I had cancer and yet here I am! Made it! Plus it’s my son’s 20th birthday today and we’re off to see The House of Gucci, then some of his friends are coming over and we will make pizzas and crack open the champagne and celebrate. Crap weather as usual but green and sweet smelling and oh so quiet except for the birds. Happy New Year! Robin, you’re wonderful! Wearing La Dolce Vita again, because it is.
Happy New Year! It is indeed wonderful that you made it 🙂
Bravo for you, Kanuka! So glad you are doing well and enjoy your outing with your son.
And we’re so glad you are still here with us!!
Kanuka, wishing you all good things this upcoming year! Waving at you from up here in the northern hemisphere (although really, up and down are a bit arbitrary when you think about it).
Very happy new year to you!
Wishing you a very happy and healthy new year!
Happy New Year Kanuka!
Happy New Year, Kanuka! You’re wonderful too!
Happy New Year, Kanuka! You smell great…I remember Dolce Vita fondly but haven’t sniffed it in years. My sister had a good check-up appointment w/ her doc and also got her booster. Great big hugs to you and let us know how the film is please!
We are so glad you are still here!! Happy new year! We saw a bit of your fireworks on tv this morning.
Best wishes, Kanuka!
Hooray! Happy New Year!
Yet here you are indeed! A very happy birthday to your son, and hope the movie is good.
Congrats on surviving the 2021 trip around the sun Kanuka! Glad that your wry wit still graces NST. Happy 2022.
Happy birthday to your son and wishing you a healthy 2022!
I think you learned your diagnosis almost exactly 2 years after I did, and every time I see you here I give you a long-distance fist bump!
Happy New Year! May 2022 bring you much health and happiness. Here’s to still being here … I’ll raise a glass to that!
Happy New Year everyone! We had a lovely summer day yesterday, and 2022 has dawned to more sunshine. I’m planning a quiet day, but it will certainly include a walk in the sun.
We’d expected a quiet night at home for New Year’s Eve, but friends invited us around for dinner and we had a very nice evening. We were tucked up in bed by 10.30 🙂 I wore the planned Fêtes Persanes, and enjoyed it very much.
I’m intending to repot a few indoor plants today, but so far I haven’t managed to get off the couch.
I’m still in bed reading. Glad you’ve got some decent weather.
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year, Gaynor!
I love Fêtes Persanes! Happy new year!
No sense in getting off the couch on January 1, Gaynor 🙂
Happy New Year Gaynor!
Happy New Year, Gaynor!
Angel Muse for me today because I wanted to continue my cozy theme I’ve craved this week. Went to bed late after our game night and got up late. We have our next door neighbor’s open house this evening and will stop by, but our plans revolve around college football games. No plans to head to the “big” town north of us for the outdoor cherry drop and street party. I’ll be too tired, but I admit it does sound fun.
For me, 2021 was a year of change. We moved to our small town in NE Wisconsin from NYC in mid April. Enjoyed a beautiful summer and fall, made new friends, reconnected with my husband’s old schoolmates, missed NYC terribly, attended a Packer game, ate lots of cherry-laden sweets as well as some excellent cheese. Overall, despite all the craziness in the world, it was a good year for us. We will see what 2022 brings as we continue to settle in and find our routine. One thing I’ve learned in life is to enjoy the good times because they often don’t last as long as you’d like, endure the bad times, because they too shall pass. I’m blessed with an ability to appreciate small graces – I hope that continues to stay true even through the inevitable challenges that 2022 will bring. Here’s hoping everyone here has a healthy 2022 with lots of small graces.
Scent twins!
Wishing you a joyous 2022. !
Cheers to the small graces! I hope 2022 brings you even more delicious cheese, along with health and good fortune.
Big changes! Happy New Year!
Scent twins here too!
Love your musings about the good times and the bad ones. Hope that 2022 is good to you.
Such lovely, true words. Wishing you a wonderful year.
Thanks, Robin, for creating such a nice safe place. ?
Off to shower and rest. I have to take my little dog out for her ride tonight.
I’m among the stay at home brigade. Isolation or not.
Wishing everyone a happy, healthy, upcoming year.
Happy New Year to you, my fragrant friend. Sending you a virtual, Kulfi-scented hug.
Thank you, sweet Lisa! Kulfi? Happy 2022!
Wishing you a happy and healthy new year!
Thanks, cazaubon! Right back at you.?
Happy New Year! ?
Happy New Year, 8× over!
Do get plenty of rest! We are home tonight too.
Lots of rest and doing nothing, lol. Home is a good place.
Happy New Year, AnniePerfumes!
Happy New Year, Jalapeno! This will be your year!
I’m in Boyfriend, not really the best name for the kind of meaningful scent I’d like to choose to ring in the new year, but it’s warm and comforting. Tomorrow will likely be Ormonde Woman which I do think of as a good way to bring in 2022.
I doubt I’ll make it to midnight as I barely slept last night thinking about the fires in Colorado. I watched the news aghast yesterday as the town in Colorado where we lived for 25 years and brought up our family before moving to Seattle a few years ago burned. Neighbors and friends are safe but evacuated and our old neighborhood did not burn but so many homes did. I still can’t believe the devastation. When we lived there, it never occurred to me that this could happen.
Instead of a no-buy this year, I plan to spend — on carefully chosen favorites because life is short and I want to appreciate all the beauty and small graces (as LizzieB said so well above) around me.
Oh, that must have been terrifying. I’m so glad to hear that everyone you know is safe.
You smell great. But yes, the name is a bit … ??!
How unsettling that must have been, ugh–calamities right & left this year. Glad your old neighborhood is intact.
Big hugs and happy New Year, springpansy! The fires in Colorado are terribly sad. Also agree that much of the weather/storm-related damage and natural disasters we have witnessed in the couple years would have been difficult to believe possible years ago.
It’s horrific to watch, hurricane force winds! I think the area is supposed to get some snow, so that will help. I hope.
Oh, how sad that must feel if you lived there.
Hugs springpansy. I am familiar with both Superior and Louisville as a former resident of the Denver area myself. There aren’t words when you see something like that happen to a place dear to you.
Thanks, everyone. ♥
Just reading this today and sending you a virtual hug. ❤️
Happy New Years Eve, everyone! I’ve been spending the last couple days in MFK CPLS which is easy to wear and comforting. We spent four days with the grands, and it was a trying trip. Lots of tantrums (two kids under five), and the younger one was sick. We weren’t notified he was ill, so now we’re both sick with … a cold? Omicron? We don’t know, since it’s nearly impossible to find a test kit. So, we’re quarantining for the next several days.
To top it off, one of the parents had his own tantrum the night before we drove home. I was left to sit in the guest room, hoping it would end. I don’t really want to visit them anymore, and that’s a real shame.
So, we’ll be chilling out here tonight, which isn’t a disappointment at all; it’s exactly what we’d be doing anyway! I’m making banana bread with the bananas I threw in the fridge before we left, and a casserole with hominy, black eyed peas, Rotel tomatoes and some melted, bronzed cheese on top. Treating ourselves to some baked brie, with balsamic red onions instead of the usual fruit jam. Yum! Good luck and a fresh new year are on the way. ? ?
The brie sounds amazing, the tantrums sound dreadful. I hope you can enjoy the peace of your own home and that your illness passes quickly and with minor symptoms.
Thanks sistine. I was ever so grateful to get home.
Glad you can enjoy a peaceful NYE at home 🙂 Happy new year!
It is lovely. Happy new year to you too pixel!
Happy New Year Nancyleandros!
I’m sorry about the stinko trip and hope you feel better soon.
Thanks lillyjo! I wish you a Happy New Year too. ?
That does sound like a tough trip. Big hugs and hope you and your husband feel better soon. Happy New Year!
It was wild, but it’s over now! Happy vanilla-scented new year to you!
Wow, tough trip. I hope you feel better soon and enjoy some peace & comfort in your own home. Family visits during holidays are overrated, this year was my last one.
Probably my last one there as well. Funny thing, we brought the Wild One and were so worried she wouldn’t get along with their dog, but they got along pretty well after a day or so. I didn’t think the two leggeds would have an issue. ?
Have a peaceful New Year at home. So sorry about the misbehaving adult. Kids are exempt.
Thanks hajusuuri. Kids are especially exempt when they are sick! Although, the whole family is sick at this point.
Aw, so sorry. Hope it is a lovely New Years, and hope you are both better soon.
Thank you Robin! Happy New Year to you and your family.
Ugh, that sounds like a horrible, stress filled holiday trip. So glad that you are home and can relax a bit. Wishing you a Happy and Healthy New Year.
Sorry that your visit was so unpleasant, wishing you peace and a quick return to good health in the New Year.?
So sorry the holiday visit was stressful! Maybe going to see the little ones will improve if you can stay in a nearby hotel, assuming you decide to try again; my own parents started staying in the Courtyard near our house once we had two small children, which made everyone more comfortable but especially them. Family can be such a challenge, especially if adults have tantrums! Your NYE sounds peaceful, I hope you enjoy it!
RIP Betty White. She was 99.
https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-53723448
Oh man. Stupid 2021.
Oh wow. She was a dynamo.
I was just at Barnes & Noble before 2pm looking for the Betty White People Magazine – none to be had. When I sat down after coming back. I saw that she had passed. 99 years old! R.I.P.
Hard to believe, in my head she was invincible.
I want to age as well as she did.
Seriously. I can’t even feel sad — what a joy to live to 99 in decent health and universally beloved.
Me, too.
I wore Shampure oil from Aveda for my morning virtual yoga class, and switched to California Reverie after my shower. Like many others, my hope for 2022 is that it is lighter than the last two years, and this seemed like a great perfume to match that sentiment.
We have bubbly in the fridge and are planning to have appetizers for dinner. I hope everyone has the New Year’s Eve that best suits them and that 2022 is a year of health, good fortune and even some fun.
Robin, thanks again for hosting us. This is an extremely special place.
Happy New Year!
I hope you have a safe, happy and fragrant 2022!
Happy New Year sistine!
I hope your new year is amazing. Happy 2022!
🙂
Can I ask you (or anyone!) a Shampure question? Aveda is one of my covid splurges, and I now have Botanical Repair and Pure Abundance hair stuff. (Botanical Repair, btw, turns out to be the perfect antidote for EVERYTHING that is wrong with my hair, plus I adore the smell. It is easily the best shampoo and conditioner I have ever had. So now I will be stuck paying the crazy price forever. Luckily, it takes very little of either product to perform.)
Do you know, does Shampure smell like either of those?
Ironic, because I use the Shampure shampoo but I have no idea what those other 2 items smell like.
Thank you anyway!
I haven’t used those two lines, but I’ve used a lot of Aveda products. My guess is that the lines you mentioned do not smell like Shampure, There’s generally a scent distinction between lines.
If you sign up for their pure privilege rewards, you get a free scented oil every year on your birthday and access to 20% off sales every so often. And points. I now have enough points to stay at a luxurious spa for many days. Dang, I could use that!
Thanks! I bought big backup bottles during the Thanksgiving sale so I am hopefully set for the year.
I don’t know the other scents, but Shampure is beautiful, soft, soothing. I got a small bottle as a birthday bonus early in my fragrance hobby. Love it!
Thanks!
I’ve only used Shampure, but you have created a lemming.? Aveda had the best perfumes long ago.
Happy New Year to you too! And Shampure oil is lovely, you smell great!
Just popping in to wish everyone Happy New Year
Happy New Year to you as well!
Happy 2022!
So glad you dropped in! Happy 2022 to you and yours!
Happy New Year, clarissa!

Happy New Year everyone!Remember your triple-triple “rabbits” for 2022!!
Rest in peace Betty White!!What an extraordinary life!
SOTE for staying at home Paco Rabanne Mētal.Raining cats and dogs,I’m cozy and chilled at home rather than out and about.
To a healthy and prosperous new year for you all!
XO.
Happy New Year Johano!
Wishing you a wonderful 2022!
Happy New Year, johano. I suppose I can rabbit3x as soon as I am done drinking the bubbly!
Happy New Year johanob! Be safe, and be well.
Ooh, you smell great in Metal! Happy New Year!
I started the day with my new purse spray of Maison Martin Marigula Autumn Vibes. Well, that was a disappointment. I bought it as a dupe for Diptyque Tam Dao, after testing it once at Sephora alongside some other scents. There’s something in the base that I don’t like at all. A sweetness and instead of cedar I get pencil shavings.
So I took matters into my own hands and a few hours later opened up my tiny little bottle of vintage Change Coco parfum and dabbed a bit of that on the ol’ wrists. This is much better!!
So that’s how I’ll go into 2022. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. And also, stick with the classics :]
Happy New Year to all!
I like your advice. 🙂
Excellent advice! Happy New Year nebbe.
You smell wonderful! Happy New Year!
RIP Betty White. I was *so* hoping that she would make it to 100. Sigh.
2021, don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
In hopes of an improvement for 2022, I wore something that one of you NSTers gave me. This place is a wonderful little beacon of hope and love, and it is the people that make it so. You all effing rock! ???
SOTD = Caron Parfum Sacre EdP. I swapped for this earlier in the year. It’s surprisingly quiet on me, but a lovely dried rose petal & myrrh scent to welcome a new beginning with. ???
You smell lovely! Have a happy new year!
Thanks hajusuuri! Happy New Year to you!
May your 2022 be filled with happiness!
Thank you cazaubon!
Happy New Year Jalapeno!
Happy New Year lillyjo!
Staying in and hunkering down tonight…not sure what perfume I wear yet but vanilla is a safe bet. 😉
My daughter’s school district sent home 2 Covid tests for all kids before holiday break…one test to be taken today (12/31) and the other Monday morning (1/3) before school. My daughter was negative but a good friend’s daughter tested positive. She had mild cold symptoms around Xmas and is pretty much all better now. Her son, who is 2 years older, tested negative. No one else in the house has been symptomatic. They are all vaccinated. Be careful out there, friends…so many more people are testing positive right now and seems to quite a bit of minimal symptoms and asymptomatic transmission too.
Wishing this resilient and fragrant community a 2022 full of good health, hope and glasses half full!?
To another glorious Vanilla year!
Indeed! 2021 was a good year for Vanilla…Love Extreme, Vanilla Diorama, Shalimar MVP…just to name a few… 🙂
I got a sample of Dirty Vanilla in today’s mail – I can’t wait to see just how dirty it is!
So glad to hear your sister is doing better. Wishing you a happy new vanilla 2022!
Happy New Year, cazaubon!?
Let’s hear it for the “Hunkering Down” club!
??
Happy new year to my fragrant friends! Hoping for an end to the pandemic by spring and much more lightness and joy as the days go by. I’m wearing Papillon 125 as I am undertaking some deep personal changes this year to improve my physical and mental health.
Happy New Year, cazaubon. May you realize your thoughtful changes!
Happy New Year cazaubon! Best wishes for your new growth.
Happy new year! My yoga teacher said this today and it’s really hit me – May you be open enough to see opportunities for change and growth as they are presented, and humble enough to accept them when you need them.
Best wishes for a bright and blessed 2022.
I need to write this down.
What a wonderful message!
Happy New Year! I hope the year brings you so much peace and joy!
Ooh, you smell wonderful!! May 2022 bring you health, happiness, peace, and joy. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!
Looking forward to walking your journey with you.?
Thank you Annie, I will be walking with you too.
SOTD = Chanel No. 19 EDP
I wore my signature scent to cap off 2021 and usher in the new year. It is my hope that we’re all ready to face 2022. May it finally be better than 2021 and 2020.

My “Best of” 2021 is: my Cuisinart Air Fryer / Convection Oven combo! I always seem to end up not having most of the ingredients in a recipe so mine is pretty much all substitutions. It’s fun to experiment!
Such a pretty pale green for your SOTD.
You have really taken to that air fryer! I look forward to hearing more of your foodie adventures with it.
Great scent choice! And looks like you got a very nice package from 4160 Tuesdays. Looking forward to my January Joy Box which we will start on Jan. 2.
I hope you have a healthy, happy and joyous 2022.
Happy New Year hajusuurri!
Looks like you are almost ready for a bub!
Already have 2 ?
Happy New Year! You smell great — No. 19 was on my shortlist for tonight but I went with my other Chanel love, No. 22, in honor of the New Year 2022. Thanks for all your kindness and sharing!
Happy New Year!
Shocked at your signature scent!?
Good for you working that air fryer.
Enjoy!
Happy New Year’s Eve to all!?
Like many of you, we’re hunkered down tonight, actually, for the next few days. Tomorrow we’re expecting a huge snowstorm with 5-9” of snow, then bitter cold on Sunday and single digit temps into Monday morning. We have movies, books, plenty of food, a piano, several guitars, a dulcimer, and, oh, yes, three ???to keep us company!
I’m wearing my traditional NYE scent, a little-known one from 2005 that I only wear on this one night every year: Avon Extraordinary. Avon described it as ‘a sumptuous Floral Oriental with the sparkle of champagne and the richness of chocolate truffles.’ It’s festive and delicious!?
We had a delightful afternoon celebrating a delayed Christmas with my son and his family, since they were away visiting the in-laws at that time. They usually come to my home but today we went to theirs. So in addition to spending time with my beloved grandtwins and their parents, I was able to spoil my three grand kittens I hadn’t seen in awhile. The oldest kitty-brother, who loves to wear bow ties, was sporting a red/green necktie today, the younger kitty-brother loves to wear his red/green sweater (I have never seen cats who love to be dressed like these two ??!). Their little sister is very shy and likes to hide, unlike her brothers who know that Grandma is the Bearer of Treats and come running!
Wishing everyone peace, good health, happiness, and, ?, a return to some semblance of normalcy in 2022!
Happy New Year Laila! Your wise contributions are always appreciated here.
PS. I am envious of your coming snow! So far, I’ve seen only rain, and only rain is in the forecast for the future.
Hi everyone, I fell asleep reading everyone’s comments and slept 4 hours, yay me! Wearing Angel Muse because lillyjo wore it yesterday and it sounded good. We are hunkered down watching college football. I’ll add my gratitude for the NST community and to Robin for keeping this lovely corner of the internet available., I look forward to checking in daily. Hope everyone stays safe and has fun this weekend.
Smelling great!
Wow, that was quite the restorative nap!
What a great FINISH of 2021 year!! Bottle of Russian Leather has arrived.
First of all I have to be so niche-oriented by now because if I smelled this 15 years ago I would have labeled it musculine. Not it merely makes a unisex to my nose. Who ever said that leather + wood + spices make for a musculine scent?
Actually Russian Leather is very… lavender to me. Fresh, herbal, purple in color lavender. With delicate green stems and leaves. That lavender is set on a base of something delicious – similar vanilla as in Winter Palace.
I am forever happy as I have been looking for the perfect lavender perfume and I got one just now!! I almost got a bottle of Lavender Romaine by Perris Monte Carlo but got Russian Leather instead. Lavender is my holy grail of a single note (besides maybe tea) but for sure my Number 1 flower!!!
Happy New Year All!
I’m just hanging out at home. I will probably be asleep by midnight. I am wearing Tobacco Vanille.
Here’s hoping for a great 2022! I am pretty sure that 3 sucko year’s in a row is not allowed.
You guys are the best!?
Glad to hear that you are hanging out at home, and not working tonight! We’re gonna find out if your theory is true about sucko years, aren’t we? ??
Happy 2022!
Happy New Year lillyjo!
I certainly hope we cannot have a third sucko year in a row! Happy new year!
New Year’s Eve! And the end of 2021, a year that brought great joy and relief, but also many challenges and ongoing concerns. In honor of 2022, I’m wearing one of my all-time favorites, thanks to a comment yesterday here by MossyBerry — Chanel No. 22! May 2022 be good to us all.
I love the sense of community and the kindness I see here in all the posts. Thank you, Robin, for creating and maintaining this community! And thanks to all of the regulars here who make it such a pleasant place to read and learn about fragrance. Happy New Year to all!
Happy new year to you too!
Happy New Year, Old Herbaceous! Very thoughtful post. Sniffing good!
Happy New Year and you smell wonderful. I thought No. 22 was a very happy scent all the while I wore my edt.
Robin, I love your choice of scent for an optimistic new year!
I’m wearing PHI Une Rose de Kandahar, my Christmas present from my husband, feeling like a very lucky woman.
Meanwhile, our one visitor for NYE just got a call informing her that she’s been exposed to a positive case. Oh well. We’re a vaccinated household, so maybe that protection will prevail. Happy New Year, everyone!
You smell wonderful!
? for protection.
I didn’t put on perfume on until late today, and I ended up going with Cristalle EDT. Lively and sparkling for NYE and its name makes me think of Cristal champagne. I’m just relaxing at home and will surely be in bed before midnight. I don’t really care much for NYE celebrations these days, but I do care about the four day weekend I took off work for!
Great scent choice. Enjoy your l9ng weekend!
Thanks!
Rabbit rabbit! Wonderful choice, you smell great. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year to you too!
Posting late in Miss Dior. Feeling grateful for Mr. allo, the children in my life, good friends, health and this community.
And we are grateful for you. 🙂
🙂
2nd
Happy New Year, allo!
Happy New Year NST!
I am grateful for all of you well mannered, kind, informed and funny people!
Thank you, Robin, for making it possible for us to be part of this community.
