It's Tuesday and the Winter Solstice. Birthdays: Rebecca West, Frank Zappa, Samuel L Jackson. What fragrance are you wearing?
I’m thinking of going with Serge Lutens Rousse. Tea at the moment is a blend of Upton Christmas Tea + Upton Old South Meeting House Breakfast Blend.
Reminder: 12/24 is Christmas Eve. We won't have a community project but there will be a poll starting on the 23rd, so if you're around, do tell us what fragrance you're wearing.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the 2021 Wedgwood Teapot Ornament ("Treat your tree to this Wedgwood Christmas Iconic Teapot Ornament, a new Christmas tree decoration for 2021. ...crafted from porcelain in our signature blue and white colours...it hangs on a white satin ribbon carrying the message Magical Wedgwood Christmas") is $35 at Crystal Classics.
It’s snowing out (so rude) and I’m in original Old Spice: warm spicy herby gasoliney carnations — what could be better?
What indeed?! 🙂 You smell wonderful.
Nothing. Nothing could be better. Old Spice is perfect for a snowy day.
Not much could be better! Old Spice is perfect for a snow day.
I’m so envious of your snow, we don’t get white Christmas’ here in my part of the UK anymore, although we had a couple during my childhood which have become mythical. I can’t think of a better fragrance than Original Old Spice for snowy weather. ?
Parfait de Roses was my (yesterday’s) SOTD. I think I liked it, although this is a scent that could easily veer into “old lady perfume” territory if the composition was any different. I have no plans to wear any scent today, as I am staying home all day. I think I will be doing that a lot more often now.
I am trying to keep my spirits up after a heated argument with one of my managers last night at work; I felt she was quite harsh with me about a particular something and tensions were frayed. I have the rest of the week off, and a stupid argument is not how I wanted to end my work week 5 days before Christmas. So I am visiting all my usual sites that have become my (online) happy places.
Happy (freezing cold) Winter Solstice!
So sorry about the tough day at work. This is indeed a happy place! Hope you can get over the upset soon!
No perfume to cheer you up?
Thank you. I have some of my pretty candles lit that are giving off a nice scent.
Oh, good!
I am sorry, too. I bet it had nothing to do with you but perhaps everything else going on in someone elses’ world, although we think it’s about us and allow it head space. I hope you let it go and give yourself time off.
Thank you Apsara. I try my mightiest to shake these things off, but it’s not easy for sensitive souls like myself.
This is definitely a happy place. Sorry about your rude work encounter, I agree with Apsara, it was probably not you. Lots of stress this time of year. Relax and enjoy your time off.
I agree, tons and TONS of stress, not just the holidays but the other Big Thing on top of it all. I’m glad I came here to vent, kind words from y’all mean a lot.
I hope you’re having a much better day today!
Thank you. I’m just chilling out with candles and cat and WiFi. Sometimes that’s all one really needs. And, y’know, food. 😉
I. Hate. Workplace. Conflict. Sending a perfumed hand pat, and I will hope that for you it all blows over as WC so often does, even after causing pain. RE: weather, we are still having fall here and I am glad for the sun. However, freezing Winter cold is good for killing “bugs” of all kinds, so that’s good for you.
I’m with you, I don’t like conflict, period. It interferes too much with my rose-colored glasses, but we all have to deal with at some point, some folks more than others.
Enjoy that sun, it has turned quite cold here, can’t even go for a stroll (well, I could, I just don’t feel like bundling up). And triple-YAY to no bugs!!
Bleah about the rough start to your time off. Work conflict sucks.
Hello all!
I was so heartened by every birthday wish I received last week! I read them all, even though I didn’t get a chance to respond in a timely manner.
My fragrance today is Niral from Neela Vermeire. A soft milky wood scent that feels so relaxing. One of the many perfumes I found on my trip.
Stay safe everyone!
You smell amazing! Niral is definitely a beautiful, relaxing scent and was also a birthday scent for me this year. You’ve inspired me to spray myself with abandon today!
Oh, great minds think alike! I love its soft contemplative sillage.
Belated Happy Birthday!
Thank you!!
Happy belated birthday! If I were to buy any full-sized Neela Vermeire, it would be Niral.
Thank you! I’ve barely explored the line, honestly, but Niral stands out above the rest.
Happy Winter Solstice! So glad for longer days! ?
In Portrait of a Lady. Every time I wear it, it reminds me of Johanob. I hope he is doing fine and ready to enjoy the summer!
Having my third cup of coffee and not really ready for a crazy, exhausting, busy day at work.
Happy Tuesday! ?
POAL can also remind you of Henry Golding…it’s one he wears and loves. Hope your day is less crazy than you anticipate!
I am such a late comer to POAL. You and Henry both smell beautiful.
I am more than happy to smell like Henry Golding! ?
I also send good wishes out to Johanob, wherever he may be!
(And just came home from errands with a nice hot latte, so I join you in the coffee.)
Coffee twins! I just grabbed a cappuccino from the cafeteria downstairs. ☕️☕️
He’s on Instagram and seems to be doing OK!
Oh good 🙂
Go, PL67, Go – I hope that tasty sounding cappuccino helps power you through your day.
Thank you, MossyBerry! The cappuccino is powering me for the last 2 hours left. I think I will survive!
Looking forward to those “extra” minutes of daylight we start getting now! w00t w00t w00t! ???
Yay! ?
I am wearing La Panthere today, having found an untouched mini in my big box of mini bottles. I think I used up a sample and decided to get a mini, but then never touched the mini. I’m really enjoying it.
I liked Panthère much more than I had expected to; you smell lovely.
A La Panthere mini bottle must be so freaking cute!
Good morning.
Today is my birthday.
Sotd is Zoologist Bee (for b-day).
Currently drinking rooibos with honey to match.
Happy Birthday! ???
Happy birthday, happy888cat! I hope it’s a great day. (Love the fragrance correlation.)
Happy birthday— hope it’s wonderful! ?
Happy birthday to you! You smell wonderful!
Happy Birthday!
happy happy day!

You smell marvelous, and I am sending you happy thoughts on your birthday!
Happy happy birthday! Have a lovely day!

Happy birthday! ???
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday!

Happy birthday!
Hope it is a wonderful birthday happy888cat!
Happy Birthday!
How cool to have your birthday on a solstice! Very happy birthday to you.
Happy birthday! You smell really nice!
Happy Birthday and I love Bee’s bottle. Note to self to get additional samples of Z’s scents. I’ve tried Sloth (it kept wanting me to like it until I did), Elephant, Civet (love), Hyrax (cue “For Your Eyes Only”), and one other…I think T-rex?
Happy Birthday! Hope you are having a lovely day!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Scented Birthday! ?????
Best of birthdays to you!!
Happy Birthday! ?
Good Solstice morning! Yahoo, longer days are here again. ?
Tea this morning was my Empress blend dupe, followed by Chamonix (both from Upton.) SotD is OJ Taif , sort of by accident. I have a bottle of the body lotion that I need to use up, so of course I must wear the fragrance, too.
Ta’if is wonderful. You smell great.
Thank you, LizzieB!
You smell fantastic AnnE! And why don’t I own that body lotion?
??
Of course you must! And you smell great!
Do you mean Fairmont Empress tea? If so, would you consider sharing your recipe for a dupe? It is one of my favorites.
Hi Vee, yes, that’s the one! I first had this years ago and have been ordering it since. Now that I’m exploring more teas, I thought it might be fun to try and re-create it. Here’s my latest iteration. Not an exact match, of course. ? I will be happy to send you some if you want to try. I’m standing dawt armsakimbo in gee male land.
35 g Ceylon
15 g Assam
15 g Robert Fortune Blend
10 g Kent
10 g Keemun
I can also give you specific varieties if you write. ?
Stupid spellcheck. Kent = Kenya
Littles and I toasted the solstice over our breakfast this morning — fun to have the season change right in the middle of a meal! I’m wearing Theorema to celebrate, and smelling like the world’s classiest pomander.
That’s a good one — you smell marvelous.
Perfect description of Theorema 🙂
That teapot ornament is adorable! I spent yesterday in Hermes Bel Ami and loved every second of it, and today I’m in Paracelsus. Lately Mr. G has taken to telling me what notes he discerns, which is kind of cute. This morning he thought he smelled gardenias and Cetaphil (go figure), and the other night he correctly identified (in a somewhat astonished manner) a smoke note in Kerosene’s Broken Theories. He also said it might be his favorite perfume of mine — an excuse to put a FB on the list? I think so!
Lol, there’s a Cetaphil note?
And yes, I would definitely add that one to the fb list.
That’s what I said! Cetaphil? But he’s kind of right – we use the stuff that comes in a tub, and there is a faint, plasticky-chemically smell. It’s not unpleasant, but I have to say that I don’t notice it in Paracelsus. Might be the lingering effect of his having worn a Breathe-Right all night. ?
I enjoy Mr. Allo’s “nose knows” moments. He definitely has powerful soap, powder and ozonic radar.
Wow, soap and powder are easy, but ozonic notes? He’s got talent!
A compliment from the hubs is the best excuse for a FB!
Absolutely!
Yep!
You’ve managed to train Mr. G’s nose well! Mr Missionista is still stuck on “it smells like perfume” which is what he says about everything I wear. 🙂
*chortle*
Mr M and Mr V should hang out while we go perfume shopping.
Gardenias are definitely not a beginner’s note to ID! That’s actually kinda impressive.
Gabrielle Essence, which was last year’s Christmas gift. Goes well with jeans, black mock turtleneck and black, white, grey flannel shirt. And the sky is gray out there to go with my outfit…. I am considering one of those lights that help in the winter. Just to turn on as I have coffee and read first thing in the morning,
Need to do some cleaning and organizing today. We easily lose control of our living space. I have one more package to pick up at the post office. Once I wrap that and the other two in my closet, I’m ready.
Friends of ours left on Friday for the winter down to their place in FL…first night there and a tornado goes through their complex! Everyone’s ok. Minor damage, some clothes flew outside. But goodness!
Yikes! What part of florida are they in?
I am gray day twins with you.
Fort Myers. Unclear yet if it was officially a tornado.
So gray out there, I found myself looking at Dior red lipsticks. I have Sydney, but I tried Rialto at Sephora the other day and it was very nice. I think Dior’s lippies are my favorite.
It’s grey here too, and I have also spent a lot of time today looking at red lipsticks. And blush.
Oh wow, that’s so scary!
Glad to hear that your friends are all right!
Happy Winter Solstice!
I can’t wait for the days to become longer again.
Wearing Atelier des Ors Iris Fauve today.
I’m right there with you! Can’t wait either!?
You smell great! Spring is coming!
Armani Bois d’ encense for a chilly SoCal day. Not sure if I should go to dinner or not with numbers rising in LA.
It is so hard to do risk analysis all the time!
Just got my hair cut and my stylist was telling me that her vaxed & boosted sister got a breakthrough case, was terribly sick and was getting monoclonal antibodies today. Notably, she was the only stylist working who had a mask on. Many of the customers were masked though.
Oh my god. Makes me very thankful for my salon, which has never stopped requiring masks, taking temperatures, and doing the symptoms questionnaire. Sometimes it seems like a bit much, but then I hear stories like your stylist’s. ?
In my corner of SE PA, it is awfully variable. There are places where everybody seems to be masked and places where nearly nobody is.
The list of things I have not done since the pandemic started is so much longer than the list of things I have gone back to…so I am doing my few things, masked, and trying not to worry about it.
Yikes. Hearing your stylist’s story must have hit close to home.
Trying to “think spring” in Jour d’hermes Absolue today. I’ve always liked it, but today it is just hitting the spot. Maybe because I’m especially winter averse this year?
I am winter averse every year but it does seem worse right now.
Same!
Given my burden, and joy, of being primary yard work person, I am never Winter adverse…sometimes, a girl just wants to sit on the sofa with cat and and blanket and book yet feel the work is done, donchathink?
Yes, I do think! ?
I’m in Heretic Scandalwood, after thinking about it yesterday.
The shortest day of the year! I made it!
The sun peeked in my office windows this morning for just a little bit before it turned gray. The windows face the east, so looking forward to more sun as these days start getting longer.?
There’s a solstice bonfire tonight (marshmallows provided) at a local nature preserve. I can’t make it, but it would be a perfect way to celebrate the upswing on daylight.
That sounds like the best possible way to ring in the solstice during these trying times.
That sounds very fun 😀
A solstice bonfire sounds awesome!
Wearing no 5 edt today. I find that I am preferring the edt version to the edp version. I wore Theorema last night and this morning and lived every second of it.
I prefer No 5 in edt also. You smell great.
I am wearing Dame Pefumery Earth Mother today and drinking a large cup of English Breakfast tea.
Oh, you smell great!!
Yum!
There is weak sunshine this morning for the first time in ages! I am enjoying it before the wet cold sets in again. We may have a white Christmas, but I’m not looking forward to shoveling snow. I’m wearing Musc Tonkin.
Winter solstice sunshine is excellent – we’ve had several sun appearances over that past few days.
Cold and frosty today but the sun keeps peeping out. Sunshine makes everything better. I’m still enjoying Interlude Woman from yesterday, it’s lasted this long. After a shower, I’m putting on Black Orchid.
Black Orchid is great for a cold day, isn’t it?
Summer solstice was knocked about by strong winds but today is clear and calm and gentle on the eye. Wearing Crabtree and Evelyn Sandalwood and off to work on my tan! (Not).
Happy Summer Kanuka!
I am envious of your summer…
Happy solstice Kanuka!
Happy Winter Solstice!
I’m in Mandarin-Basilic which is giving me some much-needed zip! I almost cheated on the dregs front by splashing on my more-than-dregs Feve Deliceuse, but I don’t want to repeat the bout of nausea I experienced from wearing four heavy hitters simultaneously over the weekend. So today it’s only three. ?
Pacing oneself is very important, especially over the holidays…
Very wise, AnnieA!
Awwwwwwwwwwww, that’s a shame about perfume-induced UGH! Mandarin Basilic is a lot more substantial than I expected it to be.
Awwwwwww thanks, Jalapeno! I think it was more Holly-induced UGH since I liked two of them and kept huffing away. Mandarin-Basilic was enjoyable and the other three weren’t so it was a good day of the dregs. ?
Yay! Last working day of the year, I’m not back at work until 10 January. I’m celebrating this happy day with Neela Vermeire Ashoka.
Smelling good!
So happy for your time off – hope it will be restorative for you!
Enjoy that hefty chunk of holiday time!
SSS Equestrian today. I’ve been unable to find this for ages, have thought about it often over this past fall, and assumed I had tossed it out on accident.
Nope, found it yesterday during the Great Van Clean Out. It was tucked in a pocket of a small purse I only use occasionally. I’m very happy to have found it.
We’re off to civilization today for a night in a hotel and a doctors appointment in the am. Was very lucky to be able to get in (derm dr) on short notice and I’m hoping they can excise a suspicious looking mole tomorrow morning!
Until then, I’ll be busy jingling all the bells!! ?
Good luck with the appointment!
Yay for van cleanouts! It’s always nice to find those things that have been inexplicably missing.
Good luck at the derm and hooray for finding lost perfume!
What sistine said!
Uh-oh, good luck with the mole. Definitely better to be cautious about those!
Hiya house twin! Yay for finding a misplaced perfume! And good luck with your derm appointment.
Good luck with you derm appointment tomorrow. I always stress about moles that turn out to be fine, and my derm finds problem ones that I never noticed. I’d go quarterly if my insurance would cover it!
Went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art yesterday, which has a wonderful gift store which helped scratch off those few remaining items on my gift list. Next up: wrapping!
I stopped in Malle to try the new Synthetic Jungle which is a powerhouse of a green scent, reminded me of Cristalle, and many say No. 19 especially. It lasts and lasts, and I can even still smell it on my wrist right now after showering last night and almost 24 hrs later. Wouldn’t mind a 10ml travel spray should Santa happen to drop it in my stocking.
SOTD: Vouloir Être Ailleurs C.G.
The Met is such a comforting place. I love visiting it.
It is comforting! So agree and why I probably have upped my visits this past year.
My lemmings start dancing when someone says …”a green scent…lasts and lasts, and I can even still smell it on my wrist right now after showering last night and almost 24 hrs later.” Down, little lemmings, down!
Lol.. yes, same. I so appreciate a scent that lasts. This one is quite pretty, a modern take on those Chanel scents. Definitely would seek it out!
There’s been a fair amount of positive buzz about Synthetic Jungle here at NST.
We may need to try that one…..
The Met Store is the best. The silk scarves with images from paintings always seemed to me like the perfect gift when you have no idea what to give someone.
SOTD is Bulgari Black, for hygge purposes. I’m getting more rubber in the top notes than I usually do. Kind of nice for a change, actually.
I’m at the end of meetings for this week for work, which is a relief after two weeks straight of long, long meetings. Now I just need to burrow into some writing that I’ve left myself for this week. I’m also planning breaks to build a gingerbread house and bake / decorate cookies with Ockeghem Tween (I made the sugar cookie and gingerbread dough this weekend and it’s been sitting in the fridge). Oh, and at some point I really should get a jump on gift wrapping.
You smell great!
I could append “for hygge purposes” to about 90% of the things I’m doing these days…
Gingerbread house! How fun!
Smart move to make the cookie dough ahead of time! Geez, I haven’t baked in what seems like forever.
Winter is finally here, so I can officially start complaining. Lol.
It’s not bad today though. Cool, cloudy and dry.
I am wearing Fenty perfume from a generous nster. It is really very nice. I mostly smell rose, and it reminds me of Eau de Protection but not so in your face. Half a day to go, and then I get a day off. I can’t wait! Unfortunately, I found out that the store will be cutting hours immediately after Christmas, so I will have more time but less money. ( this isn’t a surprise, but I still don’t like it)
Why is it never more time AND more money?
I know! Or how about the extra time when I need it, like this week! Lol
Enjoy your day off! I like Fenty a lot too. Sorry about the cutback in hours.
I think it’s really good. I did 2 sprays this morning and it’s still going strong.
Sorry about the cut – but from some of your comments in the past, I suspect you will be the one “They” will call in for extra hours!
True. I am not counting my leisure chickens before they hatch!
It’s nice anticipating a day off! That’s too bad about the shorter hours but then you never know.
Yay for a day off! But, argh, less $$$ after Xmas, when people usually need it the most. Sigh.
Wearing MPG Cuir Fetiche for the second day in a row. It’s really holding up to the cold weather we are having.
Happy Solstice one and all! Let’s hear it for more light! And hopefully less COVID, and less of all the friction this pandemic brings. I had a screaming fight with the tween this morning, and am just feeling down about more people becoming ill, holiday parties being cancelled, on and on and on.
Hugs to you. It’s a very trying time right now.
Sending more hugs; I’m sorry for your difficult morning. These are indeed trying times, with the feeling of impending partial-normalcy continually being yanked further away. Wishing for peace, safety, health, and lightness of heart for all as we (in the north) tilt back towards the light.
It is all very wearisome.
Making a point to be intentional about all the things I have to be grateful for right now.
Sorry missionista. If I could send you some light I would.
Oy, I hope the day starts better tomorrow. We’re all trying to find the right balance and making the choices we’re comfortable with.
More hugs missionista. I’m feeling some strange tension in the air right now myself.
I’m wearing Dedcool’s Taunt and trying to figure out my perfume choices for when we drive up to see my husband’s family. There is usually … drama, shall we say, when we’re up there so I’m trying to figure out what to bring to help me keep my cool.
Today I had a yuzu pomegranate lemonade and it was just the yummiest thing I’ve had in a very long time.
Good luck with the drama. I understand that challenge and in some ways feeling content to not be with family right now.
I hope it’s a shortish visit!
Yuzu pomegranate lemonade does sound insanely tasty! ?
I got it at Shake Shack. Nummers!
One of my advent calendar’s jams-of-the-day was yuzu-lemon, and it was so tart and bracing and yummy! Best of luck with figuring out your anti-drama forcefield — what a drag to have to anticipate that dynamic *and* deal with it in person.
SotD my first ever Comme de Garcons: Rouge. This beet-loving gal can appreciate that. However, if I had not looked it up on Fragrantica (it was a surprise sample from LuckyScent) I would have thought of only smokey and woody and amber. My local Winter Solstice is emphasizing the “Sol” with crystal blue skies and mild temps, and I am going to drag Mr. Mossy out for a walk.
You smell great wafting beetroot! Beety goodness:)
Yay for moderate temps and sun!
You smelled good today!!!
That’s a very cute teapot ornament!
SOTD = Andy Tauer Dark Passage
Day 21 of perfume advent calendar – tobacco, birch tar and patchouli! So good but sadly discontinued.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CXwi6iJO1Nw/?utm_medium=copy_link
And Day 21 of the Beehive and the Chanel advent calendars yielded a soap and a very cute mirror!

I had an enjoyable solo lunch at Season’s 52. I’ve been thinking about the wine flights made up of three 3 oz. drinks and decided to try it today. I had it with a full flatbread and took my time drinking and eating. I walked off the alcohol with some retail therapy ? ?before driving home.
Someone should collaborate with you on a hajusuuri perfume advent calendar for next year!
You have quite the mix. It would be great for someone unfamiliar with the indie brands.
I made this myself with only brands in my collection. That said, I kept promising myself that I would do a more extended time of indie only perfumes. We’ll see!
So far, it sounds like the Guerlain advent calendar has been the much better buy.
I enjoy both and there’s definitely something to be said about the intangibles.
I don’t know this Tauer but based on your description, you smell amazing.
And thank you for sharing your daily goodies. I’m vicariously enjoying the advent calendar cornucopia 🙂
Thanks! I think it came out in 2012 as part of a Kickstarter campaign. I wish he would reissue!
I wish that Andy Tauer would bring back his rose perfumes! They were gorgeous.
I hadn’t even realized those were dc’d!
Yeah, I think they were gone in 2019.
I’ve heard so much about Une Rose Chyprée.
Oh, your lunch today sounds fabulous!
It was wonderful!
How fun! I like going to Seasons 52. A friend of mine and I often go there for our joint birthday dinners.
Excellent choice for lunch…..I have a Seasons 52 near me and pre-pandemic would enjoy their great happy hour with small plates and flights of wine.
SOTD is Chergui, from a decant sent by the ever-generous Hajusuuri. Finally sprang for a FB today that looks from the website like it is an older pre-reformulation version. But from a website I have never seen before called Zabiva. Fingers crossed that they are legit. They had 4 bottles when I first came across them over the weekend and today were down to 1 bottle, so I caved.
You smell great! I hope you get the pre-reformulated version although methinks reformulations have happened previously.
Had my last massage therapy appointment of the year, so have been commando but am about to put in something lovely. Probably No 5 parfum, but maybe Wrappings. Or Shalimar. It’s such a delight to have access to these beautiful scents.
All my official documents are now on hand for the Ireland trip. It is still on as of today — fingers crossed. And I just learned that Irish phone carriers now support e-sims — they did not prior to July of this year — so I will be able to manage the trip with one handset, vs. two (because I am program director, I pretty much have to be reachable at both my U.S. and overseas numbers on a daily basis).
A happy, peaceful solstice to all. If any of you are awake at 03:45 EDT (US) : 08:45 GMT on 12/22, check out the livestream from Newgrange:
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.irishcentral.com/events/watch-newgrange-winter-solstice-2021-live-stream.amp
Keeping my fingers, eye, and toes crossed that your Ireland semester happens!
2nd that! Good luck skalolazka.
Thanks, Robin. All fingers and toes are crossed here (except the cat’s; he will NOT be pleased, though we do have a sitter lined up).
Thank you! If I go, Winter Palace (decant) will go with me, and I have you to thank for my falling in love with that one. 🙂
Good luck and all fingers and toes crossed that everything works out.
Thank you!
I’m in MEMO’s Marfa, today’s Twisted Lily advent calendar offering. I keep vacillating between like, and not so much. I have spent most of the day working on an obituary/death announcement of a deeply beloved colleague who passed away yesterday after an illness (not COVID). She was one of those people who did so much, filled up so much space with goodness and love, that I swear there was a sonic boom when she left the world.
So sorry about your beloved colleague.
Oh dear, that’s so hard. My condolences, Oakland Fresca.
My sympathies about the passing of your friend and colleague, Oakland Fresca.
So sorry to hear that. I hope you’re able to come up with the right words to express it — but it already sounds like you’re on the right track.
You are doing the work of a good friend, OF. My condolences to you.
I really like Marfa, but I recognize it’s a lot.
When I pass, if someone says what you said about your colleague in reference to me, then I will be beaming from the heavens. The world has lost someone great. I’m glad you had a chance to know her.
I’m so sorry about. your loss. I really love Marfa and bought it on first sniff.
Sorry for your sad news….some people really make their mark, which is wonderful, but so hard for us left behind.
Oh I am so very sorry Oakland Fresca.
I am so sorry. A thoughtful obituary is a labor of love.
I’m so sorry — sending hugs your way!
I’m so sorry for your loss, OF. Your brief description of your colleague here is quite touching; I’m sure the obit you are writing will be too.
That teapot ornament is adorable! However, I have not had a Christmas tree in decades, because cats. So I will admire it from afar.
SOTD = back in SSS Incense Pure again today.
Thank heavens our cat has grown immune to the tree’s charms over the years.
Glad that someone’s cat ignores the Christmas tree!
The teapot ornament is totally adorable! And so was the baby Yoda crystal ornament that appeared when I clicked the link for the teapot. Yes, I am a Star Wars Geek.
We all have our various geekdoms here, I think. No shame in that. After all, I have been called a perfume geek by non-perfumista friends. And it was meant as, and taken as, a compliment!
Smelling great again!
Thanks! Giving serious thought about a new BUB of Incense Pure in 2022. Time to let my credit card cool off a bit from recent perfume benders… ?
Do you do any other Christmas decorations? I used to do a lot. Now I just do a tree and a angel wreath on the door. I like the angel so much, I would like to keep it up year around.
I haven’t put up Xmas decorations since 2009, when we had water damage in our house due to a flooding clothes washer. That rather effectively killed the Christmas decorating spirit for me. We used to have lights on the steps to the front door, and lights on several of the bushes outside, plus 2 indoor wreaths. Now most of the bushes have been ripped out by the HOA’s landscapers. Most of them died, or were deemed a fire hazard by being too close to the fireplace.
I might put up some lighted garland inside if I can get some ambition in the next day or two, plus some Command adhesive hangers.
When I was a kid, our cat was always madly tempted by the Christmas tree for the first day or two and then got bored with it — fortunately, she didn’t generally go after the ornaments, just tried to climb it.
Cute tea pot.
I am wearing all my favorite scents this week- modern Red Carnations yesterday, Mitsouko the grand old Dame today! Tomorrow will be rose and incense, Thursday will be Iris, Friday will be some jasmine or other. I am off Friday. Ah.
That sounds like a good mix for Xmas week.
Robin, I copied you today because when I read that you were wearing Rousse, I thought, what a great idea! I have both it and Louve and tend to forget them because they seem too simple. But after having it on all day I’m now realizing that Rousse does have nuances beyond the cinnamon!
A belated hey was-twin!
It rained here today. I when it rains!!
We got back home from work early because of the rain, right after an early lunch. First thing I did upon arrival at the house was a shower. Right after shower – application of my new treasure – In the Rain by Floraiku to match the entire mood of the day.
It is 10pm now here and about 9.5 hours since I applied In the Rain and I can smell it very well. I can actually smell it on my wrists 9.5 hours later!! Insane.
I love when it rains*
Yay for rain! It’s raining here, too, and I think everyone wants to do joyous dances in the street, including the poor stressed oak trees.
Your post reminded me that when I was in junior high, the fragrance craze was for “rain” scented things — inexpensive perfumes and bath oils and lotions, my friends and I all loved them. I haven’t smelled that particular note in ages but it would whisk me right back.
I love to watch old episodes of Perry Mason, which I remember watching intently with my parents and Grandma on weekends. I see it on MeTV. In the episode tonight, “The Case of the Shattered Dream,” Perry and Paul Drake recognize the scent of perfume in a room where they have just found a recently murdered body. They name it: Eternity! How bizarre is that? This is 1959!
I wore Premier Figuier for the first time today. My first reaction was, oh I like this way more than Philosykos. I proceeded to open today’s advent gift from Mr Vee and it was a mini Diptyque Figuer candle and I felt bad that I had just dissed it in my mind. ?
I am jumping around a bit on my Fortnum & Mason advent teas. I had the rose & violet infusion today, which was delicious but I suspect it is really a rose, violet & hibiscus fusion.
I’m loving being off work this week and being able to prepare for Christmas leisurely, but I can tell I’m going to fall behind on NST posts.
LOL at your (un)timely dissing! How cute is that about Mr. Vee giving you advent gifts?!? I also thought that being off would make me post my SOTD earlier but eh, by the time I take pics and post on IG to post the link here, it is not so early anymore.
