It's Almost-Friday and Jane Austen’s birthday. RIP bell hooks. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Hermès Eau de Néroli Doré, my pick for the 2016 episode of the Best Buy community project.
Reminder: 12/17 will be Best Buy Friday...wear your favorite fragrance purchase of 2021. If you didn't buy anything this year, pick a favorite from a prior year. (This is a repeat from 2016)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Pride and Prejudice Book Page Wreath is available in 3 sizes (12-20 inches; $42.50 - $90) at Ballard Decor at Etsy.
My dentist appt yesterday was a no go. After looking again I need more work than anticipated, so I had to come back after the holidays for a 2 hour visit. ?
For the CP
Travel spray if TF Neroli Portofino
Oh, yuck. I’m sorry you have to wait, and hope you won’t be in any pain in the meantime.
Oh, two hours at the dentist is no fun.
So sorry!
Sorry about your dental woes! At least you smell very happy today.
Oh no, that’s no fun to look forward to after the holidays…Sorry for the dental distress.
Oh, poop. I’m so sorry!
Sorry about your dental stuff, I hope you aren’t in pain. Put it to the back of your mind and enjoy these days with your littles.
This all happened from eating almonds. I am never eating healthy again! ??
Oy vey! That’s a shame about your dentist appointment! ?
It’s a beautiful sunny day here in NYC and it’s supposed to reach into the low sixties!
Robin, thank you for including the link to 2016. I went back and read all the comments – I always enjoy reminiscing about people who are no longer active here and what we were up to back in the day.
I had a very successful dregs day yesterday as I loved the two I wore, and was once again reminded that I can still be entranced. Today I’m quite gourmand in Madeleine and Cacao Porcelana, and will refrain from blurting out the two additional ones I’m temporarily wearing which are scrubbers.
Happy Thursday, everyone!
agree Holly! reading the 2016 thread is great as I remember nothing.
I was wondering “hmm… what was I up to?” So weird.
I also loved reading the pantone blurb in that post “We know what kind of world we are living in: one that is very stressful and very tense”…ha, but little did we know!
I thought the same. Yikes!
I was working on some content yesterday, from a presentation by my boss, and she refers to being “post-pandemic” in July 2020.
Wow, that’s serious optimism!
I read some of the thread too! Missing all those who have commented in awhile
Yeah, I miss them too…
Glad that some of those dregs are making you happy right to their very end!
Thanks, Jalapeno! I’m really enjoying this process!
Demeter Waffle Cone, sweet and salty and startlingly accurate.
When they get a scent right, they are really accurate. I love several of the Demeter scents that smell precisely as they are named.
Nice!
I’m wearing Prada (Amber), from a mini that I’ve had for years and which I’ve hardly worn.
Ditto with my mini of the Eau Ambree! And I need to get my hands on more of the Prada Homme, I’m almost out.
Good morning.
I took a dive back into the past and looked at what I wore. My sotd is the very similar Miss Dior Original (I wore the extrait but I am sadly out).
Currently drinking almond latte, sweetened with stevia.
It’ll be a nice day here, if you like warm weather! A few months ago I divided my smaller decants up into summer and winter perfumes. I’m almost done with the summer box. Yay me!
Wearing the lovely AG Ce Soir ou Jamais, which I can appreciate but not pronounce. Gorgeous, realistic rose with an interesting dry down that seems to have no resemblance to rose, at least on my skin. What do y’all think of this one?
https://www.howtopronounce.com/french/ce-soir-ou-jamais
It’s so lovely here I did a quick jaunt on my bike 🙂
Aha, now I know! Thanks, and glad you had a chance to go for a bike ride. ?
I like Ce soir ou jamais, hasn’t it got some ambrette in the drydown? It’s been a while since I last put it on.
I’m sure that’s it. It registers as a light musk to me, which is in the same family, if I’m not mistaken.
SOTD is Avignon, which I think fits the CP (I bought it after Christmas last year, so it didn’t show up until January). Taking the day off work to drive Ockeghem Tween’s mini school applications in (yes, some of them require you to show up in person, in this day and age! And some of them have set up basic Google forms…it’s all over the map and apparently the school district provides no support). Oh, and I’m going to have a massage. I need one!
Enjoy the massage. The school application process sounds like a nightmare.
Wearing my best buy cheapie of this year, Cardin Paradoxe, that I bought for just 13 €, its really a bargain for the low price.
Good deal tannina!
Feeling cranky but smelling good in PG Iris Oriental, which I bought a partial bottle of this fall. It was one of those situations where I had sampled it, missed it, realized it was no longer easy to get in the US, and panicked. So when I found the partial bottle, I jumped on it. It’s not as rooty as I remembered, but I do still like it.
Sorry you are feeling cranky!
(And I swear that *nothing* is ever as rooty as I remember it. Either everything is getting reformulated or my memory tends to amplify earthy notes.)
Such an early start this am –
42 degrees in Sunny Socal.
SOTD is MM Russian Tea. This could be a purchase but it would have to be prior to 1/1/22 as I am looking at doing a 6 month no spend.
It was cooler, temp-wise, in SoCal than it was in Philadelphia this morning! Weird!!
Aha, so you have a couple weeks left to shop!
I’m wearing quite a lot of Atelier Sud Magnolia as the dabber vial slipped, but the top notes don’t last long so all will be well.
Sorry, hope you didn’t lose what was left!
Wearing Fille en Aiguilles, a long time love of mine and therefore very not CP compliant. It smells so good on this cold and wet morning.
You smell perfect! Fille en Aiguilles is great on a cold, damp day — such a good blend of cozy and bracing.
I’m in Pas Сe Soir by BDK Parfums, from a sample. If I’m going to wear a fruity floral, I like it like this — with some spice, complexity, and depth.
I liked that one, too. More than Gris Charnel which everyone but me loves.
I dont love Gris Charnel.
ditto (but I bought a full bottle of Wood Jasmin, which has very few admirers. So there is that.)
Robin, you’ve created a lemming with that book page wreath. It’s gorgeous!
In honor of the freakishly warm weather, I’m wearing Fils de Dieu. Also wearing it because I could not get another 30mL of it from ELdO…However, since they are still producing it, it could be a good candidate for the next splitmeet. Would anyone else want to split this? I am so close to finishing my 30mL–I think I’ve only got about 5mL left.
50mLs would be too much, then? I think ELdO is keeping that size.
There are a LOT of book page crafts on Etsy. At first I though they were all so clever and then the destruction of the books started to bother me, ha! But it is a great idea and love that they’re large enough pieces that you can read them.
I probably peaked too soon with the CP — wearing Le Lion today, which is perhaps my gladdest purchase of the past year. It’s “Chanel does Guerlain” to my nose and I like it immensely. It’s also harmonizing with the advent calendar JOTD (Jam of the Day), which was apricot-bergamot.
Rain like an open hydrant last night and today it’s blue and gold and squishy and glorious with a superabundance of songbirds gleaning seeds and perhaps waterlogged bugs. Off to the woods for a morning with a local college professor who’s interested in learning more about the forest stewardship work on my beloved preserve and perhaps bringing student field trips out in the future.
I saw some numbers about CA’s snowpack earlier today that were headed in the right direction. Glad to hear that! ⛄
That sounds like an enjoyable way to spend the morning — hope it was!
Hermessence Osmanthe Yunnan and a cup of Unbirthday Cake tea
Good name for a tea. What if you drink it on your birthday? ?
Wearing no 5 extrait today. It’s grey outside and feeling sluggish today. I might wear Coromandel after work tomorrow.
Do you vacation coming up or looking forward to the weekend? Regardless, you smell great in No.5 extrait and even better if you decide to go with Coromandel!
Just looking forward to a weekend off. Coromandel comes after I get off work tomorrow.
Still CP compliant in another favorite buy (I’ll wear my top favorite tomorrow) this year: a travel size of Iris Poudre. This one is “my” No. 5. I probably won’t wear it often, but it will be special every time I do.
Off to get my act together with Christmas shopping and baking. I’m very behind. Please send me “get it together” vibes! 🙂
Sharing with you all my “get it together vibes”. I am also behind on all my Christmas stuff. But we will get done, no matter what! ?
Soldiering on!
I agree! I hoard my travel spray of Iris Poudre, which means I should probably break down someday and get a real bottle. I like No. 5, too, but IP is just so lovely.
There’s something magical about IP!
Iris Poudre was a happy purchase for me this year, too — it almost seems too well behaved to suit me but it just smells so darn good.
I’ll send you get-it-together vibes if you send me some in return! I still have to shell about a million walnuts, bake a big batch of biscotti, and finish wrapping and packaging. Christmas snuck up on me this year while I was feeling complacent about being mostly (but not at all fully) ready.
Yep, sending you the vibes right back! Good luck to all of us who feel behind!
You smell so fabulous, how could this not give you special powers to get everything done?
Ha – it happens!
No motivation for Xmas stuff here either, alas.
Stay strong!
That IP drydown should be bottled with nothing else.
😀
Bad night of on-call. Wearing Tam Dao, soothing but sort of activating to help keep me awake. After much coffee, now drinking a cup of greek mountain tea, from the Sideritis or ironwort plant. This makes a lovely tasting herbal infusion that looks like tea and tastes like a mild mix of marjoram and oregano, sometimes. Lots of bioflavinoids of unusual sorts. Good for eyes and nerves and tummy….
The tea sounds interesting. Do you have a favorite brand, or do you concoct it, yourself?
Hope you feel better!
I’m sorry you had a rough night — I hope the days and nights ahead are gentler! Your tea sounds intriguing. I brought home a bunch of yerba santa (Eriodictyon) from a recent trip near the Stanislaus river, just in case anyone here gets a respiratory infection this winter; not the loveliest tasting tea (it’s a bit bittersweet) but so good for what ails ye!
Hope you get good sleep tonight!
Received a bottle of current Cabochard from eBay yesterday, it cost all of $14, shipped. Portia did a review of it a while ago. First off, the bottle is pretty. And the juice is a leathery chypre that morphs from uncompromising leather to creamy flowers with a leather whisper. I am glad I got it.
Whoa! That Cabochard sounds awesome!
I like current Cabochard too! Did you get the EDT or EDP?
The edt, that’s what Portia reviewed. Now I’m curious about the edp!
Wonderful day in NYC ! Sunny, warm, very pleasant. I took a walk at lunchtime and wish I could have stayed outside longer, but work was calling my name! ?
Wearing Iunx Talc and having my third cup of coffee with a big slice of panettone.
Happy almost Friday!
Happy almost Friday indeed! I love eating panettone and pandoro for breakfast at this time of year, I grew up with no such continental goodness so they still make me feel like an exciting and glamorous globetrotter when I eat them (bought locally-same effect ?). Hope the rest of your day goes very well.
Lol! Those Italian breads are so good! I also love Colomba! Let’s keep feeling glamorous when we eat them! ?
Oh yes!!! Colomba makes me so happy (although it’s hard to find here as it hasn’t caught on in the way panettone has). Thank you for this reminder of happy times?
You smell totally glamorous! Talc is wonderful.
Thank you, Allo! ?
Wonderful weather twins today! It sure made it easier for me to motivate myself to get some errands done this afternoon.
It was gorgeous! We reached 60 degrees, and we are expecting 62 for tomorrow. I think the fall season is saying goodbye in the best possible way! ?
Mmmm Iunx Talc is so good!
Thanks to you! ?
No CP for me today as I’m in Chanel Allure EdP. My appreciation for Chanel has grown in the past year or two. But, as I said to the Ulta SA yesterday, I’m kind of a Guerlain girl.
Speaking of Ulta…bought a little Murad gift set of Vitamin C serum and cleanser on sale in the store yesterday. Got home and someone had obviously tampered, so it was 2 cleansers…. Closest Ulta is over an hour away. Sigh. Long story short…I have 60 days to return in-store, which I decided is doable. But I insisted on a free shipping code to buy a replacement.
We were down in the area of Ulta yesterday to get service on a used car we are buying from our neighbor. It’s in good shape but we need 4 new winter tires. Arrghhh. But the ride was hairy. Temps spiked up, creating very, very dense fog in parts. The last mile or so to the dealership was as dense a fog as I’ve ever seen…and I grew up in Nor Cal tule fog. When I woke up this morning, every last big of the snow in our backyards and woods was gone. Just gone. Looks like no white Christmas for us.
It’s interesting…I’m fine with how it worked out with Ulta, but they really weren’t what I’d call customer-focused.
I love allure , I don’t wear it as often I as should
I had no idea until I tried it from a bottle I got for free. I love it. I doesn’t get much press, though.
I agree, Chanel pushes No 5 but others like Allure and Cristal etc are after thoughts
tule fog puts fear in my bones.
Argh! What a PITA on your ULTA purchase!
I’m wearing the last two of my Zara Vibrant Cities samples today: Magnificent Dubai and Stunning Venice. Both get a thumbs up from me. MD is is a cozy scent for winter. The notes say saffron, nutmeg, and leather, but I’m getting more oud than leather. It’s a wood pudding cousin. This would be a fantastic winter time candle (I should check to see if Zara makes one). I would love to curl up in a blanket that smells like this to drink a chai and watch a movie.
SV has a red berry note that is tart and light and give this an alpine feel. It’s good on its own, and I think I would like it layered with the rose note in the London frag from this series. I’ll test that later. In the meantime, sniffing both MD and SV together reminds me of the Nest Holiday candle.
Meant to make a pot of Chocolate Puer today for the extra caffeine, but grabbed the bag of Chocolate Chai by mistake. Still tasty.
Are any of those Zara perfumes FB candidates for you?
Yes, I am pretty sure I’ll get FBs of Magnificent Dubai and Stunning Venice. I hear Fashionably London calling my name too, but I have objectively better rose + citrus frags already on my shelf, so I really don’t need it. On the other hand, Zara frags are so inexpensive that I tend to give into my whims with them, so we’ll see. I would really like a Magnificent Dubai candle, but I don’t see one on the website.
I am trying to imagine a JM wood pudding! Not her style, usually.
On a scale from Jell-O-pudding-made-with-skim-milk to so-thick-and-creamy-your-spoon-stands-up-on-its-own pudding, this is definitely on the thin Jell-O side of the spectrum, but it is on the spectrum.
Ha!
I’m in the divine DSH Muresque. So beautiful. This was from a split, maybe? Anyway, I have a huge decant. This is definitely one I could bury my nose in for hours—who needs meditation when there is perfume like this?
She makes some real gems, doesn’t she?
I’m in Tauer’s Sundowner again. I’ve purchase a few new perfumes this last quarter. I’m not sure why because I haven’t been really tempted in a while, but when it rains, it pours. I’m very happy with all of them and have zero regrets. Well, maybe one. I wish I’d gotten a FN of Au Coeur Du Désert instead of the mini, but I’ll remedy that mistake in a couple weeks.
Also did a lot of makeup shopping because of some really great holiday deals. I’ve replaced almost all of my makeup this past month, and then some.
So far really enjoying Tower 28 tinted sunscreen, a couple of items from CT (the matte lipstick in Pillowtalk Medium especially) and some fabulous cream eyeshadows for a one and done eye, my favorite! Still hunting for a good mascara that gives volume, length, and doesn’t transfer. I have deep set hooded eyes and it’s a real pain to find good mascara. I’ve tried a couple cheap and expensive tubing mascaras but even those leave smudges. First world problem, I know! If anyone has any suggestions, I’m all ears. Still waiting for my Sephora box that was forwarded to me from my mail service. That should be here tomorrow.
I recently bought a CT lipstick
What do you think?
This is the only color I have so I don’t have a lot of experience with her lipsticks. It was a freebie, so I had limited color choice. That being said, I do like it and don’t find it drying like so many other matte lipsticks can be. But what I *really* want to try are some of the Lisa Eldridge lippies because her colors are just stunning. CT doesn’t have a great color range (at least colors that I like!). I can’t wear any type of nude because I look dead. I prefer bright berry tones, pinks, pink/corals, and blue based reds. And Lisa has a TON of those colors.
I have a Lisa Eldridge one , Gloss Embrace in the color beauty
Do you like it? Is it worth waiting for? (Shipping wise?) or do you think it’s easily dupable?
For me, Chanel , YSL and Tom Ford are my favs
Deva, I have on the Tower 28 tinted suncreen right now. I like it a lot. And the face spray.
I am also wearing Kosas mascara today. It’s pretty good on these old eyes and doesn’t irritate or flake.
Yes! Have to say the Tower 28 lived up to the hype for me, too! I’ve heard good things about Kosas as well.
I have a concealer from them arriving in my Sephora box tomorrow. I have to go back to civilization next week and will stop in to check out the mascara. Thanks for suggestion! ?
You would probably love Lisa’s lippies. I have her Luxuriously Lucent in Kitten Mischief. It’s a good mid-tone with a more creamy finish; great for everyday. You may like Painterly as it’s a cool tone. I find the velvets a bit drier but not uncomfortable. Oh, and her glosses are fantastic! Not affiliated, just a big fan.
Good to know! I’m have been lemming Myth for a looong time!
Oh, and that Sephora box contains a (perfume) travel size blind buy..!
I only use waterproof mascara b/c I have issues with smudging, too. Doesn’t cure the problem, but cuts down on it quite a bit for me.
SOTD Mumbai Noise.
this didnt work for me. How do you like it?
I had a Christmas meeting at work, with a nice festive dinner for all the employees. I wore a nice shirt and a cardigan and I smelled of Atelier Cologne Rose Anonyme.
Wonderful!
That is the best one from Atelier in my book! ???
It’s one of your early lives! You smelled nice!
For the CP, today I’m in Cuir Ottoman. I found an older 100ml bottle on eBay early in the year, which will last me forever and then some.
Yesterday’s perfume was my most recent purchase, Daphne by L’Aromatica. It’s part of their naturals line, LARO. Since it’s natural and EDT, it’s not super long lasting, but it’s such a delight and to me smells pretty darn close to actual daphne flowers. I reapplied a few times yesterday and am so happy with my bottle purchase. I also noticed that while it’s somewhat short-lived on skin, it lasts much longer on fabric. I liked sniffing the inside of my shirt collar. ?
Is this the line that has Kulfi?
Yes! I first tried their perfumes years ago when they had an Etsy shop. Glad my Pumpkin Honey oil will last me forever because they don’t make that one anymore.
Ooh! I didn’t know about the LARO line, so thank you for mentioning it. Daphne sounds lovely, and I noticed a few others that sound really nice. Have you tried any of the rest?
I also like Kauai Pikake and Chanson. I haven’t tried the full range yet.
Thank you.
Wearing lots of Carnal Flower, body oil and eau de parfum. Had another great walk and even saw some sunshine. The weather has been rather grey and dreary of late, so this was a very welcome change.
It’s amazing how much better one can feel after seeing a bit of sun this time of year! ???
Hello perfume friends! Escaping into happy things here. My perfume news is that Robert Piguet has arrived in my city. There I was, completely unsuspecting of such delights, and suddenly I was able to try Fracas (adore it) Kasbah (is that the correct spelling? Reminds me of Armani Privé Bois d’Incense-so clear, so dry, so gorgeous) and Baghari (reminds me of something that I cannot place but I love that one too). This happened yesterday and crowned an absolutely rubbish day/week/month with delight-just pure delight. I feel like I have finally arrived as a perfume person, now that I know what Fracas smells like. Wishing you all some moments of delight today!
Oooooooh, Casbah sounds good!
Yes!!! I must try it again but it is very very good!
Oh, what fun, and so glad you appreciate Fracas…we are a small club 🙂
Small but mighty! It’s a club I’m proud to be in. 🙂
🙂
I am sure the current version would break the hearts of die-hard /vintage fans, but I am just so happy I have finally been able to try it! I saw a bottle in Liberty’s years ago, alongside a SL Iris Silver Mist, and how I wish I’d just bought them both unsniffed. I am no longer in pursuit of ISM, but this bottle of Fracas? Well happy new year to me!
Yep — better late than never, and happy New Year!
Almost record-breaking temperatures today to go along with Almost-Friday! The mid 60’s (degrees F) should be a distant memory. But at least one more day of this is on tap.
SOTD = back in Divine EdP, because a honey & rose perfume sounded pretty darn good to me.
You smell lovely!
Thank you!
Woo hoo. It still felt coldish though but I did manage a shortish walk!
It was warm enough for me that I didn’t need a jacket or a hoodie for my errand-running this afternoon!
I went jacketless on an errand this morning and I loved it (it does also frighten me tho).
It was so lovely!! I could use another week of this.
I was NOT feeling well this morning after Shingrix #2 — the pharmacist did give me a heads-up that many people have cold- or flu-like symptoms after the second dose, so at least I didn’t freak out. The good news is that my shoulder is not nearly as sore as after shot #1.
Am much better now, and ended up choosing Hiris for today, which is an acquisition from this year. I love this stuff.
Glad that you are feeling better now.
What jalapeño said and you do smell nice!
Congrats on making it through your second dose. Shingles is no joke.
Apparently I won’t be getting a minutes peace today, lol.
Sotd is original Alien. ?
Oh oh … you can do it!
Well, phooey!
At least you smell really good tho!
Oh hey now, I just order a travel size flanker of the one!
Hello peoples…crazy busy again today!
SOTD = Parfums Dusita Le Sillage Blanc
From my perfume advent calendar day 16: green, earthy and smoky leather. I have a travel spray! ?
https://www.instagram.com/p/CXkF8jAOUDu/?utm_medium=copy_link
I am looking forward to tomorrow as it’s my last day of work in 2021! ?
If You don’t mind me asking, which advent calendar does the Dusita travel spray come from?
I made my own: bought a chocolate advent calendar, removed all the chocolates without opening the numbered slots, filled each with a brand (14 indie / 10 mainstream) and whatever brand I draw, I select from my collection. It’s fun! I included 2 wildcards in the original mix of brands but I haven’t drawn them yet so far.
Whoo hoo, One More Day!!
I can’t wait!
Congrats on your last day! Hope you have a restful and delightful holiday with family and friends! ⛄️
Oh my Gosh!! I have never smeller BR545 yet But I LOVE the daily lemming bottle so!!
It’s a really nice looking bottle, agree.
My morning SOTD, Gris Dior, was dictated by my Advent calendar, but later I’ve applied a top 2021 fragrance buy for CP points: Rose Petal Drops, one of the scents developed by perfumer Jo Malone for Zara. I just love it, and it’s a true bargain beauty!
