It's Friday and Emily Dickinson's birthday. Our community project for today: wear a fragrance with a note she mentioned in one of her poems (helpful lists here, here, here).
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm in what I think of an outdoor rose: Diptyque L'Ombre dans L'Eau. (Une Rose by Frédéric Malle would have been even better, but I'm all out.)
Reminder: 12/17 will be Best Buy Friday...wear your favorite fragrance purchase of 2021. If you didn't buy anything this year, pick a favorite from a prior year. (This is a repeat from 2016)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Robin, you smell perfect! I’m in Slowdive, in honor of her poem Apotheosis, and hoping its sweet gorgeousness can break the grip of this heavy, tired crankiness that’s been with me for the past week. Off to the woods for a brief check-in with a forester this morning, and then hoping to find time to put the lights on our Christmas tree.
I have my fingers crossed for you, Isabella!
Lights up, but crankiness unvanquished. I’m blaming chronic insomnia and a four-day migraine; crankiness is the correct respose to these factors, yes?
Yes it is! Hope you get some restorative sleep and that migraine goes away.
I hope that you can get those lights on the tree! Maybe with your young philosopher’s help?
Well, we’ll call him a help in that his happiness is a great motivator! I did get them up, in spite of a visit from the Christmas light gremlins that ensure that after testing a string of lights to make sure it works, and then taking the time to wrap it around the tree, it then fails to light I think it’s a conspiracy.
I have to confess I haven’t been all that familiar with Emily’s poetry, even though I have one of her poetry books. It was my uncle’s from when he was in college. It is only recently through the show Dickinson on appletv that I have heard some of her poems. We first started watching the show because we thought that it might appeal to madtownteen, but my husband and I ended up really liking it too. I think Hailee Steinfeld is fantastic, and of course Jane Krakowski is as funny as ever.
Anyway, I don’t think of myself as a morbid person, but her poem Because I could not stop for Death really appealed to me.
Because I could not stop for Death –
He kindly stopped for me –
The Carriage held but just Ourselves –
And Immortality.
We slowly drove – He knew no haste
And I had put away
My labor and my leisure too,
For His Civility –
We passed the School, where Children strove
At Recess – in the Ring –
We passed the Fields of Gazing Grain –
We passed the Setting Sun –
Or rather – He passed us –
The Dews drew quivering and chill –
For only Gossamer, my Gown –
My Tippet – only Tulle –
We paused before a House that seemed
A Swelling of the Ground –
The Roof was scarcely visible –
The Cornice – in the Ground –
Since then – ’tis Centuries – and yet
Feels shorter than the Day
I first surmised the Horses’ Heads
Were toward Eternity –
I’m in Heeley Blanc Poudree for the rice note, because rice is a grain.?
Thanks for posting that poem, mtg! I used to read Emily Dickinson a lot in high school, and loved that poem, but haven’t read it in years.
Beautiful poem. I have an old friend from college who majored in English, taught HS English for years and loves ED. She highly too recommended the Apple TV series.
This is such a wonderful poem to lure young people into the wonders of poetry – yay for your friend who probably used this in a lesson plan!
Thanks for posting the poem, it brought back great memories. I loved this poem in high school, it really spoke to my gothy teenage self! Hahahaha.
Thanks for the poem. I love the ‘Dew’ line
Thank you for the poem. I realise I have read that before, but many years ago.
Thanks for sharing this poem, so melancholy.
TGIF! Wearing Tauer Phi Une Rose de Kandahar, just because….
Happy Friday! ?
Just because and you smell great!
Thank you! ?
Never need a reason for Phi!
So true! ?
Oh this is a beauty! It was the first Tauer I ever got to try and I bought a bottle within minutes ?
Same here! One try of Phi and ordered a full bottle immediately! ?. Few perfumes win my heart like that, especially these days with so many boring releases.
I just “met” Phi this week…
How was the “meeting”?
Yay for wearing a perfume that makes your heart go pitter-pat!
?
Emily Dickinson is one of my mom’s favorite poets, but she has never been one of mine. Sorry, Em! Anyway, today I’m in Smell of Weather Turning, since so many of her poems used weather/storm/rain imagery. I can’t really pick one in particular.
That’s a perfect match!
Thanks! I love today’s project because it gave em an excuse to wear this perfume, which I don’t do very often.
Wow, what an evocatively named perfume! I hadn’t heard of it, but I just looked it up and it sounds glorious.
That was another consideration–it is the most poetically named perfume I own. I find it variable. Some days it’s glorious, others it is just too overpowering. One spritz is all it takes for this one. Happily, Lush sells 30mL bottles. Mine will last a long, long time.
I actually decided to do the CP today, because I received a decant of Eau de Protection this week. These are thorny roses indeed. Thank you, enabler Pyramus.
Oh, perfect, and I think the name fits as well.
I felt like wearing Arquiste/ J. Crew No 57 since it’s snowing out and 57 is so cozy. Fortunately, Emily has a poem that mentions oak, so I’m project compliant.
A perfect winter choice
You smell lovely. I need to pull that one out.
I’m also always amused by No. 57 and it’s companion, No. 31. There were two bus lines in NYC I took frequently because they overlapped through a big part of their routes. The M57 and M31. Such a fun coincidence I thought.
I really like those two and feel lucky to have snapped some up just as they were discontinued. That is a fun coincidence about the bus routes!
It looks like they are available on the Arquiste site
Wearing Estee Lauder Pleasures today. Was thinking of a couple others but wasn’t up for digging through my closet. Diorissimo and Mitsouko were the 2.
Hope it is a good day Dawn!
I have only a mini of Pleasures, but after only one or two tests, I say you smell wonderful!
Good morning and TGIF!
I succumbed to the long temptation and finally got a bottle of J’adore L’or and I am wearing it today. CP points for jasmine and roses!
Currently drinking jasmine green tea to match.
Congrats on your new bottle! And you’ve convinced me to go make a cup of Yin Hao jasmine 🙂
Dickinson chypre day five, and what could it be but Mitsouko? I’d be hard-pressed to name a scent that has given me more pure unbridled pleasure over the years.
For me that’s got to be Diorissimo, I guess? Or Theorema? Something like that. Anyway, good to be in *that* perfume.
I’ve really enjoyed your chypre posts this week, especially one early this week on Ted Lapidus’ Creation. I, too, was introduced to this fragrance via a mini and fell in love with it. It’s a favorite of mine in April, when Spring makes the world come alive here in the Midwest. Thank you for that nice memory as winter begins.
Hello there, scent twin! Thanks for inspiring my choice.
The husband is home today, so I’m CP-compliant in Rose Infernale.
Here to report that the Cheetos mac & cheese was pretty good. As boxed mac & cheese goes, I prefer Annie’s, but Annie’s doesn’t have the charmingly electric color and Cheetos-y flavor of this one, so. Today’s lunch will likely be salmon and farro, since you know. Husband. Glad I lived it up yesterday!
You smell great, thanks for the report n the cheetos mac. 🙂
I’m here to report on the important things in life! 🙂 (and thank you!)
I am a Kraft person, I guess, since that is what I grew up with, and Annie’s didn’t taste right to me the one time I tried it. But also haven’t had any mac n cheese for years and years. I salute you for trying the Cheetos.
Ah! I also grew up with Kraft, but then I didn’t have any boxed mac & cheese for 15 years. Then I had Annie’s, and it didn’t taste quite right but it was tasty, and by the time I had Kraft again, Annie’s had become the standard in my brain, and suddenly Kraft tasted wrong!
It is so funny how it works! There are tastes I remember really strongly from childhood — Tang! — but have not had as an adult at all.
LOL: electric color!! Shopping is tomorrow and if Kroger has C M&C I will power through DH’s stinkeye and drop a box in the cart!
Hahaha yayyyy I hope you find it!!
Yeah, “Cheetos Orange” is a rather distinctive color!
Isn’t it? I kept staring at it and thinking how…strange it looked!
Friday oh thank goodness. I need 12 hours sleep tonight
many spray of L’Artisan Tea for Two. I am sure Emily had more than few cups of tea in her lifetime.
A safe bet…
I hope you get the sleep you need, but either way, you’ll smell fabulous all night 🙂
Another day of staring at half-day-long meetings on a screen. I think I’ll wear something with cedar in it, for “I dwell in Possibility” — maybe pull out the old bottle of H&M CdG.
We can be note twins! I’m back in Tam Dao for the cedar.
Currently wearing the remains of TF Lost Cherry. Interestingly, it lasted through a shower.
Twins! I considered Amber Absolute but that would have been too much for the office or Eau de Vert Boheme in the gorgeous very very gorgeous green bottle but I wasn’t feeling this one either.
A sepal, petal, and a thorn
Upon a common summer’s morn—
A flask of Dew—A Bee or two—
A Breeze—a caper in the trees—
And I’m a rose!
I was almost twins with Robin today, but this poem calls for a slightly sweeter rose, so I chose Dame Desert Rose. One of these days I’ll have to get a bottle of this.
Nice, thanks for including the poem!
Another dark cloudy morning. I’m going to need something sweet and comforting. Mazzolari Vaniglia.
Perhaps you will see the sun this afternoon, yes vanilla is so comforting.
I’m in Tam Dao this morning, in part because Emily must have written reams about woods, and in part just because I wanted to. Arm is sore after yesterday’s booster jab, but otherwise no serious side effects … unless I slept through them last night. ?
Scent twins! I hope you continue to have no negative effects from your booster!
Booster twins! Fingers crossed for continued no serious side effects.
Yay, lucky you!
Yay for booster; just a PSA: I had an icky reaction for 1.5 days post shot. Then six days later, if I massage my arm at the vaccination site, it is still a teeny bit sore. I have been totally “up and running” after the second day, but that shot is working for sure.
Come slowly – Eden
Lips unused to Thee –
Bashful – sip thy Jessamines
As the fainting Bee –
Reaching late his flower,
Round her chamber hums –
Counts his nectars –
Enters – and is lost in Balms.
Jessamines is plural of jasmine…who knew? As such, I’m in Bee’s Bliss – which seems to sum up the poem well.
More snow on the way this afternoon and into tomorrow. Roads likely to be dicey, so we will probably stay close to home. We do have to be out early on Sunday morning.
Jessamines, I had no idea!! Thanks for the fun fact, it’s a great one for perfumistas to know!
Love it, thank you.
Poem twins!
After much delicious procrastination—hunting for proof that Emily Dickinson wrote about the humble lavender– I’ve come up empty.
But I am pretty sure that if I looked long enough, I could find evidence that someone has written a PhD dissertation on the poet’s anti-heroism or some such. So I am going with that–doused in Antiheros’ licorice-leaning lavender.
https://shop.getbullish.com/products/emily-dickinson-air-freshener
Just for you! (Sound of E D turning in grave )
Excellent.
Well, I imagine she would be astounded. Truly astounded. Road trip mental gymnastics would be thinking of what the equivalent would be for someone alive today. Naming the pills a person swallows to remove the bitter flavor in one’s mouth after teleporting–Salman Rushdie?
LOL!
Creative points for you, Oakland Fresca!
Friday!
I would like to be in something rosy for today but instead chose BP’s LOVE scent instead. It’s a chilly morning and it feels perfect.
Am back home for work- and this morning on the team is a doozy!
I hope a good kind of doozy!
On project today in Atelier Silver Iris. Travel-friendly as I am flying to Alabama so my son doesn’t have to drive home for winter break by himself. Weather is supposed to be rainy tomorrow in Alabama. Hopefully not heavy.
I hope you have a great trip.
Good mom award, Sapphire! Enjoy the trip back, and fingers crossed for no more than light rain.
Oh I bought an FB of this recently, I find it so cheerful-hope it cheers you on your travels.
One of my Desert Island candidates: you smell wonderful!
Safe travels for you and your son!
Sotd is Une Rose (cheating for cp points since Robin mentioned it:)
On another fragrant note, I saw Perfumes (Les Parfums), the French film with Emmanuelle Devos and Grégory Magne (from Call My Agent). She plays a perfumer who periodically loses her sense of smell and he is her chauffeur. I really enjoyed it and only wished there had even been more talk of perfume!
Oh good, so glad to hear it is worth seeing! I’d almost forgotten about it.
I liked this a lot too! Good film, but your perfume is a masterpiece ?
Don’t worry, allo, I did the same!!
Before becoming a poet,Dickinson prepared a Herbarium,an album of pressed flowers and local plants, as both an art and scientific project. Included among the pressings was a white daffodil called Poet’s Narcissus.
She later wrote
I dared not meet the daffodils,
For fear their yellow gown
Would pierce me with a fashion
So foreign to my own.
What genius to see the hint of menace in the most innocent of flowers.
I am wearing Channel 19, in which a Narcissus lurks to add a hint of menace to the iris-rose.
I like your selection and your perfume match. House twins today!
Love it! And No. 19 seems to suit something in Dickinson’s character — intellectual and somewhat restrained but with a lushness underneath.
Tabac Tabou is a fragrance that comes to mind as having an element of menacing narcissus — not so much a hint as an “Uh oh, this big creature is gonna mess me up…”
I had my booster shot yesterday and got a migraine this morning. I don’t think the migraine was linked since I get them once in awhile. It’s probably due to poor sleep or driving in the blinding sunshine with no sunglasses this morning (I do have some light sensitivity). I feel better now, aside from a very sore arm. Nonetheless I’m still commando, in case I get some booster side effects!
Eeep. I hope the side effects go away. This whole thing about it’s okay to mix seem too premature to have been news. No implications of course that you mixed. My younger sister and her husband were going to go for Pfizer after having the one dose of J&J in April the same time Indid and we managed to convince her to stick with J&J. I say why mess with a good thing?
Yuck. Hope that you are feeling better soon.
SOTD = Tom Ford Lost Cherry
This is an everything and Emily Dickinson’s sink so definitely CP compliant! I will take a picture and post it in IG later on.
I’m in the office today and had my 1:1 with my manager. For working in the office , he pretty much said WFH at least through the beginning of January. I will probably come into NYC once more so I can get my fill of Christmas windows and the like.
I noticed that the cherries are beginning to ripen on the trees here which is a true sign of Christmas. I bet you smell fabulous.
I’ve always wondered what it’s like to experience Christmas in the southern hemisphere, this holiday that’s so tied to the old winter solstice celebrations and filling one’s home with the reassurances of greenery and light during the darkest time of the year. Is there a cultural dissonance there, or does the holiday become a celebration of the generosity of high summertime?
Thank you. I was also sensitive to my co-workers and only used 4 sprays ?!
Glad to hear that you now have some clarity on going back to the office…
Temporarily. Of course here I am thinking I may go in next Friday anyway to see more Christmas windows but I will decide this on Thursday.
SOTD is Eris Green Spell since pretty garden-y. I love this esp when cold since brings the outdoors in
You smell great! GS is such a beautiful greeny green scent.
I’m Nobody! Who are you?
Are you – Nobody – too?
Then there’s a pair of us!
Don’t tell! they’d advertise – you know!
How dreary – to be – Somebody!
How public – like a Frog –
To tell one’s name – the livelong June –
To an admiring Bog!
I’ve chosen this poem because it seems to speak to the *influencer* age we live in and it is more lighthearted than many of the other poems I’ve read this week. I was thinking about how Dickinson sometimes wrote several versions of one poem, tweaking a word here and there, and it made me think of perfume flankers. So I’m wearing L’eau Premiere this morning in honour of imagination, nature, creativity, and skill.
Off to see the French Dispatch this morning with my son. I am so lucky.
Great connection to the CP. Enjoy the movie and time with your son!
Enjoy the movie! Love the poem 🙂
French Dispatch starts streaming here next week, I can’t wait! Do have fun.
And fantastic choice…yet another I had not read.
That poem was in a book I had as a child (with, yes, one word different) — the mental image of a frog as a drearily public figure always made me laugh.
I wish I had heard this Dickinson poem when I was a kid. Much more my speed than the examples I was exposed to.
I did! I was lucky that my librarian mom read poetry to us as kids. Lots of Edgar Allan Poe! It might seem macabre but we loved it!
What a clever thought! Thanks for sharing the poem.
Going for gold in CP points today, with jasmine-heavy Child perfume oil from my DIY fragrance Advent calendar and a link to a wonderful post about Emily Dickinson’s herbarium book, in which she pressed and preserved flowers. The very first page features jasmine, which was highly symbolic to her: https://www.themarginalian.org/2017/05/23/emily-dickinson-herbarium/. I love it when fragrance, botany, and poetry collide!
What a fantastic site. Thanks for posting this, the images are wonderful
Aren’t they fascinating? I love botanical art. I have a whole gallery wall covered with framed botanical prints by an artist named Isabel Adams (sometimes spelled Isobel online, but it’s really Isabel): https://www.botanicalartandartists.com/news/isobel-adams-orchids-and-great-dixter
How lovely!
The Marginalian is such a great website — I’ve spent hours on it!
I hadn’t seen it before, it’s great!

Reprising my Pure Vanilla / 5 o’clock au gingembre combo from earlier in the week. I think what I’m really after is a holiday baking extravaganza, but this morning’s weigh-in (after last week’s panettone) suggests that I’d better just smell the sugar for now.
I slept through the night last night! Mr. Skal got up and that noise woke me; I thought, “well, I don’t feel too bad, so if it’s at least 5 a.m., I’ll get up” — and it was already 7:15!!! Miraculous.
Yay for sleep!
I’m wearing NVC Trayee today, which brings nothing to mind of Emily Dickinson. Oh well.
On another front, I’m winding things up at my current location and will be road tripping again after the first of the year. Can’t wait to hit the road! Also, dyed my hair purple which I’ve been wanting to do since forever and finally got the gumption to do it. It turned out better than I thought it would. The grey is now a soft lavender and the brown bits are dark purple. Didn’t wear gloves, mistakenly believing since it was a temporary color, it would easily wash off my hands with soap and water. Nope. I was wrong, wrong, wrong..!
You smell wonderful!
Than you!
Missed the K ?
I saw your hands, forgive me but I laughed! I tried a purple “glaze” at the hairdresser’s a few times and also liked it–more how it worked on the gray or silver than on the darker hair.
Ha! I laughed at myself so it’s all good fun. I do like the way it absorbed in to the grey hair- a vibrant lavender/violet. Not sure how long it will last but I only used about a quarter of the jar, so I can refresh whenever. I don’t think this is a glaze, because it’s quite deep, color saturation wise. It’s marketed as a “color conditioner.” And yes, I will wear gloves next time! They also have a silver/grey one I was eyeballing, maybe I’ll try that one after the purple is gone.
Can you say more what the brand is?
I bet your hair looks fantastic!
No gloves!
Kudos to you for deciding that you wanted to dye your hair, and then doing it!
This has been a fabulously poetic week here on NST 🙂
I’m still in the remains of last night’s perfume, Harem Soiree from Arte Profumi. It’s lovely, but fearfully expensive, particularly when I add the postage. On the other hand, I haven’t bought many FBs this year…
I think we should have a week where we all write a poem of our own and match a perfume to it. Kind of like the haiku challenge, but not as regimented. That would get creative juices flowing! ?
Just thunked a sample of Orris Tattoo
Need to dig out my sample, which was a gift from – you guessed it – a wonderful NST’er.
Ha! Doing a little Norm Macdonald there?
I was wearing Crown Perfumery Crown of Gold today and tonight Houbigant Essence Rare, these two perfumes are linked by a lily of the valley note, a flower which ED must surely have written about.
I know she planted them!
‘Almost!’ by Emily Dickinson
Within my reach!
I could have touched!
I might have chanced that way!
Soft sauntered through the village,
Sauntered as soft away!
So unsuspected violets
Within the fields lie low,
Too late for striving fingers
That passed, an hour ago.
I’m not overly fond of floral fragrances, but violet notes are a definite favorite of mine and I have a nice collection that spans the seasons. A winter favorite of mine is Violette Angel from Thierry Muffler’s Angel Garden of the Stars, and that’s my choice for today’s cp. Potent stuff, one tiny spritz is all that’s needed. I can still smell it easily almost 5 hours later.
Unlike Emily’s poem of missed opportunity, I hope you all successfully ‘reach’ and ‘touch’ something wonderful this weekend!
I feel that perhaps she is highlighting the good luck in the violets’ escape from greedy fingers!
Yes, it depends on whose point of view you choose – lucky violets, or unfortunate passerby who missed their beauty!
Or maybe that poem is telling people to look around and appreciate the wonders in their own backyards?
Good point!
Yes! I think there’s much that this poem is saying, the more one reads it, the more it ‘says.’ The beauty of poetry!
Hello everyone! Posting before reading today but I wanted to begin with a thank you-this place has been such a haven this week. Poetry, perfume and all kinds of stories-what a balm. I wore SL Vitriol d’Oeillet today, as it’s my favourite carnation. There is something cold and restrained about its beauty, not thwarted, not frustrated, not even particularly deep but alluring nonetheless. I only know one ED poem well, one of her Hope poems beginning with “Hope is a subtle glutton/He feeds upon the fair/And yet, inspected closely/What abstinence is there!”. No carnation in that one but you could do a lot with the idea of subtle gluttony…Anyway, off to read all today’s comments (and yesterday’s too) and sending best wishes to you all for a peaceful day/night and a good weekend ahead.
I like Vitriol d’Oeillet a lot! A great carnation.
You smell wonderful – one of my first SL loves!
Carnation does have the same root as “carnal”. So maybe your choice of scent and poem are closer than you thought.
I did not pay any attention to ED’s poems even though I own a small anthology of her poems.
Just following through with my classic Guerlains, L’heure bleue today, which smells properly beautiful and could probably suit any number of poems.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Hi there, house twin!
We are smelling good!
Given ED’s love of nature, I had every intention of wearing Zoologist Bee this morning, but my hand moved to Salome instead. I fear Emily would not approve.
Ha, she will get over it 🙂
Borrowing perfumelover67’s reason for wearing my SOTD: just because. And I saw a couple of other NSTers wearing it, too.
SOTD = Guerlain Mitsouko EdP, from a wee dabber sample in The Sample Stash. This is the perfect iteration of Mitsouko: golden, glorious, glowing, and serene. I have no idea how old this sample is, but it is beautiful.
Just because is always the best reason.
And when you keep getting those little whiffs of perfume that smell so good, you know you’ve made the perfect choice for the day! The cherry on top of the ice cream sundae! ??
Yesterday while out in the woods, I had multiple moments where I caught myself thinking, “What smells so *good*?” and then realized it was me.
I need to do a few more turns around the dance floor with Mitsouko. We haven’t quite clicked yet, which is odd considering how mad I am for vintage Guerlains.
Someone’s in love — I bet it was vintage!
It would be my luck that it is vintage. Not labeled as such, though. This version has purred along like a contented, well-fed kitty on my skin for hours and hours now. Such balance between the light and dark elements. I’ve tried other samples that definitely go a bit on the gasoline side.
Cheated today and took Robin’s description of Une Rose as my reason for SOTD….spent most of it outdoors with my outdoor rose.
Put up a some holiday greens and berries in a swag on the front door, now on to the rest of the place!
🙂
(And I need to do a wreath before it’s too late)
When I read about this week’s CP I knew immediately what I would wear today, and it may be a surprise: Tyrannosaurus Rex. Yes this is in honor of ED! She wrote quite a few (eight?) poems using the imagery of volcanoes. I associate T-Rex with volcanoes partly because of its aspects of fire and smoke and destruction, and also because of the advertising Zoologist used for it. (See here: https://www.zoologistperfumes.com/blogs/news/an-interview-with-antonio-gardoni-the-perfumer-of-tyrannosaurus-rex).
Here’s one example of an ED poem on this (short):
When Etna
basks and purrs
Naples is more
afraid
Than when she
shows her Garnet Tooth –
Security is loud –
I found this website which has some links to the relevant poems, plus analysis and in some cases nice photographs (e.g. of Etna).
https://journeys.dartmouth.edu/whiteheat/september-3-9-1862-poems-on-volcanoes/
Needless to say there has been much scholarly and feminist ink spilled about ED’s use of imagery of the volcano to describe herself. Pent-up power, rage, sexuality, danger, heat? (And yes, this was a topic for some Honors freshmen papers back when I used to team-teach in that Great Books course.) (And actually some quite good papers!).
This one also sticks in my mind (this is just one stanza–the full poem is linked to at the site just mentioned):
The solemn – Torrid – Symbol –
The lips that never lie –
Whose hissing Corals part – and shut –
And Cities -+ooze away
Beautiful, but really scary! (Like T-Rex, imho).
Have a good weekend, all. I’ve enjoyed this CP and people’s creative choices!
Oh, I liked that one about Mount Etna!
Bonus points for creative interpretation! And love “garnet tooth”, how perfect.
I am wearing all the garden greens and moss with Dryad. Just came back from our company Christmas dinner and I am stuffed, but it was all delicious.
You’re absolutely glorious in your garden greens and moss!
Commenting much later than I meant to, but I’m taking points for rose with SIP Prima Ballerina.
And I am replying much later than I meant to, but nice choice and hope you had a good Friday 🙂
Did not rise to the occasion of the CP, though a great fan of Miss Emily. SotD for the record was Coco Noir, because I saw it on the shelf. It is a wonderful “sweater scent” but the grapefruit keeps reminding me that it is there and it is like a friend that has some core belief that I cannot shared but who is otherwise so kind and loyal that differences are overlooked.
I like your description of Coco Noir. It’s probably my least worn Chanel, but I can’t turn my back on it.
Does Coco Noir have a HUGE grapefruit note, or is it just rather insistent?
It is very noticeable in the opening. I probably would not have got it if I had first tested my bottle, or known what I know now about how tonka and grapefruit team up. I purchased a sealed, carded sample on Ebay and loved it. Then came the big disappointment when I finally got a bottle and experienced that opening. Ms. Grapefruit goes away for most of the wearing, but on my skin occasionally wafts a bitter, acidic, musky grapefruit rind. My clothes however smell like what I hoped for. Tricksy samples!
Love that description! I don’t smell grapefruit in CN but you are spot on calling it a sweater scent.
I need to wear mine because I don’t remember the grapefruit….thinking I haven’t worn the 8 sprays yet.
I had on my hajusuuri-8 yesterday! I was all-in!
My sotd is MMM When the Rain Stops. Or some such nonsense, lol. It’s supposed to smell like rain and rosewater. Instead, it smells like aftershave and ambroxan. I am matching it to the poem Tell the truth but tell it slant. ( unless you are talking about perfume!) ?
Ugh, aftershave? I’ll skip giving that one a sniff. MMM’s latest offerings have been “Meh” at best for me, and “Bleah!” at worst.
Yeah, it’s like they had a couple of good one’s and then stopped trying.
There’s something in quite a few of those that just bugs the crap outta me.
I have travel sprays of By the Fireplace and Coffee Break and that may be the extent of my MMM purchasez.
Ha! I may keep spelling purchases that way ?
😀
Wearing Zoologist Bee. The weather today is unseasonably mild and raining, with thunderstorms possible. I don’t smell the furry pollen in Bee like I do in hot weather, more like a sophisticated honey candy. I might be imagining it, too. Have a good weekend, all ?
“Furry pollen” is a great descriptor! I love Bee tremendously, so of course you smell great!
“Honey candy” sounds wonderful, too!
