Happy Native American Heritage Day, and happy Black Friday / Buy Nothing Day! Our community project for today is Hide My Credit Card...wear a fragrance (presumably from a sample) that you're itching to buy but don't own yet. Thanks to Lovestosmellgood for the idea!
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm in my standby "why don't I just buy this already" favorite, Astier de Villatte Grand Chalet.
Reminder: on 12/3, we will have a community project! And by Monday, I will decide what it is. I am behind!
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try (but, obviously, often fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

It’s a cold, rainy, featureless kind of day and I’m staying in to do laundry and Buy Nothing.
I’m wearing a recently unearthed sample of Chanel No. 5 EDT from maybe 20 years ago: it’s been a long time since I had any of this, and it is *astonishing*, beautifully constructed and seamless from top to bottom, entirely worthy of its status as a classic. I wouldn’t say I’m itching to own it, exactly, but if I could be certain that what’s on the store shelves is this good, I’d probably have to cave and buy a bottle, just to have the pleasure of its company from time to time. (Eons ago I had the extrait, but the price nowadays is a forbidding $150+ and I don’t even know if I’d like it as well.)
Chanel has gotten pretty expensive. The extrait used to be $95 for a quarter ounce but now $130. This stuff ain’t cheap anymore.
I’d like to hope this price increase means the quality is still high. That said, my three No. 5 edp versions, from the 1990’s and a 2019, will probably be all I ever get.
First to comment – hasn’t happened in awhile!
I have been itching to buy Rose Jamal from Les Indomenables. If I meet my big work goal this summer I might!
Nevermind – pyramus types faster ?
By mere seconds!
excellent work goal and beautiful fragrance choice!
If your work goal is 100% in your control, great. If not, then … I say indulge when there are discounts to be had ?.
That’s a beautiful rose!
2nd.
Good morning and tgif!
Sotd is LV’s Les Sable Roses from my samples.
I don’t have something itching to buy but if a bottle of this landed on my lap I will use it with great happiness.
Currently drinking rose tea to compliment.
Good morning fellow NSTers!!
I am feeling fabulous in Nouez Moi, ooops my sample is running dangerously low ?… But nothing to fear much as I ordered this perfume yesterday. Yesterday = yesteryaaay!! Take my debit card out day for us. We also purchased a $150 fast food playset for my 2.5 year old daughter and a $400 dollar nee birdcage for our parrot. The $400 for such a birdcage was a steal though.
Oh my Lordie, why does this keep happening to me and I keep posting under somebody else… So sorry again!! So embarassing too
I also find myself trying to send a Reply here and instead having a random post far, far away from the original post…
Lately, I seem to be hitting Reply accidentally and then having to Cancel Reply ?
No need to be embarrassed, we’re all friends here 🙂
What type of parrot do you have? I loved and cared for my Indian Ringneck boy for 25 years, and no cage was too good for him!
Also pouring with rain here and very dark. I actually don’t mind the rain at all, but the dark days by 16:00 pm get me down!
I went with the community project today and wearing Iris Ganache. I would love to own a bottle of this, but at the prices it goes for in eBay it seems unlikely I ever will! I have a 5 ml decant that will soon be used up. Oh well. I still have Cuir Beluga, Iris Torrefie and other favourites from this line. They are probably my most worn.
That line is quite pricey. I just got a sample of Tonka Imperiale with my Shalimar mvp order and checked the Guerlain website. Nope, a full bottle of that is not happening for me. lol
Agree about the short days getting one down. But! We are less than a month away from the shortest day of the year and then spring is right around the corner.? (I’m not sure what part of the world you are in)
Yes, you are right, not that long left for spring 🙂 I live in the UK so also nearing winter solstice.
Shalimar MVP is amazing value as Guerlains go nowadays. You get the lovely vanilla of this collection at a much better price! The new prices are really abusive, but might make an ok split as with a bigger 400 ml bottle the price per ml is less- so for 50 ml is around 130 dollars (still a lot but much more acceptable).
I find Iris Torrefie has won my heart, and my Cuir Beluga too makes me wonder if I need to have FOMO about any other Guerlain greats?
I think this line is fantastic. IT and Cuir Beluga are lovely and if you like vanilla, Angelique Noire is another beauty. If you like sweet resins and incense you might really like Bois d’Armenie. Tonka Imperiale is a very well made almond and tonka, if you enjoy those notes. These are all my favourites.
SDV is really popular but for me was a bit too cedary, and though I like it, it is not a love. Neroli Outrenoir has a lot of tea as it dries so less of a vanilla perfume, more neroli and tea. Cruel Gardenia is very musky. With those prices, decants and splits are probably the way to go! With a 400 ml bottle the price per ml is much more doable.
Good to know; I keep circling around Tonka Imperial…from the notes list and everyone’s reviews and comments, I might even have to resort to a sample. Tonka is a note that can really fail for me, but I am such a Guerlain fangirl, if anyone can…
Both Surrender to chance and the perfumed court have that one available in decants.
Hope everyone who celebrates had a nice Thanksgiving. I went to see an aunt and uncle I haven’t seen in more than twenty years. Fun reunion.
Wearing Amouage Love Tuberose, which I would love to buy with a lower price tag.
Wow! 20 years! I bet that was a fun reunion.☺️
Yay for the family reunion – did you talk perfume with them?!? Did either of them smell wonderful?
Oh how cool!!
I have had family here since Weds, more people coming tomorrow…it is quite nice to have everyone together.
I want Grand Chalet too but I’m not sure where my sample is so I’m in DSH Bleu Ambree which will probably be the next thing I buy
And I love that DSH has so many choices in terms of size and packaging. If AdV did that, I’d own Grand Chalet already.
Too late to hide my credit card, I ordered a bottle of Art Meets Art: Like a Virgin Limited Edition earlier this week and it should arrive today. I first tried the line 4 years ago when I ordered their sample set. The line has since been discontinued and I just happened upon Saks who had a few bottles left. Truly a unicorn perfume, so I had to, right? The perfume itself is from perfumer Fabrice Pellegrin and is a wonderful milky orange blossom. Someone on fragrantica described it as “ like an orange pez dissolved in a glass of ice cold vanilla soy milk” and I would have to agree. I’ve been very bad this quarter.?
I’ve also become obsessed with all things Caroline Hirons lately….her blog, YouTube, Instagram, as well as her book, Skin Care. I actually discovered her via Annikky’s blog lifeinacoldclimate. Anywho, I ordered one of her kits yesterday which was STEEPLY discounted, like almost $250 discounted. If anyone else is (slightly?) obsessed with skincare it is worth checking out. no affiliation.
Thanks to everyone for the thumb well wishes yesterday, lol. Got too busy eating and vegging to get back to comment.? First the dog show, then football, then Wes Anderson. It was a lovely day.
Glad you found your unicorn. Hope you have a good weekend.
Thanks Kanuka, you as well!
Milky orange blossom sounds like a great scent!
I have also been into skin care for a few months and started retinol/retinaldehyde and vitamin C/ ferulic so have ordered replacement bottles. I was always very skeptical of skin care marketing and used the same very basic moisturiser since my teens but watching some YT dermatologists convinced me. So far so good.
Yes, I also use a vitamin c serum in the morning and retinol at night. Ready to explore some “acids” and hoping my skin can handle it, they are supposed to be good for exfoliation.
I tried lactic acid a few weeks into starting retinol and regretted it so I advise caution mixing retinol and acids! (if my experience can serve you- I ended up with raw skin around my mouth- almost like a burn). Since then I saw dermatologists caution about this mix, at least until very acclimated to retinol.
I find that with retinol I don’t have that much to exfoliate, and skin is much smoother and brighter but also a bit more sensitive. I parked my lactic acid ? but really my skin is dry anyway.
Just read yesterday’s posts now,. Ouch! Hope that thumb is better. Glad you had a lovely day with your family.
Thanks Laila, it seems to be healing well.
I would file your perfume purchase under music memorabilia. ??
Ha! Yes!??
I had a great night’s sleep last night, and woke up past 6:30 a.m. for the first time in what seems like forever.
It feels like the last few Daylight Savings Time switches have just knocked my sleep cycles for a loop, and it’s taking me longer and longer to adapt. DST goes on the list of “Items Lisa loves to hate,”along with leaf-blowers and “resealable” bags that just won’t reseal, no matter how carefully one aligns the ridges.
But let’s focus on the good this morning, which is that getting some solid sleep makes life seem worth living! Add a triple espresso, a warm blanket and a day off of work, and I have the makings of a perfect Friday happening over here. If I top that off with a few spritzers from my decant of Viktoria Minya’s Eau de Hongrie (CP compliant), I’m all set.
Lol, I am with you on all of those things, especially leaf blowers!
Enjoy your perfect Friday!?
Oh, those unsealable resealable bags are the worst! Right up there with sliding closet doors that come off the tracks.
YES, yes!
I’m in Serge Lutens L’Eau de Paille from a sample. This is my first time sampling it, but I would happily buy a bottle if I ran into one. It’s a nice herby, wheaty scent and I am totally digging it.
Oh, I just made the mistake of checking the Serge Lutens website. They’re having a 25% off Black Friday special.
Oh yes, I saw that too. 🙂 Got myself a bottle of Boxeuses.
Sounds so good. I still love Serge Lutens
You smell wonderful – I am still eking out my sample, but EdP was love at first sniff for me.
Wearing a spritz of Chantecaille Vetyver, which reminds me of Sycomore, but doesn’t make me sneeze. Alas, it’s not much less expensive than Chanel would be.
Yes, those prices really went up!
By way of being Not Helpful At All, here are some of the discount codes I’m being inundated with:

What lipstick are you wearing today? I get a lot of wear out of Charlotte Tilbury Nude Kate and Sienna. Saw you mention CT the other day.
Funny you should mentioned this, my youngest put the top on my CT lippy with out twisting it down. He is only 5, but I was ?
I am still gonna use it!!!
Oh noes…. what a bummer!
Yep, that lippie is still good!
Wearing a dab of SDV. The price of SDV has risen to out of reach for me.
🙁
Salome, because I really would love a bottle of this. My decant is getting a bit low, but as I need just one spritz I think will postpone it a bit longer.
Fettuccine AL pulpo this evening and a nice bottle of bordeaux. Tomorrow we will do some shopping at the supermarket in France and maybe a visit to the Christmas market in Hageneau.
Sounds like a nice day coming up.
I may be tempted to get pulpo to air fry although I understand it is a tricky protein to tenderize.
I cook it in its own juice, just put it in a pot with some garlic and herbs, no salt! Let it simmer at low heat for 30 to 45 minutes, then it’s fork tender. Easy as pie
Well that shopping plan sounds very fun!
Psssst… usually right before Christmas, Aus Liebe zum Duft has a coupon code for 10-20% depending on the amount of your purchase. 🙂 Might want to sign up for their newsletter.
Your shopping trip sounds fun!
Ah, good to know, maybe I will sign up
My best fit for the CP was Hindu Kush from LVDP … until I saw the post above informing us of the OJ Black Friday code. NOW I think I should wear Champaca. Hide my credit card indeed!
People, paypal is entirely too easy to use. Aaaargh.
Yup!
Yes, I perked up when I saw that 30% off as well!
Hello Fragrant Friends–no credit card today….I am busy recovering from Thanksgiving dinner, which I hosted. Happy to report that everything came out great, especially the turkey. I think the secret is a fresh turkey–once it is frozen it is just to hard to deal with.
Wore Ineke’s Idyllwild yesterday and today, and I smell great!!!
Glad everything turned out perfect! Fresh turkey is the BEST! ?
Blessing upon you for hosting! I have no doubt you created happiness.
On the trot as I am off to a dinner with friends: wearing Cuir de Chine by Les Indémodables. I love it.
How long has it been since we could say, in such a matter of fact way, “off to a dinner with friends”?! Hope you have wonderful time!
Right!
It was a delightful evening. Restaurants are still open in Luxemburg but no one knows whether that will last during winter.
I don’t usually like osmathus but here it is so nice. You smell very nice. Enjoy your dinner!
I love osmanthus and this is a really nice rendition. The dinner was lovely, thanks!
Grey Saturday, soaking rain and the blackbirds are making the most of it by hopping across the neighbour’s lawn, pausing every now and then to yank out a worm. The other birds seem to be content sheltering in the trees. If I had a sample I would be wearing Vagabond Prince Enchanted Forest which has been on my list for a few years. Not available here and nor is Goldfield and Banks Silky Woods, which I haven’t smelled but feel drawn to because of the story (Joseph Banks, botanist, Botany Bay exotic plants and creatures). My own experience of Botany Bay, back in the early 90s, was trawling salvage yards for car parts for an old Holden HQ station wagon, while a constant stream of aeroplanes came in for landing at the nearby airport. I am wearing Boronia, Australian at least.
Silky Woods is ?.
$300 for a blind buy. Can you do the perfume maths on that for me, please?
Since you haven’t been indulging (at least no confession from you), you can pretend it’s 3 separate $100 purchases and therefore, perfumath free!
Where does it all end???!! A thirty year perfume mortgage? Arrgh!
And I don’t do blind buys anymore, just large samples. ?
Maybe Christmas?
LOL on your responses!
Gifts to self and gifts to you don’t count. And I heard Christmas is coming. ? ?
Wow, I can’t believe we are perfume-want twins! ?. Just read your post now after I posted below. And thank you for all your beautiful nature descriptions, I always enjoy them so much!?
Silky Woods is really good stuff. So is their Velvet Splendour, which I believe has boronia in it. I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of their Sunset Hour which is arriving in the US in February, already launched in Australia. Fun factoid, Vagabond Prince’s corporate headquarters is right here in San Diego! 🙂
Thanks so much for sharing your nature observations!
Snow is on the way here (lake effect), and my entire household —me, husband, cat — is feeling it. I feel a cold coming on, too, so am just polishing off my third mug of Upton’s Carrot Ginger Beetroot herbal tea, fortified with the sugar in which I’ve stored candied lemon peels. Still commando, and am contemplating a nap. I should be working but cannot muster the energy.
SOTD = nil. Will choose something post-nap.
Hope you feel better soon!
Hope you feel better soon.? That candied lemon peels-infused sugar sounds wonderful!
We were separated at birth! Sister!
Oops wrong spot reply syndrome
Fingers crossed that you manage to head off the yuck!
I hope you can shrug off the cold! Your tea and especially the infused sugar sound wonderful.
I’m in Eris Mx. which doesn’t really count for the CP as it’s a nice 10 ml travel spray thanks to a lovely and generous NST perfumista. BUT, I wouldn’t turn down a full bottle that dropped in my lap!
Unbelievably, I have to go to the grocery store. How can we have so much food and still “need a few things”? Oh well. Mask on, shoes on, out the door. I’ll get my (more enjoyable) walk in later.
ERISBF20, today only, just sayin’ … ?
Why, oh why did I make my ERIS purchase BEFORE BLACK FRIDAY??!!! Live and learn. At least I love it.
And L’Artisan is offering 20% this week so I was able to get a bottle of Passage d”Enfer at a discount.
How quickly I forget that this holiday season is about GRATITUDE 🙂
Allo, I am the original SALE FAIL person: if there is anyway I can get something full price it will happen. 😯
Aww, I feel better knowing I’m in such good company…and in PdT, good smelling company!
;D
Thanks!!
I know it works ?
I need to go too, used up all my eggs baking yesterday.
TGIF! My SOTD (doesn’t fit the CP), is Minuit Enchante by Laura Mercier. Perfect for today’s crisp weather.
My shipment of Deciem’s room spray, aptly named Room, arrived today. I love it. Thank you to the NST’er (pyramus?) to mentioned it. It’s such a great room spray. Would love it in a candle – it’s a great holiday-type scent.
You smell great! Wish that one was still in production.
Brewing up coffee (late again!) and perusing the sales. I certainly don’t NEED anything, but I was eyeing some lined flexpidition pants over at DTC…maybe…
Wearing SmellBent Smoked Ambergris today, although I really wanted to wear MVP. Every single day, I want to wear it. I think I might be obsessed, which generally leads to a poor outcome, especially with anything limited…
Hope everyone had good times with family/friends yesterday, or a peaceful, quiet day solo. Good luck with the sales if you’re indulging today!
I’m looking at sales also, it’s so tempting! Decided to look at my cc balance (I’ve done a lot of home repairs lately) and thought the better of it. I might have scared myself straight (a good thing!).
How do you like Smoked Ambergris?
SOTD = Nishane Ani
From a split decant from one of you wonderful people. It’s a love but do I need a FB?
https://www.instagram.com/p/CWv-RxqpeNN/?utm_medium=copy_link
I will be back because I need to check out a few things …
In other news, H., you started a non-perfume lemming with your Mini-Keurig mention – clearly, you like yours and I am one who enjoys a small cuppa after dinner from time to time. All these Holiday specials…. 😀
And did I mention I bought a back-up? Of course the past 2 times I used the older one, I pressed the correct section of the big button and had no problems. Can’t go wrong with the sale price!
I am sorta-kinda playing the CP today with Le Parfum de Therese, from the recent Splitmeet. I must say I smell wonderful. LPdT and/or Le Lion (also from the Splitmeet) both apply to the CP. I am looking forward to the December 1 end of a No Buy I started for October and November – it was good for me. Le Lion and LPdT are the only two strong likes/(?)loves I have in decant or sample form, but I am not sure they will be “first out of the gate” when the shopping begins. And there is the whole thing of presents for others that I need to think of this month 🙂 . *Perfumed hugs and high fives* to everyone who had to pop up and head to work today: I had 14 years in banking and I know the feeling.
I love LPdT but I do not wear it often. I guess I will not replace it when it’s gone. But there are several other FMs that I’d like to get in small sizes…
Yesterday felt like a Saturday, and today feels like a Saturday, and tomorrow will actually be a Saturday, so my day clock is all off. I’m wearing SVP today from the Splitmeet, and it’s very nice but I still like my Mexique better. It’s like Shalimar on training wheels, and I like a little more heft. I haven’t bought any perfume today, but I bought a lot of yarn on sale for blankets to make as gifts and some chocolate. Wishing everyone a tranquil and restorative weekend.
Oh, let us know how the blankets turn out! Before I bought the bulky chenille for mine, I was online to lookup “roving” which you said you were going to use for your blanket. I had no clue what roving was, but holy Krakatoa, Batman! There are some beautiful colors! Mine is just Plain Jane Gray…?
I’m with you foxbins, I think the Mexique is my favorite of all the Shalimar flankers. So good. But the MVP is a close second.
I’ll have no trouble hiding my credit card today as I have absolutely no interest in shopping today. After several days of cooking/baking and hosting Thanksgiving yesterday for my son and family, and celebrating 3 of our birthdays, I just want to rest and relax and de-stress. Right now I’m waiting at Walgreens while Mr. Laila gets his Covid booster and flu shots, then we’re stopping on the way home for some carry-out burgers and looking forward to another in a series of virtual acoustic neighbors music programs tonight with our favorite local folk troubadour.
I also have so many fragrances I’m not really looking to purchase any at present. But if I had to pick one to be cp compliant I’d probably choose The Vagabond Prince Enchanted Forest. I have loved this one for a long time and have almost drained my second sample. I know many don’t like the scent of black currant, likening it to cat pee, but it’s a favorite note of mine and is certainly dominant in this fragrance along with woodsy notes.
Choosing today’s SOTD reminded me that I wanted to post in last weekend’s poll about what we’re currently listening to and life got in the way. A favorite of mine now is the newest album, The Alchemist, by my favorite cellist/musician/composer, Ian Maksin, influenced by one of his favorite books, The Alchemist by Paola Coelho. Enchanted Forest is not only the perfect backdrop for the beautiful forested Altai region in Russia where this video was filmed but also perfectly suits the magical transformation process that defines ‘alchemy’ itself. And I can’t help but think The Vagabond Prince is the perfect name for Ian, as he travels the world learning the music of other peoples and cultures and then sharing them with all of us. And, until the pandemic hit, having seen him in many concerts and gotten to know him over the years, he is certainly a prince among men in many ways. ?Unfortunately for those of us in the U.S. where he has lived for 30 years, he’s been spending most of the pandemic in Russia, the land of his birth, where the Covid rules are much more relaxed and he is able to perform and tour, and his fans here are missing him. So, here, to send you off to what I hope is a wonderful weekend, is a link to the title track of the album. If you’re able to view this on a large-screen TV, so much the better. Enjoy! ?
https://youtu.be/j56aZh7TfIo
Thanks for the link. Sigh, Enchanted Forest….
Didn’t have a chance to post yesterday and just finished reading yesterdays’s posts – sending belated hopes that you all had a wonderful day and thanks to all of you who have brightened my life in this wonderful place we call NST. ? I’m grateful for so much, but Josh says it more beautifully than I ever could.
https://youtu.be/RuNteKfYvzM
That was lovely, thanks Laila!
Late today, but (somewhat?) CP-compliant in Ormonde Jayne Woman. I’ve been circling this one for years, but for me it’s less of a love and more of an “interesting” and I’m debating. I think it’s more that it’s just not what I usually would wear (even though all the notes should say that I am in love with it) and I’m trying to wrap my head around something different.
That sounds close enough for points!
Wearing Une Rose today, which is probably #1 on my “if I had the cash” list.
I am all out, so it’s on my list too although maybe not #1.
My sample/SOTD that I’d like to upgrade into a bottle is Solstice Scents Violet Mallow. Even though I generally prefer alcohol based perfumes to oils, I’ll probably buy a 5ml bottle of the oil version of Violet Mallow for two reasons: it’s the version I’ve sampled and the EDP(EDT?) is only offered in 60ml, which is more than I need.
Didn’t shop today but it is because I made two purchases earlier this week but that’s it until the end of the month.
I was in Eau des Baux during the day but tonight it’s Doe in the Snow from a generous NSTer, I really want it but the question is when…
Wearing Portrait of a Lady from a kind NSTer sample but I don’t want a bottle which is good because all my money is going to go toward paying off my foot surgery. The only new perfume I’m craving are travel sprays of Imaginary Authors Fox in the Flowers and Waffle Cone, and a bottle of Cabochard from eBay. All are unsniffed so I doubt if I’ll purchase. However, I was fiddling around with my PayPal account and somehow bought 2 bottles of nail polish this afternoon, after painting my nails for the first time in 3 years. I have loads of polish that I never use so I hope I’ll like these.
I’m in a Dame BFMV oil sample; I’ve wanted to buy this for awhile now. But honestly, I’m wearing this because it’s soothing. Our Thanksgiving get together started out great, but there was some family drama that took me off guard. It’s never happened before. I didn’t experience this in my family of origin, so I’m feeling annoyed at the world right now!
We did have some good news though. Step son and family made it home safely last night. They’re shuffling around with cold symptoms, and not much more. They’re trying to get the kids Covid tests this weekend, so we shall see.
I placed a Sephora order this morning for 50% off my favorite It moisturizer, which makes it cheaper than drugstore stuff. Whoop whoop! ?
Sorry about the family drama.
I’m glad your step-son and family are home safe and hopefully they will recover quickly.
I have the bfmv oil too, and contemplate a bottle periodically. Last year I bought the set with the hair oil and used it all up. It’s very fragrant.
That’s good intel about the hair oil. It’s a very good price per ml, so thank you!
I’m sorry you had another theft at your workplace. It must be unsettling for you and your coworkers. This craziness needs to stop.
Ugh! I hate family drama. I hope the BFMV oil helped to soothe you.
So sorry about the family drama! But glad your stepson & family made it home safe.
My sotd is Coco edp. I like to wear something I love on Black Friday. It was busy today, and we had a couple of thieves. Most people were nice though.
I didn’t buy anything. I just haven’t had time to look through the deals. I will probably do most of my shopping next Friday.
You smell good. That’s terrible about the theft.
You smell great!
I was busy making my planned purchases this morning. Sadly the Ambre Supreme by Les Indemodables was excluded from the Indigo Perfumery 15% off coupon as it is a new release, so it will have to wait until next year. I enjoyed wearing my sample today though.
I wanted for a long time to buy Francesca Bianchi The Black Knight. Still have a few drops left in my sample.
