It's Friday! In case you missed it last night, take a look at Beaver Moon lunar eclipse 2021: Amazing photos of the longest partial moon eclipse in 580 years. Whether you saw it or slept through it, it's the subject of our community project for today: wear what you think fits.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I did not see the moon at all last night, much less the eclipse. I did see my nephew in his first high school play (yes, he was excellent, thanks for asking). I went with Ormonde Jayne Ta'if because the image above made me think of it.
Reminder: 11/26 will be Hide My Credit Card Friday. In honor of Black Friday / Buy Nothing Day, wear a fragrance (presumably from a sample) that you're itching to buy but don't own yet. (This is a repeat from 2017; suggested by Lovestosmellgood.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I can’t think of a single thing I own that calls to mind eclipses (partial or otherwise), micro moons, beaver moons, moons, or beavers, so I’m wearing Hermès Brin de Reglisse, just because I was in the mood for that gauzy transparent licorice. It’s currently my favourite Hermessence (this could and likely will change because I am fickle like that).
I wore Ta’if a couple of days ago and found that I don’t like it nearly as much as I used to. The eternal question: did I change, or did it? (My taste in roses these days is *much* more aggressive than Ta’if is, something savage, with some thorns to it.)
Brin de Reglisse is gorgeous….
“Thorny rose” is exactly how I describe ELO Eau de Protection!
Yes! One of my favourite roses. It’s got some real snarl to it.
TGIF and good morning!
Sotd is the moonlight inspired Bvlgari Calaluna.
I also failed to see the moon. Oh well.
Currently drinking rose latte (again! But oh so yum) with collagen.
Looking forward to see what everyone chose for the CP!
Has the collagen made a difference to your skin and hair? I am curious about it.
I used to have the worst peeling nails, all weak and sad but after taking collagen religiously they all healed and stayed strong. I feel that my skin is also less dry? It’s the nails that convinced me there is a difference.
Sounds good to me. My nails need some TLC so thanks for the information.
Are you making those rose lattes at home? Inquiring minds would like to know!
I’m wearing Zoologist Beaver 2016 from a discovery set sample. Meh.
Scent twins! Except that I like it; I bought a travel spray of the original version (2014) before he reformulated it. Citrus, mystery florals, musk and woods.
I probably would have liked the original. Unfortunately, the newer one includes “watery notes”.
ewwwwwwww 🙂
I saw nothing last night but the inside of my eyelids.
SOTD will be Philosophy warm cashmere scent and lotion for a chilly day.
Dawn Spencer Hurwitz holiday sale on – code is light20 PSA PSA no affiliation.
Snapped up a small Caravan Spice with my coffee earlier this morning.
Lol, that’s what I saw last night too.?
I might have snapped up a couple of DSH’s myself this morning 🙂
might have?….
shhhh, Donatella might hear you…
Too cloudy here last night to see the eclipse, but at about 9pm the sky was covered in translucent altocumulus tessellations with the moon shining through and around and floating in a rainbow halo. Wearing Arbolé today in honor of the beavers’ preferred building material, and heading out into the woods to interact with the arboles in various professional capacities.
https://poets.org/poem/arbole-arbole
A poem for your perfume. It sounds like we shared a very similar experience of the eclipse. Is an Arbole a cypress? In the Guardian recently there have been some nice stories about the beavers reintroduced to Britain.
It’s a beautiful poem; thank you for giving me a chance to read it today! Beavers are such a blessing for our natural systems. I only hope that landowners can make their peace with the critical ways that they alter hydrology — humans aren’t great at allowing nature to determine where water ought to go.
My favorite dry and green tree is the western juniper, which somehow finds the ability to thrive with its toes in seemingly soilless granite cracks in the high country, clinging to cliff ledges, perfuming the air in the summer sun. I could write it a hundred poems.
Eclisse Lunare from DSH. Literally lunar eclipse in Italian. I think I nailed the project
Ding ding ding!!
Oh yeah, you nailed it!
Kudos!
Perfect!
You are the goddess of the CP today, for sure!
SotD is Shalimar (you guessed it) MVP. My bub should be delivered today so I don’t have to hoard my post-split 25 mls. I am like Goldilocks and the three bears, I have found the Shalimar that fits me.
Had madtownteen’s virtual conferences this morning. They went well, and as expected. She told me earlier in the week what her teachers would probably say. That she is a good student, but quiet. Yep, that’s pretty much how they went. One of her teachers had such nice things to say that I got a little choked up. More important to me than grades is her emotional health. She is in such a better place than she was a year ago.? I’m so glad she is back with her peers on a daily basis.
Happy weekending everyone!
I’m so glad the conferences went well, and that she’s in a good place!
Hooray for BUB!
Glad madtownteen’s conference went well. I wish schools would stop counting participation as part of a student’s grade. I can imagine it’s difficult for introverted students.
Happy for your girl!
Good news about madtownteen!
I’m glad the Teen is doing better this year. My own tween is also having a much better year this year than last. And I can tell their teachers are too.
I did not see the moon, so I’m grateful for the link to the cool photos!
Hiram Green Moon Bloom for me today. I sprayed more generously than usual, and I like the scent the better for it. After acquiring my Perris Monte Carlo Tuberose, I don’t need another, but I’m very much enjoying this today.
Nice one!
Moon Bloom is a beauty!
You smell all tropical tuberose.
I almost wore Moon Bloom yesterday. You smelled great!
Good morning and happy Friday! SOTD is Sun, Moon, and Stars by Karl Lagerfeld.
The moon was beautiful last night! Mesmerizing. Many folks were outside taking pictures, lots of ooing and aahhing. 🙂
I made a Chicken Khao Soi soup last night for dinner (recipe below), so still not hungry yet but I enjoyed an espresso with cinnamon and my MCT Collagen powder from Sprouts.
I am doing a combination Jessners & TCA (13%) peel this morning. The flaking should be done by Tuesday.
Recipe: https://damndelicious.net/2019/03/28/chicken-khao-soi-thai-coconut-curry-noodle-soup/
Also on the nose!
Lucky you to see it.
Thanks for that recipe – bookmarked!
For the lunar eclipse I think I chose the most fitting perfume I coukd find in my collection – Aedes Cierge de Lune.
I admit to the fact that I smell good ?
Three moon-appropriate scents in a row!
You do smell marvelous!
I don’t have a fitting perfume, so I went tangential: Tauer Au Coeur du Desert, since a) it’s from a sample (micro) and b) I’d have had to have been in a desert to see the eclipse. (Here in the rainy Northwest, we miss most major astronomical events.)
Good news of the week: Today my house is being cleaned by someone other than me! It’s finally renovated enough that our cleaner can come. I have missed her dearly, lo these last seven months. Oh, to not have to spend most of a Saturday cleaning the house!
That’s something to celebrate! The return of your cleaning person.
I would be lost without my cleaning person. Enjoy your clean house this evening.
Whoo hoo for having your house cleaning person back!
Wearing some of my new Francesca Bianchi Under My Skin.
I’m in Heeley Cuir Pleine Fleur for no reason other than that I love it. Happy Friday everyone!
Happy FriYAY!
Wearing my new and beautiful Ella (Arquiste). I don’t know whether the eclipse was visible where I live, I sort of forgot about it. My only “suitable”perfume would have been Nuit étoilée I suppose.
I love Ella! I’ve lost my decant somehow, but it’s one that I like to wear to channel my mother without literally smelling like her. She wore 1000 a lot and I think there’s some degree of Venn diagram overlap between them.
Now you mention it, there is. Although 1000 feels a bit more aloof. I love both, as it happens.
Ooooooooh, if Ella is similar to 1000, that has moved it up quite a bit on the “To Try” list!
Do try it, it is a really great scent. Ever so slightly trashy like fruite chypres can be.
Pacifica Moonbay Bloom for me. Remembered it as I was getting out of the shower. I dislike rollerballs…I swear it took 5 minutes to try and get anything on my skin. But it’s a nice, soft floral.
Going to make a decant of Adam Levine for my hairdresser. She complimented me yesterday and said she loves fragrances. Will see what else I can gift her for the holidays. She’s sweet and young and works hard. She’s doing a girls weekend in our area (she has a fairly long commute) as part of what seems to be a “hunting widows” thing. Not something I experienced in NYC.
Do widows need special hair services? Is this a midwest thing? I have also not encountered this in NYC.
LOL, I would love to know what you guys are talking about re: hunting windows! And you are super sweet to share decants – I love it when friends and neighbors are interested in something I’m wearing!
What are the widows hunting, I wonder? 😀
Yeah, rollerballs are such a pain.
LOL. “Hunting widows” are women whose husbands have gone off with their buddies to hunt deer (or other game). Hunting season has opened in various areas nearby. Our local season opens next weekend. A good excuse for the women to gather themselves and play.
A couple of the women’s clothing places near me are having sales and events.
So, my hairdresser is just getting together with female relatives for their own weekend fun.
Thank you for the clarification. I thought your hairdresser was out hunting for widows for special hair services of some sort.. I couldn’t figure out what widows would need that was different from anyone else.
And I was even daffier – my word blindness kicked in and I kept seeing hunting wiNdows! Got it now.
I’ve heard of similar get togethers for “fishing widows” and “poker widows”. Sometimes there is a surprising amount of overlap between those two groups.
I’m in Chiiyaam from Invocation. When I read about today’s cp, I immediately thought of this line which marries First Nations therapeutic techniques with those of French perfumery and Michel Roudnitska was instrumental in their coming to fruition. Thanks to Angela and Kathryn for writing about this company ages ago! So, notes are Cedar, Lavender, Red Mandarin, Spearmint, Hemlock, Rosemary, White Sage, Cistus, Olibanum, Sandalwood, Tobacco, Spikenard, Juniper, Desert Sage, Rose, Sweetgrass, Water. Sadly, my discovery set has languished and I have very little left in each vial, but I am glad that I was inspired to pull them out! I’ve also learned that they have created diffuser scents with the same notes, used as “liquid smudge” which I love. If you’re interested in reading about them, here’s a link:
https://invocation.ca/en/about-us/
This made me think of doing Dregs December, which would also be Divert December. I have gathered all the samples and decants that are dregs and will either wear, sniff or divert them elsewhere.
PSA for those of you who can’t find Shalimar MVP in the US – I highly recommend signing up for Shop France Inc’s newsletter. Suzan can source MVP for you in Paris.
Thanks for the link.
You’re welcome. I really enjoyed reading their story again!
Those sound really interesting, thank you for posting about them.
You’re welcome. I’m glad you found them to sound interesting!
I had a great experience with Suzan and Shop France – she is trustworthy. She did say that she can get Shalimar MVP in France, but I don’t think she is going back this year – maybe she will grab some extras for her Ebay store?
Thanks for chiming in, MossyBerry! Yes, Suzan mentioned that her November trip would be her last this year. I’ve shopped with her several times and have always been very happy. I recently emailed her about a perfume I was interested in from a house that she has never listed, and she went out of her way to pick it up for me during her last trip even though I said I was in no hurry and I knew she’d be very busy. She’s really wonderful and I’m very grateful for the service she provides!
Hiya Holly! I *love* the idea of Dregs December!
Hiya buddy! You’re welcome to join me – the more the merrier!
I might just do that! Or I might give some of my neglected bottles some attention. Pretty sure a few of those are moping…
I definitely have several of those too! They just don’t bug me as much as the teeming mass of dinkier items.
Howdy Holly! I agree with your assessment of Suzan. There was an issue with the last batch of purchases and she resolved it perfectly! I’m doing a DIY advent calendar thing (see Undina’s blog). I’ve decided in my theme (brands, no repeats) and I just have to determine how to operationalize it. I was even going to let my owls participate but that would complicate things.
Hiya honey! I love advent calendars – I’ll have to check out how things are going on Undina’s Looking Glass!
Back in Eau Premiere today. Just not in the mood for anything demanding. I am happy that my place of employment will be closed on Thanksgiving day.
Eau première, is excellent when you want to smell good and classy without pushing it. I’m not a great Chanel fan but EP is a firm favourite!
You smell great! Eau Premiere is lovely.
Eau Premiere is fantastic!
Yay for getting Thanksgiving Day off! ?
Scent today is Bois d’Armenie. Warming and comforting in the cold weather. I’m very much into sweet incenses with benzoin and this and YSL Caftan are my favourites.
To match this and extra coziness I’m wearing a long wool skirt I got second hand last week with vintage T bar shoes (also second hand from a brand I already loved). Really successful buys. Since discovering the second hand clothing market I’m not going back. A world of affordable possibilities in good materials has opened! Does anyone else do that?
Definitely second hand but mostly in-store op shops (charity shops) rather than online ( except for vintage watches and bags). It is getting harder to find certain things that used to be common, like Shetland wool jumpers. I hope your test results from the other week were fine.
Thanks for remembering Kanuka ? it has been fine! Just a bit unpleasant and hoping I won’t have to repeat it.
I must find nice thrift stores where I live as it’s easier to get it right. Buying second hand online I have tried for quality brands I already know more or less for their sizing etc and so far have been mostly lucky (a few alterations here and there). I love Shetland jumpers!
Glad to hear all is well.
Those sounds like fabulous finds! Most of my wardrobe is second hand, both from online and also a designer closet sale that a local boutique used to do every year. I would never have been able to wear Prada, DVF, Stella McCartney, etc. otherwise. I’m not a big brand name person but the clothes and shoes are so interesting and generally well made.
That’s amazing! Big label brands have for sure better constructed garments. I had dipped my toes in outlets before in my search for well made clothes but the second hand option feels much better in every sense.
I buy most of my clothes second hand. Retail is ridiculous, bad for the planet and pocketbook. I’ve started making my own underwear and t-shirts.
Am I weird or does making one’s own underwear sound like a *really* good idea?? Thanks for mentioning the “unmentionables* and I am going to look into this. Regarding second-hand clothes, though, if like me you live in a small, college town, the options are not that great for mature and/or average-sized people. The nicer clothes that appear in the shops are mostly from young people and are in small sizes. Our Plato’s Closet is always advertising for large sizes.
Does your town, or any nearby town, have a town-wide yard sale? I find those are great for clothes shopping. Thrift shops don’t always have the sizes we’d want. But at least with a day when everyone is out selling, you have a chance of finding someone who is your size, or leaving your size behind, and therefore selling it!
There is a town yard sale that just started recently; then COVID sort of squashed it – if it’s back this summer it would be a good place to check.
Yes, fast fashion is awful. I would love to follow your example, missionista! Somehow I thought making underwear and tops would be much more challenging than, for example, a skirt. I really admire people that can sew. Lately I have been watching videos of self taught people that started to make their own clothes (usually in really cool vintage styles) and I am in complete awe!
I find underwear pretty easy, and very fast, which is a really nice additional benefit. And then I feel very happy and smug when I am wearing it.
You smell wonderful!
Thank you, MossyBerry!
I was going to wear Eau de Merveilles because the bottle looks like the moon rising above or sinking below the horizon, but of course I couldn’t find my sample this morning. So I wore Carillion pour un ange, as the cool and bright notes remind me of a brisk nighttime breeze, and watching the moon rise.
Eau de Mervellies would have been a good one and I have it. Oh, well I didn’t go with the CP this week.
Good thinking – that bottle is very moon-like!
No visible moon here last night because of clouds.
I’ve been dying for some pho, but there is nothing even remotely resembling that here. Broke down and went to Panda Express, which I had never been to before. Yeah, well, what can I say about that other than my fortune cookie told me I’d be coming into some big money soon. I won’t hold my breath.
Wearing SmellBent Hungry, Hungry Hippie today, but I really wanted to wear MVP again. The small part of my brain that likes to hoard said no, I must save it because I’ll never get another bottle, I’m wearing it too much, using too many sprays, I must utilize other scents, blah, blah, blah…
Shut up brain!
I think your brain is slyly trying to convince you to get a BUB. You know you can spray away and will probably never use the whole bottle. Oh those *tricksy* brains of ours. 😀
No, my brain has already decided on BUB, but there’s none to be had, at least in the US.?
That boozy vanilla with Shalimar backdrop is so addictive. I love especially the dry down.
I’m sure you’ll be able to get your BUB!
I think I’ve had pho only once. Too many other delicious things on a Thai menu…
SOTD = Le Labo Vanille 44
My bottle was from September 2013 and still smells as fresh as the day I got it! 8 sprays today despite going to the office. I’ve been smelling soft wafts of it, even while commuting with my mask on. I will take credit because the bottle is to the right of Hermes L’Ambre des Merveilles and above Annick Goutal Nuit Etoilee.
Speaking of masks … I really should stop obsessing over how wrongly some people wear theirs. If you already took the time to strap one on, PUHLEEZE cover your mouth AND nose. Your chin does not need support. What about this don’t people understand? The NJ Transit conductors don’t ever say anything while they are walking through the train as they know a confrontation will delay the train.
And I saw the moon this morning – a huge one, so I obviously missed the eclipse.
I think no one says anything because they don’t want to start a confrontation. People have lost their minds, and you never know if you’re going to get verbally abused, have that person deck you, or get shot. I don’t say anything to anyone, even in the hospital. I call the supervisor. He/she can get into it, because I don’t get paid enough to deal with that kind of crap. Makes be appreciate my little kookaburra all the more! She’s just so REASONABLE! ?
https://youtu.be/FfpCGmlFJ1g
I really can’t help myself. Lol.
When I was at school we used to sing that as a round, seemed to go on for hours. Then we were taught to play it on the recorder and, strange thing, I can still remember how to play it. Young brain never forgets!
We did the same thing in my elementary school. ?
We learned to sing Jingle Bells in Spanish and I can still remember it…
So glad you couldn’t resist! This kookaburra doesn’t sit in the old gum tree since there are none here, but she loves to sit in the jump seat and tell me how to drive. ?
I don’t remember if I learned The Kookaburra song “back in the day” but it is a delight and I am glad you shared it. One classroom song I do remember is “Don Gato” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnWzlbFkQPg
‘broke his little solar plexus’ always made us giggle once we knew Don Gato was going to recover!
I agree, we just don’t know how someone will respond. And having the higher-ups handle it is the way to go. Not in my band-width either, I just avert my eyes and avoid.
Yeah, that came up on an all-company call yesterday — our customer-facing staff have to deal with customers insisting they come in without masks even though it is against the provincial health order. The execs gave the same advice — call in the manager to deal with them.
I just try to avoid them except when I’m already seated, I don’t want them to sit near me but I usually get the winners.
My local news had a story about a school event. Everyone in the picture had their mask under their nose.
Oh boy. I bet the photographer told them to do that!
Mr. SmokeyToes calls chin-masks “chin diapers”.
I am going to have the hardest time keeping a straight face the next time I see someone doing that, because I will be thinking “Chin diapers!”.
Seriously…or the under the nose as Nose Drip Catcher.
You smell so good!
Thank you. I remember you trying it at Barneys (R.I.P.)!
My dad does the mask under his nose thing. My sister warned me before we went to visit, and I made it his granddaughter’s job to guilt him.
(What the #&@*# is the point of a mask if it is not covering ALL your breathing holes? I do not get what people are thinking.)
Agreed! I hope granddaughter is still in his good graces!
I noticed the last time I went grocery shopping that only about half the people in the store were wearing a mask. GAK!
Seriously yuck!
I was intent on being on point today with the CP. Close, but no cigar. I settled on Violet’s Nuée Bleue, another blue, skyward phenomenon. I am really enjoying this house’s perfumes, but they are so fleeting for me. (sniff!)
I was going with a castoreum rich scent, because.. Beaver! So I did a combo of vintage Avon Occur topped with a bit of musks koublai Khan. I smell rrrrrrr!
Dinner was roast pumpkin with Miso butter and rice, would have liked pasta better, but there was leftover rice to use up.
What do you think of MKK? I heard it’s horrible/great depending you who you ask. I tried it once about 10 years ago and didn’t think is was that “dirty.”
I am a big Musk fan, and didn’t think it was all that. Some love it though…
I think it’s a tiny bit dirty, but in a good way. Smells a little bit like wet sheep’s fleece and flowers.
Occur! is a great choice – rrrrrrr! indeed. I only have samples of MKK, and I don’t think it’s all that dirty, nor “all that,” either. Both my samples are newer versions, so perhaps the reputation was from the first edition.
Occur! was lovely. At least, that’s what my smell memories tell me.
I woke up with my face still swollen. I called the dentist and they are giving me antibiotics.
I am a cp failure today, but I smell good in Shalimar edp.
Lillyjo, I’m so sorry! I hope that the antibiotics kick in quickly and that you feel like yourself very soon.
That’s no good. Poor you. I hope the swelling goes down and any infection clears quickly.
Ugh! I missed what you had done/or will have done, but I hope the swelling dissipates soon. Also, hope you have something for pain! ?
Smelling good for the win! I hope you feel better fast.
You smell wonderful, of course. Hope you are feeling better soon!
Ouch! I am glad you are on antibiotics, I hope you feel better quickly!
Ugh, dental pain is the worst! I am sending you gentle, nice smelling recovery wishes.
Oh no, hope you feel better soon!
Oh no! I’m glad they got on it right away, though.
Nothing worse than dental pain! Feel better soon!
Oh, no! I hope the antibiotics work and you feel better soon. Dental pain is dreadful.
Aw! Boo, hiss, and UGH for dental pain! Sorry to hear that. Hope that you feel much improved tomorrow.
You guys are the best! Thanks for the well wishes!
You poor thing! I hope the antibiotics clear it up quickly!
I had missed your ongoing tooth problem (I didn’t check in everyday this week), hope the antibiotics will get the infection sorted and that it’s not too painful.
Happy Friday!
1) No moon for me- it rained last night in Portland!
2) Am in LM Ambre Vanille- perfect for the steel grey day AND partial moon eclispe. I am reminded of “Dune” where in the book the moon above Arrakis reminds people of maud’ dib, the little desert mouse.
3) Yes, I am gonna see Dune again, why do you ask? 🙂
4) One interview yesterday had to moved to this morning- which was actually great as I got to speak to members of the engineering team this time. The interview I had yesterday was brief but nice, but then I was subjected to this sort of intelligence test in which I was ask to rotate things in space, solve math and word problems, etc. I did this, but have mentally ruled this employer out. Tests like this show intelligence as developed through specific types of school, not actual skill and business sense. No thanks.
Enjoy Dune again! And again!
And again!
Just the warmth and texture of the film and sound score. UGH, I LOVE IT.
Enjoy Dune! I still need to see it. That’s one for the big screen…
It really is one for the big screen! The visuals and sound really should be appreciated on the big screen!
Oh, yeah, I HATE those tests and you are 100% right in not considering that employer.
I also hate it when employers make you take personality tests. I had a software company do that to me several years back — they strung me along for months, made me meet multiple times with a manager who asked me the same questions both times, and then said the job was basically mine but I had to take a personality test. I’d already decided I didn’t want to work for that manager but thought it would be nice to have an offer in hand, so I took the test, and they came back with: “We don’t think your personality type is a fit for the team because it overlaps with someone already on the team.” Uh…honestly?
The claim is that those tests show how a person is really going to be able to act on their feet during the first 90 days of employments and it’s a no no no. People shift and adapt in ways that those spatial aptitude tests cannot account for. It’s also low key discrimination towards those who are neurodivergent or have legal blindness – I have worked with people who are both and they have shown me a thing or two.
And people can fake personality tests; using such things and then saying that they overlap is simply bad people management.
Yeah — my impression was that most major software companies moved away from those tests in hiring years ago. You’re so right about the tests discriminating against many types of people.
My beef with the personality tests is that they don’t have much (any?) basis in science. They’ve been shown to have biases, from what I’ve read, as well. And they can totally be gamed. But…now they’re using them for private school admissions, it turns out. (Sigh.)
Oh, it’s pure pseudoscience masquerading as organizational studies. Ugh.
Dune is one of the best science fiction books out there. I really liked the new film adaptation and actors and looking forward to the next instalments!
I couldn’t help comparing it to the David Lynch one which I also like (a little bit for sentimental/ nostalgic reasons), but this one is certainly more faithful to the book and beautifully made.
BTW I also LOVED that they featured the little desert mouse in the new film- nestled in a water saving bubble/den 🙂
Wasn’t that little scene an utter delight?
Ad I loved how Paul visions are of POSSIBILITIES of future events, like in the books, not things that are set. Brilliant.
Those tests should not be allowed. Disgraceful to use that to evaluate how someone will work in your organization. I think orgs that use them must be really dysfunctional.
It’s has a stench of EEOC violation, in my humble opinion. And I think you may be right- if not dysfunctional, then lazy people management.
Re: #4 – I’m convinced that there are certain roles for which the tests to which you were subjected would be appropriate. Just yesterday, a forum colleague asked the path through which training materials got approved by internal stakeholders. The workstream lead said that one group had book smarts and another group had street smarts. You can decide to which group you belong based on the job.
Robin, good on you for going to a high school play and glad it went well.
Wearing A la Nuit which kind of sums up my eclipse experience. I spent a wonderful time standing in the warmish breeze, taking in the most stunning wafts of perfumed flowers ( rose, rhodos, azaleas, clematis) and freshly mowed lawns while looking up at (moon) backlit clouds, all silvery blue and metallic. No sight of the actual moon or eclipse at all. The good news is there will be an eclipse of the sun in seven years so I hope I am around for that.
Sounds like a lovely moment! I was outside at 1am but we were fogged in, no eclipse for me. It was very peaceful and still though.
I hope that you get to see that solar eclipse, too.
How lucky to be able to smell that and sit in such a lovely environment! That experience more than makes up for missing the eclipse and A la Nuit is beautiful- really the closest thing to sitting in a garden at night surrounded by blooming jasmine. If I could find one of the old cute SL bottles I may buy one.
Boy, these kids had SO much fun doing a comedic play, it was a serious joy to watch. I was a bit nervous because I have not been indoors with such a large group of people for such a long period of time since pre-covid, but I am really glad I went.
I love high school plays and musicals – how cool that your nephew was in one, Robin!
I’m still in Bois 1920 Sushi Imperiale and about to thunk my large sample. I’ve really enjoyed it this week. Starts off a bit “masculine” (no, I don’t believe fragrances are gendered, but this one has notes that, in the beginning, remind me of some aftershaves) and then gets softer and spicier and has this wonderful drydown that actually goes on quite a while. Not really cp-compliant AND I missed the eclipse, but that’s okay – the rain has stopped for a bit and I’m happy to see some blue sky today. Happy Fri-YAY!
You smell great ?
High school musicals are the best.
Not participating in the CP today. Had an early morning haircut so just grabbed. My grabbing resulted in Armani Si.
Question for Robin-When is the next swap date? I have a few bottles I would love to unload that I know people would like to add to their collections.
Have a good weekend everyone!
Kris, in the spring, vaguely…not scheduled yet.
Alas, I missed the peak of the eclipse but did see the Moon with a grey shadow around 5:15am EST, and then saw a beautiful full moonset around 7:00. I chose Avon’s Timeless for my moon-viewing because it is a fine cold-weather scent, and when I stare at our Moon I feel the timelessness of such beauty. Yay for those who planned better and saw the red shading. I have so enjoyed all the Moon pictures this week, too: thanks Robin. 🙂 SotD TBD but I may continue with Timeless and just stay in my house clothes due to some overdue cleaning. (If I get dressed, I surely will continue with Timeless because that’s what I wore to my eye appointment yesterday and those clothes will be “Timeless” until laundry day!)
Is your Timeless a new bottle, or one of the older ones? I remember my Mom wearing that back in the day every so often. For her, perfume was for Special Occasions.
I got the bottle in 2014, soon after I fell down the rabbit hole. It was used and I seem to recall it is an early 2000’s date. I also have some ’80’s and possibly “70’s 15mls bottles. But Timeless has not suffered from reformulations too much, so if you have any version IMHO you will smell wonderful. 🙂 Timeless is special!
Good to know this!
CP compliant in Moonlight in Chiang Mai. I did not see the moon at all last night–I decided that I needed sleep and the moon was a grown being and could handle an eclipse on their own. 🙂
Excellent.
Hermessence Cedre Sambac
Wearing Rose de Petra, which is CP adjacent because I remember seeing a lovely photo of the Petra stone carvings in a moonlit scene…so whenever I apply this scent, I have a flash of that visual memory, the moon, the rocks, the incense and roses all to together for me…
That sounds so beautiful.
I saw the eclipse clearly from the bedroom window. It would have been much more dramatic in a darker area, but still such a remarkable sight. This specific micro-moon eclipse hadn’t been visible fron New Zealand for 800 years. I was wearing a dab of Bengale Rouge, I could’t see an obvious moon connection, but a quick google tells me that the Egyptian goddess Bastet was goddess of cats and the moon.
Bengale Rouge has been on and off my buy list many times. It’s lovely, but it’s also very powerful, I would never need much.
Today we are heading off for the weekend to visit my beloved’s mother. This is the trip we couldn’t do two weeks ago when we couldn’t get the car out of the garage. This weekend will be much better weather, so all good really. I’ll wear Neroli Outrenoir for the drive.
Have a good weekend. Glad you saw the eclipse.
Enjoy your time away.
I was thinking of you and Kanuka when I saw the eclipsed moon this morning.
Sotd is a dupe of FM The Moon (Qamaar) – opens with raspberry, litchi and saffron, then rose and violet, finishing on an oud, amber, patchouli base.
I’m a Julien Rasquinet fan and yes, “I want The Moon” ($$$!) but am content with a facsimile and CP points!
I did go out last night and saw the moon glowing through the clouds at the beginning of the eclipse.
I am wearing Womanity, in reference to the old wive’s tale about women’s cycles being controlled by the moon.
I like your interpretation!
No eclipse here, fogged in. I am smpling today, but will spray some Nuit Étoilée later.
I’m claiming lots of points for my SOTD choice for today’s community project: Ghost Deep Night. Its dark purplish/black crescent moon-shaped bottle mirrors the tiny sliver of moon visible during the peak eclipse time, and its Belle de Nuit blossoms that scent the night but close before dawn along with its soft, sensual, mysterious scent, all reflect this hauntingly beautiful event.
I awoke at 2:53 a.m. (is that ‘deep night’ or ‘early morning’?) to join Mr. Laila outside, who had already set up our telescope and a couple of chairs. The clouds that had been present all day had dispersed, and the blustery winds had disappeared. The night was crisp and still and clear, and the moon with its deep reddish hue was perfectly framed between a couple of tall pines and hardwood trees that had already lost their leaves. We stayed there mesmerized for fully half an hour by the peace and beauty of it all. And although it was the middle of the night, before I went outside I put on one tiny spritz of Deep Night, for a scent memory that will last each time I wear it!
Wishing everyone at least a glimpse of that peace and beauty this weekend, and for those of us here in the U.S. getting ready for Thanksgiving, gratitude for all that we have . . . and gratitude for all that we’ve escaped.
So nice! Thanks for the lovely description. 🙂
Oh! Lucky you, having a telescope to skywatch last night!
How beautifully you have written about this! Thank you!
I think you get all the points.
No CP for me but I have enjoyed reading all the clever connections people have found today. Moon perfume names are beautiful in French. I’m wearing Nicolai Patchouli Intense which I love, does anyone else smell an old-fashioned cold cream note hidden in the Patchouli? Just lovely.
That one smells like Patchouli soda to me, in a good way.
I would totally try Patchouli-flavored soda, if anyone made it.
We can do this! All we need is a healthy patchouli plant. I make basil soda all the time with my soda stream.
You have a third interested party ?
I’ll join you!
Wearing the final sprays of my sample of Both Sides of Clouds. Alas, no eclipse to see here either as we had snow clouds all day and night. Claiming partial points for the cloud aspect.
I read your comment too fast and thought the name was Both Sides of Cloud Atlas 🙂 That one has been on my to-read list for a while, maybe my brain is telling me it is time.
SOTD for CP points is Nina Ricci’s Luna. It’s very pleasant, though more gourmand than I usually choose, and it is THE cutest mini bottle!
How are you feeling today?
Was going to wear Sinan with its cute crescent moon cap for the CP, but couldn’t find my mini, so I went with two new to me LAPs – Timbktu and Mandarina Corsica.
Timbuktu does not work for me. There is a familiar but off-putting note that I cannot place and it is all I can smell. Not sure if it is the karo (which is apparently also in CdG Segoia – another scent that did not work for me at all), or the papyrus, or some combination of notes. It has a rubbery-medical smell, kind of but not exactly like calamine lotion. I don’t get any mango.
MC, however, works for me just fine. Syrupy orange and caramel. Started too sweet, but has toned down after a few hours and I really like the dry down. Reminds me of Candy, but the orange note makes it more interesting to me. I would be very happy wearing this as a sweet holiday time scent.
I’m on a chai kick this week. Got my COVID 19 booster shot and my flu late last night at a 24/7 CVS and was hoping that I could make through the workday before the sluggishness I felt last time came over me, but no such luck. I’m looking forward to an early bedtime tonight.
Rest and take care, hope you feel better soon. I got both together, too; it wasn’t too bad.
Right there with you on the post-booster sluggishness! I can’t *wait* for bedtime…
Thankfully I don’t get anything rubbery or medicinal with Timbuktu. Do you have any idea how old your bottle/sample is?
Congrats on getting your booster!
Rubbery medical smell sounds like what iso e super does for me. I got my iso e super education with the Ormonde Jane sample set- all of it smelled like rubbing alcohol to me (a bit of a curse as it’s quite popular). Since then I learned that a percentage of people have that experience too- plus induces anosmia to other perfume components. Could it be that you are also sensitive? This is often a component of incenses and I know Duchaufour and a Ellena like using it.
“Yestreen I saw the new moone,
Wi’ the auld moone in her arme….”
Turns out I was wrong about not seeing last night’s lunar eclipse. I wouldn’t have bet on it, since it was windy and raining by 9pm. And I fully expected to be sound asleep at the height of the eclipse. Mr. Jalapeno’s snoring took care of that!
So since I was already awake at an ungodly early hour, I decided to take a peek outside and see what I could see. The clouds and rain were long gone. It took a bit of sky searching, but there was a brick red moon off to the West, with a silver collar on one side.
SOTD = Hugo Boss Deep Red EdP. Yeah, it’s obvious, but I like how I smell today!
Ooo, nice one. Glad you saw it. Deep Red is an old love of mine.
Thank you springpansy!
I like how you smell today, too; Deep Red is a fall favorite of mine. Works for today’s cp, too! Glad you had a chance to see the eclipse; sounds like your weather changed for the better just like mine.
Thanks Laila! Yes, my weather did improve a LOT for eclipse viewing. But then it got less pleasant after the sun came up.
Oh, I love that you saw the eclipse! Great pairing with Deep Red.
Thank you Gail! I now have both lunar and solar eclipses under my skywatching belt. I would like to see another comet sometime soon. ??
So glad you caught the best part!
Thanks MossyBerry! It was a pleasant surprise for me, too!
Nice! I was sound asleep!
At least I made good use of my interrupted sleep last night! Usually I stay in bed and fume at my inability to go back to sleep, which isn’t the best thing.
I went literal and chose a perfume with moon in the name. I ended up in Providence Perfume Company Drunk on the Moon, which I like but don’t love. I’m happy to have received a little freebie decant in a swap so I could try it out.
My boyfriend flies home tonight from his work trip. It’s been an ok week here without him, but I’m really excited to get him back.
Other good things today are the plethora of packages that arrived: my order of Jeni’s ice cream, a wine and snacks gift basket from the boyfriend’s dad, and Harry and David gift basket from my work for a project completion. Should make for a fun weekend!
Yum! ? Enjoy!
It’s a great perfume name; too bad it’s not a love. But between the Jeni’s ice cream delivery and the upcoming boyfriend return it sounds like you have an excellent weekend ahead!
I think so too!
An ice cream delivery?? That sounds freaking amazing!
Yes, treat yourself sometime! They were running a free shipping special and they’ve just released Pistachio Macaron as a limited flavor so I couldn’t resist.
Ooooh, let us know what THAT one is like!
I was all ready to do the CP in Hanae More Magical Moon, in the beautifully etched cobalt bottle, but the darn sprayer on it was broken and I couldn’t manage to eke out a drop! Very frustrating. I will have to fiddle with it to see if I can manage something to get it to work.
Instead I went with another of the new samples I just got in my order of bestsellers from Twisted Lily: today was ELDO You or Someone Like You. It’s pleasant but not earth-shaking.
I like YoSLY much better in hot weather than in cold.
Nouez Moi for me today. My sign is cancer and my planet is moon. I love pearls. All my life I think of myself as a “moon person” and let me tell You Nouez Moi smells like… it fits the moon theme perfectly!!
