It's Dealer's Choice Friday, edition 5! Our community project for today: propose a theme for a Friday community project, and wear a fragrance that fits your theme.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I am commando, and feeling pretty crap after getting a booster yesterday evening. I am sitting this one out, and will probably sit out the rest of the day as well. I am sure I will back tomorrow for a weekend poll.
Reminder: Early on 11/19 (some of us will be sleeping) we'll see a Partial Lunar Eclipse of the Micro Beaver Moon. Wear what you think fits.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m sorry Robin, after shot side effects are no fun! I’m wearing Tam Dao which has become my “get stuff done” perfume, so I guess my proposal would be what is your get stuff done/feel competent perfume?
Sorry you’re feeling bad Robin, hope tomorrow is better. I’m wearing Stardust by Annette Neuffer.
I want to thank you for the topic you raised this week, and thanks to everyone for the wisdom and generosity in their replies. Sending hugs your way, and hopes for peace and ease.
Thank you!
Feel better soon, Robin! I am scheduled for my Moderna booster on Black Friday and I am sure I will have to sit out that weekend. I will survive! ?
Wearing CdG Jaisalmer for some comfort. It’s going to be a long working day, so looking for the weekend anxiously.
On my second cup of coffee sweeten with two big caramel apple candy corns. I ran out of honey and I am determined to have a good use of those candies, instead of throwing them out, since I don’t like to eat them. I am not so happy with my youngest sister dropping them on the kitchen when I was not home. She quietly did it! ??.
Happy Friday, everyone!
We have an unopened bag of Halloween candy that we are hoping to give to Mr. Jalapeno’s nephews at Thanksgiving. Don’t want it here!
I really dislike candy corn and nobody around me likes them either! ?. Glad you can pass your unwanted bag Mr. Jalapeno’s nephews!
Hopefully the nephews aren’t on a health food kick! If so, we will have to figure something else out.
I think many perfume fanatics treasure the interesting and the strange, in part because when you’ve smelled a hundred aquatic scents you’re desperate for anything unusual, and so we gravitate towards the offbeat — stinky civet, indolic jasmine, urinous honey, pungent oudh, weird black rubber. But sometimes when you’re out in public, you have to bow to convention and wear something that is unlikely to elicit any crinkled noses or negative comments.
So my theme is Play Nice: wear a fragrance which, while it still bears the stamp of the perfumer’s art, is more or less guaranteed to offend no-one. I have a half dozen or so that fit the bill, but today I’m in Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille: a bit of licorice, a bit of coconut, a bit of beeswax wrapped up in plush, comforting vanilla. It has just enough edge to not be boring, but it is so pleasant.
I adore Un Bois Vanille – smells like caramel/vanilla pudding on me. I adore the stuff.
Very good choice of theme/perfume.
Pyramus and Smokeytoes, thank u for reaffirming one of the best vanillas out there, Un Bois Vanille!!
SOTD is Bois D’Armenie…applied directly to the face, in my infinite genius, while wrestling with a sprayer that got stuck. I guess the theme here is New and Shiny, since I got this in the swapmeet.
Hope you feel better soon Robin!
I hope you didn’t get sprayed in the eye! I bet your face snells great.
Sort of cutting out the middle man there: forget the wrist and aim for the nose
🙂
I had a wayward spray sample get a little too close to my face recently. You are not alone!
I’m wearing THoO The Time today. This is from a sample and it is my second time to wear this. The last time was sometime last year. So my CP would be to try untried samples, or retry samples you haven’t tried recently.
I was too overwhelmed this morning, and couldn’t think of a good theme. However, I’m happy to note that what I’m wearing fits handily into all the themes proposed so far: play nice, wear a sample, wear something new and shiny–Balenciaga Paris from the splitmeet. Totally work appropriate, I used to have a sample, used it up, and am now re-wearing, and I just got this decant!
Maybe as an alternative to Play Nice, we could have a You Wore WHAT in Public theme–wear one of those unwearables.
Oh I like that! Even better if you have a story about how someone reacted to it.
P.S. Sorry you are not feeling well, Robin. I hope you feel better soon. Boosters are no joke.
Now I’m slightly nervous because my husband and I are going to get out boosters in a few hours, and we had no problems with the first two shots but I have heard stories, online and from co-workers, about being brought low for a few days by the booster. At least we have the weekend to recuperate if it does hit us hard.
If it makes you feel better, my first and second shots knocked me out (literally – I slept a ton) but my booster didn’t give me any side effects aside from a slightly sore arm.

Sampling Don’t Explain from DSH for Begins with D (perfume name edition). It is a lovely gardenia that is going on my wish list. Yesterday for Begins with C was Cacao Porcelana to go with the brownies I made
Perfume food matching would be cool
Aha! I see what you’re doing with the alphabet there! I tried to do a numbers month but only really have a few Chanels to work with, plus I forgot that there are only 30 days in this month so 31rdC is no good to me ? I will try for an alphabet month another time, thank you!
TGIF!
Hope you feel better Robin.
My theme today is Layer, Layer and Layer.
I had on No. 5 body gel then parfum then edp and finished off with edt.
I smell too good if that’s a thing ? but I love it haha.
Currently drinking my second mug of lavender earl grey.
I never thought I could like No. 5, but the body oil has converted me.
Mine is long gone, but I did love it!
You must smell glorious.
I went to the No 5 installation at Rockefeller
So much fun!
Oh am so glad you could see it, and that it was good fun!
Today is a testing day. I am testing Clinique Hint of Citrus. Years ago, it was a flanker of Happy that was discontinued years ago. But they brought it back and it’s only in a mini set that Ulta sells. It’s pleasant enough but a flanker that doesn’t quite smell like a flanker.
My theme for today is “gone but not forgotten” – wear a perfume from the brand that either stopped working or wear a perfume that was discontinued in recent years but is still quite available at discounter sites. Extra credit if you own a bottle.
That way I’m wearing Ann Gerard Rose Cut of which I found a travel spray when doing some dusting off on my perfume shelf.
Nice idea for the Cp!
Thanks
My CP would be “wear a perfume that reminds you of someone on NST”.
So today I’m wearing Fidji, which reminds me of Aurora. This and Eau de Rochas.
I could do a whole week:
AP for Jalapeno and Tannina. Theo Fennell for Tannina.
Shaal Nur for Robin.
Eau de Merveilles for Tiffany.
Galliano for Glannys. Where is Glannys, BTW?
Mirroir de Majestes TM for lilyjo. Hope your brother’s wife is doing better!
You could keep going!
Chanel No. 19 for hajusuuri
Shalimar for Lovestosmellgood
Good ones. And CSP for pyramus, Santal 33 for Oakland Fresca, FdD for Deva…
Winter Palace for lucasai!
Chinatown for majokkobiachan
Honored to make your list!
My brother says she feels slightly better today.
Pleased and flattered that I made your list!
Oh, Amyitis, so kind to include me on your list and remember my preferences so well, I think it’s an excellent CP.
Happy FriYaY! My SOTD is RL’s Safari, loads of galbanum (this week’s theme is galbanum) with an ambery dry down. Perfect for this time of year and hits the spot. My dentist loved the Bandit, it was great catching up with him. I’ve been a patient of his for 21 years, right after he graduated from dental school. It’s nice to have such a long-standing relationship, we both knew each other from our ‘single n’ loving it’ days. So while it’s the dentist, there were giggles.
I worked out very hard at the gym before the dentist, I opted not to do the 22 flights. 🙂
I’m sorry Robin you’re not feeling well. Post-vaccine symptoms aren’t fun. I hope you get the chance to rest and nap today!
Getting my packages ready for holiday shipping, SmokeyToes has declared possession of the latest box, and he’s determined to fit in it.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CV_qrOUvepN/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
That is one adorable cat!
Thanks! He’s 13, and finally settling down. 🙂 He’s a quirky and cranky little guy but we adore him..
So cute! If I sits, I fits. 🙂
HA! So true! And like his mommy, he loves his carbs…
You smell good!
♥ SmokeyToes!
Your cat made my day!
SmokeyToes is beautiful!
Thank you! We had two Maine Coon boys, here’s Gino (now passed over the rainbow bridge). Very quirky, fluffy boyz.
https://www.instagram.com/p/B1xMtTUh6-g/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
Gino was majestic!
Oh, he is a beauty!
Kitty witty!
This reminds me of a YouTube series called Simon’s cat, where they have a few different episodes dealing with boxes.
https://youtu.be/tNhFAiFzgl8
I love Simon’s Cat! Hilarious! Have you seen the Youtube Henri the cat?
https://youtu.be/Q8jJuTYfa_E
What a wonderfully floofy kitty! ?
It was difficult to keep up with all the brushing and nail clipping, but well-worth it.
This is Rocky, another floof ball..

Happy Friday! Robin, I hope you feel better soon. I will be in solidarity shortly when I get my booster at noon today.
I’m so impressed by everyone’s cp themes and creative ways to think about experiencing our fragrance collections.
Wearing Frapin Paradis Perdu and really enjoying its complexity. The name also lends itself to a cp theme. Choose a fragrance that you have but that has been “lost” to you, perhaps in the back of the cupboard or drawer. You can’t remember when you last wore it and possibly don’t even remember that you had it. How is it wearing now?
Nice one (both perfume and cp theme). I need to dig around and see what I’ve forgotten about.
I followed your theme today before I even knew it!
I found pomegranate noir in my car glovebox the other day. No idea how it got there ( except that I put it there, obviously)
Oh gosh, that would be a great CP! I’m still finding stashed bottles from when we moved back in February. 😯
PdN Kiss Me Intense after a long shower. CP theme for that would be On Second Thought…wear a note or scent that you disliked or were indifferent to at first but changed your mind. We’ve likely done this before. Vanilla is my second thought note here. If I was going to wear a scent it wiuld likely be Narciso white cube, which I didn’t like until about a year after its release.
Take it easy Robin. It’ll pass, and it’s a nice reason to lay low.
Cool idea LizzieB
Feel better soon, Robin! I had a booster last week and felt pretty crummy, but I promise it will pass, even if it doesn’t feel like it!
Blanking on a good idea for a CP. My fragrance of the day is L’Artisan Tea for Two as it just seemed to fit with the chilly, windy day we’re having.
Unrelated: I’m pretty new to Santa Fe, NM and was wondering if someone more knowledgeable has any info on good perfume shops in the area (or ABQ). I haven’t had a chance to get around much, and it’s such a quirky town that I imagine there has to be somewhere besides Ulta and the sparse selection at Target!
March from perfumeposse recently moved to Santa Fe. I’m sure if you leave a comment on there you’ll get some good pointers. Unless you ARE March, of course!
Oops – ha – great minds!
I am not March! I’ll take a look over there, thank you!
You need to connect with March who writes on PerfumePosse! She knows Santa Fe and just moved back there recently. She usually blogs every other Tuesday on perfumeposse.com and is an excellent writer as well.
Good to know! I’ll check out her Tuesday posts.
My theme for the day is The Other Half. Wear a perfume that is issued in both masculine and feminine form, and wear the one opposite from your usual. I’m wearing Amouage Gold Man, from a sample.
Gold Man is a good one. I find it more wearable than the women’s version.
Well, I’m going to ride on your coattails for this one, with By Kilian Gold Knight.
Great idea! Amouage Gold Man is wonderful.
Do feel better, Robin! No boosters available here, at least for the general population. But I had my flu shot yesterday, so I’m in partial solidarity (same side effects as I had from the COVID shot, just a sore shoulder & swollen lymph node).
My theme today, I guess, is “People are Strange” (preferably the Echo & the Bunnymen version): Wear what you consider to be your strangest perfume. For me it was an excuse to pull out Feu d’Issey, which I never wear for fear of it running out. Though…this doesn’t seem so strange to me anymore. 🙂
Up late and off to a day of work in a house where the others aren’t working.
I can’t hear that song without wanting to re-watch The Lost Boys.
One of my all time favorite movies!
Yes! Didn’t know if anyone would remember that movie / connection!
Me too!!
One thing about living in Santa Carla I could never stomach … all the damn vampires.
?
How lucky you are to have some wearable Feu d’Issey! I have a few millilitres sloshing around in the bottom of that magical bottle, but unfortunately it had gone hideously wrong the last time I tried it, several years ago, and I don’t dare spray it ever again. Enjoy it while you can!
I wish I had the bottle, but alas, I was too late to that party. I bought a large sample years ago from TPC, and so far it has held up.
I have a sneaky suspicion that my theme has actually been done before. I’m calling it, “It must be after 5 PM somewhere,” and am in a generous lashing of Angels’ Share.
Love it! That’s a boozy one?
It is. Well, it is supposed to be. The ‘angels’ share” being the whisky lost to evaporation once poured. My booziest perfume is actually BDK’s Wood Jasmin. I worry that if I got pulled over wearing it, I’d be asked to walk a straight line. 😉
I once tried Kiste by Slumberhouse and my husband asked me to wash it off because it “smelled like I had bourbon coming out of my pores after a hard night”.
My SOTD is Oliver Peoples by Byredo. My theme is “Don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone” – perfumes you delayed buying a bottle until they were announced as discontinued (similar to lucasai’s theme). Smelling great, and about to go out to look for a winter coat. (Raleigh winter, so more like a heavy fall coat for most of the world.).
Robin, I hope you feel better soon!
Perfect and you know which one I’d choose for that CP (PG BB, of course!) Thanks again for sharing yours.
Yeah, that’s a great theme.
I understand that theme. Try a sample of something that is readily available, dither about it for a while, decide I really want an FB, and it’s gone! There’s a lot of those in my decade or so of perfumania 🙂
Wow, Raleigh NC? One of my friends moved there for a few years while she lived in America, she absolutely loved it. Hope you had a successful shopping trip!
Robin, wishing you a speedy recovery and a restful weekend!
My CP is to wear a scent that a fellow NSTer has worn recently, and I have done that 3 times this week. I’m heading out for a morning walk, and when I get back, I will join Dorsey in Bois d’Armenie.
Spray it on the wrist and not the face!
My theme for today is Simplicity, and I chose Le Galion Iris. It’s a lovely iris and almost nothing else, and its ribbed-glass bottle is pure streamlined elegance. Even the bottle cap fits the theme — heavy, shiny, unadorned black bakelite.
Le Galion is such a classy outfit.
Theme: In Front of My Nose: right in the very front row of my Office perfume tray is Baikal Leather Intense.
I bought it at a local store during the worst of the lockdown and one of the owners dropped it off right at my door. I went through enough of the first bottle quickly enough that I bought a back up. This is a perfect autumn scent, but have I been wearing it this autumn? No. Have corrected that.
My humble suggestions for future community projects, I apologize if some of these are repeats:
1) perfume misnomers (name does not match theme/notes)
2) the discontinueds (as suggested by others in this thread)
3) random less common or seasonal notes (guava or other tropical fruit, fir/pine, alcoholic beverages, nuts, etc.)
4) a fragrance that makes you feel optimistic
5) a fragrance inspired by holiday activities (gift wrapping, parties, concerts, etc.)
The misnomer idea has got me racking my brains, thank you!
Sorry you’re feeling bad Robin! Hopefully not as bad as initial vaccines?
I’m in the last vestiges of CSP Café Vanille from last night before bed. Will probably switch in up later. Currently brewing strong coffee and doing laundry. The good thing about this laundromat is that they have a water station so I can fill up on water and not have to make an extra stop.
I had a dream last night that I was running out of gas and desperately trying to make it to a gas station. I think it might be a metaphor for my work life right now…?
Oh, my suggestion for future CP is:
Go Anywhere, Do Anything Perfumes.
These are perfumes that go from the graveyard to New Year’s Eve Celebrations to home with books and tea/coffee to work. Any work horse fragrance that has chameleon like properties that you can wear for any and all occasions.
Like it. I watched the movie Casino the other night and thought of you camped out in the Vegas/ Nevada desert, surrounded by holes. Glad you’re planning on a hotel.
Surrounded by holes..? You mean old defunct mining shafts? They certainly are around, but I guess if I watch where I walk I’ll be ok. Of course, they ARE great body dump locations.? I never saw Casino, but I’m imaging they probably dumped a body or two in a mine shaft in that movie..
Definitely holes dug by gangsters to bury their executed victims… Joe Pesci is frightening.
I have seen Casino a million times. The end seen in the desert just once. After the first time, I now close my eyes and plug my ears.
Hmmm, I’ve maybe camped near a hole hiding a body in the past? I do like the desert in winter and hope to get back there in January. Will have to keep my eyes peeled for freshly turned earth…?
Wow, is it that good? But too violent? I’ve just read Sharon Stone’s new memoir and it made me realise I have never seen any of her films except Total Recall, and I found the memoir an interesting read (I love seeing how people represent themselves and tell their own stories-I also read way too many scurrilous biographies at one stage so it’s memoir all the way now). I’d like to watch some of her films as a response, but apart from the appeal of Young Di Caprio in The Quick and the Dead I kinda can’t see it happening…
This would be Chanel No.19 EDP for moi!
Good one!
Moi aussi!
I think it’s a nightmare with gas prices right now!
That’s a true fact!
I hope you perk up soon, Robin.
Dealer’s Choice: Duets
Lakme’s flower duet, Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood singing Jackson, Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett crooning softly in your ear, Billy Idol and Miley Cyrus belting out Rebel Yell.
Two perfumes, one on each wrist possibly made for each other, playing nicely, bringing out something special in each other, or maybe competing for the spotlight?
Ambre des Merveilles ( left) and Fleurs des Orange (right). Can’t spell ‘em but can smell ‘em!
Returning to our poetry discussion, I was just leafing through last year’s journal and found a poem by Nyoshul Khen that brought me to tears:
Rest in natural great peace
This exhausted mind
Beaten helpless by karma and neurotic thoughts
Like the relentless fury of the pounding waves
In the infinite ocean of samsara
Rest in natural great peace
Rest in natural great peace!
Elina Garanca (left) and Anna Netrebko (right). Your perfumes.
Just listened to two arias. Thank you!
I have to go look up the Billy Idol duet now.

It’s my birthday today, so my CP suggestion is: birthday perfume! Wear something that makes you happy, or that was a birthday gift (including from yourself), or that makes you think of cake ? or champagne ?. I’ll be wearing Creed Fleur de Thé Rose Bulgare, quite possibly my most expensive bottle but that I got for a steal from a store that was closing. It’s so pretty, I wear it only on special occasions.
I’ll be having lunch with a friend this afternoon, and thinking about how I want to spend my birthday money!
I hope you feel better soon, Robin! Happy belated birthday to you too!
Happy birthday, socks! Have a wonderful celebration!
Happy Birthday, socks!
Happy Birthday
Happy Birthday to you! ?
Happy birthday, Socks, from one Scorpio (and Chicago-area resident!) to another! ?
Have a wonderful day and weekend and a joyful year ahead.
Happy Birthday socks!? Enjoy your birthday lunch.
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday!
Have a great birthday and a happy and healthy year!
Happy Birthday, Socks ?
Happy Birthday to you!
Enjoy your smelling-good birthday!
Happy birthday!?????
Happy Scented Birthday socks! ????
Thanks everyone!! You’re all so sweet. I had a lovely lunch and am now settling in for some lounging on the couch before I have to go back to work tomorrow.
Wearing Black Orchid today. This one’s a real diva and I’m always glad to bring it out when cool weather comes in. Piles of spice and florals, a rich dark purple if it was a color.
You smell fantastic!
Need to find my sample of that.
Feel better soon Robin. I felt like crap too and didn’t from the first two doses, but it does pass. I felt fine by the following day.
For the CP my theme would be “Remind me Again.” Wear a fragrance that reminds you of something else you have owned. I am wearing Gucci Bloom that reminds me of the original Michael by Michaell Kors.
I am wearing Essence Ambre by Ellie Saab. I don’t like amber perfumes a lot, so my dealer choice would be Wear a perfume, thats main notes you don’t like, but wear nonetheless.
For the CP “The last decant your bought”
Xerjoff
Ouverture
From the website:
Noble cinnamon and delicious citrus foster floral a sonata of ylang ylang, seductive jasmine and mystical rose. A prominent touch of woody amber notes plus fuliginous incense and captivating vanilla herald a lush, luxurious and sweet oriental heart
“seductive” jasmine. Is there any other kind??
Agreed?
Ohhh, jasmine, rose, amber, and incense? Wow, you smell marvelous!
Friday!
1) Had my booster shot & flu shot on Wednesday, and basically slept all day yesterday. The fatigue and arm soreness is REAL. But am feeling energetic and fresh today. A good Pilates routine is on deck!
2) Am in Philosophy Fresh Cream Soft Suede- cozy yet light and pretty leather-ish scent. It’s really too bad this was discontinued.
3) It is raining cats, dogs, mice, and chickens this past week! And because the temps are relatively mild, the roses are still blooming away!
I’m pretty stunned by the temps! Mid November and temps will be mid 60’s today in southern Oregon. So very strange…
Yes- almost spring like in temps for this time of the year!
You do smell good. That’s a nice one.
Sorry you are feeling crappy Robin. Hope you feel better tomorrow!
Friday, FriYAY! This is the last Friday I will be working for the foreseeable future. Woo hoo!?
I’m in Milk Musk edt again. I resisted a bottle of this one even after a naughty enabler? here said that Molton was having a 20% sale. There’ll be more sales, the holidays are coming.
Looking forward to streaming the new Bond movie this weekend. I see it’s available on both appletv and prime.
Happy weekending!?
There’s always another sale!
Wow, happy last working Friday!
Definitely a FriYAY for you! Whoo hoo!
Good on you, Robin, for the booster. Feel better soon and know that you are better protected. ?
I absolutely ❤️ the challenge of the Friday community projects and ? you, Robin, for continuing them. Here are a few suggestions, off the top of my head:
– What’s your favorite color? Wear that color in a fragrance.
– Name a favorite perfumer and wear one of his/her creations.
– Wear a fragrance that paints a picture for you and describe that ‘painting.’
And because our gorgeous fall weather appears to be leaving us this weekend, these two come to mind:
– Wear a ‘golden’ fragrance.
– Wear a fragrance with a pomegranate note.
I’m opting for the last one today because I stumbled upon it recently in the back of my closet and realized I hadn’t worn it in a long while: BBW’s Midnight Pomegranate edt. Its mélange of notes – fragrantica lists 16 in all – culminate in a wonderful fruity, spicy, and woody scent perfect for a day that’s turned cold and dark here; it’s snowing outside my window right now! Brrr!
No special plans for the weekend ahead; it sounds like a good one to tuck in and enjoy home comforts. Wishing everyone a nice one ahead!
Excellent suggestions!
What a fun list!
Rubbish weather here on Saturday morning, after a week of nice weather when I was at work – grrr!
I’m going to a fundraising fabric sale this morning, and I’m always on ths lookout for vintage things, so I’m going to wear Mitsouko in anticipation of what I might find.
You all are so creative 🙂 My theme this week, if I can be said to have one, is ‘whatever I feel like today’. Which is Penhaligon’s Elixir… cinnamon incense. I could do with some incense serenity after beating my head against website problem / useless on-line chat / 3 different phone calls AAAAAARGH.
We’re on day 3 of road closure here. One more day of this, tomorrow, then we’re back to normal. Good thing I like being a hermit.
Robin, hope you feel better soon. My state just announced that all adults can get the booster whenever they want, so I will be investigating getting an appointment ASAP. It’ll be great to have my immune system ‘tuned up’ before the holiday get-togethers.
I’m doing two projects today.
1. Use it up already! Thunking my decant of TF Noir de Noir.
2. Song match. For Tom Ford. I think of this song whenever I hear his sultry voice, see his handsome face or smell one of his sometimes great perfumes.
https://youtu.be/bpNw7jYkbVc
Lol!
In other news, I bought my Thanksgiving turkey today. You can place your bets now on if I will have it thawed in time this year?
Thanks for the well wishes for my brother and family yesterday. He says they are hanging in there. Robin, I hope you feel better soon!
Good luck with your turkey and hope the whole family is well enough to enjoy it. My mom used to put on a HUGE spread every holiday and I still don’t know how she did it. If the turkey’s not quite cooked, there’s plenty of other stuff to eat, right? ?
LOL! Love your sense of humor. Hoping everyone is well by Thanksgiving!
When I was a youngster (probably 8 years old) my aunt asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I said “Joan Jett”. She td me it was impossible to grow up to be another person.
Apparently I cried so hard that I threw up and got a bloody nose at the same time. I am still hearing about this decades later.
But I still want to grow up to be Joan Jett.
Hahaha, oh my gosh sistine, this is the best story I’ve heard in a long time.? I am literally lol-ing.
In all seriousness though, she does kick a@#.
Aww! Poor 8 year old you! Funny story ?
Turkey tip: if you are thawing in the fridge, take it out of the freezer at least 5 days in advance. And put a drip pan under the bird to keep any leakage contained.
That’s my plan this year. I bought it early this year because I am afraid all the small ones will be gone quickly.
My project is: If Anyone Can Make It Work For Me, They Can – wear a fragrance featuring a note you usually don’t like from a perfume house that you love. And to fit my theme, I am in PdN’s Violette in Love. I am not big on violet, especially violet+rose, but for almost every PdN the only question is, do I like this or do I love it?
The brand says that the fragrance is a fresh violet – a departure from the usual sweet and powdery approach to violets. I don’t know that it is truly “fresh.” To me that implies dewy or green and this is not either of those, but it is not at all powdery. At most it is velvety. I didn’t get much development – it is violet, violet, violet, with some iris. This is very pretty and it is the closet I have come to liking a violet, but not even PdN can make me truly like the note.
Drinking Chocolate Puer while researching complicated answers to simple questions for work.
Great CP idea. Love it.
I hope you feel better soon Robin. It is good weather for a cup of tea, a blanket, and a movie or two while you wait out the side effects.
Robin, the booster hit me hard, too. Hope you feel better soon (I needed six hours to get through the side effects and another 24 to get over the sleep I’d lost because of the side effects).
I am enjoying this CO and everyone’s suggestions very much! I hope we get to do some of them. My suggestion: Troikas and Tovarishchi. Since we had both Turgenev’s and Dostoevsky’s birthdays this week, the CP would be to wear something that fits a Russian writer, past or present, OR a character from Russian literature. My choice today is 31RC (I couldn’t wear Bandit, after all, because I had close-quarters meetings). I think Anna Karenina would wear this — or No. 5. Definitely Chanel, in any case.
PS — I’d extend “Russian” to any writer who culturally, linguistically, or ethnically identifies as Russian.
Love this idea
Oh have you read that new perfume book, the Scent of Empires? That connects Russia with Chanel via Ernest Beaux so this is an intriguing idea…
Oh oh I had to come back to add this-in Elif Batuman’s The Idiot, the narrator’s magnificent best friend has a Paris-based aunt, who takes the girl in hand and gives her a proper perfume, which turns out to be Feminité du Bois, which in turn leads on to the immortal line “all is syphilis”. Another Russian-Paris perfume connection right there! The novel is a hoot by the way, especially if you remember the arrival of this new thing called the e mail…
Robin, I hope you feel much better and happy Belated Birthday!
Thanks so much for the kind words and your reassurance. It is probably just a rough case of the flu or something. I did get a good 9 hours of sleep and could go right back now like everyone else. ?
My beachy lotions for the warm weather smell off so no perfume.
CPs: (probably already mentioned)
1. Match a perfume to a favorite musician or band.
2. Perfumes that smell almost or exactly like other perfumes. Bonus points the more you can find. Negative points if you check Fragrantica.
3. Blind buys.
4. Mainstream perfume readily available that you love.
5. Repeat the CP you did a year ago (I bookmarked it!) naming a note and perfumes that feature that note predominantly.
Thank you, cazaubon, for being so brave this week. You might give me the courage to share something next week.?
Sending you hugs and courage!
So sorry you feel poorly! I’m supposed to get my booster next week, which I’m eager to do, but figuring out the timing around other obligations is tricky.
My Dealer’s Choice theme is Long Lost Loves! You can wear a beloved fragrance that has been discontinued, or a fragrance that reminds you of a beloved person, pet, possession or place. My Long Lost Love yesterday was Penhaligon’s Ostara. Today: Gucci Envy.
Love your idea! Lots of BUBs, ?.
You smell so beautiful. Gucci were fools to discontinue Envy. Great bottle too.
Weren’t they? Yes, it has a great bottle.
I may be able to help you out with more Ostara if you are in need. I have an unloved bottle. Reach out to me at g a i l s 7 1 8 6 in the land of geeeemail dawt calm.
Thanks! I do have a few BUBs, lol, but I hate the thought of any of it going unloved!
Let me know if you change your mind!
Belated thanks to your family members and loved ones for their military service.
Thank you! I’ll tell Mr. Herbaceous.
Robin, so sorry you’re experiencing ill effects from the booster, get well soon. We were booster twins.
For the CP I chose ‘scent Marie Antoinette’ and I’m wearing Bouquet du Trianon by Historiae.
Happen to be wearing Lolitaland tonight – and my CP would be to wear something that smells like HAPPINESS! I’m not sure if Lolitaland smells more like true joy or like a manic episode – but I’m not gonna spoil it by thinking too hard 😀
Lovely theme! Although Manic Episode is also interesting.
Well wishing you (and all other NST-ers) a happy weekend!
Good afternoon NST!
My theme for today’s CP is ‘Hajusuuri strikes again’. I’m wearing L’Artisan Parfumeur 25 Obscuratio. Love this stuff and had never heard of it until the splitmeet. Thanks H!
Feel better Robin!
I am also in deep love with 25 Obscuratio thanks to the split. It is No.1 now on my full bottle purchase list!
How’s the lasting power for you?
For me it’s only about 2-3 hours with 2-3 sprays. But I love it while it lasts.
I can easily smell it for about 4 hours, then it becomes a skin scent.
Woo hoo! I love it when splitees mention they love the perfume they got in a split!
❤️
Just received mine today, will be spritzing shortly!!
Hello everyone, enthralled by all the ideas here and want to reply enthusiastically to each suggestion! Had no ideas at all for this in the run-up to today, but now at the end of this rather odd/awful week, it’s just Love- for the perfume, one of its notes and how well it’s been done, the person or place it reminds you of, or the idea it represents to you. Sampled Chanel Gabrielle today-nicer than I remembered from when it first launched but still a little featureless for Chanel, I think-and now in a cloud of Dior Dolce Vita to remind me of people and places and times I miss and, yes, love.
Oh oh and I forgot-PSA for the UK Guerlain website, as of yesterday they had Shalimar MVP back in stock. I’ve been trying for 2 weeks to buy it but although the website listed it as being in stock, each time I tried the site crashed and eventually I rang them to find out what the problem was. I ordered it in such a rush yesterday I got my own address wrong so that had delayed its delivery ? but it’s on its way!
Yay!! Hope you have a restful weekend.
Thank you!
I hope you love MVP and happy you were able to snap up a bottle!
Your story about the Las Vegas sales assistant made me want to persist in my attempts! Somebody in France rang me back and gave me the date for the next online release date. Merci Guerlain!
Fantastic!
Robin, I hope you’re on your way to a quick recovery! I’ll mention again that my only side effect was a sore arm for a day and that was it. However way I “won” the side effect lottery, I don’t want to know I am not protected. I’ll keep thinking positive and continue with living life masked where I need to and where I feel I have more risks, washing my hands frequently (really same amount I did pre-COVID), waiting at least a day to open packages and mail, and calculating the risk profile of special activities and not feel bad for declining invitations.
SOTD = 4160Tuesdays Clouds Parfum
My theme is wear a perfume that reminds you of someone. I chose Clouds Parfum as I got it based on cazaubon’s intel! It is by far my favorite of the Clouds Series!

In other news, I fail to understand why people insist on walking on the wrong side of the sidewalk and/or walk 2,3 or 4 abreast as if they cannot break ranks. Maybe I’m just being cranky!
I wore Clouds edp yesterday! We smell fabulous.
I get cranky too about inconsiderate people who block any passageway – it’s a phenomenon I call « alone in the world » – people who are oblivious to the existence of others!
I sometimes wish I could be oblivious like that. Just going about my merry way … I don’t have it in me though.
We do don’t we?
Oblivious people, seriously. I don’t know what this “couple” was doing in the car right before, but they couldn’t get enough of each other as they moved to the stairs and stopped at the landing to continue talking. I had daggers coming out of my eyes (masked so they couldn’t see my snarling face) as I got closer to them and they scrambled away.
Sidewalks shouldn’t be a difficult thing for people to use correctly! smh
Some people just don’t care, sadly.
Ooh, you smell wonderful! I love Clouds. Thank you again for the package!!
Thank you. I hope you’re enjoying the package!
I am! I’m going to use it as the basis for a home-made Advent calendar — just plunge my hand in, pull out a couple of items, and drop them into a refillable Advent calendar without looking! Then I’ll have a lovely little surprise every day of December, thanks to you! I’ll probably blog about them, daily if I can, so stay tuned!
Song of the Day: https://youtu.be/lX8GG3dnsp8
Today’s theme is a pun based on that song. Today I am “Back in the Samples Again”. However one could play the title as is, and return to a fragrance type that you haven’t been in for a while. You would be “Back in the Saddle Again”.
SOTD = Jean Patou Chaldee, from the Sample Stash.
Lol! I love the pun!
Aerosmith always wins, right? ??
All of this! Thank you!
You’re welcome!
It’s punny ?
Puns are very much a Thing in my family. My Dad used to make horrible ones when my brother and I were kids. Now my brother and I do it all the time. Sometimes by accident, even.
Oh, I adore Chaldee — I have a bottle of the Collection Heritage version by Thomas Fontaine.
What made u go and get a booster shot?
Super late but my theme this week has been Within Thunking Distance, which is for decants that are almost gone. Today I thunked my older decant of Alahine. I also thunked a spray sample of Francesca Bianchi Tyger Tyger earlier this week. I could definitely go for more of that one. I really enjoy the peach and honey in it. And I’m loving my Alahine today and am happy to have another decant to replace this.
You smell simply divine!
Love that theme!
I love all the creative themes in everyone’s comments! Here are some more ideas:
1. Favorite song by decade (1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, etc.) with a fragrance to match in whatever way you choose.
2. Favorite plant or flower, with fragrance to match (whether or not the plant is listed as a note).
3. What my Mama told me — any fragrance that reflects good or bad advice your mama gave you, or reminds you of a song with those words
4. Favorite Beatles song, with fragrance to match or one that reminds you of the song
5. Favorite poem — provide excerpt, text, or a link to it, with fragrance that evokes it
