It's Friday and National Cat Day. Plus, we're right in the heart of Pumpkin Spice season. Our community project for today: wear a fragrance featuring any or all of the elements (cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, clove, allspice, & etc).
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
My Pumpkin Spice week, day 5: allspice, nutmeg and clove, in Comptoir Sud Pacifique L'Eau du Gouverneur.
Reminder: on 11/5, for SWINTON’s birthday, wear Like This, or any other Etat Libre d'Orange fragrance, if you have one. If you don't, or if you're not in the mood for Etat Libre d'Orange (or if you just wore Like This for the Pumpkin Spice project), do something else. You could listen to Tilda Swinton read the Rumi poem that inspired the fragrance, and choose something based on that?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Repost from my twitter feed:
Lavender chamomile aromatherapy room spray from the Better Homes and Gardens brand sold by Walmart has been recalled…”3,900 bottles of scented room spray recalled over rare bacterial infections” (npr)
https://www.npr.org/2021/10/28/1050177248/3-900-bottles-of-scented-room-spray-recalled-over-rare-bacterial-infections
Yikes, I’d heard about the recall. Thanks for the heads up!
As a big fan of lavender pillow/linen sprays – Yikes!!!
Scary stuff eh?
?
I’m back in JM Myrrh and Tonka and still no regrets about buying a bottle. Even got a perfume compliment!
I didn’t realize it was quite that noticeable (I will admit I hajusuuried it though..?) but she assured me she was just getting light whiffs and asked me the brand and specific perfume name because she’d like a bottle herself.
I think JM should put me on the payroll. ?
Hope everyone has wonderful weekend!
Deva, thanks for the laugh this morning! I love your NSTnickname➡️Verb usage there. ?
Maybe JM will see your post and send you some freebies. ?
I’m willing to be on any and all payrolls! I don’t think Lady Jo would ever be convinced I would make a good brand ambassador or on any payroll or hers since I generally find the entire line kinda BLAH! But than, I’m certainly not the target audience. There, I said it! Just my opinion, and I know others really love the line, which is great. This one…I find absolutely delicious! ?
It’s hard being an all or nothing person..?
Hahaha! JM and Rogue are similar lines for me, in that I really like many of their scents but luv not a one.
LoL, maybe Merriam-Webster will add “hajusuuried” to the dictionary next year.
I paid someone a compliment today and I asked what she was wearing. She mumbled “Kilian” and was shocked that I knew it. She “doesn’t recall” which perfume though so I will ask her again next week ?.
It’s probably one with an embarassing name that she didn’t want to say out loud ?
My one true aim in life is to make you famous in the perfume world! Adding “hajusuuried” to our vernacular is just the first step in my plan to have the fragrance community take over the world! Bwaahaha! ?
You smell great!
Thank you! ?
I was out on my walk this morning and complimented a woman at our local coffee shop. She was wearing Jo Malone. 🙂
Oh, nice! I love getting and giving perfume compliments. ?
Myrrh & Tonka would be the first JM for me to purchase, if I ever do so.
I’m not sure, but I think they may offer it in a travel spray? See below- you could probably do an easy split with this set:
https://www.nordstrom.com/s/jo-malone-london-cologne-intense-set/6493612?origin=category-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FBeauty%2FTravel%20%26%20Mini%20Sizes&color=000
Need to re-sniff Myrrh & Tonka to make sure I still like it. I thunked a decant in record time but I have changed my mind on other perfumes in the past.
Good morning and TGIF!
I cannot pass on the chance to wear one of my all time fave… so sotd is yummy spicy, good old Youth Dew.
Currently drinking a cup of Chai with extra ginger.
You smell fabulous, and I’m thinking what you thought: Youth Dew for a happy FriYAY.
Friday, how I love you!
Lovely picture, Robin.
Cinnabar – vintage for the CP.
Booster update – very sore arm, headache. mostly feeling grateful to get.
Oh you smell wonderful! Vintage Cinnabar and Spellbound are fantastic perfumes. EL really knocked it out of the park with those two.
I’m glad for the booster, and hope you feel better soon!
vintage Aliage is great also, but impossible to find.
Oh totally! Vintage bottles are as rare as hen’s teeth, so to speak.
Many EL reformulations are actually, well-done. Aliage reform wasn’t among them, I’m sorry to say.
Ach, I never see Aliage around here despite well-stocked EL counters in department stores, and I always look for it regardless, and you have just cured me of wanting to try it.
Just take it easy – I didn’t really feel sick after my booster, just exhausted, so I slept as much as I could until I didn’t feel like sleeping any more! Probably 5 days before the exhaustion lifted completely. Now fit as a fiddle and happy to be more protected in a state where infections are starting to rise again….
Try to keep that arm moving. It helps. ??
I know, I know.
Wax on, wax off!
Feel better soon!
That too shall pass but at least you got it. Rumor has it that the CDC may change the definition of “Fully Vaccinated”.
I suspected this was coming soon, since it’s widely known the vaccines don’t give long-term immunity. I’m curious how often the boosters will be required to be deemed « fully vaccinated ».
I figured it would be more of a definition for different populations, i.e., 65+ = fully vaxxed with 3 doses, etc.
But it’s so confusing already they’d probably be better off clarifying the current recommendations.
CP twins!
Day five of Spice World and I’m in what I think is the ultimate fall scent, Yves Rocher Nature Millènaire Pour Homme, which smells uncannily autumnal — bare earth and crunchy leaves and a whole cornucopia of gorgeously dusty spices. Every spring I put it away, and every fall I look forward to breaking it out again.
Lemming created! ? Now on the hunt, lol!
I don’t know about the availability of the men’s but the women’s version, if you can find it, has been d/c for awhile and is extremely expensive compared to its original moderate price. Both men’s and women’s versions are excellent and not that dissimilar.
Thanks, Laila, good to know! I will look for the men’s, since I gravitate towards more masculine frags for fall/winter.
Good luck! I tend to gravitate towards the more masculine scents also (love woods and spice). There’s nothing really ‘feminine’ about the women’s; you’d probably enjoy it just as much.
House twins.
Yes, yes, yes! I wore the women’s version for last Friday’s cp (chose Adobe as the color to match). It’s everything you say it is, one of the best YR scents ever!
That sounds amazing.
Good morning and happy Friday!
Wearing a spray of Trayee at the moment but since I’m off today, I may put on something else before the day is done.
PSA: Molton Brown is having their F&F 25% off promotion this weekend.
I ordered the new Jubilant Pine and Patchouli and Neon Amber shower gels. Will report back once I’ve tried them.
Yes, please report back, especially on Jubilant Pine. That one sounds really good.
Tempting!
I’m wearing what I wore for the coffee CP, Demeter Pumpkin Spice Latte. This is a perfume oil, and lasts quite a long time on my skin. I got it free with purchase.
Curious — does that one smell like pumpkin too, or like spices + coffee?
It smells more like spice and coffee. I don’t smell pumpkin.
Thanks!
Morning and happy Friday! My SOTD is Asja, by Fendi. Spicy, powdery floral with a great resinous dry down. Anything from the house of Fendi is a favorite. 🙂
Coffee consumed, walking shoes on and I’m out the door. I’ll see everyone later!
Asja! YUM
I’ll have to remember to wear this one soon
Picked Arabie for today for the clove and nutmeg! I love it. Paired with a sweater dress with with dancing skeletons on it, about the extent of Halloween cheer I can get at work.
Last night my splitmeet package with Shalimar MVP came in so I had a cozy vanilla kinda night. A spicy vanilla is like catnip for me so of course I loved it.
Your sweater dress sounds great!?
Ditto!
Catnip for me, too! What are your other faves?
Tobacco Vanille, PdN Vanille Tonka, Alien Musc Mysterieux, House of Sillage Benevolence are what I was into last winter.
Thank you! Samples are in carts 😉
Report back ?
LOVE the skeleton sweater dress idea. Halloween light!
Sampling Slumberhouse Mond which has spices, pumpkin and cream among the listed notes and smell autumnal but not like a latte because of the other notes
do let us know how this goes throughout your day!
Twins today!
I ordered a large sample yesterday.
I received mine Monday, it’s potent and yummy. 🙂
I am looking forward to it!
Is “large sample” code for “full bottle”? 😉
In hajusuuri’s case it certainly is!
And jalapeño be right ?
ELdO Like This for the ginger today.
Yay for National Cat Day! My cat is currently stalking one of the backyard cats…from inside. Poor kitty hates being an indoor cat, but it’s best for her.
Meanwhile, I’m just trying to get the kid out the door in her (finally finished) Halloween costume. Next year, I’m putting my foot down and stating that high school kids are in charge of their own costumes, after all this time. It feels like the tweens are a bit old for trick-or-treating, but as they’re still in elementary school here, they haven’t quite yet shed those kid things. She’s always dreamt up elaborate Halloween costumes, which I get to make real.
Aww, you are a good parent! My daughter is a sophomore this year and she won’t trick or treat. She thought that freshman year would be the last year she and her friends went out, but, covid.
All the kids have had so many restrictions and roadblocks to fun in the past 20 months that I hope they all go out trick or treating this year — high school kids included. Heck, I won’t even judge if the local college students feel the need to don costumes and come to my door for free candy.
I completely agree! A bit of innocent fun much needed after these past months.
I think we’ve probably had it a bit easier than most, as the kids were in school all last year and we did have Halloween, even if some houses opted out and candy was delivered via chutes. But, that said, yes, everyone needs a little innocent fun this year. 🙂
My tween went to Scouts in costume last weekend, and to school in costume today. I offered the chance to go to the Greenwich Village Halloween parade, and she turned it down in order to go trick or treating in the neighborhood. To be fair, I’d choose trick or treat too–we have everything from a candy exchange in the park to single-family homes done up like the suburbs, to going down Broadway and stopping in at the cigar stores and bars for candy. It’s pretty epic!
That does sound epic! We just have the local neighbourhood businesses doing “Safe Trick-or-Treat” and the regular trick-or-treating in the neighbourhood. That said, we live along a major thoroughfare and the Safe Trick-or-Treat usually provides a good haul just by itself.
When I was a kid, we’d go trick or treating in large apartment buildings. A 25 story building with 6-10 apartments per floor netted a LOT of candy!
I have to say that as an adult I am not a halloween person at all. When I had a kid (not mine, my husband’s) to dress up, I found it to be a complete PITA. I’ll happily trim a tree, hang lights, bake cookies, and set up winter vignettes for christmas, but halloween I am just not in to.
I’ll trade you my Christmas for your Halloween! (And then it’s a Tim Burton movie…)
Glad that your kitty is an indoor one! It truly is for the best.
I decided to go for some fun, so I am in a cloud of pumpkin, cinnamon and ginger snap with BBW Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin: shower gel, body lotion and mist. Yummy!
Thank you all for your healing thoughts, hugs and well wishes for my mother’s health yesterday. They are all comforting and very appreciated. She is showing some improvement now in the morning. She may be move out of ICU to a room during the weekend if progress continues. Praying for it.
On my second cup of coffee with a dash of pumpkin spice and a pumpkin ginger muffin! ☕
Happy Friday! ??
good to hear!
Thanks!
Whoops, please see below. Don’t know how that happened!
You are ALL the spices PL67!
Glad your Mum is showing signs of improvement. X
Thank you, Portia!
Enjoying the cp and the season! ???
Healing prayers for your mom.
Thank you, Cazaubon!
What great news!
Thank you, Robin!
Sending healing thoughts and prayers your mom’s way and joining you in the same pumpkin spice bodystuff and similar foodstuff!
Thank you, Laila!
And welcome to the pumpkin spice club! We smell great! ??
I’m glad to hear that your mother is making progress.
Thank you, Gaynor!
Ohh, I want your breakfast! Glad to hear your mom is improving! That’s the best of all news!
Thank you, ST!
Passing you some of my early breakfast!
Hope things continue in an upward trajectory. Have a good weekend and hope you can get in some rest and relaxation.
Thank you, Kpaint!
I hope your mother’s health keeps improving. Look after yourself.
Thank you, Kanuka. Looking forward to a healthier and more relaxing weekend!
Sending healing prayers to your mom!
Thank you, Sistine!
Very pleased to hear a positive progress report about your Mom! ?
Thank you, Jalapeno! Hope tomorrow is a much better day!
I got nothing for the CP today, so I sprayed on Mitsouko just because….
I’m sure cats around the world are amused at the idea there’s a single cat day set aside for them. They know that every day is cat day.
That is too true!
You smell wonderful, and yes: everyday is Cat Day at our house!
If you read McSweeney’s, there is a funny cat-related post on there today. Every day is cat day in my house too. 🙂
Friday, FriYAY! I made it! 9 days of work in a row. Whew.
I’m in Safran Troublant, and I know I’ll be twins with at least one other nster because I saw her insta early this morning. ?
Just need to make through a day of computer based training and then I’m going to enjoy a weekend of r&r. We have an Airbnb and will spend the weekend with my college daughter. She texted me earlier this week about how she’s kicking @&$ in her analytical class class. That’s my girl!?
That’s analytical CHEM class.? clearly she doesn’t get her smarts from me?
LOL! And congrats to you both! Have a great weekend together.
Thanks kpaint! My brain is mush, I need this weekend badly.?
Woo hoo! Go madtownscholar!
Hehe, thanks sistine! She’s a biomedical sciences major, when she talks to me about what she’s studying it hurts my brain. lol. I’m so proud of her.☺️
We are TWINS! I saw your comment on Insta!
? hey twin! You are an early bird!
It’s my in office day and i need to catch the 6:31am train to make it in before 8am. I built in a stop at Starbucks to get breakfast.
Congrats and have a great weekend!
Thanks cazaubon!?
Yay!
?
Yay for your girl and enjoy the weekend ahead!
Thanks Laila!?
You made it! Enjoy your weekend! ?
I did!? Thanks pl67!
W00t w00t w00t for surviving that 9 day run!
I enjoyed Analytical Chemistry very much back in the day. I thought it was fun.
I missed yesterday pl67, but so glad to hear your mom is showing some improvement! Continued good thoughts your way!?
Thank you, mtg! ?
Same!
Rainy day here, warming it up with DSH super spicy carnation Oeillets Rouges, although right now it is less spicy and more carnationy…Happy Friday, one and all…
You smell nice and spicy!
I’m in Amouage Lyric Woman for the cinnamon, though my hand almost stopped at Shanghai Lily for the clove. Maybe that beautiful monster will be my bedtime scent tonight.
I’m discovering how much I generally like cinnamon notes. Any cinnamon favorites?
Indie fragrance oil line Alkemia used to/maybe still does have a perfume called New Orleans Love Spell that is an overdose of jasmine and cinnamon. However it has real cinnamon oil in it, which can be irritating to the skin and that turned out to be the case for me. Maybe you’d have better luck, though.
I love Arquiste Anima Dulcis. It’s not super cinnamon-y but it’s definitely present!
I’m a cinnamon lover too, my favorites off the top of my head are Smell Bent Horny Little Devil, DSH Cimabue, and Hermes Ambre Narguile.
+1 for Cimabue!
Rousse
Finally here joining the CP! Today I’m taking a page from SmokeyToes (iirc) and wearing CK Obsession. Vintage bottle, gifted to me by a kind friend. I never wore it back in the day, but I’m in love with it now. ❤️? ?
Happy Halloween, all! ? ???
SO GOOD AnnE. You smell perfect.
Thank you, Portia! I’m on my own today, so I can wear it safe in the knowledge that its power is not overwhelming anyone. ☺️
MMM oooh Ahhh you smell good!
?
Wearing Avon Rare Rubies for the cinnamon, though to be sure it smells more like Christmas than pumpkin pie.
To me, pumpkin pie spices just smell like the winter holidays in general 🙂
I can’t tell you how long it took me to realize that PSL had nothing to do with pumpkin, and was just about the spices, and that most people who claim to love all things pumpkin are also referring to the spices.
Exactly. Even this week there seems to be a bunch of confusion over the cp…I probably should have been more explicit in the description.
Another day in the Week of Spice, another sweater with yummy-smelling sleeves. I’m in Safran Troublant again today since it’s not too Hello!! Perfume!!! for a site visit at the preserve, and thinking I’ll transition to Lyric later and then Vol de Nuit for evening/bedtime. I don’t generally map out perfume plans in advance, but I’m in the mood for all three and this is the progression that makes sense for my day. 🙂
Triplets! How did your meeting go yesterday?
It was lovely — couldn’t have been a more beautiful autumn day and it was a really fruitful opportunity to compare notes on land stewardship with one of my peers, plus resulted in plans to get together for girl time and drinks sometime soon. Today should be similar: equally beautiful weather, and a field meeting with the contractor’s project manager who is also a woman and a botanist like me.
Sounds wonderful.
How nice!
Wow, lovely! Sounds satisfying work-wise, and exciting socially.
Enjoy your trifecta.
That sounds like heaven. I’m glad the past few days have been so nice for you.
Sounds great!
This CP is right up my alley and will likely continue this weekend. Today I’m in Theorema and thoroughly enjoyed getting fragrant whiffs during my yoga class (online) this morning.
You smell fantastic! Enjoy the yoga — I need some of that. Or both.
SOTD is LADDM, which doesn’t quite fit the pumpkin pie prompt, but is spicy! I have been wearing Anima Dulcis quite a bit this week which is more in line.
Mine doesn’t smell like pie either, not a requirement!
Both fabulous scents. 🙂
LAdDM is a wonderful spice & incense fest!
Wearing Givenchy III for work and when that fades I will be wearing Theorema for after work. Just waiting for the Sephora sale to being next month. Have my basket filled but will see what I truly want when the sale comes.
So, what are you thinking of? I’m pondering Kilian L’Heure Verte. It’s hanging out in my basket.
Off the top of my head I have a Dior Savage deodorant and a travel spray.
Hey, Dawn, would you like an Eau Sauvage one? The hubs doesn’t want it anymore. You can find me at standing dawt armsakimbo in Gmaleland.
Indochine for me, after Deva’s mention of it yesterday. Mr. G approved — said “you smell nice!” on first sniff, and then “you still smell nice” as I walked past him 10 minutes later. I think Indochine is waaaay beyond “nice”, but I’ll accept the compliment anyway. ?
I think “nice” is husband-speak for “amazing”, lol.
Awarding myself CP points for wearing Slumberhouse’s new Mond. I get lots of sweet pip tobacco, apple cider, wet fall leaves, and a honey-resiny note. I don’t get the claimed pumpkin note, but that’s ok — apple cider spices overlap with pumpkin spices and I prefer a mug of hot apple cider over a PSL anyway.
In the office(!) this morning because my department is holding an Oktoberfest and a low-stakes (and socially distanced) field day competition in the parking lot this afternoon.
Well jel of your Mond! Lucky you. Sounds fabulous.
Did your Field Day end up getting rained out, or was your weather better than mine this afternoon?
It was chilly but we got all of the events in before the rain started. My department has a knack for planning our outdoor events on days that threaten rain.
Going literal today with the CP: SOTD is Dior Spice Blend: pink pepper, cinnamon, bay, vanilla, woods.
Off to run errands. After 4 years of stalling, our HOA notified us that they are fixing (more like patching) some road issues on our road starting Monday — which will mean that the road will be closed during daylight hours all of next week! Gotta love the heads-up. Now I have to get all of next week’s errands done today, joy.
Oooh! Spice Blend! Good choice.
Good luck with the errands!
? Better late than never, but that’s ludicrous.
It gets better.
After I spent the morning rescheduling deliveries etc for next week, the road manager sent out an email saying they were postponing for a week, due to rain in the forecast. Was there rain in the forecast when they sent out yesterday’s email about roadwork next week? Why yes, yes there was.
So I have had to un-do all the rescheduling for next week, and start working on rescheduling for the week after. YAY.
Unreal. Perhaps there are actual real reasons that traffic needs to be completely blocked off, but I’ve never heard of a (public, anyway) road project where they couldn’t have flaggers out doing traffic control to let cars pass when it’s safe to do so.
Seriously? FFS.
Hey All,
Hope you’re ready for a fabulous Halloween. I’ve been doing Halloween Trivia all week and it’s been so fun.
Tonight for the CP I’ve spritzed enormous amounts of Arabie by Serge Lutens. Cloves, Nutmeg and other spices with fruit mince and woodsy resins. So gorgeous.
I think I can, smell you here in Germany, waft on Portia
HA! You might just have got a stray whiff.
You smell delicious!
PL67! I really did. What a perfume
I have a 2013 bottle so perhaps it is not the juice that seems to have made Arabie controversial? As for what I have, I love it and you smell wonderful!
Hey MossyBerry,
I think mine isn’t much older than that. Smells really good to me.
Bring on the Halloween! I’m so excited!
EXCELLENT! What is your costume Missionista?
Captain James T. Kirk! Mr. Missionista is going as the Evergiven cargo ship, and KidMissionista is a character from a video game called Sky.
SO cool. Have a super fun, safe adventure out there
Twins 🙂 The nutmeg comes out really strong on me. No complaints.
Woo Hoo! SNAP! Dorsey
We smell so good.
Wondering how many Trick or Treaters we will get here. It’s been given the green light, and I’ve told Mr. Jalapeno that he is on door answering duty this year.
Do you love to get 100s or are a few better? I’ve really only seen Halloween in Movies. The last year we were at the big house was the first time we’d been trick or treated ever. Fortunately there is ALWAYS some form of candy around.
Good for you Jalapeño, delegation is always a good idea for the tough jobs.
We usually get Costco-sized bag of Halloween candy, so more kids is better in my book! To get a better sense of scale, that means right now we have around 600 pieces of candy here. I usually give out 3 or 4 pieces per kid.
I enjoy seeing the costumes, but I had at least 2 Halloweens in recent memory where I was solo. So that meant I was answering the door, and cat wrangling simultaneously. Spooky kitty looks like the perfect Halloween cat, but HATES the doorbell. Trick or Treat is a horror story for her. She spends most of it cowering in a hiding spot.
And that should be “BAGS” of Halloween candy, plural.
Hoping that temptation gets removed soon!
We are lucky to get even one trick or treater (and if we do, they are rewarded with a full size bar) but my parents’ new house is in a primo trick or treating neighborhood, and I’m looking forward to helping out with door duty over there this year. I love seeing the kid in their costumes.
Sounds like Halloween heaven
POOR KITTY! We have a dog who hates meeting people, he’s terrified of kids. I love that every pet has it’s own neuroses like people.
Wonderful! I have Arabie and thought about it for today … maybe I’ll make it my SOTN!
OOH! That would be very cool OH. A time and geographically distant SNAP!
Copying Happy888Cat for the CP in Estee Lauder Youth Dew, recent bottle from Marshall’s. I considered Sensuous Noir, but while I like SN, it gets all piney-amber-barbershop-ish in an off and on way. I just cannot do piney and barbershop. YD just smells wonderful in all its phases, but for me the dry down is the best part. Looking forward to everyone’s choices!
Very glad to read this and see how much you’re enjoying it, what a lovely perfume!
I’ve considered adding the current Youth Dew to my Perfume Wardrobe. But I already have Cinnabar and 3 different kinds of Opium.
Just bought a bottle of Francesca Bianchi Under My Skin, as I could not forget it.
Congrats on the new bottle!
SOTD = L’Artisan Parfumeur Safran Troublant
Spicy woody pudding ❤️

Triple points for me because of spice, the Dia de los Muertos cat in the same picture AND an early Caturday post (an d I’ll have another one tomorrow):
https://www.instagram.com/p/CVnCWutLb4h/?utm_medium=copy_link
I feel an observation coming but I will save it for tomorrow — it’s about dogs!
And a PSA – check out Target starting Sunday as they are doing what they did last year with starting Black Friday sales early!
Love both pictures, but especially judgment cat in #2.
I was surprised to see him still plopped down on the roof of the car after I walked back from dropping something in a mailbox about 4 minutes away.
Oh but I love that fragrance! You smell like sexy holiday baking 🙂
And great tip on Target info!
Thank you. The sales were really great last year. Specially good are home and kitchen stuff.
That Day of the Dead cat always looks like a Chihuahua to me, LOL!
That’s so true! There was a Day of the Dead dog too but not nearly as cute as the cat.
T-Rex is waiting with bated breath! ?
LOL!
I saw this on your Insta after I’d decided on Arabie. What a terrific choice Hajusuuri.
Thank you Portia!
I’m doing spices on spices, this morning vintage Opium EdT, now topped up with a tiiiny spritz of the Elephant.
Spent 1h in an enormous traffic jam on the way home, so I am glad it’s Friday with a nice dinner and a bottle of fine Riesling. Have a good weekend you all!!!
Good weekend to you too, I bet you smell great with that layering.
Two excellent choices.
Smelling FANTASTIC! Too bad you weren’t able to bike and avoid the vehicular hullabaloo ??♀️
I’m wearing my spice heavy-hitter today, PG Un Crime Exotique. Notes of cinnamon, star anise, masala chai, gingerbread, osmanthus, holly, vanilla, tea, and sandalwood. I am all the winter holidays rolled into one!
I got my split of Shalimar MVP last night and did a wrist-to-wrist comparison with Shalimar Mexique. MVP is all about the vanilla and less about Shalimar, and is quite a soft scent. Mexique is about 2/3 Shalimar, 1/3 vanilla, and has more body and sillage. If I didn’t have Mexique I would love MVP but I don’t need both. So I’ve freed up a potentially purchased bottle of MVP for someone else 🙂
Thank you for writing this comparison, good to know.
I thought it was quite soft too. Glad for your comparison, I’ve never tried the Mexique, but am more of a vanilla than a Shalimar fan so it sounds like I’ve got the right one for me.?
Thanks for your thoughts about MVP. I’ve heard it’s pretty low volume, which is fine by me. If I want to shout, I have plenty of Montalé samples. I had the Shalimar blah blah blah Mexique but there was a hitch in the dry down I didn’t care for and swapped it away. Hoping I have better luck with MVP. Maybe I have a bottle winging towards me because you passed on it, so Thank You!
lol, great analogy to shouting via Montale!
I’m craving soup and will get vegetables tomorrow to make some.
Wearing for the CP Yves Rocher Folies de Saisons Délires d’Automne with ginger and cinnamon which is part gingerbread and part Dr Pepper, a little-known gem imo.
This is now the beginning of soup season! Just having a pot burble on the stove makes a place feel cozy and warm.
Oh yes for the pot on the stove, I have purple onions which will make it inside the soup.
I’ve been somewhat obsessively making (and planning more) soups from pulses. I get deliveries on Fridays from a local (mostly hydroponic) farm and have a glut of broccoli that I’m ready to roast & turn into soup.
You’re absolutely right, pulses make great soups, I favor yellow split peas and red lentils.
I made an Ethiopian stew last week from yellow split peas called Kik Alicha that was delicious.
Do you have any favorites? Red lentils are a go-to but I think this was my first time cooking yellow split peas.
It sounds wonderful, I like to add spinach to yellow split peas, I’m in the UK and the pulses I get are from India generally.
Pulses are so filling and satisfying to eat. Plus they freeze really well and are as good as as just made.
Lentil soup in particular is my staple food.. quite a traditional Spanish comfort dish to eat and so easy! Few chopped vegs, spices and salt in lentils + some water, pressure cooker a few minutes and ready! I also love chickpeas but the pre-soaking makes them a bit less practical.
I love chickpeas, too. I finally broke down and bought a bunch of canned, as there are some good products out there and it’s so much quicker and easier. But then I bought a Palestinian cookbook that convinced me I should cook the dried ones, so I have both. But dried does take a lot of advance planning.
Definitely the time of year for comfort foods. I made meatloaf earlier this week because I was craving that. It’s almost gone now.
Last trip to the grocery store I got a Sloppy Joe seasoning mix! Talk about comfort food.
Yep, that’s definitely part of the Comfort Food Group!
Home-made meatloaf, wonderful.
Soup is my favourite part of cold weather. Hope it’s YUMMY!
Thank you Portia, yes, it’s one of the pleasures of the season.
Come des Garçons Cinnamon. A light, cinnamon cologne ( Duchaufour is the nose behind this one). Later, Confetti: candied violet, sweet rose and sugared almonds ( like my granny used to buy for Christmas. We were allowed one per visit, so they gathered dust in the bowl on the sideboard for months. Pastel colours: pink, white, blue).
My grandmother wouldn’t let us eat the nuts either. They were for ” company” I would of course sneak some ?
You smell wonderful! I love violet candy, especially Choward’s Violet candies. And of course, violet in fragrance is divine.
My grandma had a candy canister that I found mesmerizing as a child. I was always sad that it disappeared when she moved, only to be thrilled when my cousin found the same canister in a thrift shop. Apparently, the candy had come in it originally as a promotion. It’s now in my perfume “fort” and reminds me of her.
Nice memory to have! Grandmothers are so special. I have my grandmothers crucifix that hung on her dining room wall her entire life. It’s all I have of her, other than an original photo when she was a young lady. When I got the crucifix, I was amazed to find hidden inside a rosary, candles, and a little bottle for holy water! Not being familiar with a crucifix, I was happily amazed. ?
That’s not an ordinary crucifix! I’ve never come across one like that.
Really? I thought it was special but have to admit I limited experience with crusifixes…
I love your candy story! What a great memory.
SOTD: Like This from a sample ( just saw the new Community Project and laughed!)
2) Applied for a holiday job at the local Hardware store for sweet, sweet discounts and was promptly given their top pay plus a bonus for being vaccinated. And then given leads on other IT positions from the hiring manager whose partner also works in IT.
When a door closes more open, I think.
3) In a fit of pique, I cut down the overgrown hedge in the hellstrip! At first, it supposed to be a trim, then I just went gangbusters. The result? There is more light and air in the strip; the lavender, roses and other herbs will flourish. And there is now more visual space- I could take out the hedge completely and replace perhaps with more plants. We shall see.
Pique gardening, I love it 🙂
Sometimes the shears and loppers gotta do their job!
Hey that’s great about the job!
It really is! They sell quality stuff- like no voc / low voc paint, Green Egg BBQ and solid, Made in America hand tools and such. Great people that I like already so working holiday is gonna be great!
Perfumed high five on the job – yes! And, I venture to say that most hedges will benefit from “piqued” attitudes! Mine do, anyway 🙂
I know that the roses do- prune with extreme prejudice, as they say!
So happy to hear your good news! Both on the job front and the garden. Congratulations!
That’s a great holiday gig – enjoy that sweet discount!
Congratulations on the job offer! And I bet your plants are thanking you; they will be flourishing next year.
Congrats on the job!
Spice is a hole in my scent wardrobe–I just don’t have much. So I’m wearing Bengale Rouge from a 1mL sample. It starts off all myrrh and spices (mostly cinnamon). Now many hours later, it has dried down to a straight up amber, which I don’t like nearly as much.
In OJ Woman and reveling in cardamom.
I’m so envious that you get cardamom from OJ Woman. That doesn’t come out at all on my skin.
Like many of you, I ❤️ pumpkin & spice foodstuffs (and body stuffs!) at this time of year. For lunch today, I had a pumpkin spice bagel w/pumpkin spice cream cheese and a bowl of homemade Zippy Corn Chowder. ? For today’s cp, I’m wearing Dame Perfumery Dark Horse edp, its clove and cinnamon notes layering nicely over BBW’s Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin body products. It’s a chilly, windy, rainy day here but I’m warm both inside and out, thanks to pumpkin and spice! ?
Early this week I had both my Covid booster and flu shots, one in each arm. In retrospect, I should’ve gotten both shots in the same arm and just had one very sore arm rather than two. As an extreme right-hander (and I don’t recall ever getting a shot in that arm before) I overused that hand and arm the next day and, wow did my arm ache for awhile (other arm was okay). But no other side effects and I’m almost back to normal now, so at least I’m as prepared as I can be for whatever lies ahead this this winter. Here’s hoping that by next spring life will be closer to normal ?!
Sunday’s weather looks nice so I’m looking forward to some trick or treaters ?. . . and pumpkin spice waffles for a Halloween breakfast ? .
And Happy National Cat Day from my ???to yours and a belated Happy National Black Cat Day https://nationaldaycalendar.com/national-black-cat-day-october-27/ from my baby ?⬛.
I’ve tried sparing swipes from my Dark Horse sample and liked it — I need to dump half the vial on myself and properly figure out what it is. Sounds like you’re in a very cozy place between your food and your fragrance!
Last year I made pumpkin pancakes for my son and he took a bite and then looked at me dubiously and said, “This is… a pancake?” I thought they’d be a huge hit. Maybe we’ll try waffles this year and they’ll go over better.
Better luck this year with the waffles! My grandkids love everything pumpkin but perhaps that’s just not to your son’s taste. We’re having ours with pure maple syrup and uncured hickory-smoked bacon. Yum! ?
Pumpkin Spiced Pancakes! ?
I hope both arms feel 100% better tomorrow! I love many Dame Perfumes but haven’t tried Dark Horse – I should seek it out.
Wearing a bit of both SL Rousse and El Attarine. Not particularly spicy, but definitely autumnal.
Today I am attempting to complete all my splits to mail out but I have a stuck bee bottle stopper. Bottle is in the freezer for a few minutes to attempt to pry it loose. Pray for me. 🙂
Did your bottle get unstuck?
Yes! Fridge didn’t work, but 10 minutes in the freezer did the trick. I was able to get all my splits out today!! Whew.
??
Fingers and toes crossed!
Sending good thoughts on the stuck stopper!
GOOD LUCK with the Bee Bottle.
A dull start to Saturday, and I’ve just looked up to see that it’s started to rain, not very inspiring weather.
I knew I liked spice notes, but hadn’t realised the extent of that till this week’s CP. I’ve been nodding my head as I’ve read your comments – got that, like that, already on my list to try, now added to my list 🙂
Post-shower, I’m thinking about PG’s Indochine.
Indochine is lovely! I’ve had that same experience as you when it comes to spice and perfumes. Could probably be CP compliant for weeks..?
Hello everyone, this week has been such fun in perfume, which makes me very glad about this community. Wearing a vast amount of SL Un Bois Vanille today – I am usually very sparing with my Serges so they will last, but it felt great to just spray and spray this morning. Mr Dolce joined in today with Tom Ford London. Hope you all get to the end of the week safely and scentedly, and enjoy the Halloween treats!
Ooh, jealous of your Gouverneur, Robin.
Sampling PdE Fougere Bengal, and my nose has been stuck to my wrist all day. Strange and wonderful scent… and do I detect a gingerbread vibe? I normally don’t do foodie at all, but this one has my attention.
That house has so many lovely fragrances. Haven’t tried FB but it sounds great. I’d like to have a couple small bottles of my favorites…?
I was planning to wear my most spice-forward scent, Vanilla Hinoki, but got briefly distracted by the vintage (dark & syrupy) Cinnabar sitting out on my dresser. I realized too late that I had overapplied the Cinnabar, got most of it off, then sprayed Vanilla Hinoki a couple of hours later.
I’ve realized reading all the comments this week that I’m kind of oblivious to spices in perfume. Y’all are wearing all kinds of stuff I have and/or know that I’d never identified spices in. As a (trained) cook and (self-trained) baker, I’m rather perplexed, as I’m very attuned to the scent of spices when cooking & baking (& eating.) Not attuned to them in perfume, apparently!
Happy Friday!
They’re both PERFECT choices for the CP paint.
Strange about your schnoz not picking up perfumery spices, they are different though.
I’ve been baking, so I’m in eau de kitchen right now. We’re going to a birthday party later for two of the doggies we know from the dog park, so I’ve made dog biscuits for the four legged celebrants and a pumpkin cake for the two leggeds.
After my shower, I’ll be in Organza Indecence. Cinnamon spicy goodness. ❤️
You smell good! Vintage OI is my favorite! Will be pulling it out in November; I like to wait for the cold weather to arrive first.
Fun! Enjoy the party ??
Eau de kitchen could have been perfect for this week’s CP too. ?
Yeah, I thought that too.
Eau de Kitchen would definitely sell I reckon.
Enjoy the pup party!
If anyone needs ELDO for next week, they are running a BOGO sale right now oj their website ?
You temptress! ?
NOT READING!! He He he
You get an enabler pin.
Ended up in Maison Crivelli Iris Malikhan, from melisand61’s May split. I do not smell spicy, but I do smell most delicious.
We are supposed to go to a dance concert this evening, in am actual theater with a real audience. Proof of vaccination or negative COVID test required for entry (we are in NY State so many people will have the Excelsior Pass to speed up the document review). Children under 12 must be masked. I am looking forward to the event but al anxious, too.
Good luck with your concert! I get the feeling anxious in crowded indoor spaces thing. Experienced it a few times recently.
You do smell great and enjoy the concert!
I hope it goes well! I’ve had a few ‘firsts’ lately, including my first in-person group meeting since before the pandemic, and they’ve been such an odd mixture of delight and uneasiness.
Song of the Day: https://youtu.be/IuezNswtRfo
Something a little early for Halloween, music-wise. ??
Downright yucky weather here today. Rainy and windy, with occasional power flickers. We haven’t lost power yet, and are hoping that stays the same. But there are still plenty of gorgeous red leaves on the maple tree across the street as I type this. ???
SOTD = YSL Opium Fleur de Chine, from Elisa P and the decant stash. It is wonderful! The OG Opium is all the spices on me… never noticed a floral note in that mélange. But this has a lighter touch with the spices, a hint of fresh orange peel, and some flowers that I can’t ID but have enjoyed sniffing as the day has gone on.
?saw them at First Avenue back in the day.
Not great weather here either, but the weekend is supposed to be sunny.?
Tomorrow is looking kinda sketchy for me. You know the weather will be sub-optimal when the best thing the meteorologists say is “It’s not a washout.”
Where IS ElisaP? I keep hoping to see her here, but no sign yet.
I wore a decant Petunia sent me the other day, who also seems to have disappeared.
(Not that I really have room to talk…)
ElisaP said that she was taking a break from social media quite a while ago. I hope that she is doing well.
OOH! Another fan here of YSL Opium Fleur de Chine! I didn’t even think of Opium for this week, bum.
There’s still a day or two before Halloween!
I don’t know what your SOTD smells like but I bet it’s good. Wind is howling outside and I am hoping I don’t lose power overnight!
It’s close to Opium but different. Not the most helpful description I’ve ever posted, is it?
The Internet took a bit of a break here earlier tonight. Not sure it was weather related, though.
I went for a walk in a nearby village this afternoon and stopped at Lush to try the new perfume Shade. I was happy to discover they had reissued the snowcake soap (marzipan scented) in the form of a polar bear soap. I stopped later at the Chanel counter and sprayed Gabrielle Essence… I keep thinking about getting this one but I never do. It’s very pleasant though.
After my evening shower I have put on Vanille Mona di Orio which is a beautiful spiced vanilla with strong clove (my favourite spice alongside anise… and I guess, vanilla which is also a spice!). The other spiced candidate was Lolita Lempicka.
What did you think about Shade?
Pulses are so filling and satisfying to eat. I liked it, first impression was a soft (for lush) pleasant woody perfume. However I made the mistake of spraying a couple others (can’t help myself!) and with Lushes that can muddle things a bit as they are so strong. Need to retest.
Sounds like Shade is worth a sniff, then.
I quite liked it and bought a bottle. It has a sweet papery, woody feel to it.
I had a sample of the that MdO vanilla and loved it. Should have bought a bottle. Sounds like you had a terrific smelling day. ?
It is still around! I wish I could send you a sample/decant.
Yes, I was looking online the other day, but thought “Well, my memory may have hijacked my good sense, so probably better to just pass on by.” Sometimes my memory of a thing is better than the actual thing, although I pretty sure that MdO was as fab as I remember.
I really love it. To me it is delicious true custard softly spiced vanilla, and having smelt a few more including Dulcis in Fundo, Ivory Route, Lira, this is the one I settled for. Love at first sniff.
How did I manage to copy paste that?! First sentence doesn’t belong here ?
Today I am so non-CP compliant – I wore Hiris. Crazy day – our school bus drivers staged a sick out, so transportation for 2500 kids was a very serious problem. But it’s Friday night and the week is over… ?
I hope everyone had a decent week and is moving into a relaxing and renewing weekend.
Egads, what a day! ??
Smelling so great in Hiris! And sorry on the bussing situation, that’s awful.
Had a great lunch today with my work-buddies; it was so nice to catch up in person. We even had the coveted fireplace seats at the pub.
I even put on makeup (and used my sample of Lisa Eldridge foundation). It’s great stuff and one of the colors of the samples was a perfect match. I don’t think I’ve ever had such a perfectly matched foundation; can’t wait until this gets launched.
Wearing Old Spice as my sote! It’s not vintage but it’s still good.
Glad it was a great day!
Sounds awesome all around!
Woo hoo! Sounded like fun!
It’s been a long day for me.
Way back this morning I wore an oil dupe for Opium ( thanks to a generous nster) I am too tired to get up and look at the name, but blindfolded I would not be able to tell the difference.
I decided I have to stop reading online articles from Rolling Stone magazine. The last 2 I’ve read made me angry with them, and I don’t want my clicks to be misconstrued as support. ( I do understand they won’t even know, but I will know.)
I hope you have a gentle Friday night and a restorative and fun weekend ahead!
Hey, we were sorta kinda perfume cousins today then!
Good for you on avoiding things that only aggravate you. They just aren’t worth it.
I read twitter occasionally and it is full of negative things. Occasionally, there’s a tweet to cleanse the palate. I say your next views should be of cute kittens and derpy doggos ?. Pinky swear you’ll do that?
Pinky swear!
I’m with you on avoiding needless aggravation. I haven’t watched TV since April 2020.
I’ve been trying to stick with entertainment news, but even that has turned political now. It’s ridiculous.
Was the oil a dupe for vintage Opium, or the current version?
It’s called Tunisian Opium and smells very much like the vintage.
Okay, I totally went out on a limb here. Earlier SOTD was Like This, a wonderful gingerbread concoction. On a whim, SOTN is Le Labo’s Tabac 28, which has a cardamom note. I was curious about it because my husband tried it the other day (he had some as a gift from a friend) and was kind of stunned by it. So I proceeded with caution and barely dabbed my wrists tonight. The tobacco note dominates everything else but it does have a slight tinge of cardamom. CP points, or not?
Late getting here, sorry, but ALWAYS points if you try, IMO 🙂
More spicy goodness today with Chopard Casmir from a generous NSTer.
It’s the weekend! WOOT WOOT!
SOTD is Nicolai L’Eau Mixte, from the Swapmeet (thanks again, Katsura!) I love it. It’s citric, herbal, floral, and spicy, and somehow beautifully blended rather than a mess. I’ve seen cinnamon and nutmeg listed as the spices. There might be a little cardamom in there, too, although maybe it’s the mint giving an impression of cool spice. It has really good longevity, too.
I envy those of you wearing Like This. I must be anosmic to something in it–I could barely smell anything.
