Happy Thinking of You Friday! Our community project for today: wear a perfume that reminds you of someone else (a friend? a family member? another NST reader? a celebrity? anyone, really). Thanks go to chocolatemarzipan for the suggestion.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm in John Varvatos Artisan, which always reminds me of Kevin.
Reminder: 10/15 is Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse's birthday. Wear a perfume for Jeeves OR Wooster. If you have never seen or read anything about Jeeves and Wooster, pick a favorite comic character from any medium, and scent that character.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Sand and Sable which my mom used to wear when it was readily available in drugstores and before she moved on to Vanilla Fields
Ohhhh, I adore Sand and Sable! It brings back such great memories of H.S., the beach, giggling with friends!
Vanilla Fields! Loved that stuff. My best friend wore it and I always copied her.
I loved Vanilla Fields, too, especially the Parfum, not the cologne. I don’t think the Parfum has been made for a long time; I still have about 3 drops left in my vintage bottle and love to give it a sniff every now and then.
My mom wore that one sometimes and I do, too!
My mom had been wearing Balmain Jolie Madame for decades as a signature scent: it represented liberation to her (long story). Since I was essentially her dealer — don’t tell me fragrance isn’t a drug — I would buy her a new bottle every couple of years. The last time I bought her some, she was disappointed that it had changed drastically, to the point of no longer being the same scent, so I had to tell her about reformulation. I had recently gotten an ounce of vintage Molyneux Fête, so I gave her a decant in a nice atomizer, and she loved it — it’s not the same, obviously, but they’re both old-school chypres so they have the same bloodline. When she used that up, I poured her another, and that left me with a few millilitres for myself, which I still dole out occasionally, one precious drop at a time. She died a few years ago, but every time I wear it, or even see the bottle, I’m reminded of her. Her 78th birthday would have been exactly a week ago. Here’s to you, Mom.
Sounds bittersweet. Much love ❤
What a sweet story.
Tear jerker. ? I hope you always have a little on hand to remember her by.
Here’s to you and your mom.
Beautiful memory! ?
What a lovely story.
Such a sweet memory.
?? thanks for sharing that.
Such a lovely and bittersweet memory.
Touching story.
Happy Belated Birthday to Mompyramus!
Here’s to Mom ?! I love Jolie Madame and will no doubt remember your beautiful story next time I wear it. ?
Definitely bittersweet. ?
My mum’s birthday is today and she used Chanel #5 and something I thought was very exotic. It was by Jergens I think – Shanghai. I used to sneak a drop occasionally! In later years she used Youth Dew and that is what I associate with her the most.
I miss her.
My mum would have been 100 today. She did war work and met my dad to Halifax whenever he came home for a ship refitting. They don’t make em like that anymore!
I love this story, too.
And I think Shanghai might have been made by Lentheric.
Such a touching recount…thank you for sharing.♥️
Went with Nirvana Bourbon for a friend who is not a perfumista, but she liked it on me so she bought a 100ml bottle. Last weekend she reported that she wore it to a first date and it was a hit. Of course it was! Fantastic stuff.
That deserves an enabler badge, with a special gem to recognize her 100ml-size purchase!
I’ll take an extra shiny one please – she bought the dry shampoo, too!
You really did it!
I’m in PG Indochine today.
It reminds me of my BFF from my younger years, not in scent but in geography. She was born in Vietnam, moved to France at age seven, and then came to the US at age 16. We had a wonderful friendship for years and shared some of the best times of my life. I admired her courage, humor, resiliency and street smarts. She was a mastermind when it came to men, and it was so hilarious watching her work her magic. She taught me how to use chop sticks and make a dam* good spring roll. She was also kind hearted, acerbic, and complicated. We had a blast. ?
This is us back in the good old days:

Happy friYAY!
Oh my gosh I love this whole post!
There’s a lot of love in this post, so I’m happy you enjoyed it. ?
I will join you in Indochine today.
For my sister, my other half, my travel companion. I can see us moseying along the dusty paths next to the Mekong in Luang Prabong, scrambling over spong trees at Angkor, bargaining in the night markets and drinking coffee – iced or hot in Vietnam, walking all the steps to the top of Mandalay Hill in Burma.
So happy you’re joining me! I like good company. ?
me too!
What a cheerful post! Love it! ❤
She looks like she’d be great fun to be with!
What awesome memories! I have a sample of Indochine on the way, and your post has made me even more eager to try it.
Fun!
I love this post!
Great story and the photo is awesome. ? for sharing.
Wonderful post and picture! You both look so happy.
Beautiful post and picture…love this.♥️
I’m wearing Alaaaaaahine and thinking of Lovestosmellgood. 🙂
I haven’t heard that mentioned as frequently this past year. Smelling GREAT!
Maybe because of the reformulation? And — where’s mals?
And austenfan..?
And Pixel?
You do smell great! I am lucky to have the solid perfume which they don’t make anymore I don’t think, and a bottle that I treasure before they reformulated. I will wear alahiiiine this weekend I think! You inspired me
Cool. :-). I am wearing the vintage version.
I’m wearing Old Spice, which reminds me of my father, but also because I love it. Again, it wasn’t until I started reading NST that I realized that fragrance has no gender, and it was the first full bottle marketed to men that I ever bought.
Good choice!
That’s a good place to start. Old Spice is genuinely excellent, on pretty much everybody.
Right on! I bought my father-in-law a bottle of Habit Rouge, and every time they visit, I wonder why I haven’t bought myself a bottle yet.
I love Old Spice, too. Maybe I should get a bottle…*adds to window shopping list*
In SL L’Eau Froide, which will always remind me of Allo when I wear it. She was extremely generous to send me her bottle, when I recently dropped and broke mine into pieces. (Allo, thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. You have no idea how much I appreciate it! ❤ )
Nst is the best!
And it rhymes too!
Happy weekend pl67!
I agree! Nst generosity is amazing!
Happy weekend Lillyjo! ?
❤❤❤
???
You and allo (and many others here) are so generous! ♥
Thank you, Springpansy! You are all so generous here! This is a great community in many ways! ?
YAY! You do have a bottle now!
?
Hello!
Today I am wearing Youth Dew as it reminded me of my grandmother and also my mum. My granny’s vanity would always smell of powder and Youth Dew and I loved it.
Tea I am drinking now is Japanese Sencha (Deep roast).
Lovely Memory!
I tried to search for another sample which reminds me of my mom today, but struck out again, so I’m in one of my own favorites: Iris Poudre.
I’m out of mental energy but still good plowing through. Happy Friday, everyone!
Keep moving forward irisjasmine!
I love Iris Poudre, need to wear it again. Hang in there!
I’m wearing Hiris today because it makes me think of tiffanie. Yes to Hermes!
Yes!
Yes to Hermes and Yes to Hiris! You smell fabulous!
Hope that tiffanie is doing OK.
I’m non-compliant in Oui Plus, which is a fantastic gourmand from Kyse Perfume. Doesn’t remind me of anybody, though I kinda wish it did.
Happy Friday, all!
That’s okay – now it can remind us of you!
Good point!
I was going to go with Gris Charnel, cuz it reminded me of you when was scanning the perfume cabinet, but it has a little too much “oomph” for how I was feeling this morning!
Aww. CP points for thinking of me. Made my day?
I’d love to be considered this charming and delicious!
Reminds me of Cauzabon….she knows why
Hehehe 🙂
I tried Thé Matcha or whatever it was by Le Labo…it was ok..I get a good dose of fig, which I usually dnt get too jazzed about.
“or whatever” always makes me laugh ??
Me too…..
Not a fig fan in fumes either. 😉
I was hoping for not too much fig, not a favorite note of mine either.
🙂
In Miss Dior circa late 70’s/early 80’s which always reminds me of my mother who wore it in the 60’s. I’m actually awash in it because I spilled some during application. No complaints.
Mmm, one of my top favorites. I, too, have a bottle from that same era. Loved it when I was a teen; ❤️ it still.
So nice to have a vintage bottle.
Orchidée Vanille for my niece…her favorite scent (or at least a primary favorite.). And it’s perfect on this rainy day.
Other choices were Chanel No. 5…the only scent my sister wears, except I don’t own it. Lavandes Trianon for my other sister…she gave me a small decant. And Avon Bird of Paradise for my mom…she loved it dearly and I have the bottle I bought on eBay for her a few years before she passed. Not to mention Chanel No. 19 for Hajusuuri and Shalimar for Lovestosmellgood…the two enablers whose love prompted me to acquire bottles.
Big doings in our village this weekend. The annual Pumpkin Patch festival. Apparently it’s quite the draw. Lots of food, music, art fair, library book sale, various stuff for kids. And, of course, there are pumpkins everywhere you look. Let the invasion begin.
Oh that festival sounds so magical! I hope you have perfect autumn weather for it!
I want to go to this festival!
Shalimar is the queen..
That festival sounds like lots of fun! Enjoy!
My husband came home with the back of the car loaded with pumpkins…
I am thinking of Deva in her van, wearing Fils de Dieu. We both love it and the smell always makes me hungry…
Boyfriend made foccaccia, now I hope he can get it in the oven soon.
I am waiting for the results of my latest covid test. Three coworkers in bed with fever and headaches. I am completely vaccinated but also feel like I have caught something.
Fingers crossed, tannina!
I hope your test comes back negative and that you can get some rest and feel better soon.
Fingers crossed your test comes back negative and you’re okay!
Good luck with the test, Tannina! Hope you are ok!
Crossing fingers for you, too.
I hope you get a negative test.
Let us know!
Hope you are o.k. ??
Fingers crossed that your test comes back negative!
Big hugs and, by God, enjoy that foccaccia for all of us! 🙂
I hope the test comes back negative!
Hoping you feel better soon!
Well, I was *going* to wear Ella today, but can’t find my decant. It reminds me of my mother without tipping too far towards smelling exactly like her. She was a glamorous party girl before I came along — super intellectual, top of her professional field, and prone to dancing on tabletops with North African royalty, travelling around the world to scuba dive, always having a fabulous haircut. She was the one person I knew who always wore perfume when I was growing up, Tea Rose for running errands, 1000 for nights when the kohl and black velvet got broken out. I can’t wear 1000 but Ella has just enough Venn diagram overlap with it that I can wear it and be wrapped in warm thoughts of my mother while still feeling like myself.
She would have been 80 this year, but in my mind’s eye she’s still my age, suntanned and laughing and dancing in the kitchen.
Such great memories!
My mother is forever young in my mind too.
Oh, that’s awesome. Love the memories.
Wonderful memories of your mother! ?
Hat tip to your mum!
Yes, in the kitchen! my mother would turn 99 next week. I can see her in a sheath dress above her knees and a pillbox hat like Jackie Kennedy during the sixties.
Wow, what an awesome memory and what an awesome mom!
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww. ?
Beautiful memories of your amazing mother…thank you for sharing.♥️
What a great tribute to your mom, wonderful memories.
Doing some laundry and mail sorting. Procrastinating going to the grocery store.
I am wearing Miss Dior Le Parfum to remind me of lovely Aurora. We seem to be the only two to appreciate it. I think it would get more perfumista love if it would have had its own name. It’s a beautiful powdery patchouli.
My perfume tastes have morphed so much over the years, I wonder if I would now appreciate Miss Dior. I keep meaning to revisit it.
Le Parfum doesn’t really smell like Miss Dior, it’s patchouli heavy like Lillyjo said.
I have never been able to find Miss Dior to give it a sniff.
Le Parfum is quite different, a modern chypre, it didn’t stay long in production.
You smell great…that is a good one.
I get so confused with all the various iterations of Miss Dior, but I’m sure you smell lovely!
Hello dear twin. Ah, you had guessed we would both wear Le Parfum, well done, this is a wonderful modern chypre.
Happy FriYAY everyone! Today’s scent was a tough choice. Do I pick Ysatis (Grandmother), Creed’s Fleurs de Bulgarie (mother), Mariella Burani (Aunt Ruth Ann), Shalimar (Aunt Ruth), Ruffles by Oscar de la Renta (Aunt Mary). Tough choice when you have a family of perfume-lovers!
I decided on the original Fendi EdP, perfect for today’s crisp weather, it reminds me of my college years and my Grandmother loved it. She would always give me an extra squeeze when I was home visiting.
Yay Fendi!
I thought you might like that!
How wonderful. I had to look up Aunt Mary’s juice. Sounds lovely.
You smell so great!
And Ruffles! I went through a bottle.
Me too!
Fendi is glorious!
Every now and then I do a search for Ruffles and contemplate buying a mini, but still haven’t pulled the trigger. I remember it, but am not sure I remember what it smells like, so I’m curious to see if it’s what I recall – which is something along the lines of fancy lady cotton candy?
Honeyed tuberose with an amber dry down.
Impressive perfume family tree there! ???
Thanks! I always wandered into a perfume cloud wherever I went!
And holidays/birthdays were fun. Grandma got me started with Avon (Imari) and Estee Lauder (White Linen & Youth Dew) and dad’s mom (my Nana) wore Aliage (for tennis and golf) and Azuree in the summer for evening.
Funny how many childhood memories are marked with fragrances!
Elizabeth Arden Blue Grass is what my mom wore for going out, but otherwise perfume gave her headaches (she said). I remember her asking me to tone down my Wicked Wahine (back in junior high school days, early 1970s). But then I fell in love with Je Reviens and she didn’t mind that one. It was my signature for many years and always makes me think of the glamorous (to me) high school senior who wore it and introduced me to it.
However, today I’m non-compliant and in my sample of Gris Charnel. I don’t know what possessed me to buy a travel size of this one in the recent BeautyHabit $10 off $50 sale. It’s not my thing; I guess I just wanted it to be. Reminder to self: Just say no to panic buys!
Blue Grass is beautiful! I found a bottle of Wicked Wahini at a vintage stire, years ago and have never worn it. I liked the name.
Those coupons, sales, gwps, are all pretty tempting. GC might grow on you.
Mmmm, Blue Grass and Je Reviens . . . Seems like all my favorites are being talked about today.
Oh, those panic buys. Yeah, I’ve done the same and have a perfume panic regret as well.
haha– exactly!
Ohhh, I love Blue Grass!
My mom and I wore Wicked Wahine back in the 70’s too! :-). And I feel you on the failed panic buy.
SOTD = Chanel No.19 EDP
It reminds me of … ME!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CUw6HEXLp7g/?utm_medium=copy_link
In other news, viridiian gets an enabler pin as I ended up purchasing the ASUS Zenscreen monitor recommended. It was the same one recommended by an office mate and recommendations from 2 people who don’t know each other counts as 4 and that’s good enough for me. The only downside is the shipping date can be anywhere between Nov.15 and Dec.8. I suppose it’s caught up in shipping container / freight hell.
Lol! You are the cp winner!
Ha! Thank you!
I was wondering if you would do that.?
It was an easy choice. I was itching to wear 8 sprays and No.19 never bothered anyone.
No. 19 reminds me of you for sure. Great pick!
Thank you!
???!
BTW, how & where do you get your No. 19? Online, or in person?
I would count it as in-person since I’ve gotten it at the boutique, at Bergdorf in-person and through an SA I normally work with at Bergdorf.
I’m wearing Aedes de Venustas for the rhubarb note and my maternal grandmother. She grew rhubarb in her yard and used to make pies with it, sugared heavily because rhubarb is so tart. The rhubarb I can live without but I miss her pie crust terribly. So flaky.
nice.
Smelling GOOD today!
Yes…the flakiness is the deciding factor on a wonderful crust.
I don’t have many perfume associations with my family (or friends) as none of them really wears fragrance. But I know where my love for smells comes from and that is my grandmother’s house. She had a huge garden and vegetable patch in the countryside where she grew all kinds of plants. I would spend my summer childhood afternoons hopping around the garden and the nearby meadows looking at insects and smelling the plants. She had beautiful fragrant roses, but also lilacs, dahlias, honeysuckle, sunflowers, mint, tomatoes, peppers.. even the poppies had a smell, not flowery but green and sappy.
So for CP points, I am spraying Lustre Hiram Green which is a very realistic fragrant red rose ?
What are CP points? I have a bottle of HG Moonbloom- so wonderful but it turned rancid so fast on me. I’m sorry HG no longer offers the 10 mL travel sizes.
Same here! Glad I got the Slowdive while the going was good.
“getting CP points” just means that you are actually wearing something that coincides with the Community Project of the day. For instance, I am wearing Ummagumma because it reminds me of Deva. Alas, no actual points are given and no perfume is awarded at the end of the day.
I should add that the Community Project for today is found in Robin’s post at the beginning of the Scent of the Day comments, and a list of upcoming Community Projects is found in a link over on the right side of all the comments (at least it is on my screen). When I first fell down the rabbit hole it was the upcoming Community Projects that helped me decide what I would buy first.
Community project (read Robin’s post above). Fragrance theme on Fridays (it took me a while to get it too 🙂
What a shame about your Moon Bloom! Mine is still smelling ok after 3 years, but I need to spray in warm months as otherwise it is too indolic. Same thing with Dilettante. Both are white flower bombs and super concentrated.
What a lovely memory! I come from a family of gardeners too and that has definitely influenced my interest in fragrance.
What a bright, scented memory!
Real flowers are good for the soul. Your grandmother was a fun woman, I’ll bet she smelled good!
Yes, they are! x My grandmother is still with us an in her late 90ies! But sadly she can no longer look after her garden- for many years now- so she lives with my parents. She smells very good and still has plants at home 🙂
I don’t have family or friends who wear perfume, either. Honestly, I think my obsession was stoked as a pre-teen reading fashion magazines, falling for perfume ads, smelling scent strips, and wanting to be like the cool girls in middle and high school (who most definitely wore perfume – the hallways of my middle school had trails of Giorgio…)
I was also a total snoop, so I knew whose mothers wore what, even if I never smelled it on them ?
I know what you mean about gardening and scents, I have strong childhood memories of sniffing flowers, especially roses 🙂
I still sniff my way around gardens.
That garden of your grandmother’s sounds idyllic. Loving the mental picture I am getting from your post.
Wearing PHI Rose de Kandahar today. Forgot it was Friday and the community project today. Looking forward to having 2 days off.
You smell fantastic!!
Well, you get cp points anyway because PHI always reminds me of Deva because she loved it so much when it first came out! Enjoy your 2 days off!
SOTD: An Excess of Carelessness, which reminds me of Daisy Buchanan, The Great Gatsby, and F. Scott Fitzgerald!
Well played!
I’m wearing Tom Ford Bitter Peach- a free sample I got from Nordstrom. Not totally sure how I feel about it yet. It’s certainly unique and I do like it. But not sure if I love it. Many a future decant?
*maybe* not many. Sorry.
or maybe many!
Do you get prominent peach notes?
I tried it on a paper strip at Saks and it was peachy ?.
I am pretty sure I saw the 10ml travel size on Sephora.
Tendre Madeleine for cazaubon?
Nice.
This one also reminds me of elisa, our resident poet.
Aww, thank you. :-). I bought a bottle of Tocca Brigitte this summer to temind me of you. 🙂
Awww!!! You are so sweet, my friend!!! Both literally and figuratively ??
SOTD: I still whiff of Snow Fairy, and will apply Heavenly after. It reminds me of my parents, just because of the name and my father didn’t think it was awful.
You guys have been amazing to me and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I am going to an outdoor show the venue is small. Following every protocol known and will be tested. For a small space, the outdoors is the biggest part. Self-quarantine after. Am I doing the right thing or should I cancel?
I have been to a couple outdoor shows, and just situated myself on the outer edge of the crowd.
It’s really hard to know what is safe and what isn’t!
I am being as careful as I can be, and doing less than some people and more than others I am sure.
There are good hiding spots where you can still watch.
Thanks, Robin.
If it were me, I’d look into local conditions and make an assessment from there.
Agreed. Everyone’s tolerance for risk varies, but good to be aware.
Didn’t even think about that!
Thank you.
Outdoor venue is a point in favor of going. Maybe consider double masking? And Robin’s suggestion about staying on the edges/fringes of the crowd is an excellent one.
If you get there, and don’t feel comfortable, leave. It’s not worth messing with your peace of mind.
Great idea about double masking, I really don’t want to be disrespectful. Will follow Robin’s advice and kpaint’s.
You are absolutely right. Nothing is worth making other people sick.
Thanks so much.
What everyone said. Stay safe!
?
Thanks #19.
Outdoors and sit away from others if you can – should be okay. Enjoy!
?
Thanks, cazaubon, I really am hoping to!
Lots of good advice, here.
Am CP compliant in Coco—lotion and edp. My mother wore this perfume for several years, and then I did as a young woman. I’ve mentioned this here before, but my now husband bought me a bottle of this our first St. Valentine’s Day (which was amazing on several levels as 1. he was not a perfume person, 2. no one in his life wore Coco, 3. he was a broke academic at the time). I love the scent, and it always grounds me.
Perfect triple point choice 🙂
Well, no wonder you married him! 😉
Swoon!
A classmate in college wore Cristalle, one of my first non-drugstore perfume purchases, so wearing a spritz today.
It was one of my first too 🙂
I love and wore the heck out of Cristalle in H.S. (early 1980s)..
Vintage Coco which my brother-in-law gave me in the mid 1990’s. I wasn’t into perfume wearing much back then so I tucked it away. He passed away a short time after he gave the perfume. Sometime later, after my father”s passing, I fell down the rabbit hole. I have no idea why, but I pulled out that bottle and started wearing it. It brought me a great deal of comfort and warm memories of both men.
What a lovely memory! And wow, that vintage Coco is some mighty fierce juice!
Oh, how sweet & beautiful!
That’s wonderful. Fragrance is so special in the way it brings both comfort and memories.
I teared up a bit reading this.
Me, too.
How wonderful that you kept it and are now enjoying the perfume and the memories.
In Miss Dior le Parfum which reminds me of Lillyjo as she and I are the only ones to wear this. It is discontinued and prices have skyrocketed, alas, and my bottle is one third gone.
Hello twin!
We smell fabulous!
I was secretly hoping we would match today ?
You and lillyjo – mind meld!
Donatella.. I hath not sineth is a long time as you know but I foundeth a bottle of Carnal Flower oil for 82 bucks. And I know you also know I dnt even care for tuberose but the jasmine saves it..and white florals smell so nice on a rainy day like this one. Lol
Donatella forgives! ?
Mmm, I dream of the Carnal Flower oil!
Hermes Caleche, which I like to think is what my grandma would wear if she had been a person who wore perfume.
I love the strong soapiness of it.
You smell glorious- and what a way to honor your grandma!
I love the soapiness, too!
My grandmother was apparently a person who wore perfume – L’air du Temps – but I never smelled it on her. She always smelled strongly of makeup, or the Noxema she used to take it off.
Shortly before she died, I bought her a bottle of vintage (used) LdT, so it would smell like she remembered it (she’d stopped enjoying it due to reformulations.) I tried to explain what had happened with reformulations, and explained that she bottle was used but “vintage.” And told her that although she was in assisted living and rarely went out she should spray perfume on every day just to enjoy it.
I think she thought I was totally crazy (and perhaps did not appreciate a “used” gift.) I’m quite sure she never took a spray from the bottle (which I now have. )
But, hey, I tried! Lol
You obviously had the very best of intentions! My grandma smelled like Aqua-Net and Yardley English Lavender, at least one of my grandmas — I’m only just now realizing that I never got close enough to my other grandma to smell her, although I have very strong smell memories associated with her house, her kitchen, and the suffocating green humidity of south Louisiana.
Noxema is amazing stuff. Do you still have your bottle of LdT?
I do, but I don’t wear it.
Friday!
Am in Perfect Intense! Not the CP but it’s really key to the end of the week:
1) finished two cert trainings that I have been working on since March. Have the badge for one on LinkedIn and will have the other in a few weeks!
2) As soon as I finished and placed the badge on LinkedIN, I got 10 invites to apply for jobs – all of them have the various requirements that Hajusuuri instructed me on on creating the job search spreadsheet!
3) I am getting new eyeglasses today!
4) And I am going to go see the new Bond movie!
Congrats!
Congrats!
Congrats!
Congrats!
Have a great weekend and revel in your successes!
Thank you x 4!
This does not mean I stop learning- the adventure continues! But this will help me with that next step in my career!
Hope your weekend continues your great week. Congrats!
Super congratulations Ede!
Exciting times! I hope you land a job that fits you like a glove!
It really is exciting! I am VERY happy!
Congratulations to you!!
Yay! Amazing and congrats.
You are such a hard worker! Congrats on all that and enjoy the film!
Great news! Congrats and good luck!
Yay, congrats!
Congratulations!
You are super disciplined!
That was a lot of work. Hope you find a great job!
Hello everyone! All the scent memories are beautiful to read today. I am wearing a cloud of Dior Dolce Vita. It was my mother’s favourite perfume to give to me, because she loved how it smelled on me and I still have a couple of bottles from my teens (when it launched, I think). When I read about the Pierre Bourdon connection between SL Feminite du Bois and Dolce Vita, I went in pursuit of FdB (I had a fair few SLs at that point) and oh, my oldish bottle of FdB does smell very like my ancient bottles of DV. But I’m glad to be able to say that current Dolce Vita also smells good, so that is what I’m wearing today, from a massive 100ml bottle I bought earlier this year. My mother is a wonderful person. It’s lovely to be able to celebrate her generosity here (vintage Eau de Givenchy being her favourite perfume, and the relaunch is nothing like the original so that was not an option). To all of you with happy, and sad, and difficult memories of mothers or mother-figures today, I send you lots of love.
You smell wonderful, and that is an interesting comparison. Plus I always love to hear that current versions of perfumes are still good. Three cheers for perfume-loving Mothers.
Beautiful post. ?
Very touching post!
Aww, love this, and thank you for the love! It’s shocking to me how much I still miss and mourn my amazing mama. Grief is a very different beast than I ever thought it would be.
Lots of Mom remembrances here today. Definitely missing mine.
I’m happy to hear Dolce Vita still smells good. I used to wear it as well as Eau de Givenchy, which as you said is reformulated and not the same.
As a young teen, I loved Coty LOTV; my mom’s favorite was Emeraude and she sometimes wore L’Aimant; but I was unaware of the charms of L’Origan.
When I started HS, I became friends with Marian, who introduced me to her BFF, Judy, (they’d gone to grade school together but different HS’s). Judy was bubbly and effervescent, kind and unaware of how pretty she was. The 3 of us quickly became friends and we’d meet up after school and often take long walks in the neighborhood (we lived near each other and nobody had a car) and discuss all the things teenage girls discuss.
Judy always walked in a soft cloud of L’Origan, her signature scent, and I grew to love this fragrance and will forevermore associate it with Judy, my friendship with her and Marian, especially our long walks together and our dreams of the future. I’m wearing it today in their honor with a touch of sadness. We drifted apart after HS; I know Marian never married and passed away a number of years ago and I don’t know what happened to Judy, can’t even remember her last name. But through the power of scent that long-ago friendship lives on in my ❤️.
Wishing more happy remembrances all weekend!
What a lovely story.
Not a perfume comment this morning, but posting a bit late to say that I’ve just had my second Pfizer shot, and I’m sitting at the vaccination centre for the mandatory 15 minutes. I’m so pleased about this, it’s also a beautiful Saturday morning, so I’m in a very happy mood. There might be a celebratory perfume purchase coming up 🙂
Wonderful!
Huzzah!
Yay!
Wonderful news!
Yay and do buy yourself a celebratory perfume…or two! 😉
Do let us know how the celebratory perfume shopping turns out. 🙂
I am wearing VCA Bois d’Iris today, because it reminds me of you, Robin. I read about this in some discussion of iris perfumes you did, and your take on this scent inspired me to go looking for a sample somewhere, probably luckyscent, and then I bought the bottle. I divvy up my collection into classics and new perfumes, and this one while still in the “new perfume” category, is one of my favorite scents for fall…I hope everyone is having a serene and productive October, getting ready for winter…
I plan on a big salad with grilled steak, real Roquefort cheese made from sheep’s milk, and my special homemade garlic lemon vinaigrette, for dinner tonight, with some good pinot, and Bois d’Iris will be there hovering in the air throughout the evening. I believe there is a new episode of Ted Lasso in the queue as well. Simple silly pleasures…
Ahh, you smell lovely and your dinner sounds divine!
That dinner sounds fabulous! Drool!
Third-ing the droolings — that sounds so good! I love pairing lemony vinaigrette with steak, and am just reminded of a beloved pre-motherhood dinner that I haven’t made for myself in too long, that I call “Tuscan bachelorette steak salad.” Garlicky grilled steak sliced warmly over cool arugula-and-chicory-heavy mixed greens, with the meat juices droozled over the greens and a lemon and parsley vinaigrette droozled over it all, plus shaved parmesan. And garlic toasts. And wine.
Ted Lasso and I have a date after dinner tonight…
That sounds pretty wonderful, too.
Happy Friday all. I’m im Chanel No. 19 edt from a vintage bottle; I went all in with 12 sprays including my shirt.
It reminds me of my sister when as kids we’d steal sprays (and giggle) from our mom’s bottle. It also reminds me of my mom because without her it wouldn’t have led to my love of perfume. She had different scents on her dresser but No. 19 made me take notice way back then.
Woop! I haven’t worn the EDT in a good long while but I know you smell great!
Thank you ?. Sometimes you gotta go big!
Vintage No. 19 EdT! Nice!
Thank you, Jalapeno.
More sun today here than yesterday, so the cats and I are happy. Spooky spent part of the afternoon sunbathing in the bay window… ??
SOTD = Oriza L. Legrand Chypre Mousse, from the sample/decant stash. This reminds me of Deva, who christened it “Eau de Crypt”, and generously sent me the decant that I am wearing today. I find it a challenging scent. Not getting any crypt, though. I am smelling like a café in Belle Epoque Paris with more than a hint of absinthe!
I love Chypre Mousse!
It would be a good pick for Halloween, wouldn’t it? ????
You know I have a sample of Chypre Mousse, I’ve been afraid to try because of the nickname. Maybe I will give it a go.
It smells like bitter greens, wet forest floor and a bit of aromatic chestnut honey on my skin with a hint of mushrooms. Great for fall
I’d forgotten about the CP until I started reading posts earlier today, which jogged a memory.
My mother has never been a perfumer wearer. When I was a young child in the 70s, she was a hippie who ground her own wheat to make bread, fed us carob treats, eschewed Skippy peanut butter in favor of the health food store’s unsalted freshly ground, cooked wheat berry casseroles for dinner, and sewed all our clothes.
Her oldest sister was quite the opposite. She wore and loved makeup and perfume (though there’s no perfume I specifically remember smelling on her, and she doesn’t remember what she wore), was friends with Avon ladies (fancy!), took me and my sister to get our ears pierced, and to plays and Chinese restaurants in the big city.
The only perfumes in our house were gifts from her – Ysatis and Flora Danica. Ysatis was a gift for my mom, but I was the only one who wore it. Flora Danica was for my sister, and ditto on that bottle, too.
She was always trying to get my mom to buy me and my sister perfume. She just couldn’t understand why she wouldn’t buy us a bottle of Sweet Honesty from the Avon lady, and I remember her storming into our house one day and proclaiming that we girls absolutely needed a bottle of DVF Tatiana!
When I was in high school and old enough to buy perfume with my own money, I remember her telling me that Fendi was too old for me. (She was right!)
When I fell down the rabbit hole, the first perfumes I bought were all those bottles I envied and longed for as an adolescent and teen. Among them was a bottle of Tatiana, which I never did get a sniff of until I picked up a vintage mini – which is what I’m wearing today.
Said aunt doesn’t wear much perfume today but I gave her a Teo Cabanel sample set some years ago and she loves Lace Garden, which, duh, I should obviously buy her a bottle of.
It looks like Cabanel has stopped producing the 50 ml bottles, yes? And has anyone bought from another stockist, or just direct from the Cabanel website?
Love these memories! It sounds like both your mother and your aunt provided for you in ways that nourished different parts of your character.
Love this!
Great story! And I love Tatiana. All I have now is the bath oil, but it smells wonderful.
Cool aunts are the best!
I asked Teo Cabanel if they had a north american stockist and they said no, so you have to order direct from them, unfortunately.
Thank you!
I’m wearing Lubin Grisette in honor of our own Vee, who enabled both my sampling of it and my soon-thereafter FB purchase not too long ago.
Awww, thank you! I’m doing my darnedest to be the johnny appleseed of Grisette and it makes me so happy that you like it.
Anyone remember the name and maker of a perfume from several years ago with a cult following that had that really distinctive Play-Doh note???
I can think of two, but I’m guessing you are thinking of People of the Labyrinths (POTL) – Luctor et Emergo. Jacome Art Collection 02 also has a Play-doh note.
I think of you with POTL.?
Aw, nice! ♥
POTL would be my guess.
That should be Jacomo, not Jacome.
Argh – and that was for Gian’s question above.
I had a strange day. Went to see a chiropractor for the first time and everyone in the office was unmasked. They also had strange anti-mask “research” posted on the wall I noticed. I sat for a minute…digested all the signs and left without being seen.?? Felt like I was in the Twilight Zone. A good reminder…to thine own self be true.
I wore no fragrance today but my Aunt Dorothy loved perfume and anything with patchouli reminds me of her. She had a 3 tiered mirror vanity stand w/ various perfumes I used to pour over as a child…distinctly remember a frosted apple shaped bottle and fragrance from Avon among others…happy memories. ??
Trusting your gut is usually the best way to go.
Yeeek! I would have absolutely bailed on that chiropractor, too. I wouldn’t have been comfortable there.
Wearing My Sin from the freebie meet. Also in a spritz of Opium Fleur de Shanghai in salute to Elisa P. We miss you, ladybug!
I wish she would pop in.
My Sin! I currently have a bottle in my stash; I also had and went through a bottle a long time ago.
Hope that Elisa P is doing well.
Hey I just saw that Demachy was retiring and Dior is having Francis K step in. ( not going to attempt that spelling on my own) not sure if everyone but me already knows this.
I definitely did not know that. Thanks!
It’s news to me, too!
Also did not know this. Good intel.
Saw that on FB, hoping he will bring back Eau Noire (which he created). 🙂
I didn’t know that either. Thanks for the update!
Happy friday all. It’s late and I’m too tired to comment on many posts, but I just want to say I loved reading about all the scent memories today. There’s so much love and positivity and generosity here today, even more so than usual. What a great CP!
I wore Shalimar EDT today, it was calling out to me on this decidedly Fall day. The biggest surprise is that I’ve never encountered anyone who wears this around me, so it’s my very own! I have to say, in general, Shalimar makes me think of fellow fragrance-lovers and therefore NST as a whole. Very nice company to keep!
Shalimar does get quite a lot of love here. 🙂
Shalimar Day was my favorite CP ever ?
Missed this CP because I took the day off for a weekend visit with a good friend who lives in DC. Hadn’t seen her since December 2019 because of COIVD and we are pretty sure that is the longest we have ever gone.
I would have worn Crabtree & Evelyn’s Spring Rain for a friend from middle & high school. We were gaga over C&E bath products (early bath bombs, those bath oil beads which I don’t see around any more but were awesome, etc.). At some point we each saved up to buy a C&E perfume. I got Summer Hill and she got Spring Rain. We drifted apart during college, but a few years ago I was at a C&E store and spur of the moment bought myself a bottle of SR to remind me of her. I’m so glad I did because it seems all of those perfumes are now discontinued.
