Happy Friday and happy International Country Music Day (which falls on Hank Williams' birthday, course). Our community project for today: name a favorite country music song and wear a fragrance to match.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
My song is the Jimmy Webb classic Wichita Lineman, written in 1968 for Glen Campbell. I've matched it with (vintage) Sonoma Scent Studio Incense Pure.
Reminder: 9/24 is the birth date of Jim Henson and F. Scott Fitzgerald. Wear whatever fits for whatever reason — scent a muppet or a Fitzgerald character, maybe?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Below, Glen Campbell doing Wichita Lineman. (Also, James Taylor, Freedy Johnston, REM, Ray Charles, Johnny Cash, Black Pumas)

Pairing Botrytis with “Lucille” by Kenny Rogers.
Love Botrytis — you smell marvelous! Another of those “I wish I would have bought a bottle when I had the chance” items.
Me, too. And despite someone’s (LuckyScent??) saying they thought it would come back, it hasn’t.
It’s my one and only swap regret 🙁
I feel your pain. If it ever comes back, we’re gonna do a massive split!
I actually *did* do a split – it was my first split, and I managed to drench myself and my entire bedroom with it in the process. I never wanted to smell it again after that – until I swapped it. But I kept a 10 ml decant (which is almost gone) and fell back in love with it. *sigh*
I didn’t know it was discontinued 🙁
Friday YAY!
got flu shot yesterday, arm hurt all night.
no country songs or fragrance. Well, maybe Crazy by Patsy Cline but only if its Jessica Lange portraying her.
SOTD is Memo French Leather.
Oh yeah, Jessica Lange is perfect to portray Patsy Cline!
Crazy is another good one
I also love Walking after Midnight
Walking After Midnight is my favorite!
Last year’s flu shot hurt like a mofo, too. Mine’s scheduled for next week.
According to an epidemiologist on the Ezra Klein podcast, those skipping flu shots this year have higher risk of death than do those of us vaccinated against C19. Just to put things in perspective.
I had heard the same. I always time it carefully because of my immune compromised status. Too early, and it’s not good either. I always aim for mid-October so the majority of the winter season is covered.
Last year, after consulting with my transplant team at UCSF, I opted to get my pneumonia (pneumovax23) vaccine before the age of 55, due to COVID.
I might have to travel, ST so I got mine now. I know its a tad early.
I will get my pneumovax23 in two weeks. over 65 and had pneumonia three times. Once I actually broke three ribs.
Oof 🙁
Ouch!
When I was in my 20s, I used to laugh at people (I admit it, I was a little brat) who threw their back out sneezing until I did it.
That is no laughing matter! Holy cow, it was SO painful!
Kpaint, I don’t understand that statement…you mean skipping a flu shot is more dangerous than skipping a C19 vaccine?
Or you mean even if you’re already vaccinated for C19, skipping the flu shot gives you the same chance of death from flu that you had from death via C19?
I am NOT arguing against a flu shot for anybody, but I don’t see how they could know either of those things, yet. And it must depend on age and other risk factors.
If you remember the name of the epidemiologist I would love to look this up!
Neither. I’ll just link it: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/06/opinion/ezra-klein-podcast-celine-gounder.html
Okay, I’ll try again:
If you are a person who is vaccinated against covid, but not vaccinated against the flu, your risk of death from flu is higher than your risk of death from covid.
It’s a broad, statistical view and as I read it (or heard it) more a statement about the efficacy of the covid vax. But – populations at risk of serious illness and death from flu tend to be the same population at risk from covid, so there’s already overlap there.
Huge thanks! I get it now and will read the article later this weekend.
Good pairing!
I am *really* not a country-music person (and my parents listened to a whole lot of country and bluegrass while I was growing up so it’s not just some knee-jerk thing), but there are two songs that I like: Dolly Parton’s “Jolene”, an actual masterpiece of songwriting, and Kacey Musgraves’ somewhat more recent “Follow Your Arrow”, a bright, shiny wind-up toy of a song. So I figured, well, what’s the brightest, shiniest thing I own? And so this morning I am wearing Clinique Wrappings, a supernova in a bottle.
You smell marvelous! Wrappings is so perfect, and a favorite!
And the Christmas shopping season is looming, which means Clinique will surely have that Wrappings gift set they do every year, with the perfume spray and the body lotion.
Yep! Right around the corner!
I sometimes wait for after the Holidays and purchase it at a steep discount….
I like the thought process 🙂
Oooooh, Wrappings is SO good!
Total CP fail, but Gin Fizz today. Thunking some summery samples while we’re still in transition.
You definitely get a CP point! Loretta Lynn sings about gin fizz (well, sloe gin fizz but close enough) in “Portland, Oregon”.
Oh totally. I knew that. Winning big this week. ?
Hehe
I’m wearing CdG Rouge, from a new decant. It’s a good transitional fragrance, not too heavy for the current temps. I suppose it fits “Jolene” by Dolly Parton, with the “flaming locks of auburn hair” Anyway, I wanted to try it and that was the only song I could think of to fit.
Maybe “Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love to Town,” by Kenny Rogers and the First Edition?

Perfect!
Frangipani by Lili Bermuda
Song by Patsy Cline
https://youtu.be/owNATIdymvs
My youngest is home with me today with a runny nose. We live during these times when kids have a basic cold you have to keep them home. I would have to be overheating in bed of a fever before my parents kept me home when I was young. Those were different times. He has lots of energy and the weather is not so good, so we will cuddle up and watch some Disney movies.
Oh, I love that song! I really just love Patsy ?
Hope your baby is feeling better soon.
Snuggles and Disney movies—what a great day! Hope he feels better soon.
I hope your little one feels better soon!
For Patsy Cline singing Sweet Dreams (of you), Angel Muse. The way her voice breaks gives me chills, it’s so heartfelt. Angel Muse is a snuggly choice for mending a broken heart.
Sweet Dreams is a beautiful song!
I find her music so melancholy and haunting that’s it too difficult for me to listen to anymore. Smelling gorgeous in your Angel Muse. Hope your energy level has returned today.
Morning all, SOTD is Rain by Terra Nova.
Country song to match is “Like The Rain” by Clint Black.
https://youtu.be/Vnm0qISnNUE
Headed off to the gym, some good news to report – I’ve lost six pounds. Hoping to lose another 10! Eliminating snacks and rigorous attention to portion sizes (I weigh portions and log it into My Fitness Pal) definitely helped!
Happy FriYAY all!
Congratulations on the weight loss! And your Rain theme is perfect for where I am today, as the heavens have opened up and it’s apparently going to be a monsoon for the next four days straight.
Well done you! Good luck with upgrading workout!
oh wow! your amazing
Thanks! I also tweaked my workout a little, adding two days of cardio/full-body circuit training.
M/W/F – three days of body part dedicated training (chest/triceps, back/biceps, legs/glutes).
I dialed down the heavy stair master cardio, realizing that it was impacting my recovery in a negative way.
I do 10 minutes of intervals, and walk three miles daily instead.
Nice, congrats!
Wow! Nicely done! That’s a testament to all the hard work you have put in towards your goal.
L’heure bleue for Neko Case, “The Pharaohs.” My spouse’s favourite Neko Case song…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzX8btHwJDs
Also works because I finished a biography of Cleopatra — the last pharaoh — last night.
Which author was that book? I read one awhile back by an Italian author.
I am reading a graphic novel to my daughter called Cleopatra in space-its the young princess gets transported into the future and has to save the world.
It’s Stacy Schiff. I think she’s written a number of biographies of more recent figures, one of which may have won a Pulitzer Prize?
That graphic novel sounds fun!
greats song by the way..haven’t heard of this singer
May I also recommend her song Star Witness:

The most beautiful, special person, passed yesterday while I was by her side. My beautiful aunt in Alabama- the one I always bought the No. 5 lotion for (she always wore No. 5). I’ve been by her side for two weeks under hospice care. It’s been the hardest, most traumatic thing I’ve ever done watching her dwindle and die but I wouldn’t change this time for anything.
She was a beautiful and glamorous southern lady and I got all my “fancy” from her. She adored George Strait, called him her “boyfriend” haha. So today and all the weekend I will wearing her No. 5 lotion paired with L’Eau. Today I will be pairing it with George Strait’s Carrying Your Love With Me”.
https://youtu.be/jH4YI1faPwU
I’m so sorry, Kelly! I hope no.5 brings back your happiest memories of her. She sounds like a legend herself.
Kelly, my deepest condolences. I spent most of the last few months of my brother in law’s life with him as he passed similarly. While it’s been nearly 2 years, his memorial is 2 weeks from now as it had to be postponed. It’s bringing up a lot of grief and trauma for me (and others, to be sure.) May your aunt rest in peace, and may you have some solace.
I am so sorry KellyC
I will wear some No5 in her honor this weekend.
Thank you so much, LTSG!
What a lovely tribute to her. So sorry for your loss.
I’m so sorry to hear that, but I’m glad you got to spend the time with her, and have such fond memories.
I’m so sorry, KellyC! Hugs to you.
I am glad for the time you were able to spend with her but I am so sorry for your loss! May her memory be for a blessing.
Based on your photos, she also had impeccable taste in a red lippie. My condolences.
She did!!! And I also got my love of a dramatic lip from her!
So sorry for your loss, KellyC. I know where your glamor comes from.
I am sorry about your aunt, KellyC. Sending you virtual, fragrant hugs if you want them.
Aww, sending you lots of hugs. May her memory be a blessing.
I am very sorry for your loss KellyC.
I am so sorry for your loss.
What a lovely post and tribute to your aunt. I’m so sorry for your loss, but glad you could be there.
I’m so sorry, Kelly; your Aunt sounds like such an amazing person. I’m glad you were able to spend such special time with her. Sending you hugs.
I am so sorry KellyC. Sending comforting hugs.
Condolences KellyC, she sounds like she fits your description of beautiful and special. Really glad you were able to be with her at the end.
I am so sorry Kelly. I have been with both parents at hospice. There is a special place in heaven for hospice workers.
Being fully present with someone you love and who loved you in return is the greatest gift.
I will wear Chanel tomorrow for you Aunt. sending hugs.
I’m so sorry for your loss KellyC. I sat vigil with my mom when she was in hospice care, and it is filled with difficulty yet some grace. Sounds strange, but I think you know. Gentle hugs to you as you grieve.
My condolence and thank you for sharing your memories!
My deepest condolences to you and thank you for that sweet remembrance of your aunt. What a wonderful gift you gave her at the end! ???
I’m so sorry for your loss KellyC. I’m glad you could be by her side. That is so hard, but also such a blessing to be able to say goodbye to someone you’ve loved so dearly. What a lovely tribute that you will wear her no. 5 in her honor. May it always remind you of her.❤️
My deepest sympathies on the passing of your dear, sweet aunt. Watching a loved one go thru hospice is brutal. But I’m glad that you were able to be there with her.
KellyC, I’m so sorry for the loss of your aunt. I hope the scent of No 5 will in future bring you more comfort than sadness.
So sorry for the loss of your aunt, KellyC. She sounds like a real Southern Lady.
KellyC, I am so sorry for your loss. It must have been a brutal few weeks for you. Please be gentle to yourself. Sending you big hugs.
My heart goes out to you Kelly.. your Aunt sounds like she was a very special lady.
Glad your’e enjoying no.5 lotion and L’eau in her memory and honour.
So very sorry for your loss, KellyC. Great big hugs to you and your family.
Thunked Vanille Insensee (7.5mL) today! Happy to have used it, happy it’s gone.
Echoing someone earlier this week (I think it was Deva?), metal is in my soul, and I know almost nothing about country. However, the mashup below blends the two beautifully, and I like it better than either of the originals. Watch if you dare…Enjoy!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGdrRD4Dq6M
Loved it! Have never seen that video before. It does remind me a bit, style-wise, of Disturbed’s cover of the Simon and Garfunkel great “Sound of Silence.” That one is the rare occasion when I think the cover is better than the original. Just fabulously done and so timeless. ?? Rock on!
https://youtu.be/u9Dg-g7t2l4
I’ve heard the Disturbed cover on a Sirius XM channel a few times. I rather liked it.
Great pick, thanks missionista!
I don’t have the blues, and the leather might not be from mules, but here’s Dolly singing it while I’m in Cuir de Lancome.
https://youtu.be/Fwc1FkkWulc
Go Dolly 🙂
Excellent!!
Iv been chopping and changing perfume every couple of hours. Very restless since iv lost my pup. Weird symptom, I guess!
Right now in what is most appealing to me – EL’s Azuree. The cigarette ash and leather might go with some Kris Kristofferson, perhaps Sunday Morning Coming Down. I actually love everything g by him!
Sorry for the loss of your pup, Merlin.
I’m sorry about your pup, Merlin. The restlessness makes sense to me. Sending you hugs if you want them.
I’m so sorry abou5 the loss of your dog. ((hugs))
Thank you so much Hajusuuri, Vee and Cazaubon! I’m absolutely taking all your hugs! Rufie was adored from 7 months, when I first set eyes on him – to 14 years old when he took his last breath in my arms. A totally devoted, pupster. Will be remembered forever!
? So sorry about your pupster! What a wonderful life and tons of love you gave him. T-Rex and I send our condolences.
It’s a hard time, missing your pup, but so wonderful how much he was loved. Hugs from me, too.
I am sorry about your pup, Merlin. Hugs!
I am sorry your buddy is gone. hugs to you, Merlin.
Everyone thank you so so much – I’m really pilfering sympathy here as this is the second time I’v mentioned the loss! It feels like I’m getting twice as much as I am rightly entitled to… :p Love to all of us who have lost our 4 footed guardian angels on the way!
I am so sorry about the loss of your beloved pup. 14 years is a long time and a lot of lovin’. My hugs to you, too. ???
Lot of love given and received – hugs to you too Laila!
Being restless because you are missing a loved one is understandable. The fact that your loved one had 4 legs doesn’t lessen the hurt.
You are right – and I guess spraying a different scent every 15 minutes isn’t the worst coping method. The other day I discovered some natural vanilla incense and it was surprisingly soothing.
Merlin, so sorry for the loss of your companion of 14 years. There’s a lot to be missed there, and I know that restless feeling.
And you’re right- changing perfumes every 15 minutes is not the worst you can do!
Love your song pick.
I’m sorry about the loss of your dog. It sounds like you had a great life together.
Thanks AnnE, It does seem like Kris Kristoferson is not as popular as I think he should be. I love his song ‘Why Me’ as well, even though I’m neither religious nor have Christian origins – it’s just wonderful!
Sistine we definitely did: a true love affair – with none of the drama and all of the intensity 😀
So sorry you’ve lost your dear dog Merlin- sending you hugs too.
Thanks Mayfly! All hugs much welcomed.
That photo is a frequent view for me. I love it ?
In a teeny tiny spritz of Taklamakan today because I’m not feeling great. Got nothing done yesterday because I spent all day in the ER. Again. I have to go pick up T-Rex after coffee and then see what I can manage to get done today. It’s gray and drizzly and I really just want to go back to bed. ?
Feel better Deva. You smell wonderful. I cannot wait for cooler weather so I can wear Taklamakan again.
Thank you! I’m not sure where you’re at, but I’m sending cool breezy days and chilly evenings to you!
Oh oh. I hope your recovery goes better.
I’m recovered, but the problem isn’t fixed. That’s the problem. ?
Yikes! Well, I hope a remedy that works is found soon!
It’s called surgery, and they’re not doing it here because of the current covid situation in the PNW. ?
Ugh, sorry you’re not feeling well. Sending healing vibes!
Thanks! I don’t do “sick” very well at all! ?
Sending you get well wishes.
Are you out of the stinky town yet?
It’s such a long story I can’t even stand it.? By hook or by crook, I’m blowing this pop-stand later today or tomorrow morning! ??
Be well, Deva.
Thank you, apsara!
LOL – you blow that pop stand! One of my favorite co-workers ever used to say that at our quitting time!
That’s the worst: when you are meant to be better but are not… Hope you feel well soon!
Thank you!
For those interested in the C19 booster, here’s a short video with the latest info:
https://youtu.be/ZHLkIY4c80Y
I’m so sorry to hear you’re not well; sending healing thoughts and positive energies your way to feel better soon. ?
Thanks. Feeling cantankerous but I managed to go to Ulta and spend some money on things I don’t need, so apparently not at death’s doorstep yet. ?
Loved this comment 🙂
And really hope you get good rest, and get fixed, and all good things.
Lol! I should be living forever!
? Keeping a sense of humor is the best way to feel better, right, Deva?
Bummed to hear that you aren’t feeling right.
I hope you feel better, and that the opportunity for surgery opens up soon!
TGIF!
So glad another week is done!
This song I think is not exactly country but the album is classified as country so I guess it still counts?
Its beautiful Shania Twain’s From This Moment On. My scent to go with it is EL’s Beautiful.
Seems like everybody is posting a link…
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=a-Lp2uC_1lg
I love Shania Twain <3
I’m pairing Zac Brown Band’s “Colder Weather” with Organza Indecence, which I only trot out in, you guessed it, colder weather. I’m not a huge country fan, but this is a beautiful song.
Happy Friday, everyone!
You smell great irisjasmine!
That song is a modern Gentle on My Mind 🙂
Putting selfish behavior to beautiful music is a time-honored tradition! ?
You smell great, wonderful pairing! I, too, am another one who only ‘trots’ out OI – one of my top 5 – in colder weather.
Soon it won’t be too hot to trot it out regularly!
Friday at last! Wearing Boucheron Vanille de Zanzibar and trying to decide…keep or cull? People on Fragrantica find it similar to Vanille 44 but I prefer it over that…I find Vanille 44 overrated. I have sold 9 bottles on evilBay in the past few months and it’s quite liberating. ??
PSA for Ulta code INSPIRED20 for 20% off one item includes prestige fragrance…strangely there is both the desire to grow and reduce the collection at the same time…go figure!?
It’s all about the Feng Sui – clear the decks to make room for more 😉
I’ve thought so many times about selling on ebay but find the idea really intimidating.
I’ve also thought about selling some clothes & shoes on Poshmark. Does anyone have any experience doing this? I’ve got a bunch of barely used but pricey-ish stuff to unload and am wondering if I’d get a better return there than at a local consignment shop. Plus, at 5’10” with size 10 feet, my goods have a rather narrow market.
eBay is intimidating to me too, kpaint. I’ve heard horror stories of buyers trying to return perfumes when they clearly have no basis. I just don’t have the nerve to sell there.
Yes, that’s exactly my fear. The PITA buyers makin’ trouble.
This just happened to me.. motive “I just didn’t like it”… I should have known, as the buyer was asking millions of questions about batches and decided to buy “just to see how this one smells”; apparently you can refuse a return but eBay really tricks you into accepting with a weird and confusing screen… and then there’s no way back. Just a waste of time and quite annoying.
A coupon code before I have paid the bills might be dangerous! Good thing I am at work.
I know that feeling exactly!
One foot on the Perfume Brake, and the other foot on the Gas. Yep, I know that feeling.
Yes! Why can’t we just cruise w/ our feet off the pedals? ??♀️
In real life,I am a firm believer in coasting while driving…with no foot on the gas or break especially on the freeway. But for fragrance, that is simply not the case!?
Sotd is Femme in homage to Janis Joplin and her earth shattering rendition of Kris Kristofferson’s Me and Bobbi McGee.
And what a Femme she was – hitting all of the notes – warm spicy, fruity, earthy and definitely leather.
love Janis!
Love that song 🙂
Me too!
Mr. Allo’s cousin is the mayor of Salinas, CA and whenever I see her she has to tolerate me singing “Somewhere near Salinas, Lord I let her slip away…” and on and on.
LOL. I’m sure she appreciates it.
So many good pairings here today!
Ms. Joplin was a one of a kind talent.
I’m in Shalimar Philtre again and still loving it.
Here’s my song for today: Let Your Loss Be Your Lesson, sung by Alison Krauss (from the Raising Sand album with Robert Plant). Not exactly country, but that’s the best I could do ?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKqERfuNlX8
Oohh… will definitely watch this later!
Close enough, and love their albums 🙂
I love that album! You know they pressed repeat and are doing a second one? Not sure if it’s out yet or not, but I know it’s coming. Can wait for it.?
Yes, I’d heard about their new album. It’s titled ‘Raise the Roof’, produced again by T-Bone Burnett, to be released on November 19th. Looking forward to it.
I watched Dr. Prasad’s video you posted above ( I have heard him discuss this and other Covid related topics on ZDoggMD’s channel ) and he makes some very good points. We shall see…
Oh, thanks for the release date info. I really think both of them are so incredibly talented. And T-Bone Burnett, well, just a legend!
Oh, and glad you enjoyed VP! I feel like he is a real Truth Chaser. Although some of his Plenary Session materials/discussions are over my head, I really enjoy his objective approach to everything, including his own personal biases. We need more like him.
Ooh, I hadn’t heard that! Thanks for the heads up!
I listened to Your Long Journey a lot after my dad and brother in law died four months apart.
We listened to Little by Little, Bit by Bit a lot the first year.
That song really helped my sister – repeating I can breathe again.
Boy oh boy, music and fragrance and the way the light slants or the taste of peach can really bring it all to the front.
Very true, Apsara.
Wearing the un-country, but cozy SL 5 o’clock au gingembre, during a deluge. File it under “Don’t Fence Me In”, perhaps
You smell absolutely wonderful!
That was my SOTD yesterday, and I found a country song hit called “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere”, which pretty much summed up my attitude this week. So glad it’s Friday!
I’m in Azemour les Orangers and am pairing it with Dolly’s 1970s crossover hit ‘Here You Come Again,’ which to my pre-teen ears was just the most romantic, heartfelt appeal to ever tinkle out of my little radio speaker. I still get chills and flashes of old crushes when I hear it.
That song is so brilliant, and I’m sure you’re lookin’ better than a body has a right to 😉 Nice match!
Well, I do smell better, at least 😉
Wearing LPRN Black Perfecto EdT, which I think fits “She’s Not the Cheatin’ Kind” by Brooks & Dunn.
Boat ride was fun yesterday. Nicely scenic, sunny and we got splashed a bit from some chop. Fresh water, so no biggie. And dinner was great. Everything we had was delicious. My husband and I are going back in late October for their final night “feast”, which is a flat-rate, all-you-can eat dim-sum style offering. It’ll be our anniversary dinner.
You smell wonderful! Off to check out your video.
SOTD = Le Lion de Chanel
Mmmm good!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CT6z_XIr5Tf/?utm_medium=copy_link
I am pairing it with Contemporary Christian music and since it has 2 Cs, I am giving myself 2 points ?.
Starting this coming Monday and all the way through to end of October, I am taking Mondays off as I have too many days off. We’re only allowed to carry over 5 days so I am using as many days as I can without jeopardizing program implementation activities while handling business as usual.
Heh! I forgot to mention the title of the song – The Lion and the Lamb
? Maybe it’s 3 points for me since the title of the song includes a word in the name of my SOTD. OK – done! 3 points it is!
Add another point for smelling so fabulous!
Thank you!
So off Mondays and out early on Fridays? Sounds perfect! 🙂
This week felt long because I worked all 5 days and today’s summer hours was just 30 minutes earlier…will do better next week!
RAWR! ? Way to work with your PTO dilemma.
LOL. I have to use more faster. I may take the last 2 weeks of December off but still have more days left than I can carryover.
Wichita Lineman, wow, haven’t thought about that song in a long time. Incredibly beautiful and haunting music. I think I last heard it when it was used for an opening scene from one of the episodes of the Netflix show Ozark.
SOTD: Rose 31
I find a lot of Glen Campbell’s songs beautiful, but Wichita Lineman is especially so.
That song is one of the most achingly romantic that I can think of.
Wichita Lineman is such a beautiful song, so so gorgeous.
Wearing 4160 Tuesdays Complicated Shadows. Not really familiar with country music but love Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt singing together on Trio in 1987.
Nice – I just saw you also referenced Dolly, Emmylou and Linda. What a trio on Trio.
I’m not huge into country music except for Johnny Cash, so for my man in black, today I’m in CdG Black. I get incense, a pleasant amount of leather, a nice sharp birch, brightness from the pepper, and complex sweetness from the licorice and frankincense. Overall I don’t find it as complex as the Incense series, but it is very much in that vein. Kind of like last night’s campfire smoke still lingering in the woods on a cool morning while you sip licorice tea.
I’m not big on licorice tea tho, so I’m sipping on a pot of irish breakfast this morning.
I actually get much more wear from Black than the incense perfumes. I just find it more satisfying somehow. I spray some of the incense ones on and I’m ready for something else an hour later! I even like sleeping in Black!
Huh. I feel the same way about the incense series. Haven’t tried Black.
Yeah, it’s taken me FAR too many years to appreciate wear-ability and overall satisfying-ness in perfumes. Neither seems like a very artistic trait – but pursuing the strange and the sublime has lead to too many bottles I have hardly made a dent in.
Ring of Fire – love Johnny Cash.
Also a Johnny Cash fan here!
I haven’t quite decided what extra bit of fun I will slip into the weekend while Mr. Jalapeno is away fishing. I might make myself some pancakes for breakfast; it’s been ages since I’ve had some.
Here too! Listened to his live album from Folsom Prison, the atmosphere and music was incredible, wonderful stuff..
FriYAY! I’m wearing Hilde Soliani Untitled No. 7 a citrus/sandalwood/vanilla. Very nice. And pairing it with The Sweetest Gift (Dolly, Emmylou and Linda).
Funny story – although I am not a huge candle person (I have a couple and want a couple, but I buy one only once in a while), I dreamed about candles last night. In particular, candles with wicks that were spitting and sparking, and I think it was from the comments yesterday about the Daily Lemming: Otherland candles (and being sure to pay attention to the wicks). How funny our minds are–I don’t remember thinking about candles after I read the Daily Lemming, but there it was in my dream!
That is funny!
Yay for Dolly, Emmylou and Linda. 🙂
I’m wearing L’Artisan Mon Numero 10, for no good reason, and now I’m remembering that after the first 15 minutes, I don’t love it. I keep lots of these bottles around, thinking that maybe someday I’ll change my mind, and feeling kind of disappointed when I try them again, and they still don’t fit. I think I do this partially in fear of that thing that happens when I purge any items (not just perfume) — three days later I find that I really do need that extra olive oil bottle spout.
Ha – I know those feelings–both the disappointment and the fear of purging.
Honestly, I’ve got enough perfume that I love that I really, really, really — I mean really — do not need to cling to bottles of scent that I don’t. And yet. Hope springs.
I am the opposite and love a good purge (of all things.)
I’ve also discovered that I amassed a huge number of bottles that I just didn’t or don’t need, and have finally had to admit to myself that I almost never need more than 5 ml of any given thing, as once I’ve gone through a full 5 ml, I’m ready to move on.
Even with my big loves that I look forward to with the change of seasons, I should no longer be surprised that that perfume I LOVED last winter isn’t really what I’m feeling this winter.
So I’ve adjusted up how and what I buy, as practicality is more eternal for me than hope 😉
Tried Bandit parfum AGAIN last night. Again wondered WHY while I was trying to fall asleep. This will be repeated in some months. I just CANNOT understand why Bandit doesn’t work for me. Plus that parfum bottle is SO pretty.
Chypres are hard for me, as are big white florals, so both Bandit and Fracas are banned from my no-fly zone. 🙂
I supposed “banned from my no fly zone” is kinda redundant. Why don’t I ever catch that stuff before I hit the post button?
Lol, Lisa D. I’ve had that same though many, many times.
The ultimate evil of a mixed metaphor! lol. Yeah – the thing is that I LOVE certain chypres. And I LOVE every description of Bandit – but I cannot love the scent. And the same goes (don’t beat me) for Cuir Russe and Knize 10
Hi there, house twin!
LOL, I do the same thing – hang on to something for years, then right after you get rid of it you need/want it again. I’ve pretty much given in to my hoarding instinct now.
Lots of rain coming tonight and this weekend and I can’t wait. One of my favorite things is to lie in bed, snug and warm, and listen to the rain falling outside. It was such a dry summer the plants are sorely in need of a big drink, too. Plus it will help put out the fires.
I paired Impossible Iris with Nanci Griffith singing John Prine’s “Speed of the Sound of Loneliness.” Iris notes strike me as lonely, I have no idea why. Perhaps because the ones I like are chilly and cold. Song here https://youtu.be/U_Dhc8xDzlY
And, in honor of your impending weather, here’s a song by one of my musical heroes, John Hiatt, titled “Feels Like Rain”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tw-yZB-frc
Love John Hiatt.
Raining here today too, and I was in the same head space as you- all warm and snuggled up, perfectly happy to listen to the rain pitter-pattering on my fiberglass roof. I felt like a small denning creature, all secure and happy in my cave. Never smelled Impossible Iris, but I’m sure it’s lovely.
Well I can’t contribute to the CP since I have no country songs that I like ?
But I can still share my SotD which is Fiery Pink Pepper shower gel + ThoO The Time edp that actually matches what I been listening to today: Kanye Can’t tell me Nothin. Happy friday Y’all!!
Aw, now: you keep lookin’ There is a country song for *everyone!*
Never was a fan of country music or bluegrass so not doing the CP today. Spending time with Coromandel today.
🙂
Friday!
1) Country music- but it depends on the country, yes? So today it’s my maternal land of Panama with Cumbia (salsa and reggaeton is more associated with La Ciudad, David and Colon) . Am paring that with
LVeB Soleil Cristal, a perfect warm coconut scent! I am gonna dance this afternoon!
2) ALSO- gonna go see the James Bond Flick. I am sure it’s dumb, but Daniel Craig gives a brooding presence and warmth to the character that elevates the material. The whole JB franchise is P R O B L E M A T I C but honestly it’s fun.
I feel like one can encounter problematic material with enough awareness to still enjoy Daniel Craig, so you go watch him brood, my friend, and maybe dance while you do that.
Aww! Thank you!
The world is problematic and we all need to do our very best!
And I have been dancing on and off!
Oh, did not know it was coming to the US next month! Wonder how long it will take to get to streaming.
I am excited for Bond too!
We will see! This whole project was being advertised WAAAAY back in fall of 2019, then was shelved due to the pandemic. Now I think that it will be in the theaters for a first run of 4-6 for the fall, then maybe physical media rental (that’s a HUGE source of revenue) along with rental by streaming (which can be about $20!)
There aren’t many movies I will pay to stream (pay more than I’m already paying for streaming, I mean!) but guessing I will for this one.
I have never seen a Bond movie in the theater, and I *swear* I am going to do it this time around!
There are not that many I have *not* seen in a theater!
I think JB is fun, too. Especially the older movies that were so outrageous with the names and characters, the innovation, etc. My mom was huge fan of both the books and movies. I remember going with her when I was a kid. JB might have been the first movie I ever saw in a theater…Keep dancing!
The term ‘problematic’ always makes me laugh. Just this kind of hazy academic/politically aware ambience…
skulks away to go read Othello and Merchant of Venice to a bit of Wagner…
oh snap! ?
LOL.
Wait, what?! I thought the Bond was not in theaters until next month!
It is next month! But I am buying tickets NOW! Sorry, I said al wrong!
Ah! Yeah, we’ll go see it too, because like you said those Bond movies are fun.
I’m in a couple of Creeds today. Aventus Cologne on my left arm, Neroli Sauvage on my right. AC is nice but a smidge too masculine for me. Well, and a big smidge too expensive. The neroli is just fantastic, but it’s like a bad boyfriend. Great when he’s around, but then he disappears. Ppfffttt! ??
Lol! at the bad boyfriend
Great reviews and skin time saved for me! Thanks!
Wearing Chanel No.19 EdT.
Very busy today. Counting the hours to be out of the office.
Back to read comments later.
Happy Friday! ?
Hope you are out of there by now pl67!
I am! ?
Happy Friday…and happy weekend!?
Thank you, mtg! ?
FriYAY for sure! w00t w00t w00t!
??
Sotd is Alien leather version. Not too long ago Mugler made fantastic flankers. I am no longer their target audience, and they have moved on to a younger consumer. Someday though, Mugler will want me back and when they do this will be my response…
” here’s a quarter call someone who cares” by the great Travis Tritt
https://youtu.be/29ebiwO4O70
( a quarter is a coin that you used to put into a phone located in a public space. This is how you would call people if you were not at home) ???
LOL
and double LOL!
Someone on a Facebook group referred to Alien Goddess as a bubblegum fragrance and I had to sit down. What does bubblegum have to do Alien? What is happening?? Sad to see.
OMG – I tried this today at Macys and said the original Alien smelled like root beer (a good thing for me) and Goddess smelled like bubblegum and jasmine!
I still haven’t seen it here, but will for sure try it. Is the bottle gorgeous?
Bubblegum and jasmine sounds pretty good to me!
Good one, lillyjo! I think pay phones are still lurking in most airports – anyway, I still keep a quarter or two in my purse!
I saw one on the street recently and did a triple take just to make sure I saw what I thought I saw
Perfect pairing, lillyjo! ?
Lol.?
Not sure what I found funnier, Here’s A Quarter for Mugler, or your explanation of a pay phone!
And Hey! You were right! One of my brother’s very good friends is an airline pilot, and he has had inner ear issues sometimes going between high altitude and low altitude destinations. Who knew!? ?♀️
Is your ear feeling better?
Yes! It stopped hurting when I flew back to Denver the last time.
Ahahaha, loved the vid. 3/4 of the way through, there was a pop up with “Suggestion: New Country Songs”.
In NYC, pay phones are still in evidence although I would never use them even if I was desperate. They are frequently seen with a homeless person (I am assuming here) holding the handset like a weapon (thank God for the inch thick coiled cable), yelling at passers-by. The other day, I saw someone with a cell phone attached somewhere on the phone and was having a conversation. He could bery well be speaking to someone but if not, he should be hired as an actor ?
Since we ran out of nested comments, Goddess has a beautiful translucent gold bottle.
I’ve never warmed to anything I think of as country music, but I probably have a random and arbitrary view of what is defined as country music. I just googled a song I do like, and it is a genre of country – Steve Earl’s Copperhead Road.
I have no idea what perfume might go with that, other than something alcoholic, so I’m heading to a hair appointment in Lubin’s Idole.
I have a very open minded view of what country is — probably because it is not my primary music. Steve Earle, definitely country. In fact, I considered his cover of Harlem River Blues for today, but worried some people might find it too depressing. (I personally find it both depressing *and* uplifting…)
Well I like country music. And I like so many perfumes…overwhelmed for the CP fail! But looking forward to Swap meet, and off to read and listen to everyone’s comments and videos! SotD Nahema from the new bottle – a safe BB if you like the Bee Bottle of recent years.
Gorgeous rose perfume for you today! ???
Like some of you, I’m not a big country music fan (although I learned a lot from Ken Burns’ PBS documentary on Country Music, which I highly recommend?), so I anticipated having difficulty with this cp. But catching a glimpse of Darius Rucker on the recent CMA Summer Jam program reminded me how much I enjoy him and love his version of ‘Wagon Wheel,’ and that is my choice for today’s cp.
Researching the song a bit further, I was delighted to learn that Bob Dylan wrote the chorus in 1973 and Lady A provided the backup vocals and appear in Rucker’s video, both also big favorites of mine. Then I learned the song described a hitchhiking journey along the eastern coast of the U.S. from New England through Roanoke, VA as the narrator hopes to see his lover in Raleigh, NC. And it immediately reminded me of the many wonderful camping trips we took along that route when we visited my son during his college days in Maryland, starting in Maine. It’s my favorite part of the country all the way down the coast, and I knew that JM Wood Sage & Sea Salt was the perfect SOTD – the Wood for all the wonderful forests and dunes we visited, Sage for all the green fields and gently rolling hills, and Sea Salt for that wonderful Atlantic Ocean. So now I appreciate the song even more as it brings back so many wonderful memories each time so hear it!

Looking forward to a family wedding tomorrow and seeing my favorite cellist in concert Sunday evening, and wishing a wonderful weekend ahead for all NST’ers!
Each time ‘I’ hear it, not ‘so’ hear it.
Hooray for a family wedding! Best wishes for the happy couple!
It’s supposed to be a beautiful weather day and the wedding ceremony will be outside, so I’m really looking forward to this joyous occasion. Not so much the reception indoors where we’ll be masked for hours but I appreciate they are keeping the guests who are vaccinated separated from those who are not.
Ah, nice! Which cellist? We saw Itzhak Perlman open the Baltimore Symphony season last weekend. The show will go on! I’ve been looking around at orchestras in the eastern half of the US for the upcoming season and pretty much everyone’s doing the same thing – vax only, masks on. It seems like the only kind of destination travel that won’t have to be canceled at the last minute, so we have tentative plans to head to Chicago then to see the Cleveland Orchestra in Miami in the coming months.
Enjoy the performance and the wedding!
Ian Maksin, based in Chicago but travels the world almost constantly. Born in St. Petersburg, Russia and a classically-trained cellist and composer, his music knows no boundaries, genres or otherwise. He often travels to remote locations, learns the music from its native musicians, then brings it back to share with the rest of us in his goal to unite the world through his music. An outstanding human being as well as musician, I’ve seen him many times and each time is special. He has many YouTube videos; links to social media on his website, Ianmaksin.com (not affiliated in any way, just a huge fan).
Thank you!
I love that story that you tied to your SotD. I am also not a country fan but really liked the Ken Burns’ documentary, I could easily rewatch it. I found all the back stories fascinating.
IMO, anything Ken Burns does is fantastic. New PBS documentary on Muhammad Ali is coming up. I will watch it even though I’m not an Ali fan. I always learn so much from his films it doesn’t matter what the subject is!
Your weekend sounds amazing! Have a great time!
Thank you!
Enjoy the family wedding! It’s a wonderful time of year for something like that, isn’t it?
Ken Burns’ Country Music documentary was a must watch for me. I was shocked at how deeply it is woven into my pop culture references, despite Country not being my preferred genre.
I completely agree. Even though it’s not my favorite music genre, I certainly gained a new respect and appreciation of it as a result of his film.

https://youtu.be/afBKCnrChcc
SOTD to match is L’Artisan Passage d’Enfer EdT, from the sample stash. It has the flowers from the funeral home, the incense from the Mass, and a hint of wood for the church pews.
ARGH! Meant to type “Wichita Lineman” up there! Can’t blame that one on Spellcheck.
You’ve got the country song theme covered- left, right, and center! ?
I never heard that song before, but I’ve always been a sucker for a sad song. Hope you are hanging in there. ✌?
I heard plenty of country music growing up thanks to my Dad. I also have vague memories of watching The Johnny Cash Show on TV way back in the day. And The Monkees, but that’s a different story…
I’ve had a few crying jags lately. To be expected, and sometimes a much needed catharsis.
Great song selections and I loved your match today!
Thank you Laila!
Oh wow, John Denver. I had a huge crush on him as a young teen. Loved his music.
My first pair of glasses as a kid had wire rims, because that’s what John Denver had.
Remember his TV show?
Yes! I also had wire rimmed round glasses because of him. 🙂
I tried to match something to Garth Brooks this week, but came up empty. I love a lot of his songs.
Do you think you will be getting a full bottle once your sample is done?
If L’Artisan still had 50mL bottles, it would be a no-brainer. Not sure I want to gamble on EvilBay to find what I want. I’ve been burned a couple of times there. Maybe I will get a decant if I thunk the sample. But I have an embarrassment of perfume riches in both my FB stash and the sample/decant stash, so maybe I will ramble on to the next discovery.
You are a treasure trove of music, among other things!
Like many others, I am not a country music fan per se, but do like a good country song. If that makes sense.
Song of the day is
https://youtu.be/1o4s1KVJaVA
and I’m pairing it with the “delicate” No. 5 L’eau. Not even sure if it counts as a country song, but it’s a great song nonetheless.
The Traveling Wilburys! So much talent. I think Bob and Jeff are the only ones still alive. It was great to hear them again, thanks!
The Traveling Wilburys were a Supergroup in the truest sense of the word.
I took the day off, snuggled up on the couch and enjoying the rain outside, watching the Morning Show in a mix Amouage Lyric and Trader Joes Pumpkin Body Butter. Later today going out for Lebanese food.
Lebanese food… Yum!
Country is way too hokey for me, but ‘You and I’ by Lady Gaga is catchy
For a long time I didn’t like Country music much, then I met a cute guy who did. What can I say… I’m weak! Lol.
So yesterday I stumbled into CP compliance by sampling Five O’Clock Au Gingembre and finding the country song “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere.” But the truth is that I don’t know many country music songs! I do have one that I guess I’d call my favorite of my limited acquaintance: Lou Ann Barton’s “You Can Have My Husband (But Please Don’t Mess With My Man)”: https://youtu.be/HJF7h9mSIEA. What scent goes with that?? I went with Cabochard.
Thank you, just that song title made me laugh! Off to listen.
I would have loved to be able to say I wore the Dolly Parton perfume, but it was such a disappointment. Scrubber from the get-go. Luckily only got the sample, but that’s $10 I won’t get back unless someone wants to swap for it during the swapmeet tomorrow. Wound up with The Body Shop White Musk for the office and Black Opium Extreme this evening.
Can’t wait for next Friday. Total Miss Piggy fangirl!
I went to Bath & Body Works after work today. You are correct about the Fireside Marshmallow smelling similar to the Bonfire Bash Fragrance Mist! The candle is sharper and has less vanilla. If it was on sale, I would have bought it.
I did not love the DP either.
