Saturday is the 20th anniversary of 9/11 (and the National Day of Service and Remembrance). Sunday is the National Day of Encouragement.
We're marking everything with our standard open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the last new fragrance you bought or tested, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Hello!
)
Sotd is YSL Libre Intense. The best version of the Libre series I think. I just wished if there was more lavender (and another bottle cap design
Hi AnnJune, if you are reading! I replied too late yesterday to your question so I will answer here again. I got my tea during my trip to Taiwan. They have some of the best tea and food imo. I did a quick google and I think you can get your hands on the tea (but the difference is the tea is from China?)
Hello! Thanks so much for getting back to me.… I will google it. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
I meant to say…I am heading home today from out of town. I am behind on email and comments and probably won’t catch up until Sunday night.
(And by coincidence, have been staying in Arlington, and right this second if I turn my head to the window at my right, I have an amazing view of the Pentagon.)
Hope everyone has a great weekend.
How ironic. Safe travels Robin!
Safe travels home Robin!
Working on Project Decant, Work Edition. I brought home all the work decants languishing in a desk drawer, and am emptying them before they evaporate. It’s the Prada iris absolue today, and have already finished off DC Oriental Lounge BTW, that sounds like a perfume ready to be re-named, doesn’t it?
Absolutely ready for a rebrand! Have a new name in mind?
Summer-weight Cashmere? Definitely open to suggestions…
A couple of months ago I saw a FB in box brand new on evilbay for $49.99 and almost bought… Waited too long and it was gone. And I regreted it later because the price was so cheap!!
I’m in Italian Leather this morning, which elicited a neck sniff and a “nice!” from Mr. G. We’re having sunshine and cool temperatures here today, and my project du jour is figuring out how a sprinkler head got pointed 90 degrees from where it’s supposed to spray, and getting it repositioned. I suspect it got dislodged somehow during the deck rebuild. Now the patio table gets a nice shower instead of the planting bed … which means it gets cleaned on a regular basis, so that’s good? ?
I never heard of your perfume so had to check it… sounds really great!
It’s one of my favorites for fall/winter. The tomato leaf note is really interesting with the leather and vanilla … sounds like it wouldn’t work, but it’s just lovely.
Hello!
It is like someone hit a button and switched us into autumn this week. The light angles are longer and the temperature is starting to drop, so I wore Ambrosine yesterday and smelled lovely. Guessing that’s what I choose again today, whenever I get done with the morning food-workout-shower routine.
I survived the first week of school back with students. It was exhausting for all of us! Between lower educational stamina and the A/C being broken at our school, we were all slouching by 7th period each day. I’m going to try to rest and relax this weekend, although I only “slept in” by about 30 minutes this morning because the kitty was lonely and at the door.
Also starting the new semester Live and In Person! It felt odd, but okay overall.
Oh, I hope the transition goes smoothly for everyone! We’ve definitely had some “bumps.” My poor kiddos, usually by 7th grade they kinda know the routines of middle school, but this year, it’s like they’re still 6th graders but a year older. So much new to learn–switching classes, lockers, different teachers with different teaching styles, and that’s before the COVID protections we all have to practice! Nothing feels routine, yet.
Poor kids! That’s a big transition at the best of times.
Oh, that is weird.
Wow, was the first week of semester hectic or what! I hope all cope well, ours at State was certainly bumpy and I was glad for a three-day weekend.
It’s interesting how it seems to happen overnight, isn’t it? (Fall coming.) I was outside one day and the light just looked like fall, like that back to school feeling. I was very nostalgic for the days of having my three sons in elementary school. They are now late 20s/early 30s. How can it still feel so recent to me?
I don’t know how fall sneaks up on me, but it seems to do it every year! And you’re right, it’s inextricably linked with the start of the school year. I’m sure I’d still feel that way, even if I wasn’t a teacher. I baked chocolate chip cookies this week in honor of my late stepmother, who always baked us cookies for our lunches the first week of school.
I’m in Chanel Paris Biarritz, which will be nice while it lasts. We are supposed to hit 90 here today and I will try to enjoy every minute of it. The nights and mornings have been much cooler and I may or may not have used my seat heater and heat on my way to work this past week.? Busy, busy week. Too busy to even comment. Now I’ll enjoy 5 days off.?
Enjoy the sun and the time off!
Enjoy the sun and dreams of Biarritz.
Safe trip back home, Robin!
The perfect day for an incense perfume and I am wearing a big favorite, AdV Copal Azur.
I went to Trader Joe’s very early this morning and all the pumpkin and apple items where already out. I went crazy and grabbed everything I could, so I am going to have some autumn fun for a while. I regret not getting a back up of the pumpkin body butter, which I love and sells very fast. I will walk to the TJ near my office on Monday at lunchtime and check if they have some left there.
Having my second cup of coffee with an apple cider donut.
Happy weekend, everyone! ?
I was in Safeway yesterday stocking my very empty larder and was specifically looking for anything “pumpkin.” Not a thing out just yet here, unless you count Starbucks pumpkin spice beverages. I may hit up TJ today to see what I can find. Thanks for the tip!
Good luck with your TJ trip, Deva! They have everything out here already. I hope yours also!
I had a kitty named Safeway a black polydactel who of course was in a box outside the store – free kittens.
Awww. We had a parking-lot rescue kitten when I was little, named Sugar because that’s what was supposed to come home from the store (but didn’t). Sugar was also all-black.
Sugar, that’s a sweet one.
We went and got a playmate for Safie about 10 days later. Turbo, he was soooooo fast. Also a dump off in a parking. what is wrong with people?
SOTD is Sana Jardin Incense Water.
9/11 is hard day. the sky here today in my part of SoCal is a robins egg blue as that day in NY.
Aww, so cute! ?⬛
I always forget about Copal Azur, so I’m really glad you mentioned it today. I just found my decant, and I’m going to wear it tomorrow (or maybe later this afternoon).
I put my decant in the front of my cabinet. It is a nice incense for the warmish days we are having now!
I have been noticing that there’s alot of empty shelves across different supermarkets
The pumpkin craziness is at its high!
I definitely will check out TJ’s today. Thanks for sharing.
Hope you find all the nice season goodies you like!
I did find the pumpkin body butter. I love it! Thank you perfumelover67.
So glad you got it! Enjoy!
They have pumpkin body butter?
They do! It has been a favorite of mine for many years. It is very silky, absorbs quick and it is very moisturizing. The scent is light and last for a couple of hours. An 8oz container is $4.99 and you don’t need to apply much. It sells very fast. For the past two years I wasn’t able to get one, until now. I am not sure I will find another one this year.
Wow, already 20 years from that tragic day. This makes me realize how the time flies. I was 11 back then, now 31…
I’m wearing Acquasala from Gabriella Chieffo today. Enjoying the wafts of salty, algae-scented air around me.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CTrvzjcocOA/?utm_medium=copy_link
Time really does fly. My son was at nursery school when the planes hit, now he is an adult.
SOTD is Hermes 24 Faubourg from a sample. I have a new appreciation for this perfume. The first time I tried this 2-3 years ago I hated it, I don’t know why… It’s beautiful!
You smell très élégante.
This day always makes me cry for a number of reasons. I just go with flow and let it come and let it go.
I had to return to one of my most unfavorite cities yesterday (another reason for my low mood) for a pre-procedure covid test. Now I’m stuck here all weekend until the procedure on Monday. Not enjoying having to smell the stink and listen to the cacophony of shouts, yelling, squealing brakes, and sirens. Ugh. Missing the quiet of the middle of nowhere. ?
Wearing En Voyage Zelda today, because it’s tropical and waxy, warm and humid, promoting images of darkness, a full moon and tropical walks. Very soothing but also a bit dark and foreboding.
Good luck with the procedure Deva! Hope everything goes well and fast!
Thank you!
Best of luck with the procedure. I know what you mean about missing the quiet. I always miss our favorite campground on San Juan Island. Peaceful and quiet. So beautiful. I will definitely not retire in a city.
I hope you can get back there soon!
Good luck Deva! I remember the city of which you speak. I’m sorry you had to go back.
Thank you! And as they say, this too shall pass…
This is a particularly hard 9/11 with so many anniversary events. Sorry you are stuck somewhere so unpleasant as well. Jangly.
Thanks!
All the best for your procedure!
Thank you! I’m much better being a nurse, not so good at being a patient…?
You smell great! Good luck with your procedure!
Thanks!
I’m in BDK Gris Charnel, late to the celebration. I thought I didn’t like it that much but gave it another go and loving it now. If you don’t want bottles, don’t keep trying.
I’ve spent some time remembering 9/11 and then did a bunch of errands. Now looking forward to some afternoon fun– SaturYAY!
You smell fabulous and I second that YAY!
I tried this one recently and really liked it
In Tam Dao again which feels appropriate for the cool and rainy weather in my neck of the woods. Definitely feels like fall today!
+1 for Tam Dao. Perfect for fall. Do you have the EDT or EDP? I’m always curious about the difference between them.
I have the EDT! One day I’ll have to get a sample of the EDP for a comparison!
SotD = Asian Green Tea. Treated myself to a travel spray of Cypress Shade. It was another one on my tro try wish list. Will report back when it arrives.
I like the name Cypress Shade
Happy weekend everyone! I’m wearing Black Perfecto today from a new decant. Shame it’s getting discontinued.
No big weekend plans, will probably just relax.
Another one bites the dust! Guerlain is really taking the axe to their collection.
whaaat! That one too
I didn’t know either. Or forgot. But not likely I’ll ever drain my travel spray.
My SOTD is Pink Pepper Wood, by 1000 Flowers. My favorite from this line is of course Reglisse Noire, but there are times when I don’t want that much licorice floating about. Pink Pepper Wood is just that — pepper and wood notes. I like it, and it sets the right mood (calm alertness) for the grading session that I need to get through today.
Hope you got that grading done and you’re relaxing today, Lisa D!
In Shalimar Philtre- the more I wear this one, the more I like it.
In the backyard for some Saturday reading while the weather stays nice enough ??
I’m curious Yasmina, how do you find it differs from original Shalimar?
To me its sweeter and softer — more powdery even? Full disclosure: I cannot stand the original Shalimar!
Hello all, my SOTD is Bergamote 22 by Le Labo, good for today’s warm weather. I do love this but prefer Iris 39, which I may drag out tomorrow.
Thanks everyone for the well-wishes on Friday, I’m feeling much better. I slept for 12 hours after the booster. SmokeyToes was a good nursemaid, keeping me company the entire time.
I’m off to wander about and get some errands completed. My next class starts Wednesday, it’s surprising how fast time goes!
Everyone have a lovely day!
Glad you are feeling better
Glad the worst was over after 12 hours.
Thank you everyone for all the kind wishes, I am feeling so much better today! Wearing Heeley Jasmine OD – wish they had kept the name Bubblegum Chic, it was so much more fun.
Glad you’re feeling better! Agree with you on the name. What does the “OD” stand for..? I’m my world, it’s “overdose.” Not a good thing. ?
I think it stands for overdose— in that vein of naming perfumes after narcotics, or here more innocently? for an overdose of jasmine.
Oh, well, let’s glorify narcotics and overdoses, then. I think sexual glorification of perfumes is pretty old and tired at this point, so they had to move on to something else. So silly. ?
My 16 yr old kid tried edibles last weekend (first time) and had a horrible reaction, called us… spent a night in ER and scared him silly. I don’t want to wear any fragrance even remotely reminding me of that event. UGH.
Yes, exactly – not a nice association.
Really over this type of perfume (or anything else) promotion. Let’s just leave the sex, drugs and overdoses out of it completely and talk about the perfume in a simple, descriptive way. Or, if you want to get fancy, use some positive imagery for goodness sake.
I want it to be the 1950’s again. I wonder if wholesomeness will ever make a return.
Glad you are feeling better! I still have a tiny sample left of Bubblegum Chic! I agree, it was a much better name.
Missed your lousy day, but am glad today is better! I agree that Bubblegum Chic is a fabulous name.
Hello!
SOTD – Amouage Honour. It’s beautiful outside cool and sunny. Today planning to get chores done around the house. School is back on and I am adjusting to the new routine with the picks and drop offs and the all coordination.
Have a wonderful day!
You smell lovely!
I am feeling pretty anxious today. Every 9/11 I sort of drag through. But with all of the remembrance events this year, today is particularly hard. I know we all have our stories, especially those of us who were living in NYC and DC. There are three days every year that jolt me–July 4, the day my son was dxed w brain cancer; October 17, the date of Loma Prieta earthquake, which for me was a very perilous and scary day at work and then it got worse when I made it to my flat; and then of course Sept 11. I keep hitting refresh on the news on my computer, making sure no new disaster has struck.
Well, that’s my cheery self. In Eight & Bob’s Provence, which has the dubious benefit of fading so fast that one can enjoy reapplying liberally every 30 minutes or so.
Oh yes, 10/17 the day our house in the east bay shifted on its foundation.
I remember it clearly, just like the day JFK was assasinated in November 1963.
Yet, for me its important to remember and witness and listen.
I watched the twin towers get built during high schoul in ny and worked summers at 2 Broadway as they got taller and taller and the shadows got longer on the streets around Wall Street.
Same for me, except my dog died on July 4th. All days filled with shock and tremendous sadness.
Happily I am terrible at remembering dates, so most bad anniversaries pass me by. 9/11, not possible, but it was especially weird to be so close to the pentagon, and like you, I kept refreshing the news, just in case!
Good morning, another sunny start to the day.
Reporting back on yesterday’s sniffing, I tried BDK’s Creme de Cuir and Mizensir’s Solar Blossom. Solar Blossom is a nice orange blossom floral, but Creme de Cuir – oh dear! If you like sweetish musky notes, you’ll probably love it, but I don’t. And it lasts forever
Of course that’s the one that lasts forever then, right? Solar Blossom sounds nice.
SotD = laddm + sweat
I rode my bike to the library at about noon. The library is not open for browsing, but I can request items online, then pick them up at the door after making an appointment. Strange days we live in.
It’s a typical hot September afternoon, so I’m “glowing” from the pedaling and wafting laddm nicely. Usually I wear it in winter. It smells different on a hot day, tho always wonderful for sure.
I chose laddm because part of my ride winds through a city park with huge pine trees. I hope the trees thought I smelled good.
My heart and thoughts go out to anyone having a tough time on today’s sad anniversary. Twenty years ago I lived within sight of the smoke but not the skyline. Some years I turn away from remembering too much, other years I turn inward and go deep. This year I don’t know how I feel, and that’s ok.
I wore a lot of perfume this past week. Nobody can smell me through their mask. I’m back to school in person, working as a substitute teacher in many different classrooms. I usually work as an intervention teacher giving extra lessons and support to students who need to catch up. There are a LOT of students who need help. And this year there is a shortage of substitute teachers while a LOT of classroom teachers need to take time off. It’s a puzzle for sure.
First you smell great! Second, what is up with all the days off? It’s almost like a sickout!
thanks, hajusuuri! laddm always makes me happy
you know, I’ve wondered if there might be some staff that are staying home even when they’re well. They probably have a reason, but it does seem excessive.
Wow, tiffanie, sounds like you will have an extra busy year.
ha, yep!
everyone is busy busy busy in a good way. I hope there’s not a lot of burnout come springtime.
SOTMorning was Tam Dao, but it has faded. Adorable hubby and I went through a drive up fly clinic this afternoon and both got our flu shots for the year. His arm hurts a little, mine not at all. Now I will go find a random sample to put on and then start the the Vietnamese style lemongrass beef marinading for a noodle salad for dinner. Yum!
Oh, jealous of your dinner!! We have baby back ribs sitting in spice rub for tonight though, so will have to be content with that.
Hey all! I’m so happy I’m off this weekend. I slept until noon–I needed it! I thunked my old sample of Van Cleef & Arpels Lys Carmin. It’s nice. I’d consider a bottle if I could find one on sale, but it doesn’t seem to be easy to get anymore. Oh well, money saved!
I often think about the tragedy of 9/11, and how things have changed since then. It feels like a long time ago, but also not as long as 20 years.
I think about it too. If someone had told me 20 years ago that we’d have that many people dying every 2 days from Covid, I wouldn’t have believed it.
Today I wore Chronic, and it was quite pretty, if not so long lasting. The light musky scent is not something I would have associated with the perfume’s name. Maybe I was expecting something a little sharper? One of my coworkers was wearing Michael Kors Sweet Amber, which reminded me alot of Dream Angels Heavenly.
Now I will have to think of what I’d expect Chronic to smell like. Probably something with lots of patch?
Maybe something on the citrus-y/green spectrum? Or something ozone-y, if that makes sense. That’s just what shows up in my head when I ponder the name Chronic. *shrugs*
My husband LOVES Chronic. Each time I wear it, it takes him by surprise. He always rushes over and demands to know what I’m wearing it smells so good. Funny considering the name and the marketing.
I know, right? Funny name for a pretty perfume. It’s something I would actually consider purchasing a full bottle of, if i already didn’t have so many.
Today I met a 63-year old woman who was selling her old perfume bottles from the 70-s and 80-s
I bought two vintage 7.5 ml Vol de Nuit bottles in perfume and also quite cheap. Less then 100$ for both.
I asked her where did she find them. Apparently in USSR in the 70-s women were able to buy French perfume but it was very rare.
So I figured she was some sort of wife of a diplomat or general back then.
She was very polite and I asked her why didn’t she use it.
She said that she liked bitter chypres and this one is sweet like all Guerlains are.
I think VdN is the lest sweat from them all (I mean 4 great G classics)
But I find it’s sweat base intoxicating. I couldn’t do without it!
How lovely, congrats on your find!!
I agree with you. It’s been years since I tried VdN, but it definitely was not one of G’s sweeter scents. Sounds like a great find and an interesting conversation. Where did you cross the woman’s path?
I found her online. She was selling old perfumes =)
Paris-Deauville today. I burned through the decant I got in the split meet earlier this summer, but thought I’d prevent myself from buying it. Then, last weekend, went to a wedding and my suitcase smelled like P-D (it leaked a bit during a trip in July) — and I realized I was kind of huffing my suitcase. So I used all my Nordstrom notes (not that many) to take the edge off and bought a bottle, which arrived today! I smell like summer, which is rapidly fading here, too.
Today is a hard day. My best to everyone.
Yay for your new bottle!
SOTD Boy by Chanel
Today we went to Battery Park City to see the Freedom Tower from there. Spent the day in the sun, eating ice cream and invited some of my kids friends from school. Overall we talked about how much we love NYC, we love raising out children here, how different Battery PC is from where we all live in the city…Lots of men in uniform walking around along with water..our kids waved at all of them. It was a good day overall.
Sounds like a lovely day.
What a great way to spend the day.
Royal Secret today. A new purchase from my local Value Village. I found out about this one years ago after asking an elegant woman what she was wearing. I bought it but it didn’t capture me as I had hoped. I’m giving it another try now. The years have passed and I’m now more mature (!). Toronto is pleasant, a perfect September day.
Wishing everyone a good day, filled with gentleness.
That is a great find. I have a little of the vintage and always enjoy it. A great Fall scent. I will also mention that Five Star make “Eau de Royal Secret” and it is almost free on good old FragranceNet. I have one, and it is a very homey and polite ghost of the original. Good enough that I won’t miss my original when it’s gone.
A question for anyone who might be able to answer: has anyone on here smelled Cypress Shade? I have been thinking I wanted to try this for a couple of months now and I finally bought a traveler of it. AFTER I made my purchase I noticed on LS website that they put it under masculine fragrances!! No. 1 how come I haven’t noticed that during the couple of months in which I kept thinking of buying it? But what made me feel better was that one reviewer said it should have been under feminine perfumes. Can anyone tell me if Cypress Shade is masculine or unisex? What do You guys think?
I have never smelled it but I’ve basically stopped thinking about perfumes as being feminine, masculine, unisex or genderless and it irks me that B&M and online stores / boutiques still split the perfumes.
Seriously I would not worry about it. You might like it, you might not like it, that’s all that matters.
September 12, the post 9/11 era rolling around. Wearing Durga- a good name for a timeless scent. Today I will pack our bags for the little conference we are going to on the other side of the state later in the week. I’m using this as an opportunity to do a little editing of my closet. Shoes I haven’t worn in three years-out. Blouses I can’t get ketchup stains out of-out! Anything I hauled halfway across the country and have not worn since I got here-out out out!!!
I love a good purge.
On day 2 of my vacation. I remember being on my way to class on September 11th and when I got to class, they closed the school. Spent all day yesterday in Lyric and will spend most of the morning in Lyric while I vacuum. After my shower I will wear no 5. Sephora didn’t let me know that my package shipped and I got it yesterday.
I do remember that fear…my son’s school closed and I was so sorry to have him home because I had to pretend everything was ok when in fact I was frantic, but at the same time was so happy to have him where I could see him.
Hope you are enjoying vacation time!
Happy Sunday! My SOTD is Sage perfume oil, from Perfectly Scentsable. This company bought the perfume rights for Body Time of Berkeley.
For those folks who loved Gap Grass from the 1990’s, this is an exact dupe. It’s amazing, refreshing, and zippy.
I have several oils from them which I love.
Pomegranate – pulpy fruit, not sweet, with a great woods drydown; Egyptian Musk – rich and powdery;
White Musk – very close dupe to Bvlgari’s Au the Blanc.
Thank you for the tip. The free shipping for samples makes these easy to explore
Yes! Happy to oblige! I think the owner’s name is Lynne, she, provided loads of samples with my last order.
Her daughter has a line of natural skin care products, she popped a few in a few samples of those. Great stuff, especially the masks.
Thanks for this. I used to wear the original Body Time Egyptian Musk. Even before they had to change their name from The Body Shop due to the British store. Their oils have quite a history.
They do! I think I’ve worn the oils for over 20 years. I was a frequent shopper when they had a store on Fillmore St. in SF. I am so happy the line is continuing!
I think the next oil I’ll purchase is China Lily.
SotD = Tango by MM. Only 3 sprays and I am wafting an elegant, delicious woody and oriental cloud. Very classy.
I must try this one.
Last year I bought I think one bottle of fragrance my no buy year.
This year, I have not been so judicious.
Sampling Heeley Rose Aria and Zoologist Chipmunk. Neither of them is super exciting, but I like chipmunk and would like to buy it for sentimental reasons.
Going to see Hamilton tonight with my family! I’ll wear a lighter scent, don’t want to upset other patrons or prevent anyone from enjoying the show. Maybe Rose Petal Drops from Zara, in the line by Jo Malone (the person, not the brand).
How exciting! Enjoy the show! Is Jo Malone creating perfumes under a different brand now?
I need to catch up on things, obviously….
Yea, she started another brand called Jo Loves. I’ve only smelled Green Oramge and Coriander from it, but I like that one very much.
SL Ambre Sultan today. I should, and will, wear this more often! We have tropical storm Nicholas headed our way this week. Will be keeping an eye on it. ?
