It's Monday, National Rollercoaster Day and Madonna's birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm giving a second (and final) shot to Dolly Parton Scent from Above.
Reminder: on 8/20, wear the first scent that made you a fan of a particular note. Suggested by PriscillaE.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

My friend was supposed to finally see Madonna in concert last year, then the pandemic came along and it had to be cancelled, like so many others. She was crushed, she’s been a big Madonna fan for a long time.
SOT(Y)D was Cocoa Sandalwood. Today I am planning on wearing another Chance, this time the Eau Tendre version. I’ve always thought this one is the prettier version.
The Eau Tendre Chance is lovely! It’s my MIL’s signature scent. I enjoy the Chance EDP, beautiful musky iris. đ
Aw, hope she gets another chance.
I’m accidentally doing the cp today, wearing L’ombre dans L’Eau. It took awhile, but it made me like green rose.
Madonna’s birthday reminds me of Bear, because I remember his birthday was close to hers. Also IIRC, one of the young marzipan’s too. I’m off today, and just remembered I still have to make the stupid car payment. Seems like I just paid them a month ago! Lol.
You smell marvelous! I love Lâombre dans LâEau! It’s a gorgeous and (bracing) green rose for sure!
You smell goooooood! That’s a classic for a reason.
Hi twin!
Very close!!! It was the youngests this weekend and the eldests next weekend!! I’m impressed with your memory!!! ??â„ïž?
Happy Birthday to them both!
Always glad to see you!?
Thank you . ???. I’ve been busy and boringly still wearing Patchouli Nobile since the beginning of July so nothing exciting with me perfume wise. Hope you and the kids are well!!!
Regular car payments or unexpected bills to fix one’s old clunker: both are “tire-“some. đ
I feel like I just read the answer to a Jumble
?
OLL! THRIG!
Le ?.
Smelling great!
Seconding that! A thrillingly successful blind buy during the last split meet for me, but can you really go wrong with Chanel?
Not usually lol. I didn’t care for Misia though lol.
You do smell great!
It was a wonderful blind buy for me, too. Waiting for cooler weather to wear again.
A few sprays of Armani Bois d’ Encense today. Still have hives, so being cautious about where I spray.
You smell wonderful!
Happy Monday! SOTD – wearing Clinique Simply – I really love the soy note and melon. It wears close to the skin but has pretty good longevity, six or so hours. When it wears down, I’ll apply a spritz of REM by Reminiscence.
I’m a little bummed. I got on the scale at the gym yesterday and the needle went UP. đŻ So disappointed. I’ll have to regroup and look at portions, if I had to guess, it’s portions and snacks that are my downfall.
Of course, if you’ve replaced fat with muscle then you could gain a little bit if weight
True, and I am lifting heavy weights, alternating with moderate weights/higher reps so I get a mix of a weight-bearing cardio workout. The reality is at 54, it takes longer to build muscle – so I’m not getting my hopes up too much.
ST – I am 68. Keep lifting!!
You two have been inspiring me, it should be said! I started an intentional daily walk, and I make sure to do something weight-bearing each day, though not weights. “Meep-meep” SmokeyToes!
I really liked Simply – congrats on finding a bottle!
Donât let the scale bother you too much. I suspect itâs muscle gain. But even if itâs not, you know youâre healthier and stronger than you were before!
I donât go by the scale but by how my clothes fit. As long as Iâm comfortable in my pants, Iâm good.
Unless you wear nothing but leggings for months, then try to squeeze into a pair of jeans ?
Okay, you got me there.
I feel very different from everyone
… Thanks to my “hard work” I am nice & curvy like I like. That means I eat extra food because I am paranoid of being too skinny. Yes, all my childhood, teenage years and twenties I had been very slim and I… hated it.
It’s kind of the same, to me. Very few of us end up with the body we want without working for it.
Wearing Goutal’s Duel. It starts off smelling almost purely of alcohol, but calms down into mid/late notes that are just lovely, and rather a lot like hay on me. I’ll definitely finish the sample. I might even thunk it this week, since we are supposed to have a series of days in the low 80s that would be perfect for this.
I do like that one.
And now, 7 hours after application, it’s gone.
I’m wearing L’Occitane Herbae for the first time, after buying a mini. It’s my first L’Occitane fragrance ever. I’m really enjoying this, but someone compared this to Un Jardin Sur Le Toit recently and that is my favorite of the Jardin series.
Which tells me I do not need Herbae đ
Good morning, all! It’s my son’s birthday week, the first week of school, the first week of his first soccer season, and we’ll be experiencing the joy of the first offshore wind event of this fire season tomorrow, although the brunt of the wind and the associated proactive power outages are supposed to remain a bit to our east. Action packed! Yesterday I put on L’Ombre Dans l’Eau, and my son grabbed my arm and took a big inhale and then, after various Italianate expressions of delight, said “I’m going to remember that smell in my heart for the rest of my life!” So, naturally I’m wearing it again today. đ
Awww, your son sounds delightful!
I’m pretty partial. đ
Holy cow, that is an amazing compliment — how old is your son? And hope school & soccer & birthday are all perfect!
He’ll be six on Wednesday, but he’s an old soul!
đ
Your son melts my heart!
Happy Birthday to him!
Happy Birthday to your eloquent son!
Awww, happy birthday to your wonderful (and very sweet) son! đ
Awwwwww. Thatâs all.
So sweet, Happy Birthday to him.
Oh, how sweet! He’s got a big week coming up, and such heart to approach it with.
Happy birthday to your son! He sounds like quite a sweetheart.
Happy birthday to your sweet boy! It seems so early to be going back to school, when I was a kid school started after Labor Day.
Me too. I think summer vacation is generally shorter these days, and our school has some catch-up days from last year — between the pandemic and the wildfires and the “public safety” power outages there were some unexpected no-school days.
Overall that must be the best fragrance compliment I have ever heard. ?
One time he told me I smelled like a “love sugar plump bunny,” which was also pleasant!
Wow! Thatâs a really evocative description.. Sounds like the most scrumptious cozy gourmand đ
What an adorable thing to say! And, isn’t it so true of the scents we love??
Totally true! My heart is tattooed with quite a few…
That is just the best perfume compliment ever!
And I will remember your son’s comment in my heart!
Second interview is done and dusted, hopefully I did well! I had to do a sales pitch and took the opportunity to “sell” IA’s Slow Explosions. My actual SOTD is Ambra again, because this was a video interview and I didn’t want to get caught sniffing myself through the whole thing! It really is a warm hug of a scent for me so it was just perfect.
Iâm sure you were fantastic!
Thank you!
Good luck!
Preshower was Lyric and now in the smallest bit of Tobacco Vanille today. Excited that the Neela Vermeire sample set is coming today. I really wanted to sample the line for the longest time, especially Bombay Bling.
Hope you love Bombay Bling! I loved it the most from initial trio. Now I’m also a big fan of Ashoka and Rahele. Plus Niral of course because iris.
Happy Monday y’all (if that’s even possible for a Monday to be a happy day đ )
I’m wearing Aqua Vitae Cologne Forte from MFK today. It’s an okay citrus, there are a better ones for sure.
I’m going to a jazz concert on Wednesday and am hyped since this will be my first cultural endeavor in almost 2 years (last time I went to the cinema was a short moment before everything was shut down due to pandemic). Now I have to think what special fragrance to wear then đ
Enjoy the show! We went to a symphony performance this (late) spring, which was our first outing of that sort since Jan 2020.
Unfortunately it didn’t really feel like a return to “normal” as it was a bit premature for that. Hope your outing is like old times ?
Have fun lucasai!!
SOTD = Chanel No.19 EDP
Needed a spine strengthener today (more on this below) and it worked!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CSpJFuhL3SD/?utm_medium=copy_link
So I had 2 meetings that needed this. The first one turned out to be a non-event from the standpoint that we were prepared and ready (patting myself on the back). The 2nd call had everyone (already higher level) except the ultimate lead was not there. Oh my Lord, they fed off of each other. We need x and y and we need you to tell us what we can give up so we can do this. Yes, weâll train you and yes, we will work with you along the journey but we cannot tell you what you have to give up and no, we are not asking more senior management for permission. âBut we have x to do in a weekâs timeâ; fine, no issues because we wonât start training until mid-September. âBut weâre too busy in January / FebruaryâŠâ; fine, because most of the work will be done anyway by December. âWe need to know exactly what you expect us to doâ; sure thing, we broke down the activities into hourly time investment. Seriously, I question how some of them got to be where they are right now as we heard way more whining than acknowledgments.
Oy! I wish I can turn the tables so they can see how ridiculous they sounded!
Itâs a very fine line between âmanagement who delegate wellâ and âmanagement who donât really know what theyâre doing and just take credit for othersâ hard workâ.
You are spot on! Also, our team is pretty slim and since I am reviewing the work, I cannot perform the work.
At least the first meeting was painlessâŠ
It wasnât exactly painless because it felt like Groundhog Day several times during the call. Tell me exactly what you want me to do â patience, weâll cover that in training.
My husband had to deal with just this sort of thing all the time in his job, it must be quite common. Glad you had No. 19 to support you!
Apparently, they have been beaten up with other projects. We have to find the right balance between informing / giving them the heads up and actually having them do the work timely.
It sounds like there was a fair amount of CYA in the second meeting. My sympathies. At least you were aromatically prepared!
Yes, No.19 to the rescue. I donât dance around the requirements.
You smell wonderful and I am sitting up just thinking about No. 19.
Ha! This was funny ?.
Glad No.19 worked it’s magic today.
You and me both!
Wearing La Chasse aux Papillions today, which was my gateway to white florals and still one of my favorites.
Started moving some of our non-essential stuff into the new place over the weekend…praying this next weekend won’t be so hot.
Hey, pretty sure that was my gateway too!! Am hoping to wear it this week.
SOTD is Prosody’s Mocha Muscari. It was a cacophony at first, but a few hours in I am getting sandalwood and frankincense, and another dark, rich note that I thought was the coffee, but it might be the oud, or maybe both together. I am not getting the floral notes – lavender, linden, or jasmine – except for a tiny bit of rose. Definitely no mango for me, but there are hints of coriander and angelica. It is a rich, bittersweet gourmand. I see someone on Fragrantica compared it to Organza Indecence; I have a sample of that coming my way and I’ll be interested to do a wrist-to-wrist comparison.
Mondays call for fancy tea, so I’m drinking a pot of Yunnan Gold Dian Hong.
Oh, the OI comparison made my ears perk up! Do report back.
Productive day after finally catching up on some sleep. In my latest attempt to try non-summer frags despite the hot & humid weather, I’m in Habanita L’esprit today, which is actually doing me just right.
Do y’all know about the Department of Salad newsletter? I’ve never made any of her recipes to the letter, but I always get good ideas and we’ve had lots of delicious entree salads for dinner thanks to her weekly inspo. Tonight is this yummy-looking BLT salad with basil croutons:
https://eatsomesalad.substack.com/p/coming-to-you-with-a-delicious-blt
(without the avocado, and adding artic char, and also possibly green beans or fresh peas if I remember)
I’ve made variations on this Steak Panzanella a few times to great effect:
https://eatsomesalad.substack.com/p/two-juicy-steak-salads
Dressed with this feta-herb vinaigrette:
https://www.davidlebovitz.com/creamy-feta-red-wine-vinegar-dre/
(which I’ve made with mint rather than the other herbs.)
Happy Monday
Salads look good. I like your plans for non-Summer fragrances in hot and humid weather! I did Victoria’s Secret Vanilla Lace for a sweaty morning of yard work! Thick, sweet vanilla and sweet musk – it seemed to keep the gnats away, too!
Success!
I eat a lot of entree salads, and probably too lazy to vary my routine but I enjoyed looking at that newsletter, thanks!
Iâm in Paris-Deauville for a quick visit by a gas company tech and Mr. Gâs first full day back after a river rafting junket. The news from the gas company guy was very good – a fix I can do myself with a drill and two screws! Woohoo!
Yay!!!
Yay for simple cheap fixes!
Yay although if it were me, I would probably end up with a hole somewhere on my hand ?.
Iâm wearing Musc 25 today. Itâs already been a challenging day and it probably wonât improve, but at least I smell amazing.
Hope the day will get better, I bet you smell great.
You smell fab.
Wishing you a good night’s rest and a better tomorrow.
Mondays can be rough! I’ve not gotten the chance to smell musc 25 yet, but just looking at the fragrance notes, I agree you smell great!
That was supposed to be for Sistine, lol
Yves Rocher Eau de Juillet during the day but this evening I am in vintage Loulou.
Vintage Loulou will make you smell like a Diva – it is so glamorous to my nose. And the sandalwood or sandalwood accord, whatever it is, smells so classy in the vintage. I need to pick up the current version to see if there is still something fabulous in it.
So glad you like it too, yes the drydown is gorgeous. Today it is less of a bombshellbut still recognisable.
Iâm in AG Mandragore this morning. Was shuffling through my neglected decants yesterday and had forgotten I had this one. Itâs lovely!
We changed internet providers and the service person arrive on time, and made the necessary changes. It all went very smoothly. Ten minutes after that guy left, another guy from the new provider appeared at the door to ask us how the appointment went. Amazing customer service!
The Wild One has done her house check and after sniff activities and deemed the house safe. ?
Glad yours went better than mine! I had the internet installed and 30 minutes after the tech left it went down. Had to send the guy back out for a second attempt. Thankfully itâs stayed up since then. But at least they were polite.
Yuck! I hope your internet holds. Youâve had plenty enough frustrations lately.
A cozy, overcast, rainy day. Had a fun time at the beach with the dog before the rain started, playing in the tidepools. Weâre curled up on the couch now, wearing Waft from the Loft (just me, not the dog).
That all sounds lovely!
I’m wearing Ginger Piccante this morning, got out and walked early before it gets too hot. Both “Starry, Starry Night” and “Black Velvet” (the Alannah Myles version) made my morning song list, I hadn’t heard either in a long time. I have the music on shuffle so I never know what I might hear.
Trying to find a new low or no heel pair of sandals that don’t require breaking in. Any recommendations?
NAOT sandals are so cozy right out of the gate- no breaking in required!
First of all I love Ginger Piccante!
I have two pairs of Taos sandals, the model is called Gift 2. I bought the first pair in 2015 in Palm Springs on vacation – the Navy Pearl colour. They are so, so comfortable that when I saw a Black pair back at home in Toronto I grabbed them! Theyâre still making them and the colours available are gorgeous. Normally I wouldnât buy a thong styled sandal, but I canât even feel it between my toes because the leather upper is so soft and covers much of your foot. I hope this style will always be a part of their collection. ?
These are my million-mile sandals, I can walk forever in them and they are so soft there is no break-in:

Monday.
1) SOTD: Anthony Hopkins EDP. A creamy, musky and spicy orange blossom scent! It’s rather lovely, and persistant. Spray this into hot summer air in the house and it’s a whole vibe.
2) The news is infuriating, heartbreaking and yet necessary. These are times that try the soul, and having good scent really helps.
I had to look the perfume up as soon as I read this⊠Britney Spears and Ariana Grande, ok we are used to but Anthony Hopkins? Nice story behind. Iâm curious to smell it, I love this actor.
Itâs very sad what is happening in Afghanistan ?⊠I canât believe it.
Send me your address at edithspencer at geemail dot com and I will send you the sample- I have a full bottle. (take out the double ee, of course)
And Afghanistan has the moniker of Empire Ender- and not for nothing. It’s horribly sad, but the people- particularly the women- will need to determine how to go forward.
Thatâs so kind of you! I live in UK so completely understand if sending abroad is a trouble. I am Cicely81 in fragrantica so have a look at my perfumes- maybe thereâs something youâd like to try!
I am so sorry for the population of the country, especially the women⊠itâs terrifying but as you say itâs a pit without bottom and going back so many decades⊠fuelled by very many interests.
1) I did a double take on this one, but it sounds kind of tempting…
It’s creamy, a bit soapy and musky- perfect year round, but with this late summer heat it is just wonderful.
Long day at work so no perfume yet, but on coming home I discovered a sample of Iris Nazarena waiting for me in the mailbox. In my search of iconic irises I wanted to try this before it disappears.. I think I read it is being discontinued?
It IS very beautiful.. it may be a love.
I believe it is already discontinued and could be hard to find.
It is amazing. You smell lovely (will smell lovely). I knew they were killing Oeillet Bengale, and got a small sample, but Iris Nazarena is also gone? What are they thinking? Who bought them?
Wearing some Malmaison from a decant I found! Love this stuff, although it is so chilly here, I could have gone with the richer DSH carnation, Oeilettes Rouges, is it called? That is still packed away with my other cold weather perfumes.
Day Five without power here. We have a generator that will keep the freezer and frig cold, and run the computers during the day and the TV/DVD at night, if we leave the pump and hot water turned off. We recharge the pressure tank a couple times a day, and run the hot water heater for a hour to get some luke warm water to bathe with every other day, when everything else is turned off. This is not much trouble really, if the power is out 17 or 22 hours, but after 5 days, I am accutely aware that 1. We are very spoiled, with luxuries that most people in the world do not have. I remind my husband we should not take this stuff so much for granted. 2. I am very spoiled, and hot running water is truly the pinnacle of modern civilization, and I am very cranky whenever my skin starts getting that crusty unwashed feeling. (I know that if I went 10 days with out soap and water, my skin would adjust and actually be healthier, as has happened during long back packing trips, but ugh!) 3. Time to look seriously at whole house solar power with serious battery back up! Which means, as I have found out, upgrading all our appliances to more energy efficient models (fun, but $$$), updating our electrical service, (good idea but $$$$$$!), replacing the homemade windows the guy who build the house put in – very picturesque, but very non-airtight- with energy efficient ones, replacing our old non-airtight woodstove with an air tight cast – iron stove I could cook on in a pinch (Vermont Castings, I am looking at you….), redoing the siding on the house to add insulation and seal up the holes, finish the second story addition…basically we are looking at a gut renovation – redoing the electrical in this post and beam house is going to be a nightmare. But, as I tell adorable hubby, think how nice it will be when it is all done, and we can laugh at the utility company then.
It’s good to have a project, right?
Thanks for this informative post; we are at the “upgrade” stage of appliances and other systems, but have not looked into what some of the newer solar and high efficiency technology and products could offer us. We live in the cloudy Midwest. But you did mention such a sensible thing that is not new: a warming stove that could be used to cook on!
Even in cloudy Germany people are able to hav ees almost 100% solar power!
Yes! It amazes me how almost every home these days in Germany has some solar panels on top, yet NONE here in North America do. (When we lived in Germany, my kid added solar panels to a roof on a colouring book page she was given at a restaurant, because otherwise it “doesn’t look normal.” She’s forgotten that since moving back to North America.)
I think in my next house I would like solar panels for electricity and plenty of battery storage!
And I agree with running water being the pinnacle of civilization and luxury!
Five days??? You poor thing. I hope you can get your power back soon. Hot and cold running water is very luxurious indeed. We have so much comfort itâs hard to do without once youâre used to it.
Goodness, poor you. We are on a waiting list for a whole house generator, but apparently so are a LOT of other people. I hope we get it this year. Then hoping we can get some solar panels & batteries too, but that is a longer term project and will potentially require losing a few trees.
SotD = Tuberoza.
SotD for a morning of yard work (as opposed to gardening): Victoria’s Secret Vanilla Lace. One of our local thrift stores gave it to me (I made a donation, though) because I happened to ask if they had any perfumes. If a perfume is not in a box, our local thrift stores won’t sell them, even spray ones! Makes me shudder to think what might get pitched….anyway, I enjoyed its super-sweet and mainstream muskiness as I sawed and lopped and snipped away at a giant yew bush. Post shower CD Dolce Vita – really nice but it faded on me. Will re-spritzed but I was surprised at how light it seemed.
Dolce Vita is so nice! Do you have the current version?
No, the vintage. In thinking about it, my nose might have been a bit off after all the fresh cut plant smells and mowing the dry, dusty yard.
Ack, really hope they don’t throw them away!
If the volunteers are friendly and not too busy, I will tell them about how many people love older perfumes, which don’t necessarily go bad, how an off smell at the cap might just be the dried residue, to look at prices on Ebay, etc. I get some odd looks, but maybe it helps.
Bvlgari au The Vert
Perfection!
I was in Prada Infusion d’Iris absolue today.
The Absolue is such a stunner! It just smells of class to me.
2nd that.
Late post. I am wearing C de G Kyoto.
Ah, late but you do smell wonderful.
Agreed!
