Dolly Parton Scent from Above ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 3 February 2021 21 Comments

Dolly Parton will launch Scent from Above, a new fragrance for women, in July. Scent from Above was made under licensing arrangements with Edge Beauty, who also did Cher's Eau de Couture.

"People have always followed me around, telling me how good I smell," Parton told CNN. "I've always done just a combination of things, like some bath oils I use and a couple of perfumes I mix. So, I've come up with my own little smell that people just love." Her signature scent, she said, is something "very soft and kind of has a little bit of musk, a very angelic smell."

I will update with more information when I can. Meanwhile, samples of the new fragrance will be available for $10 at Dolly Fragrance after Parton's advertisement for Squarespace airs during the second half of the Superbowl game on 7 February. The $10 can be credited towards a full bottle purchase.

(quote via cnn)

Update: the description from the Dolly Fragrance site, where samples are available as of 4 February...

A playful floral, as soft and spirited as its namesake.

Welcome to Dolly’s world, where fruited notes as bright as rhinestones dance and float above irresistible florals, like butterflies in a garden. The earthen scents of southern fir and musk rise up to join them, in a sweet, singular harmony.

Additional notes include mandarin, blackcurrant, pear, peony, jasmine, lily-of-the-valley, vanilla, sandalwood, tonka bean, amber and  patchouli.

That announcement is pure Parton, Some Aw Shucks L’il Ol Me statements that sound sincere, genius marketing (combining Valentine’s Day and the Super Bowl through an App), a very girlish bottle and a discount incentive.
Boy I hope this smells good.

I wasn’t sure, but it doesn’t really matter — and I intended mine the same way 🙂

Everything about this is pure Dolly…right down to the butterfly cap. Absolutely on-brand. Honestly, I’ll bet it is appealing, because broad-based appeal is what she does. Sometimes, a pretty, easy-going juice is just the thing. I’ll likely check it out, because I’m curious. (No immediate blind buy; I can seldom work a vanilla.)

I mean, I don’t care if it smells like stink bait! I will support Dolly! She invested $1 million in Moderna’s vaccine program and has done SO. MUCH. GOOD. in this world! 🙂

How has no one used that name before!? It is a delightful, gently-cheesy pun.

I only just got the pun. Gosh, I’m slow today. But, I probably originally read this before finishing my first cup of coffee, and had a 5 am meeting this morning. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it.

I have tried this and I like it a lot. It reminds me of Kenzo Jungle Elephant, maybe with a bit of Theorema in the mix. It does not hold up like this into the drydown, but it’s still pleasant.
