Happy International Lefthanders Day! It's also Friday the 13th, plus Alfred Hitchcock's birthday, and our community project for today centers on those two dates: wear whatever seems to fit the theme.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm in Eau de Guerlain: light enough for the heat wave here today and in Hitchcock's Rear Window,* and with enough old-school elegance that you can imagine Grace Kelly and/or Jimmy Stewart wearing it (even though it didn't launch until 1974, 20 years after the movie was made).
Reminder: on 8/20, wear the first scent that made you a fan of a particular note. Suggested by PriscillaE.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

* It is 94°F in New York City as the movie begins. We are expecting a high of 95 today (and I don't know when they started doing the heat index, to account for the humidity, but we're expecting between 105 and 110 today).
I never really got into Alfred Hitchcock movies, so I am a fail for this cp.
I do however smell great in Dune. Currently at the dealership waiting for them to replace a rear tail light compartment that was leaking and also fix my Apple CarPlay which mysteriously quit working a few months ago.
It’s another gorgeous day here. The humidity is supposed to lift today and the weekend forecast looks beautiful.?
Told ya it was going to be a great weekend! Enjoy the rest of vacation and happy belated birthday to your daughter!
I know! You were so right, it’s perfect out!?
Thanks lillyjo!
Yay for beautiful weekends and Dune! Boo for car stuff. I hate going to the dealership and getting car work done.
Seems like there must be a suspenseful scene in a Hitchcock movie somewhere, so I say you get at least partial points for wearing Dune. ?
That is, a suspenseful scene “in sand dunes” somewhere in …
I read your account of your daughter’s birthday this morning. It sounded like so much fun! I hope you have a great weekend.
Thanks sistine! It was sooooo much fun. One of those perfect days I could do over and over again.☺️
1) You smell amazing!
2) And this is why I don’t have a car!
I agree, I loathe dealing with cars.
I love Dune and find it somewhat moody so I think it’s perfect for Hitchcock! Happy belated birthday wishes to your daughter?. And I’m waving ? to you again from just a short distance away. Can you guess where I am? (See my post below for a clue.)
Thanks Laila!
Hmmm…through Madison from Chicago….I’m guessing you’re in the driftless area somewhere, am I right? You picked a great weekend for it! This weather is absolutely gorgeous!?
White Oak Savanna. To paraphrase the oft-quoted line from the movie, Field of Dreams: ‘Is this heaven?’ ‘No, it’s Dodgeville.’ ?
Haha, that’s awesome. Have a great weekend!
Hope that your car repairs are over and done with now.
Light fixed, Apple CarPlay still not working.?♀️? First world problems.
I had a similar idea, Robin. I chose Guerlain Insolence EdP (older formulation) thinking of Lisa (Grace Kelly) in Rear Window. Especially of her first appearance (“Lisa… Carol… Fremont”).
Might work for Judy Barton (played by Kim Novak) in Vertigo too.
I think that’s a great call!
It’s a trifecta! I’m a left hander, always gravitate to Friday 13 AND my favourite director’s birthday is today. Love Rear Window and Grace Kelly’s black and white gown in that film is my dream dress.
Today I’m wearing Jicky by Guerlain. I guess it should have been Krigler Chateau 12 but…….
That black and white gown is just fabulous! Well, all of her clothes in Rear Window are fantastic. I’m also a big fan of that green tweed-y ensemble with the halter neck — so elegant.
The bag from with her nightgown and slippers kills me *sigh*
Great perfume choice! Wasn’t Jicky worn by Sean Connery (who was in Marnie)?
I agree with the dress&accessory comments above too. Girl can always dream…or go for a vestiaire hunt.
Yes to that dress. Love Read Window. When we lived in Colorado, we used to invite the neighbors over for outdoor movie night shown on a king size white sheet stretched taut and Rear Window was a top favorite.
*Rear, not Read!
I love Rear Window, and have fallen asleep TWICE while trying to watch The Birds. Just can’t get into that one for some reason. Have never seen Vertigo, but obviously that needs to change.
Today I’m wearing Selva do Brazil, because of Brazil being the setting for Notorious, and because it’s good in the humid heat we are experiencing. Right now NYC is at 84 degrees (appx 29 for all you in C land), very sunny, very humid, and expected to climb another 10-12 degrees today. It’s a Rear Window day for sure!
Notorious is another one I have not seen in years. The Birds I saw once or twice…too scary for me!
Apparently they shot it with live birds. Surprising, as the final product does NOT look like live birds.
Fact: they were live birds! During the scene where Tippy is trapped in the attic with them, they tied birds to her suit so they would fly closely around her and the terrifying frantic feeling was intense. It was a disaster. Tippy almost lost an eye and her terror in that scene is genuine. Hitchcock was a brilliant director but he could be very cruel, especially to his actresses. She was in full panic as the birds scratched her face and clawed at her eyes. He kept filming and refused to call cut.
Tippi! I didn’t catch the autocorrect.
I couldn’t think of anything for the CP, so am in SMN Caprifoglio per standard summer protocols. Beautiful skies and slightly muggy air as the last of the most recent monsoonal moisture brushes past, and significant heat on the way.
Last night I had a perfume dream, in which Safran Troublant featured prominently and which also involved sampling a half dozen unusual fragrances that a friend had brought back from a trip to China. The scents in the dream were vivid and three-dimensional, and there were two that evoked cool air blowing through pines in the mountains. I don’t usually dream in smells, but it does happen from time to time and feels like rather a treat!
That dream sounds (and apparently smells) marvelous.
“cool air blowing through pines in the mountains” – I want this dreamy scent, lol! What a nice way to wake up.
I feel a semi-urgent need to sniff through my collection and find the closest match. There *is* one, and I think it might Seve de Pin.
I had never heard of that one and looked it up. DSH has done so many fragrances I never knew where to begin! This one sounds nice, though.
That dream sounds amazing!
I want to have a smell dream – that sounds incredible!
Your dream perfume sounds great! If you find it, let us know what it is.
I’m in ELDO Vraie Blonde, an homage to all the blonde women who starred the in the greatest of Hitchcock’s movies.
I almost wore Versace Blonde for this reason!
Brilliant!
That’s brilliant, wish I’d thought of that! I really like Vraie Blonde. https://scentsandsensibilities.co/2019/03/24/scent-sample-sunday-vraie-blonde/
Endless watching of Notorious got me through a divorce. That and Now Voyager.
Thank you all for the many kinds words and wishes for my sister.
She is feeling much better today. Which means I am feeling much better and my hives are going away.
Have been sitting here working in my bathrobe. Post shower I think
Indochine.
Great news on your sister and your hives. Hoping for swift and full recovery.
Now, Voyager is a great movie.
“oh Jerry, don’t let’s ask for the moon. We have the stars”
Great news your sister is better and so are your hives.
Notorious is wonderful and hooray for good news on your sis and hives.
So glad to hear that you’re both feeling better!
I’m glad to hear you’re both feeling better, and I hope you and your sister have speedy recoveries!
I’m glad you are both feeling a bit better today!
Glad to hear that you and your sister are both feeling better!
I am a huge Hitchcock fan and have seen nearly all of his movies. Notorious might be my favourite movie of all time, and Ingrid Bergman is one of the most beautiful people to ever appear on the silver screen. In the final scenes, she’s lit so that she looks as if all the light in the room is radiating from her, as if she’s wreathed in a glowing nimbus: it’s breathtaking.
So obviously today had to be Mitsouko, which Bergman actually did wear, and which confers a golden glow on its wearer, even if they aren’t a famous film star.
Ohh all of this is just lovely.
Wonderful match!
*Participating with Kelly Caleche, fantasizing that I am in a convertible overlooking the French Riviera, lunching on fried chicken and beer with Cary Grant.
The Grace Kelly Hitchcock films are the height of visual escapist fare for me, including in that Dial M for Murder – I get lost in that apartment every time…
*By participating, I mean that I’m looking at the bottle sitting on my dresser that slipped past my hand when I had a craving for Angel EdC very, very early this morning.
Yes, the roadside picnic, that’s perfect!
(And thinking of it is participating, of course)
Ha! Love it!
That picnic scene is too good! Grace Kelly as Lisa is probably the most self-possessed Hitchcock woman ever: she knows what she’s doing every step of the way (until the jewel theft, anyway), and when she offers Cary Grant some cold fried chicken with a double-entendre, he doesn’t know how to respond, because he’s never met anyone like her. Such a great movie!
(except of course that Grace Kelly plays Frances in To Catch a Thief, duh)
I’m also a huge fan of Hitchcock; I even took a film class devoted to him in college. Those were the days: double-features of old classics in a campus auditorium for three bucks.
I haven’t noticed anyone mention Suspicion, which is one of my favorites. For this shy heroine, I’m wearing Le Dix, which is a bit anachronistic, but I dislike Chantilly, which was released that year.
Have a lucky weekend, all!
Great movie, Cary Grant and Joan Fontaine are so good in that one. Le Dix definitely works!
And I loved your choice today, Robin! Finding one that would work in the hot weather and on either co-star is a brilliant move. ?
TCM has a podcast called The Plot Thickens, if it’s of interest to you or anyone else. Season 1 is about Peter Bogdanovich, and as an addendum, they made an episode that’s of one of his interviews with Alfred Hitchcock.
Your recollection reminded me of the only film class I was able to take in college (it was literally the only film class offered when I was a student) and watching classic films in an auditorium 🙂 Peter Bogdanovich visited for one session and regaled us with stories of Hitchcock and Orson Welles.
(I will also add that the Bogdanovich season of the podcast goes very dark, and gets rather depressing and creepy. Forewarned.)
I just finished the second season of The Plot Thickens and can’t recommend it highly enough: it’s about the making of the De Palma movie Bonfire of the Vanities, written and narrated by Julie Salomon, who literally wrote the book on that. A must-listen!
I finished season 2 then watched the movie 😛
My H had never seen it or read the book. I did both shortly after they were released.
He thought the movie was great. I fell asleep just after he gets arrested :/ but got deep enough into it to be struck that Bruce Willis ought to have been cast as Sherman.
Adding: I have the biggest crush on Ben Mankiewicz. If I still lived in LA, I’d be stalking him ?
Sotd is PdE Cri de la Lumière inspired by Kim Novak in Vertigo.
I love that film and consider it a great psychological masterpiece. If I were getting a PhD, I’d write my dissertation on the concept of Transference in Vertigo. We can’t help ourselves but to project our early caregivers onto everyone we meet but in Vertigo, we see what happens when one is truly lost in it – vertiginous!
I am joining you in Le Cri for another scorching day.
Oooo – must discuss Vertigo sometime!
Definitely!
The first time I saw Vertigo I hated it, because I was too young and unsophisticated to understand it. Now I think it’s a masterpiece, and that scene where Judy just completely gives in to Scotty is almost physically painful to watch — Kim Novak was a somewhat limited actress but she’s perfect in that scene, so emotionally desperate and raw, and Jimmy Stewart so single-minded and manipulative.
Totally. He can’t see anything else and she can’t bear the fact that he doesn’t see her unless she becomes his good object. It reminds me of Carly Simon singing “I’ll be your Mary Magdalene, your foul mouthed marine to please you.”
My homage to all the cooly poised, remote yet daring blonds in various Hitchcock movies (Marnie, Madeleine, Eve, Lisa, Melanie et al) is Chanel No. 19.
I wish someone provided me the $$ so I could dress like them. There’s not a movie in there where I didn’t drool over the clothes. From that pale green suit Lisa wore in RW to that incredible red/black dress Eve Kendall wears in NxNW.
Our pontoon ride was wonderful yesterday. Weather turned perfect. A charming lake – my goodness what a joy to have a lawn leading down to the water. (Although I’m perfectly content with my woods). And I came home with a recipe for slow-cooker ribs and a couple of huge zucchinis. Guess I’ll be making bread.
This zucchini gazpacho is my favorite way to use up summer squash:
https://www.markbittman.com/recipes-1/gazpacho-12-ways
Could not be easier, plus virtually no cooking, and cold soup for steamy nights. (I roast the zucchini rather than cooking on the stovetop.)
Thanks!
These recipes are awesome – thanks so much!
Former theater/film kid here:
All of those clothes were especially designed and sewn to fit those amazing actors. That, and underpinnings! It’s why (ever dwindling) department stores have tailors in house- so that you buy the clothing and get it altered to fit.
Yes! Miss those days of elegant department stores.
I feel accidentally on point at my perfume this morning is “Chronic” by 19-69, which sounds like the name of a Hitchcock film at least. There was a movie made several years ago by that name starring Tim Roth that was creepy and unsettling. And, I along with my husband and younger son are left-handed. . .
We are heading up to Sacramento this afternoon to pick up our younger son from his summer residential/life skills program. I haven’t seen him in person (but Facetime is amazing!) in eight weeks! And, Sacramento is supposed to reach a high of 98 degrees today, which thrills me to bits (tugs on sleeves of sweater and shivers).
Yay!!! Enjoy seeing your “boy”!
Wow, 8 weeks! Enjoy your reunion and the warm-up.
Oh, how wonderful to be able to hug your son today!
Wow. 98 is a cold spell in Sacto. Enjoy your reunion.
Safe travels, and enjoy your reunion!
Happy Friday everyone! We are already in the evening so all hard work done here. I loved reading everyone’s choices above (the real and imaginary ones) – perfect!
Great theme, I grew up watching Hitchcock films which might explain a couple of things? Grace was the epitome of Hitchcock blonde, but I also loved Ingrid Bergman, Tippi Hedren & Eva Marie Saint. I think the latter did only one movie with AH (North by Northwest, among my favourites with Rear Window, Notorious, Rope and Vertigo).
I probably should have opted for Vega or no 5 eau premiere to honour the icy blondes but instead I am wearing Sundazed by Byredo. It fits the theme because the ”B” in box actually looks like 13. I have been debating whether or not to keep this for a year but around noon I ended up listing it for sale earlier today. Too much white musc&cotton candy for me.
Glad you liked the project, and do enjoy your last wearing of Sundazed, even if you don’t adore it 🙂
It’s Friday the 13th and wearing no 19 in edt form. It’s always Friday the 13th when all the crazies go grocery shopping and I need extra backbone.
Ha – I’ll be grocery shopping today. Hopefully not adding too much to the craziness!
Yesterdays SotD was tuberoza. Today I’m thinking either Nightingale for the coca cola vibes made out of lemon + saffron. Or Chinatown again since I ordered some chinese food for lunch:) I will see post shower since I am still in my jamas.
Chinese carry out is the perfect lunch! And in your pajamas, even better 🙂
I have taken a note to my calendar on 08/20 there is no doubt I have to wear Tuberoza since that perfume is what made me a die hard tuberose fan.
SOTD is Rebecca Minkoff, for Hitchcock’s Rebecca. I love the book and the movie, and I love that the movie is as good as the book.
RM is mostly creamy tonka to my nose, with some sweet tobacco, and a sprinkle of cardamom. I’m not getting any leather, but perhaps it will emerge later. This is a cozy, curl up and read by the fireplace scent. I could also see it layering well with other fragrances that might benefit from a boost of creamy tonka.
Hmm, sounds yummy! Love that film as well. It rather haunted me as a child.
Mrs. Danvers is terrifying!
Yes!
Another yes!
She is almost as scary as the birds.
That scent sounds really lovely.
I haven’t seen the movie, but I loved the book.
Another awesome choice that I should have thought of! I like Rebecca Minkoff.
Don’t know Hitchcock well enough to know if SMN Acqua di Colonia would fit any of his movies — any shot in Italy? When it’s hot? Anyway, that’s my SOTD. Too hot here today for anything but that or maybe 4711.
Fingers crossed that the oven sitting in the middle of my living room will be installed today. Whether the electrician will actually turn on the electricity to anything is a different question (the designer had told me to use the cooktop because it’s hooked up…it may well be hooked up but there’s no electricity going to anything on the wall and it’s not b/c the circuits are off). Renovation glories.
Fingers crossed for a working kitchen soon…
I don’t believe any Hitchcock movie is set in Italy, but he and his wife Alma spent part of their honeymoon in Lake Como — will that do?
🙂 Thanks for making me CP-compliant!
Now that it’s worn off, I’m debating whether I just throw in the towel with all the smoke in the city today and double down with an über-smoky perfume.
We’re having a smoky day here on the island as well. It’s overcast now and thankfully it never got as hot as they were predicting. Hope you have a working stove!
My favorite Hitchcock is The Birds. I’m a horror fan in general, but I always love what I call “coastal horror”. Not quite beachy, but where there’s a sense that the unknown hovering in the air with the brine. The Fog, Dead and Buried, The Lighthouse…but that’s why I gravitate to The Birds.
Unfortunately my taste in perfume is completely different and I don’t care for aquatics but I do have a decant of the salty-strange Womanity which, now that I’m wearing it, seems like the right choice.
The Fog. Creepy one. I too love The Birds. Brilliant movie. We drove around once, finding the locations. Bodega Bay hadn’t changed as much as one would expect.
So did you like the Lighthouse? With Robert Pattenson and Willem Dafoe?
I just could not get into that movie. I am not that academic or an intellectual, I’m afraid….
I loved The Lighthouse! I loved the strangeness and the vaguely homoerotic descent into madness. I thought it was hysterical.
I’m with you on The Birds and The Fog.
TGIF! Leftie here!
I failed at today’s CP. I am wearing a 3-4 spritz of Carolina Herrera’s Oud Couture.
But points for leftie-ness 🙂
Happy international lefthanders day! I’ll be wishing my mother the same shortly as she is among that number. I’m failing on the CP (I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Hitchcock film, clearly I need to remedy that). SOTD is Slow Explosions again, I have a phone interview for a job in about an hour and I needed something that would pull me out of my anxiety and remind me that dang I smell good!
Good luck with the interview!
Thank you! I got a second one next week, so I’m excited!
Congrats on the second interview!
Thank you!
Woo hoo!!!
Fantastic — go you!
Thank you!
Woot! Good luck to you!
Oh, that’s good news! Good luck on the next interview!
Best of luck!
Thank you!!
Good luck with Interview #2! ???
I’ve been waking up way too early all week and have been mentally foggy because of it, so I will steal the Le Dix idea for today’s theme rather than tax my weakened imagination. Hot again here today, but things will (allegedly) start to cool off tomorrow. Hope everyone has a lovely Friday and weekend!
Hope you can sleep late tomorrow SheriG!
Heat AND smoke AND our dishwasher not working. Happy Friday anyway.
I’ll be in TDC’s Sublime Balkiss, my super hot weather fragrance. Something about it cuts through the heat and feels clean and sharp (which I want when I’m hot and sweaty). Practiced yoga this morning despite everything and it was good.
Oh, but on the plus side, I’m left-handed and I love that we get a special day.
You smell really good today
You smell great and I’m impressed with your yoga! Thank you for reminding me how good Sublime Balkiss is in this kind of heat – another one for the arsenal.
Ugh. I hope that your dishwasher gets fixed ASAP!
Waving at my fellow southpaws! The heatwave continues here, and am still in chilled Mandragore.
You do smell great AnnieA!
First, need to say how I’ve enjoyed Allium week in the title photos!! I must get some of those giants and plant them for next year. I have one little allium from my sister’s yard, the loan survivor of the gas company’s line upgrade directly under where they were planted. (BUT yay for gas company for giving me a new line, right?!) SotD YSL Cinema. Going for CP since it reminds me of seeing “Family Plot” in a big screen theatre when it debuted, and while still a teenager, feeling adult and all I’m at a big event. 🙄
Ditto on the allium comment. I keep forgetting to send Robin my kudos.
Thank you both!
I wonder if alliums grow well in container gardens?
Happy Friday all! I’m not a Hitchcock fan, but meet the CP by six degrees of separation.
My SOTD is Henry Jacques Femme, sold to me by a Kim Novak-inspired sales associate many (many) years ago in San Francisco. I hope that counts! 🙂
After the 60 minutes of cardio (20 minutes each of Stair Master, bike, and running) – I went to bed at 9pm yesterday got a full nine hours sleep, feeling surprisingly well-rested. I should do that more often.
I am so very curious about this sales associate…
Vertigo is worth watching if for no other reason than the gorgeous street shots of mid-50s SF 🙂
Terribly envious of your nine hours.
Agree…so neat to see the city in that movie.
The various scenes of SF are amazing!
OOOOH! Did the Kim Novak SA have Violet Blonde hair?
Yes! They did! Chandler Burr even mentioned them in a writeup of HJ parfums and his visit to SF.
SotD = Seville a L’aube
because it was the first perfume I thought of with a place name and for Hitchcock’s Vertigo. I think there is a Spanish mission (located in California) used for a setting in that movie.
I’m a lefty when I write with a pen or pencil, use scissors or a paintbrush. I do most other things the righty way — catch and throw a ball, knit and crochet, play the guitar, and so on.
Robin, you smell like a glorious summer day. 🙂
It’s a right-handed world, my mom was a leftie and she was always complaining how door handles weren’t on the proper side.
ha! I can relate. Sometimes the world feels a little too righty for me. 🙂
It’s funny, I’m the mirror image of you! I write with my right hand but do all other tasks with my left.
cool! 😀 I wonder if you had been encouraged to use your left hand for writing if you might have been all lefty all the time?
I see eye doctors who are mirror image twins – one is left handed (the surgeon specialist) and the other doctor is right handed (the cataract and glaucoma specialist). They mirror each other in other ways too.
I find it all fascinating!
Great choice! There are two missions in the movie. Dolores, in SF proper and San Juan Bautista south toward Salinas. We have a tile depicting the latter.
nice to know! 🙂 thank you for mentioning those missions, I just looked up pictures of both to jog my memory of the movie.
My leftie kid was always encouraged to do everything left-handed, but at some point early in elementary school she threw in the towel on scissors and cuts right handed.
I never knew that things as simple as pencil sharpeners and rulers could be tricky for lefties — either that, or there’s a really good leftie marketing gimmick. We found a leftie store in Erfurt years ago, and they had all of the above in left-handed versions. I’m not sure the pencil sharpener really incented my kid to sharpen her pencils more at home (which was expected by her German teacher), but we got at least a week of guilting her about it out of the purchase.
A ruler for a lefty is an idea that makes sense to me. 🙂
I’m right handed, but have always opened combination locks with my left hand. Dunno why, except that it is easier for me to do so.
that’s something different! 🙂 I had to think about it, but I’m pretty sure I would do a combination lock with my left hand.
Wearing Cinema to honour Alfed Hitchcock. Favourite films are Rear Window which always reminds me of summer in New York and Shadow of a Doubt. Enjoying all the associations between perfumes and movies today.
Two of my favorites also.
Shadow of a doubt is often overlooked, Joseph Cotten is brilliant in it.
I second this!
CINEMA! Brilliant
Thank you Portia, it solved the problem of choosing one particular movie.
Hi, Cinema twin! I just happened to see my bottle when putting some other bottles away this morning. I thought, let’s not overthink this and gave myself the Hajusuuri-level spritzing! ‘Cause Hitch was always over-the-top! 😀
Hello twin ?
Ha! Just saw this comment!
?
Very clever take on this CP!
Thank you Jalapeno, that way I didn’t have to choose a specific movie and Hitchcock is such a legend.
You smell good! (and it’s a good connection)
Cinema is a sleeper.
*Waving at lefties* Though I’m a righty, I wrote my doctoral dissertation about left-handed performance on a psychological test, and have always had much sympathy for lefties in a mostly right-handed world. I’m wearing Prada Infusion d’Oeillet because I wanted to smell like carnations today. I can’t tie it to my favorite Hitchcock movie, which is Lifeboat. No flowers in the boat and Constance probably wore something Guerlain.
Constance was definitely a Guerlain girl. 🙂
In Lollia Relax for no reason other than it was calling to me
That’s all the reason you need.
Best reason of all!
SOTD = Gallivant Bukhara
Woot! So nice, with fruity rooty iris that dries down creamy spicy woody ???❣️
https://www.instagram.com/p/CSgsErALu1Z/?utm_medium=copy_link
I wish AH would have made a film set in Bukhara. In other AH news, does anyone remember the book series “Alfred Hitchcock and the Three Investigators”? I loved the series, along with the usual suspects Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys and the Bobbsey Twins!
I went out to get my lunch and surprisingly, not as humid as yesterday but the sun beating even for a few seconds felt pretty brutal!
In commuting woes, you know your mask is not foolproof when someone rips a silent but deadly fart riding the train and you’re stuck with that smell permeating your mask and there really isn’t much you can do about it.
We have a new senior pastor and he is making his presence felt. Other than noticing a lisp, I have no comment for or otherwise. Plus, it’s not in my place to judge (and truly not being judgey at all since I’ve only heard him preach once).
Sorry about your commuting woes, but I admit I’ve missed hearing about them.
Ha! Thank God I no longer take the PATH!
HA HA HA HA HA! Train farts = HELL
So true!
This is what I don’t miss about train commuting. At All.
(Remember, your mask is to keep OTHERS safe from your aerosolized droplets- you can still smell through the mask. Sorry.)
As usual, you happen to smell lovely!
True; however, the thing is, this also means that whatever I’m expelling is swirling through the ether as well so I don’t see how that keeps others safe from me ??♀️. Best thing, I suppose, unless there’s truly an organic issue with taking the vaccine, is to get vaccinated.
Like LizzieB, I have missed the funny commuting woes! Lol.. we appreciate you taking one for team laughter!
Thanks!
Oh, the senior pastor had me think of this
https://youtu.be/nEe1cTDbXHU
This is too funny!
Count me as part of the group LOLing at your SBD woes! I recently had the opposite experience. I smelled someone’s perfume thru my mask and had to compliment them on it! It was a welcome change from airport funk.
Speaking of perfumes, someone wearing a strong musky, leather, ashtray smoke must have passed by the hallway outside our door but which hallway I have to pass to get to the ladies room. It was way too string and not one I would consider a good smell ?
Ashtray is never a good thing in my (aromatic) book. Ugh!
I also thought of the blondes in Hitchcock’s films. I decided to salute them with Beige, which seems classy and beautiful enough. My favorite Hitchcock film is Rear Window, and my favorite Simpsons episode is their spoof of it.
Yes, Beige is a good one for this CP!
In Oud Ispahan by DIOR tonight.
Tenuous link but in 1964 The Alfred Hitchcock Hour presented Bed of Roses where a married man finds his beautiful mistress murdered and flees without reporting it, only to become the victim of blackmail.
Oud Ispahan is a bed of roses with the dark underpinnings of oud so it fits both the Hitchcock title and the Friday 13 spooky horror.
Ah, but I like that link! And wish it were easier to see all his TV work. If it is online somewhere I am unaware of it.
Hey Robin!
YAY! So glad the link works well for you.
There’s nowhere that the info is all together in an easy to read format that I know but IMDb is good for specifics.
I like the link too!
Thanks Undina. XXX
As I logged in, there was a heat alert that came through my phone, advising people to go to a cool place. Smoke arrived last night.
It’s Friday the 13!
1) SOTD: Neon Rose by Floral Street. Very fresh and rosy to cut through the oppressive nature of today.
2) Gonna take the rest of the day off and daydream with big glasses of iced hibiscus tea.
Hope you are sipping that tea with your feet up 🙂
Hibiscus tea sounds refreshing .
It is refreshing, and I brew mine strong with ginger and brown sugar so that I can serve it over a lot of ice.
It’s also VERY good for you as well- lots of antioxidants!
Stay safe!
Am I the only one not to have seen a Hitchcock film? I do know he made The Birds, due to the many animal lovers in my life. I’ll play with Rose Apothecary, a nod to Moira’s Crow sequel. The crow’s have eyes!
No shower yet, I feel like a celebrity. I’m just going to get gross in our 100 degree weather, and that was this morning. Not trying to whine, just thinking about the winter and how fast it comes.
Happy weekend!
Literally just Lol’d at “I feel like a celebrity” ?
HaHa! Well played for the CP!
LOL at feel like a celebrity! Yeesh!
Love your CP connection!
Happy Friday!
I am in L’Initial which is, to the best of my knowledge, the 2021 rerelease of Shalimar Parfum Initial. I never bought the latter after it was discontinued and went for crazy prices on evilBay and am glad I didn’t as this smells the same to me…good things come to those who wait…sometimes… 😉
I am always intrigued by Shalimar flankers…and I always remember Gaia Fishler saying on The Non-Blonde that she “never met a Shalimar I didn’t like.” I find I like all Shalimars I’ve ever gotten without ever paying some huge premium.
I remember that as well and feel similarly. Also have a sizeable collection, all from ebay, mostly purchased for well under $40.
I’m in a tiny dab of Black Orchid today. I am matching it to the house in Psycho.
I went to Ulta today and there was an elderly couple holding an empty perfume bottle, asking where they could get another one. I was trying so hard to see what it was, without looking like a Psycho myself. Lol… eventually they left empty handed and I just had to know, so I asked the SA. It was Ciera. I wish I would have stepped in, because I could have told them to go to the area Rite Aid to get it.
Aw, hope they find a bottle!
Me too.
Me being an extrovert, I would have asked what they were looking for and mentioned RiteAid although, come to think of it, maybe it was a gift from the man to the woman and he may not appreciate her knowing it’s a drugstore perfume. BTW, nothing wrong with drugstore perfume but as a woman, I would rather get something from a department store.
I love some drugstore perfumes, but agree the department store ones make much better gifts.
I should give my bottle of Black Orchid a sniff one of these days. It’s been a while since it has seen the light of day.
You made me think of a song again. Lol

You smell fab.
Thanks KellyC!
You smell good!
Same as hajusuuri, I would have asked directly 🙂
I know.. I am just so shy sometimes.
Said to have been inspired in part by Ingrid Bergman’s role in Hitchcock’s thriller, ‘Notorious,’ my SOTD is RL Notorious. (Also supposedly inspired by Faye Dunaway in ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’ and Lauren Bacall in ‘The Big Sleep.’). I love its classic black-and-white bottle, the black currant top note and the interesting chocolate Cosmos midnote, like a light white chocolate. There’s also a bit of pepper and a bit of floral. I usually only wear this one in the winter but am finding it quite enjoyable and not too heavy for a beautiful summer day.
Like many of you, until today this week in the Chicago area has been brutal weather wise – extremely hot, extremely sticky, and extremely stormy. Coupled with another week of bungle-ups on a variety of fronts, I’m glad it’s over and am happy to report we are finally enjoying our first weekend getaway since the pandemic began. We’re in beautiful sw Wisconsin attending a folkfest at an organic farm and sanctuary complete with restored barn. Some of our favorite musicians are here, the setting is mostly outdoors, serene and peaceful, with delicious local food on site and a campfire tonight complete with S’Mores. I’m so looking forward to no chores for a whole weekend, leaving the world behind, and just enjoying myself!
Wishing an enjoyable weekend ahead for all of you, too!
Oh, and Madtowngirl, I hope you saw me waving ? to you as I passed by!
Hurray for your weekend getaway! Have some fun for me, please.
Oh gosh your weekend getaway sounds fabulous! Enjoy!
Have a great weekend, it sounds lovely!
I know that I’m hopelessly late, but I just finished the last meeting, and I was adamant that this week I would post 🙂
“Birds” was recently on my mind: there are dozens of crows around here now, and a couple of days ago, as we were walking in the neighborhood, they were flying above us – and it was scary. We were sure that had they decided to attack, we wouldn’t have stood a chance. But none of my perfumes fit this association.
Wearing SL Jeux de Peau – because of the Hitchcock’s movie The Skin Game (which I haven’t seen), but that was the only connection I could come up with – and I wanted to participate in the CP.
We can be hopelessly late together!
Thanks! Now I feel better 🙂
Woo hoo, you made it ?
I must say that it’s mostly thanks to you: your IG posts remind me about the CP even when I don’t have time to check out the daily thread.
It’s weird, isn’t it. I always feel like a naughty schoolboy when I miss the first couple of hours. Seeing you get on here late and the universe didn’t implode makes me less wary of doing it at a later date Undina.
The Skin Game is an excellent title.
Portia x
We should keep meeting later (and for you it’s much later): who knows – maybe we’ll extend the duration of the thread 🙂
Whoo boy am I late today! Hopefully someone is still reading…
What a crazy day today was. Late afternoon vet appointment for Teflon kitty went well. She didn’t need any shots and is in great condition. Even the rush hour traffic wasn’t as bad as it could have been.
Then shortly after I got home with my complaining kitty, my phone went off with my brother’s ringtone. It’s far earlier than when he normally calls, so something is up. Good news: my brother got his COVID shot today! He’s been a little skeptical of it, but I know better than to get up in his grill about it. He did his own research and was finally able to get a walk in appointment. Bad news: an employee at my Mom’s skilled nursing facility tested postive for COVID. So it’s gone into lockdown, and no visitors are allowed. Medical personnel will go about their jobs, though. Not sure how long the lockdown will last.
Friday the 13th indeed.
SOTD = Encens Jinhae again. Not going along with the CP since it was filthy stinking hot today, plus I was a little nervous about wrangling Teflon for her vet appointment. That turned out to be so easy it was a non-event.
Great news about the vet appointment going well and your brother getting the jab! Hopefully COVID doesn’t get bad at your mom’s place!
I figure my brother will keep me updated about my Mom’s place. It does have a good reputation for how it has dealt with the pandemic thus far… ?
As far as Fridays 13 could go, it’s not all bad, right? Happy for your kitty.
I hope your mom is safe, though I’m a little bit confused… now, after the most vulnerable people were possibly exposed inside, they are locking them, again, inside to… what? Not to possibly expose the outside people? I’m sure there’s a logic somewhere in there, somebody just should explain. Do we have a mandated quarantine for other people as well if they come into a contact with an infected person?
Anyway, I hope it’ll resolve soon.
My brother told me that the lockdown is a CDC mandate. Don’t know if the employee was on the assisted living side or on the skilled nursing side, or moved between the two. That kind of info probably doesn’t get released. Starting tomorrow, they will test residents and employees to see if the infection has spread. My brother and I had to fill out paperwork when my Mom was first moved there for contact tracing purposes. In case something like this occurred.
My guess would be to prevent outside spread, though.
Fingers crossed for your mom staying safe!
Good to hear the vet appointment went well. I still laugh every time Teflon kitty is mentioned. I just love that name ?
Thank you lillyjo! Teflon’s name does suit her, believe it or not.
So good that Teflon kitty came through with flying colors! And your brother being vaxxed – woop woop!
I hope your mom continues to stay safe.
Thanks. The vet has noted a couple of things about Tef that we are keeping track of. I have a couple of prescriptions of hers I need to fill sometime in the near future.
Yep, still reading.
Woo Hoo for Encens Jinhae Jalapeno, It’s lovely, isn’t it.
Good news about Teflon kitty.
Portia xx
Thank you Portia! Yeah, Encens Jinhae is a wonderful sleeper scent. It’s been a soothing balm for me lately.
I got nothing for today. I wore Dodo because it’s a bird and The Birds. ? I do love Dodo though so at least I smell good even if it isn’t the best connection.
Hey you did all right with the CP!
Have you seen that beak?! I think a couple of those birds would be enough to horrify anyone 😉
I think it’s a great match!
Dodo is a bird and Birds!
Epic CP fail today on all counts. Was going to wear Superstitious for Friday the 13th but forgot. So now I’m wearing Jeffrey Dame’s JD Singularity — it smells just like original Coppertone! Very pleasant.
Superstitious would have been a great pick.
