It's (Teapot) Tuesday, plus World Industrial Design Day. (And a reminder: we're doing a special Thursday project to honor Estée Lauder’s birthday…wear an Estée Lauder fragrance, if you have one.) What fragrance are you wearing?
We've got another Excessive Heat Warning, so I'm doing day 2 in Carthusia Mediterraneo. Tea at the moment is Mariage Frères Lune Rouge.
Reminder: on 7/2, Donatella will be dropping by for the damage poll, so wear one of your recent purchases, and tell us why you bought it, and whether or not you have any regrets.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: Versace's Medusa D'or Tea Pot is $595 at Neiman Marcus.
Woke at six o’clock to a blissful 64 degrees, and opened the bedroom window as wide as it would go. Such a relief. It will be hot later, but nothing like the past two days, thank goodness. I may just follow Robin’s lead and spend the day in Mediterraneo to celebrate!
Hey (maybe) twin!
Our windows are all closed. Looks like maybe we’ll be able to open them on Thursday or Friday, in between rain showers.
Definitely twin – waving hello!
Glad to hear it’s cooling off!
Oh, SUCH a relief. Amazing how our predicted high for today of 95 degrees actually sounds bearable. Weird how the human body acclimatizes a bit – I actually felt somewhat cool at 80 degrees indoors yesterday, while our usual indoor temperature is somewhere around 72 (and anything over that gives me a hot flash!).
Glad you made it through! Enjoy the bliss while it lasts.
Indeed! All bets are off now, aren’t they – Oregon only surpassed by the Las Vegas desert yesterday. Who would ever have predicted such a thing? And what will August be like??
It’s very frightening.
BC surpassed Las Vegas, too — which is just crazy. Broke the all-time Canadian record for the third day running in the interior — 49.6 C, or 121 F.
DIdn’t it feel LOVELY?!
YES! Heavenly!
It was almost kind of nice at 7 this morning, but those temps are long gone now!
Cooler here by water, slept with no ac. SOTD will be maybe Paris Venise or Deauville.
Lucky you!
yep yep lucky me!
Wearing Hermes Un Jardin Sur le Nil.
The heat wave is hitting us awfully.
Happy Tuesday!
Yep, it’s beastly out. But still can’t beat the weekend that Kevin & Angie had.
We are fortunate we have not reached their heat levels here, so far. Crossing fingers ?.
Hope Jardin Sur le Nil can help you feel cool! We’re getting a bit of a reprieve at present — only supposed to be 92 today — but my heart goes out to everyone struggling with these punishing heat waves!
Ok, when I see a post that says “only 92,” I get a clearer idea of the kind of heat people are suffering under right now. (I’m feeling very lucky not to be in such weather!)
Well, it’s barely 70 right now and the 92-degree-ness won’t hit until mid-afternoon, so it’s not so bad right now for us.
Thank you, Isabella! The Jardin series is always very refreshing for very hot days and Sur le Nile is working beautifully today.
It is only 12pm here right now and temp is 92 feeling 101. It will get much worse later. Let’s hope we all suffering from these heat waves have a break soon. Stay cool!
Now that things are opening up I must smell your SOTD
I hope you like it when you have the chance to try it at the store. It is a nice scent!
That one is so good in the heat. You smell great!
Thank you! ?
The Hermes Jardins are a good pick for this heat wave, for sure.
Absolutely!
I need to get that one…have been thinking of buying it for many years but never have gotten around to it.
I really like it because it is pretty, very easy to wear and office friendly. I hope you end up getting it.
Commando still. It is very hot here like it always is around this time a year. Plan is to wear CdG Nomad Tea right after shower. I feel like celebrating Comme des Garcons lately!! ?
Always worth celebrating!
? yes for sure!!
Tea this morning was Harney Supreme Breakfast–am awake now!
Sharing a couple of coupon codes–25% off at Caswell-Massey with code family25 and $20 off all orders over $50 at Yves Rocher with code LOLE20.
California Reverie today.
Ha, I probably need a cup of that!
I once went to an open house for the home of the former Caswell-Massey CEO. She had glass display case of vintage C-M bottles, and they were gorgeous. I didn’t buy the house, but should have asked if I could buy some of those bottles! 🙂
Already showered with Bronze Goddess shower gel, sprayed liberally with Eau Fraiche and applied the body creme. I have the cooling spray in reserve for later.
The gardeners arrived early today as it’s going to be another scorcher!
My very rich and posh neighbors had their gardener out mowing for several hours in 105-degree heat a couple of weeks ago, and I couldn’t understand why they didn’t just pay the poor man for the day and send him home to be safe and cool. Though I don’t suppose they got so rich by being generous…
Oh no, that’s very wrong.
We are in a townhouse complex so it’s fairly quick when they do the lawns with their crew and equipment.
Our nickname for the gardeners where I used to live was Mo, Blow and Go. They were unbelievably quick and effective.
?
I’ll take that teapot..
Its hot here today too Robin.
Tea is a cappuccino with Almond milk
SOTD MFK one of the forte ones..
Reading Vanishing half
Watching the next season of Lupin
The Vanishing Half is on my reading list! Have you read Greyboy: Finding Blackness in a White World by Cole Brown? It’s quite good.
Thanks for these great reading tips! Need to start piling up the books now that the Euro soccer championships are about to finish (one more week to go). Vanishing half looks really intriguing, just have to find out if I can get it from somewhere.
Also, hello possible scent twin Aqua Vitae Cologne Forte was today’s choice.
I am watching the Euro Cup too…
Who do you cheer for?
Butting in here, the France/Switzerland game yesterday was incredible, did you catch it?
Not rooting for anyone, but enjoying the exciting games! My husband always roots for Germany because he lived there for a bit.
I loved the England /Germany game today . Sorry for your husband! I cheer for Italy, only because I study the language
Hi Tulipani, I missed the latest game as they begin at 10pm our time and I am unable to stay awake that long. I watched only the highlights of that game later. I hope the Swiss team does well, they have pulled up some surprises. I cheer for England though, my favourite since childhood:) Reasons unknown?
Adding this to the list!
I’m wearing another Nicolai creation, L’Eau Mixte, perfect for hot weather.
You smell great!
That’s a lovely one!
Oh, that one is wonderful! Perfect for summer.
Enjoying Un Jardin sur la Toit on this muggy Kentucky day. I live in an older house where the AC doesn’t help much upstairs. Going to the dentist this afternoon. Will probably decamp to the library afterwards for some cool air and do homework. Stay cool, ya’ll.
Jardin sur la Toit is so good! Especially on a hot day.
Hope that your dentist visit is an uneventful one!
I’m in Andrea Maack Dual, which I often can’t smell very much, but today it is blooming and I am enjoying the lemon. It was a souvenir from a trip to Iceland and it is supposed to evoke hot springs.
Glad it worked for you today, it must be nice to remember your trip. I would love to go to Iceland.
Good morning all! My SOTD is Estee Lauder’s Bronze Goddess from Tama’s bottle, layered over Jardin Sur Le Nil body lotion.
Enjoying a Salted Caramel Latte (double). I want to lounge about and read but I’ll turn on the work computer in a moment.
I think P67 wanted the roasted chickpea recipe, link is below. 🙂
https://getpocket.com/explore/item/how-to-make-crispy-roasted-chickpeas-in-the-oven?utm_source=fbsynd&utm_medium=social&fbclid=IwAR3z9tReyZwSWg4MMSmfo9TEOR6yxDaSa7GgVhRAY1su0kMByynSc784z-M
Now I am craving for salted caramel latte?. How come you all have so wonderful drinks and I never manage to produce anything else than a cup of coffee 🙂
You smell wonderful!
Thanks! I have all sorts of fun low-calorie recipes. My favorite is a dupe for Starbucks Frappuccino chocolate moka (recipe below). It’s 90 calories vs. 410 for the real thing. 🙂
I take my morning coffee seriously, my family’s safety depends on it!
https://youtu.be/Y5yy8_h6qnU
? Gotta keep your family safe!
Hahahaha that’s how I feel about my morning caffeine hit.
Mr. Teebear and I know not to exchange words other than “Coffee?” (code for “Are you also waking up now, in which case I should make coffee for two versus one?”) unless it’s clear we’re both in extraordinarily good moods ?
Thank you, watched and learnt (and expanded the shopping list?)
You smell great!
Thank you for the recipe! I saved it already and I will make a good batch this long holiday weekend! I will report back!
Thanks! And let me know what you think! I love switching up the recipe, so for Thai spice, I use Thai hot sauce, chili powder, and lime. For something sweet, I use cinnamon sugar instead of salty/savory flavorings. It’s a flexible recipe. 🙂
Ooh nice. I love a good roasted chickpea recipe. I make this one quite often as a veg meal option:
https://www.lcbo.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/en/lcbo/recipe/roasted-cauliflower-with-crispy-chickpeas,-spiced-tomato-sauce-feta/F201905022#.YNtbarcpA0M
Thanks for sharing the recipe. To my list it goes!
That dish sounds fabulous! I’ve bookmarked the recipe to try sometime. (No hot ovens for now though.)
Yum! Recipe saved to my Pinterest. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing your recipe! I’ll have to try it!
Ooh I definitely just saved that! Although in my case that serves… Well, me, instead of the recommended 6-8!
Food Lemming! I just got up and made a batch and it turned out very well; I think I could have roasted them a little longer. I used Spice Islands chili powder, and a bit more cumin, coriander and cayenne. BTW: I liked the tip about adding the spices after the peas are baked. I think that spices can get bitter in these roasting recipes. Thanks for sharing!
It’s the peak of of a little heatwave with 31*C right now.
I’m wearing Diptyque Eau de Minthe from a sample. I don’t know why but it reminds me of my dad’s Old Spice.
Scent: I’m trying out Imaginary Authors Yesterday Haze from a sample, and enjoying it very much. That travel bottle might be calling my name.
Weather: we’re in a pattern of daily rain and relatively mild temps. It’s not exactly cool out, but it’s mild enough that sweet-ish scents don’t overwhelm. But lack of sunshine is also happening, so I might start digging around in my collection for something to brighten up the day.
I like that one!
Hi, friends! A Friday visit from Donatella? Things have been changing around here at NST! (And has it really been a quarter since her last visit? Time passes oddly.)
I’m in OS Lumière Blanche, which I never hear about anymore but which I still love–gorgeous, sheer cardamom bolstered by spices and iris. I’m nearly back to normal since my surgery 2.5 weeks ago–still no heavy lifting or exercise, but I’m working full time again (from home) and the pain and exhaustion are largely gone.
Which is great, because I have exciting news! You may (or probably don’t) remember that I’ve now been engaged for well over two years, and honestly, I don’t see myself setting a wedding date for another two years (you have to figure everyone will get married in 2022, and I don’t want to set a wedding date where everyone will go, “Ugh! ANOTHER wedding this weekend?!”). So we have decided to have a miniature wedding this September! It’s going to be super low-key, parents and ~25 local friends in our backyard. We’ll ask a friend to marry us beneath a rented flower arch, get catering from some upscale Indian fusion restaurant (because that’s what we are, a mix of Indian and American 🙂 ), get a ton of flowers, play music from some festive Apple playlist through portable speakers, ask friends to take lots of pictures with their smartphones, and that’s it. Not terribly expensive, not terribly complicated.
Anyway, this has turned into a long post, but I’m excited about this! I’ll have a proper Indian wedding in a couple years, and I imagine my mother will demand the right to make the choices for it, but this will be a teeny, easy little ceremony where we can make all the decisions 🙂
Happy news!
🙂
This small wedding sounds really charming, maybe much nicer than a big formal one.
I think they will be very differently fun! A big, Indian blowout will just be a great party, but a little, intimate one will be more chill, personal, and emotional, I think 🙂
Very happy news! Glad you are able to do it your way:)
Thank you! I’m excited!
Congratulations! That’s wonderful. Very happy for you! It sounds perfect.
Thank you, LizzieB! I hope it will be 🙂
Congratulations! It sounds wonderful. As my friend (a ”covid-bride” too) put it, you have a practice round so therr will less stress for the main event. And at least double amount of fun and happiness:)
Ahaha what an excellent way to think of it! It definitely takes the pressure off 🙂 and yes, double party = double fun!
Great news! Congrats!
Thank you, pl67 🙂
Your plan sounds fantastic, and congratulations!
Thank you, TeaInTheGarden 🙂
That sounds fantastic! Mazel Tov!
Thanks, SmokeyToes!
That’s such wonderful news!
Thank you, Gail 🙂
Very happy for you, it sounds perfect.
Thanks Aurora, I hope it will be 🙂
Congratulations, Koyel! Your wedding plans sound wonderful. ?
Thanks, AnnE <3
Congratulations! Your miniature plan sounds perfect to me – my niece and her husband did something very similar (after having to cancel a planned June 2020 semi-destination wedding), and they’ve never regretted it.
Thanks! Oh how lovely; congrats to them 🙂
Congrats. I did the small backyard wedding 2x (once in each of our home countries) years ago and never regretted it… you make the day truly your own.
Thanks! That sounds wonderful 🙂
Congratulations!!
Thanks, Dorsey!
That’s fantastic news and a great plan!
Thank you, Calypso, I am looking forward to it! 🙂
CONGRATULATIONS!!! I must say, your plan sounds nice. I watch these Indian destination wedding shows on Netflix where the wedding lasts 7 days, there are multiple ceremonies and the cost of the wedding could have fed a small African country for a week. Great entertainment but it kind of misses the point, I always feel.
Thank you, Amyitis! I’m totally also going to have a proper Indian wedding (well, Indian American, so it’s only going to be like three days and have a teeny tiny guest list of ~200 people), but like you say, those are mostly entertainment. It’s rare to cry at a full-on Indian wedding 🙂 But this way, I get the intimate, emotional one, AND the big, fun one!
Congratulations! I’m in full support of a low-key wedding and yours sounds like it will be most lovely.
Thank you, tulipani! I think it will be 🙂
Congratulations, a lovely idea.
Thanks, Gaynor 🙂
Yay, so great! One our best choices for our wedding was to rent a sound system and have my husband make a “wedding playlist” to play in the background during the hangout times. I think it was important to him to have that project to contribute to the wedding, and it really was fun to have our own music as a mood-setter. So glad you get to have a celebration and don’t have to wait for another 2 years!
Oh how fun! Actually, maybe we will do that, or maybe we will do it in part 🙂 At the very least, we should pick out the playlist ahead of time, even if we don’t compose it ourselves!
Oh that is so exciting!!!
Thanks, Vee 🙂
This is great news and a wonderful plan! The Indian blowout will be great too, but you’ll have the benefit of actually getting married now. 🙂 Woot!
Thanks, cazaubon! Yes, I think they’ll both be fun, but it’ll be nice to finally get married, after being together for > 9 years!
Congratulations! Those small, outdoor weddings can be just as beautiful as the big extravaganzas.
Thanks! Or at the very least, intimate and wonderful 🙂
Wow! Sounds like fun! Congratulations on moving part of the ceremony ahead of schedule!
Thanks, hajusuuri! We’re excited to finally do it!
What happy news! Keep us posted as your plans come together. Oh, and I missed that: there will be lots of weddings next February 2, no doubt.
Thanks, MossyBerry! Will totally do it 🙂 We have very little time to plan, just 2.5 months, but in a way, that’s good, because it’ll keep us from going overboard!
Congratulations Koyel! Hubster and I had a very small wedding, and it was wonderful. We had the ceremony, then made haste to our favorite Italian restaurant and had dinner with all our friends and family. No cake, no fuss. It was perfect.
Thank you, Nancyleandros! That sounds lovely and perfect <3
Omg a fall microwedding!!!! Congrats! I think it’s an inspired idea and will let you and your guests relax and enjoy (and like you said, let you feel better about your mom making more of the choices when you do the traditional one later on).
Mr. Teebear and I likewise got married small-scale and told our parents “we’ll do a family thing later” which wound up being about 2 years after.
My mom has very firm ideas of what a wedding is that did not tailor with our own at all, and getting married quickly helped expedite my permanent residency application, so it was practical on two counts!
Thank you, teebear! Sounds like we will wait about the same amount of time for ours 🙂 Practical and fun all around! Yeah, I’m sure if we are relaxed, the guests will be, too!
Congratulations on your wedding news! Sounds like an awesome plan.
Thank you, NovemberRose!
Koyel, I am very happy for you!
Your plans sound wonderful.
Thank you, lillyjo! I am very excited for it 🙂
In Nicolai’s Angelys Pear. It was a GWP from Luckyscent. It’s okay.
I like it, not as much as some other Nicolaïs, but it is nice enough.
It cooled down here after a really heavy thunderstorm with torrents of rain, up to 40liters per square meter, so I wore Niki de Saint Phalle today. Thankfully no hailstorm, so my car was safe. But parts of the Opera roof flew away and it rained on the stage!
I’m sure that’s a huge nuisance for the opera house, but it sounds so wonderfully dramatic!
I just read about that in a German paper. There have been some floods and thunderstorms in Luxembourg as well, but as I am up on a hill, I have been fine so far.
Oh no! How awful for the opera. 🙁
Wow. It sounds like maybe you had some straight line winds in your area, to blow a roof off like that.
Niki de Saint Phalle is wonderful in any kind of weather! 🙂
Oh wow that’s crazy, but entertaining. Hopefully their insurance is good!
I think it’s a day for Kiss Me Intense, since it’s raining but not cold. Our backyard woods are unbelievably green today.
I’m looking forward to a day inside after a weekend red-eye flight and an all-day trek yesterday to get the car serviced. The best part of the day yesterday was discovering an absolutely wonderful taqueria in a mall. Street tacos as good as any I’ve had in CA.
Wore Chanel No. 19 yesterday and spritzed on Philosophy’s Amazing Grace Magnolia EdP while in Ulta, because it includes a nectarine note. At first sniff, I quite liked it, but the dry down was way too sweet and generic to my taste. $$ saved…
I’ve never had any luck with Philosophy’s perfumes. Like you said, money saved!
Sotd is Antonia’s Flowers Sogni del Mare – celebrating the marine air that blew in to bring us down to a lovely 72F.
Ahhhh, such a beautiful scent!
Wearing SMB Gelsomino, my box of mini bottles of La Via del Profumo arrived today and I am thrilled. The bottles are as cute as can be and the little box they came in is even more adorable. I will have fun with these.
SMN
Oh, have fun with your new goodies!
Not terribly hot here, but it rained half the night and now the sun is shining and the humidity is down to 98% so we have the air conditioner going just to dry the house out.
SOTD is 7 Virtues of Afghanistan Vanilla Woods, which is fine for here in in the air conditioning. It is a little heavy for a high summer scent, but I like it very much and it will remain in fast rotation, I think.
My work is crazy right now, problems with the systems which are requiring emergency reboots of servers, which will cause other servers to need to be rebooted as well, and it is nerve wracking, as the last time we did this, something failed and our core reporting function was down for hours and hours, not a good thing in a hospital setting… so, wish me luck. Hope it all goes smoothly, the docs get back to doing what they do with no more drama, and I plan on an aperitif at 5:00 of some nice chilled tart cherry juice with a big splash of sweet vermouth, and a slice of lemon…
Good luck today!
I’m glad you’re already fully imagining 5pm! I hope the thought of the day ending carries you through ok!
The reboots went ok, but didn’t totally fix the original problem. However, 80% functionality is better than 20%, from the docs’ points of view, so I am happy to not think about it until tomorrow, since I am not on call this week. The vanilla is still ticking along, close to the skin and friendly. Very nice! I would put this on the to buy list, but then I need to take something else off…. 🙂
Sending luck for the electronics, and a big “jealous” for that amazing-sounding aperatif!!!
That aperitif sounds wonderful! Sorry about the work stress, though.
Wild mint, burmese green tea leaves and white sugar is what I smell like right now!!
SotD is Nomad Tea as planned:)
Getting a little rain here in our subtropics and I am loving every second of it!!
Your scent and your subtropics and your rain all sound heavenly!
Awww You are so nice!! Thank You very much – definitely can’t complain 🙂
This morning’s perfume was Eau Premiere and I am in Happy Heart. It’s so hot and humid by where I live that I can’t wait for it to cool down.
Temp here is 95F (heat index 107), so we’re not out of the woods yet. Not as bad as PNW, but close. ? I’m thinking the best things I ever did was install central air in this house before we moved in.
I’m on a second day of Jean Marie Farina Extra Vieille by Roger & Gallet. This is fabulous in hot weather, and I plan to spritz with abandon.
Your weather sounds like a carbon copy of mine today.
Ugh. Has it cooled down at all yet?
Yeah, it’s dropped down into the upper 80’s now. But the humidity is still lurking out there, bletch!
? According to our forecast, we won’t have any relief until Thursday night. Hope you get some eventually, too!
If I ever move to a non-senior housing when the time comes, my list of must haves, among other things, is central air and at least 2 full baths. I want to add a walk up attic but that may be rare.
I think they are rare now. When I was a kid, all my relatives had walk up attics. It was so much fun to go up there exploring.
My house is from 1955, but I just have a crawl space attic.
I’m in Chanel Beige again.
We had lots of rain overnight and today it is gray and misty. The perfect kind of day to bake banana bread with chocolate chips, which is exactly the suggestion that I texted to my daughters who are home today. I’ll see if it’s waiting for me when I get home from work.???
Oh, very good luck to you!
Past the worst of the heatwave here…it’s supposed to stay in double digits.
Wearing L’air du Desert Marocain from a sample. Filing it into my ‘try again in colder weather’ bin.
LAdDM is wonderful in snowy weather, IMO.
My “try again” bin is overflowing; I’ll tackle it as soon as I’ve got the garage in order. LAdDM was an instant love, though, and I agree that it’s particularly nice in cold weather when you want to pretend you’re warm and dry.
Summer has not started in the UK, high of 17C today and rain but I know many of you have struggled with a brutal heatwave so I’m not complaining about cool temps.
I’m having a warming but fresh pea and mint soup for dinner and then homemade applesauce for my birthday, well with a few jaffa cakes (orange and chocolate mini cakes) to celebrate, real celebration will wait for the we.
Oh, E. Coudray Jacinthe et Rose, well, it’s mostly faded now but I like this perfume.
Happy Birthday and many happy returns!
And right now your temps sound lovely!
Thank you, I think of you all in the heatwave, wish I could send my temps your way.
Happy Birthday Aurora!
Thank you Gail!
Best birthday wishes to you, Aurora!! Enjoy your dinner.
Thank you Tulipani, I will ?
That soup sounds yummy, and those of us in the hot climates can enjoy a chilled version of it. Happy Birthday!
Thank you Calypso, absolutely, it can be enjoyed chilled as well.
Happy Birthday, Aurora!
Thank you Amyitis!
Happy birthday!
Thank you Gaynor!
Happy birthday!!
Thank you Vee!
Happy Birthday!
Thank you Hajusuuri!
Happy birthday!!
Thank you Cazaubon!
Happy Scented Birthday, Aurora! ?????
Love that line of emojis, thank you Jalapeno.
Happy birthday!
Thank you Austenfan!
mmm, jaffa cakes are delicious 🙂
hope you have a very happy birthday celebration!
Thank you, they are with that orange/chocolate combo.
Happy Birthday, Aurora! ???
Thank you so much, love the emojis.
Happy birthday! Your meal sounds delightful, hope the coming year is as well!
Thank you, it was a good dinner.
Happy birthday to you! I love fresh pea soup, and dragging out birthdays with multiple celebrations! 😀 May you have an absolutely wonderful year to come!
Thank you Isabella, pea soup is very good.
Happy Birthday! Sounds like a wonderful celebration dinner.
Thank you AnnE, it was very enjoyable.
Happy Birthday!
Thank you NovemberRose!
Happy Happy Birthday!
Thank you Lillyjo!
Happy birthday, Aurora! ??
Thank you so much!
Oh, enjoy part 1 of your birthday!
Thank you Robin, I did.
Tuesday!
1) 117F at my house yesterday! Blast furnace! Please spray a couple of spritzes out for my poor burnt garden! I am going to need to pull a lot of stuff out and resow/replant!
1a)It started to cool off with a marine wind sometime around 9 PM yesterday. I went out for a walk- it actually felt refreshing to step out in 80F! I opened all the windows and let the breeze come in. This morning it was 60ish!
It’s still going to 98F today. Oy Vey!
2) SOTD: 4711!
3) Am gonna use this afternoon after logging off to do a huge clean up- more cardboard trash was created when contructioning the IKEA island, and then there is the stuff itself. Gonna knuckle under and rent a skip, and then just move that stuff out of the house, along with some other junk as well!
I’m in total awe of your industriousness, you are amazing! And in the heat too. I would have had to take at least 2 days to recover from 117F!!
Well, the clean up is gonna be mostly inside, so there is that, and the major part will moving the stuff to the dumpster when it arrives!
Oh, the gardens! I have been watering, but clearly not everything is going to survive the week. I have some wild, “volunteer” crocosmia along our sidewalk that is nearly brown and dry as a bone. If it doesn’t perk up, I’m pulling it. Otherwise, it feels risky to have 3ft tall dried vegetation so close to the property. Did you see fireworks have been banned? I’m trying to imagine that in my old neighborhood–out south of Foster-Powell–where the illegal fireworks lite up the sky all weekend long every 4th of July.
Oh- the roses, lilies, hydrageas- all scorched; the fine herbs bolts and scorched; the salad greens all bolted, bitter and tough. It’s sad, but necessary to pull and put into the compost pile!
People will have their sparkly things that go pow pow and damn the consequences, even to their own safety.
Sounds more like sparky, no? ?
Oh, YOU!
I planted 6 new hydrangeas last fall, and none of them survived the ice storm this last winter. Now, I’m feeling better that I haven’t yet replaced them.
As for the fireworks, I went to bed every fourth of July at the old house, practically certain this would be the year my roof would catch fire. One year, I witnessed some kids throw a firework and it landed on my neighbor’s balcony while they were out. We had to call the fire department, and it caused some real damage.
Once upon a time in Mexico my then-boyfriend’s family and I found these little fireworks shaped like bees — you’d light them and they’d just… fly away, on fire. They went great with tequila, but I was 18 and not yet a firefighter so I was much more amused than appalled.
You smell great and 110% temperature appropriate!!!
We are once again having just torrential rain, and of course, the roof leak that was supposedly fixed is making itself known again in a big way. I have a warranty, but good luck getting the rather eccentric fellow to come back any time soon. With everyone dealing with this rain no doubt he’ll have other demands on his time.
Today I am re-trying Zoologist Snowy Owl. I have a couple of samples and when I first tested it, it did nothing for me. I could barely smell anything. Well, I sprayed it very liberally (about five big sprays) and now I am able to appreciate it. There’s a lot going on here according to the notes. Mint, coconut, iris, galbanum….. It’s a slightly sweet musky floral with a somewhat soapy note. This is definitely a “cool” perfume, something that seems good for hot weather. I’m going to give it more of a chance to develop. Worth trying, though I don’t think it will go on my “to buy” list.
Oh no, so sorry about your roof. I am crossing fingers that the roof of our new house won’t present me with similar problems, age of it is currently unknown.
That’s terrible about your roof and you called it right the last time it was fixed. I hope the warranty covers damaged personal property as well although that is probably a different insurance type.
Boo hiss on the returning roof leak! That sucks, big-time.
Ugh, what a bummer about the roof! Glad you’re getting to revisit a perfume and finding something new to enjoy in it at least.
Ugh, so frustrating! I hope you can get someone, eccentric or otherwise, over very quickly to fix the roof!
Snowy Owl reminds me so much of CB Black March — I don’t get many of the advertised notes and mostly smell sweet damp earth in it, but I happen to love sweet damp earth. I’ll have to try it again with a heavier hand sometime.
Oh gosh. Good luck with your roof.
Hope You get Your roof fixed soon!! Hey, that warranty means SOMETHING, right?
Oh Snowy Owl is a very important must-try for me. I just never get a chance to sampling it yet. The mint, coconut, snowy accord, iris… The notes sound irresistible to me!! You mention it is soapy – that makes me want to try it even more!!!! I may be weird but I love soapy notes in my perfume…
I’m so sorry, Calypso! You’ve had way too much trouble with that roof.
In Datura Noir. I hope things cool down for those of you suffering through these heatwaves. We couldn’t believe the Portland temperatures posted!
What do you think of Datura Noir? I keep almost blind buying it.
Hi! I think you’ll like it. If you like Juicy Couture and sweetish perfumes, you’ll like this. Mine is the new formulation (block letters, black box), though. I remember the old formulation as more creamy and coconutty – more heft. The new one is very pretty, a little bit too sweet for me at times (but I know you like Angel, so I think you should be OK). Sometimes I get a delicious note of incense, but only on some days. It is a pretty tuberose with a little SL “something extra”.
Sorry for the late answer!
118F on my patio yesterday and like Ede, some of my plants have suffered. In particular, the yellow raspberry canes look like they have been blowtorched. The leaves are curled, wilted, brown, and crispy on the edges. Even the stems look burnt. On the other hand, the zucchini are waist-high and thriving. I am so happy it will be “cooler” at 93F today. I’m still wearing Rhubarbe Ecarlate, it’s the only thing that appeals to me lately.
Oh. the zukes and tomatoes are LOVING IT. Just loving it!
And I feel you with the Rhubarb Eclarte- sour zesty and fresh is the way to go right now!
I hope your garden pulls through! My raspberries have gotten blast-furnaced, too, but they’ve put on some new growth with extra irrigation, and my tomatoes are like “Lemme at it!!”
Ugh, so sorry. Wonder if they will be ok next year.
Another cold day, but the worst of the southly storm should be over. Some days it does feel as if the Antarctic isn’t far away. My favourite winter perfume again, Chambre Noire.
You smell wonderful!
Good to hear that your stormy weather is moving along.
I have had a busy, productive but stressful morning, and have yet to settle on a SOTD. Maybe if I zone out for a while, something will speak to me. I went to bed last night with Gris Clair. Alongside the refreshing drop in temps others have mentioned, it was a nice way to end the day.
My day is shaping up to be super stressful! I hope you get to cool off and relax!
Thank you, Ede! I hope your stressful day settles into something more soothing!
SOTD is Chloe Nomade Absolu thanks to a sample from thoughtful Tulipani. I get lots of fresh plum, with oakmoss and some indistinct woody notes. Very pretty, and performing well on a hot, sweaty day. Has some ultra-fancy-guest-soap vibes, IOW, on brand for Chloe.
Had my first pot of Marco Polo tea today, and wow is it tasty!
Sounds similar to what I got from the non-Absolue version. I didn’t get any oakmoss at all, though.
The oakmoss is definitely just humming to itself in this one, not belting showtunes like it sometimes does
Ha ha — I like my oakmoss to stomp across the stage in red lipstick, trailing a feather boa behind it. But it sounds like you smell lovely!
Good to read your take on Nomade! I think the absolue version is my favorite, a little more depth than the other two. The EDT almost immediately turned into a shampoo scent on me.
Despite the heat (less than yesterday thankfully) I decided to go with the incensey Waft from the Loft. Got a compliment at lunch in a café, despite being masked, distanced and separated by a plastic shield. Maybe I overdid it?
We’re house twins and you sure smelled good!
ha ha, no such thing as too much perfume. 😉 You did everyone around you a favor. I’ve enjoyed smelling more scents in the air (perfume, people, food, flowers, trees, everything) as I’ve gotten out and about this week.
Fabulous perfume name, btw!
If it was a perfume compliment, no, you didn’t overdo.
So tired. Mr. Jalapeno’s stone removal surgery was scheduled for early this morning. And I was his ride to and from the hospital. I didn’t sleep well last night due to anticipation of today’s event. He was done and home by lunchtime. Still has some post procedure soreness.
SOTD = more Rock Crystal EdP. I think there is one more wearing in my little sample vial, and then I will have thunked it.
thunk! GO YOU!
hope you and your mister can take it easy today and feel better quickly. 🙂
My “get up and go” has gotten up and left! I’m going to be an epic-level couch potato for the rest of the day.
Wow! Glad it’s over. Here’s hoping for a quick recovery!
No cutting involved, thankfully. Mr. Jalapeno has been advised to drink lots & lots of water.
Wishing Mr. Jalapeno a very speedy recovery!
Thanks PL67!
So glad that the kidney stones are over with!!!! Swift recovery to Mr. Jalapeno and hope you get a good night’s rest to make up for last night/today’s stress.
Thanks teebear! Hopefully this is a “one and done” occurrence, and it won’t be an issue going forward.
You both deserve a big rest! I hope his recovery is speedy and permanent. Take good care of yourself; I know this has been a very stressful time!
Thank you Isabella! Looking forward to a (fingers crossed) quiet day tomorrow.
Glad to hear it all went well! Sounds like both of you need to get some rest now.
Thanks NovemberRose!
Good luck to him with the recovery! I hope you can rest well tonight.
Thank you lillyjo! He has a follow up appointment in 2 or 3 weeks with the doctor.
Best wishes for Mr. Jalapeño! And a good night’s sleep for both of you. ?
Thanks AnnE!
So glad the procedure went well! I’m sure you’ll both feel more like yourselves in the morning.
Thanks Nancyleandros!
Oh good. Hope things will settle down and be peaceful for you now!
Best wishes for Mr Jalapeno’s recovery.
SotD = Geisha Vanilla Hinoki
GVH came to mind during yoga with Adriene today. The urge to smell it was so strong I got off my mat for a spritz. Don’t know what’s up with me. I never interrupt yoga for anything less than an emergency. 😉
June gloom and temps in the 70s today. My feet are cold, so it’s time to warm up with a long walk then water the garden and pull some weeks. Tuesdays are my only truly quiet days this summer.
Oh, to be a kid again, when summer felt like an endless delight.
It still sounds like an endless delight by your enjoyment everyday!
It’s actually nice to hear of a place here in the States that isn’t roasting. But cold feet are No Bueno!
I love Geisha Vanilla Hinoki! I wear it to bed a lot, as I find it so soothing and snuggly and sleep-supporting. It’s one of the few vanillas that I don’t find cloying.
I’m sure summer lasted at least five months when I was a kid! My son’s summer vacation is only two months long and I think I’m going to have to pull him out of school in September so that we can get more summer camping in.
SOTD = 4160 Tuesdays Meet Me On the Corner EDP
Light, musky, orangey, patchouli and some florals. It’s so light that I topped it off this afternoon with 2 spritzes of Tom Ford Rose Prick. I may chance a shortish walk later today…

Did I mention I freaked out yesterday? No, not because of the timing issue with work deadline (not mine to fix no matter which way you look at it). The issue is with Blurred Backgrounds in Zoom. I definitely like the effect because it made me clearer, I think, given that the physical surrounding background noise was no longer there. When I used it yesterday, it somehow defaulted to non-mirror view so everything was opposite ?. I had to remove it because I was discombobulated.
I did a quick grocery and CVS run after bringing Mr. Jalapeno home, and wished I would have waited. I was very hot, sweaty, and irritable afterwards.
But you’re back in a cooler house, I hope!
Oh yes! But I am feeling a little wilted still. That could mean I’m in for a good night’s sleep tonight…
You didn’t warn me about the snake! Lol.
Well, it’s rained here on and off all day. I’ve made banana bread and have beef stew in the oven for supper.
The Wild One got groomed yesterday and they had her for the entire freaking day – ten hours. I’m not sure we’re going to use them again. Hubster suggested grooming her ourselves, and if we groom her three times, it will pay for the equipment. Has anyone tried to groom their own dog?
I have my energy back today. It takes me a day to recover from clean out activities. One more weekend and we are done!
SOTD is M.Micallef Gaiac, which was acquired by swapping with a wonderful NSTer. ?
Hurray for the end in sight re: The Great Home Cleanout!
Never have had a dog, so I am of no help on that topic.
Ten hours seems ridiculous. Poor Wild One.
It is ridiculous. We’ve had good luck with them up until now, so I don’t know what happened.
My husband and I did tackle home grooming on our standard poodle for a while. I know how hard it is to find a good groomer, but DIY isn’t something to be taken on lightly. It’s a big initial investment, and on top of that, it’s an investment in time. It depends on the breed. I was happy to give it up when we finally found a groomer we liked!
That’s good input, AnnE, thank you. I’ll give it a try, but really am not relishing the prospect.
Went for Yosh Sottile 1.61 today, which smells like a very fresh and cool rose garden.
Made good on a promise to do pizza this week with a giant cherry tomato, mushroom and bacon pie today.
Mr. Teebear complained about the heat in the kitchen when he came downstairs for two minutes to get an ice pop… And then realized he was treading on thin ice when I replied “Yes, I know… I’m the one standing in front of the oven.” ?
Managed to get outside despite the humidity/heat for a workout and even got some computer work done!
If those cherry tomatoes were at peak ripeness, you didn’t need any tomato sauce on your pizza pie. ??
Your pizza sounds like heaven!!
It’s still raining here, but more off then on now. I think tomorrow we are down to only a 30% chance. This weekend is supposed to be great though.
Alien leather version called my name loud and clear this morning. I forget how good it is until I wear it.
Glad to hear that you are drying out! And you smell(ed) fantastic today!
I just read that you’ve had flooding, I am glad that the rain is calming down, and hope your basement will dry off soon. The weather patterns are crazy.
