It's Tuesday, World Rainforest Day and Onion Ring Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm channeling Morocco courtesy of Parfum d'Empire Azemour Les Orangers. It's too early for Moroccan mint tea, so I'm drinking a few cups of Numi Chinese Breakfast to get my caffeine up first.
Reminder: on 6/25, we're marking Anthony Bourdain's birthday. Wear a fragrance that you think of as adventurous, or interpret this project in any way you like.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m wearing Eau de Cartier Goutte de Rose.
Which reminds me…it has been a long time since they did a new EdC flanker! And they are some of the few I like.
early start on west coast
small confession time…bought a travel size MM Autumn Vibes from Sephora yesterday.
SOTD maybe Kyoto.
Ha! I was tempted by that yesterday. Report back!
I shall!
Oh no, did I miss a discount on Autumn Vibes? Very interested to hear your take on it.
I’m wearing Lauder for Men, which is a nice scent of no particular distinction: it smells like a lot of other things from the eighties, which means it has citrus on the top and oakmoss at the bottom, and it smells better than a lot of things released since. No complaints from me.
I can believe it smells better than many newer things!
Continuing my sampling of perfumes from countries I haven’t been to. Today I’m in Anael from Valas Enchanted (Czech Republic). Headed off for an interview and then I will probably go explore a museum
Ooh, good luck with the interview and have fun at the museum!
Best of luck. A museum sounds like a great way to wind down after an interview!
Good luck!
Good luck with the interview! Enjoy the museum! 🙂
Fingers ? crossed for your interview.
Hope the interview went well!
Good luck with the interview! Let us know if there’s good news!
Hoping that your interview went well! ???
Hope it went well and that the museum was great!
I’m wearing California Snow today. Love this oddly grounding rose/ earth/ rocks scent.
Just finished the online portion of my blended learning CPR/ first aid course – skills class is tomorrow. Now I’m going to go buy some groceries and walk the dog before it starts pouring.
Have an excellent day everyone!
Hi sistine, I think you commented on the Vacation perfume before and I would be happy to send you some to try…email me if it was you and you’re interested! 🙂
It was – I will email you now!
Just back from early morning 4 mile walk and at my desk by 8! I’m minty and fresh in Guerlain Herba Fresca. I really love this in very warm weather (which we are having), but not quite as much when it’s cooler.
And speaking of fresh, can anyone recommend a favorite natural deodorant? I’m not loving the Liken that I just bought. Granted, I do walk/work out quite a bit so maybe my expectations are too high? I prefer either no scent or a light scent in the deodorant.
Your walk this morning sounds lovely, especially since it’s a little cooler today and so fresh. I’m looking forward to a run before work.
I have liked Necessaire’s The Deodorant. It has a light sandalwood scent and works well.
Have you tried Uneeda Burger’s onion rings? They’re pretty tasty.
Thanks – for both suggestions. I have tried the Uneeda Burger onion rings and thought they were good. I also like Kidd Valley, or at least the one in Kirkland’s were (it has since closed). I’ll look for the Necessaire deo.
I’ve used the Neccessaire Eucalyptus deodorant- it’s very lightly scented, but I found it effective. Corpus Naturals deodorants are also effective but have a stronger scent.
I find natural deodorants need to be applied more than once a day. I do like the Malin + Goetz Eucalyptus, and the newer (and cheaper) Secret Rose + Geranium, but on sweaty days I just wear my regular antiperspirant. I figure if I can fit in a natural a couple days a week, I’ve lessened my aluminum load by 2/7, right?
That makes sense – thanks!
I love Herba Fresca! It’s such a great summer scent. I drained at least three bottles of that between 1998-2001 ish.
I may drain this one fast if our summer is as warm as predicted!
I really like the Crystal Mineral Roll-On deodorant, which is natural (but natural salts so depends what you are looking for). Zero scent, great antibacterial properties, the roll-on makes it the perfect concentration.
I use this as well — love the no-scent formula and it works great for me unless I’m VERY stressed…
I like Ben and Anna natural deodorants, but I don’t know whether you can find them in the US.
Wearing Goutal’s wonderful Passion, a heady white floral with a lot of the bitter notes that Goutal used to do so well. While this is not my favourite Goutal (probably a tie between Mon Parfum Chéri, Heure Exquise and Songes) I do love this one and I appreciate how unique this is, I have nothing quite like it.
We basically do not intersect on Goutal 🙂
I know! Although I really like Ninfeo Mio, Chèvrefeuille and Sud as well.
🙂
Onion ring day. Huh, who knew? I can’t remember the last time I had an onion ring, but they are delicious!
I’m in VCA Neroli Amara. The next decant on the thunk list.
Onion rings can be delicious but I will say that i have trouble finding good ones. I don’t want triple the batter per tiny bit of onion, and doughy / greasy. I do want them crispy and light. Everyone once in a while I get a great one.
Mr. SmokeyToes loves onion rings, he’s always on the hunt for the perfect recipe.
Yes!!! All of this on the onion rings. The good ones are so good, and the many bad ones are just disappointment.
A good onion ring is very good indeed! However, a bad one is terrible.
I’m wearing a sample of CdG’s Comme des Garcons (it seems less confusing to just call it Self Titled, or #1). I love clove, but I tend to not like cinnamon or cardamom, so I wasn’t sure how this one would go for me, but it is so well blended with the sandalwood and labdanum that it works just fine. This is one of the few spice forward scents that I could see wearing regularly, although I’d probably save it for cold weather. It is unintentionally layered over Chinotto Dark on one arm, which is left over from last night, and together they smell like a fancy cola.
Drinking strong assam tea this morning.
Mmmmm, fancy cola. I only had one coffee today, so now I’m craving cola…
A fancy cola fragrance could be a great pick for summer weather.
Wearing the last of my second sample of Lubin Kismet, and once again, I am disappointed. So different from the other sample I had, it’s like they are not even the same perfume. I wonder if one of the samples was mislabeled or something. Relieved I didn’t spring for the FB. When this is all gone, I guess I will get one more sample to see. What I recall, I loved. What this is, seems generic, chemically and not very interesting. How odd.
In other news, my garden is growing in spite of varmint attacks. It looks like I have 3 tomatoes, or maybe 2 tomato and two tomatillos in containers that are going to make it, and many of my pea plants, while seemingly stunted are starting to bloom. And the arugula was loving the hot weather last week. Cooler this week will hopefully encourage the romaine to come on a bit. And the potatoes I put in free draining bags are growing like gangbuster. The squashes are still hesitating, but they are not obviously dead, so we will see….
My husband did not do a veg garden this year (and I never do) — I am missing fresh arugula!
That garden sounds amazing!
Back from a fun & relaxing vacation visiting my parents and a quick first trip to Nashville! Food was fantastic; heat and humidity, not so much.
SOTD: Vouloir Être Ailleurs C.G. which has quickly become a favorite
Vouloir Être Ailleurs should be the motto of those of us who can’t really travel yet. Sigh, am making do with “Selling the Big Easy” at the moment…
Oh, I did love Nashville the two times I visited! Sorry you didn’t get better weather.
In Nicolai’s cologne, Haute Provence. This decant is from someone on NST, but I am forgetting who. Just drained the sample and was looking up the possibility of buying a full bottle. It’s addicting. As a cheap thrill–very tempting. Anyone want to split? It works out to be about .65 an lm (with shipping and tax to me), plus my decants and shipping, so $8.25 for 5 lm, and $12.00 for 10 lm. CONUS folks, let me know if you are interested!
ann dottie eisenberg attagirl comcast dottie net
I’m interested! Will email later today.
Count me in too! It’s always fun to try new things.
‘ello allo! Please email me when you can. I just ordered– and if you have changed your mind, not to worry in the least!
Hi! Sorry you haven’t received my email. I sent it at 3pm PST but I’ll double check the email address and send again.
I just sent the email again but if you don’t get it, I can be reached at l e s l i c o r t h e l l aaat geeee male dottie comm
Just saying that this is a really lovely cologne. I’m not in on the split as I’m not in the US and already own a bottle.
Ever since someone mentioned that Costco has TF Lost Cherry for ~$100 less than retail, I’ve been super tempted, so I’ve been finishing off my delicious decant to stave off my urges (it might be $100 cheaper, but it’s still very pricey).
Today is my first day working again since my surgery on 11 June! I’m working from home on a computer, so it’s not so bad, and I’ve promised my fiance that I won’t overdo it if I feel tired. We’ll see how this goes 🙂 Yesterday I walked a (very slow) mile, so I think I’m ready.
I’m glad you’re feeling better! Take it slow and easy…
Thanks <3
Good luck! Walking a mile post-surgery seems like a great indicator that you are recovering well.
Thanks, missionista!
So glad you’re closer to normal, Koyel. And that fiance is taking good care of you 🙂
He really is 🙂 thanks!
Sounds like you are making excellent progress, Koyel!
Thanks, Jalapeno 🙂
Oh, great to hear!
Thanks, springpansy 🙂
It sounds like you’re on a good healing track! Be gentle with yourself, and I hope the transition back into working goes well.
Thank you, Isabella! I will!
Woke up in Coco Mademoiselle Intense this morning and now in no 5 edp. Yesterday was mostly decent and I haven’t even been at work 5 minutes and I want to kick people. Even when I told other to talk to the person who took the order, of course it’s my fault.
On behalf of people, I apologize for the poor treatment Dawn!
I want to kick people too.
Yuck. I hope you’re relaxing now after a long day!
Onion Ring Day! I have not had an onion ring in years. I don’t even know where to look, and I’m too lazy to make my own. SOTD is many sprays of Clementine California.
Right there with you — I am waaay too lazy to make onion rings.
Some foods, it seems like half the point is that somebody else has to make it for you.
well, yeah
Arquiste Vacation…notes are coconut, banana, pineapple, orange blossom, pool water, swimsuit lycra, and a playful touch of inflatable pool toy per the website.
Blind bought this and it’s a like but not a love so far…a bit too much inflatable pool toy maybe.
Pool water? Lycra? Are they detectable?
I would say pool water is in the form of mineral notes that Fragrantica cites…Lycra not sure…I do get inflatable pool toy. ehaeheh 🙂
I would be happy to send you some…please email me at sherainsocal at the gmail if interested. 🙂
Thanks for sharing your impressions on this one. I was tempted by the sunscreen, but if the fragrance has noticeable pthlalate-y pool-toy whiffs, I’ll pass.
Hi all! My SOTD is Jour d’Hermes by Hermès, I adore how light and refreshing this lovely scent is. It’ll last six or so hours, but it’s enjoyable while it lasts. 🙂
I had dreams of relaxing poolside in Florida, I think I need a vacation asap!
I adore onion rings, but they are so difficult to make well. And messy. A friend who is a Japanese chef once told me the batter and oil temperature are key to successful onion rings. Too much work for me!
Scent fraternal twins, lol. I’m in the absolute version today. You smell lovely.
Thank you! 😀 You do too!
Onion rings are aggravating for the home cook, in my experience. Better to leave it to the pros!
Fragrance: Nishane Wulong Cha. Really enjoying this one! I’m working from a sample, but I’m very tempted to get a bottle.
Choc de Cardin, another gem from the early 80ies. I bought it because it was dirt cheap, but it’s a nice citric and patchouli chypre. The original formulation must have been great.
Your bottle sounds pretty darn good to me.
In Jo Malone Tangy Rhubarb from a swap with Hajusuuri. I am so surprised about its longevity. Eight hours and I can still smell it thru my mask. It is so bright and refreshing. I am enjoying it a lot!
That’s amazing! Jo Malone is not known for longevity, especially a fruity cologne.
It is so weird. That’s why I am so surprised.
“Bright and refreshing” is an excellent pick to fight the summer muggies! Yech!
It is a good option for sure. I am glad we will have a nice break for the rest of the week, before the temps are back to the mid 80’s next week with that awful humidity.
I like just about anything deep fried, so I’ll eat onion rings if somebody else makes them. I’d rather have pakora, though — I wonder if there is a national pakora day? If not, there should be.
SOTD is BDK Gris Charnel, from the splitmeet. It’s my favorite of the ones I’ve sampled from this house. Notes from Luckyscent: Fig, Black tea, Cardamom essence, Absolute of iris, Bourbon, vetiver, Sandalwood from India, Absolute of Tonka bean.
Yum, pakoras are so good! So is Gris Charnel.
Can every day be pakora day?
SOTD is PdN Vanille Tonka because my decant is leaking and I’ve gotta get it used up. Was hoping it would make it till fall, it’s verging on inappropriate in the heat…but since my office is cold, it’ll be fine.
A bottle might be in my future. Hard to resist the 30mls.
Patricia de Nicolaï sure knows her perfumista market!
Jean-Louis Scherrer which made me think I should wear a suit with it and tonight I Profumi de Firenze Vaniglia del Madagascar for comfort.
I have not worn a suit in so long I do not remember what that might smell like 😉
?It’s green, a green chypre, too elegant for me.
Byredo La Tulipe for a sunny day at Butchart Gardens in Victoria. 🙂
Enjoy! Butchart Gardens is really a treat.
It was gorgeous and very fragrant!
One of my favorite places! When I was a kid I thought it was literally magical. (Like you could get into Narnia if you just turned the right corner…)
The rose garden was amaaaazing, you could smell it before you could see it, literally thousands of roses in full bloom. We had a wonderful visit, very few people were there.
Sounds like it was a beautiful day!
I went out early to the Apple store and I think my machine is now fixed. I forgot perfume so I stopped at a place and sniffed some bottles. I’m now wearing DS & Durga White Peacock Lily. I liked the name, the scent not so much. Extremely sweet. Violets, ambrette, whipped cream. It would make a nice dessert.
That sounds yummy, would not have guessed sweet from a DS&Durga.
Robin, you smell divine, of course! SOTD for me is Eau d’Hadrien.
You also smell divine.
Thanks!
Twins with you! I sprayed myself silly with Eau d’Hadrien.
Waving back at you – spraying silly is the best way to go with EdH!
I’m in Le Chevrefeuille now (post Herba Fresca), so joining you in the AG camp.
What is Le Chèvrefeuille (that accent is my ipad being smarter than me) like? I’ve had trouble with the AG line – EdH and Mandragore are the only ones so far that have worked for me. Not sure what the issue is … could be just bad luck thus far.
It’s very fresh, slightly citrussy honeysuckle. But fresh in a classy way, not in a chemical way. I think it’s lovely, and I’m not much of a floral person generally. I don’t know if that helps much.
Robin wrote a great review of Le Chevrefeuille that you could look up — to my nose, it’s bang on. Also heavenly.
The “weird” Goutals seem to work the best for me. I would put Ninfeo Mio, Mandragore, Musc Nomade, and Encens Flamboyant in that category. Not that there’s anything especially weird about EF, it just seems like an outlier from Goutal’s floral core.
I also liked Myrrhe Ardente, the root beer one. Wish I had bought some when it was around!
Ah, the Perfumista’s Lament.
Someone should set it to doleful music…
And so do you!
Good morning, all. I dreamt last night that our cats had destroyed our bedroom wallpaper – I was relieved to see it undamaged this morning. Celebrating that with Guerlain’s Encens Mythique d’Orient.
Fingers crossed that wasn’t premonitory in the long-term…… 🙂
You smell fabulous.
Good to hear that your wallpaper is intact!
Had a wonderful weekend! It was one of those ones where I am feeling deeply content with my middle age life, even if my younger self would barely recognize it. Brain ducks almost completely flown away. Wearing Jasmine de Provence to connect with my younger self and also because it just smells so dang great. I hope everyone else had an equally good (or better) weekend.
So glad to hear the brain ducks are fleeing! ??
I hope the brain ducks migrate somewhere far away!
Hurray for a good weekend and the flight of the brain ducks!
So glad to hear you had a good weekend and are feeling content. Avaunt, ducks!
Robin, your photo of the day inspired my tea of the day, Smith Teamaker’s Fez.
I impulsively signed up for scentbird a couple of weeks ago, and my first batch of fragrances arrived over the weekend. Today I’m wearing Cherry Punk. I like it a lot! To make some Tom Ford comparisons, it definitely reminds me more of a Lost Cherry with leather, rather than a Tuscan Leather with cherry (instead of raspberry). I’ll have to do a side by side comparison with Lost Cherry soon.
That tea sounds nice…I like the idea of a little lemon myrtle in the mix.
Cool temps (in the 60’s F) and rain for today. I’m actually not minding it for once.
Mr. Jalapeno is miserable today. If he does have a bladder stone, it is acting up again. No info from the C/T scan yet. I said yesterday that it was going to be an ultrasound, and that was incorrect. Hoping that this gets resolved ASAP.
SOTD = Guerlain Terracotta Le Parfum, from a decant that is almost thunked! I have a gorgeous bottle waiting in the wings from one of you wonderful NSTers.
Oh gosh, poor Mr. J!! I hope it gets resolved quickly. It’s hard not knowing let alone being in pain.
Thank you springpansy.
I hope Mr. Jalepeno can feel better soon and that his situation resolves easily!
Hopefully it doesn’t involve surgery. We just don’t know right now exactly WTH is going on.
Poor Mr. Jalapeno, healing vibes!
Greatly appreciated!
I hope Mr. Jalapeno feels better soon. Sending healing thoughts!
Those healing thoughts will come in handy for a while, thanks.
Bladder/kidney stones are no joke not fun and undoubtedly seeing him in misery is no fun for you either! Hope it gets sorted fast.
Just heard a few minutes ago that it’s a kidney stone, and that it’s too big to pass. ?
Mr. Jalapeno has an appointment with a laser next week.
Oh argh! Not that passing the smaller stones is ANY more fun from what it seems, but at least then there’s the possibility of it happening sooner rather than later. Sending you BOTH some mad sympathy!!!
Muchas gracias! It’s gonna be a long week.
Oh no! I’ve had a kidney stone; hope he gets relief very soon.
Thank you Gail.
Oh dear. Glad at least the appt is soon.
Just checking in late here to see how you and Mr. Jalapeno are doing. I’m so sorry to hear that he’s still having trouble and I hope the treatment can resolve it all quickly! Sending warm, healing thoughts to you both.
SOTD = 4160 Tuesdays Complicated Shadows EDP
This was supposed to launch yesterday in time with the lifting of COVID restrictions in the UK; however, we know that it was extended so who knows whether or not the launch has been recalibrated. I waited long enough so here I am!
I love it, but not as much as the Clouds Parfum. It is probably neck and neck with Clouds EDP so a pretty good showing nonetheless!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CQcUgPehEPG/?utm_medium=copy_link
Late to the party and will read comments in a bit!
lillyjo, to answer your question yesterday, yes, this was the errant shower gift thank you person. I did not say a peep ?.
4160 Tuesdays make a lot of things you love, don’t they?
Late to today’s party but was in SMN Russa for most of the day, which I go through heaps of every summer.
Sitting down with a gin, pom molasses and orange flower water cocktail now, and paired it with a spray of my Viktoria Minya perfume since it has blackcurrant and orange blossom.
Have we ever done a “match your perfume to your beverage” CP?
Oooooh, that makes me wonder if there is a perfume with hops in it! ?
That cocktail sounds great!
A very late post for me, but today is my 34th birthday!!
Late wishes for a Happy Scented Birthday! ????
Happy Birthday! I hope you had a wonderful day!
You’re still a baby!! Many happy returns.
Very happy birthday to you — I hope it was a great day!
Happy Birthday! May ???
Thank You so much, everyone!! It was a day of just caring for my toddler who skipped her preschool because of a minor throat virus (all tests for flu, staph or covid came back negative). But we did get haircuts!! Both my 2 year old and I.
