It's Monday, World Music Day and the International Day of Yoga. Plus, happy solstice and enjoy the longest day of the year (if you're in the Northern Hemisphere, that is). What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing a dab of Comme des Garçons + Pharrell Williams Girl.
Reminder: on 6/25, we're marking Anthony Bourdain's birthday. Wear a fragrance that you think of as adventurous, or interpret this project in any way you like.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Comme des Garçons Play heart t-shirts are $113-$119 each at Dover Street Market.
It’s a warm, sunny summer’s day, and I am perversely wearing an amber scent, but it’s Boucheron Trouble, unexpectedly light and airy, with a distinct root-beer vibe to it. (I’m not a coffee person, but I am also drinking root beer with lots of ice.) Not sure how they made an amber that’s neither heavy nor sticky-sweet, but they did, and I love it.
I can’t remember Boucheron Trouble, I must have smelled it years ago but I bet I would like it more now.
I used to have a bottle of it, red with a golden cap if I remember correctly with a snake on it. I liked it. Generally Boucheron fragrances are different and unique because they are so airy. Like feathers. I really love Jaipur and Jaipur Sapphire. Oriental, vanilla – yes, but very airy.
Root beer! I don’t remember the last time I had root beer, and now I need to fix that
I bought a bottle of that when it first came out, and loved it. But then a friend commented that it smelled like root beer, and I went off of it, and gave the bottle away. Wish I had it now to try again.
Whenever someone says something smells like root beer now, I figure it’s benzoin and I want to try it 🙂
Whew! I thought my nose was broken when I smelled root beer in Alien! ??♀️
I hate when that happens. ?
You smell fantastic, love Boucheron Trouble (and root beer).
It’s been an age, but I remember Trouble as being a spicy dark carnation.
Good morning. Well, at least i wish you all one. I am getting hit pretty hard with the Monday blues. Yikes.
I am in Zen by Shiseido hopefully I can find some peace later on in the day. ??
Fingers crossed for you happy888cat!
I often put this on at high volume to beat back the Monday blues: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dx97i0y868
Wishing you a much-improved day!
Hoping for a happier day!
Sorry about the Monday blues – I hope things get brighter as Monday gets closer to being finished!
When I need an emotional lift, I like to take out a few different perfumes, spritz them on a card strip, and then wave them around. It helps.
Here’s my take on a song to deal with the Monday blues:

How I wish I could go back in time and be a fly on the wall in the meeting where someone pitched the concept for this video…
Wearing Bois d’Iris by VC&A.
Such a beautiful scent – you smell great!
2nd. I need to dig out that bottle!
I love Bois d’Iris in the heat – makes the salty wood aspect come out more on my skin.
It’s a heat advisory day today! Forget I ever complained about my cold office.
Spent last night squinting at decant labels trying to make them out after one of them leaked and now I’m not even wearing any of them because I need a guaranteed hot-day winner. I chose Smell Bent Tea House. Lemon tea and shortbread cookies ?
Decant delirium ??been there
Wow Smell Bent Tea House sounds wonderful!!
Thunderstorm Watch here today. You aren’t alone with the gnarly weather.
We had HUGE thunder a couple hours ago. Very surprised we did not lose power.
I‘m going with Carnal Flower and claiming credit points because it sounds edible and meaty and is hedonistic – all of which I think Anthony would approve of.
I like that match! It’s also loud and unapologetic (in a good way), which seems right, too.
CP points for sure!
Yes he would!
The fog has come in and wrapped us in a blessful, soothing blanket after last weeks scorchness, and I’m watching a quail family with nine babies foraging in my front yard. Fighting back some internal gloom and missing my son, who’s with his dad/at camp until Wednesday — this is the longest we’ve ever been apart and there are only mundane things like work and grocery shopping and car smogging to fill the time. Doing my best to see the proverbial glass as half-full, and wearing rather a lot of Bronze Goddess since I find it simultaneously comforting and uplifting and since it suggests that someday, somehow, there might be things like travel, friendship, dance parties, love, excitement, or just looking fabulous in a bikini in my life again.
Enjoy the quail watching. Love that you get all of your description of Bronze Goddess 🙂
Baby quail may be the cutest things I’ve ever seen in my life. Hugs to you on a tough day!
They’re really ridiculously cute. Every year brings a new crop of them and they seem to love our yard. Eventually the whole extended family falls into a schedule where they browse their way through the front and cruise right past the living room window on the walkway, and we just love watching them! I find their little dust-bathing spots all over the garden — a little conical depression, always with one or two quail feathers resting in the bottom.
We have a little nest of quail next to the house too, they are sooo cute! Sending positive thoughts to you, things are going to get better!
Yay for having cute critters hanging out in your yard!
Spent all day yesterday and this morning in Lyric. Since I am dreading work for some reason, I am wearing a dab of Mitsouko for some backbone. I think it was how hellish Saturday was.
Ugh, sorry about the hell and the dread! I hope Mitsouko helps you sail through the day!
It’s yet another scorching day here. We spent the weekend mostly indoors because it was so hot but I managed to do 2 lazy bike rides closer to sunset when the temperature was lower already.
SotD is Jacques Fath Green Water.
PS. I decided to host a split of Diptyque Ilio after wearing it a bit in this heat.
Glad you managed to get out even briefly!
Hello NST! Long time no sniff!
Today is expected to reach record temps in Portland. I should probably go put some water on my flowers before things really heat up.
Fun project, I will have to give it some thought. I think @ak_rina is on the right track with Carnal Flower, and that sounds pretty extreme to wear in 100 degree weather, so I will not likely attempt compliance today! I’d smell wonderful while making myself pass out while lifting in the garage. Of course, might do that anyway! No question, I need to fit my workout in this morning.
Hot weather faves like Infusion d’Iris and Ninfeo Mio are more likely on the docket. . .
To whomever recommended the Hercule Poirot books, thank you! I’ve been listening to them as audiobooks this last month, and it’s been wonderful escapism! I’m up to Appointment with Death, listening in vaguely chronological order (according to an Agatha Christie fan group I found online). I really love the silly, fully realized characters–fussy, aristocratic women and over-confident, diffident young men, etc.
*waves*
I was up at 6 am giving everyone in the garden a drink! One of the new roses blooms and she was scorched, poor little thing!
Hello, hello!
I hope you and your roses fare ok this week! I got two beds watered before noon. I will do the rest tonight or tomorrow morning, depending on how stressed everyone looks.
I’m in Vancouver and also having a hard time figuring out the CP in this heat. Neroli Portfino maybe?
You know, I don’t think I’ve sniffed that one! I’m pretty hesitant about Neroli/orange blossom notes. They can be overwhelming and distracting/annoying to my nose. But I’ve seen that one gets a lot of love here, so I’ll probably give it a sniff some time anyway and see if it convinces me to change my mind. Other notes have gone that way with time and exposure!
As for the CP, I do think it’s a tough combo. I ended up in my old Shalimar, which I love in the heat, but it’s quite big and has definite barnyard tendencies. Seems too *rural* for Bourdain, but it’s loud enough, anyway!
Not to be an enabler, but that’s the one that made me like neroli.
haha! I don’t think you have to be sheepish about being an enabler in this crowd!
No – don’t pass out please!! And aren’t those books great fun? (odd thing to say about murder, I know)
I’m in Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche. I didn’t know it was International Day of Yoga, but I just completed a FiveParksYoga that was great. Highly recommend this one, although I like many of them:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sc1C2n2tjy4
Just ordered some LuckyScent samples and postage was $4 again (last time I ordered it was $8!!) and very happy about that.
Thanks for the video! I practiced a few times over the weekend. The twists in particular, felt so good!
Thank you, I’m always looking for more good yoga videos since it looks like I may never get back to a real class…
I love Five Parks Yoga! She kept me doing yoga through the pandemic.
In Bitter Peach. On the fence about it—which is just fine given its cost.
Seriously, that’s the ticket.
Wearing Gallagher Fineapple…I get pineapple, magnolia, jasmine and woods. Tropical, tangy and perfect for summer.
Drinking Philz Ecstatic…hadn’t tried this one and it’s great!
Fineapple sounds great! I want a lotion like that.
TDC Bergamote; I sprayed some on Friday for the first day in ages, and have been wearing it daily since. It’s sunshine on this mostly cloudy day.
I love Bergamote, and that is a really pretty one.
Ahhhh 10 dreamless hours
Ahhhh company of many fragrances has a holiday today
Great article on 50th anniversary of Joni Mitchell’s Blue yesterday in New York Times.
Listened to it while I did laundry and cleaned house. Still have original LP and still know every word.
Going to enter the gym for first time in 16 months today.
SOTD is Dior tobacolor which is indeed something perfect.
Someone here…is it She Ra from last week.? Gets an enabler pin.
You smell wonderful! I did mention it but the pin really goes to the lovely hajusuuri who shared with me. 🙂
This article on Fragrantica stoked my interest in it a few months back…
https://www.fragrantica.com/news/Dior-Tobacolor-14679.html
so the enabling chain goes on and on….
I think was surprised me about tobacolor was its sheerness. I was thinking it would be close, thick, too syrupy but it was not!
I read that article this morning, and listened to the album while I was driving to and fro from the garden center, singing along enthusiastically. However, since I in no way have a range equivalent to Joni’s, it was probably a good thing that I was alone in the car.
Lol. In the car is the only place I sing.
I sang too while vacumming and it was just me and Joni.
how has a half century of my life gone by when I can remember so clearly putting the album on my turntable?
Following people from the weekend, in Nishane Ani today. This is a very pleasurable scent, and every time I wear it it smells a little different and I like it more….
I had a weekend – we got our new bed set up, which is just great and I have slept like a baby the last two nights – mattresses really do wear out! We got a bunch of hay for the horses, so we are less concerned about the drought making hay scarce and pricy next winter, but the transmission on the Pickup blew out thirty feet from where the trailer was supposed to be parked, so we spent a lot of the day dragging the dead truck and the overloaded trailer back and forth across our driveway to get the trailer where it needed to sit, so we could unhook the dead truck from it, and then drag the truck to where it will sit until we find someone who will rebuild the transmission. Ugh.
In other news, the potatoes in my garden are growing like gangbusters, and I have more lemon verbena and arugula than I know what to do with. 🙂 I am thinking of making a sort of lemon verbena pesto with honey to use as a sauce on icecream… we’ll see…
Lemon verbena honey pesto on ice cream sounds delicious, and I am now thinking about all of the different potato and arugula salad combinations I would make for lunch with that haul.
Sorry about the truck. At least you smell amazing…
That’s no fun. Trucks always go at the most inopportune moments.
I made a batch of lemon verbena simple syrup for all the babas and champagne cocktails I’m not managing to have. I think a lemon verbena tea sorbet or granita would be lovely; maybe I’ll get around to that. The darn plants are so prolific!
Sorry about the truck, you smell lovely.
If you are looking for free recipes I like going thru the LCBO’s Food and Drink archives – you can search by ingredient and I have yet to be disappointed by a recipe.
Boo hiss on your truck going kaput.
Wow, good thing you got the bed set up before the truck blew out, I guess? But sorry.
Oh no, sorry about your truck!!!
Lemon verbena honey pesto sounds like an amazing idea!
I have decided that this week I will be adventurous and only wear samples from perfume companies in countries I haven’t been to. Today I’m in Madeline from Masque Milano (Italy)
What a fun idea for this week’s CP!
agreed!
Great idea!
I had to make a decant of Covet, so I wore it myself today. Nice choice for warmer temperatures. It finally cooled yesterday, so it’s just how I like it…
Waiting for my Greek inspired chicken and potato bake with lemon and herbs to finish. I am hungry!!!
I really like Covet. It strikes me as unexpected and interesting in the best way.
I adore Covet! The drydown is sooooo wonderful.
I agree – it lingers in the nicest way.
Covet has one of the best lemon notes I have come across in a perfume. ?
A cold front came through last night with storms. It’s in the mid 60″s now, I think. I won’t complain.
Today is my birthday. I don’t have anything planned, just work tonight. Tomorrow is my daughter’s birthday and we might go to the zoo. Sotd is Coco edp.
Happy birthday ???
Thanks!
Happy Birthday!

Cool front here too, I turned on my seat heater this morning, lol.
You smell perfect in Coco!
Thank you! Yes, car heater was definitely on. Supposed to be colder tomorrow!
Happy Birthday and you smell wonderful!
Thank you!
Happy birthday!
Happy slightly belated bday!
Hope you had a great birthday!
In Chanel No.28 La Pausa EdT.
Happy Monday! ?
I hope it’s 8 sprays!
Well, I doubled Hajusuuri’s sprays to 16, so I could smell it properly! ?
???!
?
Swoon!
?
You smell wonderful!
Thank you! ?
I hope that you have the big bottle of that one!
Unfortunately, I have the regular bottle and approximately 20mls left. I will probably thunk it this year. As much as I love it and it is one of my favorite perfumes, I will not replace it.
You have a knack for letting perfumes go gracefully!
Wearing Pleasures from a vintage (c.2000?) mini my mom found while clearing out a dresser drawer last week. She also found minis of Beautiful and Tuscany per Donna, so it must have been a set, likely picked up at TJMaxx. I don’t recall ever smelling any of them, so I can’t comment on whether the the juice has held up. Pleasures started with heavy soapy notes, but about an hour I got lots of LOTV, some lily, and some peony, and a few hours in I get musk and hint of sandalwood, but no patchouli. I didn’t get many of the top notes listed on fragrantica — I’m guessing they were lost in less-than-idea storage conditions during hot summers.
A day or so before my mom found these I had picked up a cheap travel sized two pack of the current formulation of Pleasures at TJMaxx (sensing a trend?) because it felt like a gap in my perfume knowledge. Getting the vintage one right after that felt like fate, and I want to do a wrist to wrist comparison of the two soon.
Drinking Clipper Ship’s Darjeeling Makaibari 2nd flush.
Finding forgotten perfume is the best!
Nice! I love surprise finds! Pleasures is an under rated gem, I love the peony note! Tuscany Per Donna was gorgeous also, I wore the heck out of it back in the day.
I am looking forward to trying the TPD. The bottle isn’t labeled and it took a solid hour of googling this weekend to figure out what it was. I kept thinking it was a Tresor flanker based on the bottle shape, until I realized — oops, Tresor is Lancome and not Estee Lauder. Once I figured out it was TPD, all the comments I saw talked about what a great frag it is.
I loved Tuscany per Donna in college!
I love Tpd yet today. The vintage holds up well.
Too bad the current Tuscany is in that “BLAH” bottle. Have you tried it anyway?
Today I’m in California Reverie, which is just a delight.
I bought my husband some plants for his birthday and joined a new yoga studio – I can’t believe I’m anxious about going to a yoga class. But I’m quite an introvert and new social situations always stress me out a little bit. I wish my old yoga studio could have moved up here with us.
I miss going to yoga! A new studio always makes me a little nervous. I miss my former studio and my instructors, I was so fortunate to have three that clicked for me and taught me so much and each of them, so different!
I miss going to my usual yoga studio — Zoom classes are great but I miss the community. The studio I go to is really inclusive and low-key and the vibe is both private and friendly, so as a fellow introvert it works well for me! 🙂
You smell great! Did you ever find out about the cause of Mr. Sistine’s allergic reaction?
Unfortunately we still have no idea what caused it. He has an appointment with an allergist next week – just keeping our fingers crossed that it doesn’t happen again!
FWIW I went to the ER with an allergic reaction several years back, having eaten both shellfish and peanuts that night which I had never reacted to previously – full-body hives but no breathing difficulties, thankfully.
The doctor told me that allergic reactions *can* be a one-off and to cautiously try small amounts of each of the likely triggers in a few weeks’ time. No reaction on later testing, and I have gone on to never have it happen again!
Hope you either get clarity on what caused your husband’s episode or, like me, get lucky enough to have it be a fluke!
Yay for joining a new studio! I’m looking forward to doing that next month. I’m an introvert too so it’s a little awkward, but most people are nice, so I try to just relax and smile.
SOTD: vol de nuit
We’re getting 4-5 days of milder temps before it hits the 90s again, I’m going to treasure it.
Glad for you that you’re getting a heat break and you smell great.
Happy Solstice!
It’s 98F (47C) ! Plenty of ice water! It’s gonna be a scorcha!
1) I am in 4711(after cool morning shower) & Cap Neroli- perfect for this heat!
2) This week is PUSH WEEK for the kitchen. The countertops are treated- but then I found out that you can treat the countertops after installation. D’oh! I will have help with countertop install & electrical install. Hopefully the plumber will be here on Friday to attach the sink & dishwasher – or I will have to do it myself 🙁
3) I am going to leave the trim work for the rest of the summer- my friends pointed out that I am not selling, so I can take my time with tiling, painting, soffits and trim pieces.
4) I need to reward myself with a nice full bottle!
Go you!! You are awesome.
I can’t wait to see with the counters done! Pictures so far look wonderful.
Looking out at the SF skyline from my friend’s apartment and surfing on my iPad. Not seeing much of interest for Prime Day…at least not for special purchase, like the Dyson I got some years back.
Wearing Chance, I think it’s the Eau Tendre, from a carded sample. Light and easy. I like it more than I would have expected.
I kind of fit with the photo, except my t-shirt is a Keith Haring from Uniqlo last year.
Flew here on Saturday…my flight from Chicago was surprisingly full. People are traveling again.
I was shocked at how many people were in airports this month! It’s a big increase from April.
You are brave but then again, you’re vaccinated and masked.
Hello all! Chiming in late today. Up late finishing homework and I’m bleary-eyed.
My SOTD is Amazone edt by Hermes. It’s green and light for today’s warm weather. When I’m done with a work project, I’ll head out to the gym for a workout. Practiced yoga a few times over the weekend, it was enjoyable! 🙂
I did yoga on Wednesday and Sunday, and Qigong this morning.
For me that is a banner week.
That’s excellent! I’m not the most flexible (or coordinated) of people, I think yoga is good for my spine and balance. I am such a klutz!
I’m a klutz too, really! But I love yoga. Twice a week, frankly, is not enough but since the pandemic it’s about the best I ever do, in fact better than usual.
I was in Baiser Volé EDT which I could smell all day, it’s strong for an edt and maybe my favorite concentration for its green notes, I also have the essence, a vanilla bomb which is rated higher on Fragrantica, as often I don’t agree. This evening I changed to Amouage Opus III, a melancholic violet with a retro vibe.
I like the EdT better than the Essence too.
it is so sparkling and light but long-lasting.
Last week’s rain and warmer temps have combined to make my little garden grow like crazy. The zucchini leaves are huge, yesterday there was one blossom and today there are four. The tomato plants are pushing the cage boundaries, too. OTOH, the poor hummingbirds must be really hot, they are drinking so much nectar. I thought I would stay cool today with a citrus, so I’m wearing Fresh Hesperides. Reapplying soon as it fades fast like most citrus. It’s too hot for me to be outside very long so I’m in the recliner reading a bio of Mike Nichols.
The recliner is the place to be, for sure !
Winter solstice – we’ve just had the shortest day, and yesterday certainly was dull and dreary. At least the days will be getting longer, even if the coldest weather is still to come. Perfume-wise, I’ve decided on Maharanih Intense from Parfums de Nicholai. Thinking of exotic warm places 🙂
Yay for days getting longer! I always like hitting that upswing point, even if it still feels dark and cold.
Celebrated yoga day with yoga out on the back deck at 9am. Sunny and warm here, with a cooling breeze. I’m wearing Papillon Bengal Rouge.
Sounds perfect.???
You smell nice!
Well, it’s been an “interesting” week for me, NSTers. First Mr. Jalapeno has a UTI, then he finds out that he might have a bladder stone. UGH! At least I got my perfume samples today.
SOTD = back in Olivier Durbano Rock Crystal EdP. Maybe this will be the next sample that gets thunked…
Ouch! UTI’s are horrible, I can’t imagine having a bladder stone! Hope he feels better soon.
His UTI symptoms were very mild… he didn’t even know he had one until he went to his doctor for a checkup.
Oh poor Mr. Jalapeño! I hope it and the stone resolve quickly!
He’s getting an ultrasound tomorrow to get a clearer picture of things (no pun intended). He’s finished his course of antibiotics already.
Ugh, indeed! That sounds horrible for him — I hope everything resolves quickly and painlessly!
We’ll know more tomorrow…
Jalapeno, you are way overdue for a few weeks of peace and calm!!
Wishing him the best!
Hope the rest of the week is uneventful!
Reading this late. Ugh, poor Mr. Jalapeño! I hope feels better soon!
I’m in Roger and Gallet Fleur d’ Osmanthus. The last of my decant, thunk. Gonna try and thunk a few more in the next few weeks. I hate it when they evaporate. Has that ever been a cp? Wear a fragrance from an evaporating decant? I’ve got a few.
Whoo hoo for a decant thunk!
I have a few that look like they are joining the Perfumed Choir Invisible, too. I have pulled out the ones that I can wear in summer temps.
That’s what I did too. I’ll save the heavy hitters for fall.
I had just said via IG that I will be wearing more of my decants!
I just saw that! We are on the same wavelength!??
You remind me that I need to wear more decants. 🙂
I’m still wafting Mitsouko from earlier today. Might have me. Guerlain week!
Why not?
SOTD = Nars Audacious
Musky, woody and a hodgepodge of flowers. I got this in the most recent splitmeet. It’s nice although I think this is all I need of it.

The Wedding was fun! It was originally supposed to be held November 2020 but it was not to be due to COVID. It was my first large group get-together since March 2020. There were ~ 140 guests and it was held at a special events estate in NJ. I can count on one hand how many people were masked and even then, those masks disappeared pretty quickly. The wedding was held in the airy chapel, then there was a cocktail hour (I probably ate 2 meals worth) and then there was the luncheon with more food. And drink…but I must have been out of practice because when I got home, I took a 3 hour nap ?. The bride and groom were very relaxed and obviously having a great time!
My SOTD is my layering combination of Theo Kalotinis Vanilla and Coffee Addict – only necessary because I went with my sister, BIL and nephew. It’s a great combo.
That wedding sounds like it was a great time! Glad to hear that it had been only postponed and not canceled.
Did it feel weird to be eating and drinking in public?
That does sound like fun, glad you enjoyed it!
Glad it was a good time!
Is this the couple that sent you the wrong thank you note?
It’s warm here; we are getting our July temperatures now! I wore Guerlain Vetiver to battle the heat.
We had a nice visit with my hubby’s Dad yesterday. He was so happy to see people in person. Some had their 2nd shots already but we still did our visit outside, the rest of us should be getting our 2nd very soon. It’s almost like the before-times.
So glad you had a good visit! (And “almost like the before-times” is exactly what everything feels like now.)
Happy Monday and solstice change of seasons! I’ve been on a wonderful road trip and have not been able to keep up with comments and NST news as much as I like to. But today I can finally report SotD as Beyond Paradise again. Also a shout out for one of America’s great national parks The Blue Ridge Parkway. Mr. MB and I drove 63 miles of it in VA and NC over three hours which include scenic over look stops, a picnic, and some modest hiking. Check it out if you can, friends.
That’s such a pretty drive, did parts of it often back in the day as it was close to JMU. Truly underrated.
Have done the Skyline Drive + Blue Ridge Parkway drive twice, but not in years — so gorgeous!
