Hey, it's Friday! And yesterday, Stevie Wonder turned 71. Our community project for today: tell us your favorite Stevie Wonder song and wear the fragrance to match. (And don't forget, the haiku challenge is coming up tomorrow.)
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm listening to my absolute favorite Stevie Wonder song, Don't You Worry 'bout a Thing, from the 1973 album Innervisions. (I am stealing a quote from the Telegraph via Wikipedia, already linked above: "It sounds and feels like a burst of summer happiness.") My happy summer fragrance to match: Aftelier Candide.
Reminder: 5/21 is World Meditation Day. Wear whatever you think fits the theme.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows detail from the album gatefold for Innervisions by artist Efram Wolff.
My absolute favourite Stevie Wonder song is “Sir Duke”, and it doesn’t conjure up any scents, but it makes me happy, so I’m wearing my most sure-fire smile-maker, CSP Amour de Cacao. It never fails to boost my mood. It’s entirely perfect.
Great picks!
Yes! I cannot get through the chorus without singing along and dancing. “Sir Duke” is my song choice for today, too, and I am pairing it with Cristalle Eau Verte, which also always and instantly makes me happy.
I am wearing Jean Patou 1000 (Mille) in its current version for the song called Part Time Lover. 1000 is soft, elegantly discreet but a little naughty, as befits a song about a secret affair. And also that old commercial – “Father, I have sinned.” “How many times?” 😉
And I love this song. A very catchy tune that makes you dance and poetic lyrics with a great twist at the end. My favorite lines are “We are undercover passion on the run / Chasing love up against the sun”.

Speaking of poetry, I am looking forward to the haiku challenge tomorrow. ? See you all then, I hope.
Oh nice, not least because I had completely forgotten that song!
I’m in Un Jardin en Mediterranee. I don’t know if it’s a match, but my favorite Stevie song is I Wish. I remember my parents bringing it home on vinyl. Even though Isn’t She Lovely was the big hit, I Wish was my favorite. 45 years later, those lyrics speak to me…. I wish those days could come back once more. Why did those days ever have to go?? sigh
Anyway, thank you all for the kind words yesterday. My daughter got about 14 inches of hair cut off and it looks adorable! We took her beautiful locks home in ziploc baggies and will mail it off to wigs for kids. Thanks to SheriG for the reminder.
I am finishing up my last paper of the semester today and then I am done! D O N E. Graduation is Sunday. The best part of today will be my college daughter’s arrival back home for the summer.☺️ She’ll be here about dinner time. Can’t wait.
So nice to read all your happy news today!? And treasure every moment of your special day on Sunday, you deserve it! ?
2nd all of that!
Thanks Robin!
Thanks Laila!
Wow, what an amazing time for you!! Enjoy all of your celebrations.
Thanks sistine!
Huzzah! Practice throwing that graduation cap…
Thanks!?
Lots of good news all around! And enjoy all of your celebrations!
Thanks SmokeyToes!
Yay! Enjoy all the good things ?
Thanks!

You Rock!?
Awwwww??this takes me right back to 1983. Thanks lillyjo!
Remember the Monsters of Rock tour back then? I was supposed to go but was sick, so my friends brought me back a Night Ranger t-shirt.
I don’t remember that tour. (I grew up in the middle of nowhere☹️) do you still have the tshirt?
I didnt know who Knight Ranger was, but I knew Sister Christian from Boogie Nights. My friend invited me to a Night Ranger/Styx concert and I tried to weasel out of it because I thought it was old man rock but he wouldn’t let me. Well sir let me tell you how phenomenal they were!
I can’t listen to that song anymore. Too many sad memories entangled with it now.
Congratulations! And to your daughter. I’m a fan of short hair.
Thanks! She looks great, but of course I’m biased.?
Congratulations!
Thanks Vee!
Oh yay – so glad the tresses will get a second life somewhere where they’re needed! My hair was that long when I was in high school (it’s pretty much all anyone remembered about me, even then), but it has been on a steady upward (i.e. farther from the ground) trend ever since. Short is cute and lots easier to take care of – I’ll bet your daughter is a little shocked but will enjoy the reduced weight on her neck and shoulders!
Yeah, I think she’s gonna love it when it’s hot and humid out, and at summer camp. Just wash and go.?
Congratulations! May the sun shine on you.
Thank you!
Doing my best to send you wonderful weather for your graduation ceremony!
Thanks Jalapeño!
Congratulations – I remember well the “DONE” feeling and it’s great you’ve shared it with NST!! Have you picked out a perfume for the ceremony?
Using up a tiny sample vial of Khephera by House of Matriarch to go with
? Superstition! ?
Happy Belated Birthday to a brilliant bringer of joy — sorely needed and much appreciated.
I love that song too. The horns!
What is Khephera like?
Happy Birthday ?, Stevie! I have no one favorite song of his, ❤️ them all, but the one that reached out to me on a beautiful sunny morning was You Are the Sunshine of My Life, and I’m matching it to the sunniest scent I know, Pacifica Malibu Lemon Blossom. It always reminds me of a wonderful long-ago summer trip to California, cruisin’ down the Pacific Coast Highway in a Mustang convertible, warm sunshine and salty sea breeze in my hair and a glorious sense of freedom. A wistful memory – after this past year of isolation and anxiety, will I ever feel that free again?
Did lots of gardening this week to take advantage of a nice stretch of cool, sunny days. Saw my grandkids two weekends in a row – ??- and my son baked me a beautiful cake ? for Mother’s Day. My lilacs are ready to burst into bloom after holding on tightly to their purple blossoms in the cool weather. And I’m going for my first haircut in ten months in a little while! Life is inching towards normalcy one tiny step at a time.
Wishing everyone a beautiful weekend ahead! ?☀️
So many good things in your post! Hope you enjoy your weekend to the max —
I’m sure gonna try! ?
Ahhh, your California memory inspired me! Thanks for such a great description.
You’re welcome! Our weather here today reminds me of the time I was there. Maybe if I close my eyes and inhale the Malibu Lemon Blossom I can transport myself there? I’m gonna try . . .
Laila, thank you for posting more good news!!
I make no predictions for the future, but I am currently having my first beach time since 2019, and I do feel “closer to free”, at least.
Yes, beach time would certainly encourage feelings of freedom. Enjoy! I just came home from my haircut ? and I feel like I ‘freed’ myself of 5 lbs. Yay!
Nice!
Enjoy your haircut! Did you go really short?
No, I’m not a short-hair person, only did that twice in my life and it wasn’t me. It’s basically shoulder-length so I can feel it swing around me; probably had a good 2-3” cut off and I’m pleased.
I’m in Lonestar Memories again. This is the song that popped to mind now: Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m Yours! I do love LM…
A happy Friday to all!
This was the first Andy Tauer I purchased and I love it too. You smell great!
I’m off for the day and getting a covive shot. Elizabeth Arden green tea spray and deodorant, body shop Fuji green tea lotion. It really lasts on me, I have some weirdness that keeps weak perfumes cogitating.
You smell great!
I love it. I’m tempted to go to Burlington coat factory and see if they still have the pomegranate green tea.
Congrats on your shot!
Hooray for your shot!!!
Yay for the jab!!
My nephew just got his first shot today, and when he’s done, that will be the last of my family and I will breathe a big sigh of relief.
I don’t think I need it since I had it in November, but I need to show I’m fully vaccinated to sell insurance face to face which is my preference. I’ve never feared it for myself at all. Now I can start terrorizing people at karaoke soon.
Good news on getting vaccinated. You can never be too safe! (Plus I heard that one of the side effects is that of karaoke enhancement! ? ?)
In the dregs of Serge Lutens Ambre sultan that I put on yesterday and it is gorgeous! I received it in a righteous bottle trade, thanks to the swap meet. My discontent with this house is well documented on this very blog so I am happy to report a win. I would pair this savory and smoky amber with Stevie Wonder’s Superstion.
Superstition….
Yay for a win!
I’m not participating in the CP today. My scent today is Zara Jo’s Rhubarb.
Happy Friday PriscillaE!
Hello all!
My mother’s favorite Stevie Wonder song has always been My Cherie Amour, which she sang to my brother and me as a lullaby. It’s going to be stuck in my head all day!
It’s a total non sequitur, but I’m in Love Les Carrottes, which I’ve truly wanted since it came out. Yes, I am thoroughly scented as a glass of carrot juice. Lucky to have found a bottle.
Stay safe all!
Les Carrottes is a great one!
I love that one too – You smell great! I emailed with Honore des Pres and was told they were sending inventory to their US partners but they don’t seem to have showed up yet.
That is one of my favorite SW songs. I could do this for weeks!
Good morning and TGIF!
Thanks to the sunshine that was sent my way yesterday, it’s finally sunny out, with even a cool breeze! Thank you 😀
I am still in commando, this CP is a toughie. Will update later with my choice. Better get brainstorming…
Decided!
Song: Isn’t She Lovely
Perfume: Amouage Beloved
My favorite Stevie Wonder song is Superstition.
These are certainly days in which people are inventing new superstitions (When you believe in things you can not understand).
But I have not a single scent which has any “witchiness” or otherwise fits.
I am therefore honoring Prince, who was, a friend of Stevie Wonder. I am wearing 3121, the “Prince” perfume, which, characteristically of Prince ended up in a marketing fight for power.
Oh perfect!
Another song twin! Cool!
Happy (late) birthday, Stevie! My favorite song of his is Higher Ground. I interpreted it as wearing something reliable, a get-stuff-done kind of scent. For me, that’s Tocca Colette. It’s not the boss-lady chypre one might choose, but it’s what I wore in college so I find it reliable in the same way.
Song twins!
I was going to pick Higher Ground if I ended up wearing an incense perfume.
Another good idea!
Thanks!
I’m going with Higher Ground and No 19 but I like the incense connection better.
Good choice for No.19!
I am shamelessly stealing Laila’s idea and pairing “You are the sunshine of my life” with Jour d’Hermes. This is such a gorgeous scent, and it’s definitely lifting my mood – my anxiety has been super high for the last three days.
We have an unexpected remote learning day today because there’s no gas in Raleigh. Sigh. 2021 is certainly 2020s baby sister so far.
Here’s hoping 2021 stays little and never grows into 2020! Hang in there.
I’m sorry about the gas situation over there. It looks like such a mess!
In the “could be worse” category, we had a nearby school district open up to hybrid and then immediately get hacked and lose ALL email and G-suite access for two weeks. So, the only kids who had school were those returning 2 afternoons a week. Hopefully, you all get gas faster than that!
Ugh, sorry about the gas shortage.
Hope your day got brighter with Stevie’s ? despite the gas shortage.
Jour d’Hermes = sunshine in a bottle. 😀 Great pairing.
Laughed a bit at the “little sister.” I have to agree.
Hope things get gassed up where you are soon.
I hope the gas situation eases up soon.
Wearing Bulgari’s blue tea, which as always is telling me “don’t you worry ’bout a thing”…
Song twins! Plus, you smell great.
I’m going super literal today in Imaginary Authors Sundrunk for “You Are the Sunshine of my Life”. It really is a sunny, uplifting summer splash!
Four weeks of school left, and yes, I am definitely counting!
Four weeks! WooHoo! That’s so exciting! I would have the calendar out with big red checks…
I have some teacher friends who have those one-a-day loops of paper chains in their classrooms, and they tear off one loop each day.
Oh, how awesome! I could put some kids to work on making one of those.
Very cool pairing ?!
I think I’m in the wrong generation to be a big Stevie fan–either too young (I don’t remember when his music was new, although I was technically alive for some of the album releases), or too old (my students listen to music of all ages and genres, with digital music at their fingertips). However, nearly every reference above, I can hear the songs in my head, so they are a part of my mental songbook in any case! Do I remember him showing up on Sesame Street? I feel like that is the image that goes into my head first. (Ok, I just searched that, and there’s a compilation of 35 minutes of Stevie Wonder visits on Sesame Street! So, I didn’t imagine it, but no idea which visit is in my brain.)
Today we are visiting my BIL and SIL for the first time in a year. They are expecting next month, and it will be wonderful to see them and to celebrate! We will do an outdoor BBQ, and my husband’s parents will be there, too. It will be a combo baby-celebration, MIL birthday and belated Mother’s Day for both women. I am baking a white cake with lemon curd for dessert.
Not sure on a SOTD. I think I’ll want something nice and not too big for sitting outside with family this evening. I’ve been wearing Kenzo Amour a lot lately, so that’s a contender.
What a fun and really wonderful day planned! Enjoy your family!
Thank you so much! Honestly, I’m just about in tears thinking about seeing them all and hanging out again! With my health risks, we have been extraordinarily careful for over a year. Slowly dipping my toes in with outdoor visits with close friends/family who have been vaccinated.
How lovely, enjoy your BBQ!
Thanks, Robin!
Wishing you a wonderful time with your family. I can certainly understand the almost-tears. And your dessert sounds wonderful! ?
Song–I Just Called to Say I love You
Scent–Iris Ganache because I’ll always love this scent and it’s also what I was wearing when my husband first told me that he loved me
Aww… so sweet!
Very sweet!?
I love this story!
?????????
Ooh! What a lovely story! And you smell great, too!
Sweet just like that beautiful sweet fragrance!
Hard to choose a favourite Stevie Wonder song, but I guess I’ll just go with “Sir Duke”, like Pyramus. It reminds me of being three years old and riding around in the sun with my parents. Something about that horn line just has always said sun to me.
Still working with a limited palette of perfumes since a newly laid floor is between me and my perfumes, but I think Saturday is a good one to go with the idea of sun. 🙂
I LOVE Sir Duke! Such a marvelous song, and the horn section is fabulous. I’d scent that song with Azuree or Aliage, and the scent of Ban de Soleil Orange Gelee No. 4. 😉
For the Saint Tropez tan!
Do you have any idea how much longer you will have to wait to access your perfumes?
I think I can get in to them this weekend. 😀
Morning all, and happy Friday! Happy belated birthday to Stevie Wonder. My song is We Are The World, reminds me we’re all connected.
My SOTD is Fendi, it brings up memories of a wonderful time in high school. My grandmother volunteered at my H.S., she wore Ysatis, by Givenchy and we’d lunch together every day.
Both scents are forever in my heart as something very special.
Great memory, thanks SmokeyToes!
I could not remember any Stevie Wonder songs, so I am copying from someone’s post with Sir Duke and Aromatics Elixir. I think I can faintly remember this song, but I was more a goth music lover, Stevie was much too happy for me
There was definitely a time in my life when he was too happy for me too 🙂
Stevie’s songs are very joyful. As a former goth (is there such a thing?), Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, Joy Division, and Ministry were my jam, back in the day.
Living in FL, wearing all black, and being a goth took a certain amount of commitment back in the day when it 95 degrees and 90% humidity most of the year.
Love that song too, Robin! So good! Will def play it today.
SOTD: Oeillet Bengale from recent swap and loving it!
What a beauty. Enjoyed the NST review as well. I do wish it was a little more stronger as it settles quickly on me into a skin scent but it is wonderful. Combo of incense & carnation is perfect.
Robin: Was an incense + jasmin scent ever made?
You smell fabulous. Thankful I got a back up on that one.
I’m tracking this on eBay now 😉
How is the new home & ‘hood?
It’s great. Still unpacking, so messier than I’d like. But we are enjoying it. Jim sometimes misses waking up in NYC, but then we look out at the woods and smile. He needs to put out the suet to draw the woodpeckers. I’m enjoying the “localness” of it all.
So happy to hear this! Love the fireplace too! 🙂
So, there have to be jasmine + incense scents, right? But at the moment I am not thinking of any, and for years my dream scent was a green-ish jasmine incense that did not exist. So really hoped Aedes would take on jasmine!!
Hope someone else will chime in.
Did I hear right that Aedes is launching a new fragrance line this summer? Maybe a green jasmine??? I wonder what the backstory is on the first line and why they discontinued it…
I have no idea, I am completely out of the loop these days.
All these song choices are so good but I’ve had Higher Ground in my head all week so that’s what I’m going with. I absolutely love that bass line so I chose Chergui as my sotd because it has great basenotes. Have a lovely weekend, all. ??
Nice! Love this tie-in to the song!
Higher Ground is a great one!
Too hard to say what is my favorite Stevie Wonder song. (Although, I’d read a Guardian story ranking his songs–if they dared.)
Today I am wearing Knowing (a constant favorite) and matching it with ‘As’ cuz:
As around the sun the earth knows she’s revolving
And the rosebuds know to bloom in early May
Just as hate knows love’s the cure
You can rest your mind assure
That I’ll be loving you always
Lovely!
How about The Independent?
https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/features/stevie-wonder-best-song-ranked-singles-superstition-i-wish-a9501846.html
Nice job, but I still feel one may as well, or as uselessly, rank spices, or fruits, or the different scents of flowers! Living for the City vs. Sir Duke? No idea!
I am wearing a combination of Estee Lauder Estee edp on my wrists and Aerin Lauder Wild Geranium hair mist in my hair.
Stevie Wonder song for me is Master Blaster. My scents are blasting happiness for me today 🙂
Oh good.
Hello fragrant friends,
I am currently at LAX waiting for my flight to finally finally see my sister. The airport is packed. The flights are packed. I have on just a mist of Paris Deauville as I will step into heat in Florida.
Am so excited!
So excited for you! Have a super great visit!
That IS exciting! Have a great visit!
Wishing you a wonderful visit ahead!
YAY! Enjoy your longed-for reunion!
Have fun in Florida! Eat lots of Cuban food and espresso! The Columbia Restaurant is fantastic! Their 1905 salad and black bean soup are the best, so is their Cuban sandwich.
Pairing Jour Ensolleille with You Are the Sunshine of My Life, solely because I want to wear JE.
Busy week. Retrieved the car from dealer after a part replaced. Can’t believe the shortage of new cars available…so glad I bought when I did (the shortage even made front page WSJ). Took advantage of being in “the city” to buy a memory foam topper on sale for our queen air mattress, in advance of a visitor next month.
And…with the help of a lovely agent, I got our health insurance set up. So stressful dealing with all that. And, we established my husband can easily get a driver’s license here. He had let his CA license expire while we lived in NYC. In NY, they required him to start the process over….with permit, waiting period and road test. Here they just need evidence of a license within last 8 years. Which he has. So…my chauffeuring days should be over within the next week or so. Woo hoo!
And…the weather has turned gorgeous. I’m enjoying my peach hard cider or tart raspberry beer in the evening.
The new car shortage is due to a computer chip shortage. I’ve heard rumblings about that for a couple of months now. One plant in Japan that makes them had a fire and had to shut down.
Exactly what the dealer told us when we brought our car in for service. At that time I think they had 17 new cars on the lot…not sure they have any,
Never really listened to Stevie Wonder, so I am not participating in the CP. Wearing Happy today.
Happy works for Stevie Wonder anyway 🙂
My favorite Stevie Wonder song is I Just Called to Say I Love You. It brings back such happy memories of my childhood, being one of the first pop songs I remember singing with my sibling, trying to learn all the lyrics.
I haven’t picked a scent for today yet, but I think I will wear something that reminds me of childhood, maybe something candy-like! ?
My favorite Stevie Wonder song is Part-Time Lover. In 1985 I was single in NYC and having a fling with a co-worker. The song sort of was “our song” though we were pretty casual about the whole thing. I’m wearing Chypre Mousse because I’m only a part-time lover of chypres.
I love this match and story!
Great match and story
Ha! Love this whole post!
I was going to wear Superstition to match with Superstition, but I just didn’t feel like wearing it. I have been gravitating towards easy to wear, happy scents more and more. NR edp White Cube is what called my name. I will pair it with Isn’t she lovely, and I just called to say I love you.
I hope someone wears SJP Lovely so they can match it to the song.
In other news, tomorrow I have to get a covid test because it’s required before I take a lung function test next week. I’m not looking forward to either test, or having to go twice to the hospital and deal with parking, and my share of the cost. The Doctors always tell me to eliminate stress.. I say then eliminate the bill! Lol.
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! ( I can’t find my sunshine smiley face on my stupid new phone, but it’s there in my heart for you all ❤)
Do you think my phone knows I called it stupid?! ?lol
Good luck for those tests, Lillyjo.
Thanks Aurora.
Your phone is always listening. It will get its revenge in due time. Bwaaaahaha. ?
Oh I will be expecting it, lol
Good luck with your tests lillyjo!
Thanks!
Good luck tomorrow. ?
Thanks for the sun!
Ugh, the dread COVID test! Good luck with that.
Thanks! Wish me a parking spot, lol
“ The Doctors always tell me to eliminate stress.. I say then eliminate the bill!” – You are funny!
Good luck on the tests.
Did you ask about whether or not you should get the vaccine?
I did ask, but got a non answer. He wouldn’t commit to telling me it was ok, because it’s not fda approved yet, and gave me some pros and cons and told me where to find more info so I could make my own informed decision. This gut is fairly new to me, and so far I’m not impressed.
I had to have a covid test before my surgery. Hold your breath and count backwards from 10 while it’s happening. It really helps! Good luck, girl, you got this! ?
Thanks for the tip!
Oh, and if my phone knew all the names I called it, it would unplug itself from the wall and kill me in the night. ?
That’s the kind of language I use re: my laptop.
Lol!
https://youtu.be/sLErN7Ps6sU
The above is one of my favorites, he has so many great songs. I’m pairing it with vintage Angel Man (so much easier to wear than Angel).
We are Angel opposites. I like the men’s version, but can’t wear it. Lucky you to have the vintage!
I bet you wear Angel really well.
I can’t believe that I have never come across A*Men!
SotD = vintage Joy from a recently re-discovered sample
for Wonder’s Overjoyed. 😀
Stevie’s Carpool Karaoke with James Corden is one of my favorites, too. 52 million views and counting –
https://youtu.be/qqrvm2XDvpQ
Also! Overjoyed! it’s FriYAY!
Yes to vintage Joy!
I saw Stevie Wonder in concert in 2018, and I definitely felt like I was in the presence of a legend. I was singing along with every song! So hard to choose a favourite, but I think it’s a toss-up between I Wish and If You Really Love Me. Although we played Knocks Me Off My Feet at my wedding.
I’m wearing Acqua di Parma Rosa Nobile. It just feels like a light, rosy kinda day.
Wow. That sounds like it was an amazing show!
No points for me. Woke up early and spritzed a little Cuir Ottoman to go with morning coffee, but now I’m motivated to get outside and enjoy the garden so I’ll shower off the scent to avoid attracting ? ? ? and other ? ? ? ? ? … although ? ? are nice. Happy Friday everyone!
Okay, so I sprayed on some Chanel Eau de Cologne to keep me company while drying my hair, and then got sidetracked making lunch and looking at house porn on zillow with Mr. G … but NOW I’m going outside. Maybe. ?
Are you house-shopping, Sheri? Mr. Spicebomb spent countless hours looking on Zillow when we were winding up to sell my house and find this one together. Now we’ve moved, he never looks at it! It took a long time to sell my house, and I think once we were done, he was DONE!
Not really. We’ve been researching places to retire for many years now, but for a number of reasons we’re postponing relocation for a while. We still keep tabs on prices here and in the two or three possible retirement locales … hence the “aspirational browsing”. ?
Did you make it outside today after all?
I did, but not until after I got further waylaid by some painting I’ve been trying to get done in our tv-slash-workout room.
Superstition is my favorite Stevie Wonder song. I’m in Ormande Woman because it spoke to me. The song production and this scent are both so self-assured and confident that they seem well matched.
I have trouble isolating any particular notes in OW. It is so well blended and balanced that to my nose it is just “the scent of OW.”
I get what you’re saying about OJ Woman. To me it is hemlock + OJ-aide, whatever mix of iso-e-super, etc, is used in the base of so many of the scents from that house.
Should add, I love it! It was my first full swoon fragrance.
Song Twins!
Popping in for just a moment to say that I love Stevie Wonder, and I’m wearing The Porter House from Scotch Porter, described on their website as a “sharp green oriental.”
The list of Stevie favorites is long, but today I’m going to pair my perfume with “I Was Made to Love Her,” which always makes me smile and sing:
I was born in Lil’ Rock
Had a childhood sweetheart
We were always hand in hand
I wore high-top shoes and shirt tails
Suzy was in pigtails
I knew I loved her even then
Happy Friday, all!
Oh, a green oriental! That sounds VERY Stevie, actually!
I love that song too!
Hello All!
1) A beautiful sunny Friday here in Portland. It’s gonna be 81F (27C) today!
2) I love all of Stevie Wonder so it’s hard to pin to down a favorite, but the song that really speaks to me is “As”- it’s not only a love song, but a call to love and care for each RIGHT NOW and ALWAYS.
3) Am in a combo for the SOTD: Champagne Toast by BBW and then Wild Vanilla Orchid by Floral Street. I smell very happy and joyful.
As is such a great song! Good pick.
Like MarjorieRose, I feel as if I don’t know many Stevie Wonder songs, but I realise that I recognise nearly all the songs people here have mentioned. I haven’t decided yet on a perfume for the morning. I might save my skin for sampling on my walk a little later when I’m sure to pop into the local perfumery for some sniffing 🙂
They have just got in the Neanderthal range. I tried them on strips last weekend and I wasn’t too keen on any of them, but you can’t be sure until you’ve actually worn something.
Somehow, that line did not intrigue me enough to even seek out samples! Do report back!
I can no more pick a favorite Stevie song than a favorite perfume, but I Wish is so propulsive, danceable and joyful that it’s my pick today. I found my Neela discovery kit and spritzed a bit of Bombay Bling. ❤️
You smell great Nancy!
Thank you adanst!
You smell carefree!
I’m wearing Miss Dior Cherie for, of course, My Cherie Amour. I don’t know how old my bottle is–pretty old–and I have no recollection whatsoever of why I bought it. It’s not my usual thing in any way, shape, or form. I’ll put a picture of the bottle on IG. It has the silver bow but the letters are just right on the bottle and not on a white label as shown on Fragrantica. I never realized there’s such discussion and debate about the various vintages of it until looking it up just now.
But back to Stevie. I met him when I was in college at Michigan State, probably in winter of 1969-70. I know because he came to a party in our dorm and sang and played piano to “My Cherie Amour” and it was a big hit right at the time. Michigan State had a lot of blind students who had gone to Michigan School for the Blind in Lansing. Among them was a friend of mine named Penny, whom I met in Russian class. She had left MSB for her senior year of high school, just before, which was the first year that handicapped students were mainstreamed into public schools in the state. Through Penny I met various other blind students including a black guy named J.J. who also lived in our dorm, and he and Stevie were long-time friends, who celebrated their birthdays together. So Stevie came to our dorm and there was a party in the music room in the basement of our dorm, to which I was invited because of my connections. Stevie was very affable and TALL. When I met him and shook his hand, he told me I was very pretty! (wink wink). He played a lot and sang and jammed with some of the other students there. I think he would have been 19 or 20 and I was a year younger. There were a couple of serious-looking big bodyguards around him there too.
Penny was also quite musical and played the accordion really well, which proved a fun thing in Russian class, where we regularly learned and sang Russian songs. Apparently there was a big emphasis on music at MSB. They did life-skills and vocational training there; many boys were taught either piano tuning or wooden chair-caning as a way to become employable. Penny went on to work for the telephone company, JJ went off somewhere to work with Stevie, and another guy, Brian, became a lawyer. I have fond memories of those days.
P.S. Penny was blind from birth after being in an incubator and given too much oxygen. I just read in Stevie’s biography that the same thing happened to him. What a shame.
Your story is just great! And yes, it’s so sad that those things happened to preemies back in the day.
What an epic birthday party!
Great story Calypso and how amazing that you got to meet Stevie Wonder and hear him play!
Wow, thank you so much for sharing that cool story. Lucky you!
Thanks for sharing your story!
Awesome story…и здорово, что Вы русскому учились!
That is so cool!!
So hard to pick a favorite song, because I love so many of them, but the song that always makes me smile is one of his early hits, “Up-Tight (Everything is All Right).” Love that horn section! One of the lyrics goes:
She says baby everything is alright, uptight, out of sight
Baby, everything is alright, uptight, clean out of sight
She’s a pearl of a girl, I guess that’s what you might say
I guess her folks brought her up that way.
So my SOTD this morning was Donna Karan’s Cashmere Mist Pearl Essence, one of my first blind buys when I started this hobby. It’s a lovely soft white floral with a base of sandalwood and musk. And here’s Stevie himself — go ahead and tap your feet! https://youtu.be/haiZ1-l_6aE
Oops, posted this in the wrong place! So sorry …
Great story!
What an amazing story!
I’m at the age where I remember watching Stevie Wonder play on “Sesame Street”. One of my favorite SW songs was on that episode, Superstition.
SOTD = FM Superstition, to match the song.
Great song, great perfume!
Thanks lillyjo! I see that we were almost scent and song twins today!
You definitely smell nice!
Thank you! I’d kind of forgotten how much I like Superstitious after I thunked my first sample of it.
I’ve been wearing lots of stuff today since I’m testing some new to me perfumes from the swapmeet. YSL Cinema first thing this morning followed by Perris MC Ylang Nosy Be later on (I like both).
After a shower I settled on Les Indemodables Musc des Sables.
I love Stevie Wonder and have enjoyed reading all of your song/perfume matches ?
I agree with you! I love SW and since I could not think of a match, I’ve just been reading and enjoying everyone else’s pairings. 🙂
SOTD = Coach Leatherware No. 03
This is the third and last one of the now discontinued leather fragrances. It is also my favorite and not just because of the green juice (that is always a plus) but also for its warm and spicy and woody leather.

In other news, one of my nephews defended his master’s thesis yesterday and we were able to join and watch it via Zoom. His masters program is in digital learning design and he showcased a prototype for teaching algebra. There was a Zoom break room afterwards and he explained that the way he designed it is almost like letting the machine learn to teach instead of him writing all the steps to teach. Neat! I may be biased but I think his thesis was the closest to what I think digital learning design is all about. There was one that made an assumption that singles go to a museum to randomly meet people and form a learning group. I scratched my head at that one!
Congratulations to your nephew on defending his thesis! That’s a big milestone.
Thank you, jalapeño!
? I forgot to mention the pairing! I am pairing this with You are the Sunshine of my Life, just as several here did! The No. 03 is supposed to smell like a leather baseball glove and baseball is played usually in spring and summer, when the sun is at its peak.
This is a great pairing!
And congrats to your nephew!
Thanks!
agree with lillyjo! great pairing, and congrats to your nephew, he sounds very smart. 😀
Too tired and sad today to bother with perfume, but reading about all the great songs and scents is uplifting. I hope you’re all doing well and have a wonderful weekend ahead of you!
I’m sorry you are feeling down, Isabella. Is your son back home now?
Oh, that’s so kind of you to remember. He spent most of today with me but will be back with his dad tomorrow. Planning to get all the yard/house/kitchen work done tomorrow so that we have our Sunday free to have mama-son adventures.
hang in there, Isabella. I hope your’re feeling more upbeat soon. I ate a bowl of cold cereal for dinner, couldn’t be bothered to do more as I’m feeling rather “meh” myself. SO GLAD it’s the weekend.
Sending you anti-meh hugs and hopes for a proper dinner tomorrow! Sometimes you just have to skip the effort, though, I know.
Hey all! Chiming in late, but I adore Stevie Wonder so had to participate. I’m sampling Van Cleef and Arpels Precious Oud, and I’m pairing it with “Summer Soft.” I don’t know why, it just seems to go with it. I love all those half-step key changes.
Now I’m gonna read all the rest of the comments :).
yes! those Stevie Wonder key changes can be brilliant. He really is a musical genius, right up there with Mozart and Prince. 😀
100% agree!
Totally off theme. Or at least don’t have the energy to make a connection lol! Wore a few drops Taj Sunset to start the day (thunk) and then this evening Eau de Lierre. It’s nice and green but I prefer L’Ombre dans L’Eau for my Diptyque green. Probably will pass this one on (to andshewaz!).
heh heh, maybe “totally off theme” could be a Friday NST theme. 😉 It would fit with the times, seems like every day is a new adventure in keeping it weird.

BABY! 😀
Excellent choice! That song always makes me smile from the first note to the first word to the very end.
I swear, in my next life I’m coming back as one of those glamorous back-up singers!
