Lazy weekend poll ~ open thread, mid-February 2021

Posted by Robin on 13 February 2021 399 Comments

Saturday is World Radio Day and Sunday is Valentine’s Day.

We're listening to love songs on the radio, and holding our usual open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, your latest fragrance crush, whatever.

Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

    Wow, first. Good morning all!

Love the picture. The vinyl record makes me think of the song my husband put on a tape for me when we were dating. It was when I began to think he was falling for me. Alex Chilton’s Big Star, Back of a Car (not as outré as one might think).

Vinyl folks, what song speaks to you of love?

SoTD: Chanel No 19 EDP, a most working scent.

    Happy Valentine’s day weekend! ❤
I started early my dose of chocolates and roses layering Dame Chocolate Man and FM Une Rose. Yummy combo! ??.

Sharing some time with my sisters and their families later this afternoon to exchange some sweets and most likely have dinner.

Expecting the unpleasant wintry mix in a couple of hours, so ready to have my second cup of coffee and out to run some quick errands.

    Happy weekend, everyone! ?❣

Happy (wintery) Weekend! In a rare move, the MossyBerrys got out and finished shopping before lunch!!! We have the same iffy forecast of snow or something. Back home, well-stocked and ready to get comfy. Some books, some chocolate and fuzzy blankets are in order. But I am going to get my steps in this weekend….

The roads are clear here, but everything else is still covered with half an inch of ice. I feel pretty bad for our mailman as most of the sidewalks are still awful.

My stepfather’s mother passed away last night at the age of 89. I didn’t know her very well. He and my mother married when I was in my twenties, so she wasn’t really like my grandma. I only met her once, but she was always kind to me and sent me cards on my birthdays and for Christmas. Mostly I’m feeling sad for him. He’s planning on leaving for Iowa today to be with his dad and brothers. The forecast says he should be able to get the driving in before more bad weather.

Wearing Hyde by Hiram Green. Basically, I smell like a campfire, which I happen to think is awesome and especially nice on this cold, icy day.

Hyde would have been a good one for the CP.

It’s a strange one. I didn’t like it. Then I tried it again. Then I liked it. Now I’m not sure what I think. Must wear again soon!

I’m in a rose mood, wearing Calligraphy Rose on my left wrist, and Gourmandises on my right. Both are jammy, but the Gourmandises seems lighter and more transparent, with the Calligraphy coming on as much more warm and spicy. All I need now is a spritz of something chocolate-y, and I’d be my own Valentine’s Day gift.

MossyBerry, I really like Calligraphy Rose, too. However, the best of the bunch, in my opinion, is Calligraphy Saffron. It’s not just that it’s good in an absolute sense (which I think it is), but that it works so well with my chemistry. I smell so good when I wear it!

But hey, wasn’t there something the other day that you were interested in, that I was referencing? My brain is mush. Wait a sec……

I did a quick check, and there was! I was wearing Etra, and we talked about Messe di Minuit. Give me a holla (lisadarty in the land of haute mayle) if you’d like to try some – it’s really good!

Happy V-day to everyone and their loved ones, may your love bloom and show not only on this special day ❤

I’m wearing Musc Dahabii from Maison Incens. It’s a nice, powdery one with iris, leather, some balmy notes and sandalwood. Nothing groundbreaking but pleasant and effortless to wear.

Started my split of L’Ivree Bleue few days ago but there aren’t enough people interested to move on. I’ll wait for few more days before calling it quits.

I’m snowed in here, Dapper’s vet appointment was rescheduled because none of the vets could make it to the clinic, city transit is not running and lots of major roadways are closed. I will go defrost the hummingbird feeder in a few minutes, but for now I’m warm and wearing Shalimar Mexique. Might go for a walk if the snow stops, but it is still coming down hard.

Good morning. I’m in my vintage Coco again. It’s cold and windy and snowy in Seattle. I think we already have 6 – 8″ of snow.

I made a delicious German chocolate cake last night a Valentine’s Day/Mr SP’s bday cake. His bday was back in January but we had a family trip that weekend and he didn’t get a cake. German chocolate is one of my least favorite cakes so I usually try to talk him out of it, but this time, I just looked for a recipe that I thought would be better and here it is (from Cafe Latte café in St. Paul MN, known for their desserts –or at least supposedly their recipe!):
    https://cookbookcreate.com/recipes/32659-german-chocolate-cake
It turned out really well. In fact, I had a piece with my coffee this morning. Life is short, right?

You smell fabulous. Funny story on how I first smell vintage Coco: I ordered a mini of Royal Secret and the seller (a long-time Ebayer who has lots of vintage perfumes) sent me a half-full 30ml Coco in error, that must have had a lot of residue around the spayer. When I unwrapped the box, I was greeted with a cloud of fabulous. I was so tempted to try it, and I still remember that fabulous smell, but I felt honor bound not to touch it. She made all good but often I have wished she’d said, oh just keep it :D

Thanks. I actually just have two large samples of vintage Coco that a kind swapper sent me once. I’ve been wearing it regularly this winter. LOVE the drydown–so gorgeous. My new hunt will be vintage fragrances at garage sales when we do that again!

How does African Rose compare to African Leather?

        13 February 2021 at 4:20 pm

It’s got the same prominent saffron-leathery notes but instead of the spicy richness (cardamom-cumin) it’s a jammy rose that shifts into a little powdery as it dries down. AF is a bomb of a scent on me, 2 sprays gasses out the whole house – AR is softer in comparison but hardly a skin scent.

If you’re a cumin hater, go for the rose over the leather. It’s in both per fragrantica but I can’t detect it in African Rose. I’ve been loving them both.

Testing some of the Anna Zworykina fragrances: so far I tried My Vanilla(a very smoky vanilla), Cuir Russe (I am not a fan of leather but this one is a love for me – try leather with a nice floral dry down), coffee and chocolate (like the overall effect but have time picking up coffee notes. Chocolate comes is more a boozy chocolate which is just nice for me) and Black Gardenia (leathery dark floral). Also tried Shiny Amber – nice summer amber but a bit too citrusy/grapefruity for me and Winter Light (nice but a no). Quite impressed with Anna’s skill especially when it comes to leather notes. Would to hear other’s experiences with her work!!

Commando at present. No new snow here today; we have brilliant sunshine — a rarity in a Finger Lakes winter — and it is COLD. (Currently feels like 10 F.) Last night’s bonfire was so much fun — we stayed for three hours, buoyed by homemade chili, friends we hadn’t seen in ages, and yes, a bit of whiskey. It got down to about 7F but there was no wind and we were well layered up! Even post-shower I can smell a little woodsmoke today.

Other weekend treats are a video chat this evening with our daughter who lives on the other side of the planet AND takeout dinner tomorrow from a local restaurant. We do not do much for Valentine’s Day but the restaurant’s prix fixe* special was too tempting to pass up.

*Took FOUR tries to convince autocorrect to let that phrase stay as written.

The sun is coming out! Perhaps I’ll get in a walk later. In the meantime, continuing my slow progress on cleaning out every cabinet in the laundry room / pantry. The room currently looks like a junk heap thanks to the mess I’m making plus the mess DH is making working on an electrical project. Yikes.

I’m wearing a sampler of Galivant Brooklyn. Nice, but (at least in winter) very close to the skin.
The NY Times website has a bunch of Valentine’s related stories.

    1. A certain species of cockroaches settle down for a monogamous life in a log home, by a literally clipping each others wings, engaging in a ritual of taking turns eating the other’s wings off. That’s commitment.
2.Happy news from the Tessica Brown, a plastic surgeon with a talent for chemistry developed a formula and scalp massage technique to remove the Gorilla Glue from her hair Ms. Brown clarified that she never intended to sue, and again warned others who might be primping for a special event that it is better to just wear a hat if you run out of hair gel.
    3. Elementary School Kids are now able to distribute to their class mates those stale candy hearts that are a staple of grade school valentine day parties. Although the NECCO company shut down, another firm bought the rights to those candy hearts and has even created new sayings so the little hearts are once again available this year.
Oh wait, the school kids are not actually in school. I guess they can hold up the little hearts to each other over zoom.

Per the Wall Street Journal “The maker of Necco Wafers, Clark Bars, Sweethearts and other vintage candies is shutting down abruptly, weeks after the billionaire who bought it out of bankruptcy, C. Dean Metropoulos, complained he wasn’t clued in about sanitation issues and refused to pay the final $1 million.”

Another company, Spangler brought the candy heart rights began to make the hearts sometime in 2020.

Jumped on the rose bandwagon…wasn’t even thinking of Valentine’s Day. It was more about mixing some rose oil with my after-shower lotion and following that with Ta’if.

Taking it easy today. We’ve had a bit of a scramble the past week. When I mentioned we went on vacation to Door County last summer/fall, it was to explore the purchase of a home. We closed yesterday. It was new construction on a duplex condo…next door neighbor and seller is my husband’s best high school friend. Most people move to warmer climes as they age…we are doing the opposite. ??. It will be extremely hard to leave NYC. Especially for my husband…this city runs so deep in his blood. I’ll be sending him on visits multiple times a year. So, now the packing begins for a move, hopefully in late March. And it means my days of easy sniffing access are over. ?. But, we will be near the water and close to downtown.

    Happy Saturday!

It’s rainy here but no ice, snow or frigid temperatures like many of you are experiencing at the moment.
It’s been a busy day in the kitchen for me. I made meatloaf, a big pot of matzo ball soup and chocolate chip cookies (with some dried sour cherries and candied orange peel thrown in) and I’m ready to relax with NST and a book.
I started the day in Anima Dulcis and later switched to Vanille Havane (Les Indemodables).
    Be well all!

I did not. I’m still using my sample. I like it but not enough for a full bottle (yet; I may change my mind). I did end up getting decants of Iris Perle, Chypre Azural and Musc des Sables.
Have you tried these? What do you think?

        Clarissa, here is the recipe:

        https://www.parsleysagesweet.com/easyrecipe-print/18-0/

These cookies are supposed to be a copycat of the Levain Bakery (in NYC) ones. I don’t think they are quite the same but they’re pretty good nonetheless. I use Ghirardelli (or Guittard) bittersweet chocolate chips and no nuts but usually add candied orange peel for something extra. I also form the dough into balls and freeze all of them, taking one or two out to bake as needed.

No scent of the day yet; maybe that pre-SotD spritz of Queen Latifah. A perfumed story: I was just blathering on about Plato’s Closet as a source of discounted perfumes at NST a few days ago. Our town has one next to the Kroger, so I can stop in every week. Today, they had a Bee Bottle; but it looked funny. The label was very plain, only said Guerlain. Took a chance and when I got home did the research and it turned out, almost certainly, to be someone’s customizable choice: https://www.happi.com/contents/view_breaking-news/2018-06-05/guerlain-showcases-custom-bottles/ It looks like the yellow one in the front, and the bottom sticker says it contains Aqua Allegoria Pera Granita edt. Who knew?!?

It’s another cold and rainy day – we’re hovering at the border between “really cold rain” and “freezing rain”. I’m having a lazy day doing laundry and going through my makeup collection – I am soooo bad at throwing out makeup that is old. But I never finish any, and it seems so wasteful just to toss it. I guess I need to try to find just a few products that I like and stuck with them. Lip products are the worst, because I never realize how many I have when they’re scattered between purses. I gathered them all and was horrified to realize that I had 3 different lipsticks that I’ve unintentionally purchased more than one tube of. ?‍♀️

My SOTD is Bois Blond by Parfumerie Generale. I’ve been reading all of your rose choices and thought “I should wear a rose perfume”, but roses and I have a complicated relationship so I chose Bois Blond instead.

I sometimes keep older makeup because: 1. I am the only one who’s used it, and 2. I am very conscientious when I use make up. I would not recommend anyone else keep old makeup, but….

I use make-up that’s years old. I’m careful not to end up with old moisturiser and foundation and such, but I still use lipsticks that are at least 10 years old, and I’ve got eyeshadows that I bought over 30 years ago – they’re still fine, and I seem to be too :)

I’m kind of like you, Gaynor. If it’s a pressed powder, eyeshadow or blush, I keep it forever. It’s basically inert. Now, I’ve had lipsticks and gloss go bad, so I go through that stash every so often.

I definitely keep eyeshadow and blush and powder for as long as it takes to use them up. I pulled out some eyeshadow that’s probably 15 years old the other day; I’ve been using it over the years, and it’s nearly gone. The cases go rubbery-sticky before the powder goes bad (if it ever does).

Lipstick I keep until it gets that old lipstick smell. I’m sure it’s still good, but I just can’t take the smell. Also it seems more sticky and not creamy over time.

Powder product last nearly forever, if you don’t use them with your fingers. Lipstick is okay as long as it smells normal and not rancid. But I don’t use mascara after 6 months.

Resting on the couch after some intense Sunday morning cleaning. I’m always surprised at how much dirt gets transferred to me! I haven’t decided yet on a morning perfume, but something reasonably light, as we’re joining friends for a yum char lunch.
Meanwhile, I’ve been exploring my Luckyscent samples. Eris’s Green Spell is rather nice and lasts longer than I first thought, so it goes on the list of possible future purchases.
Amouage’s Crimson Rocks is OK, but only OK, lots of nice spice, but it lacks the richness and depth I expected.
A real find is Lost in Heaven from Francesca Bianchi, and it’s gone straight to the top of the purchase list. It makes me think of Salome and Rubj, and other such things that I love. It’s lighter than Salome, which is a positive, Salome can be too much of a good thing and is only suitable for home.

Snowed in in Seattle and wearing a thunked sample of Iris Perle – another lovely iris that doesn’t last long enough to justify a bottle purchase.

While I was experiencing flu like symptoms after my 2nd vaccine (and feeling extremely grateful!) I watched the Frederic Malle interview with the perfumers who created his best selling fragrances for his 20th anniversary. Anne Flipo was also included and I’m looking forward to her new fragrance.

It was interesting to hear these greats talking about working with Malle, the future of perfume, the industry, etc. It was as interesting to watch the dynamics between them (e.g. Pierre Bourdon is quite a talker and I wished I could have read Dominique Ropion’s mind as he stayed relatively quiet throughout).

I also think it might be a good idea to take the day off if possible.
I worked the day after my first Moderna vaccine and my arm was sore to the point I could barely lift it. I scheduled the second one on a Friday and I’m glad I did because I had mild joint pain/fatigue for about 24 hours.
On the other hand my husband (who got Pfizer) had nothing but a vague soreness at the injection site both times and went to work as scheduled.

I’d tell him to plan to take the day off just in case. In my office, some people had almost no symptoms after the second shot and some were sick enough (just for a day) with fever and body aches that they had to call in sick. My husband had no symptoms his second day. I had a mildly sore arm and felt tired. But I also front-loaded with Tylenol and took Advil midday because rescheduling a day of patients is pretty difficult.

Mr. G and I woke at about 4 a.m. to a power failure, 25 degrees and snowing outside, and rapidly falling temperatures in the house. We lit the fireplace and put big pots of water on the stove (gas, thankfully) to add a tiny bit more warmth to the kitchen. Tried to go back to sleep, but neither of us could so we got the sleeping bags out, made some cocoa and bundled up on the couch in front of the fire. Our local utility’s original estimate of repair time was early on the 15th (yes, a day and a half away), but somehow someone figured something out because the power came back on just after lunchtime. It’s still pretty chilly in here, but I have blankets and tea and, all in all, am happy.

All that to explain why I’m still commando, perfume-wise – not ready to expose any skin yet. ?

Yikes! We had an outage a couple of days ago at about 5:45 AM. It only lasted about 2 1/2 hours, but the worst thing was that when I tried to report it to the automated voice system, the robot voice informed me that the repairs had already been completed. First–if the repairs are already completed, why is the entire street dark, with no lights at all, including the streetlights? Second–how on earth could they have sent a crew to repair the problem in five minutes? Third–why oh why can I not speak to an actual human being instead of the irritating voice system. There was no opportunity to leave a message or tell it that the repairs were NOT completed and that it was not only my house that was affected, but at least a couple hundred others as well. I guess they finally figured it out, because the power cam back on a little after 8:00.

I’m in Maya Njie Vanilj. I think we made it to 2 degrees today. I have my warmest wool sweater on (again) and my best fudgy brownies in the oven. This is the longest stretch of single digit temps my state has had since 1963 and I’m more than ready for it to be over. At least the sun and blue sky peeked out for awhile this afternoon.

Inspired by pl67 and pixel and clarissa, I have a dozenish samples looking to be rehomed. Please call dibs here and you can email me p k wisdom(one word) in the land of yahoooo.

I love it! It reminds me of Eau Duelle with the note of cardamom, but I no longer have my decant of that one to do a side by side. I’m tempted by the travel spray.

I ended up buying a travel spray-sized discovery set because I did not pay attention and thought the regular discovery set was sold out. No regrets though as they are all very well done.

When I feel bad about my temperature, I just look at yours. I’ve been getting into the teens, because of the lake. Below zero wind chill in the morning. It looks like next Sunday the temps will start getting back to normal.

I’m wearing many sprays of Cacao Azteque by Perris Monte Carlo from my recent sample batch I bought through Indigo. This one was just a sort of “Why not?” addition to the mainly floral-citrus things I was most interested in. Well, it may well be a winner, and is certainly comforting on a cold gray day. I don’t get a lot of cacao, but it’s got lots of spice, pepper out the wazoo, and surprising florals. I might like more chocolate, but what there is here is awfully nice. Woke up at 6 a.m. to get ready for a 3-hour Zoom conference that was at an early EARLY hour to accommodate international participants. It was good but basically ruined my day–I’m just not a morning person. I cooked (ha ha, “cooked” = microwaved) some frozen Korean dumplings for lunch and plan to do a chicken stir fry with asparagus, etc., for dinner in awhile. Houston might get temps on Monday from 5 to 9 degrees which is almost unheard of–the lowest temp ever recorded here was 5. Many people are excited about snow. I wouldn’t mind, but don’t want my pipes to burst or to lose power due to ice on the lines. I’ve put out extra bird seed and the doves have been cramming like crazy, so I think they know something. Stay warm, all of you fellow people in the Northern Hemisphere!

Sometimes when I microwave dumplings, I coat them with a very thin layer of sesame oil, and then try to find some fancy vinegar to sprinkle on the cooked ones.

Hi everyone! It finally stopped snowing this afternoon; I already shoveled once this morning but should probably do it again so it doesn’t get trampled and bumpy and then icy. Le sigh.

I’m trying a new-to-me sample: SL L’Eau de Paille. It reminds me of an old-school men’s cologne. If it actually smelled more like straw I’d be more into it.

    SOTD = Masque Milano Madeleine

… from the Le Donne di Masque line. It’s a not too sweet gourmand and I will describe it as a sweet and spicy vanilla chestnut cream perfume. There’s a little bit of coffee as well. Lucas did a write-up. It’s not a favorite – money saved.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/CLQGheJBU2W/?igshid=7b2vcfuoon1i

So I have no dial-tone again! This usually happens when there’s inclement weather and I am now convinced that a fix somewhere usually causes something to go awry with my line. The earliest appointment I could get is for Wednesday 2/17 from 8AM to 9PM – say what??? I ended up finding my way to speak to an agent and she was able to move it up to 2/16 from 3PM to 7PM… not really that much better. I am hoping that my wireless somehow continues to work because I am not interested in using my data plan all day!

Hunkering down as ice crystals were falling earlier at 3:30ish when I got home from an earlier errands run.

The Waft from the Loft notes are church garden, smoothed antique woods, incense infused old stone, red wine.

Lotus Rising notes are Vintage Pink Lotus, Vintage lue Lotus, Champaca, Frangipani, Jasmine, Rose, Iris, Bontanical Musk Accord.

SotD is Sandalwood Sacré from Le Jardin Retrouvé which is really lovely and grounding. I needed some calm and clarity today.

I got a job offer on Thursday morning!… Yay! With a salary offer that was at least 30% lower than the absolute minimum I would consider acceptable. Ouf. While I would be thrilled to get back to performing, there are limits.

Had a lovely chat with the company manager Thursday afternoon where I outlined my base pay expectations (and have some confirmation from others in the industry that those are reasonable) but am still waiting to hear back at this point.

In the meantime, KitKats and herbal tea and perfume are keeping me reasonably calm.

I hope they come to their senses! I was in a similar position when I was applying after a year out of the workforce — got an offer that I wanted to take, but they were offering 20% less than I’d made in the same job at a similar company 10 years before. Negotiation worked — they came up to at least meet that salary.

    Happy late Saturday to all!

The lunar new year is off to a good start for me, my parents finally got their vaccines today (first dose). It’s been hard for them to get appointments, so I’m thrilled and relieved. And they’ve scheduled their second dose for next month.

I’ve been sampling scents today. I spritz on two that, in my mind, reminded me of one another: MFK’s Gentle Fluidity Gold and Essential’s Divine Vanille. Side by side, they aren’t anywhere near dupes, but sort of have a similar vibe. The Gentle Fluidity is louder and more tenacious but it definitely has that synthetic MFK sweet woody note. I think I prefer the Divine Vanille, and happy to have the travel spray size but would probably never get something bigger.

Sotd was Cafe Tuberosa. Still cold and snowy here. I received my travel spray of Black Orchid Parfum. It had leaked some. I took it back to the store but couldn’t find anything else to exchange it for. ( I didn’t want to reorder, because I realized I liked the edp better, and I already have a few samples) I tried the new La Vie Belle, the solar one. It was nice enough, but something I would get with a good discount someday. Anyway, I ended up getting my daughter some skin care. Wishing everyone an early spring!????

Glad you found something to exchange for, Lillyjo! How would you characterise the difference between the edp and Parfum? I think I may have liked the Parfum more but would need to do a side by side. On the other hand, Iv discovered a lot of Tom Fords make my eyes water so…

I wish I could elaborate but I’m not sure how to describe the difference. They do smell pretty much the same, but I would say the Parfum is slightly quieter. Many people have said it’s more smooth smelling, I can’t say I detected that. The edp lasted hours longer on me during a side by side.

This one smells wonderful, though I would rather smell it on someone else, or as an ambient scent in a room. It gets a little tiring for my nose. Not surprising for something named after the king of the jungle.

A funny scent thing happened to me. The other day I kept smelling Big Red and Bubble Yum chewing gums, favorites from my youth. So strange! Where was it coming from? Finally, I realized my sweater smelled of the remnants from Ambre Narguile and Songes. Delicious. :)

Our Mother was quite fond of perfume and used to wear it to church and special occasions. Sis used to wear Diorissimo regularly, and we bonded over Queen Latifah, which she always wears now and smells wonderful in. Wow! 8″! We are on the bubble; maybe will get that and maybe a dusting!?

I had doubts about the rose-chocolate combo before layering, but it was really fun and delish! ? I will do it more often now. I love Lyric and is one of my favorite rose perfumes. If you have not tried it yet, please let me know and I will add a sample to your package ?. It is a great perfume!

Hi pl67, I would LOVE to try some Lyric! I’ve actually never tried any of the Amouages and have been very curious. It seems like a great house, but has always intimidated me with all the male/female versions sharing the same name!

I know it could be intimidating, but I have approach Amouage without paying attention to the gender. I just try and decide if I like or dislike what I am sampling. Taking it so seriously will cause tons of stress. I will definitely send you some Amouage samples. It will be fun for younto start exploring the line.

I agree with PL67… disregard the gender designations on the Amouage, and approach with an open mind. No need to be scared or intimidated! ?

Miserable and rainy here in southeastern Virginia. And there does not seem to be any let up in sight. Wearing Cartier Declaration, a Valentine’s Day tradition. The red box, the heart shaped shoulders of the flacon. Lemon, cardamom and cumin goodness. It really is very savory. Happy Valentine’s Day and Happy Lunar New Year!

In SJP Stash today, one of the few perfumes DH notices and compliments. Had many different ideas (I just joined the Fille de Berlin fan club recently) but thought why not wear what I know he likes? We have beautiful, sunny cold weather, but the winter storm may still move in later tonight. Warm thoughts to all!

Happy VD everyone! I’m working on another old sample today: Ormonde Jayne Ta’if. A spicy, dusty rose. I read the composition notes on the website after trying to guess, and I never would have picked up the dates but now I notice them. Or am I just really suggestible?

Happy Valentine’s Day! Not sure yet what my SOTD will be, but it’ll have to be either Azemour, LADDM, 31 rue Cambon, or Saturday, since those are the samples in my travel bag. (Hmm…probably Saturday to start, I think.)

We’re holed up in a cottage way up at the end of the road (quite literally — you cannot drive further north from here). This seemed like the safest way to not be in our house for once while seeing very few people. It’s been snowing all weekend (unusual here, not so much for everyone else!), so we’re just stowed away in a winter wonderland, doing puzzles, playing games, and occasionally hitting the hot tub. It’s very peaceful and relaxing! Later this morning I’ll start on a chocolate skillet cake for tonight.

Today I showered with Rose Jam and then topped myself up with incense – Provision’s Manifest body oil followed by their Resonance perfume. I feel grounded which is good, because when I went to the grocery store it was an absolute madhouse. I haven’t seen it like that since the very beginning of the pandemic when everyone was stocking up on everything.

At home relaxing and staying out of the rain. I just feel bad for the dog – she’s not getting as much time outside and is pouty.

    Happy Valentine’s Day!?

Trying Vanille Botanique the last sample from a DSH gourmand discovery set…this is the best of the set but still doesn’t wow me somehow.

I have bad eczema on my hands that has flared up probably due to stress. :( I use lots of unscented hand creams but am finally going to get something prescription from the dermatologist. Was trying to avoid steroid creams but was wondering if anyone has recommendations for prescription creams they are using for eczema please.

I have had extremely bad hand eczema and have tried almost everything (coconut oil, beeswax, you name it). My #1 recommendation is Cerave moisturizing cream, it works so well to heal my skin and keep the flare ups at bay. A friend’s dermatologist said ceramides in that cream heal the skin, and I couldn’t agree more. I use it multiple times a day on my hands. When I get a really bad flare up, I’ll use prescription steroid cream (Fluocinonide, .05%) at night, and then moisturize heavily with Cerave throughout the day. One or two application of the steroid seems to do the trick these days for me, I try not to use it for a prolonged time period. I also started doing meditation since I believe my initial flare up was due to stress as well, and that seemed to help.

Good luck!! Eczema can really be so awful.

Mr. Teebear uses a combination of prescribed taro-diclofenac (a non steroidal anti-inflammatory cream) under a thin layer of Glaxal Base (available at the drug store, has generic versions) which was recommended to him by the doctor.

His eczema is evil and extremely itchy and he can get infections from scratching it open. This has been the best combination of stuff he’s found if he applies it regularly.

Handy note, he was told to always wash his hands *thoroughly* after applying the taro-diclofenac to avoid contaminating the cats with any of it on their fur as they would ingest it later while grooming.

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! I don’t often have enough time to read the weekend poll these days, but it’s nice seeing everyone’s posts. I am waiting for chili to simmer in the crockpot. Perfect for snowy, insanely cold weather. Wearing Lengling Munich A La Carte No. 6. Very gourmand with toffee, vanilla, pistachio and oud. A little goes a long way. Bought it when we were in Germany in 2016 as a souvenir. Planning to make creme brulee for dessert!

I had no clue what this smells like but since a partial bottle was available at a reasonable price, why not?

    Song of the Day: https://youtu.be/voNEgCKzves

    Happy Valentine’s Day, NST! ?

A quiet weekend here for me. I had freezing rain yesterday afternoon, so I hunkered down and decided that I wasn’t going anywhere. Definitely had a glaze of ice all over when night fell. Still slick outside today, so I figured I’d just stay in and do a load of laundry.

SOSaturday = AG Ambre Fetiche EdP. It even goes well with a bit of sleep deprivation.

SOTD = SSS Rose Volupte EdT, from my little travel spray. I was inspired by perfumelover67’s run with the roses to wear this today. But there’s a good change I might bounce back over to the Ambre Fetiche tomorrow…
