Monday, Monday. Birthdays: Jules Verne, Kate Chopin, Neal Cassady. And happy 16th to Now Smell This! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm keeping warm in Serge Lutens Chêne.
Reminder: on 2/12, welcome the Year of the (Metal) Ox! Wear a fragrance that represents diligence, dependability, loyalty, honesty and hard work.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Wishing NST a sweet 16! In the dregs of Une Fleur de Cassie pre-shower. Will continue with my sample of Iris Cendre afterwards.
NST thanks you 🙂
Wow, quite an achievement! Thank you, Robin!
I love the whoosh of tea smell you get when you first remove the cellophane from a brand new box of tea. ?
Tea of the day is Taylor’s Assam + Republic of Tea chai.
SOTD is Moonlight in Chiangmai, and it was yesterday also. The yuzu is evident at the start, but it’s spicy, too. Pineapple, later in the game. Big thanks to the NSTer who sent this sample to me! ❤️
Forgot to mention….happy 16th to NST!
Republic of tea “Tea Twins”
I love that smell too! Especially green oolongs, they just smell so fantastic.
I’ll have to try a green oolong. I love the milk oolongs and jasmine oolongs. They just send me.
Happy birthday! SOTD is another discovery set sample. This week I’m wearing Gallivant. Today is Brooklyn.
I like that one. Very cheerful!
I love Brooklyn! You smell great.
Happy birthday NST! Still in Gypsy Water from yesterday, it lasts surprisingly long on clothes. Will most likely wear it again today.
Thank you!
Lauren was the heir apparent to the Chopard family empire, but it was becoming apparent that he was unsuited for nearly every facet of the business he would some day take over. (Pun intended) The arts of watch and jewelry making require the utmost precision and patience. Lauren had neither. A few semesters in higher education had educated him in all the substances to get high. The entire faculty united in demanding Lauren’s explulsion.
Everyone understood that he should not be given a position in the finance side, since no one could trust him not to help himself to the firm’s finances.
The marketing department however had seemed a safe haven in which to place him. However, his introduction of himself to the models had been so alarming that they ran to the EEOC for protection. and the EEOC was about to introduce a new ruling that even models should be free from such harassment, particularily 15 year old models, as had been scheduled to be sapphires for this particular photoshoot.
Lauren’s cousin, who worked in the legal department had to quickly step in with a settlement including guaranteed tuition through college and medical school (when the model turned old enough to apply) an immediate cash bonus, and emerald jewelry sets for the girl and her mother and, of course, a non-disclosure agreement.
In short, every effort to bring young Lauren into the business had been a bust.
Then Lauren was busted, with such vast amounts of cocaine, so many full of dubious prescriptions and shopping bags of weed, that even the general counsel had a hard time convincing the prosecutor that Lauren had neither the skill nor drive to be a dealer, and this really was all for Lauren’s personal use. As a condition of very high bail, Lauren would have to get a job. Since he was unemployable by anyone else, this meant he would have to be given a job, somewhere else in the company
Well, at least he could be stuck in the fragrance department. After the lousy sales of Madness and other launches, he really can’t do any worse. Frightened by the potential of a long sentence. Lauren actually did prepare for his first meeting with the firm’s nose; he spent all night reading the ads of every other perfume. He then raided his hidden stashes to find everything he could take to stay awake for the meeting.
In the meeting, (at the ungodly early hour of 1:00 p.m. the next day), Lauren gave a brief listing every single note and word, he could remember from the night’s “research”: Opium, Amber, vanilla, pineapple, mango, vanilla, spice, amber, Opium, oriental, vanilla, incense, smoke, chypre, vanilla, seductive, mystery, vanilla…”
So that is what the perfumer came back with.
Wonderful, Lauren cried, but I can’t quite smell it. The nose refrained from pointing out that Lauren’s sense of smell may have been impaired by years of luxuriating in cocaine, and agreed to amp it up.
Lauren doused himself in an entire bottle of final juice to show the judge he really had accomplished something professionally for his next hearing. The overwhelmed Judge ordered Laruen’s immediate release, “I mean immediate, like get out of this Court Room in ten seconds before I choke.”
SOTD: Casmir. Which is actually a great winter scent, for when you really need a PERFUME. The first couple of hours are everything on top of vanilla. It then settles down to a kind of incensey vanilla, and then down to a few hours more of vanilla without ever quite getting sweet.
PS: Given the billion dollar defamation suits filed last week, let me state the obvious. The above review is completely fictional. This story states nothing true about the ownership or management of the company or brand Choppard or the EEOC or our judicial system. I assume that there, was at least once, a jeweler named Choppard who started a business, but I have no idea if there is still such a family or if it is connected with the brand. If there is someone named Lauren Choppard, I never met him and know nothing about him.
I snickered SO HARD reading this! Thank you for getting my week off to a great start!
“This is a work of fiction. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is purely (yet entertainingly) coincidental.”
Omg, this made my morning.
I was really rooting for him at the end! Got to try a little Casmir again.
? This was superbly entertaining!
*clap clap clap*
Happy birthday! It’s chilly. I’m cold. SOTD is Tom Ford Noir Anthracite.
Darned cold here too. Going to just stay in.
The Earth goes around the sun sha-la-la..Happy Birthday NST!!
A perfume that represents diligence, dependability, loyalty, honesty and hard work..SOTD Shalimar from my beautiful limited edition bottle.
Toast this morning with plum butter, Republic of Tea Assam mixed with a Persian Earl Grey from Kalustyans
You smell lovely, tea twin!
Republic of Tea triplet! I went with a couple of green teas today.
Happy 16th birthday! Thank you to NST for being a wonderful part of my life for, goodness, five years, I think? It’s been a while.
I’m celebrating in Iris Torrefie 🙂
You smell lovely Koyel!
I used to be very cynical about Valentine’s Day, but something — probably the daily outpouring of affection and dreamy compliments and little heart-strewn drawings from my son — has got me in a lovey mood this year, craving heart-shaped raspberry jammy things and red frocks. So I think I’ll be perfuming myself to match this week. Today I’m in Rahat Loukoum, and yes, headed out into the woods to look at some hazard trees, but I’m just working with a close friend today and he won’t care if I smell like cherries and almonds!
I’ve been eyeing an order of Turkish Delight off of Etsy, so I’m with you in spirit on the Rahat Loukoum front!
Oo, does someone on Etsy have good-looking Turkish delight for sale?
I hesitate to link it, because it’s going to make you hungry, but here you go……
https://www.etsy.com/search?q=turkish%20delight
Gah! One of each, please!
That is so sweet!!
Awww. That’s so nice to hear!
Happy 16th Birthday NST and thank you for being here!
In Ta’if again today. I’m nearing the end of my bottle and since this remains one of my favorite rose perfumes I will likely repurchase it.
Wishing everyone a safe and uneventful week (unless the event is a happy one)!
Congrats on finishing or nearly finishing a bottle. Still seems like an impossibility for me!
Thank you E! I know, it’s getting harder these days when we have accumulated so much but I’ve managed to finish a few bottles in the past several years (and I’m not including the ones I’ve split with others).
Congrats on the impending bottle thunk!
Happy 16th Anniversary, NST! ?
I am in FM Portrait of a Lady, one of my favorite rose perfumes that I keep forgetting to wear more often.
Thanks for your good wishes to the dove on Friday. I dropped her at the Wildlife Rescue Center and I have not been able to get any updates on her health yet. They only do it thru emails, not over the phone, but the automated email message I get from them is that they are busy now and I will get back to me later. I want to think she is in the process to recover. I hope to hear about her later on.
Having my second cup of coffee with a thick slice of Japanese milk bread and a piece of Amish country style feta cheese. Yummy!
Happy Monday, everyone! ?
I’ve never tried Japanese milk bread – google images make it look like it has the (wonderful) texture of parker house rolls. Is that a fair comparison?
Japanese milk rolls are much fluffier, softer and airy. Delish!
The dove is in the best possible hands – I’m sorry you have to wait to hear about her (him?).
?
What’s different about Amish country style feta?
Amish is free of additives and hormones. It is creamier, softer and not as sharp and salty as Greek feta. The texture is similar to French feta.
Thanks! I didn’t know that French feta was a thing, either. Good thing I read about this AFTER dinner! ?

It yours! ?
Happy sweet 16, NST!?
I wore Santal 33 yesterday and can still smell some this morning, so continuing with the sandalwood theme, I’m in 10 Corso Como.
I woke up early this morning from a strange and upsetting dream. I tried but couldn’t get back to sleep. Luckily I’m home today so I don’t need too much brain power to function. I’m about to dial up an Adriene’s yoga, that should make me feel better.
In other smelly fun news, I was able to order 3 of the IKEA Osynlig candles yesterday!? This was my strategy for those of you who have also tried unsuccessfully to get them shipped. I went to the website and literally added all the candles to my cart. Yep, all 19 of them.? When I got to the checkout and entered my zip I got a message that some weren’t available to ship and to remove them. I was left with 3, lol. Two of them are scents I really wanted to try and the third I might give to my mom. She loves candles.
You smell wonderful; I haven’t worn that one in a while. And yay for the candles! Which three did you get?
Thanks! I got Swedish birch & juniper, cassis & freesia and firewood & spice. I can’t wait to try them!
Humph, of course bitch and juniper and firewood and spice would come out after I get my candles.
Lol, sorry Koyel.?
Oh shoot. I should have tried that. I just ordered something from IKEA last night but didn’t look at the candles. Enjoy them!
Thanks! Yeah, I’ve never done that before but in the back of my mind I was like you’ve got to be kidding me that NONE of these candles is available to ship. They are a small item.
Hey, that’s a great idea! I’ll try that. You smell great – sorry about the unsettling dream.
Thanks! You’ll have to report back on if you try that strategy.
Happy Birthday to NST! Almost a full grown adult 😉
At night an intense snowing has started and still continues (and it’s 5 PM now). The city has been paralyzed, everyone drives very slowly and carefully and roads are white with snow and it’s slippery. I went to work by public transportation and that didn’t take as much longer as I thought it might.
Rose Anonyme to kick-start a new week.
Glad you got to work safely. How is your uncle doing?
I believe he’s okay, isolating at home along with aunt and cousins who require quarantine because of direct contact…
That’s good to hear! Take care, Lucas. ?
Thanks and you too!
You smell delectable. ?
Why thank you! I wonder what a Rose Anonyme inspired desert would look and taste like.
Ohhh, the mind reels. Perhaps a very rich semi-sweet chocolate mousse inflected with rose petals and a hint of pinot noir, and topped with cardamom whipped cream?
Add some waffer rolls and I’m ready to eat
Currently in vintage no 22 edt and heading off to work right now. After 2 days off, I don’t want to go to work.
Sorry Dawn, hope it was an ok day!
Happy Sweet 16 NST!
SOTD is Le Labo Baie 19 from a 1 ml sample. I like the herbal, woods, and water – like walking in the woods in early spring when everything is defrosted but damp, the leaves and greenery are growing but it is still too early for flowers, and the air is brisk so you still need a sweater. I like this more as at atmosphere scent though – I’d prefer it in a candle or, even better, in a diffuser rather than wearing it.
Ooh, that sounds really nice! On the sample list it goes.
Your description sounds like CB I Hate Perfume’s Black March…
It does! I haven’t sampled Black March, but now I’m curious, especially to see how the “soil tincture” note (per Fragrantica) would distinguish them.
Happy sweet 16 to NST, thank you Robin for your devotion to this blog & community, we appreciate you!
Wearing Lancôme Santal Kardamom.
You smell great!
Thank you cazaubon!
Trying Vanilj by Maya Njie today. Lots of cardamon and almost gingery to my nose but don’t think it’s listed as a note.
I got cardamom from that one too, kind of reminded me of Eau Duelle. I didn’t get any ginger though. How do you like it?
That’s a nice vanilla, without being sweet. It layers beautifully, too.
I’m in Iris Prima and accidentally participating in the CP because ballerinas are required to have most of the qualities listed, or at the very least they are required to put in much hard work. Tea of the moment is the dregs of a latte. A second one will be in my hands as soon as I get out of my chair and go make it … speaking of hard work. ?
I had a bit of a latte this afternoon too 🙂
Happy Sweet 16, NST!
No SOTD yet. Have been working since I got up, while getting the kid to school, and am still hoping to squeeze in a workout on the bike at 9:30. It was that kind of weekend, as well — worked most of the day Saturday but squeezing in a workout. The glories of working from home, where there are no boundaries. I work New York Intense yesterday, just kind of randomly pulling it out of the drawer, and I’d forgotten how much I like it.
I’ll have to think about Ox perfumes for after my workout. 🙂
Hope you managed to get on the bike, and sounds like you need a staycation!
My Monday Mini is VCA First parfum. I find it fascinating that JCE composed this, having previously only experienced his Hermès offerings. Then again, it was the 70’s. Happy Birthday to NST!
And IIRC, it was literally his first? Too lazy to go check but I think that’s right and I’m sure somebody will correct me if I am wrong 🙂
Happy Sweet 16! Thank you Robin for providing this forum and community for all of us.
I happen to have bought a bottle of First at a discounter today, partly because I was curious about JCE’s “first” and now here it is being mentioned. Can’t wait to try it.
Wearing a sample that I’ve almost thunked of Iris Perle. I love iris and orris and everything in between.
Happy Birthday NST and congratulations on such a wonderful success. It occurs to me that I’ve been reading likely since near the beginning. I spent a lot of time looking at blogs back in 2004-2006. But, I only lurked until about 2013.
Unintentional, but a nod to the birthday is my SOTD. OJ Vanille d’Iris. Ormonde Jayne was one of the first niche perfumers I heard about via NST (I was already wearing Nicolai). Such that I made a special trip to the store in Old Bond Street during a business trip to London in 2007. I didn’t buy anything but some time later ordered a discovery set. This isn’t my favorite OJ, but I noticed it on Saturday when pulling together some samples for a friend’s daughter. It’s nice enough fir a cold day scent.
I have a similar story regarding my first experience with Ormonde Jayne after having read about the brand on NST.
I remember visiting their Chelsea boutique (which has since closed), smelling a bunch of stuff and buying Ormonde Woman because even though I did not love it I thought I was supposed to and if only I trained my nose a bit more I would come to see it as the masterpiece that it was (I never did and I ended up parting with my bottle later).
I brought a couple of blotters back to the hotel and one of them perfumed my room so nicely for several days that I had to go back to the boutique for the real thing. That was Ta’if and I’ve loved it since.
I seem to have had a similar thing with OJ’s Woman (seems several people have!) I had a 1ml sample and the gorgeous opening struck me each time so when a friend went to the UK I ordered a bottle. However… sadly…I am never happy through the course of its wear. I find myself agitated after about an hour in it.
Same here. It was never right on me no matter how hard I tried.
I wonder who the longest-continuous commenter is? I don’t see how I could figure it out since all pre-2009 comments now say anonymous.
Happy birthday NST!! Almost twins with Robin, I wore Chêne yesterday. Today I’m in Muscs Kublai Khan, for Stay Away Monday.
“stay away Monday”
Ha ha! Let us know if its effective!
Dabbing it from a sample instead of spraying so it isn’t crazy strong, but I’m not being bothered, so I guess pretty well!
This one could be used in a CP I was suggesting below. Perfume that DOES something other than just give pleasure. I was thinking of ones that help us relax or concentrate but keeping others away is an important objective! 😀
I chuckled quietly to myself at “Stay Away Monday!”
Happy Birthday, NST! Took a shower this morning, after too, too long a time without. Personal hygiene, along with house cleaning, has taken a hit lately.
But now, I am squeaky clean and ready for some perfume! I think I’m going to go with Absolute Aphrodisiac, for its sophisticated vanilla vibes.
If no one else sees our unwashed hair or the dust dragons, do they really even exist?
THIS PART.
And let’s remember that 100 years ago we would have been considered VERY clean to our ancestors! My grandmother bathed her 9 children using a bucket of water each in Central America, and hair was cleaned using a towel!
I probably smelled marvelous this morning, in an 18th century Josephine kinda way…….
Tee hee!
But will Napoleon be dropping by the house? 🙂
I haven’t been paying much attention to either, frankly, and I think I’m better for it.
Not washing my hair every day has reduced the number of split ends I get.
Sweet sixteen – what an accomplishment to have fostered this community for that long!
I’m in Prada’s Mimosa Infusion today, but it’s not signaling Spring quite the way I hoped it might. I will have to look out for Ox scents for the rest of the week.
How is the mimosa in this one?
To me, it smells like all the infusions with some fluffy mimosa that carries through, though faintly, the majority of its wear. I love this line and find this one pleasant but not memorable. My favorite mimosa right now is Dame Mimosa Mixte, which I might dab on when I get home from work to get my mimosa fix!
Happy Anniversay – I just recently read an interview you did, Robin, around your Tenth Anniversary! It confirmed that you really are like an editor of a newspaper, which is a very hard job. I love NST and all the wonderful perfumistas that meet here. SotD is Opus III, oversprayed to where the Mimosa got a little screechy, but things are calming down around hour 5. I am always glad when I get a perfume that CAN be oversprayed 😀
Well in all truth, back then this was much more like a newspaper than it is now, and I did a lot more writing myself. Now it is a way more laid back site and less of a hard job 🙂
Happy birthday NST! I’m so glad this little corner exists, it brings me so much joy an levity.
SOTD is Le Labo Rose 31 over JM Pomegranate Noir (forgot that I’d sprayed it earlier). They go pretty well together, though the vetiver drowns out whatever faint pomegranate I could find. That’s “dependable” for me at least, I can always count on my skin to amplify even the tiniest bit of vetiver.
I am glad!
Happy 16th bday NST!
On the year of my 16th bday as part of my diaspora community’s traditions, I had to attend a debutante ball, wear a white ballgown, and dance a very lurching Viennese Waltz with my escort: an ex-boyfriend with two left feet, but at least with whom the recent breakup had been both mutual and friendly. May NST not experience any such growing pains! ?
I am in Angela Ciampagna Rosarium today, smelling like I just emerged from the root cellar of a Franciscan monastery, and quite pleased with the effect.
HA, indeed, NST has no such tradition!
But while I do not envy your deb ball experience, I do think we need some sort of new tradition to mark that age, somewhere around 15 or 16 or 17.
Happy birthday, NST!!! Now a young adult! I’m catching up with the many years I’ve missed by slowing reading the perfume reviews. I’ve been really enjoying them, and discovering that I share many similar perfume favorites with Robin. And also quickly discovering that Kevin has very discriminating tastes!
I was in the mood for incense this morning, so I’m sampling a couple. Memo Tiger’s Nest on one arm, and YSL Caftan on the other.
Glad you are enjoying the reviews! Maybe one of these days I will write a new one 😉
Happy 16th, NST!
Scent: I started the day with Osmanthus Interdite, but it’s faded. Following a run to Target and a few minutes spent in the snack aisle, I believe figgy Philosykos is up next!
Tea: an Upton Assam.
Reading: Books about plants. It’s become my comfort read, of sorts.
Do tell, what books about plants?
Happy Birthday NST – 16 fabulous years!
The forecast was for rain tonight, but it’s arrived over breakfast. That’s required a rethink of my clothes for the day. Tobacco Vanille will be entirely suitable whatever weather the day brings.
TV is fantastic. You smell wonderful, and now I want to wear some too!
Happy 16th!
1) Super fun find at Marshall’s: Bagetelle de Gabrielle, EDT. It was $30, down from the usual $190 at more high end shops, so I would have lost money not buying it. (is that how perfume math works?) Anyway, a clean, airy herbally/citrus scent, with a powdery aspect, perfect for this transition time of year going into spring. Low-ish sillage now, would project a bit in heat I think. This lasts for a while on me. This will be my SOTD after showering – my workout session was NO JOKE this morning!
2) Speaking of which- if you are doing the Peleton or Les Mills app, DO THE STRETCHES!
hajusuuri, arbiter of all perfumath, would surely approve. 🙂
Oh, I hope so!
I also got Gucci Memoire d’Une Odeur, which is a herbally bitter almond scent. Just lovely, and a bargain at $35.
Oh, I haven’t smelled the Gabrielle, but MdUO is LOVELY – what a wonderful find 🙂
Oh yes- I think I am gonna wear that one tomorrow!
It is 100% perfumath free!
Hurray! 🙂
Nice finds! I haven’t been to my local Marshall’s etc. in a while (not really Covid related, but I’m just not out and about as much). Now I think I’ll have to go check sometime!
This past month it has been a treasure trove: DR Jart body oil & Body cream, Dr. Jart face masks, and a deep conditioning hair mask- all relatively fresh, plus the fragrances!
you’re making me jealous! I doubt our local store has such treasures, but I did see Shalimar/Bulgari Thes/Mugler stuff.
To be honest, I was pleasantly surprised! I have learned that with such things to just buy them and THEN think 24 hours if I still want them!
Bvlgari thes are pretty nice, actually for WFH, really refreshing!
Since the new perfumath free is $100, you still have $35 to spend ?, perhaps a few of the Byredo candles to go with your refreshed space once you lay down the new carpets? ?
Ha!
And yes, there are those Byredo X Ikea candles…I have noticed they are a slow seller ( but they are not well merchandised AT ALL) so I may pick a couple up!
Happy anniversary, NST! So happy to have this perfume community.
I decided to interpret the metal ox theme to wear perfumes that are dependable and that I’ve loyally enjoyed for many years. So I’ll wear perfumes that I’ve had in my collection the longest and were early perfumista discoveries.
Today I chose Serge Lutens Gris Clair, which is metallic lavender steam.
I went with dependable today, too.
Metallic lavender steam sounds heavenly. 🙂
Oh that is a great interpretation! I was looking up flower language for loyalty, hard work, dependability etc but it wasn’t lending itself to perfume so much.
Seconding the great interpretation of dependability and loyalty! I will borrow this interpretation this week, for sure. It’s much better than me trying to think of any scents with metallic notes! Metallic notes don’t sound very appealing to me.
You smell wonderful. I love Gris Clair.
Happy 16th, NST. Robin, do you remember the first perfume you reviewed here?
I am wearing Mistral Patchouli. I think it’s a wonderful oddity and bought a backup bottle when I heard it was discontinued. Now I believe they have brought it back with a new name. I’ll have to smell it when I have a chance and see if it’s the same.
Hugs to Kanuka if she is reading. I am thinking of you.
You smell fantastic. MP is a weird one, it was my gateway to patchouli love (or at least deep admiration).
It was a very poorly done review of an LE Chanel:
https://nstperfume.com/2005/02/08/chanel-une-fleur-de-chanel-fragrance-review/
SotD = Songes
Sometimes winter needs a dose of summer in a bottle. Songes is one of a few unfailing scents that make me breathe deep and smile every time.
Happy B-Day, NST, and thanks for all the fragrant fun.
Feeling seriously lazy so far, it’s a school holiday. I’m listening to/half-watching a video of DhakaBrakha at Glastonbury (fantastic!) while I pootle around the house, pretending to be productive. Perhaps chocolate for lunch will perk me up. 😉
Chocolate for lunch is always good in my book!
two chocolate almond butter cups for lunch
nom nom nom 😉
I regret nothing!
I hope you got that chocolate at lunch! My sister sent me some chocolate covered candied orange slices, they were quite delicious and now long gone 🙂
I DID have chocolate for lunch, and oh goodness, I love those candied oranges! chocolate + orange is delicous 😀
Sending congratulations with heartfelt appreciation for your work on this intelligent site, Robin!
What Celestia said!
Thank you both!
Happy Birthday, NST – thank you Robin for this friendly community!
Thanks also to all of you who chimed in last Friday re. my quandary with the tile lady. I have yet to text her, and appreciate all the input you provided!
SOTD is Sequoia. This week will be stressful, so was last week (I am taking this class that is insane, work load wise), so I felt I needed “tree strength” endurance this morning and am consequently in Sequoia. Fits the theme – surely trees are typically dependable!
I like that interpretation of the theme! Good luck with your classes 🙂
Great interpretation! I hope your week is manageable.
Happy 16th Birthday, NST. Robin, thank you for your nurturing of this space for so many of us!
SOTD = Ormaie Paris Yvonne
https://www.instagram.com/p/CLCy5vvBTC_/?igshid=xkg35lbab46f
From a split decant from last year’s splitmeet! Fruity floral and grounded by patchouli, vanilla, tonka and benzoin. Ormaie Paris is an all natural line, and like many of this type of line, it does not last long (5 hours for 8 sprays). Nevertheless, it’s a very nice, wearable fragrance.
I’m planning to wear perfumes with a red theme, wether it is from the bottle, the juice or the packaging. The Yvonne bottle has a red cap and I am taking credit for it. Also, I could have worn this last week too because it does have grapefruit!
I like a natural perfume during summer, where they seem to perform best. You smell lovely!
Thank you!
I know you have a few red bottles!
You smell lovely, I like the red cap. 🙂
Happy Sweet 16 NST! I finished off a very old sample of Caron Tabac Blond today. I wonder if the current version even smells the same. My collection of samples has gotten out of hand, so I’m working on finishing them up. Some I think I just need to dump all over myself if I’m ever going to make any progress–no more little dabs!
Go big or go home ?
I’m not sure if Caron Tabac Blonde even exists anymore. I’ve heard rumors of it being discontinued.
Ha, good thing I don’t feel the need to buy a bottle then! It’s nice, but I hear the really old vintage is better ;). I’m not into hunting for old versions of things though since there’s so much new stuff available that I haven’t tried either, and that’s easier to get.
That’s what I’ve been doing to finish off samples – dumping ones that are 3/4 or less full right on my arm. I am more cautious with those that are extrait/parfum concentration though.
Dressed in a black-cherry-coloured cashmere sweater and jeans for a -14 day and wearing Lost Cherry. My 94 year old mom is to get her second vaccination today at the nursing home. My cousin called to say that his brother and wife are quarantining because 16 staff people at the bank where she works had tested positive. Apparently the bank posted a sign saying “Closed due to lack of staff”.
Love to hear your Mother is getting the care – Blessings to her. And, back-cherry cashmere sounds fabulous!
Glad that your Mom got her 2nd shot!
And I bet you smell fabulous; I have to try LC very soon. Sounds like a great match to your cashmere!
I want to see your sweater – it sounds gorgeous! Hooray for your mom’s vaccination. Sorry to hear about the bank and everyone who works there..
Congrats on your mom getting her second vaccine dose!
For Robin:
I should have written this over the weekend.
I was startled to run across another Michael Gilbert fan, since I thought he was generally forgotten. (I thought the same thing after I read about the death of Donald Westlake, it turns out there is a large cult of Westlakers out there).
Anyway one of my favorite books is Gilbert’s End Game. I believe the title refers to a Brittish game like Snakes and Ladders, you can never tell who is really rising and falling to the final roll of the dice. This, is of course, what the book is about. It focuses on two couples; (1) A Brittish business man and a London thug;
(2) A young Brittish couple who split up; a careerist woman who seems to rise higher and higher in the businessman’s empire (but who also has a habit of recording her telephone calls) and the guy who starts out working for the business man’s organization until he has a well observed split up with the young woman, and then seems to fall lower and lower into the thug’s clutches.
There is more than rolls of the dice going on here.
Oh good, thank you for the rec. I had never heard of Gilbert until recently, when looking through authors in the British Library Crime series.
Glad to have another book to look for!
Best wishes of the day to NST – a refuge for so many of us! I would try scent NST but of course she would have her own Donatella-worthy wardrobe full of things wonderful and weird as well as simple and lovely and some darn hard workers too.
I’m thinking of going back to studying and so I am thinking about which scents would help me in being determined and diligent. Vetiver might be the number one note here as it makes me feel grounded and energized. And right now I am in some of Dior’s Vetiver: I always think the coffee note will help me concentrate too, but I can’t say I definitely detect it! Nevertheless, it smells good enough wafting at me along with my actual coffee, and it just is an absolutely wonderful scent.
I was wondering about a CP based on fragrance that have a use other than simple pleasure – scents that DO something: make us more energetic, or concentrate better or which pull us out of a dark space… Scent is not an end in itself here but (also) a kind of tool.
What will you be studying!
Hajusuuri, I am wanting to study law – but starting at age 42 I’m not sure how far I will get. I don’t think my memory or my concentration is as good as it once was.
Good luck in your future studies! ???
Thanks Jalapeno – I need to register soon so I’m hoping I don’t get wet feet! 😀
Ooh, yay for continuing education! I’m doing a certificate right now at 39 since my industry has been hard hit by the pandemic, and many friends are doing the same, in a variety of fields. You can do it!
And yes, I highly recommend that you register before you can talk yourself out of it hahaha!
Ha ha! Yes, there is definitely that danger! 😮 😀
Happy 16th NST! Had I known I would have worn Cristalle. As it is I’m wearing MPCPC which I adore.
Cristalle would be perfect! Awfully cold here for Cristalle, though.
You smell great!
Happy 16th Scentiversary, NST! Live long and waft on! ?✨?
Bright and sunny but cold today. Still, it’s much improved over yesterday’s slushy snowfest. I’m keeping a wary eye on the long term forecast, since the Weather Gods seemed to have switched on the snow making equipment this winter.
SOTD = Annick Goutal Ambre Fetiche EdP. Several NSTers have mentioned AG lately, and I figured I’d give my bottle a sniff to see how it’s been faring. I’d forgotten how good Ambre Fetiche is in cold weather. Yowza! So far both it, and Encens Flamboyant are fine. Need to check Nuit Etoilee.
Waft on – that is a very good motto =^v^=
Thank you!
I got a freebie mini of this one! I should wear it as I know we’re in for a snow fest pretty much every few days!
Ambre Fetiche is even better than I remembered it.
I’m keeping an eye on the snow also. I just heard 6-12 inches for me for the weekend. Ugh…
I saw one forecast that had snow in it for Thursday thru Sunday! Thankfully no all the time, but still. I said some “non-appropriate for NST” words at that news.
Edit: “NOT all the time”
Definitely should get new glasses.
Happy Birthday to NST! And a huge thank you to Robin for this lovely community. It’s certainly a haven for me.
I wore Le Dix on this cold day. It’s going to get progressively colder this week so I may have to pull out some heavy hitters as the Arctic blast heads my way. Stay warm everyone! ❄️☃️
Seriously, I may just hole up inside for the rest of the week!
Happy sweet 16 NST! I wish I’d found this site much earlier.
This is embarrassing, but you are the only people who won’t think I’m a lunatic. I couldn’t decide what perfume to wear this morning so I used a random number generator to pick for me. Thanks to the algorithm, my SOTD is You or Someone Like You.
You still may think I’m a lunatic. But I can deal.
If I have my perfumes organized, I would probably use this method too!
Not at all.
I’ve used a random number generator for various tasks before. Mine isn’t as sophisticated as yours: I use dice. As a tabletop RPGer, I have a lot.
My SOTD is First Cut from St Clair Scents. Usually I love it but wafts of it I’ve picked up today have smelled just off and sour, making me wrinkle my nose. I’m not sure if it’s the yuzu or maybe tomato leaf. I’m not a happy camper in it. Almost felt I should apologize for wearing it to physical therapy today. Yesterday’s Musk Deer was way superior.
I took a bag of supplies out to Mom’s place today. They have lovely gardens with vivid orange roses, yellow zinnias, purple pansies, and fuchsia Sweet Williams. I sank my nose into those abundant Sweet Williams and went to heaven!
How is your PT coming along?
Very well, thank you!
Super late!
Happy Birthday to NST! Thank you for being the best place on the internet! NST and the weather is the only thing I check every day, lol.
I’m doing a week of perfumes, that I love, without a doubt. Sotd is L’ombre dans L’eau. I never would have known this perfume without NST.
I’m going to enjoy seeing what your perfume “Loves” are this week! ?
I don’t even have it planned out, so I will be surprised what calls to me each day.
We’re doing very similar interpretations of the theme and I’m also not planning my perfumes ahead. Should be a good week of perfume!
Ah, and you do smell fantastic!
Happy birthday !
Shalimar
Thanks Barqs!
