Estee Lauder Beautiful Magnolia ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 30 January 2021 18 Comments

Estée Lauder will introduce Beautiful Magnolia, a new fragrance for women. Beautiful Magnolia is a flanker to 1985's Beautiful.

The lightning bolt moment you saw each other for the first time. A sensation like no other. The emotional rush of the magnolia, a symbol of loyalty in love, is balanced with crisp herbaceous Maté and the lush transparency of Water Lotus, as fresh as new love itself.

[...] The swirl of contradictory feelings, an explosion of passion, are reflected in the hypnotic nectar-like scent of Magnolia Oil, sensuous and feminine, irresistibly swept away by dazzling notes of Solar Gardenia and deep Turkish Rose.

[...] Smooth, rich Cedarwood, Sandalwood and Illumina Musk add their warmth, power and sensuality to the breathless instant when, fearlessly, finally and forever, you know they’re the one you dare to love.

Estée Lauder Beautiful Magnolia will be available in 100 ml Eau de Parfum, and possibly other sizes as well.

I will try any perfume that is: 1. Estee Lauder, and 2. has Magnolia.

I believe being inclusive is very important and I always strive to be that. But I just can’t handle our language adjustments right now: “you know they’re the one you dare to love.” ‘They’ are the ‘one’? We need a new word or something because for me, ‘they’ is plural and so confusing when it references one person or thing. Pronouns were meant to keep language simpler and clearer.
    Sincerely,
    A crotchety old lady

It’s a fundamental drawback to English that there is no gender neutral singular pronoun. I think grammatically most now accept ‘they’ for singular when the alternative would be the much more clumsy ‘he/she’. Of course it would tobably be better to rephrase to avoid the dilemma but it can be a challenge.

I know – but I would actually prefer that we create a new gender neutral word. It causes no end of confusion at work when we are told to prepare for “them.”

You know I have a feeling I read that that was once tried but never took off!

And yeah, I can see how that would confound everyone ?

So apparently ‘ze’ was once introduced to be gender-neutral and singular. Sounds like it didn’t work though…

I just dug this up to check I wasn’t imagining things ?

Yes, I need us to accept Ze and go with it!

Anyway, don’t mind me. Just a pet peeve.

Ze might make a good name for a scent?

But tell you what – I’ll raise you each time I’ve got stuck writing something up cos I need a gender neutral with each time you have been confounded by the singular use of they!

Together we might have enough passion to start a major campaign for the use of ZE ?

Yay – joining you in the ZE campaign!

English is a lot more gender neutral than most languages, where every noun is gendered and some require a matching gendered form of verb.

Frankly anyone whose emotions go into a tizzy at the scent of magnolia may well be unable to settle on a single person as the “one.” Magnolia, is after all, a lovely but hardly provocative flowering tree.

Since we may eventually run out of nested comments, I just came here to say better “Aze” than “Amen and Awomen” ?.

Whole description is so silly to me that I did not even notice that bit.

My impression is that Ester Lauder comes across to many as a little bit staid these days and so they might be trying to add some raciness? But yeah, I don’t really ‘process’ when I read this type of copy anymore.

Anyone actually smelled this yet? Take away the breathless hype, I understand sort of a bright floral with both sandalwood and cedar underneath, along some sort of musk – type molecule… sounds like it might be a nice summer scent, yes? I like the pink.. :-)
