Happy Hump Day! It's also Chocolate Cake Day, International Holocaust Remembrance Day and Alan Cumming's birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I am feeling a bit better but still not 100%, so I am once again skipping the perfume, but my plan for today had been Angel Muse.
Reminder: on 1/29, wear a fragrance by (Thierry) Mugler, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is Irina Shayk wearing vintage Mugler in 2019, for Glamour Italia, at the time of the Thierry Mugler Couturissime exhibition.
I chose No. 22 from a freebiemeet sample. Very aldehydic.
Beautiful! Vintage or new? EdT or EdP?
Who knows? As I wrote, I got it as a sample from a freebiemeet, and all that the spray sample had on it was a hand written label that said #22.
Hello all, my SOTD is Skin Musk by Parfums de Coeur, something powdery and comforting. I just found out my Uncle passed away, I don’t want anything challenging, something peaceful and easy.
I made a big bowl of cheese grits with butter, serving up a double dose of comfort. There goes all the good behavior, out the window!
I’ve got a couple of meetings today but am off after 3pm until next Wednesday for the move.
I am sorry to hear about your uncle, Smokeytoes. Sending comforting hugs! ?
So sorry to hear about your uncle Smokeytoes. And best of luck with your move.
I’m sorry for your loss, SmokeyToes. My husband’s sister died a couple of days ago, it was expected but still jarring. Meanwhile, cheese grits are one of my favorite comfort foods, especially with butter.
Hugs for you and your husband as well. These are hard times. We’ve lost a number of people this year and not only due to COVID.
Thanks Debby, it’s been like that here as well. We all need to be kind to each other, I’m so glad this friendly corner of the internet is here.
Oh, so sorry! Hope your husband is ok. An expected death is still hard.
My sympathies to you and your husband, ringthing. An expected passing doesn’t make it any easier to cope with, especially now.
Thank you Jalapeño.
Sending you and your husband my condolences. An expected loss isn’t any easier to process. My family has had a few losses this past year so I understand.
Thank you, Gail. I’m sorry for your losses as well.
My condolences, SmokeyToes, you’ve got so much going on.
My condolences to you and your family SmokeyToes.
So sorry to hear of your loss.
Condolences to you, Smokey-Toes – I hope you’ll get some comfort from your coping strategies. It’s a tough time to lose a family member.
I am very sorry for your loss, Smokey Toes.
I’m very sorry for your loss, SmokeyToes.
So sorry to hear of your loss.
So sorry Smokeytoes!
Sending you hugs from across the country.
Big love to you and your family
baci baci baci
So sorry to hear about your loss. Glad you’ve got some good comfort food and scent going, though.
Sincere condolences to you.
I am very sorry to hear of your loss. Sending hugs to you.
Condolences, I hope he had a good life and passed away peacefully
So sorry to read about your Uncle’s passing. May his memory be a blessing.
Sorry to hear about your uncle 🙁 Sending love your way.
So sorry for your family’s loss, SmokeyToes.
Very sorry for your loss, ST. I hope you can have some space after the meetings, and that your move will go well.
My sympathies to both Smokey Toes and Ringthings. These are such hard days, so full of loss and even the ceremonies of bereavement and consolation are limited by restrictions, health concerns and the difficulty of traveling. Sorrowful times indeed. May you both find blessings and strength, without forgetting your loved ones, nonetheless.
Thanks so much, Diana, for your kind words.
Virtual hug coming your way, SmokeyToes.
My condolences and hugs.
I’m so sorry for your loss. Big hugs to you.
Comfort grits IS good behavior as far as I’m concerned. Sorry for your loss, SmokeyToes.
My condolences to you and your family. I agree with Teebear’s comment about grits; the warmth and coziness are sometimes exactly what one needs. The calories can be counted another day.
Sorry for your loss, SmokeyToes.
Very sorry you lost your uncle, Smokey Toes
I am so sorry for your loss. Hugs!
Very sorry for your loss, SmokeyToes. Sending you hugs.
My sincere condolences ST.
My condolences on the passing of your dear uncle, SmokeyToes. Hugs.
So sorry for your loss.
Not the first death I heard about today. ? So many people going through difficult times.
Mugler, Day 3: B*Men, which is fascinating — bright rhubarb and anise up top and then all these sonorous woods. I can’t think of anything quite like it.
Early this morning I put on a drop of Angel just to see, and realized that I no longer like it. I think my tastes have changed, but I suspect Angel did, too: my miniature is about 5 years old and doesn’t match up with my mid-nineties memory of the scent as being sweet and fun — now it seems to be dominated by patchouli in a way that I find aggressive and unpleasant. Maybe it is just me, though.
B*Men is so great! Glad to have a bit.
I remember Angel having a honey sweetness back in the day. I remember reading somewhere that it has gotten sweeter over time but it definitely isn’t as fun these days.
Yes, it definitely was honeyed and sugar-candy sweet in a way that it no longer seems to me. I actually laughed the first time I ever smelled it, because it was completely unlike anything that had ever come before, absolutely new. Now there have been thousands of gourmands, the novelty is gone, and it’s certainly been reformulated: I’m not laughing any more.
I’m pretty disappointed by it now. Though I did get a very very thrifty bottle of the pure parfum on eBay and it’s lovely.
So glad B*Men made it into the CP this week 🙂
SOTD so far is Persian Woods, a vintage avon. It’s a sweet amber with a hint of woodiness. It is very close to the skin.
You smell wonderful! I love Persian Wood – I have the bottle that is a rocking chair with a cat sitting on the back who is the cap! The glass is opaque and I think that might have helped preserve the juice. I checked today and it is not offered on the Avon website. Probably has not been for years. But there are still some of the deluxe special edition Peacock bottles with Charmed. 🙂
Hello all!
Celebrating a somewhat chilly morning (57°F) with a summer favorite, Paprika Brasil. So light but it lasts all day.
For those who want a package update, it’s flying to me as we speak. Not sure if it’ll be delivered today or tomorrow. It was stuck in customs hell for so long….
Stay safe.
Can’t wait! Lol?
Me freakin’ too! It got a further delay today but it’s in my city at least.
Ooooooh….
?
Exciting! ?
Yes, I’m practically itching. I’m not a patient person at all.
I’m wearing Dodo from my new set of Zoologist samples. It has settled down now after 45 minutes but I swear it smelled exactly like cat pee when I first sprayed it on. A scent I know all too well and have plenty of other opportunities to experience, thank you. Don’t think I will re-apply after my shower.
Dodo didn’t work for me either. Musk Deer was my sample choice yesterday – opening was just like Kiehls and drydown like Musc Ravageur, in other words I don’t need it.
Interesting – I got a tiny sample of Dodo once as a freebie/extra and quite liked it! And I definitely do not enjoy the scent of cat pee – I grew up with it. 🙂
HAHA! wow wow
Money saved!
Yikes!
Thanks for reporting – I would so want to love that Dodo bottle!
Oh dear! I also had a “cat pee” scent; it was Lush Comforter. I was surprised since I had a Comforter bubble bar that was great in the bathtub. We were on holidays at the time so I purposely left the bottle behind in the hotel room.
Feeling super tired and sleepy. Not even coffee is helping today. I think the weather and the workload are taking a toll on me.
Wearing Kenzo Jungle L’Elephant. I needed to wear a big scent today to feel energized.
Happy Wednesday, everyone! ?
Oh, you smell wonderful! Need to dig this one out. Hope your energy level picks up.
Thank you, Ringthing! A bunch of marshmallows came to the rescue. The sugar intake helped a lot! ?
Hang in there lady!??
Trying my best, Lillyjo! Counting the hours for the day to be over! ☕
The elephant is too big for me, but it’s a good scent.
Just one spray is more than enough for me. L’Elephant is one of my favorite scents!
If The Elephant can’t come to your rescue, you may need to slip away for a nap! It is so cold and gloomy here today that I have the sleepies too.
Lol! I know! I always have one spray, but today I had two!!! It is helping me greatly, but a nap after work will make a huge difference for sure!
The Elephant will have your back, and prop you up! You smell marvelous.
Thank you! ?
I took an unexpected nap earlier this evening for you. ?
Thank you! ?. I had a two hour nap and I am almost ready to go to bed now. I hope to wake up in better shape tomorrow ?
I may copy you tomorrow. Haven’t worn that one in forever.
I don’t wear it often either. You will smell wonderful tomorrow!
NVC Niral for today. Finally there was some sun peaking through the clouds.
Nice!
I wasn’t here yesterday so I’m sorry to see you’re not feeling well, Robin. I picked Angel Muse today, gosh what a great smelling scent.
We have some cold January sunshine here, yay! Larry the cat and I are basking in it while I procrastinate – so much to do, so little desire to do it.
Procrastination twins! I’ve been off for 3 days and have managed to do about 1 percent of my list.
You smell great! Hopefully I will copy you tomorrow.
Wore Epic this morning and trying to resist the candle sale at Bath and Body Works. Currently in no 22 edt and getting ready to leave for work.
You smell wonderful! Just remember, that there is always another sale!
Scent: Yves Rocher Fleur d’Oranger. Enjoyable, but it stays close.
Tea: Target’s Good & Gather black tea. I’m not home (at MIL’s house, where I’m supposed to be clearing out the hoard), and bagged tea was just easier.
Current activity: poking around the interwebs, building a samples cart at luckyscent and giggling about the order total amounts. I’m currently in the $45 range. I read Kevin’s article about buying samples, and he’s not wrong… However, it’s been a few days of gloomy and cloudy, some freezing rain, some snow showers, and resistance is low.
That’s how I felt about Kevin’s article too. He’s not wrong. Now let me see what new discovery sets Luckyscent has…? I agree w/ what Hajusuuri commented that so long as I rehome and giveaway the samples for others to enjoy it’s all ok. ehaehhe That is a high-level interpretation w/ my own filter but still….one must sniff to separate the wheat from the chaff.?
Absolutely spot on interpretation!
You guys just made me laugh!
So the only thing worse than a bunch of samples you do not like is receiving a bunch you do like!
Which is not MY problem anymore ?
Be careful what you wish for. I just received several samples that led to instant love and now the hard decisions must be made?
THIS!!!
Pffffffffft. It’s all about what you’re looking for in your scented journey. Do you like the thrill of discovery? Smelling new things? Learning about yourself and the perfume landscape? Then money spent on samples is well spent, even if you end up enjoying only a small fraction.
On the other hand, if all you’re specifically looking for is perfumes you will enjoy and wear a lot, then sure, maybe samples aren’t the best way to spend limited funds.
Me? I’m in the first camp.
Plus, there is the simple and pure joy of receiving samples in the mail. I have smelled some really wonderful fragrances, all new to me, in the last 2 months.
Ah yes, it feels like I’m getting a present 🙂
I think I used to be in the first camp, and after years & years of perfumistahood I have joined Kevin (actually, I beat him to it…when he was writing the article he asked how many samples I bought in 2020, and the answer is 4). After a long time of doing this, and already knowing at least a decent % of the landscape, smelling so much crap becomes discouraging! At the moment, I enjoy perfume more by just enjoying my collection.
On the other hand, even sitting out these 12-18 months, I’ve totally lost any idea of the landscape. It would be hard to write a knowledgeable review now…if I ever did 😉
Aww, now: don’t ask how I know, but your reviews have lauched [some number] of happy blind buys!!!
🙂
Aww, haha. Well, I don’t really get samples unless NSTers are raving about them, so I don’t end up with so much crap 🙂 And besides, I’ve only been so into perfume for five or six years, so it’ll take me a while to get too bored of it (I hope).
Oh, it was over 10 years before I reached this state!
I’m still in the first camp along with Koyel, but the number of samples I have purchased has gone down dramatically in the last 2 years. Sometimes I sample to get an idea of what a vintage perfume smells like, since a couple of decant sites sell vintage.
Annick Goutal Nuit Etoilee and cup of peppermint tea.
joining you with the peppermint tea!
cheers !
How is Nuit Etoilee?
It is one of my favorites, so I am biased. I think it is wonderful. Love the mint, pine and citrus!
Seattle Chocolate by Olympic Orchids, after I did the California Chocolate on Monday. It’s similar to me, but without the orange, leaving only the incense and chocolate…let’s see how it develops.
Lots of people without power here, kids both on remote school standby (first period teachers were without power, it seems), and I better get all online homework done in case ours goes out, too! Fireplace is stacked and ready, just in case.
forgot to add: Thanks for all the validations yesterday re. my failure (with, ironically, intelligence test scoring….). It was very nice to read that!
HA, knowing the topic makes the story even better!
Good luck with the electricity.
I have a sample of California Chocolate and enjoyed it…don’t think I need more but nicely done…and glad you are prepared w/ wood!
Is this because of all the wind?? (I had a hard time falling asleep last night because of the wind, but when I walked around the house in the morning, nothing looked like it had suffered because of it, thankfully.)
Yes, the wind – still going strong here, but our little suburban yard is so enclosed on all sides it usually stays somewhat calm. But school didn’t really happen today for the kids.
Good morning – Inspired by Kevin, Oakland Fresca and hajusuuri, I am using up a sample of Chypre Shot – 8 spray minimum.
?. I have a sample but have not tried it yet! What do you think?
I like it – it’s a spicy Chypre to my nose and not terribly long lasting but then again, nothing really is on me, except Carnal Flower or course.
I do not have any Thierry Mugler perfumes so days of Annick Goutal.
This morning I got probably the best phone call in 2021, from the florist (!!!) they got a shipment of the beautiful mimosa flowers and I went there so fast! Nothing moves me quit like those yellow pompoms! My apartment smells like the Mediterranean.
Speaking of pompoms, SOTD Tenue de Soirée.
I smell good. My home smells good! Life is good today!
Off to do my Italian lesson, ciao a tutti (tutte)
I don’t think I have tried Tenue de Soiree but I believe it has vanilla. How do you like? How forward is the vanilla? 😉
And life is indeed beautiful.
I don’t get any vanilla
Just Iris and fruits, it’s beautiful
Here is Robins view https://nstperfume.com/2017/01/19/annick-goutal-tenue-de-soiree-perfume-review/
Lovely! Imagining how beautiful your home must smell.
It’s smells like the Mediterranean
So this is a good place to comment about an incredible Mimosa perfume that no one is talking about because….2020. What could possibly lure Jean-Claude Ellena out of retirement to produce 4 fragrances for a niche house you probably never heard of? I will tell you. A generous budget for materials and the freedom to do what he wanted. Perris Monte Carlo Mimosa Tanneron is a photo realistic mimosa experience of smelling the mimosa bloom in Tanneron. Salty breeze, mimosa blossoms, pollen and all. He got the yellow and fuzzy in that bottle, simply ingenious. He also did a lavender(not the usual take), a really solid jasmine and a rose. You can order samples of all of them from Indigo Perfumery, not affiliated. Enjoy your mimosa!
Whaaat
Don’t look. Don’t do it…..don’t, oh, too late. 🙂
That sounds wonderful!
That is like “10 points to House Slytherin” style enabling! I love it!
I am a Hufflepuff, I assure you.?
??
Wha? I had samples of that line once, came along with something, and I didn’t even try them because they just looked like another disappointing “fake niche”. Good to know I was wrong!
I have only tried 3 created by JC Ellena. Who knows what the rest of the line is like? You may not have been wrong……
That particular scent sent me downt he rabbit hole years ago so you have my full and complete attention!
I must try this one.
Oh my gosh, I love that photo!
I have a doctor’s appointment later, so I’m wearing a little bit of Aura lotion on my shins. I checked out the Mugler bogo sale, but everything I maybe wanted was already out of stock. Money saved!
Glad you are almost better Robin. Keep resting.
I have a mini Aura lotion I haven’t broken into yet, how is it?
Oh it is very nice. A little goes a long way scent wise. It’s not tacky, and sinks right in, on my skin.
I have Aura body cream and really enjoyed it! It’s very perfumed, and even has a whisper of Chanel No. 19.
Google “mugler cowgirl” if you want to see more! I frankly missed a lot of his fashion; wasn’t paying attention at the time.
Yay for money saved! How was your doctor’s appointment?
I’m wearing Clinique Happy Cocoa & Cashmere today. Felt like something chocolatey. I’m doing a year long project of wearing a different perfume every day, so I’m dipping into the back of the closet more than usual. (I’m documenting on IG – same username – if you want to see if I can do it?). I definitely have enough options….
My husband loves Happy and I do not but, THIS sounds more my style.
I’ll have to do some research to learn more. Never heard of this iteration!
Happy Cocoa and Cashmere is nothing at all like Happy. I liked it, but not enough for the cure little travel spray I saw at the time.
I am enjoying your Instagram enormously!
I enjoy your IG photos, nice project.
SOTD is TF Tobacco Vanille. I love it, one of my all time favs. My house is scented by pork and orange juice in the crockpot, for pulled pork sandwiches later tonight and apple cider quick bread in the oven! An overload of warm yummy scents all around me.
Today’s image! I think Alan would approve for his birthday, but I’m not so sure what my Jewish grandmother would say? ?
Probably “she could eat something”.
Mmm I think teebear made pulled pork yesterday…I am keeping track! Sounds delicious.
I DID do pulled pork yesterday! I’ll have to try OJ in the pot à la Kelly Red next time, usually I do a bottle/can of lager.
Save me a sandwich!
My house is scented by pot roast with red wine & mushrooms in the slow cooker, though, so I won’t starve if you eat all the pork 🙂
All this talk of cooking could make a person really hungry!
SOTD: Encens Divin (on repeat, and not sorry)
The week is flying over here and yet I feel like I’m hardly getting anything accomplished!
Something I’ve added to my week recently is going out for lunch once a week and out for coffee once a week. I’m finding it helps to get out during the day, something I did back in the spring more but got away from. Although I prefer WFH, the sameness of each day and not seeing and experiencing new things does wear on me.
I have gotten nothing done, so I join you! I did read 2 whole mysteries over the past 3 days, but NADA on the chore list.
Well you have a good excuse being sick!
But I, like you, can easily spend hours in mystery books.
I have limited Mugler options, and none has felt right yet this week, so I’m in Rogue Tuberose and Moss.
I’m worn out (again!), but the sun is shining. Wishing health and comfort to those who are struggling right now.
Have a sample of that I need to revisit. What do you think?
It’s one of my favorites from the line, though I do wish I didn’t have to press my wrist to my nose to enjoy it. My samples are roll-ons, so maybe when sprayed it has more presence? It starts out as a creamy, sweetish tuberose, but I really smell the oak moss later, which gives it a vintage feel.
I would have worn Mr. Cumming’s eponymous fragrance for his birthday, but last night it rained here like there were 1000 open fire hydrants aimed right at the house, and today everything is sparkling and every robin within a mile is singing its heart out, so Apres l’Ondee was just entirely necessary for this morning.
Thank you, everyone, for so many hugs and kind words yesterday! I’m so grateful for this community. <3
You smell divine and I am glad you are feeling better.
You smell wonderful! I love it when all our robins decide to try to outdo each other.
Weighing in on two blind buys from Fragonard today…Vanille and Magnolia. Wore Vanille yesterday but never gave thoughts and trying Magnolia today.
Vanille – Top note is Jasmine; middle notes are Vanilla, Almond and Tiare Flower; base notes are Vanilla, Caramel and Musk. A very sweet, floral vanilla good for spring or summer. Would probably layer well w/ something w/ more spice and depth too.
Magnolia – Top notes are Lemon, Calamus and Vine; middle notes are Magnolia, Frangipani and Tea Rose; base notes are White Amber, Musk and Sandalwood. Powdery, citrus floral. Refreshing and nicely done. Also probably well suited for spring and summer.
Thanks for reporting back!?
Yes, thanks for this! I’ve eyed up that Magnolia for the beautiful bottle. I am borderline bonkers for magnolia trees.
When I read the name Fragonard I think of the painter first. And I see flashes of pink dresses, white lap dogs, pearls and wigs ?
I am not that familiar with the perfume house ?
Robin, I hope you get back to 100% soon!
Yay, Alan Cumming! He has a fun Instagram feed.
No scent today yet — had an early meeting and am still in PJs, but need to go change that now. Maybe a Tauer…I pulled out the minis trying to get to something underneath and have been wearing those this week. Yesterday I thunked Les Annees 25 Bis…or rather, it thunked itself through evaporation, which I hadn’t realized. The earlier two minis I have (Les Annees 25 and Attar) seem fine on that front. I used up the very last drops of Bis I could get out of the bottle, so that one’s done. My kid liked it when I went to pick her up at school, so I guess that’s one vote for it but I think I prefer Les Annees 25, which is good as I can’t buy a FB of that.
All this talk of evaporation with Tauer minis has really gotten me worried! I just bought a mini of PHI not long ago, I guess this is incentive to wear it consistently.
Thanks for the tip on Cumming’s Instagram feed. He does seem like such a fun guy!
Working on it, thanks!
Thanks everyone for your advice yesterday re how I should spend my gift certificate from Lucky Scent – Lira or Love and Crime. I really don’t know which I would buy if there weren’t a price differential, I like them both but I think maybe Lira is ahead by a nose. Today I am wearing Grace by Comme des Garcons. It is really more of a summery scent, but maybe I can trick myself into thinking warm thoughts.
Never hurts to try!
It’s 1F outside. One degree. Just the one! For no reason at all, we’re looking seriously at moving down to the lower 48 this year.
SOTD is Chyprissime but I’m regretting not choosing something warmer.
Get well soon Robin!!
Just so you know, I am always impressed with team AK and your winters! And sometimes even in the Midwest, Florida looks really tempting…..
If it makes me seem tough and impressive, I can stick it out a little longer!! haha
Right!!!
It was -40F in MI a few years ago for a day. I didn’t think such cold was possible but there you go
???
Single digit temps. Bletch. Don’t miss those one bit!
Com’on: don’t you want that I am in a down coat with multiple layers under and only a sliver of my face exposed feeling??
Never owned a down coat, so maybe that was part of the problem? ?
Beautiful weather here today, as Coumarin said. I’m in vintage Diorling edt, from a sample I had to reconstitute. This is beautiful. ❤️
Jealous of your weather *and* your Diorling!
Miracle of miracles, we made it thru last night’s rainstorm without a power outage. Whaaaat? Well there’s more rain to come for the rest of the week so stay tuned.
Alan Cumming! I had planned to wear A*Men Pure Coffee today but now I am wavering, should I pick 2nd Cumming instead??
I was sure you were gonna be out of power. Miraculous! The streets around our house are covered in branches and other detritus, but so far it looks like the neighborhood withstood the onslaught. One of our tall, outdoor heaters shot across our deck but hit the side of the house, not a window (we then brought the two we have inside (!!) –the airborne one now has a crushed top).
It’s a new day.
Boy, that sounds dramatic, but I’m glad the damage wasn’t worse. I had a lot of strong wind here in the south bay last night too. Seems calmer today, thankfully.
Same miracle here, but watch — one too many bluebirds will land on a powerline and take it out now that the sun is playing peek-a-boo with the leftover clouds!
It’s back to pouring buckets here again. I sure hope they don’t get mudslides in the evacuation zones.
Bucketing here too, now. But the wind is just heavy, not biblical like last night.
Cosying up with Air de Rien. Got my covid test result back and now I am in quarantine. Two other coworkers are also tested positive and have fever and feel really sick. One of them seems too have one of the new mutations, so no wonder we got it so easily. Luckily I just have some chills and sore limbs, hope it stays this way.
Good side is, that I have more time to knit and sew.
I am hoping your symptoms remain mild, tannina. I’m so sorry you are sick.
I’m so sorry you caught it, tannina. Hopefully your symptoms will pass very soon.
I’m very sorry to hear this. I hope your symptoms do not get worse.
I hope you will get off lightly – and then be immune from now on!! You smell wonderful. L’air de rein was one of my 2020 shutdown love it finds.
I am so sorry Tannina. Sending healing vibes. Hope you recover soon!
Wow, sorry to hear news of your testing positive! Fingers crossed that you have a mild case. Do take care!
Rest, and recover.
Oh, I’m so sorry — sending hopes for a mild case, a quick recovery, and some peace of mind in the coming months to know you’re not likely to catch it again!
Take good care of yourself and enjoy that knitting.
I hope your symptoms stay mild and wish you a speedy recovery!
Oh no; wishing you a speedy and complete recovery! The new variant is alarming.
Replying to myself but asking tannina: what are you knitting?
Oh dear, sorry you got sick ☹️ hope the symptoms stay mild and that those close to you manage to dodge it!
So sorry about your results but hope your quarantine goes by without a fuss.
Hope it stays that way, too. Take care of yourself!
Meditating for health and healing for you, tannina.
Thinking of you tannina…really hope you have a mild case.
Oh no 🙁 I hope you get better soon!
Oh no. So sorry to hear this, but I’m hoping that your symptoms continue to be mild, and are soon gone.
Sending out good thoughts into the universe. I hope you are able to recover quickly.
Take care! I’m glad your symptoms are mild.
I hope you heal quickly and easily! I’ll join you in knitting. ?
Very late to the party – but am sending sympathy and best wishes!
It snowed a tiny bit at my house yesterday, mostly crunchy stuff that melted quickly. There’s more rain on the way later and I am wearing Organza Indecence this morning. There was an epic failure in the kitchen last night involving a faulty thermometer, so I have to wash everything–floors, counters, walls, cabinets–of the fine oil mist that settled everywhere.
Yikes! Hope for your sake it’s not an enormous kitchen.
Egad. Reminds me of one of our family legends involving my grandmother, a pressure-cooker, and a whole lot of green beans. Apparently Mom and Grandma were still finding green beans in the backs of cabinets years later. 😀
😀
Ha ha! Reminds me of spotting a long-dry bit of cake batter on the kitchen ceiling one day when I was a kid and asking about it, and my dad just rolling his eyes and saying, “Your *mother*….”
You have my sympathy. We had a can of a dessert stout explode in our kitchen a while back. I am still finding little brown sticky spots in the oddest places.
Yikes.? Mr. Jalapeno once gutted an extremely large striped bass in the kitchen… it looked like the set of a horror movie after he was done.
Ouch! My husband once put a pot of eggs on to boil and then fell asleep…
Robin, I am glad you’re feeling better. Had I been doing the regular Mugler line, Angel Muse would be in the line-up!
SOTD = Mugler Les Exceptions Hot Cologne
Repeat after me – citrus, citrus, citrus and lightly spicy citrus. Very nice and ?❣️
https://www.instagram.com/p/CKjqCeNBEEy/?igshid=wkwfu1q1cjuv
So I mentioned yesterday that I don’t recall what Mugler Cologne smells like and Nancyleandros kindly offered to send me some (raincheck). According to Fragrantica, Hot Cologne smells like Mugler Cologne at x times the price. ??♀️
I rolled out of bed this morning a minute before a 7:30 meeting. A quick swipe of the hair brush and a cashmere sweater over pajama top (it was a v-neck T-shirt) and I was ready! All I can say is thank God only the speakers were visible. Ha!
I have been sporting the cashmere sweater over pjs look for many weeks now…..it works for me.
Ha! It helps that my sleep shirts all somehow look okay with orange, yellow or green ?
I hate those last-minute jolts into consciousness! So jarring.
It had been quite a while since I last wore Vol de Nuit, having been distracted by many beautiful newcomers, so that’s my SOTD. Man, it’s glorious!
You smell so elegant.
My choice for today is Neroli Outrenoir from Guerlain – a reminder of overseas travel that will happen again one day.
Amen to that! I usually take any contract I can get that lets me escape Canadian winter… It’s feeling looooong.
Scent twins! I also ordered a decant of this today. So good.
I chose to wear Nirmala, Angel’s ancestor which is quite a bit fruitier.
SotD for CP: Oriental Express. It has a better scent bubble and is more lasting than yesterday’s Supra Floral. I like it a lot, but it is reminding me of something else I have, and I have not placed it yet.
I smell warm and snuggly today in Oriental Express, another from the Les Exceptions line. This one has been discontinued and replaced with Oriental Extreme, it looks like. It’s powdery, balsamic, amber goodness. I think it’s similar to Felanilla and is definitely a Shalimar descendent without the prominent citrus.
Hi Twin! Yes – very like Felanilla. And you explained why I’m enjoying it so much: powdery, balsamic…. But I am picking up on some kind of relation to L’Air de Rien???
Yes, I can see some similarity to L’air de Rien in the dry down. L’air de Rien is one of my top 5 perfumes!
I only have 3 Muglers- one a cologne which I’m not in the mood to wear this week. I’m saving the other two for tomorrow and Friday.
Yesterday was in 10CC and today in LADDM. I’ve been smelling great this week!
Thanks so much for all the birthday and anniversary well wishes on Monday. You all are so great! My husband was supposed to go back out of town for work on Monday but due to the weather he got to stay until yesterday. Yay! Now he won’t be home until next Thursday (boo!). Trying to focus on the positives and not feel isolated due to COVID without him home.
Plan to join you in LADDM…excellent choice!
Robin, glad to hear you’re a little better. Hopefully you’ll be 100% and scented before Mugler week comes to an end!
I’m still have not picked a SOTD. I’m sampling a dab of Rose Prick on my hand. Being a rose fan, I was curious about this one, despite my general ambivalence about Tom Ford. So far, it’s not bad. But not terribly original and definitely not worth the price for me. The pink bottle doesn’t do much for me!
Same here but some love it!
I also found it pleasant but unremarkable.
No Mugler’s in my collection so I am enjoying some Tauer love with LADDM.
In a very strange confluence of events, I once shared chocolate cake with Alan Cumming!! Although, not on a Wednesday…..
I’m wearing Ineke Jaipur Chai today, which is lovely. It’s quite like Jacomo Art Collection No. 08, but perhaps not quite as warm, despite being heavier on the clove. It strikes me as being more sophisticated than No. 08. Ultimately, though, I think I prefer No. 08’s more milky and warm nature.
Robin, good to hear you are feeling somewhat better.
This morning i wore Osmanthe Yunnan or should I name it Gone in 60 seconds? ?
I love it but geesz its fleeting.
I usually dont mind short longevity (3 or 4 hours is okay). But this was a skin scent after half an hour.
I think this scent probably works best in summer…and when you have a whole tub of it so you can bathe in this stuff ? (maybe then the scent will stay with you for a while? ?
Also, i dont think you can buy this for a reasonable price anymore (?). Its not being offered in the Hermes online store in the 4 x 15.ml set. ?
I already paid a hefty price for a 4 ml sample (but i read good things about it, i really wanted to try it)
Those 15ml come and go, promise! They are never in stock all at once.
I’m very lucky in that OY sticks around for 4-6 hours on me. No sillage but I can smell it on my shirt the next day.
Good to know! Thank you.?
The travel set is a good option.
I once tried to buy it in the Hermes store in Antwerp, but the ones I wanted were out of stock ?
…and then i spent my money on a discounted Zadig&Voltaire dress a few doors away haha ?
Oh hells bells. I tested another Bogue that is making me ill. I scrubbed and scrubbed, but am still getting little whiffs. WHAT is going on with that house? I was thinking about Bogue MEM and whether I wanted to order a decent-sized decant, so I ordered one of those tiny dauber samples from Luckyscent, and then just went ahead and ordered a few more from Bogue. MEM is an interesting and fragrant take on lavender–period. But a couple of weeks ago I had a hideous experience with Bogue’s Douleur. And today? I Love YY, which looks innocuous enough on paper (the notes that is) but has completely turned my stomach.
Anyone out there have a theory about Bogue?
Sorry for that experience.
I only tried MEM and MAAI and O/E.
I adore MAAI ❤️, and I like MEM a lot.
But O/E was a miss. It turned sour on my skin.
I have no theory as to why you had such bad experiences. But maybe (and this is a very amateurish guess?) because Bogue scents are quite bold I suspect that when some elements turn wrong on one’s skin, it dominates the whole experience.
Like…when a loud instrument in an orchestra plays off key the symphony gets ruined? ?
Well this hardly makes any sense because I know nothing about chemistry. ?
I love Bogue MEM is my jam!
Me too. But am having “nope” to “aayeahhhaahh gross horror gasp” responses to others by Bogue.
How do other Bogues strike you?
I have tried two other by Antonio Goldoni and one worked ->Maai and one did not -> Berceuse!
He had an amazing ylang out as a special release that I couldn’t afford even a sample of.
Honestly I find him brilliant!
He already grabs my interest,
and there’s TRex lest we forget by zoologist.
I am forbidden to wear MAAI in the house by a man who has never complained about any of the odd fragrances I may wear. I just had a very small sample…..
LOL!
MAAI was among my little daubers. It wasn’t a haunted house, but definitely was not a place I would choose to visit very often.
Bogue really doesn’t work for me. Waaayyyyyyy too much animalics for this animalic-phobe.
Yeah. Their use of notes of ambergris, civet, castoreum, AND hyraceum might put you off. . . 😉 (Whew!)
Bogue is just too weird for me. After the traumatic experience with Douleur I’ve sworn them off. I smelled Maai, Mem and YY, none of them were good on me.
In Angel today (my first day this week with CP participation), which is my only Mugler. Like Pyramus, it’s not what I remember it being. In my case it just seems…light and close to the skin. Maybe I didn’t spray enough. Or maybe my ongoing courtship with Aromatics Elixir has fundamentally recalibrated my perception of “big” fragrances.
In a spot of good news, my father-in-law (age 96.5) got his first vaccine shot yesterday! We are so relieved. All seems well so far.
Angel has had a lot of her strength and oddness tamed by the intervening years of strong and odd perfumes. Happy to hear about your father-in-law’s vaccine!
Is your Angel a sample, or a bottle?
Sample — I did think that could be part of the problem. I had a FB back in the day, when Angel was still new and edgy. Left it in a hotel room — an incident that was not remotely saucy in reality but sounds like it was. 🙂 I cannot see myself purchasing another FB but the sample really is surprisingly bland.
That would make sense. I would not call any Angel version I have in the bottle “bland”.

Yay on the vaccination!
Back to my Amouage samples, Opus II today which I’m enjoying a lot. It’s herbal and dry and wonderful.
In Lancôme Santal Kardamon today.
It’s very sloshy outside after snowing last night, and I chose to walk 4km home from training this afternoon. Get this – on my walk, a jerkface van driver veered into the outside lane on one street to spray me with street slush! (There was no sensible reason to swerve into that lane otherwise, much less moving at that speed).
Joke’s on them though, I was only two blocks from home by then, so my jeans and coat were in the washing machine not 7 minutes later and I was warm and dry on the sofa eating a pulled pork sandwich.
I was mad as fire til I got home, and then very quickly realized “if my karma is being made wet and dirty for just a few minutes… you know what, it could be worse.”
You smell good of course and glad you were able to recover from this person’s senseless action!
Karma is a bitch so the van driver better watch out on his next senseless act.
Agreed on karma! It’s the best!
Ugh, some people. SMH.
Lancôme Santal Kardamon? Sniffs. What’s it like?
VERY cardamom opening, a little boozy and orange blossomy, and a wallop of DRY fragrant sandalwood and woods (not the “creamy” kind of sandalwood that skews kind of wet/tropical IMO) with dry vanilla and birch. More boozy than sweet.
If you like very milky sandalwood, this one will smell medicinal and disappointing.
If you think those milky sandalwoods à la Santal 33 go a little too into fermenting coconut milk territory, you will love this one.
I was a little disappointed by the Jasmin Marzipan one, or whatever it was called. But I give this line credit for very enticing notes and pretty bottles. (And I love the scent of cardamom and probably overuse in coffee, oatmeal, whatever!) I look forward to finding a place to spend some time sampling them in TRW!
Wearing Womanity Taste of Fragrance, which opens with chutney and then fig and salt. It is really very well done and savory rather than sweet. I received this in a trade on this very site during one of the swap meets. I do not remember what I traded away but I have no regrets.
That sounds good too! “opens with chutney and then fig and salt”
Hellllllloooo people! What insanity we are experiencing !
Been busy and miss this group!
I am in Mandarine & Cardamom to stay chill but need Breath of God by dinner time.
My pick for tomorrow would be a free speech sample inspired name.
I will ponder that one.
Nothing that resembles a ‘bluebird’ that is for sure if you catch my drift….. this is an auspicious time to say the least.
It’s been a cold, quiet day for me. One of my knees is very displeased by the current weather, and has been letting me know about it all day. On the plus side, I got my travel spray of Paracelsus today. I wonder what samples have been tucked in with it?
SOTD = Mugler Les Exceptions Supra Floral, from the sample stash. I was inspired to wear it after some NSTers mentioned it yesterday. Today there is something in Supra Floral that reminds me of Kenzo Flower, of all things. ??
Put on 2 drops of Youth Dew bath oil as my sotd. I needed something a bit closer to the body as the Mugler Alien Cuir from yesterday was almost overpowering; I could still smell it this morning!
Some of the TM perfumes easily have 24-hour duration on me. Definitely a scented commitment!
