It's Blue Monday and Martin Luther King Day. Birthdays: AA Milne, Philippe Starck. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Starck Paris Peau de Pierre.
Reminder: 1/22 will be Fairy Tale Friday. Name a favorite fairy tale or fable, and wear a perfume that fits your choice. Suggested by therabbitsflower. (Wikipedia has a decent list of fairy tales if you need some inspiration; plus see the entry for fables.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
In Parle Moi de Parfum Orris Tattoo.
On my first cup of coffee and finally ready to take all the Christmas decoration down ?.
Nice and sunny outside, so I will take a walk in the afternoon.
Happy Monday, everyone! ?
I’m stubbornly refusing to take down my tree. ? It’s gold and so pretty I can’t bear to undo it yet.
If the tree brings you joy, keep it up ?. Mine is not that fresh and pretty anymore, but I enjoyed it the most I could ?.
Yes, the sadness of real trees.
Turn it into a Mardi Gras tree, just add some green and purple bows and it will be perfect!
You’re not wrong! ? I might take the ornaments off and leave it here.
If I had a fake tree, it would still be up. I did leave up string lights on the windowsills.
Yay! String light forever!
Lovely! I feel guilty having a big plastic tree so I plan on using it forever. It may not come down till my next move to be honest.
Why do you feel guilty? (and I think that’s the thing to do at the moment. Many years we are the last in our neighborhood to throw out the tree. This year, we kept ours up about the same time as always, and we were first.)
I have a white artificial tree that has white lights that I am leaving up.Most of the decorations are snowflakes and stars that represent winter vs the holidays.I love the warm, bright light it gives out.
Perfect!
I like Orris Tattoo. You smell nice.
Thank you! ?
I love Orris Tattoo. Someone mentioned Philosykos smells the same and I could not for the life of me smell the resemblance other than the air of airiness part.
Orris Tattoo and Philosykos are totally different perfumes. I don’t smell the resemblance at all!
I don’t get that either. Orris Tattoo does remind me a bit of Bulgari au Thé Bleu though.
You smell great!
Thank you!
You are smelling fantastic! Enjoy your sunshine today!
Thank you, Gail! The day was very pleasant!
Sounds like your weather wasn’t quite as crazy as mine was!
It was a cold, but very sunny day here. No rain in the forecast for this week. Let’s see!
Hello all!
Got up woefully early (for me) for work. One of my co-workers is out so it’s going to be a long week.
I’m in Samsara EdT today, vintage of course. I spent yesterday cleaning and organizing my perfume collection; I only made it two-thirds through to be honest. I’ll try to finish today as I should be getting a Very Special package this week.
Stay safe everyone!
You are such a tease!
You’ll be the first to know, I promise. ?
Ooh, that sounds like a nice package!
It is. My breath is held!
Ooo. Excited to hear about this package. It must be Very Special indeed if it requires advance perfume reorganization!
My wallet has been giving me stink eye for a month!
very special package? what’s in it?
I’m keeping mum until it’s in my hands. ?
You smell great!
And yes, also curious about the package ?
Keep y’all posted. ?
Also curious about the Very Special package!!! 🙂
Soon!
This is going to be quite the reveal, isn’t it?
Nothing too rare, just extravagant. ?
You could leave the tree up a while yet and no one would say anything, I’m sure, especially if it is gold and beautiful and makes you happy. We’re is the middle of winter and need something to brighten our days. I have a dark green and red plaid wreath that stays up in my living room all year long. It’s high up on the wall, hard to take down and then put up again every year, plus I like it , so it just stays where I have it.
It’s also Winnie the Pooh day today.
My friend gave birth to a baby boy last night.
I’m in MFK Oud Silk Mood on this -12°C day. Brr… ??
Congratulations to your friend! I like Oud Silk Mood! Maybe I need to get mine out to wear today too. Stay warm!
It’s at least a bit of a warm perfume for such chilly weather
Congratulations to your friend ?!
So cold!!!! Stay warm!
Thanks
Congrats to you and your friend! Is it traditional for a baby to have godparents?
Yes, it’s quite a common practise here that every baby has godparents.
Congratulations to your friend!
I was thinking about Tigger for some reason this morning. I must have sensed it was Winnie the Pooh day.
Ha funny! When I asked my friend about the boy’s name she said Christopher! Just like the Pooh’s friend from the book. Total coincidence!
Such exciting news ? And so nice to be born on Winnie the Pooh day!
Happy news! Congrats and best wishes to baby and family. I love the name Christopher.
Winnie the Pooh! A childhood favorite. I have old copies of the original stories that I read from time to time
Congratulations to your friend! Hope that you all are staying warm!
Woke up in no 22 edt today and now in no 5 EDP. Was thinking of no 19 but it’s too cold out for it. Heading into work soon and hoping it won’t be a long, hard shift.
Fingers crossed for you Dawn!
Inspired by lillyjo and madtowngirls’s ambroxan talk over the weekend. I grabbed my bottle of Escentric 2 today. It’s been a while since I last wore it, but wow, I really love it. I’ve used up about 70 ml of a 100 ml bottle since 2014. I may try to make a further dent in it this year because I’d be very upset if it went off and smelled like hot meat.
Have a great day! We have sunshine, so I feel very lucky.
That is impressive…there are not many bottles that I’ve drained that much of.
It was the first bottle I bought when I got back into perfume in 2014, and until 2016 I only owned three bottles.
Then… my collection exploded. ?
That makes sense! I did drain my very early bottles pretty quickly.
Day off. Slept and slept. Been too sad, mad about current events to post.
Cleaned house from top to bottom yesterday so I feel mentally organized.
We have planned power outages for entire neighborhood tomorrow so work will be interesting to say the least.
SOTD will be rose 31. Love it so much might get the body lotion.
My new obsession is actually for hair. Oribe silver is not a purple shampoo. It’s silvery, rich and makes my hair shiny silver. Purple was keeping it a bit darker. It’s expensive but the bottle will last a few months.
Oribe products smell so good.
I admire your mental organization.
thanks sistine – it won’t last!
Hope you feel bette soon. I will check out this shampoo for my own newly silver locks.
You are lucky to be sleeping, I just lie awake and worry. 🙁
Need to try that Oribe silver.
Yay for your hair obsession! I have sampled some of their line and they do smell great.
Oooh, I must check this shampoo out!
I know what you mean about current events. I used to live and study in Capital Hill. The Mall was my local park and the Capital Dome dominated my walks to and from school, grocery shopping and my metro stop. It was like having a beautiful mountain in my back yard, inspiring me and giving me a sense of location and home. So last week, I lost some joy of youthful memories.
This week, I have seen the militarization of this area. If I was in my old haunts today, I could not sit on the Capital steps to watch the twilight. I could not find serenity sitting in front of my favorite paintings at the Smithsonian. I could not catch the subway, since my old metro stop is now closed. I don’t even think I could walk from school to my one block neighborhood.
I had purple shampoo that was keeping my hair darker. I might have to try this out – do you do both the shampoo/conditioner?
Ooh, I love regular Oribe. Must try this one!
Aromatics Elixir today. Still on public transportation, hope to get my car back tomorrow.
You smell wonderful (and interesting). I would not be bold enough to wear AE on public transportation! Good luck with the car.
I was going to say the same!
At least the bus or subway you are on smells good and probably long after you leave..
With all this mask wearing I don’t care if I stink up the train. And others keep their distance
I love that you are wearing AE on public transportation! You smell great!
You smell amazing, and the bus smells amazing as well!
You’re making public transit smell better!
SOTD is Kelly Caleche edp. Very happy that it’s above freezing, very abnormal for January where I am.
Tested a couple of the newer Alien flankers over the weekend. I’ve always been a fan of the line, but the last couple…are not it.
Alien Mirage is an aquatic version…not sure who smelled Alien and thought “this is great but I wish it were a mineral-aquatic”, but Fragrantica does not have the perfumer listed. I would not be surprised if they requested not to be listed there, because it was a scrubber and they knew it. (from Utah tester)
Alien Fusion I actually liked, but because it’s so close to the original to me that I can’t see the point in both of them existing. It has a spicy cinnamon-ginger top note added and then it’s basically just Alien…I’ll test them side by side one of these days to know for sure. Decent but redundant. (from carded spray sample)
I think I noticed the same thing about Alien Fusion when I sniffed it in the Before Times.
Slept in Wazamba and this morning am on to Fete Persanes.
A rare early post for me! We had crab last night and still have half left over for tonight. I also got some sushi grade salmon so that will be lunch.
Ooh, I love both those scents!
I think I must wear Wazamba soon
Fetes Persanes – you smell fabulous.
The Les Indémodables sample set arrived last week.
30 euro including shipping for 8 x 3,5 ml samples is not a bad offer imo.
This morning I tried Musc des Sables on one arm and Iris perle on the other.
They are both soft. Well balanced.
Big like so far for this brand!
I took a shower around lunchtime (after a 1-hour-run) but i can still detect some traces.
Oh right we were doing fairytales?!!!
I love fairy tales ?
lets try this…
Well,
Iris Perle is the fairy godmother in Cinderella. Mimosa, Ylang-Ylang, Orris.
Uplifting and cheerful. But also mature and experienced. Just like the fairy godmother.
Oh! Uplifting AND sophisticated sounds like a good combo! Who would Musc Des Sables be?
? that one is harder…. Its very comforting. I will let you know when I can think of a fairy tale.
I love this line too!
Agree, it’s a well done line. Not a poser niche house to roll one’s eyes at…if one does that sort of thing.?
?
Glad to see another Les Indemodables fan. The ones you’re wearing today are two of my top favorites. But I really like all of them.
I’m curious to read your impressions further.
Scrambling to get ready for yoga, quick spritz of Sushi Imperial.
For some reason I didn’t love this when I first smelled it. I think the name made me think of something salty and then the scent was discordant with that? More recently I found the sample and sniffed and yuuuum! ?
It’s a citrus with a patchouli drydown on me. Very dry, good for warm weather.
Somehow “scrambling to get ready for yoga” sounds like an oxymoron.
I am a procrastinator… typically rolling out the mat and getting dressed five minutes before the class starts. 😉
hahhhahahh
?
I’m wearing Histoires de Parfums 1969′ from a sample. This is worth a decant.
You smell great!
I had a travel bottle of 1969 a few years back, and dropped it and smashed it onto a tile floor at work ? I felt like that was the universe telling me to accept that patchouli is hit-or-miss on my own skin and to just enjoy it on others, but I do still miss that one!
Mortifying!!
Silver lining – no one else was in the room! Tho I’m sure whoever walked in there next must have had their head spinning from the fumes for a second ?
That peach & chocolate combo in this perfume is so luscious!
That one is terrific!
Angélique Noire from the sample I scored st year end. An intriguing scent…unusual and lovely. I’m terrible at identifying notes, so don’t ask. I just get general feelings and impressions usually. (Green, cozy, floral, sharp, metallic, etc.) It seems fleeting on me, and I wasn’t shy in my spraying.
I found it fleeting too..
The vanilla in this one is very nice!
A favorite
It’s a green vanilla to my nose, not totally dissimilar in feel to Mugler Aura. It lasts forever on me.
I couldn’t really make up my mind today, so I am wearing Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt primarily, with small squirts of Quelques Fleur on my left upper arm and small squirts of Prada La Femme on my upper right arm. Lots of fragrance going on here !!
wow..you smell heavenly!
Sometimes the nose is hard to satisfy ?
Perles de Mousse, because someone mentioned Ciel d’Opale over the weekend. I think it fits the CP – it could be somewhere in the pretty green princess category, like Maleficent before her horns were taken away.
That was me – Perles de Mousse is marvelous, too! I loved the perfume names in this trio.
today my youngest aka chubby buddha is 5
Feels like yesterday I was telling you I had given birth again (my two are basically Irish twins 13.5 months apart)
I am in JM Basil Neroli and Mimosa Cardamon
Pizza for lunch and then cake..today is a carb day.
Happy birthday to your son!!
Aww happy birthday to your little one!
Happy birthday! ??
Happy birthday to chubby buddha! Where does the time go? When you wrote “my youngest…is 5” I thought “how can that be?” wasn’t she just giving birth to her first who is older? ehaeheh time/space continuum problems in my mind.?
Aw sounds like your little one is going to have fun with that menu! Pizza + cake were standard birthday fare when I was growing up ?
For a moment I thought you had a mimosa cardamom pizza for lunch! Happy birthday to the Buddha!
Happy birthday to chubby budda! I live for carbs.
Happy Birthday to the Buddha! Enjoy that pizza.
Five! That time has passed quickly.
Happy birthday chubby buddha!?
Happy birthday to chubby buddha!
Happy Birthday to your chubby buddha! Enjoy “all the carbs”.
Happy Birthday and Many happy returns to Chubby Buddha.
Happy Birthday to chubby Buddha!
My sisters and I are all about that far apart…hard when we were younger but nice now 🙂
Happy B Day to the (not so) Little Buddha! And you smell terrific!
Happy birthday from me as well!
wow, ltsg! that went so fast! happy birthday! my sis and I are 17 months – Irish twins and we wouldn’t want it any other way.
Happy birthday to Chubby Buddha! ?
Happy Birthday wishes to your Chubby Buddha! ???
5? How could that be?!? ? Happy Birthday to chubby buddha!
Happy MLD day!
Not in any perfume yet. The few decants I brought with me are almost all gone. That makes me happy since thunking is the prelude to buying ?
Will probably finish up the Angelique Noir tonight
How much longer are you in Texas for?
Alas only until the end of the month. I’m definitely not looking forward at all to returning to the freezing cold dreariness of MI ??
Well, enjoy the next couple of weeks! If it’s any consolation, I think this winter has been (knock on wood) relatively mild as far as Arctic temps go but yes, still dreary.?
Sshhh…!! We’re not suppose to notice.
Sampling Vanille from DSH today…kind of a soapy, floral vanilla to my nose. So far I am 0 for 4 w/ the vanilla discovery set but I shall persevere. I have seen many positive comments for this house here but not moved by any of the vanillas thus far.
Ordered some candles and body sprays from B&BW yesterday as they have $10 off candles, buy 3 get 3 on body stuff and I had a couple rewards to use before they expire (no affiliation). Many of the new spring scents are gourmands…Strawberry Pound Cake (not new…think it came out last year but I haven’t sniffed it), Chocolate Covered Cherry and Raspberry Jam Donut. ????
I wore Strawberry Pound Cake to bed last night, yum! Goes well with my Kyse Sérénade aux Fraises. 🙂 That chocolate covered cherry sounds tempting.
I just ordered some new stuff from Kyse. When you want sweet and gourmand, Terri’s got you covered. My favorite of her line is probably Oui Plus!, followed closely by Douceur Brûlée.
I love her Bonbons à la Vanille and Frollino Lavande, looking forward to the new Macarons and the nutella one. 🙂
Now I am hungry ? and you were not even talking about food…
mmmm Donuts… Its been ages since I had one….
Now I want a donut, too!
I’m in JHaG Musc Invisible and matching it to The Emperors New Clothes.?
We got a dusting of snow overnight and I was awoken at 3:47 this morning to the sound of one of my neighbors shoveling. Of course I never got back to sleep. This might be a long day?just thankful I am no longer working 12 hour shifts!
Shoveling? At 3:47 am? I hope they leave for work super early. If not, you live next door to a lunatic.
Lol, one of my neighbors across the street is a real early bird, although to me that’s still the middle of the night.
Clever match.
Thanks, I thought it was pretty good.?
Ha nice pairing. And what an odd neighbor to be shoveling snow at that hour!
Thanks. I could tell they were trying to be quiet, but it still woke me up.
Thank goodness your neighbor doesn’t use a snowblower!
Ha!?No kidding! Although I think my city had a noise ordinance that loud machines like that can’t be run before 7.
Perfect pairing! ?
Thanks AnnE!?
Up a bit earlier than usual, we had to deal with a cat issue. One of the cats knocked down a long trailing plant from above the window. I had wondered how long that might take, I’d done it myself a couple of times, but this was more dramatic.
The pot, small and plastic fortunately, hit me on the head!! There was potting mix in my hair, in the bed, all over everything on the bedside table – aargh!
I need something fortifying, so it’s Mitsouko today.
Oh no! Glad you are ok! Kitty must have got a fright too?
Woops! Hope you’re ok. I was waiting for “and when that happened, the other kitty woke up, sprung from sleeping position, snagged the plant in its paws and left a trail of potting soil…”
Ack! Not a nice wake-up.
Yikes! That is not a great way to start the day.
Ooooof! Are you all right? Time to move that plant!
Ahh, the best kind of Monday – the kind in which I have the day off work! After sleeping in a little, I’ve so far been settled into my reading chair with a fun mystery, The Death of Mrs. Westaway by Ruth Ware, which I’m hoping to finish today. My only plans are to grab some lunch from one of my favorite healthy restaurants (a smashed chickpea sandwich with loads of veggies and flavor), take a walk, and maybe watch the movie Selma if I find time for a movie.
SOTDs so far are Dryad on one arm and Scent Trunk x Maya Njie November 2020 on the other. The Maya Njie perfume is focused around treemoss, and when I first wore it I found it similar to Dryad. Comparing them now, there are significant differences. Dryad wears close to the skin and is very base note heavy. You do get floral undertones throughout and a touch of brightness upon first spray, but it’s a dense perfume to me. All about oakmoss, costus, and galbanum. The Maya Njie starts off with fascinating woody note (birch?) with violet and orris over the moss. It has a lot more sillage than Dryad. However, it quickly displays its animalic aspect, which comes across as more rough and tumble than Dryad and frankly reminds me of unwashed skin. But interestingly, I am now getting more brightness and radiance from Dryad where I thought it had already settled into dark, mottled earth. I think I had some nose fatigue going on after I deeply inhaled the Maya Njie multiple times. I think I can clearly state my preference for Dryad. But I will still probably keep and wear my travel spray of the Maya Njie. This is the first perfume I’ve smelled of hers and I’m looking forward to trying her line.
I liked that novel. And your plans for the day sound perfect
Wow! You went all out with your comparison. The Maya Njie scents have a certain base that I couldn’t quite put my fingers on yet. Dirty, although not in an unwashed skin like I find for Francesca Bianchi (although, it’s more unwashed after a sweaty tumble).
And I prefer the FB base because I enjoy the animalic sensuality of the base she uses. But I’ll still definitely seek out Maya Njie samples soon.
Smashed chickpea sandwiches are yummy. I’ve made a few; they’re super simple and you can add just about anything to the mix with good results.
Those Maja Njie perfumes are getting some buzz here.
I love this CP so my first scent today was Iris Nuit (on wrists) which is the ultimate fairy scent! It is as ethereal as fairy wings but unfortunately tickles my nose. Murphy’s law that I am a bit allergic to one of the most enchanting perfumes (maybe the most enchanting) in my collection ?
So…while sitting at my desk I rubbed on my upper arm a tiny bit of Lush’s Karma… which got followed later by a bit more of Lush’s Ginger, which later I’m the day was compounded with Etro’s Patchouli. Iris Nuit had long since vanished and the Patchouli and ginger were playing marvellously together when –
I decided to spray Geranium Bourbon on top. And this, believe it or not, made the whole thing SING!
This left me with a fairytale problem as I mostly associate fairies with violet notes (couldn’t say why). The ginger, Patchouli and geranium combined for something aromatic, earthy and sweet. I would say maybe the dwarves in Snow White as it’s over all a very earthy, energising and welcoming smell!
Love your link to a fairytale
You should wear 2 more scents this evening…..
7 scents for 7 dwarves. ?
You know…I probably will 😀
So… the Ginger, Patchouli and Geranium Bourbon made the 7 dwarves.
But before bed Iv ended up in Imithi by Rose en Bos (South African perfumer). This is much more femme…and bewitching: a green woody vanilla – aromatic. We are still in the woods but this is Lothlorien and it’s Cate Blanchette as Galadriel in particular. So, absolutely exquisite but there is something ambiguous about her. She is with the fellowship but we see flashbacks of her being tempted by the dark side and it’s clear her vast power could go either way….
And a lemming has been born! Imithi even sounds like an Elvish name. Am swooning now just imagining it. 🙂 You must smell marvelous!
Happy Monday all – hit the snooze button seven times! I gave up and decided to sleep until the caffeine headache hits. 😀
My SOTD is the beautiful Sublime by Patou, many thanks to Cazaubon for this lovely perfume. Smokey loves it also, he’s been in my lap for the past two hours. He’s wafting a cloud of powder. Sublime is exactly that – a sophisticated and complex floral green-chypre with a classic French vibe.
I have a pot of chili on the stove – the recipe is Vegetarian Chili (with sour cream and Fritos) from Bon Appetit. I’m using up canned goods and beans from the pantry and submerged a few chicken breasts so they absorb the chili flavor. I’ll make chicken enchiladas with a green sauce later this week. I have to watch the heat, Mr. SmokeyToes tolerates mild spice. I like it when my eyeballs are schvitzing.
We swung by the new apartment yesterday, cable and internet is getting set up tomorrow, and I’m making a list of furniture we’ll have to purchase. Getting closer!! WOOOOOTT!
My little neighborhood owl visited us last night, we heard them outside of our bedroom window. We’ll have new wildlife in our area, but I’m a huge fan of raptors, haws, falcons, and owls. We’ll miss them.
Buying furniture is my favorite thing 🙂
When is your actual move? (and apologies if you’ve already said and I forgot)
We can move in any time, the movers come on 1/28/21. I’ll take a few boxes at a time to make things a little easier… 🙂
Oh, that is really soon. Nice that you can start moving stuff in early, I always have tons of stuff I don’t want the movers to touch.
Yes, it is! We can’t wait… The perfume and SmokeyToes are at the top of my ‘do not touch’ list!
Is that a current Sublime? I know the vintage was supposed to actually be sublime, but I am always nervous about buying heritages since the reformulations can be so different.
It’s a vintage version, it’s just as I remember the vintage being. It’s absolutely gorgeous.
I don’t know what the juice in the square bottle smells like….
Chicken enchiladas in green sauce sounds delicious! Enjoy!
SmokeyToes, that was such a beautiful description of Sublime! I had a bottle, tired of it and gave it away. A big regret now! Ah, but it was early days and I wasn’t wise to the vagaries of perfume love relationships, lol!
Chiming in with my sotd, Shalimar PI.
Happy Monday Gail!
Hello all!
I am testing my 8th sample from the Les Indemodables line, Chypre Azural, which opens up with the most wonderful, realistic, vivid orange peel note which lasts and lasts…Their list of ingredients has Sicilian Tarocco orange oil at 10% and boy, does it show.
I am really impressed with this line and although I like some more than others, I would wear all of them happily. The only (minor) quibble
I have is their longevity on skin (I get about 3-4 hours) but for the enjoyment I get and because they are different enough from everything else in my collection I’m willing to overlook that.
Talk about stepping back from the edge, please tell me it’s crazy to want to buy FBs of all of them! ? Especially since I still have some mls left in those samples. Best $50 I spent this month.
How nice! But yes it’s probably crazy? What size(s) do they sell?
It’s downright crazy. I need to take a few deep breaths ?
They only come in 50 mL bottles and they are not cheap…
I would make a list in order of your preference, wait until you’ve drained every sample and then reorder the list if necessary, then buy the first on the list, then wait and see.
They’re all 50mls except for the two colognes, which are 100mls.
Chypre Azural was one of my favorites in the line. That juicy orange note is spot on. And I actually found that one a bit longer lasting and with more sillage than many of the other Les Indemodables, which surprised me. It also reminded me of Azemour les Oranges with a juicier orange and dialed back oakmoss.
Scent: started the day with Goutal Eau de Camille. I should probably try to use this more frequently, because it’s going off. I’m really craving green florals this winter. Once Camille wandered off, I stepped away from the green floral craving and sprayed on some Lemon Island.
Yep…bunch of the Goutals are use ’em or lose ’em.
I love eau de Camille, but yes, Goutals are definitely use ’em or lose ’em.
Better give my bottles of Nuit Etoilee, Ambre Fetiche and Encens Flamboyant a sniff soon and see how they are faring.
Monday!
1) Music: Happy Birthday by Stevie Wonder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KibW1FBhQlU
2) SOTD: Brazilian Lime Tea and Fig Leaves by Beauty Pie
3) Usually on MLK Day I do a Day of Service, usually with Habitat for Humanity or a project with Urban League/Prosper Portland. That is not happening this year.
Instead, I am redoing the fence that blew down. I have a emergency ‘oh crap’ fund for the house, so instead going through insurance, I just went and bought supplies. The local rock & roll contractor *just* happened to be back from East Oregon, bringing a newbie from Mississippi, and they were in need f work. So they are not only doing the downed fence, but also the back fence and taking out the English ivy, and will later reuse the boards to build new and improved garden boxes.
mmmm, lime is one of my favorite perfume notes 🙂
SotD = Songes
Feeling sunny and warm today with the power of perfume. 🙂
The past 10 days have been packed full. Every day feels like a race to the finish line — my pajamas and my pillow! I miss perfume talk and friends.
Last week I alternated between wearing Jour d’Hermes (for the Pantone yellow) and E&J Nirvana French Grey (for that other Pantone color). It was fun to put perfume choices on autopilot for a while.
The Nirvana scents are so interesting to me. I think someday they’ll be gone and a dedicated following will be chasing vintage bottles like other classics. Many, many thank you’s to the fabulous fragrance friend who shared their bottle of French Grey with me.
Hope everyone has a marvelously scented Monday. It’s gonna be another busy week. Now off! I! go!
I can’t believe the Nirvana line got discontinued. I’m still mad about it, I loved every one but White!
I feel the same way! They are all so good, though White is my least favorite of the bunch. 😉
I’m glad I grabbed a bottle of Nirvana Rose when I did.
super! that’s a beautiful scent 🙂
My goodness, the list of Irish fairy tales goes on and on and ON, doesn’t it. SOTD is Feu Secret, which I think is a good accompaniment to most fairy tales. ?♂️ ? ?♂️
Ha, good call.
Project Sample continues with Baccarat Rouge 540. More suitable for a Bond film than a fairy tale, I would say.
🙂
BR 540 is a great match for a Bond femme fatale!
Tuberose Durga for me today, I envision a tiny little fairy Samantha in a Djinn costume for this fairy flower, for some reason, a Bewitching sort of scent. Adorable hubby usually ignores this one, but today he was, “Wowow, strong! Pretty but strong!!!” early on, I told him it would mellow and now he doesn’t notice it, although it is lingering nicely on my wrists and sweater…enjoying the brief descriptions of other scents – gonna have to try Iris Perle, for sure, and the new Delina flanker, just for the bottle…
Song of the Day: https://youtu.be/FYH8DsU2WCk
It’s a chilly one here! Had a little bit of almost everything: sun, wind, clouds, and rain. There even could have been a stray snowflake in there somewhere, but I sure didn’t see THAT.
SOTD = back in HdP 1740 EdP, from the sample stash.
You better get to that Olympic Orchids and soon ?!
Olympic Orchids? (insert puzzled look here)
Soivohle, that’s what I meant. Obviously, I have not explored this line ?
You are wearing samples quite often which is very laudable, I should start doing that too.
Thanks for the music!
What crazy weather you’ve had today!
I’m trying to thunk a few more samples this year, but it takes me forever to do so!
I’m in the minority but I still like this version better
https://youtu.be/aJZTfl3DmCU
I usually hear the version that you posted, and it’s the one I am familiar with. I figured I’d go waaaaaay back in the Wayback Machine for the link.
SOTD = Scents of Wood Sandalwood in Oak
I got it late last week, along with a matching candle. It’s woody sandalwood with some vanilla. ?
https://www.instagram.com/p/CKMwGBgBdRs/?igshid=c4aridim1sxv
By the way, there are (were) 500 more subscriptions available. It was so popular they ran out in November and now there are 500 more being made to be shipped in April. It’s good stuff.
And, as we know, it was a foregone conclusion that I would be getting the green gold owl incense burner. It is very sturdy and is made of iron. The head comes off and you put the incense inside the body. The owl also came with a little plaque (don’t know what it says), a plastic tray (wish it was made of tempered wood) and instructions in Japanese. I joked that I should learn Japanese to know what to do ?. One of the ears looks like it got damaged but that is not the case – it’s how the mold was cast.

Congratulations on your purchase, it looks adorable and user-friendly I hope.
It looks very user friendly – I just hope I am not missing out on caution ⚠️!
Does the smoke come out of the eyes??
It does – and the owl looks angry enough to give new meaning to “if looks could kill…”
Nice. I am (more) tempted.
I love that owl!
He is very regal looking and I am sure he’s my heaviest owl to date.
That owl incense burner looks a little angry. ??
He does!
Spent the day quite happily in Cacharel Noa, neglected but as cuddly as ever.
Definitely a good time to bring out and use cuddly scents!
I’m nearly off to bed. Had a very busy day with IT problems and a lot of worden.
SOTD was Dia Man. Sample of that one is gone. I liked it well enough. I wonder when I will het get fed up with these Amouages. The mens ones seem far more forgettable than the womens.
Worden is words
But worden does sound more exhausting 😉
Sleep well austenfan!
Ha, ha! Worden does sound more exhausting.
Good night Austenfan!
Worden sounds like a plural that we use for ‘box’ in my house… boxen. Apparently, it’s a computer programmer thing.
Rest well!
Actually ‘worden’ means ‘become’.
The plural of the Dutch word for ‘word’ (=woord) is ‘woorden’. Like in German a lot of the plurals are done by adding -en at the end of a noun.
Started the day in the comfort that is Olympic Orchids Hamsa and then squirted some ridiculously overpriced Strangelove FallIntoStars on my arm which has an alarming amount of ISO E Super. Which is fine if it smells good to you. I will be scrubbing as soon as I am done with this post.
Argh.. That’s one I won’t be trying then! Why do super expensive fumes from exclusive niche wannabes have such liking for the material? Sadly it spoils the party for me.
The other four are really good and lostinflowers is simply gorgeous, an opulent floral based on oud but jasmine and gardenia instead of the rose one typically finds with oud.
I have the oils which I haven’t tried as yet. I heard the oils are better overall but who knows?
Sotd is And the World is Yours.
My daughter was showing me a female music video by some newish artist, and all I could think was thank God Chrissy Hynde, Joan Jett, Ann and Nancy Wilson were allowed to play music and didn’t have to dance to crap to have their careers.
Amen. Plus, those ladies are still rocking!? We recently watched a YouTube of Chrissy playing an acoustic set during the pandemic. She’s almost 70, that is so cool!
She’s so cool! I just love her.
Ah, generation gap – I’m with you on the dancing.
Is there a lot of cumin in your sotd?
I don’t smell any cumin, but I know some people do. It’s really unique, I like it alot. Coumarin compared it to Alien, but I don’t get that either.
Don’t forget Joan Baez in your list! She didn’t dance to crap (or take it) either.
There were a ton of people I wanted to list. Christine Mcvie, Stevie, Melissa Etheridge. I couldn’t imagine them performing in such a way that really takes everything away from the music! Imo, of course ??
Bonnie Raitt! Aretha Franklin!
I’m late again. Today I was looking for Oud Satin Moods but couldn’t find it, inspired by Lucasi. I’ll find it for tomorrow. Instead I found HdP Tubereuse 2 and happily wore that. Had a little jewelry splurge today! Whee! A very nice aquamarine ring! And last night, influenced by very bad people on the weekend poll, I ordered a lot of four Heretic Danone’s, including Scandalwood. It’s all your fault!
A lot of Heretic samples. Geeze Louise. I’m gonna turn off autocorrect’
SJP Covet for me today! No particular reason, just that I bought it within the last few weeks and have been enjoying it. I also enjoyed some online MLK Day celebrations.
