It's Almost-Friday, World Logic Day and Ratification Day. Birthdays: Nina Ricci, John Dos Passos, Clarence Carter, Julian Bond, T Bone Burnett. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Balenciaga Paris, which strikes me as a reasonable match with Ultimate Gray.
Reminder: on 1/15, wear a fragrance to match Ultimate Gray and/or Illuminating, Pantone's colors of the year for 2021.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Puppy and Kitten Market Shopper ("Front puppy and kitten print recalling cyber cute-culture") in soft calfskin is $2250 at Balenciaga, if you can still find one (it is sold out online).
Good morning Y’all!
Doing the cozy snuggly tonka bean thing in Yves Rocher So Elixir. I need to wear this much more often! I’m working my way thru a box of forgotten samples that I dug out of my closet. It’s like a treasure chest in there! 🙂
I always forget about my Yves Rocher fragrances, but they are really very good. You smell great!
You smell AMAZING!
I’m in Pomegranate Noir from a sample. I have very little experience with Jo Malone, except for some samples that I received through a freebiemeet. I like this one enough that I think I would like to try a decant.
House twins.
Tell me more about your SOTD
I loved and wore Pom Noir by JM for years. It’s a lovely winter fragrance. I consider it a transparent, more wearable incense/patchouli/pom scent than most.
If you love Pomegranate in a scent, Remedy NorthWest has a fantastic Pomegranate Noir oil, and they scent body products like shower gel, soap, and body spray.
It may be a scent that is being discontinued from the lineup, and it’s 50% off.
I have the A, D, & E body cream, it’s fantastic.
I really like PM. One of my fav of the line.
JM Basil Neroli
After sampling the 4 I had, I like this one the best. But I still need to try orange blossom and the others mentioned.
Tea is Nocturne Oriental by MF
Thrift store find dress is a floral navy blue dress and tights.
I actually love Basil & Neroli. I bought a 30ml bottle a few years ago. It’s one of those perfumes that inexplicably makes me happy when I wear it. I’ll take that anytime I can find it!
My neighbor gave me the last few ml sprays of her bottle that’s how I ended up with this one. You are right, its does invoke a feeling of happiness. I feel like the lasting power is good for cologne. What do you think?
I agree. The lasting power of B&N is surprisingly good. It definitely helped in my decision to buy a bottle.
Do you layer it with anything or just on its own
Ran out of nested comments – I just wear it on its own. I’m not really into layering perfumes.
I love JM’s Orange Blossom, how does the Basil & Neroli compare?
Hmm, I haven’t tried orange blossom yet . I must sample
Nice and sunny day! Feeling in the Spring mood today, so I chose JM Red Roses as my sotd.
Now back to my home/work desk.
Happy Thursday! ?
Gloomy here so I am jealous! Enjoy your sunny Thursday pl67.
Thank you, Robin. I just came back from a walk and it is pretty warm outside. Back to rain and gloomy days tomorrow.
house twins
The weather is nice today…
Jo Malone girls today! Yay!
What other rose scents do you like? I’m looking for something similar for a friend along the same lines of Jo Malone, light, fresh, dewy, stemmy rose scent.
I gifted her with Roger & Gallet’s Rose soaps, she loves those also.
I am a big fan of the Perfumer’s Workshop Tea Rose, even though perfumistas don’t wear it much. I also like Pacifica Persian Rose, Ormonde Jayne Ta’if, Les Parfums de Rosine Un Zest de Rose, Hermes Rose Ikebana.
My problem with Tea Rose is how BEEG it is. There’s no dose that feels “light!”
I agree with OJ Ta’if, and several of the Rosine scents might be a good fit, although I don’t own any of them. I sampled A LOT of them early on, and they all have that lighter, sweeter version of rose at the heart of them.
On me one spray of Tea Rose on my neck is enough. I really love it! I agree that Rosine has many great rose perfumes. La Rose de Rosine is also a light beautiful scent. I have owned few decants and they were all very enjoyable!
Thank you for the recommendations P67!!
Another one that comes to mind also is Annick Goutal Rose Splendide.
My favourite despite it being mainstream and low cost is the original Paul Smith Rose. It’s more vibrant than Lancolm’s Mille et une and less prim (and dated) than tea rose. I like JM’s Red Rose but the Paul Smith is actually more refreshing and uplifting due – I think – to the green tea. I bought it near the beginning of my perfume journey and bought a 30ml as I was sure I would grow out of it. Anyway – it’s one of the very few cases in which I regret not buying a big bottle. (I mean it’s inexpensive – I’m just resistant to re-buying ?)
Seconding the Pacifica Persian Rose. Valentino used to make a rose perfume called Rockin’ Rose, which was not rock and roll at all (maybe Top 40, though) but a dewy, fresh rose that was rather pretty.
I like and own Hiram Green Lustre. It’s a bright tea rose but not too much and has also frankincense that is subtle but noticeable. I also have that problem where a green rose can be too screechy and rub me the wrong way- not with this one.
Joining you with partial sunshine ?
Yay! We are expecting rain tomorrow, but for now let’s enjoy the day. It is almost 50 degrees here now. No complaints! ?
Looks like the rain timeline for me has moved up to tomorrow night instead of Saturday. ☔?
Same here. Rain from tomorrow night until Saturday morning, then a super windy Sunday.
Robin that bag is straight up adorable!
Continuing the narcissus sample train in Masque Milano Romanza today. It still smells like sexy grape + narcissus to me, the nose works in mysterious ways!
“sexy grape”
Love this!
I’m imagining a grape version of the sexy, green M&M. 😀
Fruit of the loom!!
Ok, I’ve gotta wear Romanza soon because I want to smell sexy grape in it!
It is adorable and should be made of vegan leather and cost $25 🙂
Ooh, I’d snap it up if it was!
Exactly!
Yes!
Green Spell!
I may have requested a sample of this with my recent LuckyScent order for the ? ?.
What do you think of it?
Oooh, you got the owl! How could you not?!
I’m looking forward to seeing it on Instagram.
I will feature it for sure. I just got an email today that my package is on its way.
I can NOT wait to hear. Intriguing.
Hi honey! ?♀️ Ooh, congrats on the adorable owl!
Green Spell elicited a spontaneous delighted smile from me on first whiff – always a good sign! It’s very green, sharp and bracing but not too bitter. The tomato leaf, galbanum, and violet leaf are the dominant notes on me. Could be fbw for me, but I will have to employ the hajusuuri method to fully assess – the longevity and development petered out pretty quickly after my dinky three sample spritzes.
Did you buy a LARGE sample?
It sounds like I would love it! I asked for a wee sample!
Hope so!
You’re back to perfume! Yeehaw!
Gotta seize every opportunity!
?
Quick pop in…off to my sandwich-making gig. Shalimar Eau de Cologne, which is a lovely yellow in my scent color fantasy…
I want that tote.
You snell lovely
sMell
I’m in Chanel Allure Edition Blanche for a little perfume sunshine and Pantone Illuminating.
I am just not into my job right now but off to my living room desk anyway. Yoga after I catch up on email.
And I want that adorable tote bag, too!
Me too!
For me this week, that Prada sweater
Yoga day 13, woo hoo!??
Yay!
Joining you in yoga in a few minutes! WOOT!
Felt so good. I do the Adriene daily yoga and then add on another. Later today I’ll get a walk in – no rain today, thank heavens (literally!).
I’m wearing Earth Mother and just smelling fabulous for a 5 google meetings day. Why are teacher work days always filled with meetings?
Oh well, I smell great.
You do smell great! Hope your meetings go quickly!
same cashmere sweater as yesterday with one additional spray of le lion
Love your consistency ? We are twins in Le Lion and cashmere sweaters.
hehehehe
One spray lasts all day.
Do you see what I did there?!? anyway, you smell great!
Yum!!
I love Balenciaga Paris. So does my mom so l gave her my bottle – need another one someday.
I’m in Aedes Grenadille D’Afrique today.
I found my second bottle of B. Paris, after draining the first, at one of the discounter sites. I’m guessing it can be found at a good deal still.
2250 for a bag?!?omg, who buys these things? Lol
LL Santal 33 on one wrist and Maison Louis Marie no. 04 Bois de Balincourt on the other. These get a lot of comparisons and I can see why. They are very similar. The MLM is “quieter” than the LL, but I get more floral undertones from the LL. I’ve been on a sandalwood kick lately. My girls downvoted the LL, but I don’t care, I like it anyway.
In other news, my parents made it to sunny Florida yesterday. Yay! I’m always happy when they (meaning my 76 year old dad who does all the driving) are off the road. They are on the list to get their vaccines there. Double yay!?
I love LL Santa 33, and Rose 31. I’d say those are my top two from the line. And they are fantastic in perfume oil form.
LL Iris 39 is also wonderful, but one has to love patchouli scents.
Ooh, I love LL Iris and it never dawned on me that it’s a patchouli scent. I’ll have to dig out my sample to resniff! I enjoy patchouli, so that would make a lot of sense. Thanks for mentioning it.
Yes, let me know what you think!
Interesting that it has patchouli, I had no idea. I’ve tried about half of the line but not Iris yet…eventually I would like to try them all. I do like patchouli in some scents, coromandel is a love, but I didn’t really care for diptyque tempo. So I guess it’s a hit or miss note for me.
LL Labdanum is my favorite of the line so far.
Iris 39 took a while to grow on me. Then one day it just ‘clicked’.
(Halfway) House twins in Le Labo 🙂
Of those two I prefer the LL! I had to check to see if I had even tested Bois de Belincourt…my note just says “fine”.
Hey house twin!?
I vote for the LL because the other one has too long of a name. I already forgot what it’s called ?
Glad your parents made it safely!
Lol, you crack me up.? Sephora has a travel spray set of the MLM that I may get just because it’s so cheap.
Triple yay for parent safety and vaccine AND smelling good!
Thanks!?
You can have it shipped to Oregon so there’s no sales tax.
The bag? Still way out of my price range. I probably wouldn’t even pay what my states sales tax would be for that bag (123.75) on a bag!??
My perfumath says whatever you save on sales tax, you get to spend on perfume ???
I’m glad your parents made the trip safely and will get their vaccines! I hope they have gorgeous Florida sunshine for their entire stay.
Santal 33 goes straight kosher dill on my skin. I’d like to smell it on someone who doesn’t have that problem!
Where in FL are they staying? I miss the sunny white-powder sand beaches and Cuban food.
Hello all! Happy almost Friday. 🙂 My SOTD is Fleurs de Rocaille by Caron. If ever a perfume has a yellow vibe going on, it’s this one. Not my go-to scent but it’s nice for warmer days.
It’s going to be a sunny day in SF – I’m headed out for a walk in a few. I’m going to loosen up my back – I’m a tiny bit tender from yesterday’s yoga workout. You can find it here:
Yoga With Adriene
https://youtu.be/_O0z9EBEO6g
Yeah, that one really did some good stretches. Enjoy your sunny walk!
First things first. Thank you SmokyToes, for posting the link to the VERY GOOD LOOKING Porsche man. If only he knew that he was a minor celeb on this blog…
In Miel de Bois. Golden at least, if not yellow. And not boring.
Hope you all have a great day!
You’re welcome! 😀 Doing my part to cheer people up. I recommended him to a coworker, and forgot to mention how handsome he is.
She came back from her car repair appointment with a large grin on her face. She’s normally very reserved, so seeing her this animated was kinda funny!
My mom used to say: A thing of beauty is a joy forever. You put a smile on my face, too.
I’ve been following the car mechanic convo / website for these past few days…we had an uncommonly handsome tree removal person once (strikingly so) and this made me think if it wasn’t time to get some more trees looked at…. 🙂
????
Insurance didn’t want to pay for the scan, so I had to cancel the scan. I am not going to worry about that right this second. Wearing PHI Une Rose de Kandahar to work today.
Sorry about that.
That really stinks Dawn! I’m sorry.
It sounds important enough that your provider should be able to advocate for you. Having done some research on this subject, the 2 most important types of people to dispute a non-coverage is a patient’s family member / trusted friend (both must have power of attorney) (or yourself in this case) and a medical professional. Good luck with the insurance company which, I am assuming, is for profit.
If your physician considers this procedure to be necessary/important they can submit what is called a prior authorization to the insurance company explaining the reasons for which they would like to have the test done. Sometimes it comes down to your MD discussing the case directly with another physician who works for the insurance company (a peer to peer review). It may take some time but if the request is justified it usually gets approved.
Adanst, I have a sister who is in exactly this fix. Thank you for describing the solution and for using the specific terms. I’ll pass this info on to her. ?
Keeping this info in mind for future reference. Thanks!
Twins!
And I agree with adanst. I’ve had to appeal insurance decisions several times, and we (physicians and myself) always find a way to get the medication/care I needed.
I’m sorry to hear that your insurance company are being troublesome. You smell great!
SOTD: Encens Divin by Givenchy; new purchase and very pleased with it. Amber-y, incense with gorgeous dry down that lasts and lasts.
Just beautiful! Now to get my husband on board.
I love a good incense; you smell great.
Ooh, that sounds wonderful!
Wow, that sounds awesome!
Feeling low today. The loudest voices in our school district are back to blaming teachers for this semi-virtual school year. I know I should be able to dismiss such silliness, but it’s demoralizing when I think most people, in all parts of the educational exchange, are trying their best.
I’m wearing Lost Cherry from a sample I dismissed awhile ago, and while it started out good, I think I still don’t like the dry down. Maybe I’m not a big almond note fan?
I am so, so, so tired of people blaming teachers for everything. Geez, even before the pandemic, but more so now. DO NOT let them get you down. Switch the perfume up to something that makes you happy!
I do need a reset! Rest and a change of perfume, here I come!
Thank you, Lisa D! As a fellow teacher, I have had some pretty low moments this year, too. My kids are so great and most of their parents have been very supportive. But there’s definitely a “my teacher is great but those OTHER teachers . . .” tendency.
It is an honorable profession, and the majority of people in it are doing their best, often working with too little support.
Sending teacher hugs to you. We get blamed for everything, don’t we? ?
And it’s a time when some are really looking for someone to blame. Most days are ok, and the kids are awesome, so I guess we just keep trying to focus on that.
To all the teachers out there: Nil Illegitimi Carborundum!
Oh, that did make me laugh! Thanks!
You’re welcome! That’s the version I figured I could safely post here.
That was my dad’s favorite line! ?
I’m in Dusita Moonlight in Chiangmai. I think this perfume moved me the most in 2020.
It smells good but alas, it is not me.
Yup, that’s exactly how I felt about it.
But I really like this brand for their whole mood. Elegant and poetic but not shy or quiet. And the ones i tried were all well made. No false notes, quite smooth.
Oh that comment above was meant as a reply to Hajusuuri.
I also felt it was good but “not me”.
Sorry!
Got it!
Headed out to a forest preserve for a socially distanced walk with friends, before today’s prediction of a rainy afternoon (odd to think of such a day in Jan, but preferable to snow).
Think I’ll join Robin in BP, seems fitting.
T Bone Burnett’s cover of Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend is worth a listen~
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAlRbCB0xpE
Great cover, thanks! And hope it was a fun walk.
SotD is Hinoki
I needed to visit the office of my future employer this morning for an ID scan.
Really not exciting, but I still decided to wear something more fancy than my working-from-home-outfit (mostly sweater and jeans, or sweater and maxi skirt).
Black skirt (ending at knee) with silver buttons, black suede boots, grey cashmere sweater, black woolen coat…..I felt so posh ??
Sounds like a great looking outfit
sometimes I wish I had a reason to dress up again…
My fiance and I have occasional date nights during quarantine that involve dressing up! We throw two-person parties with elaborate decorations and fancy food, or else pretend our dining table is a bar (with the lights turned low and a printed-out menu), or pretend we’re going to a doughnut factory for a VIP tour. Anyway, my point is, you can totally make up reasons to be dressed up! And if you don’t want your outfits to go to waste, be sure to set up a photo booth so you can admire yourselves later 🙂
I admire your creativity! I will say that my husband does dress up for this desk regardless, and I do so on teaching/student days, but it’s cool in the house so a lot of work clothes or fancy clothes are out. But maybe we need to simply invent dress up events!
Yeah I dont want to turn up the heat too much (it makes me sleepy and the air gets even drier).
But it can get pretty cool/cold.
So its mostly sweaters for me
I am so glad I invested in soms nice/fancy merino and cashmere stuff during winter sale 2019/ 2020.
But I am looking forward to spring when i can wear more of my pretty blouses again. ?
Thats so sweet! ?
And very creative ?
SOTD is LL Iris 39. It’s a pretty good Ultimate Gray…maybe just a shade lighter. I think that sunny yellow will be easier to match tomorrow!
You smell great!
Nice choice
You do smell amazing!
Courtesy of Pixel, I’m in Muresque by DSH and am loving it. Very similar to the vibe I get from Wild Roses–even though they do not smell the same. It is probably the sweet patchouli. I’m not sure I am getting much sillage, particularly given my heavy-handed application. I have a small bit of Wild Roses extrait and it functions like a typical extrait–steady warm sillage. This does not (at least as much as anyone can tell the sillage they are blasting into the universe), but it is so pretty!
My sick colleague (COVID–ugh!) is doing better. She sounds dreadful, but like someone battling a bad case of the flu–no worse. My husband scared the bijeesus out of me with stats from hospitals that are seeing really really sick people in their 20s and 30s, believed to be because of the high viral loads they’ve been exposed to. Anyway, I am definitely perkier knowing she is doing okay.
I’m glad she is doing better!
Good to hear your colleague is doing better!
Good, hope that trajectory continues.
Yay, good news about your colleague!
Woke up at 615 because a skunk sprayed my porch and stunk up the house. Ugh.. the good thing is it got me motivated to do some house cleaning. Sotd is Miu Miu. It’s my only lily of the valley, and I really wanted to smell springy. I’m just craving spring florals latley.
I read somewhere that the perfume is actually called Miu Miu Miu Miu!
Ha! That’s alot of Miu’s!
Very true!
I hate to think what a flanker might be called 🙂
At the very least, one of them should be Miu Miu Miu Miu Miu.
Sounds the the refrain for the Meow Mix commercials of days gone by…
Drat, that should be “Sounds like the”. Another brain fart in writing.
Ha!
Ugh, skunk! Hopefully it will dissipate soon. I remember when my dog got skunked then ran inside and rolled on the carpet. :-0
It took about half the day. I hope he doesn’t come back.
Did you have any hydrogen peroxide around for skunk cleanup? It’s supposed to work really well at getting rid of the smell.
Well he sprayed outside but right under my porch, so the smell just seeped in and permeated the inside of the house. How would you use hydrogen peroxide? I should go buy some.
If you get it in a spray bottle (which I’ve seen at CVS and the like for scrapes), just spray it on the Eau de Pew and let it sit for 10 or 15 minutes. Then rinse it off with plain water. Hopefully that takes care of the Big Stink.
I found a Bob Vila recipe: boil a chopped onion with a chopped jalapeño plus a tablespoon of cayenne pepper in 2 quarts water for 10 min., strain into a spray bottle and spray the area every 5 days.
I got lotsa recipes for ya. ?
Although it on to me now that this homemade repellent might be worse than the original stink. Sorry!
Lol!
I’ve definitely been on a spring floral kick! It makes it seem like it’s just around the corner. You smell great even if your porch doesn’t!
When Mr. Teebear and I lived on the West Coast we were “saved” from the neighborhood skunk several times only because a momma raccoon used to sneak into the upstairs neighbors’ floor to steal their cat food – so she was QUITE territorial about our house!
I think this went on for quite some time before there were problems but one night we heard noises on the back stairs. After the first time we spotted Mama AND her four adorable thieving kits, we did promptly let the neighbors know that their kitty Panda had *not* suddenly gotten a lot hungrier. That answered a lot of questions they had!
But the raccoon family still liked to hang around, just in case someone forgot to block the cat flap with a large potted plant at night ?
Ohhhhh that’s awful! And requires a good bit of work to remedy! My sincerest supportive accolades to you.
The last few days have been perfect summer days – now that I’m back at work in a cold air conditoned office.
The last few mornings have also been quite busy before I leave for work, cleaning up knocked over pot plants and such. The cats are settling in, but still exploring and climbing everything.
I’m wearing a light summery perfume today, Aqua Allegoria Figue-Iris, one of the first perfumes I bought as I went seriously perfume-crazy.
I am looking forward to perfect sunny days, Gaynor — enjoy on my behalf!
I don’t think I can pull off a yellow bag, but it is very nice-looking.
SOTD = MFK Grand Soir
https://www.instagram.com/p/CKCNh_0BWsV/?igshid=1x0y8kupc8ni7
I split off a bottle but also got a travel spray in red! Grand Soir is a great combo of amber, tonka, vanilla, benzoin and labdanum…reminds me TF Amber Absolute without the smokiness.
In other news … a question – has anyone bought a new Mac laptop recently (since October 2020)? If you have, would you mind sharing what you bought and your experience to-date? I’ll be buying one in March and would like to get some opinion from trusted people. Thank you.
The picture makes it look like the little mouse lives in the travel case!
It does! I positioned him so that it looks like he just popped out to say hello!
I didn’t in that time frame but I can tell you that, were I to buy a mac laptop again, I would get one with a more pronounced keyboard. I got the macbook (app. 3-5 years ago) which is super sleek but the shallow keyboard is not great if you type a lot, in my opinion. I since ruined the macbook (don’t reach for your tea without looking!) and I’m on a work laptop, which is a Dell, and not nearly as sleek, but a much better keyboard.
I never even thought of keyboard as a consideration. And now I will! Thanks.
Hi Hajusuuri, I got a new MacBook Pro through work in the late fall. So far, so good. I should be using an external monitor to avoid the computer hunch, but that is on me, since I do have one and just haven’t pulled it out and set it up. But it works very smoothly, which was not the case with the Air I had before this. And now the Pros are almost as light, but with more plug ins and a better keyboard.
I currently have a Mac Book Air and it sounds like I may need to upgrade. One thing that did not have a bearing on my choice then was weight since I was not planning on traveling with it. That said, the fact that the Pro has a better keyboard and is also now lighter than it used to be are points in its favor.
I got a new MacBook Air recently.
You smell great! Love the photo. 🙂
Han thank you. This is one where the drydown is even better than when first sprayed.
Wish I could help with your Mac question, but I’ve never used one of their laptops.
No worries at all. I have been using Macs for a good 10+ years for personal purposes. I use an HP Microsoft-based laptop for work.
Fourreau Noir. Feels like a lavender tinged gray to me and fits the grey weather too.
Had to use public transport today, thankfully it was relatively uncrowded, but another 2 hours of mask wearing plus at work is not nice.
Bought some yarn to knit socks for my friend, who has liver metastases. Hugs for her feet!
No, not nice! But what a sweet thing to do for your friend.
I like Fourreau Noir! So sorry about your friend and kudos to you for doing something to alleviate her illness.
SOTD, Phi, again. I decided I wasn’t done with it, yet.
It is cold, but the sun is shining! I look forward to getting out there for my walk today. I wish I could sneak out early and get it in the middle of the day, but my classes are too close together for that. At least now it’s not dusk when I can leave at 4pm anymore.
And hopefully, masked the smell of the thing that shall not be named!
SOTD is Trudon Bruma. It’s sunny outside and I wanted something floral. It’s a little less floral and more spicy than I remember, but not regretting my choice.
Sounds good to me!
Another day and yet another Amouage: Fate this time. I seem to have a lot of Amouage samples and I want to sort them out and see which ones can stay and which ones will have to go. Fate is definitely leaving. It is just too much. And I love Guerlains but this is so dense and sweet and just not me.
Thanks for all the kind words yesterday! NST’ers are the best.
I tried Fate years ago. i remember liking it, but i also came to that same conclusion, it was just too much.
Thursday!
1) SOTD: TF Noir pour femme- tiny spritzs.
2) Sunshine today. Did some quick pricing at HD yesterday- cedar pickets are 40% HIGHER than what is usually at this time of year- about what I expected. Will be doing a quick bike ride to one of wood producers after work to check out any pickets that they may have.
You smell wonderful!
Late to this.
Thank you!
Have you considered Trex? When it’s time to re-build my deck, that is what I am planning on using. I have not priced out yet though so it could be a pipe dream. My deck is small.
I have!
Trex is expensive, and TBH, it’s not popular here, even in high end homes. Every one wants cedar or teak, and installation is specialized here, where with cedar or teak any idiot (me) can pick up the materials and build a deck or fence.
Then you really have my sympathies, because I am still in shock over what we paid for cedar fencing.
*cries in credit card*
On a positive side, I knew that fence needed to be replaced- now this forces things. I was also thinking of building a small deck, so I will get this done all at once. But I need a good spate of dry weather, all the materials and 50 hours in the day.
Good luck!! Our last cedar fence was probably 20+ years old, so there’s that — they do last if you keep them painted or otherwise treated.
And adding…we bought the pickets, the posts, and the pre-cut boards for the sections that are high privacy fencing, and my son and husband assembled it and installed it. Saved a lot of money over our original estimate for having it done by others.
The downside is that my husband still hasn’t gotten around to re-building the gates (we kept the iron hardware from the old ones). Hopefully this spring!
Ah!
So this house was built in 2006, with the fencing put in at that time. It was not treated and the posts were put into the ground naked- no grounding with stones or cement. So when I get this done, it will be done properly. I will probably reuse the boards in some capacity.
I did the fencing on the other side of the townhouse, so I will replace this, then the back fencing and build a deck.
Our posts were also in the ground naked, but the posts were treated wood, and they lasted longer than the cedar pickets and boards. I actually don’t know what kind of wood the posts are.
But they are also relatively easy to replace, and not that expensive IIRC.
We do the cedar pickets with solid stain that looks just like opaque paint. The drawback is that you have to do it again every few years, but I do like the look of a white picket fence.
I am continuing my sample testing with 2 items: BDK Gris Charnel and Nuit de Sable.
One of the reviewers on Fragrantica, where reviews are so widely divergent that I sometimes wonder if they’re talking about the same thing, says about Gris Charnel “…if you don’t get this perfume maybe you should train your nose a bit more”. LOL
I’m pretty sure that my nose needs a lot more training but I really don’t “get” it. To me it smells like dozens of other sweet woody nondescript fragrances that you are likely to encounter at any department store.
Have you all tried it? Am I missing something here?
Moving on to Nuit de Sable. Again, I feel like I’ve smelled this many a time in one of the oud/wood/rose concoctions on the market. To quote Persolaise, “ the sort of thing that’s been pumped through the ventilation system at Harrods for at least the last two decades”. His observation does not refer to Nuit de Sable.
I don’t think it’s bad (although I had to scrub it) but I am kind of disappointed in this repetitiveness. Any other opinions on this one?
It is entirely possible that after smelling so many perfumes (and I’m sure I haven’t even come close to smelling as many as some of you here have) it takes a lot to impress.
Wow, that Fragrantica reviewer sounds like a pretentious butt. I’ll just hope they were kidding.
Ha, ha, I don’t think they were kidding. Just a big fan apparently ?
Agreed. And people don’t seem to joke on fragrantica. LOL.
They really don’t! I thought it was just me that noticed it.
I feel a lot of niche stuff smells the same in general. You take a whiff and go – wait – this is super familiar but not in a comforting way.
Yes, exactly. I’m glad it’s not just me thinking this way.
This is why I only trust the people here on NST. I can’t think of one time where anyone tried to make someone feel bad for not liking or liking a perfume. Imo fragrantica and YouTube reviews are useless, however they can be entertaining.
They make me nuts. So much judgment.
The Facebook groups have similar pretentiousness…and so many guys taking pictures of bottles between their legs from their drivers’ seats. Very strange.
Seriously? Omg, I’m laughing in the middle of the store?
The Facebook groups have a weirdly macho feel to them. It’s like a status thing, everyone bragging about having the newest, most expensive fragrance. It’s all very high maintenance…much prefer the laid back community here.
Really? ?
Perfume crotch shots? Seriously? Better break out the brain bleach for those…
They’re clothed! But like…the car is a popular place to take pictures of your new bottle, apparently. And it can be a crotch shot or you can get the glare from the window.
I think this is mostly a men in their 20s thing. I am in my 20s myself but if I were doing bragging posts about my new MFK or something I’d choose my vanity and not my car. Weird trend.
Still sounds kinda skeevy.
Yeah, not the most helpful reviews.
But sometimes I honestly do not know what I’m smelling or what does that remind me of or what is this awful thing that I should avoid in the future, etc. And then I turn to Fragrantica ?
I actually like those two, but precisely because they are not demanding and so to me at the moment comforting.
Fair enough. There is a lot to be said about comforting scents ?
Ah fragrantica reviews ? i sometimes read some for laughs ?
And life should not be about liking what other folks like… Right?. ?
Talk about putting on airs! ? There are a number of totally absurd comments on there, much mediocrity, but also some succinct and brilliant reviews. (In my not-so-humble opinion ?)
I have both of those scents. While I don’t find any of the BDK perfumes very original, I do like the base that seems common to them, and as Amy said, they are undemanding. I’m finding that appealing during the pandemic.
So far, the BDK scents sound lemming free for me. Thanks for the commentary!
Same.
OMG! I read that very review and thought, “Jerk.” We all have different olfactory organs, anosmias, etc. We’re not all going to experience the same scent the same way. Anyone who doesn’t understand that might need to train their brain a bit.
I also recently sampled that scent (hence: I was reading aforementioned review) and my reaction was “nice, but not a love.”
I’m in Querelle, to try to invigorate me.
Not working too well at the moment.
It was not my most energetic day either, Dilana!
Broke my Lost Cherry streak to try out a sample of Parfums DelRae Coup de Foudre and fell in love at first sniff (pun fully intended; I’m not above the lowest form of humor). It’s a lovely rose scent on me; a nice dose of citrus and flowers round out the rose. I have enough gorgeous roses that I probably won’t buy this, but I would be quite pleased if a bottle magically appeared in my collection.
I’ve done such a bad job with the CP this week. Maybe I’ll pull out Ostara tomorrow. Today’s high here is going to be sunny and 70! Ostara is nearly overdue 🙂
Re. Parfums DelRae: it’s probably a good thing you don’t have to have it because I don’t think her perfumes are available any longer.
Maybe some of the retailers have some old stock other than that ebay.
Have you got any DelRae’s adanst?
Not anymore. A few years ago I got a half bottle of Wit and I loved it but it’s gone now…
I also had a small decant of Bois de Paradis once.
Oh noooooo as soon as you said that, I wanted more of this. Dang! Now I’m sad I didn’t get to try the rest of her scents.
🙂
Coup de Foudre is one of the DelRae’s I never got to try, as is Wit.
I cherish the 5 I own. It was such a good house, a pity it’s no longer there.
Nice! I did think of you when I was trying it, because you seem to be a fan of her scents 🙂 But now that I know the house is closed, I suddenly wish I had gotten to smell them all 🙁
Oooohhh you make that sound so good. I do love a beautiful rose…
It’s great! What are some of your favorite roses? I might compare this one to Rose Ikebana a little? Maybe Paestum Rose.
Right there with you on love for roses, in fragrances and in my garden.
I have quite a few DelRaes and am very glad I do! Bois de Paradis is tied with Amoureuse as my favorite
Ha! After all the Lost Cherry talk around here recently, I chose it as my end of day scent.
Ostara — what a great choice to go with “Illuminating”! It is one of my all time favorite fragrances. I’m starting out today with Nirvana French Grey but I’ll probably switch to Ostara later, inspired by you!
I think I’m matching the chic grey with Chanel 19. Just got done teaching, now I have a few hours to grade etc. and then I have 4 hours of class that I’m taking – I hope I’ll stay attentive for those!
Almost chose that today. Smelling good!
Smelling good for a busy day!
Natori, a nice retro smelling plum.
I’ve always liked that bottle. I used to have one, but gave it away some time ago, and now I can’t remember why.
That one has such a gorgeous bottle.
Started the day with Atelier Cologne Mandarine Glaciale, then a spritz of MissDior Blooming Bouquet when the Mandarine reached its (to me) underwhelming dry down. Both are samples, both are perfectly pleasant at first, and then…dull. YMMV, as always!
I like Dior’s Absolutely Blooming in a rollerball which to me is less blowsy and floral than its spray counterpart. That being said – it’s probably not ‘perfumista’ fare.
I got a very large discovery set from Laboratorio Olfattivo and am trying the hilariously named Nerotic today. It’s nice.
Looking forward to reading your thoughts, haven’t tried anything from this house.
That is a great name!
Wearing Absolute Aphrodisiac from a generous NSTer again.?
Feeling tired and with trouble focusing the past couple days but enjoying listening to the kittens growl at mice. ? Fake mice thankfully. 😉
Aww, kittens are so cute and fun. 🙂
I almost died thinking real mice- I am totally afraid of mice!
Did you do a lot of “kitten-proofing” before your new family members came home?
They’re earning their keep already!
I was in Monsieur Balmain this morning which I have in the old brilliant yellow bottle. I find this punchy bright lemon drop scent great to exercise in, though I don’t enjoy wearing it for a whole day.
I’m going to sleep in Etro’s Patchouli ?
Ah, perfect for the CP!
Wearing Orris Tattoo today.
Nice! I get some similarity to Bulgari Au Thé Bleu with that one.
Thank you! Sadly, I haven’t tried the Bulgari yet.
I haven’t heard of that one- will have to look it up!
Not enabling, but you should..
You smell wonderful!
Thank you! I applied the hajusuuri patented 8 spray count!
? ?
Maybe that’s a match for the grey up above?
I think it is!
Woo hoo! I love this one! Parle Moi hardly gets any mention in these here parts.
Gorgeous sunny day here, wearing BDK Tabac Rose. It starts off very loud, but dries down nicely.
Have you tried Tubereuse Imperiale Cazaubon? That is one of the three BDK samples recently ordered from Luckyscent and the one I have not yet smelled. The other two did not wow me, as I may have mentioned above ?
It’s on the agenda, maybe this weekend.
Geisha Noire for no reason other than my hubs is coming home tonight and he likes this one. He’s been out of town working so I will be happy to see him, although I have enjoyed cooking whatever I like with no consideration if he likes it or not and watching girly shows LOL!
Nice! Have fun welcoming him home!
How lovely 🙂 What are some things you’ve cooked for yourself?
I made a sausage and kale soup, some zucchini and carrot fritters, a salmon Niçoise salad. Oh and a plantain hash. So good!
Enjoy the reunion! ?
I’ve been cooking for myself and Mr. Teebear since the pandemic started – he’s able to work from home unlike me, so it’s a fair division of labor – but I envy you your stretch of cooking for just your own tastes! Hope the reunion is just as nice.
That bag is adorable !! I am wearing Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt today.
Or, just DIY it, with this combo for a whopping total of about twenty-five bucks:

🙂
A little late today! In addition to all the other tasks, today I decided to mop the front entryway. Based on what I saw, I might have to do that more often. (I didn’t think it was THAT dirty!)
RIP Siegfried Fischbacher (of Siegfried & Roy fame) and Joanne Rogers.
SOTD = back in Cuir de Lancome again today. I saw that there was a clue about Lancome last night on Jeopardy, much to my amusement.
Let’s not overdo it on the house cleaning front. If it makes you feel better, I’m rolling with multiple cobwebs on all the furniture feet…..
It was a case of 1) I can see it, and 2) it’s easy to do. My entryway is on the small side.
I do have cat-fur tumbleweeds drifting under my couch. It’s impossible to keep up with those! ?
I have two Yeti cats and feel your pain on that one. Those little fur drifts just literally float away from the broom….
Smelling great, Jalapeno! But I agree with Lisa D, you don’t want to overdo the cleaning; you may end up re-injuring your back!
Thanks Gail! I think part of my back issue was stress. So I am working on keeping that to a low simmer whenever possible. Easier said than done, yeah.
We were cleaning twins today! Mine was the bathroom. I decided I need new paint and a new window, lol.
That reminds me that I ‘ought’ to clean the toilets soon, bleah.
My spot vacuum cleaner (for the entry level / downstairs) has been out of power for over a week. I suppose I need to get up and plug it in but first, I have to clean out the dirt trap. Oy!
I used something that was considerably lower-tech. Sponges are cheap! ?
I’m late again today. Time seems to fly away on me and I’ve had some work projects. Our weather was gorgeous today and mild and I had a nice walk. I wore Perris Monte Carlo Ylang Ylang Nosy Be because that note is definitely yellow to me and I love this version of it.
I am glad you mentioned this house. I am hearing wonderful things about Mimosa Tanneron, created by Jean-Claude Ellena and it appears that he is the in house perfumer for Perris Monte Carlo. I bet you smell heavenly.
After a bit more research, Jean-Claude did not do them all. It looks like Indigo Perfumery stocks them and you can order samples. Indigo offers great customer service and samples from brands that are difficult to come by on our side of the pond. It was the first store in the U.S. to stock Papillon. I am not affiliated in anyway but as a happy customer. The other nice thing about Perris Monte Carlo is the lack of hyperbole in the company provided descriptions, simply the inspiration and the notes.
I love their patchouli, too!
Elizabeth & James’ Nirvana French Grey for me today! Discontinued but widely available in discount stores and online for less than $25, so currently a “bargain beauty.”
