It's Hump Day, National Korean American Day and Public Radio Broadcasting Day. (Thank you, public radio, for preserving my sanity during the pandemic.) What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Prada Candy.
Reminder: on 1/15, wear a fragrance to match Ultimate Gray and/or Illuminating, Pantone's colors of the year for 2021.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2021, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Embroidered wool and cashmere crew-neck sweater ("Precious handmade floral embroidery decorates this wool and cashmere crew-neck sweater defined by the boxy fit and ribbed knit trim. The Fall Winter 2020 collection reinterprets delicate and intrinsically feminine elements, giving them new meanings.") is $1,260 at Prada.
In Neela Vermeire Bombay Bling to cheer up on another dark, cloudy day. Where is Spring?
Coffee, coffee and more coffee and looking forward to run some errands at lunch time
Happy Wednesday, everyone! ?
Spring is coming pl67! I can tell the days are getting longer!? I see more daylight in the morning before I leave for work and again in the afternoon on the way home. ???
And my birds have been singing!
I am just counting the days! But we are almost there! ????????
You smell great!!! Spring is in the perfume if not in the air yet!
You said it in a very beautiful way! ?. Now I feel more optimistic and hopeful! ????
You smell fabulous! I’ve gone through my second sample of Bombay Bling, might be time to pull a card out…
Thank you, Dorsey! After I finished my sample I went for the travel size spray. It is a beautiful perfume and just one spray lasts almost the whole day. It would be a great addition to your collection!
I usually forget about a fragrance after a while if I don’t have it in front of me, but she’s calling out…you enabler!!
?
I thought that sweater was cute, and I really like the color combination….then I saw the price and I thought, no, it’s not a thousand dollars cute.
Anyway, I’m in LL Rose 31. Again.
Today is my Friday! Which means that I have a 4 day weekend coming up!??
4-day weekends are always fantastic! And you smell marvelous!
We are on the same page about the sweater. If it is truly hand embroidered I can understand the price, but there’s no way it would be in my budget. That said, I do have a grey (cotton) sweatshirt that might benefit from some bright embellishments….
Ha, I was going to say that if it was in your budget, I will embroider a sweater for you. Mind you, I do not know how to embroider 🙂
Enjoy your 4 days!
I also like the sweater, but not the price
ditto on the attraction to the sweater and repulsion by the price!
you smell great 🙂
Yay for 4 days! Enjoy! ?
Whoo hoo for a 4-day weekend!
Good morning Y’all,
Testing out Karl Lagerfeld EdP for the 1st time….it’s good stuff! Light and perfect for the office. Will be really great this summer too!
I smelled this when it first came out, it is really nice!
I’m finishing another sample, this time Tom Ford Gray Vetiver. Thunk! I’m very glad I have a decant of this, and I need a full bottle. This is in my top three of my favorite vetivers.
What are the other two in your top three?
I have a sample of Route du Vetiver which I am hoarding, because I can’t get a decant, at least not from STC or TPC, which are my two most used decant houses. I also love good old Guerlain Vetiver, and I have a full bottle of that. I also have a full bottle of Encre Noire, which is in my top five vetiver scents.
YSL Cinema from a mini. It’s often described as “golden”.
Wearing a striped cashmere sweater that was. Christmas gift…and nowhere near the price of that Prada….?
Tree is gone, and our tiny apartment feels so big! Time to restart the purge that began some months back. I also need to finish the book I started the other day by Yrsa Sigurdadottir because Perestroika in Paris (new Jane Smiley) finally became available in my library digital hold. I loved Horse Heaven so am looking forward to this.
I think that every time I walk through our living room too…looks so much bigger! But not as cozy.
I just got YSL Cinema from my fragrancenet.com monthly allotment, I’ll have to wear it more, but I was expecting more vanilla I think.
I like it, but it’s not something where I’d move to FB.
It might grow on you? I love Cinema!
Happy Hump day all… 🙂 My SOTD is Theorema Esprit d’Ete, sipping my second cup of coffee. I wore Esprit d’Ete to bed last night and it felt like a good idea to reapply.
Has anyone heard about Shiseido’s new release, Ginza? It sounds marvelous – with notes of Sudachi, marjoram, violet leaf, and linden. I’m hopeful it has the same vibe as 1980 Shiseido creations, Murasaki, Hana Sakura, Nombre Noir, Suzuro.
It’s priced at $386 US.
I don’t eat them often, I’m craving a huge New York style pastrami on rye. I will throw on my walking shoes instead. 🙂
Oh thanks…now I have craving for a Reuben…?
Sorry!
Yes, it’s on my list of things to announce! Which means maybe I’ll get to it this week or next.
Great! Can’t wait to see the announcement. It sounds quite good!
Robin ~ I do love linden perfumes. It’s a favorite note…
ST-
I owe you today for my joyful mood!
That’s good! Thinking about purchasing a car?? 😉
More like turning into a car ?
Haha! So happy to put you in a good mood! Ya, he’s even cuter in person. 😀
Yes, I am sure. He is just my type, dark hair, tattoos, good bone structure. Watched the video on the website at the gym this morning while I was on the treadmill..
Hi all!
In one of my favorite cold weather florals, Iris Ukiyoe. Sparkling blue green, light and cool.
I had the most intense migraine I’ve had in a long time at work yesterday, so I’m very thankful I’m holding up this morning.
Take care all!
So sorry about that migraine. But uou smell gorgeous today.
Thank you!
Ugh. I hope you aren’t suffering from too much of a migraine hangover!
Mostly better today!
Migraine at work is the worst
It certainly is. It pulled no punches with me. ?
glad you are feeling better 🙂 you smell great. I have some IU, I’ll have to try it this winter, I usually wear it in spring.
Isn’t it so lovely?
I recently discovered, to my horror, that I do not own a travel spray of IU. I suppose I must’ve been using one of those generous 4mL samples, and that when I ran out of it, I never bought a travel spray 🙁
Oh no! I really enjoy it myself and have fond memories of it at this point. It also lasts a surprising amount compared to other Hermessences.
You smell terrific! Iris Ukiyoe is a big favorite of mine!
Yay, glad to find so many fans!
I hope you stay migraine free!
So far so good! Luckily I only get them once a month or so.
Hope that you are feeling better today.
I am, thank you so much!
Prada Candy is so mmmm…
I’m in Nicolai Ambre Cashmere.
Off to the dentist now.
Hope the dentist is quick and painless!
Mitsouko, because there are days when only Mitsouko will do, y’know?
So true, Mitsouko is exquisite. I wear it when I need fortification.
Fortification! Exactly. Mitsouko gives you some backbone. It smells like confidence.
I think it does something really unusual–it’s strong but still cozy with all the spices and fruit. Like a sturdy but still soft wool overcoat.
Yes it does! You smell great.
Sometimes only Mitsouko will do.
I’m wearing Mitsouko, also. And enjoying it. Took me a long time to come around, but I’ve made it.
Mitsouko is in a class by itself.
Dame Vanille Farfelue, which is just such gorgeous stuff.
Yesterday was the first day since after Christmas that I didn’t get my 10,000 steps, and my Fitbit is really mocking me today. I hope to have time to shut it up.
Don’t let that fitbit boss you around! You are master of your life! 😀
It can boss me around a little, but yes, I have to get better at being ok with not always meeting its standards!
Oh gosh, I don’t get to boss you around, either. Just wanted to encourage you to be ok with what was reasonable yesterday. 🙂
I didn’t take it that way at all! I appreciate the encouragement very much.
My Huawei gives this big award sounding thing when I hit 10000 and yeah – I think it gives me a dopamine hit! And while my watch isn’t master of my life I think my neurochemicals might be! 😀 That being said…I’m NOT going to make 10000 today – so take that you ugly wristband!
I’m sure they’ve studied that. I love that little buzz of accomplishment, too!
I love that sweater!!!!
Robin! Lemming!!
I just finishing my Italian lesson and its nice to be back at it after taking a break during the holidays. I also and thinking of learning Arabic, which may be challenging. But I did a trial class for 30 minutes and spent most of my time laughing when she wanted me to pronounce a letter like a motor engine.
Speaking of motor engines, because of SmokeyT I had probably the best night of sleep last night. All I can say is that I should of found NST when I lived in the Bay Area, since that didn’t happen, in my next life I am going to come back as a Porsche or a Mercedes 😉 🙂
If you can execute the Italian ‘r’ then i think there is hope 😀
Ugh. I speak some French, and when I started studying Italian, my mouth just did not know what to do with the “r” sounds! Front of the mouth? Back of the mouth? My tongue was all over the place.
Italian to me is the most beautiful language, every word sounds so beautiful ☺️
Your tongue will find its way
I studied it for about 4 months before we left for our honeymoon, and I got to the place where I could handle basic interactions, get us our hotel rooms, order food, take the train, make polite conversation, etc. I haven’t gone back to studying since then, but I think I will at some point. I really enjoyed Italy, and I’d love to be able to communicate more readily!
I can’t do the Italian, French or German R. I assume I can’t do the Arabic one either… Le Sigh!
I had a friend in college who is literally tongue-tied–her tongue is connected to the bottom of her mouth–and there were sounds she could never make. Her biology just didn’t allow for it. I assume the folks in France, Italy, etc, would be understanding if it’s out of your control. 🙂 My experience, as long as I’m trying, people are nice to me even when I screw up.
Arabic will be a challenge
That is what my Arabic teacher said! Exactly that
In between learning languages, learn to embroider 🙂
Or knot ?
or knit, my autocorrect won’t accept any language but Dutch
I liked “or (k)not”. ?
Hahaha @SheriG
Or knot was an excellent pun!
Ha!
Woke up in no 5 edt this morning. I think I like the edt better than the EDP. Even though I took a shower, I am sticking to no 5 edt. Looks like I might have to fight with my insurance about that scan and probably have to reschedule it but I will be dealing with that tomorrow morning since I gave the info that was needed. I hate how insurance is. Excuses are needing a certain lead time or it’s plain not covered. It will get sorted out eventually.
So frustrating. Good luck; I hope the issue is resolved in your favor, and quickly.
I hope the scan is sorted out soon!
Good luck! Hope everything gets resolved soon!
SOTD Phi, which I thought about on Apricot Day over the weekend, but didn’t reach for. I’ve been avoiding anything sweet smelling for fear it would remind me of the smell of decay coming from the bedroom (dead rat in the cieling, if you missed the story and to reassure anyone concerned about the state of my dear Mr. Spicebomb 😀 ). Thankfully, I’m not getting any decay notes from Phi!
You smell lovely! I just bought a miniature of Phi a few months ago and love it. I was also late for Apricot Day. I bought some apricot jam the day after, it was on sale, had to buy it.
Good luck with the stench! You’re almost to Thursday!
24 hours!
SOTD is…nothing at present. I think I will veer toward “Illuminating” today with HdP 1804. There’s plenty of grey in the sky — I don’t need to enhance with my perfume selection.
Since my comment yesterday we’ve learned that there simply is no vaccine to be had, either in our county or the adjoining ones. Our employer really wants us all back in the classroom ASAP, but looks like it will not happen anytime soon. At least we will now have free, on-campus testing for asymptomatic faculty, though only at certain points in the semester.
Oh man what disappointing news on the vaccine front! I am glad testing will be rolling out at least.
Ugh, that’s definitely a setback.
Thank you for all of your supportive words yesterday. I still feel
terribly uncertain about how to be a hybrid teacher, but I feel uncertain with some great smelling backup.
I’m wearing Vaporocindro by January Scent Project, continuing my “wear all my January Scent Project scents in January” project. It’s gorgeously springy.
Have a fantastic Wednesday. I’m off to get a COVID test to make sure I don’t infect the children and then a takeout burrito. Yum!
You will do great Sistine!
Thanks! I hope so, because I’m not the one who suffers if I don’t, and students have had such a rough time since March.
It’s not as awful as it sounds! Though I think you teach science (?), which might not be as easy as Literature to do hybrid. I do not like it, but I am surviving it, and my students are learning about as much as they do in any year—it’s just less fun. You will be great!
That is exactly what I needed to hear!!!
Good morning 🙂 I am having a Guerlain morning, wearing Apres l’Ondee and drinking a cup of Guerlain Paris Caprice tea.
How lovely!!
Smelling great!
Tell us more about your tea!
I dare anyone here to be more lazy than me this morning!
My winter boots finally arrived and they fit! Yay! I’m wearing Cafe Tuberosa today and loving it. Hope everyone has a good day ?
Oh.. I noticed Kanuka hasn’t been around so waving hello if you are out there?
Me too, waving. And Deva. Wearing Naja, which I think is one of her favorites, and got me thinking that I hadn’t seen her name in a while.
Deva has been active on IG. Of course, spell check initially thought I needed help spelling devastating.
She might enjoy that — Devastating Deva!
Thanks for the update. Sounds like she just needs a perfume blog break.
And CM8, I have not heard from her since last year. I hope she and her family are all doing fine.
Also ElisaP and Flopper. We miss them all!
Yes, Flopper took last year off of social media but the years up.. come back flopper!
CM8 is doing well, I chatted with her last week. 🙂
I am so glad to hear that! Thanks! ?
Yay for the boots! You smell great.
Glad to hear that your boots finally showed up! Wasn’t that one of your wayward Fed Ex packages>
Seriously, I messed up the question mark? Argh.
Oh! You smell great. I haven’t worn that one in a while.
Tea: Upton Lemon Drop
Scent: ElizabethW Té (formerly Sweet Tea), for the lemon note at the top
Book: Seeds by Thor Hanson
Currently:
I’ve hit my annual Winter Lemon Obsession. This pops up at other times of year, but is predictable when we hit the cloudy months. If I’m not careful, this will result in lemonade (Simply Lemonade), lemon cake (Nothing Bundt Cakes), lemon cookies (Lezza’s bakery), lemon candy (Claey’s)…you see where this is going. If I could keep it to perfume, at least my waistline won’t be further compromised. Also: lemon for the CP!
I hear you! Last year around this time a friend gave me a big bag of Meyer lemons from his backyard tree. What fun to use those up! Lemon risotto with shrimp and asparagus was my favorite thing! I keep hoping more will turn up this year but so far, no luck.
Copying TeaInTheGarden’s format 🙂
Tea: Golden Yunnan from The Republic of Tea
Scent: SSS Winter Woods
Book: Finished the Parasol Protectorate series from Gail Carriger yesterday; good fun. Today, starting the 12th and final book in the Poldark series.
Our lemon and lime trees are overloaded, perhaps it is time to develop my own Winter Lemon (and Lime) Obsession….
I miss my lemon bush. I drank a lot of sparkling cherry lemonade (used Torani cherry syrup to sweeten and flavor.)
Ooh, what a great idea!
The Parasol Protectorate was such lovely fluffy fun! I quite enjoyed the Custard Protocol series and (slightly less so) the Finishing School set as well!
Good to know, I’ve been eyeing the Custard Protocol series… I have all these ‘serious’ books piled up, waiting to be read, but nope, I just can’t, these days. Need fluffy fun.
A lime tree AND a lemon tree? Heaven! I consider the smell of a lime peel to be a perfume in its own right.
And the flowers… oh my. Perfumes never do justice to the scent of real citrus flowers.
The scent of any citrus flower is in my top 3 favorite natural smells ever.
Thanks for the book recommendation (someday I want to try a treacle tart). I just finished “The Wife.” Well-written, but I didn’t love it.
Ooooooh lemon and lime trees – incredible. Yes, do some fun stuff with those!
I found the Parasol Protectorate quite fun!
Oh, a bounty of lemons and limes sounds great!
Thanks for reminding me of that series. I read the first 3-4 books when they came out, and then they fell off my radar. I imagine there are quite a few more now.
I like that Prada sweater! (Eeerm, but wouldn’t purchase it in a million years–just saying I like it. . .)
I’m in Naja–drained my decant this morning. I’ve been eking it out for a couple of years (I think I was gifted it or swapped for it with an NSTer).
Thanks everyone for your sweetness yesterday about my colleague. I had a quick Slack chat with her this morning and she says she’s been vertical a bit, which is good news. I sent her a box of scones, which she’ll get on Friday. No idea if scones will seem appetizing or not.
Oh so glad to hear that! I would think scones would be perfect, because a treat but not too much if her stomach is not 100%?
Yeah. That’s my hope. Here’s to putting this damn virus behind us!
Knock on wood.
Copying Amyitis from yesterday with Ostara!
Ostara is a more gentle and feminine interpretation of Spring/narcissus to me. Song of Aubrac I adore but might hesitate to wear to “the office” if I had one; its narcissus takes no prisoners and fussy coworkers would *definitely* notice. Ostara is spring’s softer side, pretty and diffuse rather than piercing.
Smelling narcissus perfumes this week is definitely helping with my cabin/winter fever!
Ah, good…anything that helps with cabin/winter fever is a good thing!
Working my way through a discovery set and trying Au Lait from DSH today which is pretty meh to my nose.
Yesterday I tried Vanilla Bourbon Intense but was also not wowed but that one.
I am 0 for 2 so far. 😉
Money saved? I hope some of the untested ones strike your fancy!
Yes, $ saved is always good. ??
I do not know either of those. Are you trying mostly vanilla type things?
Yes, it’s a vanilla set. ?
Hope you like at least one! But I don’t think I know that many of her vanilla things.
Attaquer Le Soleil, a cistus soliflore/solibush??!!
Quite incensy and a bit balsamic. Thankfully does not smell like Marquis de Sade in his dungeon at all.
My car decided to flash some alarm lights today, so I have to use public transport until it is checked on Monday and hopefully I will get it back the next day. So one hour on bis and train instead of 25min by car….not nice
I hope it’s a quick and inexpensive repair!
Oh! That’s what I was going to pick for the CP. I think it smells a bit grey, and then the name mentions the sun, so you get some yellow, too.
Hey friends, still no scent today, but whom are we kidding, it’s probably going to be TF Lost Cherry again. My first thought upon seeing that sweater was, oh how nice! And then I saw the company and price and decided it wasn’t for people like me.
I have a question for you all: I found some citrus fruit on the ground (beneath a citrus tree, don’t worry, it’s California). It looks like a kind of yellowish orange? But with a slightly pointy end, such that it is maybe slightly more likely to be a lemon than an orange? And the SCENT OF THE SKIN, you guys–it’s like a super lactic, sweet smell that suggests orange-family more than lemon, and that perfumes our entire kitchen. The fruit are highly clustered and rather small, <2" in diameter. I haven't cut them yet because I only have a few and I don't know if they are ripe, and I don't want to waste a fruit with such gorgeous-smelling skin. What is it? My current best guess is a golden eureka lemon, but I welcome your ideas!
Maybe myer lemons? You are so lucky in CA to have fruit grow in your backyards!
Nope, definitely not Meyers—smaller, more orange-colored, and very different smell. But yeah, having all these fruit trees is really great 🙂
Ok further Internet searching leads me to believe there are at least two kinds of Meyer lemons: the kind I’m used to (a little bigger and very yellow: https://specialtyproduce.com/produce/lemons/meyer_219.php) and a smaller, more orange kind (https://specialtyproduce.com/produce/lemons/meyer_17216.php). The ones I found do resemble that second one a bit, so perhaps you and tulipani are right!
My guess is meyer lemons too. Their skin is also thinner than many lemons and the flesh slightly darker. You’ll have to report back when you finally cut it open!
Sadly not Meyers (see above response), but yes, I may have to give up and cut one open! At worst I’ll just have a sour orange to make ceviche with 🙂
I just asked my sister, she said maybe citron?
Aren’t citrons giant and knobbly? Hmmmmm. I’m starting to think I WILL have to cut it open first after all. (And even then who knows, maybe it’s just some kind of weird hybrid. Right next to it is a glorious mandarin orange-looking tree.)
Eureka lemons (I have one) are straight-up yellow. It’s one of the most common varieties sold in grocery stores, so when you think of what a regular lemon looks like, that’s what a Eureka lemon looks like.
Haha yeah, but I believe there is a difference between Eureka and Golden Eureka though (at least that’s what my Internet search has led me to believe: https://specialtyproduce.com/produce/Golden_Eureka_Lemons_10962.php#:~:text=Golden%20Eureka%20lemons%20have%20a,has%20an%20orange%2Dred%20blush. )
ah, well, can’t help you with those.
What I’ve decided after a considerable search of citrus fruits on the Internet is that there is a near-infinite variety of them, so I’ll just have to content myself with not knowing for sure what the fruit are 🙂
Kumquat?
That’s what I was going to suggest, but they must be giant ones, to be mistaken for a lemon.
Not a kumquat! As Lisa D says, way too big to be a kumquat (and also the bottom isn’t as round as a kumquat).
I smelled Lost Cherry recently and it’s kind of addicting. I kept sniffing my hand/arm it was so yummy. I think he nailed that one.
Maybe it’s a relative of mandarin?
Re. your lemon question, my kumquats are fairly big, and their bottoms are sort of hollowed up/indented if that makes sense.
After reading all these guesses, all I know is that whatever you have, I want one!
Hahaha 🙂 I wish I had that tree, too! It’s about a half mile away from me, on private property, so I have to content myself with the fruit that fall off the tree onto the sidewalk. But the ones on my breakfast table are doing a great job of reminding me of their presence!
Nice.
I’m one day late on my post since yesterday was National marzipan day!!
I’ve just discovered Garnier Whole Blends shampoo and conditioner (apologies if this product has already been discussed.) The Almond Milk Nurture has a nice almond scent and the Oat Delicacy totally reminds me of EL Sensuous Nude. Neither scent is overwhelming and they do not interfere with any fragrance choice. There are other intriguing scents but my hair is fine so I’ve only tried the lighter formulas.
ah yes, those are nice! I got the Honey Treasure Shampoo & Conditioner, an NST’er, maybe Oakland Fresca?, recommended it – she purchased it for her son, and it reminded either him or her of Bronze Goddness, *I think*
Need to check that one out STAT!
My ears perked up too.
I use Honey Treasures too and really like it. And I heard about it first on NST.
Did I miss national marzipan day?! Bummer.
I mentioned marzipan to my sister in law recently and she never heard of it or tried it. I don’t mean to judge but really?!
Girl, get yourself some marzipan and fast!
Preferably chocolate covered!
Without delay!!!
I was going to make some macaroons over Christmas, but ended up eating the marzipan as is!
LOL!
Really? Unbelievable!
BDK Rouge Smoking. Starts off with a fun root beer note, the drydown is soft and sweet. Need to check the notes.
Benzoin?
Esprit de Oscar, from an NST split. It’s lovely. I like to apply with a light hand.
I’ve notice the price on this one has gone way up. Since I fell down the perfume rabbit hole, I’ve also noticed Truth or Dare and one of the Queen Latifa perfume’s prices skyrocketed, should have gotten them when I could have!
It’s incredible how prices on some formerly affordable perfumes have gone through the roof!
I am big Queen Latifah fan. It is my sister’s almost-signature scent. BUT I will recommend not to pay $$$s for it. I think something like SL Fleurs d’Oranger, Claire de Musc or some of the Guerlain classics currently offered on Frag’net are a better way to go. BTW the Queen Latifa Queen of Hearts is not a substitute – totally different and also not, IMHO, a $$$ choice.
SOTD is Twilly!
I have a weird scent story for you all: I pulled a pair of winter gloves out from a closet and recoiled in horror because they smelled just like the worst boss I ever had…who wore Tresor very liberally, every day. She had a 100ml bottle proudly sitting on her office desk next to a picture of her husband, which caused me to dump my travel spray in the trash in disgust several years ago when I worked with her. This woman was a monster! Smelling it on women out in public or at a mall still triggers a flight or fight response. These gloves are getting triple washed.
Oh dear! My mom used to wear that scent and, while I do not mind it in small amounts, she would really overspray–I suspect due to losing some olfactory sensitivity. It was asphyxiating!
I wasn’t a fan to begin with, but it was at least tolerable! I kept that travel spray around because I kept *wanting* to like it and couldn’t.
Oh no!
I love Tresor- memories of stylish ladies in church! It sucks that you had to work with such a person to the point where it poisoned your enjoyment!
Tresor was my scent back in my late, late teens. Too bad it’s been ruined for you. I think we all have a few of those associations.
La Vie Est Belle was my first “grown up” perfume, so I tried really hard to like Tresor too! But it wasn’t for me, even before my boss gassed the entire building with it.
Amouage of the day is Jubilation XXV. I finished my sample!
This one is good, but not entirely my cup of tea, I love Jub 25 a lot more.
Another dreary day of working at home. I’m getting seriously fed up, the times I want to chuck it all in and call it quits are becoming ever more frequent. It would be such a shame as well. I just hope I can stick this out.
I’m sorry Austenfan. Are you guys under strict lockdown at the moment?
Hang in there and hugs to you.
Wish I could offer some words of wisdom but I’m sure you’ve heard it all…
There is simply no other solution than to hand in my notice but that would leave me without a job + income and still in lockdown. I will Just have to stick it out. But thanks anyway.
The working at home part or the work is different than what you imagined it would be? In any case, I wish for you a clarity of mind as you navigate your next steps.
I’ve never worked from home, plus I am completely on my own in a foreign country in a new job in a new profession. It’s been getting to me these past few weeks.
Alone, new country, new job, wow, it’s a wonder you haven’t just utterly collapsed! That’s an awful lot to be dealing with, lockdown too! Gosh, good luck keeping on!
That sounds like it’s really no fun. Keep on. This lockdown will end.
I wish I could offer concrete reassurance, but it will have to get better sometime, right? Sending you hugs and positive vibes – that’s a lot to be going through. I imagine it’s frustrating to have made the move and be unable to explore or make connections.
You are hitting the nail on the head, sistine. And I can’t blame anyone. This is just happening. But people just taking the time to read my complaints is a comfort, so thanks for your kind words.
Sending you hugs!!! You WILL be able to get out and explore your new country eventually and start to meet great people.
So sorry. I can imagine its hard, new job, new city…not seeing co workers in rea life. ?
Hang in there! Sending hugs. ?
At least the days are getting longer. Slowly but surely
At 5 PM I looked out my window after a 3 hour (!!!) video meeting and I could still detect some daylight.
You smell fabulous and I’m hoping you can power-through!
Hoping that things sort themselves out and get better for you austenfan. That’s rough.
Hang in there, this too shall pass. Use whatever means necessary to comfort yourself and try to make it more bearable. Lots of huge changes, it would have been challenging even without the pandemic. We’re all pulling for you! Big hugs.
Thinking of you austenfan. It is really hard to find yourself in this situation.
My niece is going through something not quite the same, but where she also finds herself going through the pandemic while more isolated geographically than she expected. I do think that compounds everything.
that sweater makes me want to find an embroidery hoop and yellow silk.
I’m in January Vaprorcindro, which smells like a lilac tree after a drenching spring rain. good staying power even though the scent itself is wet.
Scent twins! We smell great.
Wednesday!
1) SOTD is Cap Neroli over shower of Warm Vanilla Sugar, which might get a rerun on Friday. It feels like Illuminating!
2) We had some wild wind storms, which brought down the privacy fence between me and my right hand neighbor! TBH, the fencing was going to be replaced next year, but now mother nature has forced our hand. But due to the pandemic, supplies are short and pricey- but this could be a good opportunity to pick up fencing and store in the garage for now, since many people will not be doing outdoor work just yet.
Ouch. It sounds like you’re anticipating that either the shortage will continue and prices will be going up because why bother buying now to store?
Yes- generally during the late spring- fall here in Oregon the wood prices for housing goes up- and what I am seeing NOW is that prices did go up this year when people were doing their various projects. I live close to a wood products producer and a HD, so gonna real quick get a back of enevlope quote and go from there!
Smart move!
We redid all our fencing in 2019, and we had put it off too long too. One section finally blew down to hurry us up, LOL…
But you have my sympathies, because the price of wood fencing was a real shocker.
I like the price (which will go towards other purchases) but not the sweater ?

My neighbor 3 houses down whom I haven’t spoken with for over 2 years (and that time was her complaining about parking, not sure why to me and not the management company), stopped me yesterday at the beginning of my walk. Long story short, she wanted to know if I wanted a walking companion. I’m glad I was double social-distanced from her because I felt my eyes take on a deer in the headlights look. But I did the right thing for me and said Thanks, but no thanks with some other fake nicety stuff thrown somewhere there. The end result, and this was just yesterday, was I again saw her in the evening when I unlocked my mailbox because her car was inexplicably parked next to mine and I asked if she took her walk. Her answer – no, because my nephew came to visit. Seriously, I don’t think she’s walked for exercise for a long time and kinda strange that we don’t even really have a neighborly relationship and now you want to walk together? Nope, nope and nope.
Wow, that’s an uncomfortable conversation to have. It’s hard to say no to people, but seems like you were able to do it as friendly as possible.
Now I’m off to look at beautyhabit ?
Did you find anything at Beautyhabit?
It was only uncomfortable for a little bit but I was more motivated by not getting stuck.
Eeeeeeep. That’s an awkward situation all around.
It was – it is not clear what her motivation was but perhaps it’s to keep her on track? Sorry, not MY job to do that!
Very odd interaction. Good job on fending off her bizarre request.
Thank goodness is right!
Wow, that’s an odd and crunchy conversation to have. Kudos for being effective at saying “nope!”
Thanks for the beautyhabit code! I will absolutely be taking advantage.
SOTD is L’Âme Perdue.
I’m excited to have finally received my Luckyscent sample order: 10 x 3 mL atomizers of Les Indemodables and a few other scents I’ve heard several of you mention.
So far I have tried Vanille Havane (rich, complex vanilla but really tobacco heavy on me; not sure it’s going to end up being my thing but I like it enough to keep wearing it for now) and Francesca Bianchi Sticky Fingers (I can’t say that I like it after the first wear; I smell mostly patchouli, intense at first, then soft in the dry down, don’t get any iris; will wear it again to form a more solid opinion).
Looking forward to hearing more about the samples you picked!
I really like both of those, but they are definitely strong. Hope you find something to love!
Have not tried Vanille Havane yet but I do love me some Sticky Fingers!
Sprayed myself silly with Hiris today.
We had a crazy windstorm overnight, but the good thing is that it almost fee!s like Spring today. Last week I noticed that it was still light outside at 4:30 pm. Woohoo, there is hope!
Woohoo! My day is lasting until 5 now ?
Same here. It is almost 5 o’clock and it is not fully dark anymore.
It make such a difference!
We’ve got daylight until 5:30 in North Carolina!
Maybe you brought it on with your lavish spraying…….
I’m closing the blinds 30 minutes later than I had been around Xmas.
Hopefully no damage! And spring is definitely on the way. 🙂
Wearing a few lovely drops of Tears of Iris by Gucci. I’m not a big iris gal but this is so very pretty. Gentle, comforting, words I don’t normally associate with iris but there you have it.
Would add that gray with yellow are a favorite color combo of mine. I just saw a sweater in a local shop window that is yellow and gray strips I may have to go back and try it on. I’ve not purchased clothes in so, so long.
That sounds like a great sweater – I love grey and stripes.
It really caught my eye! Need to give it a closer look as I can’t wear wool, sadly.
I put on a new cashmere sweater today and topped it off with le lion.
Sounds like the perfect combo!
Pretty sweater! I can wear wool socks, but can’t wear wool sweaters. I itch like crazy if I try.
Got more sun today, yay! ???
SOTD = Cuir de Lancome, from the sample stash. Not yellow or grey at all to my nose.
I can wear wool sweaters but they have to be fine wool and I have to wear a LS undershirt.
Good for you figuring out what works for you!
Same here – I can’t wear wool sweaters at all. I’m one of those who also has to remove all traces of tags (can’t just cut them off), and I wear my socks inside out, because, well, seam.
Wow. I usually don’t have any problems with tags, but I’ve come across a few that feel like they were made out of sandpaper.
Same here with tags – I maniacally remove them all with scissors and/or stitch rippers.
Same here with tags. I have to remove them not only for every single piece of clothing, but from any other item in this world that has one. For some weird reason they make me very anxious.
I’m another one of the as anti-taggers!
The sun plus 38 degrees today really gave me spring fever! Unfortunately cold front moving in for Friday.
The latest forecast I saw had rain moving in for Saturday for me. If your cold front makes it out here, it probably will show up after that.
Generous application of Paris Riveria from a decant:). Sunshine in a bottle:).
I don’t like that sweater at all because I can’t stand frippery. No flowers or ruffles or bows or little hearts for me, thank you. No doo-dads or doilies. Ew.
This afternoon I had PT or OT (occupational therapy) and didn’t wear scent because I’m not sure it’s appropriate over there. I had my hand treated in a weird machine that blows a lot of (synthetic) sand and hot air around, supposedly to desensitize you to scars. Weird! I then got some nice hand massaging and juggled little heavy balls around in my palm. It hurts more right now but she said it would help in the long run, so I have to keep it up and have faith.
In the car I applied Musk Deer from my little sample. I think I’m heading to Luckyscent now to order a bottle. This one has captured my interest. It’s off-project because it is soft furry brown in the snow.
Here’s hoping the hand PT does its magic. Musk Deer sounds very interesting. Does it remind you of any other musks??!!
I’m with you on frippery.
It’s already Wednesday and I’m finally getting here to report my SOTD. I’m taking Friday off for a nice long weekend, so I’m cramming all my work into four days. Anyway, I’ve been wearing samples from my recent Indigo order so far this week, and today’s sample is Dusita Moonlight in Chiangmai. I had high hopes based on other positive reviews, but I’m not really a fan. I think it’s the teak, vetiver, and patchouli combo. It reads as chalky to me and smells more like a candle than a perfume. And of course, since I don’t like it, it’s quite persistent on me.
But I do like the perfumes I wore yesterday and Monday. I’ll tell you about those tomorrow. ?
Ew, chalky doesn’t sound good at all.
Looking forward to hearing about the one’s you liked.
I didn’t care for Chiangmai either. Looking forward to your report!
SotD for the CP: Iris Silver Mist. I have a recent Vaporisateur version. I think it does live up to its “hype.” It is very feminine, but not like anything else that might come to mind. I don’t quite get as much fresh pulled carrots as some do; it is very floral and sweet to me. It made me happy all day long. Grey, yet in the peaceful, meditative way.
Woo hoo! I should pull out my ISM!
